Spreading the word and taking the pledge to shop local was a delight, even on a cold night, for Yelp's first Shop Local Crawl in Albuquerque. On the 10th, a crowd gathered at Stranger Factory to grab shopping lists and bags and drop a donation to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of New Mexico, and then it was off to Nob Hill.
For two hours, Yelpers and friends had more than 40 businesses to choose from offering drinks, discounts, treats and other delights. Accessories, galleries, cafes, boutiques, stylists, children's clothes, shoes, desserts. There was so much to see, smell, taste, and gift.
So many shops, suddenly so little time. The two hours of holiday fun actually felt a little hurried once we got a feel for the breadth of what was out there...
And finally, it was time to sit, share and celebrate at several participating restaurants around the 'hood. Yelpers checked in to Zinc, Bistronomy B2B, Shade Tree and Amore Pizzaria for special deals, discounts and freebies.
Thanks to all of the fantastic small businesses of every shape and stripe for making this inaugural crawl one to remember. The reviews say it all: on a sleepy Tuesday evening in Albuquerque, the streets were glowing and so were our faces, with some fabulous local gifts to wrap!
Loving the local artists, I'm signing off...
