Yelp DC's Night Cap at Kabin

Posted by Kimberly

After a long day on the slopes (or cubicle),  Elite snow bunnies and mountain shredders cozied up at Kabin, an Après-ski lodge that had Chris S raving, "Holy crap! Yelp got me into one of those mirror-ceilinged dance club lounge things on Connecticut Ave and I liked it!" Upon entering, guests were immediately greeted with a shot ski of Three Pins, Kabin's signature drink which is made with over a dozen herbs and flowers found along alpine trails and remote mountain passes.

Roti Mediterranean Grill and Dolci Gelati were also on hand to refuel and recharge Yelpers after their exhilirating shot ski run. Danesh I gives major props: "The falafel and hummus were hella good, so good lookin' out to the peeps at Roti for taking care of us vegetarians." As for dessert, Kate F only has to say this: "I love Dolci and it loves my thighs!" With Aztec Chocolate, Gingerbread, Eggnog and Earl Grey Tea on the menu, there were many reasons to wish that winter was just around the corner!

Libations from Deep Eddy Vodka and Carlsberg gave liquid courage to get Yelpers out on the dance floor! "DJ Uzzle made the whole event a six star deal for me!" Rachel C testifies. When the night ended, Lyft, DC's hippest new ride sharing application offered Yelpers a voucher so they could get home safely...and with a pink mustache in tow.

A big thank you goes out to David Dang Designs for capturing all of the smiles on camera! Check all the photos out here. If you want to catch more of the party buzz, hop over to the event listing to read all about the excitement from your fellow yelpers.

Until Then...SYOY,

Madison Elites Find True Love @ Fresco

Crisp cocktails kissed by summer sun.
Glasses of robust red and buttery white wines
The sounds of friends laughing, sharing a magnificent meal together.
And rooftop views of the Capital at sunset.
Sound like the opening scene of your favorite summer rom com?
It was our August Elite Event in Madison, Yelp's Blind Date 2.0
at Fresco Rooftop Restaurant & Lounge!

Head chef John Jerabek, General Manager Megan Kirby and Managing Partner slash sommelier Caitlin Suemnicht set the scene for a one-of-a-kind "eat-sperience" underneath the setting sun and then stars.

2 3 4

After a cocktail hour featuring Fresco's seasonally inspired drinks Elites took their seats for an unbelievable series of courses that started with a house-made ricotta gnocchi with summer veggies in a brown butter herb cream sauce paired with California Chardonnay.

5.1 6.1 7.1
5 6 7

Next was a barbecue shrimp that Bobby Flay would find flawless, with smoked butter polenta and a French Burgundy. Smoked butter? Chef John joined us at the table to chat about the process that makes his polenta perfect, but we wouldn't dare divilge his secret. You have to read the reviews then try it out yourself this summer at Fresco!

8 9 10

Before the steak course, Chef brought us some seriously juicy peaches, picked up from market over the weekend. (What an incredible palate cleanser. Now... someone say steak?) We're not talking any ole steak. This fan favorite blew people away with it's incredible taste and perfect internal temp. The third course course was beast according to Liz B, "perfectly seasoned and grilled, but by far, the chimichurri stole the show!” An Argentinian Malbec made a great companion to the magnificent meat.

11 12 13

And our evening concluded with a dessert trio; a basil shortbread cookie, sungold tomato sorbet and an Alsum corn brulee, that was only made sweeter by Alsum farmers as our dinner guests. They joined our blind date and chatted about their history and what makes cobs so crave-worthy.

14 15 16

Extreme (and we're talking EXTREME) thanks to Chef John, Megan, Caitlin and the entire team at Fresco for showing us an incredible evening and to Stephanie Kluz for capturing it. While nobody knew going into the night what we'd be eating, drinking and which Elite's we'd wine and dine with (it was a blind date after all) Eric C claims it couldn't have gone better: “My date foraged for fresh ingredients at the farmer's market and whipped up a decadent Monday evening dinner, ready just as I got off work. We watched the sunset together and had our third course by modern candlelight. As I'd say to my mom, this one's a keeper!”

Hear that Fresco?
You're a keeper!
Thanks for an amazing evening on the roof!

