Spooky Sushi: An Elite Halloween Bash!

Posted by Kendall

On Tuesday October 29th, Elite Yelpers met at the fantastic and ever-impressive Little Lilly Sushi for a Halloween affair to remember. Sarath P described the event as "an amazing night with great food, awesome costumes, and fantasic people!" It was her "first time at Little Lilly," and she'll "definitely be back for more."

The star of the evening was an incredible and unique menu prepared specifically for the event by Head Chef Jesus Garcia. Viralyn K "loved the awesome spooky twists on traditional Japanese classics!" Chef Garcia and the Little Lilly team served us spicy edamame, Zombi Goyoza, Kraken Balls, Spooky Ramen, Nijimasu Nigiri and Sashimi, Spicy Salmon Maki, Jozen Pink Sake, and Kona Brewery Fire Rock Pale Ale... OH MY! Tim L enjoyed "the Zombie Gyoza" which "had a unique flavor profile... I really loved how there was pumpkin in there!" And Gerald W "quickly overcame" his "fears of eating octopus, mackerel eyes, chicken hearts and feet, and so much more!"

Elites paraded about in costumes, ate wickedly wonderful food, won prizes, and left with a sweet treat (Reena D "loved the goodie bags we received" and "can't wait to rock" her "new pair of Elite Socks!"). All in all, the evening "combined two" of Lauren S's "favorite things: Halloween and sushi!" Ted W said Little Lilly's "staff ran like a well-oiled machine and didn't skip a beat; and the chef kept pumping out food. Such a bonus!"

Zandra E was "over the moon to have tried new foods and had a great experience." To get a closer look, be sure to check out all the awesome Spooky Sushi reviews, and take a peek at the amazing photos as well!

See you next time, Elites!

Yelp's Dias De Los Muertos Party At Senorita's

Posted by Stephanie

"Tequila, mexican food, more tequila! what more can you ask for?" Agreed Jae L. Last night over 70 local Yelpers and friends came out to Yelp's Dias De Los Muertos Party at Bloomfield's Senorita's. With a buffet of Mexican inspired bites, a Karma Tequila tasting and a drink or two, this costume party was super fun!
Neal N noshed on the Southwestern spring roll, the pork mole and "the bbq pork bun was definitely a nice spin on a Chinese favorite." And although many were sippin' on the margs, Lynn B found the Karma tequila tasting very very cool. "Even though there were only two varieties to sample, it was interesting distinguishing the taste difference. It's amazing that two tequilas can taste so different."

Thanks Senorita's and Happy Halloween!

OTP's Paint, Drink and Be Spooky Elite event at Pinot's Palette!

Posted by HeidiP

What do you get when you combine Halloween, paint, and wine and snacks?  Some creepily, awesomely artistic Yelpers!

Daniel B compliments, "What a fun and different Yelp event. Heidi continues to think up new and interesting things for us to do and it's nice that it involves engaging activities other than just hanging out, eating and drinking."

Everyone's inner Van Gogh came out this evening, minus the ear cutting, although that may have been appropriate for the scary season..

Yelpers mixed in at Pinot's Palette in Duluth to Paint, Drink and Be Spooky. The subject of the evening was a wicked tree silhouette in the foreground, with a feather-raising owl perched, and some menacing haunted houses in the back, set off by a sinister orange sky at dusk. "Its amazing how fast the picture comes together," Karie H hollers (spookily). "Within a couple hours we were adding the final touches, taking the class photos, and cleaning up. It's so much fun to walk around and even though each one of us did the same picture, not a single one is the same."

Indeed, not every Yelper decided to go the same route, which made for a disturbingly exciting evening. Brent H noted, "I enjoyed this event, even though the instructor thought the monkey I painted was a mouse.  But that's just silly.  Why would a mouse be in a tree?" Tanya C added, "I've really gotten into painting lately, but I'm crappy at it.  So I just do my own thing when I go to these types of places.  I usually get weird looks from people, but not here.  The instructor encouraged us to not stress and do what we want."

Yelpers enjoyed Halloween candy, chips and dips, creepy cookies and adorably gruesome little mice and spiders looking on. At the end of the evening, everyone signed a specially made painting of a Yelp burst, for Pinot's Palette. Tammi D admitted, "I am no artist, but when I left, I felt very proud of what I had created." All in all, a delightfully freaky evening!

MD Burbs Elites Finish Oversized Paella In Record Time

Posted by Mike Bishop

This past Monday Elites in the Maryland Burbs got to, in true Elite style, be spoiled to a diverse tasting of celebrity chef Jose Andre’s delectable treats at Yelp's Jaleo Jalloween Party. Jaleo Bethesda opened up its tall glass doors and newly renovated digs to an eclectic group of costume covered Yelpers. Elite’s got not only a taste of top tapas, but a taste of Jaleo's new modern clean feel.

Margaret Z found, “The special cocktails of the night delicious - [she] loved the hints of pumpkin and apple.” The apple cider drink, the barteders aptly named the "Incider" quenched the palettes of party goers while they enjoyed fall themed themed fun. With games like the Celebrity Chef Cauldron Game and Zombie Movie Picture Quiz, Elites released their inner child while dining on classy adult passed tapas and an inordinate amount of Jalloween candy.  “Dessert was amazing - I don't even consider myself a fan of custards, but that flan was mind-blowingly yummy,” continues Margaret Z

The stage was really set and stolen by a Paella pan the size of a baby pool, a large hula hoop, or the clock face of Big Ben.  Yelpers really just ate it up. No but seriously, they ate it all up in record time.

A paella pan sized thank you to our wonderful organizer Lydon, photographer Keon De Roche, the Jaleo team, and my trusty helpers who led captivating Jalloween games!

Yelp Detroit's Ladies' Night Glam Jam at Douglas J. Aveda Institute

Posted by Annette

Last week, 25 lucky ladies from the Yelp Detroit elite squad were treated to one heck of a ladies’ night! The Douglas J Aveda Institute in Royal Oak opened their doors and lined up 3 hours worth of treatments for our grateful gals.

As the ladies entered they were greeted by Douglas J Aveda staff who paired them with a student of their very own to pamper them through the evening. A nice mug of warm tea was delivered as they toured the beautiful facilities then made their way to enjoy complimentary blow outs, make-up touch ups, mini manicures and pedicures, plus hand massages and chair massages!

In between services, ladies were welcome to come down to the lobby to enjoy snacks, a boozy punch, and a shopping spree with pop-up shops from local jewelry designer LilacPop Studio and clothing boutique Posh In Plum who brought by some fancy new fall fashions to help freshen the looks from head to toe.

At the end of the night, the gals were treated to a goody bag filled with Aveda products including body washes, lotions, and hair repair treatments, plus $10 off coupons for return services! If that wasn’t enough, each gal had a consultation with their scent specialists who helped them blend the perfect scent for them to take home.

A multitude of thanks go out to Cher Jay, Alyssa, and the entire staff and students at the Douglas J Aveda Institute for making this the ultimate in indulgence! A round of applause also goes to Janna Coumoundouros of LilacPop Studios and Rachel Gutierrez from Posh in Plum for setting up their fancy wares. Thanks are also due to yelptern Chelcie W (and her awesome momma Sheri) for helping plan the event and the wonderful refreshments, Doug Coombe for documenting the evening, and of course, all of our lovely ladies for joining us that evening.

Want to know more? Photos from the evening can be found here and you can read all the gushing, 5 star reviews, over yonder.

Until the next one,

Yelps Profilfotoshooting bei Karin Ahamer

Posted by Andreas R

Andreas R

October’s Elite Event lead us to Karin Ahamer’s appartment and fotostudio. Everybody had a lot of fun on the misson of renewing their profile pictures. A ton of funny props and Yelp requisites helped a lot with engaging in the pro-fotoshoot. Karin Ahamer did an excellent job as you can take from the pics. Nobody had to leave hungry due to the lovely canapees served or thirsty because there was enough Prosecco and beer to get the crowd into model-mood. One lucky Yelper even won a special beauty fotoshooting with Karin and the others left with nice discount card as well as happy faces.

Posted by Lolo R.

Last Tuesday around eighty Yelpers were waiting —as real zombies— at the doors of Home Burger Bar to treat themselves with a burger apocalypse that would start the Yelp Madrid Burger Tour, a tasty initiative where a bunch of Yelpers will try to find the best burger in Madrid.

Apoc 4Ana C was a little bit lost when she saw a few zombies guarding the entrance, but she couldn't hold herself when she realized that the members of the Elite Squad had the chance to get her own make-up, thanks to Daniel and Wioleta. She ran downstairs like crazy "asking the make-up artists to fill me up with blood. BLOOD!!!". Eugenio S wasn't that adventurous, so he decided to stay near Charo "SUPER-CHARO, my favourite worker in the Home Burger, which, by the way it's in my burger top 5 in Madrid, at the top of the list!". Borja A adores those burgers as well. "the Caprese was my personal favourite, thanks to the combination of juicy meat, Provolone cheese, dryed tomato, and arugula, but since Tuesday's tasting it's going to be hard to choose!".

Apoc 5Juan D thinks that man does not live by bread (and meat) alone, so he also has great words for all the Biolandia products he could taste. "I loved them, and as a bio fan, I've been taking a look to their website to make an order sooner than later". Raquel T recognizes that she was a little bit scared for her first time at an Elite Event, but she did relax as soon as she saw a Vetus wine from Bodegas Izadi from Toro. She fell in love inmediately!

