Elitarny wieczór w Tajlandii (no dobra, w Warszawie)

Oczekiwanie na masaż umilało wino śliwke i tajskie przekąski: białe curry, pad thai z krewetkami, owoce i babeczki inspirowane tajskimi smakami. It's not supposed to be summer yet, but after excideengly long winter nobody seems to complain. It was easy to imagine that we actually were in Thailand during the Yelp Warsaw Elite Event in ThaiSunPicMonkey Collagekbcx

We found out what Thai massage actually is, in both theory and practice. While waiting for our 1:1s with a professional Thai masseues, we enjoyed plum wine and Thai snacks: white curry, Pad Thai with shrimp, fruit and Thai-style cupcakes. And Chinese fortune cookies that supposedly existed in Thailand as well. Yelp's Big Hat Party at Chiwawa

Spring was definitely in the air as Memphis Yelp's lucky Elites enjoyed perfect weather on a gorgeous patio during Yelp's Big Hat Party at Chiwawa (Like/follow them on Facebook, Twitter)!

Chiwawa1

Elites sipped on bottomless margaritas and sangria while sampling a rotation of small plate options, which included a little bit of everything from their menu, like mini Chiwawa dogs wrapped in bacon, quesadillas, and margarita snow cones!

Chiwawa2

Mingling with one another on the patio was a breeze as this was Memphis Yelp's largest Elite event to date with 60 in attendance and Phillip Van Zandt Photography (like him on Facebook) was there to document the festivities. You can check out the rest of his photos here

Chiwawa3

Elites were thrilled to see new faces as this was the first Yelp event for many! Tom E even rearranged his work schedule so he could make it! Check out all the rest of the awesome reviews and photos from Yelpers like you here

Chiwawa4

Thank you again to all of the Elites, who attended Yelp's Big Hat Party, and an especially huge thank you to Chiwawa!

Elites Feast at Medii Kitchen in Anaheim Hills

There was no shortage of food at our latest Elite tasting engagement at the new Medii Kitchen in Anaheim Hills. Though we were promised a five-course "tasting," what was really offered was more like an eight-course feast. Dishes such as olive tapenade, hummus, babaghanush, muhamara, sarmas, kibbeh, cheese boregs, fatoosh salads, chicken tenderloin kebobs and of course, house made baklava came out plate after plate until guests were literally ready to tap out from being stuffed. Shane D claims that the "muhamara was a revelation" and "is SO much better than traditional hummus." Chef Chris gladly shared the process of how it's made, and does so by "blending walnuts, red peppers, olive oil, bread crumbs, and pomegranate molasses."

Food

Andrew K was a fan of the great service. "The owner Chris and his wonderful staff were warm, friendly and welcoming. They were first to introduce themselves, came around each table to see how the guests were doing and took the time to explain in detail how the dishes were prepared. They had such a passion for good food and invited guests to share their thoughts about the dishes. Their proud mantra seems to be serving delicious traditional Mediterranean dishes using the finest ingredients and superior preparation methods."

Ambiance

Everyone left full of food and Yelp swag. Shanon Y was "highly impressed by the presentation and taste of all the dishes. The prices were also extremely affordable and I will definitely be coming back with family and friends in the future," she gushes.

Yelp BPB Has A Homecoming!

On April 30, Yelp Broward-Palm Beach had it's first Elite event since being detached from their brothers and sisters to the South - a celebration ensued! Yelp's Homecoming, at Rivals Waterfront Sports Grill, brought fourth some great music, the first sighting of Pinky, food, drinks, crowns, sashes and a whole bunch of new friends.
Staff
Elites - and their Homecoming dates - all decked out in Yelp colors of red and white showed up strong to support the new home team! Upon entering they were greeted with a selection of four mojitios - original, cucumber, blackberry or strawberry or for the beer drinkers there was Sam Adams, Bud Light, Coors Light and Miller Light on tap. With drink in hand they lined up for photo ops with Pinky the flamingo and dawned crowns, sashes and scepters giving everyone the chance to be king or queen for the night.
Drinks
DJs from Laria Productions set the tone with a wide range of music as the bites poured out of the kitchen. Guests grabbed bites as the great folks of Rivals passed plates of Monte Cristo sandwiches, Buffalo Spring Rolls, Quesadillas, Chicken & Mushroom flatbreads and Kobe Sliders. A feast fit for a king (or queen).
Food
With the night winding down it was time to announce the illustrious Homecoming Court! Gold Elites Greshka P and Cherine A got sashes, tiaras and were given Yelp schwag bags - which included Yelp Elite socks, making them the first in South Florida to have them!

Yelp Vancouver Unleash Their Alter-Egos

April 24th, 2013. An exceptionally clear and unstormy night. The Yelp Burst went out across the sky and Vancouver Elites near and far rose to the call, descending upon The Storm Crow Tavern in force as their alter-ego selves! From Pirate Ninjas to Sci Fi Superheroes, 85 costume clad Yelpers like Alicyn C let their "inner dork come out at The Storm Crow."

YelpVancouverEliteCollage1

From the Crow's own cucumber concoction to the tantalizing taps of Phillips Brew, guests wet their whistles with liquid libations aplenty. For Ben C, "Blue Buck beer and those awesome vodka drinks achieved critical mass for an outstanding Elite Party!" Not to be out done (and keeping people from being undone) attendees were treated to a wave of vegetarian appies off The Storm Crow's menu. "The chickpea fries with the spicy dip were amazing!" swoons newbie Elite Julie L.

YelpVancouverEliteCollage2

"It was great to see all of the old Yelpers again. Now mix that with great munchies, a violin playing DJ, and you got yourself a kick-ass geek party!!!" What's that Fritz S? A violin playing DJ?! It's true! Michael Fraser treated guests to sweet tunes and improvised live violin. Talk about multitasking!

YelpVancouverEliteCollage3

Pin Up Perfection Photography captured costumed glory at the cosplay photo booth and Kat S was "beyond thrilled. What a fabulous score!" And when Voracious V graced patrons with an impromptu sci-fi burlesque number Garth C made note - "Finishing off the night with a little surprise burlesque was just icing on the cake."

YelpVancouverEliteCollage5

A huge thank you to Martin and all of The Storm Crow staff for taking such good care of our superhuman Yelpers; to Jonny & Phillips Brewery for craft brew love; Michael Fraser and Voracious V for unforgettable entertainment; Stephanie from Dore Productions for roving photography, Aimee K - my moral support hailing from St. Louis; and to the Vancouver Elites who made this newly crowned CM Ninja feel right at home!

Yelp Craves-A-Rave @ KC Crave

Boom tiss. Boom boom tiss tiss. That’s sound of a rave if you didn’t know! Last night 60+ yelpers ascended on KC Crave Restaurant, glow sticks in hand, for an evening laced with snacks, spirits, and insatiable beats! “Great evening! The lights, the folks, the cucumber infused martinis, the glowsticks, the food, Monday night never looked so fly!” assures Rebecca D of Yelp Craves-A-Rave Elite Event. “The lowlight of the night was obviously the fact that this will be our last event with CM Katie C. TEAR!!!!!! But what better way to go out than with a bang!”

Cravecollage1

“The food was executed really well,” she continues. “A favorite of mine was the French toast served with a dollop of creme fraiche (I think) and fresh berries! Delish! The chef even managed to put a mint leaf on each little plate as well, love it!”

Cravecollage2

“The staff at KC Crave was on point, every time I turned around it was like drink, salmon, turkey, another drink, crab, lamb, drink, dessert!” raves Nate M. “I tried the Coconut Sangria (Chardonnay mixed with Fresh Fruit, Coconut Water, and a touch of Coconut Milk). I love Coconut, so this was an easy choice! Ruby A. and I loved this drink, it's so different and magically delicious...you can't find this anywhere...I would def come back to KC for it!”

Collage3

“I liked the real red skinned potatoes with wasabi and cream. Hand mashed to perfection,” approves brand-new Elite Mark B, who admits being mostly wowed by the fun-loving bartenders and attentive management. “We enjoyed talking the the GM and Culinary Adviser along with the Chef.

"The breeze fair aft, all sails on high, ten guns on each side mounted seen, she does not cut the sea but fly..." the Yeper Party brigantine! More than two hundred Yelpers gathered last Sunday on Moby Dick Club to celebrate one of the most interesting events this spring: Madrid first Yelper Party, the Love Boat!

Yelperparty4As Óscar Hmany Yelpers noticed "the huge amount of trunks, suitcases and various stuff to enjoy the summer" that became our sweet photocall, thanks to Marantikk. Speaking of which, it was as sweet as Sabores Ocultos cookies and BeSmoothie smoothies, two treats that Elena M and her guests enjoyed particularly. By his side Juan D will put some pressure on his workmates to buy Lise & Leti cookies for their upcoming birthdays. Anyway, he also loved the greek food by Jronia k Jronia!

Yelperparty6

Eugenio S was more inclined to the grape juice, so he let Crash Wines staff do all the talking. They explained their concept and the particularities of their wines. At the same time Rafael L tasted Adrede, one of the choices of Bodegabierta, while he also recommended the tapas featured by Los 3 CerditosJavi E came up with something really good from the event: he already has plans for the upcoming weeks! He will be visiting De Vinos for a tasting. But even though he really loves wine, he also enjoyed very much the cocktails provided by The Kraken Spiced Rum. One of the best assets of the party? Every passenger got home safe and sound thanks to MyTaxi!

Yelperparty7Do not forget to leave your impressions about the event here, take a look to the pictures and follow us on Facebook and Twitter. Do you want to be invited to events like this one? See if you have what it takes to be an Elite!

On a warm April eve, the Yelp Elites gathered at Boulevard Bar Lounge Theater. They were in for a treat. Peter D and his team had organized a great night - starting with some appetizers with beer and wine in the sun, followed by episode 14 of their very own live sitcom "Albisriederplatz" which convinced with a humorous storyline and Zurich dialect - it's as local as it gets. During the break and after the show we were treated with delicious food again, the "Creme Boulevard" being one of them. And again there was a competition, this time the attendants had to answer a guessing question to win a Yelp goodie bad including a Yelp tee. Also, the Yelp Elites got their 2013 Elite gift: absolutely sexy-looking red socks. Another great night with the Zurich Yelp Elite - and there are many more to come.

