Yelp's Memorial Day Wild Ocean Seafood Party!

Posted by Andi

Wild ocean final.jpg

Orlando's Elite Yelpers celebrated their long weekend with a road trip to Titusville's Wild Ocean Seafood Market! The fourth generation family-owned market filled the Elites' bellies full of fabulous wild-caught seafood while teaching them how to dress a fish (apparently mixing prints is a big no-no this season), how to tell how fresh a fish is, and finishing with a quick course in shrimp. But the Wild Ocean family had more up their sleeves, offering the Elites some enviable libations care of Florida's craft beer connoisseurs, Progressive Distribution. Check out what the Elites had to say about the event here and take a peek at the photos here!

Yelp Loves New Businesses: Salt & Toad In The Hole

Posted by Heli M.

Nearly 200 Elites were invited to experience two hot new (and very different) neighboring businesses all in one night! Toad In The Hole, an English-style pub and grub, offered an array of activities including games of pool and other billiards while Songbird Jones, wooed us with his soothing voice and the sweet sounds of his acoustic guitar. Outside at Salt, an upscale poolside lounge, there was a whole other party going on! Some Elites took a dip while others sipped on Belvedere and Moet and jammed out to DJ Charlie Phresh's playlist. Missed out on all the fun? Shots By Shab, our photographer for the evening, covered it all. Check out the official photos on Flickr. And while you're at it, read up on the Yelp reviews!

Yelp Omaha Smashes Some Smashburgers

Posted by Will

On National Burger Day — May 28, 2014 — Omaha Elites were treated to a seven course sampling of the menu at the Smashburger located at 72nd and Jones streets. Smashburger's Lonny C. was on hand to explain each course in depth, revealing that there's a whole lot more than just beefy goodness to the menu. Speaking of the menu, Omaha's Yelp Elite Squad also learned that there are a select few secret items that all Smashburgers will make, so long as you're in the know. The evening wrapped up with a demonstration in the kitchen on how Smashburger staff literally smashes every single burger, each made to order using fresh ingredients. A big thanks to Smashburger for hosting such a great event — especially for all the hard work from Lonny, manager Sarah S. and her staff. Want proof that everyone had a good time? Check out the reviews and photos from the event.

Burger Day In Sacramento, Smashburger Style

Posted by Alex L

O.jpgA smashing good time was had by all as Sacramento's Elites celebrated National Burger Day on Wednesday at Smashburger in Elk Grove, where they spoiled us with tastings of seven burgers, multiple sides, five shake samples and free beer off their eclectic menu! The burgers included everything from their classic Smashburger to an avocado club chicken to a black bean burger to a uniquely local option. Yelpers sat in rapt attention as our hosts explained their dedication to quality ingredients and customer service. They even took small groups in the kitchen to "smash" their own burgers in their signature style! Judging from the reviews and the photos, it's safe to say many folks will be back for more!

On Wednesday, smack in the middle of Burger Binge Week, Atlanta Elites made their way through a menagerie of burgers courtesy of SmashBurger in Sandy Springs. The menu packed tons of mainstays and included a local creation with some Atlanta-specific ingrediens and flavors. To top off the evening, Elites had a chance to smash a burger of their own on the grill and walk away with the latest in Elite Schwag - The Yelp Elite Towel. Squared Elite Event in Madrid!

Posted by Lolo R.

Last Tuesday, twenty members of the Yelp Madrid Elite Squad had the privilege to attend one mysterious event they knew nothing about. At the door of El Afilador, a tasteful shop full of vintage furniture they were prompted to choose a color: blue or green? Elites were divided then in two groups: the ones who chosen green had the opportunity to taste wine at the same time they were learning how to create beautiful flower arrangements. The ones who chosen blue went to the shop’s workshop, where they had the opportunity to enjoy a blind test driven by Coto Pelayo while learning how to renovate a beautiful wood box. Want to check by yourself if the Elites were creative enough? Then don’t hesitate to take a look to the reviews of the event and take a look to the pictures!

Northside Tales With Hidden Dublin Walks

Posted by Emily C

O (45).jpg

"Quicker than the lustiest man" was Scaldbrother, the infamous medieval thief whose buried treasure may still lie in a labyrinth of tunnels under Smithfield.

A group of Elite Dublin Yelpers were guided through the streets of their own northside by 'Hidden Dublin Walks', telling little known tales and fables as they went. If you think you know it all about Baile Atha Cliath, think again. From the tales about the former graveyard nearby Jervis Street to Henrick St, Dublin's most haunted street; guide Aidan punctuated the tour with humour, wit, a dollop of sarcasm, and some really intriguing information!

"It's the end of the tour and maybe you find you're missing something that you had in your pocket... Was that Scaldbrother, I wonder? You're always welcome to try and retrieve what you lost, if you dare go look for the lost catacombs under the city, filled with treasures... and probably even more ghosts..."  Read more about the 'one of the best tours in Dublin' from Catarina L here.

