Soirée L'Elite Yelp est Privée de Dessert !

Posted by Elodie

Yelp LA's Holiday Market: Nifty Under $50

Another year, another successful Yelp Shops Local campaign, as evidenced by the enthusiastic guests and vendors at Yelp's Holiday Market: Nifty Under $50 at Mack Sennett Studios in Silver Lake. On Thursday, December 19, the Yelp LA Community braved the wet, rainy conditions to do some last-minute holiday shopping, pampering, and boozing/fooding. With a gaggle of over 50 local artisans showing off their hand-crafted wares - all under $50 no less - the beautiful sound stage studios were filled with grand cheer and lots of credit card swiping (all going to local businesses!).

PicMonkey CollageMack Sennett Studios provided a labyrinth of a landscape to wind through, complete with a little LA history tucked in for good measure. Each stage hosted a bevvy of unique gifts like bow ties from Bowdacious, Dear Doggy treats and accessories, dainty gems from Rossmore, Amanda K Lockrow, Liza Shtromberg Jewelry, Strangers, Charlie and Marcelle, Pet Pigeons, and Kashi CoOp, and home goods carved from old wine barrels a la Winey Guys. Guests were caught two-fisting (encouraged!) Segura Viudas and Firestone Walker beverages, as well as snacking on Krave Jerky, Pretzel Crisps, and ips All Natural.

PicMonkey Collage1There were plenty of delicious sweet treats available for purchase as well thanks to The Donut Snob, Les Beaux Chocolats, Fancy Boyz, The Kandy Jar, Sugar Beak Bakery, Velvet Rope Bake Shop, Mwokaji Cakery, Baby Bea's Bakeshop, Ladybug Fortune Cookie, Action Cookies, The Copper Box Candy Company, and Pacific Cheesecake Company. Those that like to cook at home benefitted from having Savour This Sauce, Preservation Society, and Ayara Thai Sauces on hand! Hubert's Lemonade, Almond Milk LA, Better Booch, and The Humble Cup helped wash all that goodness down. Plenty of giveaways from AFC Trading, Washio, and Megabus kept attendees entertained, as well as body-moving beats from DJ Steven Lam of Sound Space Lab.

PicMonkey CollageMore creative presis were found at the Oxford Accessories, EJH Brand, Gloves by Katherine, FleaPop, Ram Fam Pottery, Bloom2Bloom, and Leanna Lin's Wonderland (complete witha bracelet-making station!) booths. Paper good aficianados geeked out at Hero Design and ilootpaperie, while fashionable finds were at every corner thanks to Urban Octopus, Orangeheat, Fleet Collection, Rojas Clothing, Paola Loves to Shop, Bad Pickle Tees, and Le Fashion Truck. Those who decked the halls with sweet purchases took advantage of pampering themselves at the Chella brow bar station, Point de Vue Salon braid/eyeliner room, Kure Spa accent nail chair, and Hair Charmsies glam area. Those that spent more than $50 were treated to a plate from BellyBombz, who was parked outside ready to feed the masses!

PicMonkey Collage3In the spirit of giving, Ronald McDonald House was on site collecting donations and designated items to help continue to provide comfort, care and support to children and families in Southern California. We raised over $700 and a van-size worth of goods for a great cause!

A big thank you to all the generous sponsors, specifically our venue, Mack Sennett Studios, and Unboxed Images for preserving the night in the form of pics and a video! If you snapped a selfie of yourself in the Uncropp'd photo booth, find your mug here. All other pics can be found on the Yelp LA Flickr page. Need a good read before the end of the year? Take a gander at the review page!

Fish & Eat Yelp Elite Christmas Event

Posted by Maud
PicMonkey Collage1
Danku Adil & A.K.A , jullie mogen op elk Yelp Elite Event komen spelen.
PicMonkey Collage4

Every Antwerp Citizen loves Mo but even more his Eat(ing) Empire! For our last (but of course not least) Elite Event of 2013 our host of the evening would be Fish & Eat, one of Mo's 3 fine restaurants in town, situated in the South of the city. Yelp made sure there was an extra touch at this great event by inviting Adil & A.K.A who were our musical hosts for the night. Mo and his team made sure our Yelp Community had enough food with oysters, mussels, salmon tapa's, fish & chips, squid and a lovely dessert! The Yelp Community could say nothing less than 'oooh's' and 'aaaaaah's' as the food and drinks were exquise. Then it was time for the last act of the evening, Santa Claus came with a bag full of presents the Yelpers had bought and each of them could take one out. There was even more music, with a duet from Maud N and Sara G, more food and drinks but Mo and Adil made the night complete!
Thanx so much Mo, for the best fish in town @ Fish & Eat, a wonderful staff and this great unforgettable event! Thank you Adil & A.K.A for the warm loving good music, you can come and play at every Yelp event! Beautiful pictures were taken by our Elite Katleen De Groote and we also raise the glass for our drinking sponsors Vedett and Casillero del Diablo, that you can buy at your local Delhaize.
Do you have regrets that you were not with us? How good it was? Incredbly good? Just read the great reviews! Thanx Yelp Antwerp for coming, we had a blast! And happy holidays to all of you! See you all in 2014

December 18th was the last Elite event for 2013 at Sugar Kiss Cupcake, this new tearoom, so cute, delicate imagined by Clémentine, the owner and the extra pastry Chef who welcomed the Elite squad who had a good greedy and festive moment!

« Clémentine, the pastry Chef made us a lot of cupcakes during this évent : goat cheese and honey or cherry and pistachio nut. Manon C was amazed by her sympathy, professionalisme and generosity ».

Oriane D really liked the workshop « make your own Xmas Biscuit » ! She won’t be able to eat it, because its so cute ! Finally, we all left with our small envelope; no, it is not about grandma's money for Christmas, but about Lucie's words of love ! So, what are the good resolutions for 2014 that we can take ? 1) Be the greedier Yelper ever 2) to go back at Sugar Kiss Cupcakes as quickly as possible » !

Soirée Elite : Ugly Sweaters Dynamise Mama @ Mama Shelter

Posted by Cyrielle T

December reserved attractive surprises for yelpers of Bordeaux ! Indeed, Yelp organized its Christmas Party in one of the most expected places from year 2013 : Mama Shelter ! And it's not less than 60 yelpers who were gathered during this event to spent a lovely time together for the last Elite event of year 2013.

Elodie D adored the Ugly Sweaters theme : "Almost everybody played the game, we could imagine us in a remake of Les Bronzés font du ski at Mama Shelter, it was funny !" Lauren R didn't know "know which way to turn as there were so much space in the room and the decoration were... surprising and heterogeneous !"

  Yelpeurs 2

An event placed under the sign of the greed too with a tasting of pizzas de la Mama. Camille D attributes  "a special mention for the pizza with the fresh burrata: Mama mia !" You can say that again ! Wines of Dourthe N°1 came in red and in white throughout the evening to accompany the various greedy flavors proposed.

  Pizza vin 2

Médélia A rushed to "the DIY workshop to decorate her fir tree with a touch of Yelp" while Barbara D shared "many giggle and met new people " by trying to guess colors on the yelpers badges to find her team-mates and go off to explore the Mama Shelter. She says it herself: "What a great idea these colors/groups for the private visit of Mama !" Laura M was totally conquered by "the visit of rooms purified in the well-kept design and the impressive view from the terrace of the hotel."

  DIY 2

The last words for Marie D : "The happiness of being able to meet new yelpers and to exchange with people we could not necessarily meet somewhere else, that is the success recipe of a Yelp event !"

Un huge thank you :

- To Moïse, Lauren, Yannick and Konstantin for the warm welcome, the availability and smiles they reserved us throughout the event at the Mama Shelter,

- To La Cave Dourthe for their delicious red and white wines,

- To Arnaud Proust for photos.

Yelp Maskeli Yılbaşı Partisi@THE HYBRID

Posted by Gakten

Şebnem S  "The Hybrid, partimiz için biçilmiş kaftandı adeta.

Uluç A ve Şebnem O'nun özenle yaptıkları 1. yaş pastamız keyfimize keyif kattı.

 Yelp Masquerade Party @The Hybrid

On December 23rd, Yelp Istanbul Elite Squad was in for a treat at The Hybrid, a hidden gem in Emirgan. Welcomed by the most amazing hosts Eldiven and Foxy, we knew were going to have a great night together. The venue, designed by Gozde the owner, looks and feels like a magic house. We all fell in love with each detail.

Everything we tried from The Hybrid Drink to the chocolate, strawberries to cookies was very tasty. Whilst enjoying the music and the environment, The Hybrid made us feel like at home. As it was Yelp Istanbul's first year anniversary, Our Elite Uluç A, and Yelper Şebnem O made us an incredible cake that we couldn't get enough of.

Thank you "The Hybrid Family" for hosting this unforgettable night. We sure will be back!

Yelp Buffalo's New Years Eve Lowdown

Posted by Alex L

Looking for ideas on what to do for the big NYE Celebration? Maybe this is the year you finally go to that lavish party you've always wanted to attend or maybe you're content to celebrate with friends or with family at their homes. Maybe you're even hosting!

Whatever you decide to do, it is my intention that this post lays out your options for where to party in Buffalo for NYE. Happy celebrating!

Screen Shot 2013-12-23 at 9.21.13 PM

  • New Year's Eve Gala @ WNYBAC ($70-80, food, beer and wine included) - Downtown, Electric Tower - This is an event hosted by the WNY Book Arts Center in downtown Buffalo right across from the Electric Tower. Enjoy the ball drop and fireworks from the comfort of their space, along with what is sure to be some very tasty food from Sun Restaurant.
  • The Gypsy Parlor NYE Party (free - cost of drinks) - This is sure to be a wild party in a very homey atmosphere in this new venue that opened up on Potomac & Grant St. It costs nothing to attend (except what you consume while you're here), but you'll enjoy a fun DJ and a fantastic atmosphere. If you want to eat dinner here, make sure you call and make reservations today!
  • Karaoke NYE Party @ Essex Street Pub ($50, includes open bar and buffet dinner) - Seems like one of the best NYE deals in town if you like hipster bars and karaoke. Get your tickets before they are sold out! Call the pub for more details!
  • Igloo NYE: Reanimate @ Heated Warehouse ($20-30) - Definitely one of the hottest underground-ish NYE events. This one is for your diehard electronic music fans. Enjoy multiple stories of dancing to psytrance, jungle, DNB, hiphop and more. Tickets are $20 in advance and $30 at the door. If you're still young enough to find yourself at one of these and want to dance into the New Year, be sure you get tickets before they're sold out!
  • The Lodge's NYE Party ($25.00-$150.00) - Their space is gorgeous and I'd definitely spring for the $150 VIP+Dinner if I was looking for a delicious 5-course dinner to kick off this year with. The menu looks delicious! $25 for a general admission ticket includes a drink, a champagne toast and passed small bites.
  • NYE 2014 on the Lake ($25-35) - Advertised as the "best view in the city," Templeton Landing is the location for what's dubbed as "NYE Party for Urban Professionals." Three rooms with different DJs, snacks, champagne fountains and the lower price tag definitely make this a compelling choice.
  • The Great Gatsby NYE Extravaganza ($150) - Fittingly at the art-deco themed boutique hotel, this looks to be one opulent party that they are hosting for the New Year. Enjoy delicious food, an open bar and a myriad of activities. Click through for more details!
  • Statler City's Ice Ball ($125+) - Although the first year they hosted this event, they ran into some trouble with over crowding, it's been smooth sailing since. Limiting the event to 1500 guests, this is surely another lavish option for celebrating the New Year.
  • Tonawanda Castle's NYE Gala ($50) - The price tag includes a station style dinner and a champagne toast as well as entertainment...a performance by "Boneshakers" (not sure if I've ever heard anything by them). Great location if you want to head down to see the Ball Drop at the Gateway Harbor.
  • Salvatore's 2014 Ball ($25-150) - I was a bit confused with the different ranges of events...from just a lounge to a full dinner, but it's definitely something to consider if you're looking for your celebration to be based in Depew!