Yelp Checks In: Broward - Palm Beach

Posted by Blue Arauz

The last week was a whirlwind of all things Yelp in the BPB. Yelp Checks In took over Broward-Palm Beach with 29 businesses giving out FREE Check In Offers including: sushi rolls, workouts, mojitos, beer, appetizers, desserts and more. Along with the amazing, free offers we hosted five events around town. Check it out:

We kicked off the week on Monday at The Funky Buddha for a private tour of the brewery and samples of their unique brews. After the tours Yelpers enjoyed an extended happy hour, snacked on 7 different styles of Pretzel Crisps, played giant Jenga and noshed on fish tacos from Jefe's Original Fish Taco Truck. Not a bad way to kick off the week!

On Tuesday we "checked in" to a part of BPB that has never had an Official Yelp Event: Lauderhill! We were here for the first time and we were ready to EAT! The fine folks at Los Verdes spoiled Yelpers with a plethora of Colombian dishes that included: empanadas, hot dogs , burgers, chicken quessadillas and maicito de pollo! Not sample sized portions, full servings! To end the night right, samples of their brand new milkshakes were served and received an overwhelming approval from Yelpers. Lauderhill, you now have a Yelp flag planted in you!

Los Verdes YCI

Thursday a group of lucky Yelpers embarked on a first of its kind event at Gulfstream Park. The crowning jewel of Yelp Checks In had Yelpers "restaurant hopping" and "checking in" to three separate businesses. The night started at Paladar Latin Kitchen & Bar, where Yelpers were welcome with a mojito and appetizers. Salsa, plantain chips and yucca chips were waiting for guests as they arrived. Then appetizers came roaring out of the kitchen. On the menu: portobello and queso blanco empanadas,  braised beef mini tacos, and cuban sandwiches.  But wait, we aren't done yet!

After a quick walk over to Brio, Yelpers were greeted with a raspberry martini and found a buffet set up for them. A private dining room made for an intimate setting. On the menu: spicy shrimp and eggplant, pasta alla vodka, chicken limone , veggies, mashed potatoes and margherita flatbread. As you passed though the line you were welcome to take as little or as much of each option. Everyone sat down and enjoyed dinner while chatting with fellow Yelpers. But wait, we aren't done yet!

After another quick walk (it's great for digestion) we arrived at III Forks for a (bitter)sweet ending. Walking in we had the entire bar area reserved and Yelpers took their seats as trays upon trays of Bootlegger came out. After the sweet creamy (whisky filled) drinks were chugged down, everyone thought "What a sweet way to end the night!" Nope, we have more! Out came fried cheese cake balls, chocolate covered strawberries and bread pudding! One last walk left...to the car.

Gulfstream YCI

Saturday we "checked in" to Las Olas, which could possibly be the most famous street in the BPB. Right off of Las Olas Yelpers found themselves at Mancini Modern Italian for a delicious lunch that was jam packed with a chefs tasting. As they arrived they were greeted with the Mancini - a signature vodka cocktail. Dishes were constantly coming out of the kitchen courtesy of Chef Claudio Sandri (who competed on Iron Chef). On the menu: Tuna cruda, beef carpacio, polpette (meatballs), calamari, agnoletti, lasagnetti. tagliatelle alla bolognese, diver scallops, pizza funghi, and chocolate ganache. The entire time wine glass were kept filled with either red or white wines. The perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon!

Mancini YCI

Tuesday people claimed their last Check In Offers and Yelpers took over the outdoor patio at D'Angelos Wine & Pizza Bar for a Wrap Party! As Yelpers arrived they were greeted with a selction of beers, red and white wines. Then it was over to the photo station where Yelpers wrote what Yelp meant to them on dry erase boards, posed with Pinky and took some great shots. Out came the food! On the menu: Arancini, meatballs, and an assortment of pizzas: primavera, contadina and angelo. To end the night an assortment of gelato was brought out for guests to sample. A sweet ending, to a great week!
Dangelo YCI

It was a wild, fun ride! Thanks to everyone who came out the events, checked in and claimed offers, and a huge thanks to all of our partners - we couldn't do it with you you!

Just incase you couldn't make it to the events here are some photo links:

* A bientôt sur Yelp

On Tuesday night, rain decided to pour over Lyon after weeks of sunny blue sky. But it takes more than clouds and rain drops to discourage our brave Yelpers. Especially on an Elite party night! Especially when candies, tasty wines, vintage video games, good food and new faces are waiting for them to party in a retro mood at Pola Café.