Apoc 7Don't forget to leave us your review of the event, take a look at the pictures, and follow us on FacebookTwitter and Instagram to know more about our next events. Are you craving for more? See if you have what it takes to be a member of the Elite Squad!

Yelp's Flood Relief Fundraising Dinner!

On October 24th, Yelp Denver was fortunate enough to team up with Denver Urban Gardens and coordinate a successful fundraising event in support of the DeLaney Community Farm and DUG after the traumatic September Floods that hit the Northwest region of Colorado.

The Flood Relief dinner raised $2,700 that will go to support food security programming like WIC shares (for low-income women with very young children) at DeLaney Community Farm. Since the floods and hail wiped out their fields early, Denver Urban Gardens wasn't able to hold farm stands that would have raised money for those programs in the spring. The Flood Relief Fundraising dinner was able to raise enough funds for the DeLaney Community Farm that will help support 12 families throughout next year.

From the delicious food provided and cooked onsite by Steuben's, Ace Eat Serve, and Vesta Dipping Grill to the fun photo booth courtesy of Chipper Booth, and tasty River North Brewing beer and Deep Eddy Cocktails - everything was fabulous and well received. When Jennifer B found out "Yelp was co-hosting a Flood Relief Fundraiser she was immediately ready to come and support our local business in need." Among all the delicious food, her favorites "consisted of the sausage appetizer with whole grain mustard, the crispy pork belly with apricot preserves," which were "perfection." So good in fact, "more than a couple of them went back for seconds, thirds if she's honest." But "the whole fish definitely stood out as a table favorite."

DeLaney Community Farm is Denver Urban Gardens' nonprofit community supported agriculture (CSA) project in Aurora. The mission of the farm is to provide fresh, healthy food to people in need, while modeling organic growing practices and community-based farming for students of all ages and backgrounds.

PicCollage3In mid September, the same storms that devastated communities across the Front Range brought hail and flooding to DeLaney, causing significant damage to the farm's crops and infrastructure. Through DeLaney's WIC and Community Partner Share programs, hundreds of in-need seniors, adults, and children rely on DeLaney as their source for fresh food. The support of the guests and incredible sponsors will get DeLaney Community Farm back on the road to recovery, and ensure that these important food security programs are not interrupted for the members of our community that need them the most!

Thanks again to the most wonderfully talented chefs, the devoted DUG volunteers, Deep Eddy Vodka for providing fun spirits, River North Brewing for the perfect paired dinner, but more importantly – thank you for all the guests that supported such imperative cause. Until next time, Denver,

Yelp Sydney's Idea Bomb Elite Event

Posted by Ben B.

WeCo, a super boss collaborative co-working space in Edgecliff, made the perfect ground zero for our idea bomb event. Normally home to a family of funky freelancers and exploratory work-from-homers, this night it hosted a bunch Yelpers who all turned up physically and mentally hungry.

Collage 1

From the outset guests proceeded to get Trolley’d. Aviator-swinging, shot-slinging pilots-cum-barmen Chris and Byron serve organic cocktails using native ingredients from recycled airline trolleys, and they damn sure made sure the party had well and truly landed with vodkas infused with mandarin and lemon myrtle, and peach stone, orange blossom and earl grey tea served from their recycled airline trolleys, before creating a drink they dubbed the Ginger Ninja using a giant mason jar of chilli-infused butterscotch schnapps.

Collage 2

As a saying we just made up goes, “A full mind needs a full stomach”, so lucky there was a raft of pizza on hand, along with literal reams of salted caramel, creamy bacon and nacho cheese-flavoured popcorn served in Yelp popcorn bags.

Collage 3

The back corner hosted a take-one, leave-one book exchange, the whiteboard wall became a repository of Yelpers’ favourite books, movies and TV shows, and a big, bad, bacon-infused vodka was dished up to all and sundry in take-home Yelp shot glasses.

Collage 4

Then it was time to dim the lights and hit the couches for a screening of Connected: An Autobiography about Love, Death and the Internet, a Sundance Film Festival selection by the creator of The Webby’s, the Oscars of the Internet which limits award winners to 5-word speeches. Don’t want to brag (we totally do), but Yelp has twice won Webby’s, check out our acceptance speeches here and here!

Collage 5

For the coup de grace – like that was even necessary – Elites left with $50 Uber credit and free WeCo co-working vouchers, and the raffle winner scored a pair of VIP tickets to The Great Big Christmas Lawn Party, which benefits the Eniwe African Children’s Fund.

Want more?

Elite Event: Yelp's Movie Night At iPic

Posted by Heli M.

Who says Mondays have to be a drag? They certainly don't for the lucky Yelp Dallas Elites who attended last Monday's Elite Event: Yelp's Movie Night at iPic Theater. Walking in, it was hard not be immediately impressed by the swanky chic style of the SALT Lounge. Add in passed appetizers, premium cocktails, and a 3-course prixe fixe menu and these Yelpers had a perfect start to the week!

Yelp Elites were invited to indulge on an array of "butlered hors d' oeuvres (curried chicken skewers, lime steak skewers, and flatbread), all equally delicious. iPic was nice enough to reserve an entire section so that Yelpers could mingle before the movies," observed Keli M.

Next, Yelp Elites headed to their respective theaters where they got an exclusive screening of either Gravity or Captain Phillips. Not only were both movies great choices, but the seats were unbelievably spacious and comfortable. "The movie screens are large and very clear. Tim L. "appreciated how they adjusted the noise level so the movie wasn't too loud or too soft. The seats were amazing... by far the best seats he's ever sat on in a theater. Not only do they recline, but they are super soft.  They also provide you with a small pillow and blanket."

And as if the seats weren't enough to put you to sleep, the endless generous supply of candy, popcorn, and prix fixe 3-course meal certainly tempted many Elites to do so! "When I got the email confirmation for the event, it said, come hungry. I believe it should have been worded, come famished. So much food, and then some! Not even complaining because everything was delicious!" teases Malia R.

All around it was a perfect way to relax and unwind in iPic's luxurious, unique venue. Elites like Benjina D.  are already keeping their eyes  peeled for "iPic events going on during different weeks, as well as pricing specials on Tuesdays. She and hubby will definitely be visiting iPic again!"

Missed out? Check out more photos and reviews on the business page (click here)! Thanks for a fun night, Yelp Dallas!

Yelp Loves The Dallas Mavericks!

Posted by Heli M.

Friday, October 25th proved to be a slam dunk for Dallas Yelpers! So much so that Elites like Keziah K were almost overwhelmed by it all. "OMG...Seriously. This event was just way too much." From start to finish, Yelpers experienced a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity" at Elite Event: Yelp Loves The Dallas Mavericks.

Before catching their beloved Dallas Mavericks take on the Indiana Pacers, Yelp Elites were given a private tour of the American Airlines Center getting an exclusive peek inside Mark Cuban's suite, a view of the team practice court and access to various VIP areas.

Next they were led to court-side seating where they snapped photos of players warming up only a few feet away. Yelp Elites were then treated to their first surpise of the evening: high-fiving the players in the underground tunnel as they headed out to the game! Grace K was full of excitement. "OMG! I couldn't have asked for a better experience than this. I didnt even know there was such a thing! That was truly the highlight of the night, especially because Dirk took the time to high five every single person in the line. He is so awesome!"

PicMonkey Collage

Following the excitement, the Elite squad headed to a private Yelp party suite complete with first-round food and beverage picks from Levy Catering Services. To top off an evening of great basketball, trivia questions and prizes, and a lively half-time show NBA legend Rolando Blackman stopped by to chat and get the scoop on Yelp Dallas!

PicMonkey Collage
Evident from the 5-star reviews and countless photos, this event was the season's winner. "This event is up there on my top 5 Yelp list! I loved everyone around me and the staff at American Airline Center really went over the top for us!" notes Mary S. "You really outdid yourself on this one...it was one of the greatest experiences of my life," notes Grace K

Yelp Dallas is giving an especially big shoutout to Matt Fontana of the Dallas Mavericks and the American Airlines Center for being such generous hosts and making this such an exclusive, memorable experience for all of us!

Until then, SYOY (See You On Yelp) and GO MAVERICKS!

Yelp's Trick Or Treat At Whiskey Cake

Posted by Julie P

OKC’s Yelp Elites enjoyed a night out at one of the metro’s most popular new restaurants, Whiskey Cake. Serving farm-to-kitchen dishes and cocktails out of a ‘from scratch only’ kitchen and bar, Whiskey Cake uses slow-cooking methods and a wood fire grill. A private space at the back of the perfectly-appointed restaurant afforded Elites a truly VIP experience, while large glass farm doors allowed a view to the main dining room and bar.

Whiskey 1

Yelp Elites checked out handmade cocktails including the Tennessee Stud with Jack Daniels, honey, freshly-squeezed lemon juice and orange bitters; the popular Tracy’s Garden with gin, muddled English cucumber, fresh local basil, lime juice and simple, and the Little Rye Lies, made with rye whiskey, black tea syrup, orange bitters and Angostura bitters. Yelpers could also choose from several local craft beers and tapped wine.

Whiskey 2

Whiskey Cake’s delightful servers Sam, Emily and Pringle were hard at work, and their charm was noted in nearly every review. For two hours they delivered perfect potables and brought out selections from Whiskey Cake’s ridiculously good menu, including devilled eggs, fried green tomatoes with tangy dipping sauce and countless servings of the Three Little Pigs –– pulled pork sliders with napa slaw, whiskey BBQ sauce and crispy onions.

