Sometimes it pays to go back to basics. To gather your nearest and dearest and focus on the important stuff. Like eating. And drinking. And catching up on stories. On Tuesday a small group of Melbourne's Elite gathered for a family dinner at Mr Nice Guy to do just that.
Welcomed with icy glasses of Lick Pier Ginger Beer and snacks of pork crackling with green chilli relish and Thai sausage, Yelpers mingled in Healeys Lane catching up with friends from the Yelp family.
Moving inside to the large family table (with a couple of "kids" tables to the side!) they took their seats and waited for the first of many shared dishes to hit the table. Som Tum was prepared by Mr Nice Guy staff member Sandra, with some Yelpers taking a closer look to see how it was made.
Next, vegetable curry and whole barramundi stuffed with thai herbs and presented with crunchy vegetables. Brave Yelpers got stuck in to their personal Sriracha bottles, adding more fire to their plates. Fog City Sangria with plenty of ice helped to cool down those mouths.
Next came thrice-cooked pork belly with an intriguing oyster foam. This was surf and turf, thai style! Also, whole roasted chickens with spiced cauliflower and fiery jus. Yelpers were stuffed to the brim before the very final dish - a chilli infused chocolate tart served with thai-liquor soaked strawberries and cream spiked with pop rocks!
Owners Pla and David ("Mr Nice Guy") were on hand to spoil Yelpers and share stories about the food and their other business Middle Fish. A very big thank you to them, the chefs and staff Ross and Sandra for taking great care of us.