45 Elite came, talked, had fun and played our "Who's who" little game guessing who were those little kids they seemed to know. Guess what! They were mini-Yelpers! Each Elite had given a photo of him/her as a child. Pretty funny to see all those Elites with missing teeth! A nice trip back to the the past…

Yelp Greater Toronto Area Lights Up Port Credit

Posted by Kris
On Monday Yelp GTA hosted nearly 250 guests on the shores of Mississauga in the town of Port Credit. As the evenings festivities began a 20 foot LED screen helped us Light Up Port Credit, one of the hippest hoods in the GTA. The faces of Yelpers new and old shone bright like diamonds as they sampled some of Port Credit’s most delicious foods, a bevy of beverages from amazing sponsors, and incredible entertainment and other local flavour!

From Gourmet Maple-Bacon and Skor flavoured doughnuts (by Daddy-O Doughnuts) to braised short ribs with freshly grated horseradish (by Port 229 Artisan Bistro) and more, the line up of food kept guests mouth watering and coming back for more. Drooling, Sami E recounts "the selection and variety of food was impressive! My personal favourites were the braised beef and mashed potatoes from Port 229, the steak burrito from Burrito Boyz and of course the Black Mamba wings from Wingporium which may have been the spiciest things I have ever put in my mouth." Here’s a list of our amazing food sponsors:

To wash down all those sumptuous sweet and savoury snacks, there was a bounty of buzz-worthy beverages on hand to wet whistles and quench thirsts, including:

But a party wouldn't be a party without a little entertainment! MXEvents Entertainment provided a 20 foot digital media wall and kept the music spinning on the 1’s and 2’s all night. And guests were able to grab bag of complimentary popcorn while getting their pics snapped in the photobooth provided by Qube Entertainment. And just when the night couldn’t get any more interesting, world-renowned performer Nathaniel Rankin blew guests minds with his mingle magic before finally putting on a performance that wow’d guests!

This whole evening was planned in support of local Port Credit charity – The Compass, whom we were able to raise $768.20 for to help support their food bank and local social initiatives! A big thanks to all the generous yelpers whose donations helped make this happen!

A huge thanks to all yelpers and sponsors for making this evening fantastic, and of course... a special shout out to the Port Credit BIA (Twitter and Facebook) for helping to pull together an amazing event at a totally unique space in the GTA.

Auckland’s Very First Elite Event – Margarita Masterclass at Mexico

Posted by Alex

What better way to kick off Elite Events in Auckland than with Tacos, Sangria and a whole lot of Tequila!

Food and Alcohol Collage

Hosted upstairs in the private room at Mexico Britomart, Yelpers were led through a Margarita Masterclass with bartender and margarita guru, Russ, before trying their hand at their own creative concoctions thanks to tequila sponsor, Jose Cuervo Tradicional.

Armed with a boston shaker, a bottle of Tequila and a table full of mixing ingredients including cloves, tamarind, jalapenos and lychees, Yelpers were challenged to come up with their own imaginative twist on the classic cocktail. Plum, clove and cinnamon margarita anyone?

Yelpers making drinks

And just to make sure things didn't get to loco, Yelpers were treated to mouth-wateringly good tapas, Mexico-style. All the food was fresh and flavoursome and devoured in a flash but the crowd favourites were definitely the fried chicken with magic powder & jalapeno mayonnaise and the three cheese quesadilla which was served with a smokey, blackened onion crema dipping sauce.

People Collage

A huge thankyou to Mimi, Matt and their team at Mexico and to our tequila sponsor Jose Cuervo for making the evening possible!

Vernissage der Yelp Pop Up Galerie "Mei Mingaliebe!" im Arts & Boards.

Posted by Verena

Yelp-Collage-2

Wow what a night! Popping up art is fun. The vernissage of the first Yelp Pop Up gallery with Munich Instagram-artists at Arts & Boards was a great success. More than 150 people came to see the 40 pictures from 18 artists, that expressed their love for Munich in Instagram pictures. Sam S was flattered: "All in all a great night and one that I will remember for time to come as, the pictures I bought at the cafe will be on display in my flat ensuring that I don't forget the evening or the experience." The Instagram pictures can be purchased until the end of the exhibition 25th of September in the restaurant for 49 Euros per piece. The proceeds of the exhibition will be donated to Hilfe für Kwale District eV. The donations go to the financing of the 6th classroom for Sabrina Primary School in Pengo / Kenya. The current 5 Class is pleased to begin the new school year in January 2014 in a new classroom with the help of all donors.

Thanks for everyone that helped to make this a very special night! My special thanks goes to Selly and the whole team from Arts & Boards and the artists, that handed out their awesome art for a good cause. Thanks to DJ Matthias Starke and the photographer Christian E for creating good vibes and having them eternalized on nice fotos.

