Vancouver's Fun and Games at Colony Kits!

Posted by Ayla Collins

BlogLast Monday, Elites enjoyed fun and games at Colony Bar’s Kitsilano location; the hip and inviting space was the perfect location to nosh on sliders, Yorkshire pudding, and delicious flatbread, while making new friends. As they enjoyed their snacks Elites were able to use their brand new Yelp Slap Koozies on the fantastic beer and cider provided by Whistler Brewing and Lonetree Cider, or simply sip on house wine and highballs. Post noms, Elites teamed up for a riotous round of trivia with the help of IQ 2000; competition was fierce and prizes were coveted! Colony Bar provided the perfect atmosphere for Elites to get to know one another and bond over a shared love of food, fantastic company, and some good old-fashioned competition. Edmonton Elite's Bond Affair

Posted by Jennie

BondBlog

For the final Yelp Elite Event of 2015, Edmonton Elites were treated to a fabulous night of food, drinks, and the new James Bond film, Spectre, at Yelp’s Bond Affair! The evening started at Lazia Restaurant in City Centre Mall. Elites dressed up in Secret Agent (or Super Villain) style and enjoyed sick Bond beats from Lazia's resident DJ and lively conversation. Lazia had a myriad of different appetizers, tapas and small plates to try - from Moroccan lamb meatballs, lobster shooters, polenta fritters, Korean shrimp salad, salmon lollipops, mini chicken drumsticks, and even roast beef canapé with Gorgonzola crème fraiche. The fabulous Leila Zuniga from Lifford Wine was sampling a Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon from Chocalan Wines. As well, James Bond’s favourite drink; the gin martini - but with a grapefruit twist, was being shaken, not stirred by Jordan Lee, with Ungava Premium Canadian Gin. After mixing and mingling among the 007 Balloons, and getting pics with Grey Cup champion Matt O'Donnell and the iconic Grey Cup itself, Yelpers headed to the Landmark Cinema to see a screening of the movie Spectre and finish off 2015 in high style.

On a rainy Sunday morning Central Social Hall treated Yelp Edmonton Elites to a tasty brunch complete with a book exchange! After arriving at the event Yelpers could drop off the book they brought for the swap, do some socializing and even check out the Jays game on the huge big screen TVs. There was plenty of Yelp SWAG on hand, and the men in attendance were treated to locally made soap from Bro Brick Soap, in scents like beer and wasabi, rye and coke and leather scrub. Chef Rueben Major flew in from Vancouver to prepare the meal for this amazing brunch which got off to a cheery start with a pineapple mimosa. Then Yelpers got to taste an Italian sausage and mushroom skillet with Central Social Hall’s signature roasted poblano and white cheddar sauce. Next was a house-made Belgian waffles with peach compote and chantilly cream. A blonde beer from Vancouver craft brewery Postmark Brewing was the "intermission" beverage. Then it was onto Eggs Benedict where Yelpers sampled either the Oil Country Benny with Italian sausage and bacon, or a Veggie Benny on a chickpea and mushroom patty. Finally came The Cure, named for being the perfect “morning after” meal, this was a breakfast version of poutine with shoestring fries, cheese curds, red wine gravy, and poached egg, and more of the delicious smoked poblano and white cheddar sauce. Yelpers then got to pick up a book for the book swap, and enjoy some great company before heading out.

Last month, Yelp Dallas welcomed the summer season in a major way by inviting the entire city to an all-white affair aimed at celebrating top local businesses. Summer Solstice was three levels of craft beer, fresh cocktails, delectable eats, tarot readings, hair braiding, face paint, caricatures and henna tattoos held at the gorgeous 2616 Commerce Event Center in Deep Ellum. Dallas' DJ Sober filled the air with jams while folks enjoyed a breathtaking view of the downtown Dallas skyline. Best of all, 100% of our suggested door donations ($4K) went directly to the Pinky Swear Foundation in Dallas, TX: an organization aimed at assisting families dealing with childhood cancer. YelpProv

Edmonton Elites kicked off 2015 at the Provincial Pub for Yelp Gets Provincial. The Provincial was decked out in a provincial theme, including stunning floral arrangements from Kulhmann's Greenhouse. Yelpers went head to head in a trivia game of the Canadian provinces in order to win some fabulous Yelp prizes and SWAG. Titos Vodka was on hand crafting two creative signature cocktails; the Texas Sipper, and the Pocket 4. Big Rock Brewery had Cascadia, Traditional Ale and Wheat Ale on tap. Throughout the evening Yelpers enjoyed 6 courses of delicious food including smoked salmon with vodka cream on a rye crostini, bruschetta with heirloom tomatoes on flatbread, rosemary hummus with homemade tortilla chips, and a lemon curd. To finish off the evening Edmonton's very own CM handed out the 2014 Yelpie Awards to a handful of truly fantastic Edmonton Yelpers. Thanks to all of our sponsors, and to everyone who came out to make this evening a success. Read reviews for the event Here. And view the photos Here.

Jolly January In Vancouver

We kicked off the new year with an intimate party at Danica's Cafe - a family owned space complete with photos of their Grandma's farm, one of the first organic farms in Alberta. And yes, Grandma's name is Danica! These generous folks provided tons of delicious food including mini shepherd's pies, and gluten free goodies, and even raffled off a whole chocolate pecan pie! Wine was flowing freely, along with delicious Gypsy Tears Ale provided by Parallel 49 Brewing! Danica's staff whipped up some delicious teas and coffees as Elites enjoyed awesome music provided by DJ Leanne of GirlOnWax. Thanks to Linday of Lindsaysdiet for her incredible photos, and thanks to Danica's for spoiling us all so thoroughly! Check out the photos and reviews of this great event!

Maritime Madness In Calgary

Posted by Dale E.

Maritime Madness-header

Calgary Yelp Elites took over Billingsgate MKT for a party so fresh you could eat it raw. "Homestyle" reached new levels as Elites feasted on Great Grandad's fish 'n' chips and Great Grandma's clam chowder, courtesty of this family owned and operated (since 1907) fish market.  Jameson Irish Whiskey, Village Brewery beer and loud, live music turned this fishy feast into full-on maritime madness. If a party could drunkenly hug you, this one would. Read all the rauckus reviews and reel-in the fabulous photos on the Flickr page.

The new permanent location for Luke's General Store is a two level, super cool space with amazing art, clothes, food, soaps, and vinyl - there's something for everyone in this eclectic, fun store! On a not-so-cold December night over 60 Yelpers gathered to do some last minute shopping, fueled by a great spread of local cheese, bread, olive oil, meats, doughnuts, and pickles. To quench their thirst we had spiked mulled cider, local beer, and coffee! The guys from Beast and Brine were on hand to explain their incredible spread, and the Club Mate reps in Vancouver made sure everyone got to sample their delicious energy drink. Elites and their plus ones had a blast, and the atmosphere was humming! Buy a meal at a great local restaurant and you'll buy a meal for someone at the Calgary Drop-In Centre - that's the simple philosophy behind Mealshare. This holiday season, Calgary Yelp Elites got a chance to participate in both sides of the Mealshare story by volunteering their time serving up meals at the Calgary Drop-In Centre, and then sampling the new menu items at Mealshare partner restaurant - Oak Tree Tavern. With delicious food, a special cask Last Best Brewing beer, live holiday music, cookie decorating and a surprise visit from Santa, complete with stockings filled with local goodies, Yelp's Dining Out & Helping out was one holly jolly evening.