That's all for now. If you want to add to this list, feel free to add to this Talk thread or Tweet us your ideas @YelpBuffalo.

Happy a safe and happy celebration!

PDXYelp Elites Get Lucky at Yelp's Kentucky Holiday Event @ Portland Meadows!

Posted by Don Bourassa

Nothing warms up a cold, wet winter better than holiday cheer, mint juleps and a little fun at the race track. And as 200+ PDXYelp Elites found out on December 22, 2013, a Sunday funday at Portland Meadows Race Track is sure to fill anyone with holiday spirit! Yes, it's Yelp's Kentucky Holiday @ Portland Meadows!

The fine folks at one of Portland's most storied institutions welcomed Yelpers out to the race track on a wet PDX Sunday. Yelpers were treated to a seminar on betting - how to read the programs, how to pick the ponies, etc – a service offered every Sunday at 11am at the track. Following the class, the top-notch staff at the Turf Club threw us one heck of a party! As Katie H notes, "They rolled out the red carpet for us and treated us right." They sure did. First off, Lydia and the bar staff mixed up some mean Bloody Marys with New Deal's Portland 88 Vodka. Also on pour, the synonymous-with-racing mint juleps were a hit. Oh, and for those suds-loving folks, a little Vitamin R in the slick winter cans. Aaron W confirms: "Strong Mint Julep = win. Coffee on hand for my caffeine fix. All the required beverages I needed."

But beverages alone do not make a trip to the track complete. The buffet line included a spiral ham with maple-bourbon sauce (with live carving station!), biscuits and sausage gravy, seasonal quiche (with vegetarian options), roasted red potatoes, balsamic caprese skewers, roasted asparagus with lemony hollandaise sauce, applewood-smoked bacon, cheese blintz with fresh berry sauce and a fresh fruit platter! Lily S only needs three words to describe it: "FULL OF WIN!"

Bryan I sums it up well: "This was by far the most exciting elite event all year!" We're glad you think so, Bryan! Huge thanks go out to William, Amber, Lydia and the whole crew at Portland Meadows; Tom and the folks at New Deal Distillery; Jenni L and Ana B; and of course the PDXYelp Elite Squad, without whom this would not be possible.

Well, that's a wrap on 2013 Elite Season, folks. Cap it off by reading the reviews for this event (and leaving your own too!), checking the photos, and drinking some nog.

Until next year, SYOY!

Yelp BPB Has A Holiday Party

Posted by Blue Arauz

Last Tuesday about 80 Elites and guests got together for one last time in 2013 at Yelp's Holiday House Party at Himmarshee Public House.

The brand spanking new Himmarshee Public House offered up the perfect venue for a holiday shindig with a private VIP area equipped with a massive LED screen, comfortable seating areas and a top notch bites including: Flatbreads, Bacon & Corn Fritters, Buffalo Bleu Cheese Dip, Mini Chicken Empanadas , Warm Soft Pretzel and Street Tacos. The fine folks at New Belgium Brewery provided some ice cold beers and Voli Vodka brought in the holiday cheer with a deliciously festive Yelp Voliday Nog that took spiked nog to a whole new level.

Not only was the event a way for the BPB community to celebrate the year that was and gather for the holidays but it was also an opportunity to spread some cheer to underprivileged children. Our wonderful partners at the Ronald McDonald House received over 90 unwrapped toys to distribute to children this holiday season thanks to the kind donations from Yelpers!

What's a holiday party without Santa? Instead of the traditional, jolly, rotund Santa, Yelp BPB had a sexy Mr. and Mrs. Clause (from USP Crossfit) taking photos with guests. The massive LED screen lit up with pictures from all of the Elite events held in 2013 as well as some festive photos of Elites as elves, presents, holiday kittens, Santa Claus and more.

Did you miss it? No worries A Flash In Time Photography was there to snap some pics and capture the moments! Check all the photos out here.

Bringing ya some holiday cheer and wishing you a happy new year,

Yelp's Sweater Soiree At Hard Rock Hotel's Float!

The weather outside was frightful, but Float was so delightful... true story! It was a grey, drizzly night outside, but San Diego Elites and their guests would never have known once they stepped into Float at the Hard Rock Hotel, our host for A Very Yelpy Holiday Party. Location, location, location! Courtney D shares, "what an amazingly fun night. I had never been to the Hard Rock, and the rooftop bar, Float, totally exceeded my expectations. It was open and spacious, with fire pits and heat lamps, and a pool that would have looked preeettttyyyy enticing if it wasn't drizzly and 58 degrees." Energy flowed, personalities mingled and the mood was set as DJ Gabe Vega played the soundtrack to what would be a night to remember for all in attendance at Yelp's Sweater Soiree At Hard Rock Hotel's Float! Hr1

To keep spirits bright, Float's bar staff mixed some holiday libations for most Yelpers made with Absolut Vodka and Montalvo Tequila while others indulged in a seemingly endless flow of house red wine, white wine and draft beer. Let's not forget the food! Making their way around the room (pool) were hibachi beef skewers with a teriyaki glaze, kahlua pig empanadas with grilled pineapple salsa and a lump crab quesadilla with smoked gouda and a grilled corn and mango relish. "My fave was the kahlua pork empanadas with the pineapple chutney, Just the right amount of crunch. Beef skewers were so yummy with the veggies in the middle" said connoisseur Mercy B. Hr3 Hr4
As with all good Elite events, this Very Holiday Party was over in just the (Saint) Nick of time. Before bidding aideu to Yelpers, Hard Rock was generous enough to invite all in attendance to a free after party at 207 for Third Thursdays, featuring live performances from MNDR and Little Hurricane - some award-winning San Diego bands. Oh, what a night! Hr5 Hr6
A very merry thank you to Float at the Hard Rock Hotel, Absolut Vodka, Montalvo Tequila, DJ Gabe Vega, Hilde Stephan Photography, Chris Brake Photography and everyone who helped make this party a 5-star event! Be sure to check out all the pictures here! Hr2

Good tidings to you and all of your kin!

Buffalo Yelpers Get Merry And Go Mad For Lloyd Tacos @ Screening Room Cinema Cafe

Posted by Alex L

Buffalo is home to many little gems and secrets. Yesterday, Yelp Elites were lucky to uncover The Screening Room Cinema Cafe: Buffalo's only boutique Theater which showcases independent films, old movies anime and various film-tastic premieres. Check out their web site for a full schedule.

Not so much a huge secret anymore (unless you've been living under a suburban rock), Lloyd made an appearance to cater the event and provide a delectable complimentary taco bar for Yelp Elites. If you're considering using Lloyd as a catering service, stop considering and DO IT. Their setup is incredibly professional. They bring all the equipment necessary including even hot water to keep the chafing dishes warm. Their prices are, lucky for us, very reasonable.

Thanks to The Screening Room Cafe, Lloyd and all the wonderful Elites and their +1's who made the voyage yesterday in spite of the snow: life was grande for a few hours. Elite's joyfully participated in movie trivia (and won some great prizes), enjoyed complimentary beer, wine, popcorn, tacos with chicken, beef, beans or wild rice, corn and bean salad, nachos with delicious Lloyd guacamole and even some Aztec Brownies for dessert! We then watched "It's A Wonderful Life" on some nice comfy couches or seats.

As Kristin H eloquently wrote: "almost every Yelper in the room was introduced to The Screening Room Cinema Café. And *gasp* even a couple of attendees enjoyed their first Lloyd Taco Truck experience (...can you imagine??). It was a match made in heaven!" She adds "PS - Lloyd (I,II & III), I will continue to stalk you all around town in 2014!"

Jody G had similar feelings: "The "Screening Room is a great alternative to all of those mega-plexes out there.  It's small and cozy, and offers many seating options (comfy couches on which to cuddle.... wing back chairs.... and tables just right for munching at)." She even further gave a shout out to Lloyd and their legendary Rocket Sauce (which makes a great holiday gift BTW) ... yum! She concludes: "When one is a Yelp Elite it truly IS a wonderful life!"

If you've never experienced either The Screening Room Cafe or Lloyd, I urge you...for your own sanity and taste buds...to do so! If you're still looking for holiday gift ideas, The Screening Room Cafe offers fantastic movie packages which include two tickets, two beers or wines...for $25. Check it out! A marvelous place to enjoy movies or even rent out for your own private event :). An enthusiastic Yelper even set up a UYE (Unofficial Yelp Event) for their upcoming Anime night in January. Check it out here!

A big thanks to resident-Yelper Paul F for the fantastic photos and collages. Be sure to give his FB page a like here!

Soirée Elite Toulouse - Mon Can-Art

Posted by Florence

---------- A Ducky Elite event in Toulouse ----------

Toulouse’s Elite squad have fell in a duck induced delirium on Thrusday december 19th.

To celebrate the holidays, the restaurant Mon Cochon Mon Canard had set up a fantastic buffet around duck. Duck breast, smoked steaklet of duck, foie gras … A symphony of local ducky specialties !

Claire J fell under the duck-spell : « What a pleasure these Yelp events ! The duck-tapas were so delicious (and on the quantitative level, there was enough tapas to feed three trucks full of starving yelpers !)»

Capture d’écran 2013-12-23 à 09.47.57
But the cherry on top of the duck-cake was elsewhere ! Not to stray too far from the theme, the Elites got some very original artistic activities going on ! Pimping duck’s effigies, paint, glitter everywhere … The business owner was thrilled to get our master pieces, that are now exhibited at the restaurant !

