Yelp's Totally Bazaar 2015

Posted by Brittany

Six thousand Hoosiers flooded the halls of the Indianapolis Central Public Library and shopped 'til they dropped on December 10 for Yelp's Totally Bazaar. More than 150 local businesses set up shop for the night, creating a six-floor pop-up holiday shopping party. Guests who checked in on the app received a free Yelp tote bag to carry their goodies. Food and drink vendors spilled over into the historic hall in the library, and spirits were sipped in the Hoosier Hooch tasting room.

Other highlights included musicians on each floor, Jose & Sons Ice Sculptors creating a holiday masterpiece in the lobby, and a donation drive for Fletcher Place Community Center.

Our thanks to the businesses and happy shoppers for helping us shop local this holiday season, and to the Indianapolis Central Public Library for playing hostess with the mostest! Read the reviews and check out Yelpers' photos here

Yelp Gets Spooky: Haunted Underground Tour

Posted by Matt F

Here at Yelp, we like to keep our Elites on their toes, so when Tuesday night came around, we had a special spooky treat in store for them. 20 of Yelp Manchester's finest nervously met outside St Ann's Church to begin a Haunted Tour of Manchester's Underground..

The event was a fantastic twist on the history of Manchester, led by infamous Ghost Walker, Flecky Bennett, in which our Yelpers were given the fright of their lives as they embarked upon a trail: way, way under the Manchester streets we know and love. Once underground, Flecky took our guys through a series of spooky quests including touring a morgue, taking part in a seance and contacting the dead with our very own Ouija board experience.

Everybody left with big, if not slightly worried, smiles on their faces and the entire tour was brilliant. A big thanks for Flecky Bennett for keeping us so entertained, check out what else he has going on at and of course read some of the reviews and take a look at the spooky photos on Yelp.

Indy elites took a step back in time for a 1940's British pub themed Gin Jubilee with Hendrick’s Gin. Yelpers dressed the part with vintage frocks, hats, and suits. Aristocrat Pub & Restaurant hosted the cozy affair in its upstairs private party space. Mixologist and Hendrick’s Gin brand ambassador, Freddie, took roll call and taught an educational and interactive class about making gin cocktails. Guests acted as amateur bartenders for the evening and crafted three signature cocktails, including Blueberry Delight. To balance out the booze, Aristocrat boasted a smorgasbord of appetizers. Read what Yelpers had to say about the event here and check out the classy photos from Violet Short Photography here!

Yelp Indy's Dia de los Muertos Fiesta at La Mulita

Posted by Brittany

Bright flower crowns contrasted and popped against the crowd of black outfits at the Dia de los Muertos party at La Mulita on Monday. Yelp elites gathered to celebrate the traditional Mexican holiday not only in style, but also in the presence of authentic Hispanic cuisine.

Between rounds of cochinita tacos, deconstructed empanadas, Pan de Muerto, and Marigold cocktails, elites decorated sugar skulls, swayed to Mariachi music, and were transformed into sugar skulls by Brittany Renee Makeup Academy. La Mulita was decked to the nines in papier-mâché, skeletons, and glowing Day of the Dead candles. Drinks were never empty and stomachs grew full, especially after a stunning Day of the Dead Classic Cake was brought out, sliced up, and quickly eaten. Guests left la fiesta with a wider cultural understanding, new acquaintances, and a Yelp mug of Delicia/La Mulita goodies. Pictures and reviews can be found here or on the Yelp Indy Facebook Page. ¡Fue una noche divertida!

For the second instalment of our Taste Of Manchester Series, 15 members of the Yelp Manchester community headed down to The Butcher’s Quarter on Friday evening!

Yelp's Summer Smash at Smashburger

Yelp Elites smashed burgers and fries into their faces while they tested out Smashburger's tasty menu and enjoyed one another's company.

The new Carmel Smashburger opened early for these Indy Yelp Elites and wowza- they held nothing back. Friendly employees swung open the doors, filled tables with steamy, fried appetizers, and continuously topped everyone's drinks. Food samplings included four different burgers- Classic Smash, Spicy Jalepeno Baja, Truffle Mushroom Swiss, and a Hoosier Burger (Hoosier Daddy Barbecue sauce and cheddar cheese from Munster, IN). Three different sandwiches and several milkshakes were also tasted and sipped while management explained food ingredients and cooking processes. The walls were adorned with Indianapolis-themed artwork, making everyone feel homey as they happily discussed their favorite foods of the night. São Paulo's Picadeiro do Yelp

Posted by Fernanda

On a glittering Monday night, São Paulo's finest yelpers descended upon Marshal Food Park to enjoy the carnivalesque arena of Yelp. Jugglers and fire-breathers, aerialists and acrobats (from Circo Vira-Mundo) filled the themed food park to dazzle over 600 guests. To add to the merriment, yelpers filled their souls with loads of fun, food, drinks, music and art. Between somersaults, and a few sips and smiles, Mara Cecilia, was the lucky winner to receive a scholarship to study in Canada. No doubt, this was the most spectacular show of Yelp in Latin America. Sunny skies and breezy weather greeted Yelp yogis for our Yelp Fit Club event, Updog and Undies, hosted at the Sky Farm at Eskenazi Health! This hidden oasis and rooftop garden provides incredible views of the Indy skyline.

Four yoga instructors from the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis provided instruction for an hour-long class. As they arrived, Yelpers sampled fresh-pressed juices and betty bars from Simplicity Holistic Health. The check-in swag bag featured Yelp gear, kale chip samples from Ezra's Enlightened Cafe, a coupon to Duos Indy, and free class passes to InCycle, Watts Indoor Cycling, and Practice Indie.