On Sunday, in the midst of a gorgeous holiday weekend, Yelp Hartford Elites ventured to Granby for an afternoon of sweet treats at Grass Roots Creamery. Guests were blown away by the lovely family-run ice cream shop brimming with dozens of inventive flavors boasting natural, organic ingredients. From honey lavender to salted caramel bacon brittle, the decadent flavors even included three Yelper-submitted combinations (candied ginger, maple bacon and coffee caramel chocolate chip)! ¡Ándale! Yelpachanga in Mexico City Mixes Mezcal and Chapulines

Posted by Mario M

On Tuesday night, Yelp Mexico City rolled out the red carpet to introduce the first Community Manager for Mexico, Mario M. The festivities took place at Yuban Roma, a rustically cool Oaxacan eatery, where about 90 guests (including Elites, influencers and friends) got to gab, taste typical Zapotec dishes (grasshopper tacos amongst other things) and toast to the success and future of Yelp Mexico City. Spirits were high as yelpers enjoyed Bohemia BeerMezcal Union and mezcal-infused ice cream from Paletería Nevado. For those who missed it, you can check the reviews here, and scope out the photos here. Yelp's Party Like A Rock Star

Posted by Angela S

Pick Collage Blog

It all started with a red carpet rollout, then Yelp North Shore showed 200+ Yelpers how to Party Like A Rock Star at 27 Live in Evanston for the first community Yelper party. Elites and their guests gained early access to the entire venue, and the night got underway with live music commemorating the 27 Club musicians and themed food and drinks, like Purple Haze and Me & Bobby Mac 'N Cheese bites. Upstairs guests got their groove on with henna tattoos and lounged in VIP guest suites housing a fine art show, 'Welcome to Nirvana' room with Pop Rocks and candles, and the 'Be Your Best Selfie' photo lounge filled with musical instruments and hippy chic rock clothes and a lighted dressing table with piles of red wax lips. The Whiskey Lounge, with a speakeasy vibe, welcomed guests with playing cards and chocolate poker money. We also raised approximately $700 for Make-A-Wish® Illinois. Board Meat-ings Are Better In Madison

When was the last time you sat through a meeting and thought, "Man... this is truly a blast... I'm having too much fun!" Let's face it, probably never. But your agenda probably never featured Oysters Rockefeller, Cheese Curds, Bacon Bleu Cheeseburgers, Smoked Meunster Burgers, Salmon Sandwiches and Iceberg Wedge Salads. Oh, and Old Fashioneds and Wisconsin beer might also up the fun factor. Bob Hemauer and the entire team at Tornado Steak House taught Madison Elites just how magnificent board meetings can be when you dim the lights, serve incredibly prepared food, and give folks spirited ways to wash everything down. Those not in  attendance, familiarize yourself with the minutes and look over the photos!

Yelp's Passport to Old Seaport Kick Off Party at The Paris Cafe

The mission of Yelp's Passport to the Old Seaport is easy: take the pledge to spend some cash at the many great businesses that make up one of New York City's oldest and most whimsical neighborhoods. It's not exactly top of mind any longer, but businesses in the Old Seaport neighborhood of Lower Manhattan are still building back from Super Storm Sandy. Many of these small business owners have toughed it out for almost two years and ripped through all of their personal savings to keep their dreams alive... and as New Yorkers we owe it to these hard working local businesses to help stimulate the micro-hood with our wallets.

To kick off the week in style, we hooked up with The Paris Cafe for a night of great drinks, awesome foodstuffs, and a little history lesson along the East River! Oh... and we even made an appearance on Fox 5 news to trumpet the message to all 5 of our boroughs.

Fiesta Élite - #GarbanzoYelp @ Garbanzo Negro (Sevilla)

Posted by Txema

Yelp's On Tap in Albuquerque!

Posted by Howie

On Thursday, Yelp Albuquerque officially stamped the city with Yelp's first true brew, Ol' Yelper, a red ale with hints of hops and rye, at Bistronomy B2B. The Yelp Elite community attended in droves to sip a pint from a limited edition pint glass and support the local brewing scene and a great nonprofit, the New Mexico Water Collaborative (who received proceeds from the first glass). Brewmasters Kayal Baxter and Gary Long introduced the pour and took everyone on a tour behind-the-scenes. A safe-ride was provided via Uber, a great partner for the evening. Reviews are still coming in, but the sentiment was true: it's good to be On Tap in ABQ. Check out the beer on Untapped

On May 22nd, hundreds of DFW locals kicked off Memorial Day Weekend by celebrating Yelp Fort Worth at its biggest event yet – Yelp's Secret Garden. From tamales, curry, ice-cream, jerky, hummus, pickles, and grilled macaroni to local beer, vodka, whiskey, coffee liqueur, cider, wine, and gin – there was something incredible around every corner. Yelpers experienced phenomenal face-painting, a brilliant DJ, fortune telling, live kora playing, and watched a deception specialist that left them questioning their sanity! The new Bio c' Bon store opened up for the first time to a special Yelp Elite Squad, ready for a full set of delicious tastings, because bio means not only an eye to ecology, but great flavour as well! Between a sip of artisanal beer and a bite of mozzarella, Yelpers had the chance of chatting with Federica, naturopath and herbalism expert, and got to know better Emna, who runs the shop. Taking pictures was a great occasion to take part in a photo challenge as well, as the best pic, from Marco V, won two tickets for the following Zelig Cabaret show, with a first row table and free prosecco. Yelp's Brazilian Night!

