Madison's Nursery Rhyme Time

Jack & Jill went up a hill, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall and on a rainy Sunday Madison Elites  enjoyed a taste of the Emerson neighborhood. And while they were there, they figured out why Evan and Mandy have one of the best kept secrets on Madison's east side, 4&20 Bakery & Cafe, named after a beloved children's nursery rhyme. Nutella Pop Tarts, mango lemonade, berry ricotta muffins and a savory scone which sandwiched Italian coppa was far from kiddie food, but the relaxed atmosphere and personal attention Evan gave to the group, was reminiscent of easier times. Back when when cows jumped over the moon, girls sat on tuffets, boys jumped over candlesticks... Read the reviews for more of the story!

Yelp Celebrates Local WNY Farmers At The Lodge

This past Saturday, the community came together to celebrate our most beloved food producers at The Lodge --- a gorgeous two-story restaurant and bar. Chef Todd Lesakowski and his staff used ingredients provided by T-Meadow, Plato Dale, Dan Tower and Native Offerings Farm along with oyster mushrooms from Boston Valley Gourmet to concoct creative tasting dishes for almost 300 guests. The Mountain Run joined us for a killer set of bluegrass (which included a bluegrass cover of Radiohead’s High and Dry) as guests enjoyed and sipped samples of Lockhouse Distillery Vodka and Brooklyn Brewery beer. Yelp Rings In Calexico LES' 1 Year Anniversary!

The story of Calexico goes something like this: when two brothers and their best friend from California moved to New York City, they were blown away by the variety and quality of the food the city had to offer (it's true, y'all - there are a lot of delicious things to eat here). But no matter where they looked, they couldn’t find anything that could satisfy their craving for hometown Southern Californian cuisine. So they began cooking - first for theirselves, then for their friends. With family roots in the Mexican city of Calexico itself, it was a natural inspiration for what would become one of New York City's finest Mexican food destinations. Now from winning a Vendy award for their taco cart efforts to making cameos in magazines, newspapers, TV shows, and thrving in their first year on Rivington... it's clear theres no stopping this delicoius freight train that is Calexico. To relive the action of last night's 1 year anniversary party, check out pictures here and reviews here.

Drinks, Derby Hats, And Diamonds In Louisville

Kentucky Derby parties are about as plentiful in Louisville during this time of year as horse race predictions, but the Louisville Yelp Elite Squad took part in a Derby party of a different kind — a party dripping in diamonds. Shane Co. opened its doors to the squad and guests last week, and along with getting the chance to try on everything in the store, the roughly 75 party-goers noshed on bourbon balls and cookies, tried on Derby hats and ties and sipped on three different types of mint juleps. They also got to have their photos taken next to a cut-out Tom Shane, and a handful even took home some sizeable giftcards and baskets from the sponsors. Yelpers Roll A Fatty (Burrito) at Dos Toros

What happens when the best of San Francisco comfort food collides with the best city in the United States of America? Easy - you get Dos Toros Taqueria. Modeled after the classic Mission style burrito of San Francisco (specifically, Gordo Taqueria), Dos Toros filled a culinary void in 2009 when their first outpost launched on 4th Avenue in Union Square. Now some 5+ years later, they've expanded to three additional locations including this here location in West Village where 60+ Yelpers tried their hand at rolling their own burritos this past Sunday afternoon. Dos Toros is serious about sustainability (it's better for the food, better for you, better for us, and better for the planet)... and who knew the art of rolling said perfect burrito was so complex? There's some serious technique needed to roll one of these bad boys, and co-founder Oliver gave a hands on tutorial on the steps needed to roll an authentic Dos Toros burrito. To see how the lecture turned out, click here to check out photos and click here for reviews of the event.

On a Friday night in April, the Yelp Elite Squad in Zürich for once experienced a totally different Yelp Elite Event. It's a Manhattan Tea Party @ Press Tea

Press tea.jpg

You ever wondered what innovation looks like? Well, even the culturally blind can tell there's a paradigm shift happening at Press Tea in the Village. Their revolutionary Press Tea Method ensures the greatest possible experience by combining the techniques of espresso making with gourmet tea. In lieu of steeping tea bags or brewing with loose leaves, Press Tea uses a unique press system that compresses their finely ground leaves into espresso-like shots. This ‘tea-spresso’ approach maximizes the flavor of their teas, adding a velvety finish and rich colors to their already innovative blends. Adding to a one of a kind tea experience, they take a similarly unique approach to their foodstuffs by way of the world's first ramenrrito (as you might guess - it's a ramen burrito), jasmine green tea infused cookies (they infuse green tea in the butter used to bake the cookies), and soon to be the go to stop for paleo bakery treats. If Press Tea isn't already on your radar, you need to change your mindset stat! Check out reviews and pictures of the event here

Posted by peter d.

The most delicious of tasty Thai treats (Qi Thai Grill does it up, and not just with bugs!). The most refreshing of beer (Singha FTW!). The most fun yelpers in NYC. The most harrowing of water gun wars. This Songkran celebration had it all. With some of Brooklyn's finest yelpers sampling some of Chef Pichet Ong and Qi Thai Grill's best bites including crispy quail egg dumplings, spicy basil beef noodles and Ovaltine pork ribs, this already would've been an evening to remember. Throw in some of the most exquisite insects you've ever eaten, traditional Thai New Year fun (like water guns), and cold Singha Beer to wash it all down? You've got one of the best Brooklyn Elite events we could've asked for. Read all the reviews of the event here and see all the fabulous photos on the Flickr page.

From puppy pampering stations and doggy cupcakes, to an artist doing sketches of the pets, food and an art education, it was a VIP event for both the dogs and their owners! Check out the entertaining reviews here and Flickr photos here.

Olive Garden Orlando Yelp Elite Event.jpg

On Tuesday night, 30 lucky Elite Yelpers got the opportunity to tour the Darden Headquarters and get their hands 'doughy' in the Olive Garden Test Kitchens. Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida was on hand to tell the Yelp Elites about the 75 million pounds of food that Darden has donated as a part of the Darden Harvest program and the Elites generously donated $310 for Second Harvest (which, in food bank math, equals $2,790 worth of groceries!). The Chefs rewarded the Orlando Elites for their generosity and hard work with an 11-course tasting of the Olive Garden's new and improved menu! Read all of the reviews of the event here and see all of the fabulous photos on the Flickr page.

Reno's Yelp Elites Feast in the Far East

Posted by Michael T

Gambe! That's cheers in Chinese, and there was a lot of that going on at Yelp Reno's Far East Feast Elite Event on Thursday night at 168 Chinese and Sushi! Yelp Elites were treated to an array of 10 authentic Chinese dishes representing Sichuan, Canton, Beijing, and Shanghinese cuisines, paired up with Tsingtao beer! Owners Tony and Ellen, and Chef Lee, shared great information about each region explored, and explained the skill and techniques used to create the subtle flavors, complex textures, and visually stunning presentations. Favorites included jellyfish salad, Sichuan pork belly, and Shanghai prawns. The night ended with a Yelp Take-out container filled with all sorts of Chinese goodies from 168 Market, lots of Xie Xies (that's Thank You in Chinese) and reservations that left 168's next regional Chinese dinner half full!