Marie B showed us her magnificient creativity by making a wonderful Canard-Ga-Ga ! « I just loved decoring my little duck, It was really funny to do. Plus : there was a lot of glitter !  ». And we all know that glitter means happiness for this well known DIY blogger.

Capture d’écran 2013-12-23 à 09.49.17
Thank you to the Elites, their extraordinary good mood, and to the restaurant Mon Cochon Mon Canard for their exceptional buffet, and lovely welcome !

Yelp Gets NYC Shopping Local

Over here at Yelp, we're all about great local businesses. That's why we're challenging communities across Yelpland to buy outside the (big) box. Why? 'Cause every $100 spent at an independent retailer means $58 stay local!

There's no better time to put your money where your heart is than during the holidays and throughout the last couple of weeks, and we did just that along with our partners at Delivery.comShop hop1Shopping local is great, but it's always made more fun when you add in friends, adult libations, small snacks, live music, gift wrapping, and a visit from Ol' Saint Nick himself! Yelpers traveled throughout the borough of Manhattan - from Upper East Side to SoHo - for our series of Shop Hops throughout the month of December. From locally made jewelry and accessories to unique apparel and even some nostalgic baseball goods (for the dude in the fam), there was a little something for everyone.Shop hop2Yelp's Shop Hop series made visits to STORY (FB | T | Insta | PIn), Bergino Baesball Clubhouse (FB | T), Pickett's Press (FB | T | Pin), The Market NYC (FB | T | Insta | Pin), and KITEYA SoHo. But the local love doesn't have to stop here! Our neighbors in the local business community need your support all year round. Make spending your dollars at home a resolution for 2014, eh?Shop hop3Check out pictures of our five days of local indulgence here! Memphis Yelp's Tacky Sweater Party at Patrick's

Posted by Joelle P

Barrett R dives right in with the scoop on Yelp Memphis's Tacky Sweater Party at Patrick's! "This has been my favorite Elite event to date. The crowd was cool. And Mike Miller, owner of Patrick's, was very hospitable." And that just scratches the surface! Memphis Elites were getting festive in their tacky sweaters while drinks flowed and an endless parade of delicious home cooking danced through the room all night.

The holiday photo booth fun was an endless supply of giggles throughout the evening…especially due to those Santa mustache straws! And Elizabeth Looney Photography was on site to capture all those priceless candid moments! To see all of the photos from this event (and every other event) pretty please go to our Yelp Memphis Facebook Page or Flickr account.

And can we talk about the food for a minute? Florestela G dishes, "The food was amazing! I've been trying to find a delicious burger place and now I have. My favorite appetizer was the corn dip, and the blue cheese burger was the bomb! The drinks were nice and strong. Got to meet some really awesome people and take some yelp goodies home. First thing I did after I left this event was rave to my family and friends about their food."

A huge thank you to our friends at Patrick's, especially owner Mike Miller, for providing awesome edibles. If you were among the lucky Elites who attended this holiday rendezvous, please don't forget to contribute a review to tell us what you thought! And if you didn't attend, you can click here to read all of the 5-star reviews!

And last but not least, congratulations to the winner of the costume contest, Trevor W! He wasn't wearing a tacky sweater but he certainly stole the show!

Louisville Elites take a trip to Winter Warmer Wonderland at Bourbons Bistro

Posted by Emily H

On a chilly winter night, the Louisville Elites gathered for a little liquid warmth.

The group of 40 or so got together in Bourbons Bistros' chic upstairs space for Yelp's Winter Warmer Wonderland — a magical holiday space where bourbon reigned and yuletide shenanigans ensued.

As Karen R put it, "The space looked welcoming and the lights added that festive touch that made me crave the warmth of bourbon."

Upon entering, the Elites were given "winter survival kit" gift bags. (Because what holiday party is complete without presents?)

Inside they found a slew of Yelp swag to help them get through the season: Yelpstick lip balm, mints, a shot glass and the most recent Buy Local Guide from the Louisville Independent Business Association.

They were also entered to win prizes for checking in, including a large bourbon gift basket and tote from the Louisville Convention and Visitors Bureau, which oversees the Urban Bourbon Trail, a collection of roughly 20 bars, restaurants, distilleries and attractions. (Bourbons Bistro is one of the founding members.)

Other prizes included T-shirts from Bourbons Bistro, tickets to Louisville Stoneware, tickets to the Frazier History Museum, bourbon tasting booklets from Moonshine University and the floral centerpieces from Boston's Floral Couture.

The Elites spent time noshing on some of Bourbons Bistro's goodies, using some holiday props in front of a tinsel-ly photo backdrop and writing about their favorite review of the year on ornament gift tags and placing them on a small tree.

But the highlight of the evening was definitely the drink demos by Richie from Maker's Mark.

As if he were reading "Twas the Night Before Christmas" by a fire, everyone gathered around him to learn how to make a hot toddy and a Tom and Jerry — the latter was a eggnog-like drink, not the cartoon duo.

"It was a little taste of home for me to have a Tom and Jerry, as that is what my parents have as their holiday drinks at home in Wisconsin," wrote Kathy V. "And now I know how to make the drink from scratch!"

And of course everyone had to try a sample after the demo was done.

It made Suzanne B even wax poetic:

"We toasted with toddy, were nice and not naughty, nibbled hors d'oeuvres and made merry. Toward the end of our time we all stood in line to see how one makes "Tom and Jerry.

"As the night grew longer our desire grew stronger to see what we might win in the raffle. Bourbon gifts and tube socks, Frazier tickets and arm clocks, that were meant to delight and not baffle."

The shindig was a fun capstone to 2013 — and hopefully a lead-in into some more fun times in 2014.

"I can't wait for more great events next year," wrote Raquelle Z.

To learn more about the event, read the reviews and check out the rest of the photos, thanks to rad local photographer Maggie Huber.

She even put together a video of the night.

A special thanks to all who came out and to those who helped with the event.

Until next time... SYOY!!!

Yelp Vancouver Shops Local @ Hawkers Market

Posted by Jody B

What happens when Yelp Vancouver pairs up with this monthly dosage of food & music? The perfect spotlight for Yelp Shops Local shenanigans & a fabulous end to a very Yelpy 2013! Hawkers Market aims to create a space where vibrant and exciting local food can be discovered and on December 14th, 130 lucky Vancouver Elites and their guests did just that!

This foodie extravaganza offered up a one-two punch as guests got to nibble on tasters from the market's 15+ local vendors while crossing off that christmas shopping list. Mall-scmall - Yelp Elites tackle holiday errands with a sip, a nibble and a lot of good company! And for sips, what better to compliment a night of shopping then a glass of Pinot Noir from local wine wizards, Niche Winery? Elites got to sample this local vino while they made their rounds. But the brew crew would not leave disappointed, an Elite staple Parallel 49 Brewing made one last Yelp appearance for 2013.

So with a drink in hand, and the DJ rocking, Elites toured East Van Studios to talk and taste with the excellent array of local biz owners. From Sugo Sauce's italian sauces, Yummus' smoky hummus (addictive!) and the mouth watering India Base - savory lovers were well looked after. Those looking for a little kick took refuge at Dolly's Treats who offered each guest a full sized bottle of their infamous Red Pepper Vodka Jelly to fall in love with! Or slide over to West Coast Chutney, who harvest their own apples for their epic apple chutney!

Those with a sweet tooth ventured to Edible Mark for holiday macrons; Hives For Humanity for bitchin' local honey (pst - this little CM has one of the hives in her back yard!); Ceiba Gourmet for cajeta (goat's milk caramel goodness!); Brown Paper Packages for the adult ice cream bar (you heard me: boozy ice-cream); Sweet Petite (hello truffle cake pops!); Happily Stuffed (gluten free goddesses) & Candy Meister - the CANDY food truck.

And when they could eat no more - they stumbled over to Oollo Tea for something to jump start their system again, because gosh knows - an Elite saves room for Turducken. That's right - the sandwich lords themselves Fat Duck Eatery were onsite serving up Christmas in a carry out tray (complete with bacon jam). Nicely followed by a sinfully sweet crepe ℅ Chou Chou.

Add super awesome #NiftyUnderFifty raffle prizes; swag bags with cool loot from the Market and campy Christmas decorations and you've got one hell of a party! Big thanks to Chris & Hawkers Market; to all the amazing vendors who wine & dined & crossed off our christmas lists; to Tonye A for keeping this Yelp ninja sane (and fed) and to the Vancouver Elites who made this one heck of year!

Check out the five star reviews (and pen your own) here; and the photos ℅ LindsayDiet here.

Keep it local; keep it Yelpy! Until next year Vancouver!

LA East Elites Bring on the Ugly to Holiday Sweater Party

We jingled in the holidays with a toy drive to benefit a local non-profit, Walking for Mommy, at Yelp's Ugly Sweater Holiday Bash at Toro Sushi Bar and Lounge in Pasadena. Early arrivals were put straight to work on the Yelp Holiday Wish board with many looking to get lucky for the Mega jackpot. All work eventually pays off as Elites received a fancy Yelp mustache to accessorize with their holiday wear.

Elites were then greeted with the sweet vocals and talented acoustics of Who's Clayton. As they jammed, Elites made their way to some grub that included: Mini Baked Orange, Dynamite Mussels, Teriyaki Meatballs, Japanese-style Ceviche, Sauteed Edamame, Sexi Mexi Roll, and Greenbay Roll. The Ceviche was easily the crowd favorite as Leona S raves, "My goodness, the ponzu in there was a real punch of flavor with the tuna and salmon. I could've eaten bowls and bowls of that."

To wash it all down were Toro's famous and award-winning Cucumber Skini-Tini made with Skinny Girl Vodka, brews from Ohana Brewing Company, and Lagunitas IPA and Little Sumpin' Sumpin'.

Capturing all the "ugly" moments was Yorokobi Photo Booth with all their fun and creative props making for a picture-perfect hit! Pics of ugly sweaters were snapped throughout the night, but a special shoutout to Shanika H. and her Miley-riding ornament! And of course, the lovely ladies at Walking for Mommy were thrilled with all the loot donated for the kiddos!

Filled with holiday cheer, we ended the night raising over $350 and over 80 unwrapped toys for the organization. What a great way to end the year with some holiday giving!

Happy Holidays!

The Toys Took Over Audi Mission Viejo For A Good Cause!

Posted by Ryan C.