Whiskey 3

DJ Ryan Drake from The Spy was on-hand with tunes, and Elites also enjoyed a fun icebreaker and a chance to meet some of OKC’s newest Elites while entering to win tickets to this weekend’s The Girlie Show. This event was definitely a treat, no tricks about it! Check out all the pics on Flickr

Apothecarie Opens Its Doors for Yelp Brooklyn!

Posted by peter d.

We do a lot of eating and drinking around here, but life is about more than just that (we think). So last night we hosted Yelp Brooklyn's first skincare-focused Elite Event and expanded our horizons with Apothecarie New York! This new boutique is bringing home the science of beautiful skin with premium skin care products once available only through a physician, and they invited out the best of Brooklyn Yelp for an exclusive skin evaluation.

Unsure of what to expect, afterward Reana K asks, "Could this have been more lovely? Maybe if there were kittens and rainbows cupcakes, but otherwise I doubt it. Apothecarie really did everything exactly right. The space is small and beautiful- bright with products on three walls. We filled out a basic skin info sheet and were treated to a quick, but thoughtful consultation. We were suggested products but I didn't feel pressured. They sold us on stuff the right way, by having awesome stuff!"

With all sorts of products carefully curated by Edmond and the rest of the staff, Apothecarie's licensed estheticians will help you discover proven solutions for all your beauty concerns; they aim to have you looking healthy and feeling beautiful, and I sure felt pretty by the time I left. With a generous spread of champagne, sushi and other snacks set out just for Brooklyn's finest, AND discounted rides home thanks to Uber, we really got the royal treatment last night.

For her part, Dianne R was "really struck and impressed at how personal and intimate this event was. The attention that Baila, Edmond, and Jada gave us was truly impressive and made a lasting impression on me. It was also great to find a boutique skin care store in the neighborhood." They make that sort of service a habit (check out the reviews if you don't believe us), so head over if you're in the market!

We'd like to extend a huge thanks to Baila, Max, Edmond, Jada and Sandy for their warm hospitality and excellent service! I'm sure we'll all see them again soon at Apothecarie, and maybe we'll use Uber to get there!

And the time of year when Yelpers break out their finest disguises as we clink glasses, indulge in delectable bites, and revel together as fall makes its mark on The City.

For this festive occasion, the venue of choice was Clarkson in the West Village. Clarkson is the sixth restaurant from French proprietor Georges Forgeois, who has become a force in the New York City culinary scene. With his ability to capture the spirit of establishments he treasured during his youth in France, Algeria and Senegal... he's been able to transport the food and atmosphere of his native France to his adoptive New York. In a real rags-to-riches sort of tale, George spent several years saving every penny he earned and working every day possible until he was able to squirrel away enough coin to open his own restaurant. That restaurant was Jules Bistro on St. Marks, and some 15 years later, George can be seen proudly sipping French reds bellied up to the bars at Bar Tabac, Cafe Noir, Cercle Rouge, Le Singe Vert, and Clarkson among others.

Screen Shot 2013-10-29 at 1.46.46 PM

For our Halloween soiree, Clarkson drew from their American + European roots with an array of comestibles including mini mozzarella on crispy pumpkin with sage/pumpkin seed pesto, deviled steak tartare, meat flatbread with house cured Bresaola, fontina cheese, and roasted peppers, vegetarian flatbread with butternut squash puree, kale, and gorgonzola, mixed cured meats and cheese platters, brussels sprout salad, and crispy blue cheese stuffed olives. On the drink side of things, Purity vodka came on board with a tasty little vittle by the name of the Pure and Simple. Featuring Purity vodka (the most award winning Ultra-Premium Vodka in the world), honey, lemon, Scotch rinse... it was the perfect elixir for a Monday Funday in downtown New York City.

We'd be remiss without mentioning the costumes! From real life Japanese emojis to couples costumes like Robin Thicke + Mylie Cyrus and Walter White + Jesse Pinkman, the creative juices were flowing along Varick Street.

Yelp dreams on @Dream Beauty

Posted by Tine

Everyone that knows Oslo's Yelpers, also knows that we do like a bit of extra pampering.

An invite to a girl's night at Dream Beauty on a Thursday was therefore well received. Obviously. How can one say no to a night dedicated to ourselves?

Dream Beauty on St. Hanshaugen gave us so called "weekend lashes," meaning false eye lashes that - obviously - will last for a weekend. We also all got mini manicures! As Torild E said:"A fab group of girls got, if possible, even more fabulous with long natural lashed and freshly painted nails." And speaking of freshly painted nails, Karine S "Regrets that I didn't note down the name of the nailpolish. I do realize I have to go out on a hunt for just this color."

Holy maccaroni, that's some sweet weekday luxury!

We thought so too. An excited Mathilde R was happy with the treats we were served as well: "The best part of this night was to meet a lot of great girls, eat good fruit and drink bubbles."

Dear Dream Beauty! Thank you so much for a wonderful night. We will end it all with Lene H's words: "Here's one star in the book for mini toblerones, two stars for a check in bonus and three stars in the book for free bubbles in my glass."

Yelp's Fowl pleY @ Pollo Campero in Webster, Texas

    Posted by Farrah Akhtar

For the first time in Yelp history, Elites in the Clear Lake area were treated to an event all their own! Pollo Campero welcomed the Yelp Elite Squad to check out their South American fare!

Elites enjoyed generous dinner offerings composed of their new Two-Handed Sandwiches, along with their famous two-piece fried or grilled chicken meal and Latin sides. Paired with their aguas frescas and Central American cervezas, it was a fiesta feast of the season. Check out the event reviews and more photos!

Poppin' Bottles With Yelp Uncorked! in Houston

    Posted by Farrah Akhtar

For two solid weeks on September 25th through October 8th, Yelpers across Houston enjoyed half-off wines at nine local wine bars as part of the Yelp Uncorked! This was a first for the city, as locals explored some of the top-rated wine bars and discovered their new favorite wines. With that, multiple events were hosted to celebrate all things wine!

HOU_Uncorked_300x250We kicked off the promo on September 25th with a Wine Down Wednesday at boutique retail wine shop Plate & Bottle. Yelpers enjoyed a complimentary wine tasting of seven different wines, along with sandwiches, wraps and desserts by Ruggles Cafe Bakery, a beautiful cheese spread from Houston Dairymaids, and meats, olive oils and balsamic tastings provided by Mercantile

On September 30th, we made way to Simone On Sunset for Yelp's Gold Badge Burger Bash. Gold Elites were treated to complimentary gourmet burgers made to order – served only on Monday's at Simone's. With half-priced wines, one lucky Yelper – Jaire Q – walked away with a free bar tab courtesy of Yelp!

    Collage2event reviews and additional photos

On October 2nd – a full week into Yelp Uncorked – more than 50 Yelpers met at Pinot's Palette Memorial City for a Wine Down Wednesday paint party! Yelpers took advantage of the special group discount from Pinot's Palette, as Whole Foods Wilcrest provided a yummy buffet of wraps, fruit and veggie trays, along with a show-stopping avocado, lemon and kale salad. With KIND Healthy Snacks adding a touch of sweets into the mix with their chocolaty, chewy bars – and red and white wine to wash it all down – Yelpers had a blast putting their creative talents to the test.

    additional photos

Wrapping up the two week-long wine happy hour on October 5th, the Yelp Elite Squad made way to James Craig Furnishings for a private event: The Art Of Yelpertaining. Elites took advantage of the complimentary one-on-one design advice from Pamela O'Brien of Pamela Hope Designs. Elites brought in sketches, photos, magazine clips and even floor plans to get tips, share ideas and get inspired! With gorgeous weather on the lovely fall day, guests mingled on the patio where bubbles and wine were served, along with a lengthy build-your-own slider buffet from The Counter, located a stone's throw away. The Counter pulled out all the stops with multiple sauces, toppings and condiments – bacon, grilled onions, bleu cheese please!

    Panamanian Pandemonium.

    Posted by peter d.

Did you know that one of the only authentic Panamanian spots in the entire country is right here in Brooklyn? Did you also know that it's run by the sweetest folks on the planet, and that if their cooking is any indication, Panamanian food is absolutely delicious? Last night, the best of Brooklyn Yelp found out all of this with an exclusive look at Kelso Bistro!

Having recently renovated, the new and improved Kelso welcomed the NYC Elite Squad into their small and cozy Franklin Avenue space for some amazing eats. This local business defintely represents the best of Brooklyn: lovely people serving up authentic and unique food. She finally made it out to her first event, and Tanya R was smitten by the "EXTREMELY hospitable staff" and her "first experience eating Panamanian cuisine was da bomb diggity." All she can remember is the "endless platters of tasty fried dough things, corncake goodies and meat-filled delights. Everything was piping hot off the burners, spicy and delicious."

But for Chris D, it was all about the cow's foot soup: "I still cannot get over how good that soup was.  Seriously... amazing. That soup was sooo good. Yes the empanadas, corn fritters and chicken rice was all very delicious.. but OMG that soup! I wanted to take it home and make love to it."