Yelp Glasgow's 2013 Games Elite Event @ Dukes!

Posted by Briony C

Dukes Bar were our gracious hosts for our August Elite Event! Yelpers were provided with samples of Asahi as well as house wines for those more partial to the grape. Guests mixed and mingled and eyed off the board games laying in wait for someone to play - we had Uno Roboto, Connect 4, Pass the Pigs as well as Sort it Out (better pronounced Sort it Ooot!).

Dukes also laid on a spread of some of their most loved menu items - pulled pork ciabattas were a real hit as were the selection of pies - Aberdeen Angus as well as chicken, bacon & leek. To really get your tastebuds tingling the special dish of the night was Jaal Moori - a Bengali snack of chick peas, onion, Bombay mix, puffed rice, cucumber, lime and chillies on the side! Were your tastebuds up to the challenge (mine were, and I want more!!)?

Dukes 2
To top it off there was the amazing musical backing of the folk session musicians who jammed away and gave the night a magical feel with some great Scottish music. After some bevvies were consumed the board game action really took off ... although some of us needed to refresh our memories for the rules of Uno!

Dukes 4

Steven B says "Great host for a Yelp night, where the drinks and grub went down a treat. 1.5 beers for the missus is a new record, so thanks Yelp for leading her down the dark side... Was cool to meet some new folks and catch up with less new folks. Good crowd!"

Dukes 3

Andrew C says "Great group of people and a wonderful venue usually results in a good night and that was true of this event. The staff did a great job of getting the drinks and food to people. Good people, good food, great night."

Nicola C says "I had an amazing night! (Of course, it's a Yelp event!) With Asahi, live music and tasty food, it was a night to remember. I'd not ventured to Old Dumbarton Road for a drink before, but Dukes is a great example of what's on offer. The bar staff were great and the snacks were refreshingly unique."

You can check out all the reviews of the night here, the photos here, and find me – Briony C – on Yelp over here! A huge thank you to Iff & Derek at Dukes for making the event such a wonderful night, the folk session muscians, as well as Alasdair Watson Photography for snapping some seriously great pics, as always!

See you on Yelp!

Providence Elites Live La Belle Vie @ Broadway Bistro

Posted by Hilary H

"Oui! Oui!," cries Jennifer E. "The Oui the Elite event at Broadway Bistro was a phenomenal success!"

"The drinks were tasty – loved the Raspberry Caipirinha and the Fresh to Death although all the cocktails looked like winners" to Becky F. "The passed hors d'oeuvres were bangin' and perfectly-sized (hellooooo everything I saw!), and the company was delightful as ever. I enjoyed my sips and bites while making some new friends and catching up with others." That's what these events are all about, cherieCollage1Every snack Jaclyn P tried "was delicious. The shrimp ceviche, codfish bites and risotto balls with pesto" were tres magnifique, but the "plat de résistance was the bluefish pâté – smoked bluefish is a pescatarians bacon!" Madamoiselle Jaclyn "could've eaten an entire baguette smothered in that smoky, seafood magic!" Mais oui! "The ricotta balls? fondu dans ta bouche." Marcy L wishes she had "a tete-sized one with some greens around it. Even les petites pommes de terre and tomato were balsamic heaven."Collage2"This event did everything" to make William H "double down on coming to Broadway Bistro as often as possible. Every morsel was delicious - bacon risotto? Thank you, I WILL have seconds. The rum and cointreau cocktail with cinnamon sugar rim was very tasty and the Caiphrinha was also very well balanced." Salut! Collage3
"It's like the Eiffel tower itself pierced my stomach, heart and taste buds all in one fell swoop, forever connecting this bistro and myself. This was definitely one of" Eric P's "favorite Yelp events. Food was amazing, alcohol was potent and delicious, girls in shorter european dresses, the venue was spacious and perfectly sized." All in all a belle nuite for the Elite!

All fabulous photos courtesy of our beloved photographer, Brad Smith. A big MERCI! to Broaday Bistro, Brad and the best Elites a gal could ask for.

Yelp's End Of Summer Soiree At GP's

Posted by Stephanie

Summer is coming to an end and what better way to enjoy it than on a beautiful pation overlooking Hamilton Park in Jersey City at GP's. Niki C enjoyed all the tasty treats but that Eggplant Caponata, "the best. That mix of savory and sweet thanks to the peppery zest and the caramelized onions within give it such tremendous flavor on the toasted bread it's served with" kept her attention. Emma G's "personal favorite was the escarole crostini, which was somehow both rich and light, though the skirt steak crostini was a close second."Food1People

Filled to the brim with cucumber-rhubarb margaritas and delicious bites, Yelper's enjoyed the last bit of August with style and class, just like the interior of GP's. A delicious and warm welcome from owner George Politis made this a Yelp Event for the books. Check out the reviews here!