'Twas the week before Christmas and all through the land, all the Yelpers were stirring, cocktails by Nekter in hand. Wine glasses were filled by Stella Rosa's good cheer, while those who didn't want bubbly enjoyed a cold beer.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of their parents driving new Audis danced in their heads. For those who chose not to travel during this super busy season, Lyft was offering free credits to attendees to enjoy without reason.
Food was overflowing from each guest's full platter, while Taco Asylum's fare was all the chatter. A variety of Mountain Mike's Pizza came out at a fast pace, while Veggie Grill served meat free goodness and salads in their cute little space.

In Orange County we never experience the snow on the street, but Confetti brought an array of ice in the form of a sweet. Tarte Asian Yogurt served mixtures that caused people to swarm, and Hidden House Coffee did pour overs to keep the hearts warm.
No party is complete without a few crazy pics, thank goodness for Dazzle Photobooth and their variety of props and awesome selfie tricks. As the night progressed and the dancers got light on their feet, DJ Velvet Touch surrounded the room with carols and a beat.
Raffle fun
Though a raffle and costume contest are always great fun, we should all be so proud of what we got done. Three large boxes of toys for the children filled fast, and the memories these kids we've created with Toys For Tots to last.

A big thanks to our participating sponsors:

Yelp Hamburg Elite 2013 - Wie geil war das denn?!

Posted by Mareike

Was soll ich sagen?

 --------- In English -----------

Oh well, what to say? My wild journey as the Community Manager for Hamburg started excatly one year ago - with Yelps "Glühweinclub". Since then we have done the coolest and weirdest things together: participating in a charity run(while wearing morphsuits), sailing down the Elbe in a private boat, opening the BBQ season in the snow or having a burger picnic at a church, just to name a few. Yes, we have been through a lot together and this screams for a yelpy party!

To end the year in style we celebrated at the Christgrindelmarkt - with lots of Glühwein, a yelp cake, a photobooth and Elites from near and far. One Yelper drove over 250km to join us for the last Elite event of 2013. Chapeau! Thanks to the Christgrindelmarkt crew for the fantastic location, Ida from irj design for the pictures and of course to the best community in the whole wide world. Can´t wair to see you all again in 2014!

Sacramento Elites Celebrate A Festivus For The Rest Of Us!

Posted by Alex L

Why celebrate the holidays the old-fashioned way when you can be a part of Yelp's Festivus For The Rest Of Us? That was the opinion of around 300 Sacramento yelpers who converged last Tuesday evening at the Pachamama Coffee Cooperative and John Natsoulas Gallery in Davis. More of a holiday hodgepodge than anything (a true Festivus would be anti-celebration - what fun is that?), the gathering featured fourteen different food and drink vendors, finger-snappin' tunes and a chance to sit on Santa's lap - all benefiting our charity partner the Antelope Quilter's Guild!

The gallery, which consists of four levels (our party was on the first two), is a warm and welcoming modern event venue right in the heart of downtown Davis. Pachamama, a 100% farmer-owned distributor of premium coffee from around the world, recently opened their first official full-service coffee shop on the ground level and their wonderful staff were present to offer up free samples of their invigorating brews.

Festivus is a time to air grievances and demonstrate feats of strength, and nothing lubricates those activities better than quality adult beverages. We were fortunate to have some of the best premium local and international beer vendors on hand, including Drake's Brewing CompanyHoppy Brewing Companyol' Republic BrewerySingha Beer and Six Rivers Brewery. "Nothing quite trampolines the holiday spirit into the stratosphere like most excellent libations, and there was quite a gathering of brews and wines to pass around," shares Michelangelo S. Vinophiles rejoiced in complimentary tastings from Avio VineyardsDobra Zelmja Winery, Renwood Winery and Scott Harvey Wines, four of the most acclaimed wineries from neighboring Amador County. Designated drivers and soda lovers in general savored the refreshing flavors of Joia All Natural Soda.
Of course, alcohol on an empty stomach could have spoiled the ani-merriment at the Festivus pole. Fortunately, Dish It Up Catering (aka Digger's Deli) served scrumptious shrimp crackers and artichoke dip (Cindy S: "Smooth and creamy with that perfect bite of seasoning."), while Two Moms Catering distributed generous portions of mouthwatering meatballs and rice (Michelangelo S: " I must have had 20 meatballs throughout the night, they were so damn good!"). The selection of delectable cupcakes from About a Bite Bakery were, in the words of Jefferson L, "enough to make anyone's dentist jump for joy!"

While the night included many highlights, one of the most popular were the jazzy holiday arrangmenets from the popular Foothill Jazz Conservative. And what would a holiday party be without a visit from Santa? Good and bad girls and boys lined up to tell Santa Kris what they want for Christmas and get instant print outs of their photos from the always-professional Express Event Imaging. The photos are also available online. "A picture with Santa Claus brings out the kid in all of us," notes Scott F.

The proverbial night cap to this wonderful evening was the announcement of our three Scavenge Sacramento prize winners! Around half of those in attendance were participants in the hunt. The hunt was sponsored by Sacramento365.com, whose staff also manned the coat check for the evening. One lucky yelper also won two Rare Beer Tasting tickets ($200 total value) at the Art of Beer Invitational during a competition to throw a plastic Santa head in a basket. Sounds crazy, but who wouldn't want those tickets?

In the end, just under $1000 was raised for the Antelope Quilter's Guild, who also supplied hard-working volunteers to display their works, show off the Festivus Pole and keep track of the Airing of Grievances!

Special thanks to Melissa Uroff for her always dynamic photos, my lovely assistants Ashley N and Eddie H, and Pachamama, the Sacramento365 staff and gallery staff. Also thanks to Uber for providing special discounts so those travelling from afar could get back home safely!

Houstonians Shop Local at Yelp's Nifty Under $50

Posted by Farrah Akhtar

You've heard of Black Friday and Small Business Saturday. But have you experienced Yelp's Nifty Under $50? On Saturday, December 14th, this handpicked holiday market featured 40+ local retailers, designers, artists and food artisans selling their swanky wares – with every price tag $50 or less!

And, boy, there were plenty of vendors. From organic soaps and beauty products to handmade jewlery and accessories – wall decor, photo prints, you name it! – Santa and his elves have nothing on the array of high-quality gifts offered at this market.

And we shouldn't forget the holiday treats! Deep Eddy Vodka and the Deep Eddy Bettys featured three different holiday cocktails for the crowds, as Saint Arnold Brewing Company poured their famous Santo and Amber Ale. And to keep warm from the winter chill, Katz Coffee offered hot chocolate and gourmet coffee. And retail therapy wouldn't be complete without delectable bites! My Fit Foods was on the scene dishing out warm (and healthy!) bites; Whole Foods Market served up sweets, like maracoons, brownies, cupcakes and cookies. And KIND Healthy Snacks kept shoppers fueled with heart-healthy KIND bars.

For added entertainment, DJ Seduction spun a mash-up of holiday beats; there was henna, dancing, free gift wrapping and giveaways from CBS Radio Houston's MIX 96.5. And to top it off, shoppers were able to roam the halls and check out artist studios as part of the venue's Second Saturday Open Studios

...And we can't forget the Lulu Lopez photo booth! (pics here)

The event attracted 600+ shoppers ready and willing to spend their hard-earned money and keep those dollars right here in Houston! Many thanks to those in attendance pleding to shop local this holiday season!

Happy holidays, Houston – and SYOY!

Yelp Charlotte's Santa's Little Yelper @ Another Broken Egg SouthPark

Posted by Nikki

Let's be honest, who doesn't enjoy being greeted at a party by a hostess wearing a onesie? Oh yes, Holly B and I broke out the onesies for this bash. Another Broken Egg in SouthPark played host to 20 elites and friends for Santa's Little Yelper holiday brinner party. A night filled with breakfast goodness, ornament making, tremendous slippers and boozy coffee.

Yelper 3

The evening started right with mimosas, bloody marys and apps. The Baked Brie Delight and Biscuit Beignets scored big points with this crew. As Kelly C describes the latter, "Powdered sugar, fried biscuit wonder."

Yelp 4

After some schmoozing at the bar, the crew found their way back to the dining room. Each setting was complete with a ABE travel coffee mug to take home and a special surprise inside: a gift card for free Biscuit Beignets. Winner! Now on to the entrees. Candyce B went with the Lobster & Brie Omelette, "Okay, now I'm not really one to rave about eggs...but this omelette was simply divine! The eggs were cooked perfectly and the mix of warm cream cheese and brie was so rich and creamy!!!" Kenny R had the omelette as well, but found a friend who got the Bananas Foster Waffle,  "I took a bite of my new acquaintance's waffle that was next to me and cherished every bite."

Yelper 5

Arts and crafts time!! My word, you guys are creative with some glitter glue, stickers and snow. Congrats to our winners Christi K (with her fantastic Yelp ornaments) and Kevin L (with his penguin in a snow globe)! Big thanks to Rodney Strong Vineyards for providing some of our prizes.

Yelper 7

Everyone went home with sparkly Yelp bouncy balls and homemade hot chocolate kits... and the image of a giant balloon Santa forever engraved in their minds. I went home with another pile of toys and happiness to take to The Salvation Army Christmas Bureau. The smiles on those workers' faces were amazing when I dropped off all the goodies.

Yelper 6

You can find all the pictures here. Thank you to the fantastic Tonya P and Poprock Photography. So with full bellies, warm hearts and completely covered in glitter.... we all ventured home. Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

Until next time... SYOY!!

Phoenix Elites Wake Up At North Italia

The holiday spoiling was in full affect when the Elite squad was invited to "Wake Up at North Italia." On a crisp Saturday morning, Elites took a seat at North’s community table and with a welcome Bloody Mary in hand, the feast began!

  Food Collage

Group shot Collage

The morning started off with sweet mason jars filled with tempting fruit and granola parfait, followed by heaping plates full of baked French toast. Each sweet bite tasted better than the next, but the meal was only just getting started! In between bites of baked French toast, servers presented platefuls of egg scramble filled with spinach, mushrooms, asparagus, zucchini and white cheddar cheese. As if that wasn’t enough, they then brought out short rib hash topped with fried eggs! Just when Yelpers thought they were stuffed to the rim, North presented a surprise dish of their signature potatoes and they washed the entire meal down with Mimosas and coffee.

  Food 2 Collage

Yelping Collage

Stuffed to the point of a food coma, the Chef invited the Elites over to the demonstration table where he taught Yelpers how to make their own pasta and then invited them to try it themselves! After the interactive fun, Yelpers got a gift bag that included a small package of homemade pasta.

  Pasta Collage

A special thank you to North Italia for hosting the Elites and to Wrap Arizona LLC for capturing it all on camera! Don't forget to take a look at the reviews and pictures!