It's All Fun and Games at Yelp's "Game Day" at Lucky Strike in Orange

LET THE YELP GAMES BEGIN! Unlike the hunger version with Jennifer Lawrence, no Elites were harmed (or killed) during our event at Lucky Strike in Orange this past Tuesday.

Candids

Yelpers went crazy with their garbs and Tammy G "really loved the costume theme, and how many people participated." She was also happy that her "sixth grader's Dodgers jersey" fit perfectly for the occasion. Though her costume was amazing, she was "inspired by the human Rubik's cube, Monopoly Man, corn hole, the Mario and Packman gang, afro tennis player, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, war games, and Barry Bonds" threads that the guests donned for the evening. She affirms, the "human Twister deserved her prize, and my tickets" as she took home a pair of season passes to the 2013 Orange County Fair!

Costumes

There were a ton of activities for Yelpers of all ages including giant Jenga, corn hole, shuffleboard, billiards, live trivia, and of course… bowling! Though many "took pictures and bowled" Jonathan Z "spent most of the time at the pool table getting his butt handed to him by a fellow Yelper and playing trivia" where the grand prize was a $50 gift card to Lucky Strike!

Games

The generous hosts sampled new items off of their menu such as Belgian fries served with curry ketchup and chimichurri aioli, grilled chicken jerk skewers, classic blue cheese mini burgers and margherita pizzas. Howie C was a fan of the fries and claimed they were "to die for!" These "double fried, thick squared cut fries" came with a variety of dipping sauces, however his "favorite was the honey mustard." Though the sauce is "not on the menu" he assumes they'd be more than happy to "bring it out for you" if you asked nicely.

Food_collage

Of course, a night can't be complete without drinks. The venue sampled beers by Hangar 24 Brewery and cocktails like the Hangar 1 Blueberry Moscow Mule, Three Olives Cherry Mojito and 1800 Silver Margarita. Sukhraj B compliments the "bartenders who were and awesome and served some stiff drinks" and deemed the "cherry mojito and blueberry Moscow Mule as a hit!"

Cocktails

No prizes were awarded for the games, however nobody went home empty handed as the highly anticipated Elite socks made an appearance and into the hands of yearning guests. Julie L loved the gift that were not only "fluffy and very well made," but they are definitely her favorite piece of "swag to date!"

Thanks so much Lucky Strike! We all had a blast and your staff was amazing.

Yelp's (Not) Sari For Partying At Kiran's!

Kiran's – Houston's premier Indian restaurant – welcomed the Yelp Elite Squad for a Sunday social complete with all things spicy, sultry, and oh so sweet!

Intro1

Chef Kiran was on the scene, mingling with yelpers as they savored delicious bites created by her team. As a sea of hors d'oeuvres were passed around – mini bowls of Pindi Chana, skewers of Chicken Seekh Kebab, coconut shrimp, samosas and a dessert buffet – oohs and ahhs echoed throughout the room.

Peeps
With so many robust and spicy flavors heating up palates, the bar was certain to concoct the most thirst-quenching Beam Inc. bevs! Welcome to the Elite Squad, South Bay Newbies!

Generally speaking, being the new kid on the block is not one's goal. Not only are you unsure of yourself, but being on the bottom of the totem pole can be the pits. But not in South Bay! Newbie Elites who had their badge for 6 months or less were treated to a welcome shindig at Asian Box in Mountain View. Gotta show these baby VIP's some of the perks of being on the Squad...

Asian Box Collage 1

Asian Box is a restaurant that bridges the gap between fast casual and your favorite neighborhood joint. A place where you can stop by anytime with friends or family for an incredible meal at an incredible price. All responsibly raised, farmed, and made. Created by FK Restaurants & Hospitality CEO Frank Klein, who is a veteran of the national restaurant scene. Frank loves Vietnamese food because he feels that freshly prepared it is the most flavorful cuisine with greatly diverse flavors. As CEO Frank insists, The Box is always using fresh and sustainably raised and grown products.

Executive Chef Grace Nguyen was raised in a traditional Vietnamese family where she began cooking with her grandmother at an early age. She brings authentic recipes and techniques coupled with a keen eye and palate for quality ingredients. Gracie worked with some of the finest chefs in the country and her recent work with Charles Phan at his world famous Slanted Door and Bush Street OTD restaurants in San Francisco brought her home to her cooking roots.

YEE Collage

A very intimate crew of Elites-only were welcomed into the restaurant and escorted to their very own dining table. Here, they ordered their own customm Vietnanmese box from the menu to pair with Asian Box's house made teas and coffee or glass of wine. "Kudos to Asian Box for the hella muscles food," cheered Marty H. He "had the shrimp with brown rice and tamarind sauce" and doesn't "even remember scarving it down. I just remember not having any left at the end. According to cheferoo, everything is gluten free and made-to-order." It's true, they are 100% gluten free!

Asian Box collage 2

Culinary Director Chad Newtown joined the party towards the end of the evening to explain his role with the restaurant, including their healthy, eco-friendly philosophy and to share that they're opening up a third location in San Francisco later this year. "It was really cool of the founder of Asian Box to introduce himself and give us some history about the restaurant," said Kevin N.

Newbie Philip W "Got Yelp Elite [status] 2 weeks ago and this event was proof that all that work was worth it! Amazing food, great people, and a really chill atmosphere. Asian Box's design is pretty cool, from the multitude of combos of food to the 100% landfill-diversion." He's "actually taking some friends to the Palo Alto branch tomorrow- that impressed!" Lois K and the crew loved the food and being treated so special, "But of course what really makes any event is the people. All the yelpers at the event were really friendly and easy to talk to, which made for a wonderful evening of lively conversation, yummy eats, and newfound Yelper friends!

Yelp's Garden Party: Perth's first-ever Yelper Party!

On Saturday night 300 Yelpers walked through the gates of Perth City Farm to celebrate Perth's first-ever Yelper Party. The night was especially momentous as it also marked Yelp Perth's first birthday.

From crowns of flowers to flowing floral frocks, people took the floral dress code of this Yelper Garden Party very seriously. It wasn't just the guests who were looking dazzling either. From twinkling lights in the tress to the hand-picked pieces of furniture throughout the venue styled by project BLAK, everyone and everything looked truly beautiful.Yelper Party 2
The first stop in the garden were Highgate heroes El Publico. Handing out their famous tacos, Yelpers were mmming and ahhing straight after arriving, over these pork and onion wonders.Yelper Party 3Next, Red Hot Spatula - the food stall, caterering and cooking class extraordinaires. Their pulled pork sliders and shot glasses of Asian inspired laksa pumpkin soup were a real hit. Yelper Party 1
The BBQ was firing and creating some mouth-watering aromas at Smoult's Continential Deli's stall. The lovely ladies had an unbelievable spread of some of the gourmet products they stock at their Maylands location. Yelper Party 4
The knowledgeable folks at James Squire were kind enough to walk us through their craft brewing process, with samples of two of their very tasty ales and a particularly refreshing cider. Yelper Party 5
Single vineyard winery House of Cards came from Margaret River for the evening to let all the lucky guests try their wonderful premium red, white and sparking creations. Yelper Party 6
On the other side of the garden past guests lounging on chesterfields or posing for the photo booth, Katie from Delish Ice was handing out her gourmet ice poles from her turquoise vintage caravan. It was hard to pick a favourite with all the recipes bursting with fresh ingredients like lychee and star anise or Ginger Beer, Mint and Lime. Yelper Party 7
Of course there was cake too! A grand display of all kinds of creative garden inspired cupcakes covered Top The Cupcake's stall. Vanilla and chocolate sponge adorned with delicate iced rose petals and chocolate ladybugs. Yelper Party 8
Through tasting their delicious range Josh and Jacq of Bahen & Co Chocolate showed guests how the old world machines they use gently tease out and capture the individual character of the beans.

All the sugar and some fun beats being laid down by Player 1 & 2 resulted in a slamming dance-floor by the end of the night, with the crowd calling out for "one more" after the last song.

A massive thank you to all the businesses involved in last night's Perth Yelper Party debut and of course to Perth City Farm for hosting the event in their magical venue.

Elite indulgence at Sidecar Doughtnuts and Coffee in Costa Mesa

On Wednesday, a small group of Elites were given the opportunity to sample offerings from the not-yet-open Sidecar Doughnuts and Coffee in Costa Mesa.

Elites

The afternoon started with a variety of coffee samplings from Stumptown Coffee, the grind proudly served at the bakery. This afternoon pick me up included lattes, cappucinos, drips and even an iced Vietnamese version which Jeni C proclaimed "was on par with the best of them; not too sweet, and strong as hell!"

Doughnutdisplay.jpg

Lucky attendees not only sampled flavors such as raspberry, Callebaut Chocolate, toasted coconut, cinnamon crumb, huckleberry, lemon poundcake, birthday cake and more, they also got the opportunity to roll out and cut their own with Executive Chef Brooke. Though it's hard to pick favorites, Kelley U affirms she would have to choose either the "Callebaut Chocolate which was a raised chocolate doughnut with frosting and chocolate pearls" or the coconut cream-fIlled Masaladas (Portuguese doughnuts) that were just scrumptious!"

Creation

It was definitely a day of sugar, but the wonderful owners Sumter and Chi-lin made it even sweeter by sending off Yelpers with a box full of Sidecar swag and doughnuts for the road.

Birmingham Elite Yelpers got their margarita on at Pinche's Tacos!

If Birmingham Yelpers were looking for an extra excuse to go to Pinche's Tacos, then the FREE margaritas and FREE Pinche's Tacos was it.  Since it was the first Yelp Elite event in Birmingham, we used it as an excuse to meet each other and enjoy the free goodies.  Yelp's Pinches Tacos Margarita Mixer wouldn't have been possible without the generosity of Pinche's Tacos and Sauza tequila.

Pinches collage 2

Pinches graciously filled everyones bellys with their famous flautas and a taco bar that was second to none. To wash it all down, Sauza provided the tequila for traditional and Pinches' famous "blood orange" margaritas.  "Their flautas and blood orange margaritas are a serious craving of mine, so given a day when there's a bounty of them in front of me was a dangerous (albiet welcomed) indulgence," said Danielle S.  It wasn't just the food and drinks she loved, "The photo booth was surprisingly fun.  Thanks to it, and the margaritas, I have some fantastic pictures that I got to take home."