It wouldn't have been a party without our very own local Sorel slanger Jack From Brooklyn on hand pouring cocktails (with a little help from our very own Deoroop!). You have to check out this Red Hook-based beverage if you haven't yet had the pleasure: Sorel combines Brazilian clove, Indonesian cassia, Nigerian ginger and Indonesian nutmeg with Moroccan hibiscus for a globally delicous but locally made treat. If you're also a Liquortarian (they've got my vote), check Jack out here. (And you know it's good if Heisenberg and Jesse Pinkman drink it in between hits of the blue meth.)

Love the sound of a Panamanian meal? You can find Kesha, Veronica, Renee and the rest of the friendly Kelso staff over at 648 Franklin Ave; they'll treat you right! We want to send a huge thanks their way for welcoming us in with open arms, and I know I'll be back soon!

Whether or not you made it out, make sure to check out all the reviews of the event, the photos from the lovely Melanie Fidler, and what folks are saying all over. Thanks to all for making a brisk Monday night so special!

Yelp BPB Throws A Halloween Party!

    Posted by Blue Arauz

On Thursday about 90 Elite members and guests celebrated at the first ever Halloween party for Yelp BPB. There were costumes, sushi, drinks, head-spins, contests and an all around good time!

    Venu food drinks
The party kicked off as guests arrived at Pangaea Lounge at the Seminole HardRock decked out in the best movie or television themed costumes. There was more than one dead ringer in the crowd as the costumes drew inspiration from all different decades. As Yelpers danced to the great music selection by Pangaea's resident DJ, bartenders served up delicious Three Olives Vodka cocktails with unique flavors like grape, Rang Tang, cake, cherry and bubble (gum)

The fine folks from SAIA Sushi Asian Grill were on hand with delicious bites of their Crazy Salmon Roll and tuna tartare. Uddersweets provided some sweets with chocolate covered Oreo's and coupons for ice cream. The entertainment for the night had everyone scratching their heads saying, "Who are the Yelpers in the Bboy costumes doing these crazy flips?" It wasn't any of our Yelpers but they were the multitalented dancers from Miami Bboy Academy headed up by Kid Jet. They even had a breakdancing Spider-Man.

The drinks, bites and dance moves were great but the night was all about the costumes and thanks to our friends at the Seminole HardRock we had some amazing prizes to give out. Best Duo went to "Daria & Jane", they won 2 tickets to a concert at HardRock Live! Funniest Costume went to "The Dude" and he (she) won 2 tickets to a comedy show at the HardRock Live! The Best Overall Costume went to the
(who had a pack that even played the theme song!) winning a gift certificate to Oak Council!
See all the photos from the event here. They were aken by expert photographer Aubrie J from A Flash In Time Photography.

I don't always throw Halloween parties, but when I do...they are Elite.
    Stay Yelping my friends.

Manhattan Yelpers Enjoy An Aperitivo Atop Macy's

In a little place called Italy, an aperitivo is a bit of a pre-meal where friends gather around and enjoy alcoholic libations alongside small amounts of foodstuffs like olives, crisps, nuts, cheese, sauce dips, little quiches or similar snacks. Basically, imagine the best cocktail party you've ever attended... but at Stella 34 Trattoria, this comes complete with sixth-floor views of the Empire State building from atop Macy's and three wood-burning ovens. Boom goes the dynamite.Stella collage 1

In a crisp fall day that made New York City shine, Yelpers dipped into a variety of crostinis (duck liver mousse, stracciatella & anchovy, classic tomato & basil) assagginis, arancini (crispy saffron rice balls with sausage & mozzarella), spedini (Italian beef skewers) and an array of delicious gelatos from Vivoli (housed inside of Stella 34 - their first-ever location outside of Florence). It proved to be a heck of a sunset soiree.

Big ups to our pals at Campari for rounding out the weekend's festivities with Negronis to keep this a fully Italian celebration! Follow them on Twitter and Facebook to keep up with their happenings around New York City. Also, be sure to check out reviews and photos of the event!

Yelp Rotterdam Elite Event - Yelp's High Tea Lab!

    Posted by Meryem

Of hoe oolong thee eruit ziet?

Last Sunday we've had a high tea, and it was marvelous dahlin'! The amazing team of The Tea Lab made sure we had an amazing time! Owners Elianne and Yun are the epitome of multeatasking, they were kind of tired that a lot of bizzes pay attention to coffee but not to tea and they want to show Rotterdam (and the world, duh!) that there's a lot more to do with tea. So next to 36 flavors of tea there's also Bubble tea! And if tea's not your cup of tea that's no biggie, they have the best barista in town for awesome coffee.

Let me tell you that it was a jam packed afternoon, no lazing around on this Sunday....First there was a tea quiz that taught us loads of new things about tea. During the quiz we got to taste all kinds of sweets, fudge, chocolate cake, sweet pumkin pie and mini cupcakes. And off course there was a lot of tea for us all to try out.

After the quiz it was time for the big bubble battle! The yelpers were paired up to create their own Yelp tea and I got blindfolded at the end to test and choose the best flavor. The winning tea had honeydew, mango and pineapple in it and will be given away for free during Yelp's Tea For Free!

Sweet lovely yelpers thanks again for reminding me each and every time why I love my job so much, you guys are amazing! Lisa the pics are amazing, you're the best and thanks a million to the great team of The Tea Lab who took care of us and made everyone leave with a big smile on their face <3

Untill next time but in the mean time just keep on yelpin'

Yelp Montreal Pays It Forward In Plaid!

    Posted by Risa D

Last night in a cozy corner of Montreal, a pile of Yelp Elites put on their plaid, brought mega bags of clothes and household items to donate, and got down at Yelp's Pay It Forward In Plaid Party. We cheered the darlin' gals celebrating their 3rd Birthday at Founderie, and enjoyed the devilishly delish bites and beverages from Cornetteria and Black Cove. Winners enjoyed prize packs from top rated nearby cafe Odessa and brunch spot Vieux Velo, but really everyone was a winner at this fall celebration. Check out the adorable photos by Jean-Michael Seminaro.

Elites Dress Up Like the Internet for Yelp's HallowMEME Party @ The State Theatre

    Posted by Gretchen

Northern Virginia Elites and their guests were treated to one heckuva Halloween dance party last Thursday at The State Theatre, one of Northern Virginia's most legendary music venues. Yelp's HallowMEME Party was a true celebration of all things internet-related AND Halloween-related, as folks were encouraged to wear costumes inspired by their favorite memes.

There were plenty of Grumpy Cats, McKayla Maroneys, government shutdown puns, and one particularly impressive homemade hedgehog costume that took home a prize. Ben Powell Photography was there with a photobooth to capture every hilarious (and clever!) costume.

Attendees grooved to the tunes of local cover band, Flow in the Dark -- dressed as Candy Crush -- who got rave reviews from the crowd. As Dan H explains, "Did anybody see a dog wagging his tail out of the dance floor? Sorry, that was me. Couldn't help it...that band was funktastic!"

Guests got down on the dance floor while enjoying nibbles from The State Theatre, Bakeshop, and The Chocolate Chick. And not only did The State Theatre have the most incredibly Halloween decorations up, they also hooked up guests with amazing specialty cocktails, with perfectly ghoulish names like The Headless Horseman and Witch's Brew.

Three cheers to HallowMEME! You can check out the reviews of the event here, and if you've got an itch to find out how you can get the in on parties like this, check out why it's neat to be Elite now!

¡Que Sor Rita nos pille confesados! @ El Yelp Lerele

    Posted by Sharon

On Thursday October 24th we had a “crazy” Yelper meeting, but a very funny one. On this occasion the party was held at a bar in the Gothic neighborhood which didn’t left anyone indifferent, the Sor Rita bar, a small temple that honors the Spanish essence in a pure Almodóvar style. When Roberto V get into the party, he couldn’t avoid thinking "but what is this? ", because the “place included a weird deco with stucked heels in the ceiling, pictures of virgins, saints, a countless of barbies and a lot of details that are difficult to qualify, the only thing missing was a flamenco stage".Foto5Attendees were able to try a rich appetizer based in montaditos, sausages, salads and pasta which was prepared by the Sor Rita bar, as some delicious sweets brought by the guys of EatWith: cupcakes, chocolates with sea water, others with eatable silver… Emmanuelle B said: "as always in a Yelp party, the food and drinks were plentiful, varied and great". And we are very glad that you liked! One of the stars of the night was the cocktail Sor Raimunda that you could get by checking-in at the event.

Between laughs, talks, dances and even a sevillana, people approached the "crazy" photocall to take funny pictures. Francisco G note that the party at "Sor Rita was amazing with wigs, castanets, fans... all in a room with the most hard decoration that has seen in a long time and with the always wonderful Yelpers that never fail and many new people". We can not forget about La Reme, the nice cleaning lady that was joking with all the attendees.Foto6Once again, we want to thank to our sponsors who made this event so special: thanks to Sor Rita bar and EatWith who looked after us when drinking and also when filling the belly ;) Do not forget to leave your review about the event or having a look at our Flickr set! Francisco G thank you so much for those great pics!! See you in the next party, coming soon!

La Fogata Hosts Yelp's Halfway to Fiesta Bash!

