Yelp Miami Doubles Down

Posted by Johnny Todd

What’s better than one? Two. If you answered that correctly, give yourself a cookie. If you’re a member of the Yelp Miami Elite Squad, however, you could give yourself a day of delectable Mexican eats, addicting margaritas, LED-screens full of gorgeous scenery and chewy pulp fiction, and larger than life luchadores. Oh, and don’t forget the paletas! What was an ordinary Saturday for most turned into Yelp’s Dos Por Uno thanks to Haven Gastro-Lounge and Huahua’s Taqueria.

Everyone knows that Haven is SoBe’s go-to gastro-lounge full of nitro cocktails, inventive seafood and wraparound LED screens. You might not know that the same man behind the food at Haven take it to the streets (of Mexico) in Huahua’s kitchen. Combining the interactive venue of Haven with the food of Huahua’s gave ecstatic Elites an opportunity to enjoy both places like few others have done.

And, that enjoyment started with food and drink. Elites walked in to find platters of homemade chips and plenty of dips (salsa, guacamole and queso). Appetites whetted, next up to feast on were decadently adorned Elote Halves. Minds were then blown by bowls of piping hot Queso Mac (& Cheese). You can't go to Huahua's without going taco crazy and guests got straight loco on Fried Chicken, Shrimp and Carnitas Tacos. And how does one wash down some gastronomically great grub? Margaritas. Seriously. Elites thought they knew margaritas before. They.had.no.idea. Packed with punch and flavor, these margaritas made it okay to fiesta any day of the week.

There was also a feast for the eyes. The vibrant colors of Mexico popped off the bar thanks to chile-rubbed lollipops (in mango, watermelon and corn flavor). In the visual version of surround sound, Elites gawked at visions of street scenes, nature vistas and the pulpiest of Mexican fiction thanks to the LED-magic of Ricardo, Haven’s tech wizard. But what’s tech + Mexican without luchadores? We don’t know either because Haven walls transformed into underground lucha rings where Elites went at it — virtually — in the alter egos of their new favorite luchadores. Spent, there was only one thing left to do: eat paletas. As a benefit of checking in, guests enjoyed a paleta of their choice direct from Huahua’s. Need the visuals? Check out Alex H’s photos here. Hasta Luego,