Until next time,

Elites Takeover Bay Street Biergarten

Posted by Scotty

Biergarten Collage Sign-groups-koozie

Bay Street Biergarten is one of the hottest new beer bars in the country and last week they opened their doors to the Yelp Elite community for an opportunity to get acquainted with this new neighborhood biergarten. After years of an empty parking lot and businesses that just didn't make it, what seemed like a huge risk to some, seems to already be paying off big. What is it that Bay Street Biergarten does differently than anyone else in town? An innovative pour-your-own-beer tap system. Biergarten Collage Taps

As yelpers checked in at the door, they were immediately given a pre-loaded Bier Card to pick and choose their brews of choice. Boasting 60 flowing taps from behind the bar to at the tables, 14 of them being self service. Once you get the hang of the innovative tap system, you'll be pouring like a pro. The self pour system offers you the opportunity to pour anywhere from one ounce of brew to a german style stein of almost novelty proportions. Touch the iPad screens to get a run down on each particular brew including its style, brewery, background, price per ounce, and ABV. Next pop in your card and start pouring. Aside from what was already on tap, local Palmetto and Holy City breweries brought out some kegs to add tot he mix. Pro Tip: Make sure not to pull on the taps until you're ready to rock. It creates CO2 buildup in the lines making your brew a foamy mess.
Biergarten Collage Operating
Samantha I prefer's her booze with a little less barley and wheat. Naturally she was "more interested in the vodka cocktail at the bar...so good!" The special Yelp Cocktail was served using Lemongrass flavored Kai Vodka, mint, ginger, and citrus. After getting your drink situation under control it was time to move on to the food. Now, when you hear Bay Street Biergarten, one automatically assumes they have great beer… obviously. Not so obvious is the jaw-dropingly delicious fare spun off of German classics from the kitchen. From the Southern Schnitzel Sandwiches to the Chicken, Bacon, and Waffle Skewers, the trays of food steadily came out of the kitchen until everyone was happy. The Gouda Stuffed Pretzel Balls were nearly impossible to snag. Justin A watched "like a hawk to swoop in and grab some to finally get a taste." The staff was on top of replenishing the bites as quickly as possible and always available to assist any novice pourers in the meantime.
Biergarten Collage RMH-Drinks-Band
Being that it's the giving season and all, Yelp brought out some volunteers from the Charleston Ronald McDonald House to collect donations at the door from our gracious Yelpers. Folks brought all sorts of household items like giant packs of toilet paper to cleaning supplies and garbage bags. Our giant donation box was so overflowing with care that we had to start stacking items off to the side to make more room. The Ronald McDonald House was thrilled with the support.
Biergarten Collage Beer-Food-Fun
If not B-lining for bratwurst or sipping on suds, yelpers enjoyed picking up some new Yelp schwag like the winter appropriate "Yelp Life" fingerless gloves. All the while, the Bluestone Ramblers were bumpin' the banjos filling the biergarten with some extra stringy sounds. Andie C caught them before at Kudu and was "so pumped to see them" at the event. Thanks to everyone involved, the event was a great introduction to Wraggborough's newest hot spot. To see what others had to say, along with the rest of the pics, check out the review page and the photo page.

Fiesta Élite: #YelperInvisible @ Panrallao

Posted by Txema

Yelp Omaha's Tour & Tasting @ Lucky Bucket Brewing Co.

Posted by Will

Omaha's Elite Squad enjoyed their first-ever Elite Event at the Lucky Bucket Brewing Co. From tastings of brews and spirits to a tour of the brewery, Elites learned all about Nebraska's first craft brewery AND distillery.

Blog5 Blog2
Blog3 Blog7

As yelpers arrived, they grabbed samples of the various beers on tap, ranging from Lucky Bucket's signature pre-prohibition style lager to their dark and mysteroius Certified Evil brew. They also brought out samples of their vodka and rum. Everything was made with love right in the unassuming brewery/disillery. Bites were provided by gourmet food truck Localmotive, including two varities of their incredibly delicoius rounders. Tour guide Seth soon took everyone on a tour of facilities, explaining the short yet incredibly succeful story of this young brewery in Nebraska.

Blog4 Blog11 Blog9 Blog10

Matt M said: "Great event with good people and delicious complimentary food and beer. The event was planned well and the turn out was great. I hope there are many more events to come." Oh yes, there's a lot more to come Matt! Many thanks to Brady Hess (photographer), David and Jamie at Localmotive and Addie and Seth at Lucky Bucket! Cheers!

Yelp Charlotte's Night Before Yelp-mas @ Another Broken Egg Ballantyne

Posted by Nikki

Once again, I'm going to pass the mic to Will H to start this one off - "A small dinner gathering of Elites with drinks and appetizers, full entrees, and then cookie decorating and munching to top it off? All while I'm wearing my cozy pajamas? Yes, please!" 19 Elites and friends ventured up 485 for the Night Before Yelp-mas hosted by Another Broken Egg in Ballantyne.

Yelpmas 1

The evening kicked off with some Biscuit Beignets and Baked Brie Delight apps. As Giannabrie F dishes, "it was perfection, seriously. I could have easily just filled up on those two items." To wash it all down... mimosas, poinsettas (cranberry and champagne concoctions), and bloody marys. The mimosas won over Mike C. "Look, I'm not a big drinker and usually like more manly drinks but these were darn tasty. I even stuck my pinky out to drink em."

Yelpmas 2

And then came the entrees. Chad E paints quite a picture, "by far the favorite was the lobster-brie omelette, but the most amazing looking dish was the salad, which had undergone some sort of terraforming so that it stood up like a Borg spacecraft, complete with antenna at the top."

Yelpmas 3

The night ended with a battle in creativity via cookie decorating. As Jeff S discovered, "who knew that icing came in the same containers as Easy Cheese?" Congrats to our winners Will H and Brian F! Thank you to Rodney Strong Vineyards for providing some of our prizes!

Yelpmas 4

And what party would be complete without a throwdown for wounded scooter domination and an in-depth discussion about a mysterious Christmas ski lift. Michelle P can fill you in on that. Everyone went home with hot chocolate kits and handmade special edition Christmas mugs from Another Broken Egg. The Salvation Army scored with another mountain of gifts for its toy drive. The generosity of our Elites makes my heart very happy.

Yelpmas 6

Close us out Emily P - "a big shout out to Another Broken Egg Ballantyne for attending to our every need on a night they are not even normally open!" Thank you ABE for everything! And big thanks to the magnificent Tonya P and Poprock Photography. You can find all the pictures here.

Evento Elite 'Trash anni '90'

Posted by Kristina

E invece no...

English Version

We just couldn't finish the year without a back in time party! So we got dressed 90's style and had the best time ever with a trash playlist and great cocktails. Georgette J had a ball: "I loved my ginger concoction - Dario even had vodka infused with ginger, um GENIUS. I was very impressed with every detail at this event, it was casual, it was fun, it was exactly what we needed to celebrate an awesome year before Christmas break. They made a simple bar into the hottest place in town and it was packed the entire time."

Col 90 6

She also loved the wigs, "Luigi 14 did a great job outfitting everyone with fun, colorful wigs that I adore. In fact I might have to pick one up to pretend to be someone else for a day. The Yelp gadgets were really cute socks that I immediately put on the second I got home to my freezing house, thanks Yelp for keeping me warm!"

Col 90 7

Taylor Z loved the atmosphere of Bar Argentina, it was really sweet, I love the neon lights.  It was a little crowded for our event, but we definitely kept warm !  Great pizza from our (my) local pizzeria Pizza Taxi, couldn't ask for a better night. Will be returning to bar ArgenTina I'm sure".

A big thank you to Bar Argentina and all the sponsors that made the event so amazing! You can read the reviews, see all the photos and see what the Yelpers have to say!

Ooo those crafty little critters at E for Ethel really put on a show for our Yelp Elite this Christmas! The buzz and energy of Yelpers remained on a high the whole night as the hungry "creative" was brought out in everyone who attended, even resident foodie, Lee L!

The night before Yelpers Christmas started with sweet tastings of Fresita and their delicious Christmas cocktail with Grand Mariner, fresh lime and cranberry juice to give people a bubble and buzz. Check out the recipe here!

The Hooked On Happy crochet was hung from the Christmas tree with care and dinosaur toys were spread on the table for Play Pieces terrariums to share. Our Front Room badge making attracted the naughty and nice and E for Ethel continue to treat us with sugar and spice!

And it was literally in Act 2, that crafters got their second wind thanks to De Bortoli's La Boheme Act Two Dry Pinot RoseYelp Elite enjoyed as accompianment to their creative ventures on the night but also started plotting Christmas seafood lunches in between their quaffs.

It was such a pleasure to finish off 2013 in a café that fosters creativity, supports its community and encourages Adelaidians to shop local.

¡Navidades en casa! @ Yelp y Knok

Posted by Sharon

Yelp Cleveland Mai Tai's One On @ Porco Tiki Lounge

Posted by Cara

This past Monday night over 50 Yelp Elites Mai Tai'd One On and celebrated the huladaze in paradise, thanks to Porco Lounge & Tiki Room

Bartenders shook up three authentic tiki cocktails for Elites and their guests, starting with the Mai Tai, then a little Pain Killer and finished it off with a steaming Zombie—all adorned with their tiki accessories, of course.

And since you might not be able to walk out of the place after those potent bevs, Porco dished out trays of locally-made sausages, olives, fresh veggies and a sampling of their scratch-made tacos. Tropical treats in the form of mini cupcakes came thanks to Main Street Cupcakes — and were devoured shortly there after.

Porco also invited us to celebrate in the old Catalonia holiday tradition of Tió de Nadal—who is an adorable little holiday log, covered with a blanket that you beat with a stick. Then, surprise! He "deposits" little presents for you to enjoy. In the spirit of this awesome tradition, Elites each got to make mini, pooping Tió ornaments to keep and remind them of how neat it is to be Elite this holiday season! Roxanne O even gushed, "I loved the craft project for the night. I'd never heard of a Tió de Nadal, and the idea of beating the, well, you know what out of a log in order to get presents might be the kookiest thing I've ever heard of. But I love it! "

In addition to our freaky-Yelp-tiki photo opp with Ackey+Z Photography, two of the kookiest dressed Elites won huge prize baskets boasting everything from a wig with elf ears, a leg lamp night light, chocolate coal, giant bubble gum candy canes and free admission to the Great Lakes Science Center!

Thanks again to the folks at Porco Lounge & Tiki Room for hosting us crazies, Main Street Cupcakes for helping us get all sugared up, the gorgeous Katie of Ackey+Z Photography for snappin' us, Yelpterns Jared 'n Russa for all their help, and of course, all you amazing Elites who make everything more fun! P.W. sums it up pretty well: " The highlight was when everybody descended upon the scorpion bowl like a pack of rabid wolves. This morning was a pretty rough one at work. I guess you could say that I got stung by the scorpion and am feeling the venom."