Until next time, SYOY!

Posted by Lolo R.

Although Yelpers have been seeing this around our city a lot, most of them never dared to go up in one. But thankfully Madrilian Yelpers are quite adventurous, so they were eager to try one of these tours that Segway Trip offers in these futuristic vehicules.

Collage 2
And no one regretted it, this event was quite a seccess! Eugenio S found so hard to think about a word to define how much fun was it, that he had to come up with a brand new one: "segwaygasmic". Now he assures that he will need therapy to go back to real life, as he finds walking "antinatural and boring". César G was more experienced in this field, but the tour just made him realize how much he needs this device in his life. "Can you sponsor one?" he asks.

Collage 3
Anyway, if you really want to try, contact with Rocío G. She liked it so much that she even asked for the price of the tours, and she found it quite affordable! May your experience be as good as Teresa A's, who wanted to give the even six stars instead of five or Bruno R's who thought that "it was the best part of the day!".

Don't forget to leave your impressions on the event, take a look at the pictures and follow us on Facebook and Twitter. Do you want more? Take a look to see if you have what it takes to be an Elite!

The class took place at the Istinye branch of Cihangir Yoga, and was instructed by a great Yoga teacher "Zeynep Çelen". Thanks to Zeynep, we got a chance to understand the neccessity of listening to our body's needs and start loving "yoga" right away...

RRAaaaaaaarrrrrrr!! Dublin Elite Viking Splash Tour!

Posted by Emily C

RAAAAAaaaarrrrrrr!!! It's a highly scientific roar. Not your average tiger roar, nor your slightly histerical 'We've won the match' roar, more of your specific 'Viking-Scare-The-C$%*-Out-Of-Passers-By' roar. After a group practice before taking off, it's horns on heads, and you're ready to get all Norse up in here!

What is that crazy Yelp woman going on about you may say? Yelp Elite's invite to go along to the Dublin institution that is the Viking Splash Tour obvs!

'We laughed, smiled, waved and shook our fists all around the city. It really was a hoot. To see the reaction of some of the celts (AAAARGH!!!) as we drove past was priceless. From broad smiles, to bemusement, to "what-the...", to pretending we were not there. Hilarious' It sure was Cristin L, it sure was!

If you have not been on the Viking Tour yet - what are ya at! Sarah T's done it three times now! 'This was my third time on the Viking Splash Tours but the fact that I've had three different guides means I just can't get sick of it. It's always more fun with a large crowd!'

Although you do hear lots of interesting tidbits about our Fair City, this tour is just plain ridiculous amounts of 'messing', and also proves a great reminder of the historical parts of Dublin, from the secret river Poddle to the Peppercan Church and the newer shinier Dublin Docklands - you get a little of everything and many reminders of places to return to.

Some interesting facts that Donald P learnt along the way; 'Did you know that one of the oldest street in Dublin is called....New Street?  ..And Why the Spire wasn't built in Bertie Ahern's back garden? Well, you have to take a tour to find out!'

As Gina L put it, 'this tour is good for the soul!  A lot of laughter and yelling in a 'safe environment' (i.e. big yellow boat-ish thingie on wheels) never hurt anyone!'

A fantastical, fun way of getting out and about Dublin with friends, colleagues, groups, or hell, random strangers. Thank you Viking Splash for arranging the tour - it was 10/10 ridiculous fun!

If you'd like to read more reviews on the event, have a look here.

If you'd like to check out some more photos, check here.

And if you'd like to get into the Viking spirit, give them a call here. Just remember how to great them correctly - it's AARRRRGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Yelp Columbus Goes Behind the Scenes with Cirque du Soleil's TOTEM

Posted by Christina C.

The Cirque is in town, and a few lucky Yelp Elites got an exclusive behind the scenes look at the action. Totem, one of Cirque du Soleil’s most popular touring shows, arrived in Columbus on August 22nd and will be performing here until September 15th.

Totem 1.jpg
Inspired by many of humanity’s ancient founding myths, the show touches on evolution. As such, Elites headed backstage to check out costumes - like custom ape masks, and the iconic frog costume that is featured on the show's poster. Did you know each performer does his/her own makeup??