Pinches collage 1
Yelpers, for the first time in Birmingham, got to experience how Yelp is about to become a part of this town.  People walked in with curiosity and uncertainty, but left anticipating the next Yelp Elite Event.  The two hours flew by pretty quick, so we all owe a big thanks to the photo booth for the memories.  The photographer, Chris Amerson, had a nack for getting party goers to jump in front of the camera, even when they weren't ready to show their party faces.  Meredith H thought is was, "a very fun first event!"

I can't thank Pinche's Tacos, Sauza Tequila, and Chris Amerson enough for making this event so succsesful. Thanks to the Elites for showing up and making this event what it was.  I'd have looked really silly eating all that food by myself.  If you were lucky enough to be there, don't forget to post a review.  If you don't want to miss the next one, find out how to become Elite by going to http://yelp.com/elite

A Cure For The Rochester Elite Squad

The time finally came for Rochester's FIRST Elite Event! Our Elite Squad celebrated their new, shiny Elite '13 badges together at Cure, a trendy epicurean spot in Rochester’s Public Market. The event goers met their fellow yelpers, swapped stories in real life and got to know a fab business – ice breakers included.

Yelp Rochester Elite Collage Cure2
Owner Chuck Cerankosky and executive chef Dan Martello concocted the menu featuring sips and treats from their innovative menu of craft cocktails and French-inspired cuisine. “Bleed the Monkey was probably one of the best cocktails I've ever had (no exagg, y'all) - pineapple salt?” Laura W was in awe.

Yelp Rochester Elite Collage Cure

While sipping their aperitifs, Elites munched on a variety of hors d’oeuvres including handmade sausages, bánh mi crostinis, olive tapenades, and rilletes. Suffice it to say, the bánh mi bites were a hit as Kimberly J wrote, “50th rave comment about the bánh mi: [insert here] Damn those were good.” The guests parted ways with full bellies and Chris L, “left feeling really good about hanging out with Yelp friends and about Cure as an establishment.”

Thanks to photographer Lauren McLaughlin for all her beautiful snaps.

Yelp Singapore Shucks Up, And Has Dessert

Singapore – Orchard Central was hit by a wave of racuous Yelp Elites as they rocked a super-secret-super-special-TWO-IN-ONE Elite event last Tuesday night! In honour of Yelp's half-year anniversary in our little tropical paradise, The Elite squad - new faces and all - met at Tanuki Raw where we were treated to the menu's unique blend of American diner food with Asian flavours!Tanuki1Ever had an American roll? It's better described as a cheeseburger sushi, wrapped in rice, and deep-fried, tempura style. Add to that a spicy fish taco, and a cheesesteak in a steamed bao bun... Genius, we cried! We washed those babies down with martinis overlooking the bustling streets, and you think you'd be set for the night.

Tanuki2
But wait... there's more! Michelle M downed her classy cocktail, pinkie up and all, but was "whisked away to the next double secret location, where we all figured that we must've died somehow since we ended up at Seventh Heaven and were served copious amounts of ice cream in cupcake trays! It didn't stop there- we were also served ice cream with waffles, ice cream with pancakes, and ice cream cake slices the size of our faces!"

7heaven1
Julian C had a great experience at his "first ever Yelp gathering and will definitely be back for more. Really think it was a great idea to go for dessert (thanks Marcus for convincing me to stay) as it was easier to talk and mingle over a long table full of ice cream to share."

7heaven2
Many many thanks to Howard and the crew and Tanuki Raw for tasty bites and boozy beverages, and also to Greg, Rene, and Jason of Seventh Heaven for the delectable desserts, not to mention making us feel like rockstars with those awesome membership cards... you know we'll be back. Gus and Seb of Pixelmusica were back to supply these gorgeous snaps, and of course, don't forget to check out all the reviews here!

You snooze you lose (yes, here's a picture of me commandeering a waffle),

---

It was about time for Yelp Elite Squad in Madrid to roll up their sleeves and prepare their own food! So Madrid Yelpers had the chance to take one of the quick cooking workshops at Apetit'Oh! where Luis and Jeny taught all the attendees in just one hour and a half some basic cooking techniques that helped later to prepare a whole menu.

Collage3Everyone collaborated and played the chef for some minutes, getting to cook grilled zucchini pie, pasta ribbons with saffron scallops, shitake with prawn and soya sprouts and mini hamburgers made of dill marinated salmon with mustard sauce. Later the Squad also could taste the fruits of their work, along with sips of Anae albariño wine and Monólogo Rioja wine.

Collage4Thanks to Luis and Jeny for their patientence teaching the Squad all the recipes and, specially... thanks to the Elite Squad for their hard work! Don't forget to leave your review of the event, take a look to the pictures taken by Ana López-Varela and follow us on Facebook and Twitter. Do you want to come to one of this parties? Don't forget to RSVP for our upcoming Yelper Party!

Until then... See You On Yelp!

  Yelp-studio068-2

Yelp Warszawa: Kino i kanapki

Rebus

16 marca 2013 to historyczna data w historii warszawskiego Yelpa. W tę mroźną sobotę odbyła się pierwsza elitarna yelpowa impreza. Członkowie Elity 2013 spotkali się w Sklepie z Kanapkami, gdzie w przytulnej, kameralnej sali kinowej odbył się specjalny seans "Zaklętych rewirów".   Bla

GleKino i kanapki to chyba udane połączenie, prawda? Do następnego razu!  BleMarch 16th 2013 - this is an important date in the history of Yelp Warsaw. On this frosty Sunday afternoon the very first Elite event was held. We met in a private screening room at Sklep z Kanapkami (which easily translates to Sandwich Shop). Needles to say, we ate tons of sandwiches and watched a classic Polish-Czech movie from the '70s, Zaklęte rewiry.  DSC_6181 copyBecause of the cold weather, there were mulled wine spice sachets in the goodie bags - so that evertyone could prepare a warming drink after coming back home.HuCinema and sandwiches (kino i kanapki) seem to be perfect for each other and Warsaw Elite yelpers all agree on that one. Good movie, good sandwich and good company - that's the recipe for a perfect Saturday afternoon! You can read the reviews on the event page on Yelp. For more photos, check out Facebook or Flickr.

Yelpers Taste Weird, Wacky And Wonderful Wines At Vine Arts

“Who ever thought Brazil made wines?! And Austria? How about sparkling red wines? Or a white Pinot Noir?!” exclaimed Sabahat N.

Wine1
On Thursday eve, a small group of Yelp Calgary Elites were toured through a world of Weird, Wacky and Wonderful Wines at Vine Arts by sommelier and co-owner, Jesse Willis. Seated in the private tasting room at the front of this new wine, spirits and beer boutique store, Elites were exposed to a half dozen different wines of less common grape varieties and countries.

“I loved the area at the front of the shop, which showcased a massive wooden table reclaimed from a pool table and a large barrel. It was a small space that allowed us to get to know some of our fellow Yelpers better,” concluded Stacy A.

Wines sampled included the NV Pronto Lambrusco Dell’Emilia IGT from Romagna, Italy; 2010 Ghosthill Cellars Pinot Noir Blanc from Oregon, USA; 2010 Rabl Gruner Veltliner Kamptal Reserve from Austria; 2011 Carlin de Paolo Grignolino from Piemonte, Italy; 2010 Miolo Tannat from Campanha, Brazil; and Chateau d’Orignac Pineau des Charentes from Cognac France.

Wine2
The choice wines for Danelle W “were the white wine from Austria (the lingering taste was completely different from drinking the wine itself), both reds and the cognac. I purchased a bottle of the Brazilian red and the cognac to take home. Nom!”

Kent V is “more of a beer drinker,” but he left “appreciating [wine] just a little bit more. Would I be able to have a discussion about wine with my connoisseur friends? Probably not. But I'll at least be able to drink it and appreciate it, and not chug it just to get drunk.”

Wine3
Bruce G also " found the Brazilian Miolo Tannat hit an excellent balance between sweet/dry and light/heavy. It was my choice of accompaniment for the delectable charcuterie tray" that topped off our evening from Taste!

Tiffany N sums up the tone of the tasting: “Our host, Jesse, did an excellent job explaining each wine to us without delving in to the Forest of Pretentiousness. Yes, there were moments of waxing wine geekery, but I chalked that up to the simple fact that this is a man that loves what he does and is overflowing with it.”

A special thanks to Brittany M for taking our party photos!

Elites Take Customization to a Whole New Level at Burrissimo Fresh Italian

Create your own pasta? Awesome.
Create your own burrito? Rad.
Put your pasta in a burrito? WHOA.

Burrissimo_Yelpers.jpg

Burrissimo Fresh Italian in Costa Mesa treated lucky Elites to this new concept where they could customize their salads, pastas and burritos to no end. Jonathan Z was a fan of the signature handheld and gushed: "I came up and ordered their standard Burrissimo with crispy chicken. I put the usual suspects inside (angel hair pasta, diavolo sauce, some ratatouille, mozzarella, and Parmesan) and even after I let it sit for 15 minutes, it was still crispy!" He boasts that it was "so large I took half of it home as a one a.m. snack." Now that's the meal that keeps on giving.

On top of the generous entree, the guests of honor were treated to pizza rolls, breadsticks with honey butter and self-serve Italian sodas. No meal is complete without dessert; the venue passed fresh baked zeppoles (Italian donuts) served hot, rolled in cinnamon and served with raspberry and frosting dipping sauces.

BurrissimoFood.jpg

At the end of the night, we held a raffle where Yelpers could win prizes such as shirts, watches, DVDs, passes to Laguna Art Museum, tickets to OC's Largest Mixer and a party tray from the restaurant for the winner's next big social gathering. But no-one left empty handed! Our wonderful hosts sent everyone home with gift bags stuffed with free meal coupons, bottles of their local made hot sauces and more.

Burrissimo_raffles.jpg

Not only was the food amazing, the service was stellar. From the moment we arrived until the last person left, the staff was warm and welcoming. Emily Y loved their "good vibe and energy" and how "attentive during the tasting" they were. "You can tell they really believe in what they do and it carries over to the food." True story.