Check all the freaky-tiki photos HERE!!

Read all the event reviews HERE (Feel free to add your own, if you were there!)

Thanks again, guys 'n gals. Until next year,

CMYE: Laugh Your Yelp Off with LYGO DC and Underground Comedy

Posted by Kimberly

Underground Comedy and LYGO DC invited DC Yelpers for an exciting live comedy show at the Bier Baron Tavern  featuring Kara Klenk, Sean Joyce and headliner Jared Logan from Comedy Central Presents!, John Oliver's New York Stand Up Show, Daily Show, and the Colbert Report.

"After a longer-than-expected workday in the lull between holidays, this was exactly what I needed: a moderately offensive comedy show to unwind to," Ruth C confesses. "I'm not exaggerating when I say that the comedians had me in tears," Jamie N adds. "The three comedians were on point from start to finish, and even gave some Yelpy shout outs to the crowd!"

The Bier Baron was the perfect setting for the evening woop fest. "I loved the dive atmosphere of Bier Baron -- low lights with an intimate feel," Mischita H mentions. Yelpers enjoyed Bier Baron's extensive beer list as well as complimentary drinks by event sponsor Kinky Liqueurs. "The free Kinky Liqueurs shots and drinks definitely added to our jovial behavior," Braden J confesses. "I don't think there was ever a time from start to finish that my group wasn't dying of laughter."

Virtual high fives to our amazing event sponsors and to all those who came out and laughed their Yelp off with us. Be sure to check out the reviews of the event, the photos from the amazing Antonio Guerrero, and what folks are saying all over. Have the happiest of holidays and hope to see you in the New Year every Wednesday and Thursday night at Bier Baron for more Lygo DC/Underground Comedy stand up fun!

Yelp's Holiday Posada @El Charro

Posted by Bella

It wouldn't be the holidays in the Old Pueblo without a proper Posada (a Mexican holiday tradition)! And there is no better place to celebrate than at the cities oldest and longest family run establishment– El Charro. Add the Flores clan to the mix and our last elite event of the year was nothing short of a fabulous fiesta!

The unusually cold temps didn't keep Elites and their guests from celebrating in true Yelp style. The colorful patio and bar was exclusively ours for the evening. Luckily we were surrounded by heaters and a fireplace to keep us warm. But let's be real, you know it's going to be a good party when you're greeted at the door with a margarita! The constant flow of sangria, margaritas and Dragoon IPA kept us warm and fuzzy all night long.

El Charro pulled out all the stops for our last Elite event of 2013. Yelpers were treated to an endless parade of traditional treats. Trays of quesadillas and mini-chimis circulated in abundance while yelpers treated themselves to the chips and salsa bar. But that was just the beginning! Yelpers were also treated to a colorful Christmas buffet of red and green tamales, chilaquiles and Posole (a traditional pork and red chile stew).

Mark S sums it up just right:

"Red beef and green corn tamales– muy sabroso.

Chilaquiles– what's better than fried corn tortillas covered with enchilada sauce and cheese and laced with olives? I'll tell you what. Almost nothing except...

Posole–fall-apart-tender chunks of pork with hominy and beans in a spicy broth. Tasty, tasty, tasty.. and PERFECT for a cold winter night."

A churro station with chocolate and carmel dipping sauces was the perfect way to top things off.  Charro5

And what would an Elite event be without making new friends? Elites and their guests bonded over cookie decorating and a friendly game of "Don't say: Christmas Tree, Santa, Gifts." Yelpers kept their eye on the $50 GC prize, but Nali M stole the show and took home the goods. But most importantly, 2013 was a year for new friendships in our blossoming Yelp community!

"This being my first year as a Yelp Elite, I couldn't help but be thankful for the new friends that I have made and the great events that I was able to attend.  This is truly a special community and I can't believe it took me so long to make this part of my life," Trevor C

Charro7"I could not be more thankful and happy to bring my year to an end meeting such great and amazing people," Roger T.

Each guest went home with their very own jar of house made El Charro salsa and a 2014 calendar. And Elites were treated to a special holiday gift– Yelp Elite socks!

A special thanks to El Charro and the Flores Family for such a generous feast, the phenomenal staff that went above and beyond all evening, and to the gracious Pat of Dragoon Brewing for pouring your flagship IPA and schooling yelpers on everything Craft Beer! We felt right at home! We'd also like to congratulate the Flores Family on their newest venture: Hecho En Vegas! Read more about the story here

Another huge and heartfelt thank you to all the Yelpers who came with donations for our holiday toy drive benefiting the Ronald McDonald House of Southern Arizona.

Elites ventured out to Timpanos Italian Chophouse for the 2013 MD Burbs Elite Holiday Party, and what a holiday party it was. Timpanos left no belly unfull as Elites dined on a massive selection of delicious eats.

To name a few: fruit in waffle bowls, a massive crudite Christmas tree, lamp chops, duck confit in phyllo bowls, prosciutto wrapped shrimp, pear sticks, lobster bique, a sausage station… and that's not all. The drinks included spiked apple cider, lemon drops, candy cane cocktails, and of course (old faithful) egg nog. And not to forget desert which included crispy wrapped pear sticks and a tasty caramel pastry. Midway into festivities, 5 large plates of billowing steamy mussels entered the crowd so everyone got to taste one of the Community Manager Mike B's favorite treats at the restaurant.

After Elites got their fill of tantalizing treats, most of the party relocated: “To keep the holday spirit flowing, Christmas carols kicked off at the piano, channeling a number of Yelpers’ inner Mariah Careys and Michael Boltons” quips Benjamin M. Professional musician Gheran Goddard entertained everyone with his piano backup to a number of classic holiday songs.

Timpanos collage 3

Joy to the world indeed, if only the Redskins could have felt a little more of the love coming their way as we sung around the TVs at the bar. Some Yelpers decided to forgoe song time and showed their creative side ala Nikkia G “opted to make a few greeting cards while I was serenaded my many Yelpers caroling at the piano (you don't want me to ruin the party with my voice-trust me). The greeting card station had tons of goodies for me to jazz up my cards---even ribbon!” And then everyone joined forces to play an intense full game of White Elephant (Yankee Swap) gift exchange/steal game. Bottles of prosecco and wine found the hands of many Elites as they were stolen around the room. Some Elites held onto spicy hot sauces as others held on to sweet caramels.

Capturing all this action was James Bullock of James Bullock Photography; a truly talented photographer that was able to keepsake all the magic moments.

The party ended with holiday cards being given out to one and all as well at 30 dollar gift cards from the restaurant to come back with. And with that, the 2013 MD Burbs Elite Squad lay close to a wonderful year of events. Everywhere from Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club, Pyramid Atlantic, 8407 Kitchen Bar, Luke's Lobster, Vino Volo, Cavalia's Oydsseo, to Palette Apartements got a taste of Yelp's Special Crew. Parties continue in January- don't worry! Yelp doesn't skip a beat!

Swanktacular In Ely - Dublin Elite End Of Year Bash!

Posted by Emily C

Swanktacular. Way to describe the event and surroundings, Hazel M

To drink.. Mulled wine and O'Hara's beers. To eat... Fish n chips wrapped in Yelp newspaper, organic Ely burgers, chorizo arancini, topped off with chocolate cake. Throw in... Live jazz followed by some eclectic tunes, cracker pulling, a craft beer talk, cracker swapping, charity gift giving, and even a visit by Santa himself, what a way to celebrate Yelp Dublin in 2013.

Firstly, the surroundings. Ely have recently renovated their waterside pad on Grand Canal Dock to include a cosier bar area upstairs and a very swish restaurant area downstairs.

Sabrina J described the Gastro Bar well; "It lived up to my expectations. The décor is stylish and cosy. This venue would be a great haunt for a pre or post theatre meal as it is only steps away for the Bord Gais Theatre."

Then the food... Emilie A said; "The burger was a great surprise. I'm forever in search of the elusive perfect burger. This one was so simple, you could really taste what was there 100%." Well the meat does come straight from Ely's organic farm Emilie..

Donald P agreed. "Foods and drinks were excellent. Mulled wine on arrival (the best one I have ever had in Ireland), than Chorizo Arancini, mini Organic Beef Burger and the mini leek & Gruyere tart, supreme! Beers from O'Hara's Brewery were like the cherry on top of the cake. The beer I liked the most was the Pale Ale as it was refreshing, easy to drink, with that little bit of bitter hint. Thanks Seamus!"

And the drink... As Donald rightly put it, the event was kindly supported by O'Hara's Craft Beers, who paired each of the bites with one of their Carlow brewed libitations.

Reuben G was equally happy with the inclusion of O'Hara's to the mix; "'The choice of Leann Folláin (the extra stout), one of my favourite beers as a match for the chocolate cake was spot on. Few drinks can complement a chocolate cake but a rich chocolatey extra stout does it wonderfully."

To sum up... "Have to say I was impressed. Not only by the lovely location, the class live band but also by the effort everybody made with dressing up and most importantly the attention to details that Emily put in! This ranged from Mulled Wine as Aperitif over Chrismtas props for photo shoots, Yelp themed paper wrappers for the Fish&Chips and the lovely handwritten Christmas cards that we received." Well said Michael S, well said.

Thanks... to all who came along, to Ely Gastro Bar who pulled out all the stops, and to the Carlow Brewing Company who provided the essential social lubricant.

Roll on 2014 for more free Yelp parties, discovery of unique local businesses, and the exploration of our ever-changing, ever-amazing Dublin city.

Happy Holidays at Hunter's!

Posted by peter d.
Fantastic food + cold weather + hot whiskey cocktails + hospitable service = happiness. Last night, Hunter's proved the truth of that equation when they welcomed in the best of Yelp Brooklyn for an evening of holiday cheer. It couldn't have been a sweeter way to say goodbye to 2013, since from the moment they walked through the door at 213 Smith Street, the NYC Elite felt at home.

It certainly helped that the bar created cocktails with Tub Gin and OYO Wheat Whiskey just for them! According to Ron C, The Sweeney Todd(y) "really hit the spot, coming in from the frigid cold. Warmed you right up." (I hear it's going to be on the menu at Hunter's for a little while longer, and I know I'll be heading back for it.) Deoroop M was down with the Ginny Weasley, a "lovely infusion of Tub Gun, fresh grapefruit and thyme. So refreshing, I literally had to order 4 at once." Not exactly recommended, but do what you've gotta do D-roop...

Great drink needs to be accompanied by great food, and thankfully Hunter's has the latter as well. Matteo R insists "the sliders were perfectly medium-rare, and the crostini plentiful (I particularly enjoyed the ones with goat cheese, leek, and mushrooms)."