    Posted by Gloria

There was a slight chill in the air, thunder clouds loomed overhead for most of the day, and there was a point we all thought we'd have to change out our chanclas for our galoshes. Alas, the tequila saints and weather Gods joined forces to ensure a beautiful night under the dazzling papel picado at Fiesta Plaza at La Fogata – because when San Antonio Yelpers are in the spirit, nothing will keep us from Fiesta-ing

If you made it around the world tequila-style, then you sipped on a variety of margaritas thanks to our alcohol partners SA Wholesale Liquors. Said 'ritas happen to be a specialty of La Fogata's, but if other concoctions are more your style, then hopefully you didn't miss La Joya, Effen Vodka, Saint Arnold craft brews, and Blue Nectar tequila (hosting the Yelp Elite Lounge furnished by The Lounge Concept). Last but certainly not least, rum raspas in flavors like tequila-lime and tamarindo kept us in the festival spirit. If you accomplished the feat of sampling everything, then you might've been in need of our Fiesta Survival Kits complete with day-after necesities like KIND Snacks, RESQWATER, Red Bull, and a doggie survival kit from Pawderosa Ranch. Also, a big thanks to Tiger Services for keeping us all cooler than everybody else!

Elite Yelper Joe C explains what we all felt, "We apparently overshot La Fogata by a couple hundred miles, and made it all the way to a town square in Jalisco, Mexico during an elaborate street fair.  ¡Ay, Caramba!" Tex-Mex delicacies included empanadas, flautas, tostadas y queso, rajas y pollo con crema, nachos, ceviche, tasty street tacos, and the overwhelming fan favorite, tacos de cochinita pibil which had most Yelpers claiming their undying devotion to La Fogata on the spot.

La Fogata's in-house mariachis greeted us all and got the party started, followed up by favorite local DJ, Steven Lee Moya, mixing everything from current cumbia hits to Selena, because duh, we like to keep it puro San Antonio. If you missed your moment in the spotlight of TapSnap's digital photo booth, what were you thinking?! You can peep the photo booth shots here (Fiesta flare props thanks to Mean Baby). Also, the official party photos from Parish Photography are available for viewing here. And, you could be famous if you were included in Puro Pinche's video wrap-up of the party.

We never miss an opportunity to turn a party into a good cause, and this one was no different. If for some reason you weren't able to donate at the party, we hope you'll remember all the free merriment you experienced that night and share it with someone who needs itRoy Maas Youth Alternatives accepts donations year round to help break the cycle of abuse in the lives of our local youth.

If you haven't shared your review yet, please add yours to the mix so we can continue to make our Yelp San Antonio bashes bigger and better!

Until we Fiesta again, See You on Yelp

The Boston Elite Squad Brews Their Own Adventure at Hopster's!

    Posted by Hilary H

Something Yelpy is brewing in Newton, and all signs point to Hopster's Brew & Boards! On Thursday, Boston's finest Yelpers and their guests flooded the window-walls of the area's first dedicated brew-it-yourself pub for a night of charcuterie, flatbreads and – of course – hand-crafted beer! Collage1From the initial stages of grain selection, to the syrupy malts and other flavorants and the subsequent steam bath that had outsiders wondering if something saucy was going down, Elites took part in the creation of some seriously potent potables, taking shiny brass vats of near-boiling water to creations like vanilla cream ale and floral lagers, all while learning a thing or twenty. Hannah R brought home a nugget from one of the owners: "Gretchen enlightened me to the awesome sustainable aspects of Hopster's--for one thing, all of the spent grains are brought to a farm in Dudley to be fed to the pigs. Then the pigs get eaten on your charcuterie platter! It's brilliant."Collage2As Hopster's sat anxiously awaiting its liquor license (thanks a lot Blue Laws!), we couldn't sample the previously brewed wares. Good thing the house-made ginger and root beers kept tasting glasses full and charcuterie-salted tongues hydrated. Following the brew times, our gracious hosts sent the crowd to the nearest legal bar for a little true brew social. Thanks much, across-the-street Bertucci's!Collage3

The Dwinq team caught the antics on Facebook and Twitter, the five-star reviews are fermenting and the new brewmasters are so hoppy on Talk. In a few weeks, the stellar batch of Yelp's own will be ready to drink. Anybody want a pint?

    Your Wiser Bud,

    LA East Elites Get Nerdy

You caught us riding nerdy into the 626 as Sheldon, Amy, Star Trekkies and more nerds flocked to Alhambra for a BIG BANG at Nucleus Gallery for Yelp Nerds Out!

At the check-in area, Belly Bombz food truck entertained our taste buds with their Asian style chicken wing flavors like the Firecracker and Bomb Dust.  Upon entry, Elites were handed a pair of nerdy Yelp glasses and encouraged to make a contribution to help the Youth Science Center in Hacienda Heights--we raised nearly $500 for the center to continue providing science education to local youths!

As the Elites made their way through the gallery, they found themselves amid a sea of  Big Bang Theory inspired artworks, quotes, and yes, even a “Bazinga!” ball pit!  Tiffany C got the chance to check that off her bucket list, "When's the last time you jumped into a ball pit!?  I can officially say I did at this event!"

And the fun was just starting.  A long line of nerds gathered around Socha Tea as they turned freshly brewed premium tea into refreshing fruit infused mocktails and cocktails. After quenching their thirst, Elites rolled on to sushi and edamame lightly tossed with sesame oil and dashed with spices courtesy of Happy Rolls. Mwokaji Cakery served up decadent and moist red velvet cake dolloped with cream cheese frosting and white chocolate swirls, while Fluff Ice shaved Thai Tea and Taro flavored snow.

Next door, the DIY Penny Blossom station served as not only a crafting session but also a break spot to catch up with other lovely Elites. Before heading upstairs, nerdy beauties poured Mike's Hard Lemonade and Cayman Jack Margaritas, complete with salt and lime service! As Elites made their way up the stairs, they found a friendly smile serving cold Lagunitas pilsner and IPA’s in Yelp koozies! Last but not least, a huge line of anxious nerds waited to hop into the Snapgram PhotoBooth for some quirky fun with creative props galore!

With tummies filled and thirsts quenched, our nerdy evening came to a close as Mandi T  wishes all a very goodnight with, "Soft kitty, Warm kitty, Little ball of fur. Happy kitty, Sleepy kitty, Purr, purr, purr."

    Memphis Yelp Elites' Halloween Rendezvous

    Posted by Joelle P

There were no tricks and everyone was in for a treat at the Memphis Yelp Elites' Halloween Rendezvous last Thursday! Memphis Yelpers came together to celebrate (in costume) the start of Halloween at the Memphis tradition, the legend: Charlie Vergos' Rendezvous

At out biggest Memphis Elite event to date, Yelpers mingled in a VIP room while dining on countless dishes: popcorn with Rendezvous seasoning, sausage and cheese, brisket, BBQ chicken, ribs, shrimp and more!

And it was certainly this food that made this event a home run! Christine L dishes, "I've heard from so many friends about Rendezvous ribs, and I will hands down stand behind that dude, this rib was amazing. The meat was falling-off-the-bone – so juicy and so tender. Gahhh I'm drooling right now as I write this!"

And it wasn't just the ribs the Yelpers got excited about! Jennifer R explains, "Normally when I eat at the Rendezvous I always get the same thing – their famous ribs. This time I was able to try a whole new side to their menu! I fell in love with their BBQ chicken and brisket."

Elite Tom E was so excited about the event that he took the day off work so he could come! And it sounds like it was a wise decision: "From the beans to the slaw to the potato salad, and the meats - i.e. the ribs, shrimp, brisket, and chicken. I knew then I was right in heaven!"

Also onsite? Face painting and glitter tattoos by Lauren Stafford

And congratulations to the winners of the Yelpiest Costume Contest! Florestela G won 1st place with Werner V winning 2nd and Ebonye B 3rd!

Everyone seems to agree this one of the best Memphis Elite events to date! Check out the rest of the all 5-star, 15 reviews (and counting) here

GTA Elites Keep It Classy At The Scotch & Seafood Tasting Dinner

    Posted by Kris

What do you get when you mix one part fine dining on the shores of Port Credit, one part Highland Park Scotch and one part well dressed GTA Elite squad? You’d get a cocktail of class and sophistication unmatched by any event before it. Such was the case last week as members of the Greater Toronto Elite Squad congregated at the gorgeous Breakwater Fine Dining restaurant at the Waterside Inn in Port Credit, ON.

    Colage 1 HP

Elites arrived in their very best and were greeted by nothing short of the best. A U-shaped table setting expertly decorated in the various colours of fall. All wrapped around a makeshift kitchen set up so that guests could observe Chef Adrian Rusyn as he composed his four course gastronomical symphony before their very eyes.

      Collage 2 HP

The kitchen would have to share centre stage on this night, as Marc Laverdiere Canadian Brand Ambassador for Highland Park was on hand to walk guests through a course by course tasting and education on four unique expressions (10, 12, 15 and 18) of Highland Park.

      Collage 3 hp

With course after course tickling the taste buds of each guest and the scotch pairings blowing the minds of those who sampled them, combined it made for one of the finest evenings in recent GTA memory.

      Collage 4 HP

A warm thank you goes out to both Marc and Chef Adrian for helping to coordinate such a magnificent evening, but the biggest thank you goes out to the GTA Elite squad (of whom both new and old members were in attendance) who continue to help make planning these events a joy!

A very special thanks goes out to Elite, David L from Visions By David for stepping up and offering to help capture this momentous event!

Yelp Elite Te smagning @ Tante T

    Posted by Emilie

    ---- In English ------

This Tuesday, 15 fortunate Elite Yelpers and their guests were invited by Tante T, to a tea tasting at the salon on Vesterbro in Copenhagen. The two owners and siblings, Mette Marie and Mikkel, opened the first Tante T in 2006 and it is their mother who bakes all the wonderful cookies and scones that are being served.