We Made it in MTL: Potluck Party!! On l'a fait à MTL : Party Potluck

The most marvelous and intrepid Montreal Yelp Elites and their honored guests partied in the gorgeous industrial chic of the Atelier B boutique at the We Made it in Montreal Potluck Party! The Yelper's foodie fabulousness was drool worthy and jaw dropping, from Matthew P's homemade pizza and Anthony K's ribs and every tasty little morsel in-between they truly went above and beyond the call of duty on an oh so snowy Wednesday. Katherine B thought "the only thing that could make it even better is if certain someones shared their respective Guinness brownies and mac & cheese balls recipes." Wink wink nudge nudge poke!!

As Rowan U put it, "Usually a potluck with Strangers From The Internet would NOT be something I could recommend, but with the Yelp crowd it great success" and this was because Yelpers are lovely, and also thanks to our adorable Atelier B hosts, our terrifically cool Dj B.Road of the Toune du Jour blog - who wanted you all to have this Montreal Mixtape to remember him by - and our dapper photographer Jean-Michael Seminaro who helped us confirm what we have long suspected, that you are soo good lookin'. Check out the photos and reviews here, and till next time,

See you on Yelp!

Collageatelierb

Yelp Elites Go Whisky Tasting in Birmingham

It may have been a school night but last Tuesday, Yelp Elites were invited to a tasting by Whisky Birmingham. The organisers are currently planning Birmingham's first whisky festival but Amy & Joe kindly took time out to introduce Yelpers to this fine Scottish spirit.

Whisky collage 1
Joe picked five whiskies for Yelpers to try, but before they drank them, he taught everyone how to! Similar to wine, the first lesson learnt was how to smell it and then Yelpers sipped. No downing-in-one for these beautiful honey coloured concontions.

Whisky was being desribed as smelling and tasting like smoky bacon, orange, sultanas, chlorine, chocolate, TCP, BBQs and pencil shavings!

Whisky Collage 2

In a lovely fun environment, Yelpers were encouraged to ask questions about whisky that they were too afraid to ask. They sat back and relaxed in a private room in Loki Wine while Joe talked about the regions in Scotland where the whiskies came from.

  Whisky Collage 3

Everyone left with a renewed or new love for whisky and vowed to be back for the cheese and whisky tasting. So huge thanks to Amy and Joe from Whisky Birmingham for giving the fabulous whisky education.

Thank you to Loki Wines for hosting in their elegant private room and to all the yelpers who came and made it such a fantastic Tuesday night!

Yelp Elite: Salute Your Sweets

Bracing the cold February air, Elites came out to Copper Cupcake for a fun filled night of all things sugary and sweet at Yelp Elite: Salute Your Sweets! There was plenty of hot cider, wine and treats from Copper Cupcake to kick off our sugar rushes: whoopie pies, oatmeal cranberry with coconut cookies, fudgy chocolate brownies, snickerdoodle cookies were just a few of the scrumptious eats – and best of all was their bourbon caramel sauce to drizze on all of it!

CollageSYS1

Yelp Elites split up into two camps to rotate through the Salute Your Sweets activities. Copper Cupcake's "Delciousness Maker" Shannon Loucks shared her secrets with us on the art of making vanilla buttercream frosting and after making our own, we decorated them to our hearts content. Kathy V marveled at using "real vanilla. I'd only ever seen it handled on Food Network!" Matt R's highlight was "seeing the underbelly of the bakery. Copper Cupcake is a tightly-run ship. They make a lot of seasonal items, depending on what's available locally. If you try to flavor with extracts, that will earn you a roundhouse punch to the face. And don't try putting shortening in that icing." It melts at a higher temp than butter and leaves that unfortunate sticky coating in your mouth, which is why Shannon uses the real deal instead!

CollageSYS2

Copper Cupcake's Joe Loucks schooled us on chocolate and foodie knowledge, leading a whirlwind game of trivia with interactive components too. Amanda J thought "questions were very interesting and he even had edible props like nibs," which are bits of raw cacaco beans that have been roasted. "It was a close game, but we came out on top. Woot woot!" Jessica L was psyched to get "some awesome Yelp undies to show for it!"

CollageSYS3

Thanks again to all the Elites who came out and had a blast with us at Yelp Elite: Salute Your Sweets. Also, thanks go out to Joe, Shannon and the wonderful staff at Copper Cupcake! This sugar rush isn't going away anytime soon thanks to you guys and we know where to find you to get our next fix...especially since everyone left with a suh-weet gift certificate for a cupcake. Check out the rest of the photos on our Flickr page and special thanks to Kate Hentrup for the lovely photography!

Was wäre ich, was wäre Yelp ohne die Yelper?

– Ok, e Pappnas.

--------------------

A new era has begun. Yelp finally takes off in Cologne. With a yelptastic start in the year 2013 we kicked off we the Meet the CM. What would we be, what would I be without my squad of great Yelpers. With this pioneer spirit we start out to rock this city. And what better location to start from, if not the Hallmackenreuther. With a lounge that is stuffed full with technological highlight (backlit walls) and even more athmosphere. After checkin in and making their ways through the photobooth, the amazing and world famous Hallmackenreuther-Chili-Con-Carne seduced the starving croud.

While our Paul Kalkbrenner look-alike DJ Sascha Legill played his magic on the turntables (real venyl records), photographer Phillip Mecke got some great shots from our photogenic crowed, first Yelpers claimed their Check-In presents. The Yelp Swag Bag was filled with things Cologne Yelpers will need to be ready for the road. From gloves to bottle openers.

Big THANKS goes to the Hallmackenreuther team around Cyrus, he really gave our night a frame with the best location. Our DJ Sascha Legill gave it the right touch, so we felt most comfortable with dancing on tables. The photos of Phillip Meck turned out great! We were so happy to have hom with his great spirit joining for this event. And my special Thanks goes to Stan and the team of Qypers that made this event even better for all of us!

See you soon on Yelp!

Profondo Yelp!

 ------

A small Sardinian corner in the very city center, just two steps far from Porta Venezia: a challenge that the young owners of B-Next took up without esitation and full of love for their homeland. There we tasted luscious pane carasau and seadas, drinking a wonderful red wine that inspired us some of the most funny Flashdance-style pictures of the year, together with a Ola for the business owners! Fabrizia A and Federica proudly won two prizes, the first being crowned Best Reviewer of the month and the second Most Red Yelp Woman of the night. My love goes to Giovanni R, who came with a special gift for the CM, of course.

In February 2013 it was time for Zurich's second Elite Event. The fabulous Elite Squad was invited to Barfly'z for a cocktail mix-course. After getting a welcome-strawberry-margarita, the Elites could chose one out of 200 coktails from the menu. After a round of very delicious and fruity shots, everybody got to mix their very own cocktail with the help of Alex, our bartender. Of course there was a competition this time as well: the attendees shot great photos of the event and instantly uploaded and voted for them with their likes on the app. After reviewing all 85 photos it was to be found that Jonas R had won tickets to the Salon du Chocolat. We ended the event with another round of shots and some announcements: Mindy H, our first and only Swiss Gold Elite Yelper was present and got a big round of applause as well as a Yelp t-shirt.

A big thanks to Barfly'z and their bartender Alex for the witty and cool introduction to the mistery of mixology. Also a big thanks to our fabulous photographer Mario H from Blendwerk for the great photos.

Read here what the Elites thought about the event as well as to check out the competition-photos. Or check out all of of event-photos here.

Denn ohne coole Leute, keine coole Party!

In diesem Sinne bis zum nächsten Mal,

"The first big event this year was the hit", gushs Björn R.
Together with Qype we threw an exclusive night for the Hamburg Yelp Elite and the VIQs (Very Important Qypers) at Möwe Sturzflug. The fun started at 8pm sharp! The guests nibbled on delicious bread canapeés made by LaDouce Catering and got to enjoy Vodka Bazic (made in Hamburg!), Carlsberg and Vitaminwater. The highlight of the night was the balloon contest: Armed with personal cards and their favorite balloon, guests conquered the streets of St. Pauli and set off a cloud of red and blue balloons. Finders of a balloon and the owner of the card are promised a surprise package, so let´s keep our fingers crossed for the first found cards to be send in! Afterwards the action continued on the photo couch with lots of posing and laughing. Take a look at all the pics and the yelpers opinions.

See you next time!

Memphis Elites Celebrate The Chinese New Year at Mosa Asian Bistro

To kick off the Year of the Snake, Memphis Elites partied Wednesday night away at Mosa Asian Bistro! The East Memphis restaurant hosted an intimate evening full of sake, delectable Asian dishes, and conversation to the max. Now that is something to toast to!

Openingcollage

"Wowza!" and "Please, sir, may I have some more?" was heard all around as Elites gobbled up delicious samples of Mosa's most popular dishes like Jiao Zhe Bowl, Rainbow Panang Curry Chicken and Vegetable Pad See U. There wasn't a dish left untouched!

Foodcollage

Sippin' on some sake was another highlight of the evening and as Bryan N puts it, "With great food from Mosa, amazing company from Yelp, and fun diversions such as the Yelp wheel, the evening was flawless and fluid. Speaking of fluids, the sake imbibed that night provided fantastic themed social lubrication, and if there is one thing Yelpers enjoy more than spirited events it's spirited events with spirits." It also encouraged participation in photos with silly props that can all be seen here.

Peoplecollage

A huge thank you to our wonderful host, Mosa Asian Bistro, for the yummy treats and to Buster's Liquors and Wines for the sake!

Until next time, SYOY!

Yelp's Smashing Social At Smashburger Katy

It was the first of times, it was the best of times. Yup, this was the first Yelp Elite Squad Event in the Katy/Cinco-Ranch area hosted at the newest Smashburger in Katy, Texas – and 30 of Yelp's finest enjoyed a smashing good time!

Elites samples all varieties of fried goodies, from their famous Smashfries, sweet potato fries, fried pickles, haystack onions, and flash-fried veggies. Non-meat eaters got down on the Spicy Baja Black Bean Burger, while carnivores noshed on an assortment of mouthwatering meaty bites: The Classic, Mushroom Swiss, Buffalo Chicken and so many others. As King T put it: "Tons of food, which you can never complain about (especially if its Smashburger)." And this mighty Smash feast was washed down with Smashshakes and cold Texas beer

Jealous yet? You should be. Every guest walked away with a goodie bag filled with Yelp schwag and SmashBucks for their next visit. Catch the full scoop on the event with testimonials straight from yelpers' mouths – along with food-coma inducing pics!

