Yelp Indy's Farm + Fodder Week!
Harvest season in the heartland didn't go unoticed this year! Yelp Indy celebrated local ingredients and the businesseses who bring 'em to the table with a week of free festivities known as Yelp's Farm + Fodder. The week kicked off with an intimate 12-person preservation class with Indy Food Swap's Suzanne Krowiak in the Indianapolis City Market demo kitchen. Yelp Can Pickle That! offered Yelpers a chance to experience canning 101 and take home a bag of their own beautiful tools to get the *Ball* rolling thanks to Ball Canning.
There wasn't anything less than a 5 star experience when it came to Thursday night's Farm + Fodder parking garage rooftop dinner for elites at City Way. With the sunset as their backdrop Yelpers whet their whistles with all local beverages including Plat 99's The Landmark cocktails, Sun King Brewing beer, New Day Meadery cider and mead and alkalized Whidbey tea by U Relish Farm. Before taking their seats at the communal tables decorated with Crimson Tate linens, guests were able to help themselves at the parfait bar featuring granola by Circle City Sweets, preserves by Preservation and Greek yoghurt from Fage.
Young Heirlooms from Cincinnatti played music while Yelpers feasted on locally-inspired food by Severin Bar, Smoking Goose, Market Table, Cerulean, Taylor's Bakery and Just Pop In! In the words of Jenna L: "I knew this would be an event to remember, but I did not plan on it being SO great. Literally, I thought the event was almost over before the entree even came because my eyes and mouth were so quickly satisfied by all of the delicious bites."
To work off Thursday night's gluttony, 35 Yelpers put the pedal to the metal for an afternoon bike ride and urban farm tour known as Yelp's Bib Overall Bike Tour! Stops along the way included Agrarian (Indy's newest urban ag business), Bee Public (urban bee group) and New Day Meadery (local meadery that uses Indiana ingredients).
Last, but definitely not least, the week wrapped up with a nod to France's Diner en Blanc series, yet with a tasty local ingredients-only Indy twist. Yelp's Pop Up Picnic boasted one hundred locals nestled in, family-style to White River State Park's White River Waterfront Pavilion with lavish decor, all-white getups and clever meals. Thanks to the Butler Jazz Ensemble the evening's mood was officially set. From catered tables to white sparklers, Indianapolitans were pulling out all the stops!
A hefty "thank you!" to all of the businesses, media folk and Yelpers who made Yelp's Farm + Fodder Week one to remember! Couldn't have done it without YOU!