The flatbread with pork belly, kale, and sweet potato puree was a surprisingly scrumptiious combination, but perhaps the runaway favorite dish of the evening were the crab cakes. Baramee C swears they are "amazing, delicious, crunchy and very fresh (lots of crab)." If you didn't get enough of their fare, why not check them out on New Year's Eve? There's a sweet prix fixe right here...

Some serious props are in order for Zach and Greg behind the bar; not only did they create those tasty cocktails, but they kept them flowing in the face of almost a hundred thirsty Brooklynites. Of course, Angelo and Panda are equally impressive in the kitchen; the food was fantastic, as it always is at this perfect neighborhood spot. A huge thanks to all of them, as well as Jess and Fer (in absentia) for welcoming us all in with open arms, and wowing us as well.

Whether or not you made it out, make sure to check out the reviews of the event, the photos from the lovely Liz Clayman, and what folks are saying all over. Have the happiest of holidays, and I'll see you in the New Year (at Hunter's and otherwise).

Yelp's VIP Menu Tasting @ Umi Star

Posted by Bella

Last year, Yelp Elite delighted in Umi Stars unique take on fusion fare only weeks after their opening, marking it one of our most memorable events of the year. Since then, Umi Star has made some exciting updates and they invited us back for another sneak peek into the latest and greatest in fresh fish and fusion creations. This time, a small group of Yelpers gathered for an exclusive new menu tasting!

In none other than Umi fashion, yelpers were treated to a diverse spread bursting with exotic flavors.

The Snapper– wrapped around rice, baked with a spicy garlic aioli, chili plum sauce

Spicy Ahi Crunch- off menu special  Umi2

Wasabi Dry Rub & Umi House Wings

Shrimp & Carnitas, local tortillas, red & green housemade salsa

Umi Rolls

Spicy Lobster-crab, spicy lobster, avocado, cucumber, spicy aioli, chili plum sauce, red panko flakes

Tropical Prawn- coconut shrimp, cucumber, topped with tuna, avocado, habanero mango sauce

Veggie Pop- roasted portabella, avocado, Kaiware, sea salt, togorashi basil & cilantro, wrapped in cucumber

Diablo- Spicy tuna, cucumber, avocado, topped with seared red pepper tuna, cilantro-jalapeño lime sauce

Sweets: Umi Churros-Chinese five spice with Nutella chocolate dipping sauce

more photos here.

"I applaud Chef Matt for creating a wonderful new menu that is both tasty and daring. We were served roll after roll, plate after plate, and drink after drink. The hospitality and eagerness to reinvent is palpable from everything we sampled," gushes Shijie F

When Umi Star hit the scene last year, it was primarily known as a sushi joint, but do not be mistaken, their menu makeover goes beyond sushi. Umi is making its mark in the local culinary scene with its Mexican-Asian Fusion inspired food ranging from sushi rolls to tacos, to wings and hot dogs. Their bar program is no slouch either. Their take on classic contemporary cocktails competes with the craft cocktail scene in Tucson. Yelper, Amanda D points out: "I'm from Tucson so yep, I am a fan of the idea of sushi and tacos. I was raving about Umi Star to a friend this past weekend and mentioned the tacos. He thought that was bizarre that they served tacos and sushi, and I think it is brilliant! A little something for everyone, even the non-sushi lovers." We couldn't agree more!

Locals can also look forward Taco Tuesdays, Wing Wednesdays (40 cents all day), daily happy hour and daily off menu specials.

An enormous thank you to Chef Matt and the rockin' team at Umi Star for a decadent evening!

Zürich Elite Event: Fiesta Mexicana

Posted by Simon R

At the last Elite Event of 2013, the Zürich Elites were in for a treat. Escaping the cold, we all gathered at the new Mexican restaurant La Taqueria in Altstetten, which serves real authentic Mexican cuisine. Everyone was greeted with an Agua Fresca, either Horchata (rice water) or Jamaica, a drink with hibiscus. Fresh in-house fried tortilla chips accompanied by fresh Salsa Fresca and real Gucacamole followed, as well as tortillas with rice and beans, a spicy tomato soup and quesadillas al pastor. Aaron, one of the co-founders then told us a bit more about Mexican cuisine and even came up with a quiz, where the Yelpers could win free tacos. We from Yelp also had prepared some christmas specials, such as the Yelp-cookies and the Yelp tree ornaments for the christmas tree. It was an amazing night celebrating an amazing Elite year in Zurich that's coming to and end. Thanks so much to Aaron and Jana from La Taqueria for the delicious treats as well as to Mikkel H for the photos of the event.

Yelp Gets Cast Away at Nick's Riverside

Posted by Kimberly

Yelp Elites were treated to spectacular views of the Georgetown waterfront while dining on a six-course chef tasting menu with wine pairings at Nick's Riverside, a local family owned restaurant dishing up classic American fare.

"This was an intimate affair and Nick's staff treated us like royalty," Alexis B shared. Yelpers dined on a specially curated menu that included French onion soup, grilled Malpeque oyster, arugula salad, sautéed black bass with black figs, zucchini ribbons and preserved lemon butter sauce, a grilled trio of meat including veal, duck breast and lamb chops, a white bean casserole, holiday cookies and petit fours. "The sauteed black bass was delicious - I could have eaten that all day. I'm pretty sure this is the point in the meal where I regretted not wearing stretchy pants," Jamie N repors.

To get in the holiday spirit, the group participated in a White Elephant gift exchange where guests were asked to wrap up their holiday cast aways. "I won Suzy a Muscle Milk protein bar... I hope she plans on lifting weights some time soon!" shares Victoria B.

And that's not all! All Elites left with a potted succulent courtesy of Yelp as well as a goodie bag featuring a Nick's Riverside $10 gift certificate and beautiful handmade holiday cookies courtesy of the chef.

To read what Elites are saying about the event you can check out the reviews. Our official photo album is up on the Yelp DC Facebook page, thanks to David Dang. Thanks to Nick's Riverside for sending us off into the holiday season with one seriously swanky soiree!

Until then...SYOY,

Yelp Austin Pulls off a Major Surprise!

Yelp’s Secret Stash @ Handlebar

The Austin Yelp Elite community gathered on Wednesday night to celebrate the amazingness of their Community Director, Kelly S. They pulled off one of the greatest heists in history - a surprise event in honor of Kelly! Amanda M sums it up quite nicely, “I loved that we were able to surprise Kelly because most of the time she's the one surprising us.”

Surprise collage1

Thanks to Handlebar for hosting us and letting us take over their rooftop patio! Alicka K thought “the bartenders here were friendly and fun” and was pretty excited about a certain item on the roof, “they have an adult size see-saw! If you don't have fun, then you need another drink.”

Surprise Collage2

Thanks to Deep Eddy and Dos Equis for providing us with some great drink specials. As Courtney W put it, “Deep Eddy, I love you and your Ruby Red vodka.” Delish was on hand with their tasty treats. Alicia K said “The millionaire bar is priceless and the cream cheese frosting in the red velvet was divine.”

Surprise collage 4

Jennifer Byers Photography and On the Flipside Photo Booth were on hand to capture it all while DJ Dolomike helped get everyone’s booty shakin’. Heather F said, “Mike L did a great job playing DJ as Dolomike, On the Flip Side had a photo booth set up with awesome props PLUS the always amazing Jennifer Byers had her camera and was taking candids all night”.

Surprise Collage 3

It was a great night. We are so glad the Yelp Austin Community could show our appreciation for the great Kelly S. The guest of honor had this to say “5 stars for all of you guys.  Being a part of this group is so much more than a job. It's a vocation, a privilege and a family. At the end of the day, each of you enrich my life and make everything worth it. Thank you.”

Yelp SF Elite Izakaya Kou de Yelp 2013

31 events this year and it was 31 that topped off 2013 with class. Izakaya Kou hosted a communal dining experience for lucky elites and guests for the last Elite event of the year. The four course evening left the taste of being Elite with the guests in family-style fashion. Sapporo beer, Segura Viudas Brut welcomed the guests, then Ceccheti & Windrun wines through the dinner, along with housemade cocktails, paired with the traditional Japanese dinner.

Yelp SF Elite Celebrate 80 Years of Prohibtion Repealed

Some have Thanksgiving, others have National Grilled Cheese Day, for the SF Elite it's the 80th anniversary of the repeal of prohibition. Raising money for the SF Historical Society, Elites and guests came dressed as either their favorite SF icon (hello there Brown Sisters, Bruce Lee & Fog) or in speakeasy-era attire.

Entering in the historic Burritt Alley, down a few flights of stairs through the back door they found a private room with the live jazz by Dillan Rider Group and libational revelry. From the Burritt Room + Tavern's kitchen came true American food, from deviled eggs to hamburgers and crab cakes.

Berlinetta Lounge, while private, opens on Friday nights for their Berlinetta Playlist nights featuring craft cocktails by the aforementioned Brian & Mo.

Michelangelo S takes it away:

"There was booze aplenty because what else would you expect from a Prohibition-busting celebration? The libations included revolutionary ales by Sam Adams, Boston Beer & Angry Orchard cider, cocktails by Gruppo Campari, such as Wild Turkey 101, Espolon Tequila, Appleton Rum & an array of Campari cocktails. And besides an amazing assortment of various wine & beer, there was also cocktails concocted at the lounge by Bartenders Brian & Mo.  These amazing creations included tonight drinks from the Prohibition Speakeasy times, such as:

(1)  The Hot Hazel Nut Rum cocktail - Appleton Rum, Chai Tea, Nutella & Butter Compote;

(2)  The Cee-Lo-Ever-Green - Rosemary & Thyme INFUSED-Tequila, with Lemon, Yellow Chartruese and Dolin Blanc;

(3)  The Santa-Hattan - Wild Turkey 101, Pear Liquor, Carpano Antiqua, Madiera and Peychaud Bitters;

(4)  The Amer-i-can - Compari, Cocchi Rose, Crème De Cacao, and soda water;

(5)  The Long Neck Lucky Draw - Sam Adams, Hard Ciders and other bottled goodness brews.

Tonight's awesome celebration of Constitutional Correction was hosted by the Berlinetta Lounge ("Belinetta" is Italiano for "Little Saloon") inside Burritt Room & Tavern on the Grand Lobby Floor of the wondrous Mystic Hotel near Union Square hood.  And all for a great cause: to support the work & mission of the San Francisco Historical Society that provides much of the cultural framework that makes this beautiful city so sought after by millions of people worldwide."