Yelp @ Amsterdam Fashion Week: Tales Of The Unicorn

Yelp Amsterdam brings you: The Official Amsterdam Fashion Week 2013!
Fashionista's, designers, make up artists and fabric-lovers; from 18 till 27 January 2013 gives Amsterdam fashion a whole new meaning...  The part associated with Fashion Week is mostly 'Uptown'; it includes the famous "bravo, bravo" fashion shows, Champagne-sippin' stylists, supermodels, and all the fashion galore for people 'in the industry', which is not accessible for us Plain Janes & Regular Joes. BUT, and this concerns you dear Amsterdammer, there is also a part named AFW Downtown: fun events, special offers & discounts at local stores, fashion shows, and events available for everyone!   Offers & Discounts throughout Amsterdam!

Let us inform you: As Yelp connects locals to great local businesses, Yelp Amsterdam has a special partnership with Amsterdam Fashion Week; The Yelp Community Manager Philippine W and the fabulous Elite Georgina P are exploring the city to report Downtown to you! Who do we meet, what are we doing and how can we 'regular, non-fashion-related Amsterdammers' experience the Amsterdam Fashion Week? What happens when you unleash us in Fashionland? If there was any a time to bring out our Yelp Amsterdam mascotte: it has to be now! The Yelp Unicorn represents, well basically anyone in the city. Yes, that also means you! We take this magical creature everywhere as though we were taking you, lovely, with us on our adventures. We have in store for you: a daily update of multiple events & our adventures in this blog; so you can read what Downtown is all about & decide if you'd like to join in on the fun.

We're all unicorns… Join Us!

Friday 18.01CELEBRATE! The Official Openingparty

Day 1: "Ceeeeeelebrate good times, c'mon"! Oh, yes, we were soon to be part of 'Kool & the Gang' of the who-is-who in Amsterdam's Fashionland with a shiny invitation to the official Openingsparty of Amsterdam Fashion Week! Unicorn: check, camera: check, 22.30 sharp: check, we knocked on the guestlist's door, as we didn't want to be fashionably late.  Ehm yes, as it turned out, the rest of Fashionland was... Lesson learned: check. It was gezellig, it was fun! The atmosphere was very relaxed; a joyful bunch of people and not too fashionable so we didn't feel out of place. Just for the record, the theatrical show was amazing! And a little bit eerie: two poirots hanging from the ceiling, dancing with light-effects. Just sayin'... The music wasn't really our cup-of-tea in AIR 1, lovely band Daily Brand though, but mostly we hysterically danced to Doppelgang in AIR 2! And we wondered... will this look be sooo 2013? There were more striking outfits that we pondered: to trend or not to trend? We were actually hoping to see more excentric looking fahsionista's, artists, designers, or 'famous people'. Perhaps they will show themselves at SALUTE. Inspiration came to us in many ways: We spotted the local designers Jonathan & Marinde, who looked very 'fashionable' to us and stole our hearts. We named them "The Vexing Twins " for the rest of the evening. We saw some great (bows, bowties, retro earrings, shoes)- and not so great (milli vanilli & Texas belts)- looks and we realised: we can relax... There were lots of 'studs' / 80s-inspired accessoires, and sequins. Do you have some sparkling 80s-looking accessoiries in your wardrobe? Then you're ready for 2013CELEBRATE! Wild night…

Downtown Weekend 19-20 January

"It's a beautiful daaay"! AFW app downloaded: check, bicycles: check. Excited? CHECK! Let's see what AFW-Oud-Zuid has got to offer today... First Stop: College Hotel for the PETITE Fashion for Kids. Soooo adorable! I never expected that I would enjoy it as much as I did; overall children and me are not the best of friends. But. This. Was. Fun! Little soon-to-be-models showing clothing from Oilily and ByKyra and giving it their best. Seriously a recommendation for all you parents, well this might appeal more to the women; go have coffee with your girlfriends in style, there are nannies who can look after your little ones, there's a playroom and enjoy children's fashion wear with your kids. For all you Toddlers & Tiara-moms: you can also have your daughter enter the fashion show. Just sayin'... Afterwards, it was time for the Goodiebag-Quest! So many shops (about 60!) were offering a special discount/offers/goodiebag, so we had to make choices; if you want to act truly Dutch, you need a structured tour. We started at the Beethovenstraat; picked up the goodiebags from DA Boogaard & Douglas (lovely angel in the store), had some Starbucks Coffee (recharge) and followed our way to Inglot for the make up workshop! You could get a full make-up-make-over and have professional, amazingly looking photos taken. For free! While discussing tips 'n' tricks for applying eyeliner, my eyes wondered off to an amazingly looking woman in a bright, blue jumpsuit. As it turns out, it's Astrid Elisee! You can buy her 100% silk jumpsuits with 20% discount which, in my head, equals 200% I-want-it-modus. While we were chatting away, guess what?! I'm going to wear one of her designs this Saturday! So. Check. Me. Out at the Vodafone Firestarters... Ok, getting ahead of ourselves.

Feeling luxurious, feeling beautiful (thank you Inglot), off to see the Conservatorium Hotel and what better place than to step into the sparkling world of jewelry? Bonebakker hosted a special event with High Fashion Travel and Piet Paris! We met the founder, Helen, and spoke about her concept: organizing exclusive fashion travels, e.g. to Florence, with going backstage to fashionshows, going to well know fashion houses, and learn from craftsmen. Later when I grow up, I want to Travel High Fashion. We also got to know more about Piet, who is one of the fashionworld's greatest illustrators for 20 years already! Needless to say, we regular-non-fashion-related Amsterdam girls weren't aware of that we were talking to 'fashion celebrities'... They were both so kind and friendly! Fashion people are awesome! Full stop. Time flies, so we swiftly flew off to the Grand Marnier Pop Up Catwalk and Models on Ice. All we could think: "Beautiful girls, beautiful clothes but MY aren't they freezing"?! Poor girls... Back to the Conservatorium Hotel for the special Amsterdam Fashion Week cocktail! They look pretty girly but I can tell you; they're strong ones. *Sigh*. What a day... Never knew that running around town, getting loads of things for free, meeting so many genuinly, nice, and creative people, buying new clothes (sorry joined bank account) turned out to be so inspiring!  Downtown Saturday. Fascinating!

Snowy Sunday 20.01

"Let it snow, let it snow", ooooh behold: snowy Sunday! Frost, flakes, or slipperly slopes, couldn't stop our newly discovered pasjon for fasjon. It did make it a bit more difficult though... As many Amsterdam unicorns, we also didn't feel truly safe on our bikes. First stop: looking at the Zohra Murad designs at the Hampshire Beethoven Hotel. The designs look stunning, don't get us wrong, but there are only 2 dresses on display. Fan of Zohra? Then definitely check out her designs in real life. Not much of a fan? Nah, then you don't miss much. The catwalk show at Claudia Sträter was fun, although it was a bit uncomfortable to watch; outside, the snow falls and a lovely girl shows summer wear... We've noticed bright colours, such as orange, pink, and yellow for this summer. Hmmm not sure how my complexion feels about this, perhaps I need to skip this trend. Alice told us all about her brand Colori, what's in a name? Colours, shoes & bags in lots and lots of colours. We poured ourselves another glass of Prosecco, hopped onto our bikes and we felt the need to explore the PC Hooftstraat, how's that for luxury?! Shoebaloo had some cool vintage clothing for us to look at! Unfortunately, we were late for the Breakfast & Champagne at Azzurro, but we did get to pick their brain about their vision on the trends for summer 2013; apparently, not much has changed so you can proudly wear your brigthly coloured prints & neon this summer. "The P.C." equals LVMH-Gucci-Pucci-madness. Will I ever be able to buy items here? Well, Dr Adams might not sound fancy compared to the Big Names, they do offer 20% extra discount this week! New shoes with 70% off! HA! Sorry joined bank account no.2, we're keeping it Dutch... Last stop: VLVT for the Panty Droppa, with Brown Hill, Roan & MC Shockwave. More bubbles, music, a little dancing, and we completely forgot about snow! Great day for the unicorn! We would definitely recommend the stores that offer discounts, as most of the stores have SALE anyway, it's a great way to expand your wardrobe for less! And if you want to buy new items... Just sayin'.  Snowy Sunday

Downtown 21.01: Let's Talk Business

"Monday Blues", the working life has begun again... YELP NEWS! The Amsterdam Fashion Week also has a Business Programme! And here I was, thinking it was 'just' Uptown and Downtown... There's a third party involved here ladies & gentlemen, and let me tell you: three is NOT a crowd... The Business Programme has several workshops, lectures and talkshows that take place during AFW throughout the city and are open for anyone to join. Aim? To connect fashion with commerce and entrepreneurs with aspiring students. So let's talk business of the past few days! 'Fashion bites' at MMousse sounded like combining my two favourite things in the whole wide world: eating & talking. And that on a Monday... A group of girls (for obvious reasons) gathered at the lovely venue, situated right behind the Nieuwmarkt. Maud, one of the founders of MMousse gave an inspiring speech about their vision, aims, and goals and I must say; pretty clever ladies. Most notably as they have a swing in their office (let out your 5-year-old you) and mix in Yoga classes at the office, to keep the bodies / mind / and soul happy. Speaker #2, Emilie Sobel -Fashiolista.com- was really captivating; a witty, open, honest girl, with great work ethic we'd like to add. As we Dutchies say, "niet lullen, maar poetsen". There's another 'fashion bites' this Friday, so if you're interested, drop by! Look at these amazing photos, made by Joey de Leeuw. The Business Programme events of AFW are very interesting for, well seriously everyone. It's about learning from each other, sharing experiences, sharing ideas & tips how to grow your business, meet people etc. And yes, it's related to the fashion industry (see Daring Designers for example), but we think that it can be useful for all the Amsterdam unicorns if you're open to learn. Just check it out! MMousse

Daring Designers

Off to the Piet Heinkade, Pakhuis de Zwijger! Oh yes, the Unicorn travels from left to right, up and down to report. The lecture 'Daring Designers' was all about informing students about being succesful (as in: make money) with your own fashion label. We thought Sjaak Hullekes was spot-on and we found his message striking; Dutch designers can have a somewhat misplaced arrogance and an attitude that turning your label profitable or more 'commercial' for a bigger audience, is not renouncing your principles or your own label. You have to think about 1) what's your own style and which 'big names' & fashion houses resembles that style. 2) Go to stores that sell that brand and look at the prices, if they sell garment in a particular price range, your items should aslo be in that price range otherwise it won't necessarily sell. Then you can calculate backwards and look at the options (hours of work put in + producers + fabric + accessoires) you can use, to fit that price range. And 3), Go abroad. The Netherlands is very small country, there's a limited group of people that are willing to spent €€€€ on their wardrobe and they don't always want to spend it on your garments. Designers are, needless to say, very artistic and creative but you need a concrete business approach in making your label profitable. GO Sjaak GO! And might we add, what a charming, endearing man he is! Truly lovely! Oh and we fell in love with the designs from Allan Vos! Theatrical, edgy, different, yet so wearable! Please, please, pretty Allan please, let us know when we can wear that amazing white-puffed-sleeved-blouse of yours. It's made for Unicorns... The photos of the Allan Vos designs (photos in the top left corner of the collage) are made by Team Peter Stigter, all rights & props to them!  Daring Designers

Thrilling Thursday!