The tables were set wonderful, with nice tea cups and a wonderful vibe. Everything is beyond cozy! Mette Marie was the host of the evening and she walked us through many different kind of teas; from white, over to green and at last dark tea. She even showed us how to whisk a bowl of matcha tea. It was all very interesting.

Everybody enjoyed themselves and there was a lot to talk about afterwards.

A big thank you to Mette Marie and her wonderful staff - you really spoiled us. Everyone also received a tea to take with them home, it was the famous cool mint flavour. Thank you!

    Yelp Gets Artsy Elite Event

    Posted by Angela S

In Celebration of National Arts and Humanities Month, 50 Elites and their guests stopped by the new Galleria In Evanston for the Yelp Gets Artsy Elite Event. It was a fun-filled evening of scavenger hunting, food and wine, discounted shopping, and a chance to meet local artisans who display their goods year-round under one roof. From hats, jewelry, and fine art to food goods like chocolate and mustard, everyone had a great time and got a head start on their holiday shopping.

    Gallery Collage
Guests enjoyed a perfect spread of light bites that included cheese, crackers, fruits, cookies, soda and wine and participated in a Yelpy scavenger hunt to connect guests with the artists. Questions like: 1) This Little Piggy Got All Lit Up and 2) This Butter's Not For Your English Muffin, made for clever conversation.

    Elite and Artists Unite Collage
Games aside, the hunt wouldn't have existed without the talented artists behind their wares. Dee W confesses: "I did not partake in the scavenger hunt. I was having way too much fun talking to each of the individual artists and learning more about their work, passion, and original roots." Self-proclaimed chocolate addict Monica S is "ready to battle the upcoming cold winter months" with her "newfound secret weapon Hot! Chocolate Sauce with Bigfat's 808 Hot Sauce" from GrownUp KidsStuff, and Noir d'Ébène Chocolat et Pâtisserie's Warm Chocolate Sundays cookie deliveries! Laura N "spent a lot of time discovering new types of art. Did you know you can paint with beeswax!? I didn't!"

    The End
    Artist Collage 1

I'd like to extend my deepest and most sincere thanks to the team at Galleria in Evanston (facebook) who helped make the evening unforgettable. Holly, who was busy in Africa supporting local artisans. All the local merchants who came out to meet our guests. Ken, who helped put those fabulous scavenger hunt clues together. Emily, who helped pull together all the final details. And a special thanks to Kim with her amazing glasswork and culinary presentation skills, who truly made this event come to life. Thanks everyone for coming, and remember it's neat to be Elite!

Elite Event: Yelp + Spreegold = Berlin Burger

    Posted by Anne

Was würde passieren?

Herzlichen Glückwunsch an Team Grün!

Berlin as a burger - what would that be like? Currywurst? Schrippe? Cucumber? The Berlin Yelp Elite Squad had the opportunity to create their Dream Berlin Burger with whatever they felt appropriate for it! The Spreegold - a Berlin based Cafe and Bistro - organised quite a stunning Burger workshop where we were splitted up in three teams to create "Berlin on a bun"! The one and only Berlin Burger that would show up on the Menu of the Spreegold Bistro!

Who would create the most convincing burger in terms of taste, look and "Berlininess"?!

Team Green went for mushrooms and mustard, Team Blue ended up with a hip Paleo Burger without any bread and Team Red created a Burger with Schrippe, Curry-Ketchup and Spreewaldgurken - Oh so Berlin!

After hours of brainstorming, setting up a recipe and basically building the burger in the kitchen, it was testing season! And with these incredible creative and ambitious Elite Team it was obvious - it was oh so hard to tell which burger made it but Yes, team Green got it all! Congrats to Team Green for their version with a delicious mushroom sauce

But as all of the three burgers were amazing in their own way, Spreegold decided to feature all of them for two weeks on their menu. So if you would like to have a Berlin Burger made by Yelp check out our Facebook Pages for the perfect time slot to have your favourite one being served!

Thanx to this amazing place called Spreegold that made this event happening!

Thanx to Nina H, who made those pics you can find here!

And thanx to this incredible Elite Members who created three burgers Berlin will never forget!

Yelp LV's Morning of Mulligan's @ Eagle Crest

    Posted by Drew

Fore! Eagle Crest Golf Club invited four Elite foursomes out for 9-holes and lunch at their beautiful executive course. Clubs, balls and carts were provided to all attendees and multiple mulligan's were needed after we hit the course. Once we destroyed Arnold Palmer's course record (not true), everyone enjoyed lunch and an adult bevvy outside the clubhouse while surrounded by beautiful mountain views to the west and city views to the east.

Golf 1Sylvia Q: "We ended up having such a great time! I do remember mentioning how peaceful and relaxing this sport was and can understand how many get into golfing. Our Golf carts were great fun and were also equipped with an ice chest full of ice and 2 waters which was so appreciated after visiting a few holes as it got toasty out there." Kayla M: "We had the option of playing all 18 holes but it took us 2 1/2 hours just to play nine, so we elected to call it quits and relax on the patio at that point. Drew bought a few pitchers of beer, the golf course provided us with boxed lunches (turkey sandwiches, chips and cookies), and soft drinks. We enjoyed good conversation and some sunshine on the patio to end a gorgeous morning! Tracy won a free round of golf for 4, so she was a winner, but truthfully, with a 5 star event like this one, we all were winners!"

Yelp’s Boos And Brews At CB Craft Brewers

    Posted by Breanna

Rochester’s ghouls and goblins had a hauntingly good time at CB Craft Brewers for Yelp's Boos and Brews Elite Event. As one of Rochester’s first craft brewers, CBs got their start 16 years ago and are continuing to push out quality small batch custom brews.

    CB Craft Brewers Collage4

Elites took part in a beer sampling, having a chance to sip their pick of CB’s 20+ options on tap. The in-house restaurant, the Pint & Goblet Tavern also set out platters of food for the guests to fill their bellies. They snacked on quesadillas, cheese and charcuterie a.k.a. the Ploughman's Platter, chili and stew, among other hearty eats. Marissa N had the “turkey Reuben, her “fave bite o’ the night… she could be a sauerkraut sucking vampire.”

    CB Craft Brewers Collage2

Beyond just sipping the beer, the Elites got the lowdown on how the brews are concocted behind closed doors. Compared to past brewery tours, Katie O’s “guide was really knowledgeable and able to answer tons of questions.” Next project for the Elites: Home brewing.

    CB Craft Brewers Collage3

Best costume went to the seriously crafty costumer, Marissa N, for her beer cooler getup. Even Kate B was impressed by the costume, “complete with beer-bottle-cap earrings!  Yelpers sure do know how to throw a party.”

    South Bay's Field Trip CliffNotes

    Posted by Abby Schwarz

Back by popular demand, Yelp's Field Trip bus zoomed into South Bay last week for six days of classes, tours and workshops! Here's our CliffNotes on what went on south of San Francisco from October 13-19, 2013.

Segways in Santa Cruz @ Segway Santa Cruz

    Segway collage
Offering the first guided tours using Segways in Santa Cruz County, Segway Santa Cruz was the perfect local biz to kick off our week of learning. Whether you are a native to Santa Cruz or just visiting, Segway Santa Cruz Tours offer a one-of-a-kind experience you'll want to share with family and friends... Tours are limited in size so you can count on a great, intimate experience.

15 Yelpers got to try their hand at 30-minute tours in the Segway Santa Cruz parking lot on a sunny afternoon. There was a mini course set up for them to drive thru, and two different types of motorized transportation to sample: traditional Segways as well as Robstep. Check out this sweet video taken that afternoon!

"I know SOME people may disparage the goofy Segway as a mode of transportation seemingly tied forever to the humble mall cop, but I'm an Arrested Development fan. If Segways are good enough for my favorite Bluth illusionist, then they're exactly the sort of thing I need in my life. And the Segways themselves are ridiculously addictive. We were out "kicking butt" on the cone course in no time." - Hayley I

Learn to Dance Like the Stars @ Cheryl Burke Dance

    Dancing Collage 2
Plenty of people love watching "Dancing With the Stars", but 75 Yelpers had the opportunity to learn salsa and swing from the experts.

Founded by Emmy Award nominee and two-time DWTS champion Cheryl Burke, their progressive teaching techniques, innovative dance studios and experienced instructors will help you dance with passion, artistry, and romance while you stay fit and have fun! Cheryl Burke Dance Mountain View is one of the largest and most popular dance studios in Northern California. It is conveniently located just off Hwy. 101 between San Jose and San Francisco in Mountain View, California.

"The BF and I used to take classes at Starlite Ballroom and after they collaborated with Cheryl Burke and moved to Mtn View, we just haven't had the opportunity to come by and check it out. This Yelp field trip gave us a reason to finally make it out to Cheryl Burke. From my experience as a former dancer and student of Ballroom Dance, the instructors here are top notch." - Marlyn A

Tour & Tasting @ Hermitage Brewing Company

Brewery collage Whomever said South Bay doesn't have delicious craft beer is crazy! 40 Yelpers had the opportunity to tour a San Jose brewery. And of course, taste several different beers at the end, paired with Pretzel Crisps!