More on the venue host:

Like a private club, guests at Charlie Palmer's Burritt Room + Tavern located in the Mystic Hotel enjoy handcrafted cocktails and modern tavern cuisine in a sophisticated speakeasy environment. The film-noir inspired bar and restaurant - named after Burritt Alley in The Maltese Falcon - features walled-in and curtained booths, creating dark corners for intimate socializing and enjoying the creative, seasonal menu from Chef Luke Knox. Select menu items include White Truffle Risotto with Shaved Urbani White Truffle; Chicken Liver Tartine with Mushroom Conserva and Poached Persimmons; and Quince-Braised Beef Short Rib with River Dog Farms Sugar Pie Pumpkin.

Berlinetta Lounge (Italian for "little saloon") is San Francisco's premier event space, embodying both classic charm and modern sophistication. Located on the lobby floor, the Lounge offers a versatile canvass for private soirees that feature expertly-mixed cocktails and outstanding culinary offerings from Burritt Room + Tavern. Continuing in 2014, the Lounge will serve as the location for Berlinetta Playlist - a weekly event taking place every Friday, featuring local DJs, punchbowl bottle service sponsored by Belvedere, and small bites from Chef Luke.

Yelp's Totally Bazaar Hosted By SILO In Makers Quarter!

It wouldn’t be the holidays in San Diego without a local holiday shopping party that we like to call, Yelp's Totally Bazaar. This was a joint effort by two Yelp communities (San Diego and North County San Diego), organizing a memory-filled evening for nearly 1,000 Yelpers, vendors and guests at SILO in Makers Quarter. This one-night celebration of everything local SD included plenty of eats, drinks and entertainment, while some of the best local artisans set up shop for locals to get some festive shopping done and explore what this great city has to offer.

In the words of Yelp Elite Jeff S, "it was a beautiful night in the East Village, the night was cool and clear, the street was lined with anxious Yelpers waiting to gain entrance to the bazaar in order to indulge in great local food and merchandise vendors. It was sure to be another great night to be downtown. Outside events are so cool."

Bazaar1 No Yelp party is complete without festive drinks, delicious food and entertainment to make it a night to remember. We had complimentary bites from generous community-minded businesses including Bub's At The Ballpark, Devine Pastabilities, Harney Sushi, Luche Libre Gourmet Taco Shop, Luna Bar, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Pretzel Crisps, Puesto, Red Oven Pizza, Royal India, San Diego Paella, Slater's 50/50, and Spike Africa's. On the booze tip, Lorimar Winery and Aztec Brewery made spirits bright, James Coffee Co was full of festive feelings, and cheery thanks to our good friends at Alchemy and their crafty cocktail skills. Bazaar2
Bazaar3And of course there was shopping... lots of it! The space was twinkling with lights, merry making and the shop-ortunities abounded with more than 30 vendors. Community artisans and some of the coolest cats living in SD from http://Etsy.com came offline to sell their creations in real life! For a full list of who came and sold awesome local goods check out links here. Bazaar6 Bazaar7 Bazaar8
Providing a break from the ho ho hooplah was our Christmas Tree decorating competition: It was glam vs grunge with Fashion Week San Diego and North County's House Of Motorcycles going head to head in a jolly battle. The winner is.... drumroll please! Fashion Week San Diego! You can see their winning creation here! Bazaar5

We got the warm and fuzzies by supporting the San Diego Hunger Coalition through our raffle. We're excited to report we raised over $1,200! Each gift bag won was worth over $200 and full of local gifts and treats from our partners. Speaking of gifts, the on site free wrapping station was courtesy of 6 Degrees San Diego! A Yelp event would not be complete without our dear friend DJ Noel 2033 spinning the yuletide cheer and our BFF's from The Fotobox provided the winter wonderland of a photo booth: Better than a Christmas card! Bazaar8 Bazaar9
Ben S' take on the event: "This event embodied everything that Yelp is about! Locals enjoying everything that local businesses have to offer, right in their own backyards." And for that, thanks to Silo in Makers Quarter, the East Village Association, everyone behind the scenes and of course all of YOU who helped to make this event a massive success! Click the following links to see all the Picutres snapped by ace photographer Jonothan Bagalso and to read all of the glowing Reviews from the evening!

From the bottom of our lil' Yelpy hearts, we thank you!

Bollywood Chic @Maurya Organic Indian Lounge

Posted by Philippine

And. So. We. Did...

Ooooh. Ooooh...  Amazing food, decor and compaby!.jpg

Martine H (Most Promising Yelper for 2014), Nick F (Buiten de Ring Yelper - hij woont in Haarlem), Kim V (Treasure Hunt Yelper), Karin M (Yelp Amsterdam's Golden Oldie), Asia L (Best Photographer), Diane N (Foodie Specialist), Thom M (Most Funny Review Writer) en Jacky P (Wicked App User)!

---------------- IN ENGLISH ----------------

Maurya Organic Indian Lounge is absolutely a fantastic, Indian restaurant in Amsterdam and proved to be the perfect location for our last Elite Event of 2013! The Yelp Amsterdam Elites were treated to amazing Indian food, Yelper Awards and exciting Bollywood dancing!

We can definitely recommend Maurya as they're truly a unique Indian restaurant in the city; they import all the herbs, spices, and produce directly from India! Furthermore, they're exclusively using organic ingredients and produce AND they have Taj-group chef... Literally, it's a recipe for success! They opened their doors expecially for us on this Sunday afternoon, December 15th to try out their menu. And oh how we enjoyed it! The beautiful Vartika learned us Bollywood Dancing moves, the food was extraordinary and the biggest surprise of the evening: the Yelper Awards! Thirty-four Yelper were nominated in 8 different categories and the winners are.... Martine H (Most Promising Yelper for 2014), Nick F (Yelpin' Outside Amsterdam - he lives in Haarlem), Kim V (Treasure Hunt Yelper), Karin M (Yelp Amsterdam's Golden Oldie), Asia L (Best Photographer), Diane N (Foodie Specialist), Thom M (Most Funny Review Writer) en Jacky P (Wicked App User)! Congratulations dear Elites - well deserved! So you better follow these guys on Yelp... They know what they're talking about!

Don't forget our dear Alli K, Ana C, Dorry E, Bec L, Floor R, Frank A, Guido D, Guy C, Jason D, Jen M, John G, Justyna D, Maarten D, Rachelle Y, Sara K, Saurabh G, Susy A, Thamar N (you are funny), Tim A, and Vincent J - and all the other Amsterdam Elites that weren't able to attend yesterday, you have made Yelp Amsterdam truly A-MA-ZING in the past year and I'm so grateful that you're part of the Amsterdam Elite Squad!!

Special thanks goes to Raj and Maurya: your restaurant and food are amazing! Read the reviews and look at the magnificent photos, made by none other than our Yelper Nick Jonkman and Elite Asia Liu! Second, I'd like to thank Vartika once more for teaching us her Bollywood moves!

See you in 2014 fantastic Elites!.jpg

Kansas City Yelpers Sip and Shop at Yelp's Honkytonk Holiday Bazaar

Posted by Matt

A little bit of cold weather couldn't stop Kansas Citians from celebrating the season in true Yelp Style! Over 200 guests braved the elements and came to Knuckleheads for Yelp's Honkytonk Holiday Bazaar! Literally on the other side of the tracks, guests enjoyed food, drink and shopping, all to the sounds of passing trains and local rockabilly superstars Miss Major and her Minor Moodswings. And thanks to the guests' generous donations, we raised $1000 in cash and over $2000 worth of new toys, all for The Children's Place

Under the tents provided by Accent Special Event Rental was an open-air market that Katherine D said transported her to "the Christmas Markets of Europe, where you can purchase all manner of crafty things, foodstuffs, and gifts." Representing KC's thriving artisan and local business scene were Mills Record Company, Mash Handmade, BIKLOPS, Haberdash: Wit + Style, Papillon Kate, Wood + Salt, Owl & Mouse, Two Tone Press, Lost & Found Jewelry, Nice Save, DesignbyMindy, Our Sassy Pantry, Nairobi House, Santeé Massage, Bobby Boot Leggers, Boulevard Dry Goods and more!

The local brewing and distilling communities kept everybody happy everybody as they shopped up a thirst. Hometown heroes Boulevard Brewing Company provided their signature Wheat and Pale Ale brews, while Springfield's Mother's Brewing Company served up their brown ale, Three Blind Mice. Sway Vodka concocted a delicious holiday punch that Daniel K called "Fruity Pebbles with a little bam-bam," while SD Strong served up their Strong Breeze, complete with fresh rosemary! And Dark Horse Distillery kept everybody toasty with warm with their bourbon-spiked cider and hot buttered rye!

Keeping a hungry Yelper's belly full is no easy task, but two fantastic venues stepped up to the plate. Chickhoovenswine kept everybody happy with plates of their award-winning rib tips and burnt ends that Courtney L declared "perfect and tender"! And Providence New American Kitchen wowed Yelpers with a delicious smoked salmon appetizer, while spreading the word about their awesome Christmas Eve and Christmas prix fixe menues!

Of course, if there's a party and nobody take pictures, did it really happen? We weren't about to find out! Guests were first greeted by the Selfie Station. Hilarious prop-filled pics taken with your own phone? That was a concept that Logan Locke B says "induced tons and tons of laughter" among her friends. For a more professional product, Framelss Photograhy snapped some seriously silly shots, then photoshopped in hilarious holiday backgrounds. And of course, we have to thank the evening's roaming photographer Chris Mullins, who made sure to capture the action on stage, behind booths and under the heat lamps!

As the year comes to a close, I want to take a moment to thank all of the vendors that made not only The Honkytonk Holiday Bazaar a success, but also all of the great Yelpy gatherings of 2013. Whether we're dishing on new restaurants, scoping out shops or raising funds for a great cause, I always enjoy my time with KC's Yelp Community. And keep your eyes peeled in 2014, because the fun's just going to get bigger and better!

Happy Holidays,

Yelp Indy's Jingle Rail Rock!

Posted by Brittany

For Indy's final elite party of the year, we chugg-a chugg-a choo'ed through the United States at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art in their annual Jingle Rails Exhibit which features several U.S cities and natural landmarks in mini form all crafted using natural materials ranging from stone and pinecones to sticks and leaves.

WIth over 75 elites and their families, we gathered over 150 toys, books, art supplies and goodies to donate to Riley Children's Hospital to benefit their Cheer Guild which passes them onto children currently being treated there.

Sipping on coffee from Mile Square Coffee Roastery and savoring Cowboy Chili from Kahn's Catering really set the mood for one of Indy's newest businesses, Whoopie Pies, and their delectable sweet treats!

Yelpers enjoyed mulled cider topped with a dollop of whipped cream complements of Fountain Square's New Day Meadery while nibbling on goodies from German bakery and restaurant, Heidelberg Haus.

At the end of the night, all attendees were holiday ready and in good cheer!

Yelpfully yours until next time,