Another day of Downtown pleasure mixed with a little bit of Uptown delight! Koko organized a fashion show; this amazingly cute shop is excellent for coffee, bananacake, and shopping for unique pieces from local designers... So naturally they needed to have a show during Fashion Week! A row of chairs was set from the back to the front (everyone sat 'front row' LOVED it), and the models / music / make up was impressive. While sipping on our Fiol, feeling fabulous, we almost forgot to run of to our first, official Uptown show! Wow, Fashion Violence: this is what we expected, and hoped for: Lots of extravagant outfits / shoes / accessoires / hairdos / everything! And the beauty of it, as I experienced, it doesn't really matter what you're wearing! We have to admit, we were a bit nervous... What do we wear? How are we going to blend in with the 'hip', fashion crowd? But let me tell you: we didn't feel pressured at all, as everything can look 'fashionable' and the crazier the better. So when you're going Uptown, dress as you like. Because you can! The show we watched was SIS, by Spijkers & Spijkers. We would describe it as: Preppy-Western-while-listening-to-Elvis... Yes, well, describing fashion shows isn't that easy we can tell you, however we think we're the right direction we think. Or click here to see for yourself :).

One of the BEST Downtown experiences we had -hands down- was the event organized by Kade 43: Unlock Your Personal Style. They had the lovely Andy playing the piano and singing, they had wine & snacks, and here it comes... Ladies, this one's for you: They had the 'colorist' Adinda in, who showed which colours are good for your complexion and which not. So, you sat in front of a mirror, she held up different shades and fabric next to your face and she explained which work and -also good to know - which didn't... Then you were sent off to the stylist Suuz Bisschops; she discussed your figure, forms and what really works for your body. Do we want to know ladies, Yes. We. Do. She dressed you with the different designers & clothing in the store, making you look fabulous. Third, you were sent off to the photographer to have exraordinary photos taken of yourself and let's be honest, we all want to have beautiful of ourselves. Seriously, what a brilliant event! We floated outside the store with regained knowledge; I need 'warm' tones, 50s dresses or anything that shows off the curves, and bright lipstick. No worries m'Kade43 dears, I am on it! The top 4 photos were made by the lovely Cristina Stolan! Thrilling Thursday

Juerga Animal @ Sargantana

All animals escaped from the fold, ran away from the farm and left the cages arriving in a non-stop race to the restaurant Sargantana, turned into a big jungle full of the most bizarre species of the natural world. Lizards, a “local” cow and its udders, zebras, tigers, snakes… even the Hootsuite bird, a fallero mussel and a dark bat, were waiting impatiently outside the monstrous charming venue, awaking the attention of every living being passing by on the street. What was being cooked inside the place made all creature instincts appear, as Gonzalo M said “a name and a Twitter nick was the only requirement to get through the doors and get all flashes on you from Fran’s camera, just as if you were in Hollywood itself”. The animal party was just ready to kick in Valencia!

  Collage3

It was clear that the fragrances from Juanra’s appetizers (Sargantana owner) made salivate to the last fly! Meanwhile, among skins and lianas, wild animal cavity stomachs were searching for reinvigorating liquids. Bodegas Vereda Real gifted the most curious palates with white, rosé and red amazing valencian “excellent” wines, as Samuel M could test, and made with fruits pulled out straight from our vineyards. We had the chance to learn from Jesús and Pedro’s knowledege all details in that process. Then Ana, from Los Bigudíes de Rubíes hairdresser shop, showed some of her products and offered a beauty service in its business as a prize to the winner of one of the night games! 5 stars in Yelp go to Paz Nm, who perfectly explained the games to all the guests with an enormous smile (the only thing not camouflaged in her dress). So, wines up cheep down, María P claimed that all Yelpers “met again and there were many, many new faces even testing the capacity of the place!

Collage4

But there still was a lot of way to trot during the night… Pan Creativo Artesano, with its owner Fernando, presented artisan lovely bread with amazing textures and mixtures such as squid ink, Pedro Ximénez flavour, spelt flour with linseeds and sunflower seed baguettes. We saw canines and tusks chewing with quite energy everywhere! Eventually, as a dessert Las Galletas de Marta, delicious and perfectly decorated with love and effort, lasted just a few minutes in most of the four-footed animal snouts. Don’t even mention that beasts are not sweet! Little by little, all those enjoyments started softening the evening while the musicians got ready to calm down the pride. Two wild cats (recently escaped) began the show miaowing for a while, and then Alameda choir tried, with their voices and piano, to make the herd enjoy the music of varied works. "It was a wise choice to make the singers appear among the guests!exclaimed María G

Collage6
All this savage madness didn’t stop for two hours, and we have to thank that to all our sponsors of the night: Sargantana, Pan Creativo Artesano, Bodegas Vereda Real, Los Bigudíes de Rubíes and Las Galletas de Marta. Also thank you to Alameda choir for the musical note, to Toni H for guarding the stable door with happiness and to María G for the wonderful design of the party’s poster, we’ll put it in a frame for the memory! And speaking about memories… we can’t say goodbye without thanking all the splendid work to the decorator and photographer of the night, Fran de Sousa. Don't miss his great pictures and Yelper’s reviews from the event!

Apparently, no animal seemed to escape without a big smile on its snout…

Going for Gold with a special Elite tasting at SeaLegs Wine Bar in Huntington Beach

Gold Elites new and old were spoiled silly this past Tuesday with a special four-course-tasting and wine pairing courtesy of SeaLegs Wine Bar in Huntington Beach.

GoldBadgers
During the two-hour event, the guests of honor were treated to charcuterie plates, bruschetta, flatbreads (shrimp and chorizo & pig and fig), sliders (bleu cheese, sausage and pulled pork) and an order of stinky fries to fill their bellies. Grace C loved the dessert finale saying "the carrot cake was probably the best thing of the night! They came out in little petite cupcake form with cream cheese frosting and they were SUPER moist and very tasty." We couldn't agree more.

FoodForThought
Though it might have been a repeat visit for some, first-timer Traci L states "I don't know why it took me going to a Yelp event to check out SeaLegs, but I know I will be back!"

LA West Elite's Get Raw At M.A.K.E

Raw food chef and author, Matthew Kenney was personally there to welcome over 50 Elites to his new restaurant M.A.K.E in Santa Monica. Located adjacent a state-of-the-art raw food culinary school, Kenney gave the Elites a tour of the facility and then sat them down for a tasting style dinner of organic raw food. No one knew raw food could be so gourmet, delicious and artistic.

This family style fête started with Muhumara, Sesame Tabouli, Za'atar Crackers. Organic and biodynamic wines were flowing and yelpers got to mix and mingle. Ej F declares, "This was one of the best humus dishes I've ever had!"

We moved into a Wild Arugala, Fuyu Persimmon, Pistachio. This was many Elites favorite dish of the night! Kelly B exclaims, "Wow. This stole the show for me, and I am not a fan of arugula at all. But the unique rich flavor of the persimmon with the salty pistachio cream was heaven."

California Kale, Blood Orange, Sun Dried Olives, Wild Dulse, Spice Almonds was light and refreshing. Market Lasagna, Zucchini, Macadamia, Santa Barbara Pistachio, Basil was such a hit. No one missed the cheese or the meat. Kelly B was thrilled, "Winner! The lasagna was fabulous! I didn't even notice the lack of pasta, and pasta is my favorite food. It was bursting with fresh flavors, and I adored the marinara sauce and the creamy nut cheese with it. Will come back for this alone!" The lasagna is their signature dish and now we know why!

The Nori roll was another hit shares Julie R, "It was by far my favorite dish of the night. They replaced the rice with grated jicama. How creative is that? Loved! So delish. I wanted more!"

Food at make

A few more dishes to finish the night off: Flatbread, Zucchini Hummus, Jewel Box Tomatoes, Fennel, Capers, Mint. Wild Mushroom Tacos, Mole, Almond Crema, Red Chili Avocado. And of course, we couldn't leave without dessert! Mini Chocolate Walnut Cake, Licorice Pear, Fennel, Sassafras. And a Passionfruit, Honey, Melon Sorbet, White Chocolate, Berries and Lemon Balm.

Jessica S describes the food at M.A.K.E perfectly: "I have one word to describe the food: exquisite. It's not a word I use often, but it's the best way to describe each of the dishes here.  I have eaten at other raw food restaurants, and they sometimes add so many ingredients to so many dishes, that it is a mish-mash of flavors, and everything ends up tasting the same. Each dish here was intentionally and masterfully created to make sure that flavors were able to shine through and compliment each other, in a way that made each dish unique.  Fantastic attention to detail, and very innovative. On top of that, each dish was artfully presented on large, white dishes that really showcase the vibrant color that you get when you keep your food raw.  Each course was like a modern art palette." See all reviews here!

Guests at make

Ej F sums up the evening, "I really appreciate the diversity of food I get exposed to at Yelp Elite events, thank you LA West Elite crew. I am a carnivore but I enjoyed raw food! Owner, chef and author Matthew Kenney was there and he invited us into the academy prep area where he teaches raw food classes to domestic and international students. He set the tone for a great event by describing his background and philosophy for the food he serves."

Until next time,

Keep it raw!