Established in 2009, Hermitage Brewing Company started when Tied House closed down its iconic downtown San Jose location in mid-2009. All the brewing equipment was transferred down the road to South 7th Street, where Hermitage is today. Hermitage Brewery is becoming widely recognized for its Hoptopia, Maltopia, Ale of the Imp, Single Hop "H" Series IPAs, and craft soda brands. In 2011, Hermitage took four Gold Medals at the California State Commercial Craft Brewers Competition. Celebrator Beer News awarded One Door Quadrupel with four out of five stars in 2011, and Hoptopia DIPA four out of five stars in 2012.

"I really enjoyed the tour as Hermitage is unique amongst breweries in that they produce for other breweries too. I found the head brewer to be quite knowledgeable and I learned some things I did not learn at other brew tours." - Jack T

Elite Event: Gym Class for Grown Ups @ Club One Silver Creek Sportsplex

    Club One Collage 1
Fitness isn't always just about losing weight or bulking up. It's about your overall well-being. What you're eating, how all your body parts are working together, even how you manage stress -- they're all part of the big picture, and it's a picture that's uniquely yours. Even if you have just an hour a day to yourself (and even that may seem like a luxury!), your local Club One health club is the one place where you can escape and just focus on you -- your time, your goals, your health.

South Bay Elites who attended this private event didn't have to worry about wearing a uniform, the smell of stinky socks or those awkward group showers... heck no! Club One made the experience 5-stars all the way, offering a selection of classes or the "open club" experience to test out the various facilities. Not to mention the complimentary chair massages, use of the posh locker rooms (including sauna!), Elite 2013 tube socks, Club one raffle, 7-day passes to return to any Club One in the Bay Area, Superflibooks and post-workout snacks.

"I'm really glad I checked out this event. I was really impressed by the facility overall - great classes, equipment, locker rooms, and staff hospitality. I'm actually looking at my bank account right now and trying to figure out how to fit a Club One membership into my budget. Once you've experienced the luxury of Club One, you can't go back to your dinky, crowded gym" - Nancy N

"Club One is luuuux.  It doesn't have a "gym smell" because (aside from constant cleaning and upkeep), they apparently pump a signature scent throughout the club ala Las Vegas casinos! Aside from the great surroundings, the club has a lot of fitness classes (most free with membership, some fee-based), a pool, pimp locker rooms, and an in-house spa!  Tell me you're not saying, "Ooohhh yeah, I can torture my fat cells in style!" - Moo S

    Demo & Tasting @ Sharona's Chcoloate Shop

Sharona Collage Sharona's Chocolate Shop was founded by Sharona Sasounian in 2008. With a true love of unique creations, nothing is out of the box. From chocolate covered bacon to sea salt caramels or chocolate covered potato chips.... You need a chocolate size 6 shoe made? No problem! Sharona makes caramel chocolate covered caramel apples made right in front of you, chocolate dipped brownies, strawberries and more. Winner of best party and wedding favors in 2009 by Bella Publishing.

A group of 40 lucky Yelpers got chocolate wasted inside Sharona's back party room. We're talking platters of homemade truffles, cauldrons of melted chocolate set up for dipping marshmallows, Oreos, strawberries and anything else you wanted to cover in cocoa goodness. After we ate ourselves sick, Sharona hosted a few demos, includig her famous chocolate covered salted caramel apples!

"Sharona's Chocolate Shop was an undiscovered treasure in San Mateo for me! Great little setup nestled in the back kitchen. So happy to have come hungry too. The amount of chocolate I consumed was borderline reckless. I have never been a fan of candy apples, but her Apple Pie candy apple transcends the category." - Gabe R

Farm Day + Potluck @ Veggielution

Veggielution collageVeggielution is a community farm that empowers youth and adults from diverse backgrounds to create a sustainable food system in San Jose. Our urban farm engages the community by providing access to healthy and local food, creating leadership opportunities, and developing creative solutions to social and environmental justice issues. We recognize that the Santa Clara Valley, its soil, ecosystem, and watershed are important resources for future generations.

During our Yelp Field Trip event, volunteers helped with various gardening tasks such as planting, weeding, composting, harvesting, and more. Their reward for such hard work? Produce to take home as well as a picnic with their fellow community members!

"I really am very glad Yelp had me along for the Yelp Field Trip to Veggielution!  I definitely think it's a place I will be going back to sometime in the near future and may try to volunteer there at least once a month or so! We Yelpers donned our least finest to go help out on the farm for the morning.  We ended up pulling out non-native plants and learning about Veggielution. So cool for foodies who like to know where their food comes from! And of course, I got to meet some cool people who aren't afraid of dirt." - Kes D

Read all of the Field Trip 2013 reviews from across the Bay Area! Field Trip is a special promotion that local Community Manager organize to show off the "behind the scenes" of a great local business... Yelpers are curious folks, why not provide a hands-on experience?

    Posted by Lucie

Photo Marie P. / La Vie Lilloise

Haliax Elites get their culture on at Yelp's Night at the Theatre!

    Posted by Shannon H

What do you get when you take local food, local theatre, and some incredible local Elites? You get one awesome night, that's what you get! Yelp's Night at the Theatre brought Halifax's Elite squad together again and it was fantastic for everyone to see each other.

    PicMonkey Collage1

The reception began with a blast of flavour courtesy of Selwood Green. Let Ashlee F tell you more: "What an amazing caterer! He kept bringing out concoction after concoction of his taste-bud-pleasing creations. From squash boats topped with Gouda, cranberries, and walnuts to kale chips; I tried each dish about 3 times - not kidding!" With ingredients all from Nova Scotia (except for what we can't grow, of course!) this was a true celebration of all things local.

    PicMonkey Collage2

Not only was the food to die for, so was the entertainment! "A delightful change from traditional theatre, we were kept entertained by Zuppa's "Uncle Oscar's Experiment". A talented troupe of actors presenting a great mix of comedy, drama, music and dance, in one act, in one hour," raves Colleen D. Murray W agrees with her, adding "Zuppa's performance was fantastic; energetic, catchy and just all around entertaining!"

    PicMonkey Collage3

Congrats also go out to Ashlee F for winning Zuppa's beautiful prize package! Truly, everyone left with a smile. Huge thanks goes out to to everyone who made the night possible: To Zuppa Theatre for providing us all with such a magical performance, to Selwood Green for providing the best food I've ever eaten before a play, and last but not least, to Meghan Pevrill for her amazing photography. To see the rest of the snaps, check them all out here, and don't forget to read the reviews here!

Let's let Mach Z have the final word, shall we? "Delicious bubbling peach drink, indulgent yukon potatoes with cheese and bacon, and last but not least an amazing show put on by Zuppa - Uncle Oscars Experiment! Thoroughly entertaining with a few laughs. Awesome night!"

    Until next time, my darlings!

PDXYelpers Scream For Ice Cream @ Fifty Licks!

    Posted by Don Bourassa

How do Portland Yelp Elites cool down on a surprisingly warm October day? Why by gathering at Portland's newest incarnation of long time favorite Fifty Licks! This cart-turned-brick-and-mortar spot was the site of Yelp's Ice Cream Social on October 21, 2013!

    Collage 1

Fifty Licks has been slinging fantastic ice cream with locally-sourced ingredients out of its little blue box truck since 2009, and they've opened a new shop down on Clinton in inner-SE! Katherine M has "three words to describe this elite event: ICE CREAM OVERLOAD!" That's right, the fine folks at Fifty Licks welcomed a steady stream of PDXYelpers in to sample a full array of flavors including "Stumptown Coffee, Tahitian Vanilla, Toasted Milk, Jasmine Tea with Apricot, Blood Orange Creamsicle, Cherry Bourbon, Jasmine Rice with fragrant Pandan, Coconut Lemon Saffron Sorbet, and Rhode Island Style Frozen Lemonade." (thanks for the catalog, Kristen!) Served up in adorable little egg cups and tiny cones, this spread helped keep the crowd cool from start to finish. The fantastic hand-crafted sorbet cocktails were also on display, including the Furaçao, the Nordic Palmer, The Bitter Rose and the Velvet Shiso. These drinks are made by mixing ingredients like plum wine, cocchi and byrrh with bitters, aromatics and sorbets! A tasty (and tipsy) treat. To top it all off, Chad mixed us up some of his signature Cuban Coffee - a sweet (and STRONG!) espresso-style drink he brought with him from the streets of Miami. And samples weren't all. As Joe M notes, "Taking home a pint of the Bourbon Cherry was definitely a bonus of the evening."

Nikee W sums it up well: "The Fifty licks crew paid special attention to everyone and had scoops at the ready all night. It was a perfect night, from the cool treats, to the stark white subway tile and vintage vibe from the shop, to the happy little cherry bourbon pint currently hanging out in my freezer. Thanks as always to the Yelp crew for kicking the week off right. I can't wait to bring my family back for a ice cream excursion." Huge thanks indeed go out to Chad, Allie and the staff at Fifty Licks; Heather Jones; Ana M; and of course the Yelp Elite Squad, without whom this would not be possible.

Don't just take my word for it. Read the reviews and peep the photos on FB or our Flickr feed

Until next time, keep it creamy!

Birmingham Yelper's Get to Meet the CM at BrewDog

    Posted by Vicky.O

Do you know the difference between a "5 AM Saint" and a "Punk IPA"? The Birmingham Yelper's Do! 30 yelpers were invited down John Bright Street for a new level of Beery learnings with BrewDog for Yelp's "Meet the CM" event. With 4 different brews, cheese boards and many excited yelpers it was an evening of Hops, Barley and Yelpy goodness!