In exchange for admission to this great event, Yelpers were asked to donate a pack of women's underwear to benefit the clients of Outreach, Inc., a homeless shelter for youth in Indianapolis. Together, we collected 250+ pairs of underwear!

Richmond Yelpers Party Like It's 1920

Posted by Lauri Thompson

Blog option 2

On Thursday night, Richmond Yelpers transported back into the Prohibition era to celebrate the 3rd annual Yelper Party at The Broadberry, one of RVA's newest music venues. Costumes were in full effect as party guests donned their most flapper and dapper duds. Guests enjoyed delicious bites from our amazing sponsors, signature cocktails, manicures, makeup, and even an interactive open air Photo Booth that automatically uploads photos to Facebook. The long list of entertainment kept the guests on their toes throughout the night. Aerialists swung through the air, a burlesque dancer commanded the stage, the blackjack table was bustling, and the band, Elana Lisa and the Hot Mess, kept us grooving all night long and even started a dance party! Funds went to The Byrd Theatre Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports The Byrd Theatre: a nonprofit, community-supported theatre dedicated to expanding the Big Screen experience of film, while preserving and celebrating the art of cinema.

Hello Santiago: It's hat night!

A chief indian, an astronaut, a, we are not talking about some band tribute to The Village People, but about the Hat Party that yelpers in Santiago enjoyed this wednesday as a pre Halloween celebration.

It was a night of mojitos, micheladas, cocktails and great apetizers provided by Moloko Vitacura, a promising brand new spot in Santiago's nightlife. And, of course, there was a hat contest, where mad hatters, chicken hats, panamas and fedoras presented a seriously fierce competition.

Yelp Des Moines Rocktober Party

Posted by Patrick

Des Moines Yelper's did not have to fight for their right to party! No backstage passes were needed for our communities first every Yelper Party.
Yelp Des Moines' Rocktober was filled with funky foods from Malo, Ritual Cafe, and Golden Dozen Cupcakery and we had enough local, regional, and national beers to fill a tour bus from Doll Craft Distribution!
Our Dj kept us dancing, while Elvis, Bob Dylan, Joey Ramone, Kurt Cobain, Courtney Love, Axl Rose, and Slash even showed up to participate in our Rock Star themed costume contest.
We raised money for RUNDSM a local non profit whose goal is to give teenagers a voice in our community through spoken word, slam poetry, and hip-hop.

Flying High In New Orleans At The National WWII Museum

Posted by Morgan

Come Fly Away With Yelp

"Come Fly Away With Yelp" at the famed National WWII Museum's US Freedom Pavilion: The Boeing Center brought out the most sizzling sponsors and over 800 Yelpers dressed to the nines to pay homage to wartime glory and the 1940s this past Friday.

There were bites and sweets to satisfy any palate, and tasty, local libations from here to Thibodaux to wash it down! The New Movement MC’s kept things swinging by introducing our live entertainment including The Victory Belles, The Back Porch Stompers, Dance Quarter's performers, and The Doc Holliday Band as well as crowning our Best Dressed Guy and Gal of the night.

But the hopping good times didn’t stop there. Magnolia Makeup painted sparkly lips on our guests to get snapped in the Big Easy Photobooth while others opted for a poem from our Poet for Hire Shawna Marie Beasley. For the guests looking for an authentic WWII experience, there was the museum’s “Final Mission: The USS Tang Submarine Experience.” This interactive experience incorporated sound, motion and digital graphics that gave our guests a taste of the conditions and realities of submarine warfare.

Documenting the night was Liz Daino of Liz Daino Photography and Alex Harvie, who live painted the event and gave half the proceeds to Grow Dat Youth Farm, our non-profit of the night that received nearly $4,000 in donations to further their mission of cultivating young leaders through the meaningful work of growing food. Hooray for a great party with a purpose! Relive the glory through our highly decorated reviews or step back in time by checking out our fabulous photos

Yelp Celebrates Local WNY Farmers At The Lodge

Posted by Alex L

This past Saturday, the community came together to celebrate our most beloved food producers at The Lodge --- a gorgeous two-story restaurant and bar. Chef Todd Lesakowski and his staff used ingredients provided by T-Meadow, Plato Dale, Dan Tower and Native Offerings Farm along with oyster mushrooms from Boston Valley Gourmet to concoct creative tasting dishes for almost 300 guests. The Mountain Run joined us for a killer set of bluegrass (which included a bluegrass cover of Radiohead’s High and Dry) as guests enjoyed and sipped samples of Lockhouse Distillery Vodka and Brooklyn Brewery beer. Read all the reviews of the event here and see all the fabulous photos on the Flickr page.

Bellevue Gets Brunched During Yelp's Road Trip

Posted by Katy

Blssed with perfect weather for our Road Trip weekend, Yelpers from both Seattle and Portland packed into Eques for an equally perfect brunch event. Before they could even get through the door, Elite members were offered a choice of Mimosa or champagne as they waited outside for the event to star. Once inside, the drinks still poured! Tacked onto the liquid list was an endless supply Bloody Mary's courtesy of the do-it-yourself garnish bar. Also set up were various buffet-style sampling stations featuring blurberry stuffed French toast, Eggs Benedict, and more. But don't let us spoil for you! Want to see how it all went down? Check out what the Elite Squad had to say in their reviews of the event here.