Vive la France! ...a Milano

Auriane3_original
Come?

-------

If you ever thought it was impossible to have France in the middle of Milan... well, it isn't! Yesterday night La Crêperie d'Auriane hosted the first Yelp Elite Event of the year. Between Kir and galettes, we had a terrific aperitivo! Our pictures and tips artists made their best in order to win two tickets for the Sound&Comfort Winter Festival and soon the winner will be cherished on our Forum! In the meantime, old and new Yelpers mixed cheerfully, lavishly eating what Auriane, Antonia and Andrea prepared for us. Ticks or treats? It doesn't matter, when you win the Best Revie Oscar of the month, like Piero V, or the trophy for the most nominated to the Oscars, like Vincenzo M (7 times!) or, last but not least, the cup for the most prolific writer Alex X (50 reviews in one day). Moreover... surprise, surprise: I announced my wedding with Fabiano R!

It's Vodka O'Clock @ Theory Vodka Lounge in Seattle

What's cooler than hosting an end of the year blowout bash in the ever-exclusive Theory Vodka Lounge? You guessed it - NOTHING! Decked out in their hippest holiday gear, Seattle's Elite Squad members piled into this ultra-hip bar as part of Seattle's biggest nightclub, The Social, and sampled a variety of lovely vodka-laced cocktails all night long

PicMonkey Collage1
PicMonkey Collage3
Representing a variety of premium flavored vodkas, Belvedere Vodka sponsored the event and combined with the creativity of the bar staff at Theory, guests were treated to three stunning samples of cocktails. And for when that pesky line got long no one was too shy to take a quick shot of Belvedere Intense! Other flavors offered throughout the night included: Lemon Tea, Pink Grapefruit, and Black Raspberry

PicMonkey Collage4
PicMonkey Collage5
With private booths, plenty of standing room, and dining areas surrounding the expansive vodka bar, guests could settle in comfortably to mix and mingle with fellow Yelp peeps. Holiday tunes helped to set the mood on this chilly night as each Elite yelper was gifted a brand spankin' new set of Yelp fingerless gloves. Among other treats were endless supplies of holiday candies, fun and funky 80's toys and treats, and best of all, delicious bites served straight from the kitchen of the bar. Samples of fresh food included: Meatballs with a cranberry relish, Salmon gravlox on toast with capers, pickled veggie canapes, sweet potato chips and some lovely seasoned popcorn.
PicMonkey Collage2
But with all of the candy, food and liquor, there needed to be some balance to the evening! Our friends at Neuro helped "light it up" by offering generous free samples of two of their most popular flavored beverages, Bliss and Passion. Both of these lovely lightly carbonated non-alcoholic options helped keep guests energized and hydrated throughout the event.PicMonkey Collage6PicMonkey Collage8Were you among the fortunate few to attend our end of the year Elite bash? Yelp Memphis Elites Are Ballin' With Berets!

Yelp Memphis Elites were transported to a Parisian wonderland last Monday night with the last Elite event of the year: Ballin' with Berets! Memphis yelpers mingled at LeCrepe du Vin sampling sweet and savory treats while sporting mustaches.

December Elite Collage

The yummy crepe place served up delicious and imaginative treats like raspberry beret crepes and poulet parfaits, while yelpers escaped the holiday madness and enjoyed the photo opportunities as the wine pairings flowed.

Irene R muses, "I mustache you a question. How could you go to this event and not enjoy yourself? The answer: you can't. What a great night of food, laughs, berets and mustaches. It was so much fun mingling with everyone else and just being plain silly."

Yelp Montreal's Holiday Hooplah - La Fête des Fêtes de Yelp!

On a snowy late December eve, lovelies of the Montreal Elite Squad gathered to sip Annie Patenaude’s dreamy Lune de Miel honeywine at the last of this year’s special Elite events. General 54 and neighbor Annex Vintage were the most charming and artistic of hosts for Yelp’s Holiday Hooplah, and with Mike O’Brien and the Monday Night Choir singing us off into the moonlight the New Year is bound to be harmonious.

Generalcollage1

The Preservation Society, and Mile End Favourite, Maestro Traiteur, put on a delectable spread of sweets and savouries, and with all the cozy going round Farin I declared this “Hands down one of the best Yelp events so far.”

Generalcollage2

Check out the adorable pictures thanks to our dashing Elite photographer for this event, Rowan U. And while we’re at it, a special shiny thanks to all the super Elites who have been stepping up to
help make our Montreal Yelp Community magic happen! Y’all are truly the best and we’re lucky little Community Managers to get to work in a town full of people as kind and cool as you.

Around eighty Yelpers came last Sunday to El Mentidero Café, in order to enjoy what Fer A describes as "a great venue in an incredible environment, with a unique proposal in Barrio de Las Letras", and from Ana S highlights "not only the decor", but also "the food, abundant and tasty". She has only good words for the salmorejo, something that Teresa A also loved very much, along with "the hummus, the astonishing green gazpacho and the fresh cheese and fruits skewers". Collage 5

Sebas A has always been more inclined to sweetness, so he prefers to talk about "the roscón de Reyes and the frozen yogurt" he was treated with. The first one came from the hand of La Sorianita, and the second came thanks to YOY, and was incredibly successful: after tasting their frozen yogurt Ángela R could not think about anything else but to visit them.Collage 1

But it's impossible not to talk also about the cocktail prepared with "spicy rum, ginger beer and lime" courtesy of The Kraken Rum through Global Premium Brands, which is set to be a highlight next time Juan D meets his friends. The cocktail also caught the attention of experienced Yelpers such as Jose Antonio P, who found it "quite surprising, specially the slightly spicy taste at the end". He was also surprised by the pictures shown in El Mentidero Café, a magnicent work by Alfonso Trancón. Collage 3

As always, I want to thank Yelpers and Elites to come and share a couple of hours with us, as well as thanking Mak, Quique, Rania, Elena, Sergio and Alberto from El Mentidero, La Sorianita, Joseph from Global Premium Brands, Íñigo and Patricia from YOY, Alfonso, Ana and Mario for their hard work and support. Without them, this event probably will not have happened. Do not forget to leave your review in the event page and take a look to the picture set on Flickr.

Yelp OTP's Movie Madness

We asked OTP yelpers on a dinner and a movie date. They flirted a little and finally said 'Yes!'

We gathered at the brand new Studio Movie Grill in Duluth and greeted warmly by Ed, Omar, Rayna, Chef and a large smiling staff. We started with appetizers in the beautiful bar lounge – but this was no popcorn and Skittles party, no siree! Our cocktail hour could battle a 5-star hotel as we were served ahi tuna on crunchy seaweed, California rolls, St. Louis BBQ ribs, salmon with cream cheese and kale on a potato chip, crab cakes, shrimp cocktail and mini peanut butter milk shakes, as well as signature SMG blue margaritas that were so sweet and smooth they blue our minds! The service was impressive, Brent H says it best: "All of the employees were tripping over themselves to make our event spectacular." Even the Chef served us apps!

Dec Elite Studio Movie Grill3

Elites and their guests each had the opportunity to win pairs of VIP passes for another visit back to Studio Movie Grill, or a gift bag of Yelp goodies in a raffle.

After cocktail hour, we moved into the theater to catch our elite-voted-on flick, Skyfall, in four rows of primo seats that were reserved just for us. Han L complimented, the "spacious theater is immaculate, being new and all. The leather?/pleather?/poly-vinyl?/non-canvas seats were very comfortable." Agreed! We perused menus for our complimentary entree, wine and dessert and when we had decided, we each had our own call button to request a server! Vivian W thought "eating in the dark was an adventure" but adds that luckily no one was injured in the process!

Dec Elite Studio Movie Grill1

When all was said and done, even those who battled a bit of traffic to get there thought the night was a success! Annie L assured, "Needless to say, we'll be back."

Denver Yelp's December Secret Supper at Twelve Restaurant

On the twelfth month of Secret Supper Clubs in the twelfth month of the year 2012, Denver yelpers were treated to an incredibly delicious three course meal at Twelve Restaurant. What better place, right?! At the start of the meal Tanteo Tequila showed up with their slow-burning jalapeño-infused tequila muddled into a cocktail with St. Germain, basil, and green chartruese. As Vicki P sipped on her slightly sweet and spicy cocktail she tried to take her time, but it was so fantastic she "definitely could have sucked it down and ordered another (or two)!"

Blog1
The star of the show, Chef Jeff Osaka, let the food speak for itself. And speak it did! The meal kicked off with a lovely combination of baby lettuces, shallots, fine herbs, parmesan, and banyuls vinaigrette that had the crowd quieting down to savor each bite. Next came the most perfectly cooked hangar steak Shaun S has possibly ever had, served alongside a yukon gold potato puree, crispy sweetbreads, and blue cheese slaw. Rounding out the meal was a Roasted Butternut Squash-Brioche Pain Perdue (that was no pain at all to Alissa R) served with cream cheese ice cream. And that's just the icing on the cake, so to speak. Make sure you check out the reviews and photos if you'd like to get the whole picture.

Blog2
And with that the Secret Suppers of 2012 come to a close. It has been a great adventure eating at a new place with you all each and every month. Have a safe and happy new year!

Rodolphe V a apprécié, il faut croire : "Très bel endroit + magnifiques pulls (Ugliest sweat for Alexandra D !)

Yelp tu me connais si bien #coeur# "

Yelp Calgary Gets Intimate And Interactive With Smashburger

When it comes to showing the Yelp Calgary Elite Squad exactly what you're made of, look no further than the folks at Smashburger. Thirty lucky Elites were invited to get up close and personal with Smashburger's first-ever location in Canada. And up close and personal we most certainly got!

Smashing 1
It was a "smashing good time" for Lisa P, and with reason! Upon entering the space, guests had their choice of any beverage off the menu... beer, soda, milkshake, whatever tickled their fancy. Our love of the milkshake was well represented!

Guests started with baskets of sides, deep-fried pickles, smashfries, sweet potato smashfries, veggie frites, poutine... it just kept coming! Dustin H was "damn near stuffed on sides before the burgers even began to roll out."

