Yelp New Orleans Elites Love To Wine
The weather couldn’t have been any more perfect for an outing on the Northshore for a handful of New Orleans Elites seeking wine to sip and cheese to savor while learning about our local grape-growing buddies at the Wine In The Vines Elite Soiree hosted by Pontchartrain Vineyards in Bush, Louisiana. Despite the hour drive from our home, Robert B found the day trip to be well worth it! “What a great idea to get out of the city and travel to what is likely the closest vineyard to NOLA.”
Lincoln Case, director of Pontchartrain Vineyards, and his lovely assistant Cindy welcomed the Elites to the picturesque vineyards where they received their Yelp satchel of goodies including Oloves, a handy cork screw, fans for a nice breeze, and Yelp ponchos, just in case! The Elites were taken on an informative tour of the vineyard starting at the vine and making their way back to the wine in the cozy tasting room where they each were set up with 5 specialty cheeses (including fresh chevres, a feta, and two types of cheddar) from the boys down at Rocking R Dairy, and a delicious slice of dark chocolate to pair with six of the Pontchartrain Vineyard wines.
While Elites followed along in their Wine In The Vine handy dandy booklets, Cindy explained the history of each of the wines, the different traits, and the best food pairings. Elites nibbled and sipped their way through the wines starting with Le Trolley, a dry white Blanc Du Bois, paired with a Rocking R Dairy's garlic fresh chevre and ended with the perfect desert wine, Port of New Orleans, paired with the dark chocolate bite. Roger B, an Elite and frequenter of vineyards across the continent, found the pairing of cheese and wine with a side of Yelp friends to be the perfect way to spend his Saturday along with his wife Peggy. Following the tasting was a cork-popping quiz where winners received a wine carrying coozie, wine tasting notebook and a Pontchartrain Vineyard wine of their choice. Congratulations to Robert B, Larissa C and Greg M for their vino victories!
I would like to thank Bill Sr., Bill Jr., and Blake Ryals from Rocking R Dairy for donating the phenomenal cheese made at their 4th generation dairy out in Tylertown, Mississippi. Also a warm thank you to Lincoln and Cindy from Pontchartrain Vineyards for being wonderful hosts for my first Elite Event! Relive our adventures through the great reviews and photos posted on the event page and Flickr! And as always, I loved seeing the NOLA Elites and can't wait to see you soon!