Posted by Blue Arauz

Bom Dia! Last week members of the Yelp Elite Squad had the oppertunity to sample meats, drink caipirinhas and make some new friends at Texas De Brazil in Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach Gardens. Before the event, guests were asked to send in one fun fact about themselves - the day of the event you were given a fact at random and had to find your match. We have some amazing folks in the BPB and some of the highlights were: a professional magician, a passanger on a hijacked plane, a contestant on Wheel Of Fortune and even a professional flute player! While Elites mingled the professional bartender put on a caipirinha demonstration and kept the libations coming all night. Samples of garlic sirloin, chicken breast wrapped in bacon and Brazilian sausage were served along with goat cheese and orange marmalade crostini, shrimp and avocado mousse crostini, caprese skewers. Manhattan's Ditch Day Atop the DL Rooftop

Memorial Day weekend is right around the corner, so why not usher in the three day weekend with something more like a 3.5 day weekend? Upwards of 100 Manhattan Elites burned a sick day yesterday, trading in TPS reports for white peach margaritas atop the roof at The DL. If you've yet to mosey into The DL, the third floor is the crown jewel of the whole building. With a spacious room, retractable roof, and outdoor patio... it's a one of a kind experience that transports you away from the streets and offers an entirely new perspective of the Lower East Side. The night started with a special check-in offer to receive Chinese Mini Wafers, followed by a Chopstick Challenge that gave one lucky and skillful chopstick-using Elite, Levinia T, first dibs on the Yelp Elite beach towels and then a wonderful sampling on some of the best dishes that award-winning chef, Peter Chang, has to offer.

Yelp Melbourne goes Bánh-anas

Posted by Melanie

The walls of Paperboy Kitchen read “Super Tasty Vietnamese Food”, which is exactly what Melbourne’s Yelp Elite Squad was greeted with in absolute abundance on Thursday night.

The crowd was delighted with mouth wateringly good bánh mì, rice bowls, fried chicken and spiced popcorn - stopping only to play with the plastic animals that adorn this fun new CBD lunch spot.

Pretzel Calzones, Dapper DJ's And A Treasure Hunt In A Historic Grain Mill

Posted by Mike Bishop

Yelp Elites took a trip to downtown Frederick to check out one of its coolest antique stores in its city limits during Yelp's Treasure Hunt At Cannon Hill Place Antiques. During the first hour, Elites toured the store with signature bites from downtown Frederick business Pretzel and Pizza Creations which supplied pretzel calzones and sinful bacon and chocolate pretzel bites. During the second hour, Elites took a short tour of the historic building while Community Manager Mike B hid specially marked antiques. At the end of the tour, the hunt was on, and the antiques were finders keepers.  All this crazy historic fun happened while listening to an appropriate antique soundtrack played by the Dapper DJ's on early 20th century picnic Victrola's.  Read all the reviews and check out all the fun photos here

Yelp Shows Off Its Red, White and Blue Colors In San Pedro

Posted by Ryan C.

Patriotic Party

San Pedro was a yelpy destination on Sunday as Yelp’s Patriotic Party took over the Battleship Iowa. Starting with an up close and personal tour of this historic monument, attendees got to take a self-guided adventure through the vessel where they had the opportunity to mingle with its veteran docents who had close ties with the ship. Once the learning was over, the festivities began with an afternoon of sips, sampling, live music, art and other activities where the generous efforts of the community brought in over $6,500 in donations that will go towards future restorations of the ship. Read the yelpers' log by perusing the reviews or see photo documentation of the fun by flipping through the Flickr, I Heart Momo and Drunken Pixel galleries and watch a cool aerial video of the action courtesy of Louie B!

Oklahoma City's Revel Eight Retreat

Posted by Julie P

Oklahoma City’s Elites were treated to a delightful evening at Revel Eight Salon and Spa. They received chair massages and hand treatments, and ladies could pick from a braid bar, hair chalking, bang trims and up-styles. The guys weren’t left out either: they could opt for neck, beard and side burn cleanups. Fourteen stylists took good care of our Elites, while they sipped beverages by Prairie Wolf + Strong Tonic, Black Mesa Brewing and wines from Premium Brands. Packard’s New American Kitchen, located right next door provided a perfect menu which included gazpacho, fresh salad, chorizo meatballs and berry tartlets with lavender cream. A schwag bag full of goodies rounded out the evening. Be sure to check out the reviews and the Flickr album.