Smashing 2
But roll out they did. The Classic, Calgary (available only in... you guessed it, Calgary!), Mushroom Swiss, Spicy Baja, BBQ Bacon & Cheddar and Avocado Club kicked off the burger bites, followed by the Grilled Chicken, Spinach and Goat Cheese, Crispy Buffalo and even a taste of the black bean patty. Says Carrie P, "I am sorry Jenny Craig, but tonight, you went waaayyyyy out the window! The black bean burger I really liked. The guacamole was amazing and the burger was hot!  I love being told that something is spicy, and actually finding that it is, in fact, spicy!

Smashing 3
The fun didn't stop there, dessert consisted of a taste of Smashburger's chocolate milkshake and to burn off a few of the calories they had just consumed, Elites were invited into the kitchen to smash their very own burgers!

In the words of Linda C, "Most... friggin... awesome... Yelp... Elite... event... evaaar!"

Loving the event photos? A special shout out to our event photographer, Jodde M with YYCPhoto.ca!

For a play-by-play, check out the party reviews and all of the fabulous photos!

That's it for 2012 Elite parties here in Calgary folks. Want in next year? Nominate yourself for the 2013 Yelp Elite Squad. See you next year!

Buffalo Gets Icey Hot At Dolci

A festive atmosphere was had at Dolci for the Icey Hot Holiday Extravaganza! While munching out on tremendous snacks, deliciously iced Flying Bison craft beer and hot mulled cider wine, Buffalo Elites casually raised over $450 for Buffalo First, a non-profit whose mission it is to create a thriving economy in WNY. How did we do it? We tapped into the love and exultation of spirit that we felt as we celebrated our Yelp comraderie at one of the coolest and oldest Caffe's on the Elmwood Strip: Dolci.

Dolci_1

Ever wondered what a local Flying Bison Blizzard Rock based bacon gelato tastes like? For Steve W, it was the food highlight of the evening as he yawps out how well it paired with "the Flying Bison beer," and the "bread crostini topped with the caprese salad and pesto, and roasted red pepper hummus salad crostini." Smita C confesses that she's "never had such tasty hummus before" and that this experience "could totally make me addicted." All the while, Nicole H was introduced to Dolci as a "fantastic lunch spot," and "a great rendezvous for a date!" Who's the lucky guy?

Dolci_2

Carl from Chateau Buffalo served delicious Holiday Hop Mulled Cider Wine, which Coralie B exclaims was "so delicious and so festive," while Six-String-Circus provided the mood music for the night. Lucky Yelp Elites who checked in to the event went home with a gift from City Dining Cards that Bethany M swears is the "the best gift you could ever give a yelper."

Dolci_3

From the bottom of our gelato-filled hearts and tummies, thanks to Dolci, Chateau Buffalo, Flying Bison Brewing, City Dining Cards and the Six-String-Circus for coming together in support of Buffalo First and Yelp. And who could forget Rebecca D, our lovely photographer for the evening and all-around crafty intern!

Yelp's In-House and At Home @ The Silver Dollar

Louisville's Elite squad cozied up to comfort food and cocktails at their finest and celebrated our city during Yelp's In-House & At-Home @ The Silver Dollar. Yelpers new and old alike settled into this Bakersfield Sound inspired honky tonk, reimagined inside a historic firehouse in Louisville's Clifton neighborhood. As newly elited Amanda F put it,"I felt a real sense of camaraderie amongst longtime Yelpers since everyone was so friendly and welcoming."

Silver dollar1stcollage
How do you make Elites feel right at home? This is Kentucky...so bring on the bourbon and whiskey! Bartender Larry Rice lined up a mystery tasting flight for each of us and as we imbibed and described, he revealed these golden elixirs to be Jameson, Canadian Club and Old Weller. Which one was the bourbon and where did it come from? Lynn B knew it was Old Weller and her bourbon knowledge didn't stop there: she won the Yelp bourbon matching challenge too! Pairing up all ten bourbons with their home distilleries, she proved herself a bourbon connoisseur and won a gift set where the only challenge left is deciding whether to drink that Woodford Reserve neat or on the rocks...

2ndcollage
Everything from their savory arbol sauce (their version of Texas Pete) down to the ginger syrup in their cocktails and is made in-house and The Silver Dollar gave us the insider scoop with notes from Chef Jonathan Schwartz and a mixology demonstration from Bartender Susie Hoyt. We not only got to try the Guapo and their take on an Old Fasioned, but they also treated us to samples of menu favorites like chicken and waffles and chorizo corndogs with achiote mustard, yum! Raquelle Z's already envisioning "happily eating the empanadas which can be ordered in a vegetable or braised beef as her entire meal on a future visit."

3rdcollage
With such care put into their culinary creations, it's hard not to love Louisville and local restaurants like The Silver Dollar. And what do Louisvillians do when we wanna show off how cool our home city is? We put a fleur de lis on it! Who needs birds? Yelpers added Louisville's signature emblem to as many items as they could fit into their photo but Lynn, Terri, Claire and Jeremy won the contest with 14 in total!

4thcollage
Thanks again to Elites and guests for coming out to enjoy an awesome event and to Treavor Martin for the photography — check more photos on our Flickr page. Also, special thanks goes to everyone at The Silver Dollar who shared their expertise and kindness with all of us.

Until next time, SYOY!

Yelp Calgary Celebrates It's 2nd Burstday At Endeavor Art Gallery!

It's not every day we get to celebrate our 2nd Burstday. We took over Endeavor Art Gallery & Event Space for the occasion with delicious treats, good libations and a surprise performance or two from local authors and poets!

Burstday 1
Guests started off with the salted caramel, peanut butter and jelly (imagine a bite-sized version of your traditional PB&J sammy dunked in chocolatey goodness) and trio chocolates from Cococo Chocolatiers – The Chocolaterie Bernard Callebaut Company. We’ll take our cue from Lisa P, “I could seriously eat those every day.”

Burstday 2
When Yelpers weren’t tasting chocolates, they were drooling over the macarons from Ohh La La Patisserie. Julia M notes, “The chocolate/hazelnut and lemon macarons were so good. Sebastian was telling me they have about 45 different combinations and he is constantly creating new flavour combinations, I hear a black sesame macaron is in the works.”

From the “fluffy and light” bread to the meat “piled generously” and sauces “meticulously tested for perfection like some kind of science experiment,” Joel K just couldn’t say no to the sandwiches from Montagu’s Sandwich. “I probably spent more time drooling over the sandwiches at their table than anywhere else in the room.”

Burstday 4
What’s a burstday party without a little surprise? After we ate our weight in sweet and savoury flavours and filled up on drinks from our friends at Steamwhistle, two of Calgary’s prominent poets demonstrated their wordy wit. Catherine Cummings and David Eso voiced their magic with a reading from a short story and fortune telling from the Oracle of Calvin & Hobbes.

Local company, Night Envy was also on the scene showing off its one-of-a-kind illuminated clothing and accessories. They'll be part of the Make Fashion show in January.

A special thanks to Reginald T for taking our event photos! And what's a party without prizes? Thanks to each of our sponsors for putting up some sweet winnings and the ATCO Blue Flame Kitchen for its holiday gift basket and gift certificate for a lunch time cooking demo at its learning centre!

See you at the next one!

Collok.jpg

"Everyone might have had a mad night", thought more than one Yelper after discovering all the unsuspected accessories during our first Elite event in Valencia. But nobody should be blushed or embarrassed about it! No one seemed to be worried at all, and every single brave Yelper enjoyed the time playing around curlers and brushes in a young and modern hairdresser shop located in the heart of Ruzafa neighborhood. Disorder was conspicuous not only by its light and splendid decoration, but also because of its purest vintage style. And that is how this pretty local hairdresser’s became, for two hours, the scene of all our Yelpers lunacies. Besides, if you were looking forward to 'disordering' your look, Rosa G strongly recommended stopping by, because "the two owners give you advise about your hair while you are enjoying a cup of coffee on the couch".

Collage4.jpg

As expected, there were many hairdryers around, as well as delicious snacks waiting on the tables. Yelpers were treated with splendorous tapas from a local and Mediterranean business, La Reina Restaurant, consisting on fantastic foie and salmon that just made everybody’s hair stand on end. To go with these delicacies, Bodegas Aranleón presented red and white wine, both of them full of personality and elaborated with the fruits of our land vineyards, just as Valencians like! Such colours and intensities were so "essential in order to complete the palette of flavours of the night", as Ana S stated.

Collageeng1.jpg

The girls from My Little Republic put the cherry on the top very carefully, preparing the nicest sweet corner ever, all in pink and sugar, and apparently brought from a fairy tale. They worked so hard that at the beginning, Yelpers as Manolo L felt quite sorry eating those precious “sickly sweet cupcakes". But trying new things is one of their hobbies, so they couldn’t resist filling their bodies with such a top-quality glucose… obviously to the rhythm of DJ’s Juanvi music.

Collageeng2.jpg

Many thanks again to all of the sponsors that helped us in the party: Disorder, La Reina Restaurant, Bodegas Aranleón and My Little Republic; Dj Juanvi, who made people dance and enjoy the music, the photographer Fran de Sousa for capturing the magic of the evening in pictures (which you can see here), Tito for being such a great assistant and Juanjo for guarding the main door with a smile. Do you want to know more? Check the reviews and write your own here.

Don’t let the party stop!

Denver Yelp's First Bite at Patxi's Pizza

On Sunday evening, Denver yelpers were invited to a pre-opening party at Patxi's Pizza (said like pah-cheese!) for the Yelp's First Bite Elite Event! Hailing from the Bay Area, this is the first location outside of California and Denver yelpers couldn't be more excited that Patxi's has graced our fair city with this 'za. Upon arriving, guests were greeted with schwag bags including water bottles, to-go menus, and gift cards for a return visit. After picking up this little fun pack they sauntered over to the bar to grab either a vodka cocktail or Odell's 5 Barrel Ale.

Blog1
Throughout the evening yelpers were able to taste a wide variety of items from appetizers to salads, and of course the pizzas! Deep dish, thin crust, even gluten free pies were on hand, and then in tummies as the night went on. In fact, so much food was on hand that every single yelper left stuffed and promising to return. As Tiffany "Not The CM" N put it: "It's more than 24 hours later and I'm still full! #winning"

Blog2
Be sure to check out the rest of the reviews for more details and the photos of the evening. And don't forget to check in on your Yelp app or like their Facebook page to enjoy some fun social media special offers. Until next time friends, I'll SYOY (See You On Yelp)!