    Introduction 1

Although it's one of the UK's punkiest beer brands, many of the Yelper's had never been to the Birmingham based bar before. Yelper Yadwinder R. summed up the atmosphere nicely, "A Funky, cool and vibrant bar where it's all about the beer."

    Paragraph 2

After being greeted with personalised goodybags, the Yelpers started to learn a little of the ethos and history of the bar through a led tasting with Bec (Just one of BrewDog's beer-sommelier extraordinaires). The first beer, Dead Pony Club, was the light on ABV (in comparison to many of the other BrewDog beers at 3.8%) but big on taste. Although many of the Yelpers (including Lydia B.) admitted they weren't beer drinkers, the refreshing and light taste of this one won them over.

    Paragraph 3  Paragraph 4

After tasting the lighter side, things got a little more serious when BrewDog's classic, the Punk IPA was bought out. After explaining the Punk ethos (although not just-for-punks attitude), laughs were shared with the Yelpers as the mohawked sporting, Doc Martin wearing punk in the room Dan G. blushed just a little. Despite this, he forgave the quote toting beer leader and remarked that, "Bec was a great tour guide through the beers we tasted and showed a genuine love for the craft and an overwhelming passion for the brand."

    Paragraph 5

The Beer-explorers got a slight reprieve before the next beer with some delicious bread baked with Punk IPA and selections of meat and cheese. Cameron M. loved meeting the Birmingham Community for the first time and commented that the mixing of beer and Yelpers was a great combination. By the time the third beer was presented (the almighty 5am Saint), things were getting very merry indeed!

    Paragraph 6

    Paragraph 7

As the final beer was bought out (and the prize for the quiz had been presented to the fact finding champion Emma S.), the Yelpers experienced a taste of the darker side of BrewDog through the wondeful "Dogwired". At 6.8% ABV, this one was a bit of a blinder and a good one to finish the event off on.

    Final Paragraph

All of the Yelpers found something they enjoyed over the course of the event, even Caroline B. who remarked  that the event was "Brilliant fun and a great beer tasting by BrewDog. Very cool venue whether you like beer or not (there's wine on offer), and they care deeply about their craft!"

We couldn't have put it better ourselves. A huge thank you to Dan, Bec and all of the staff at BrewDog for putting on a great spread for Yelp Birmingham's "Meet the CM" event. Not forgetting a big thank you to all of the wonderful Birmingham Yelpers who came along and had a great time.

But don't take our word for it - read what all the yelpers had to say right here, write your own review, have a look at all the photostalk about it and find Brew Dog on Facebook and Twitter!

    Peace Out for now!

    Yelp Turn's Water Into Wine

    Posted by Alex

The recent opening of Foxes Island Cellar Door in Auckland provided Yelpers with the unique opportunity to try one of New Zealand’s top Marlborough wines direct from the producer.

    Foxes Island

Greeted at the door by the charismatic John Belsham, Owner and Winemaker at Foxes Island, Yelpers were given a taste of their elegant 2009 Riesling – the perfect start to a fabulous evening! Whilst Yelpers mixed and mingled, they grazed on deliciously moreish Whangaripo Buffalo Cheeses and an array of breads from Bread and Butter.

    Reisling #3

    Isabella and Whangaripo Cheese

John and Kelly talked to the Yelpers about how the vineyard started back in 1992, speaking passionately about the Awatere Valley and how the land is expressed in the wine - the gravels providing the minerality in the Riesling and the climate in the valley providing the cold nights required for the Pinot Noir.

    John and morven

Yelpers also heard from Morven, the National Sales Manager for Antipodes Water. If you think winemakers are passionate, you need to listen to Morven talk about Antipodes. We don’t blame her though, their water is pretty spectacular.

Sourced from a 327m deep aquifer in Whakatane, Antipodes is incredibly pure and bottled with no chemical interference. With a minerality content of only 130mg/l - which is incredibly low compared to other premium bottled waters - it’s the perfect companion to food and wine. Not to mention Antipodes is the only carbon neutral water in Australiasia. Very impressive!

    Tasting wine

Yelpers then sampled the Foxes Island 2011 Sauvignon Blanc, 2009 Chardonnay and their wonderfully earthy, fruit driven 2008 Pinot Noir. Each Yelper had their own personal favourite but as Jan D mentions, “the surprise of the night was the Riesling,” with lots of Yelpers expressing interest in ordering a case online when they got home.

    Riesling Collage

Many thanks to the team at Foxes Island – John, Kelly, Isabella and Kirsten – for being such wonderful hosts and to Morven for talking to us about Antipodes.

Also, to Whangaripo and Bread and Butter for the fantastic cheeses and breads, which were enjoyed by all.

To read and see more check out the reviews and photos!

    until next time,

Yelps Outback Adventure in Charleston, SC

    Posted by Scotty

The month of October brought Yelp's Outback Adventure across The States – and things certainly heated up in the Southeast. Out in Charleston, Elites checked out their local Outback to sample the resto's brand spankin' new $4 Finds menu complete with bar bites and cocktails!

As Elites entered the event to indulge in a series of light bites with cocktail pairings. From Coconut Shrimp with Creole marmalade and Short Rib Steakhouse Nachos to Chicken Artichoke Flatbread and Brushman 'Shrooms with spicy ranch dressing, Yelp Elites piled high their plates with the best bites Outback has to offer. To wash down the fresh-from-the-kitchen bites, the bartender whipped up seven different cocktail pairings, like the Aussie Rum Punch and Crisp Apple Martini. Then they finished things up with a surprise dessert of cake pops for everyone.

Yelp's Brisbane Giddy Up Photo Walk Elite Event

    Posted by Lani P.

It was a sunny Sunday when Brisbane's Elite Squad met at the newly re-named Tazza Coffee (previously Cup Coffee) for a much-needed caffiene fix before we set out on foot around South Brisbane with Todd and Alyda from Giddy Up Camera Club on our Photo Walk Elite Event

Screen Shot 2013-10-21 at 8.36.08 AM
We might all carry a camera with us these days, yet as we become immersed in our iDevices (or Android!), we typically miss out on being a tourist in our own city and looking at what is around us. Enter the photo walk. Elites were guided by Todd and Alyda through South Brisbane with tips about framing photos, light, and what apps to use (Snapseed and Afterlight to name just a few).

One of my favourite quotes from Todd during the walk, went to highlight the importance of being aware of your surroundings. His wisdom? "Don't be afraid to be okay with sitting and waiting for a shot."

Screen Shot 2013-10-21 at 8.36.15 AM
    Other tips?

    • Always be aware of the background in your photographs. Are there things in the background that will detract attention from your subject?
    • If it's a shot you love, shoot it from three angles before walking away
    • Change your angle of approach. Shoot along the ground, get above it (if you can)

While we could have continued exploring and snapping away for a lot longer, Yelpers finished the day with a wonderful feast of pizza and salads from The Burrow. Their generous servings meant most of us got to take home our slices of choice to eat later. And, can we please take a moment to acknowledge their Iced Tea? Amazing!

Yelp Denver's October Secret Supper at Blue Sushi Sake Grill

For the first time ever, Yelp Denver hosted a sushi dinner at Blue Sushi Sake Grill for the October installment of the Secret Supper Club series. Elated to finally have a sushi spot as the secret destination, Denver Yelpers were eager to try the plethora of dishes lined up for the evening.

BlueSushiA cocktail session was in order for the first 30 minutes of the evening. Rounds of complimentary cocktail, the Kyoto Connection Signature Martini were passed along with a unique creation of Edamame Hummus on toasted crotinis and coconut chicken bites. Vicki P describes the martini as "smooth and delicious and makes an excellent signature cocktail for Blue Sushi Saki Grill. Of the two passed starters, I liked the edamame hummus best." Guests schmoozed as they sipped and noshed until the first round of dinner was served.

To start off the zesty and fresh meal, shared plates of Sapporo Steamed Mussels and Spicy Edamame were served and enjoyed by 60 happy and hungry guests. Kim M sugguests, "If you like spicy food, get the spicy edamame. Boy did that have a kick!" To follow, house salads tided us over before the delicious rounds of nigiri and sashimi. Dressing choices of carrot ginger or wasabi soy livened up the salads! Bonnie C enjoyed the house salad with the Wasabi soy dressing "full of fresh leafy greens and the dressing and would love to have a bottle of it at home."

Next up was a piece of the Itchy Seabass: baked salmon, spicy crab, serrano, cilantro, ponzu, a piece of the Cherry bomb: tuna, serrano, rice tempura, spicy sauce, ponzu, and two Blue Balls, yes Blue Balls: Tempura fried, spicy crab, inari. "Itchy Seabass – YUM!!" Elizabeth P exclaims. "Melt in your mouth Seabass over crab with no rice. Definitely a highlight for me" BlueSushi1

Then for the rainbow of deliciousness: the third course. A beautiful spread of Ceviche-style hirame, Kampachi crudo, Mango hama, Ringo Maguro, Truffle sake, Chili hama sashimi was presented to each guest. Demitri R describes the Chili Hama that "melted on the tongue then hit you with jalapeño, and the "Kampichi was delicate but well put together." But it was the mango Hama that him "Hama Hama for more."

And "to top it off, the Grill sent us home with a lovely gift box full of delightful goodies and lots of coupons. What a wonderful added surprise!" Jenn B "felt very well taken care of all evening long, and that extra gesture went way above and beyond. Thanks very much, Blue Sushi Sake Grill! We will be back!"