Totem 2.jpg
Without a doubt, it's the acts who are the true stars of the show. Elites got the chance to chat with two acrobats, Sarah Tessier and Guilhem Cauchois, who perform the Love Birds act of the show. They revealed that while fatigue is a consistent challenge, the desire to put on an exciting show constantly motivates them. Their strong chemistry and wide range of acrobatic skills make them an exciting act to watch.

Huge props to fellow Elite Teri D who took stunning photos AND wrote her recap of the event on her blog!

Tickets are still available for shows through Sept. 15th in Columbus.

(Thanks to new Yelptern, Will B, who wrote this blog post!)

Yelp Singapore Takes On Tapas at District 10!

Posted by Marcus

The Singapore Yelp Elite squad started out our August sweating it out, and finished with true to form - with wine and tapas on hand, and many smiles all around! The lovely team at District 10 hosted 40 of our Elites (including our King of Singapore, but more about that later), and set us up in their lush outdoor bar, with a great view of the stars!

District 10's Bar and Tapas Restaurant brings tasty sharing plates to this part of the west, and our Elites gladly partook in the night's delights - from fresh, crispy duck wraps to pintxos, pintxos, pintxos, and signature District 10 pizzas, we savoured every bite, and were glad to have some stellar red and white wines to boot.

So as it turns out, it was also Nik "the King" T's birthday! Coincidence? I think not! Who better to celebrate your birthday with eh? Again, the hosts thoughtfully sprung for a savoury surprise. Can you say birthday burger? The King was most pleased.

Thanks to Theodore and the District 10 team for the super reception; the Elites certainly enjoyed every last bite. Pixelmusica got us some great snaps of the night as well - check them out here! You had fun, didn't you? Then go leave a review lah!

Yelp Kicks It with the San Jose Earthquakes

Posted by Abby Schwarz

Did you know that San Jose has a MLS team in their own backyard? The South Bay Elite Squad found this out firstahand on Sunday, August 18 while the our local team played (and won!) against Kansas City at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara. Yep, we kicked it with the Earthquakes!

Earthquakes collage 1

The San Jose organization was established in 1994, when San Jose became a charter member of Major League Soccer on June 15. San Jose joined Boston, Columbus, Los Angeles, New York/New Jersey and Washington, D.C. as the first teams in MLS. Between November, 1994 and June 1995, Tampa Bay, Denver, Kansas City and Dallas were added as clubs and the San Jose team was assigned to the Western Conference.

When the San Jose Major League Soccer club decided to change its name and look in 1999, it went into the past to do so. Reaching back to a previously successful soccer team in the area, the Clash became the Earthquakes. The previous incarnation of the Earthquakes played in the North American Soccer League from 1974-1984, and then in the Western Soccer Alliance from 1985-88. Those Earthquakes teams called Spartan Stadium home. The name Earthquakes originally came from a newspaper contest in the San Jose Mercury News, in which fans were encouraged to send in suggestions for the name of the soon-to-be formed San Jose franchise. The name Earthquakes was chosen by the team's management.

Earthquakes Collage 2

We started off the evening with a little tailgate across the street from Buck Shaw. Yelp had their own reserved area in the Earthquakes parking lot, perfect for some beer, snacks, and giant Jenga. Yelpers brought their own chairs and pre-gamed it for an hour or so before heading over for kick off. Each Yelper who made it to the game on time was given complimentary game tickets as well as a food and drink voucher. It's not a professional sporting event without hot dogs and draft beers, right? And the lucky few who lined up early even got a commemorative bobble head - the ultimate souvenir!

It wasn't even 30 minutes into the game when San Jose scored and cannons blew confetti all over the field. Yelpers and Earthquakes fans cheered all the way until halftime. The mid-game show was even more adorable with Polynesian hula dancers, big and small. Yes, even the most teeny tiny little girls were there to shake their hips. And though there were no other goals scored in the second half, it was fun to celebrate a win for San Jose.

Earthquakes collage 3

"Not only was this my first Earthquakes game, but it was also my first tailgate," squealed Alyx F.  "When we got to the game, the seats were great.  Pretty much everywhere in the stadium has awesome visibility." Chris C also agreed that "The game itself was very entertaining. MLS is often criticized for being a slow sport but there were plenty of tense moments and close calls, keeping the game pretty exciting." Finally, Wendy W was especially pleased about the event since, "My husband
is a huge soccer fan (mostly international teams) so we've never really considered attending a local game... but after this experience, I think it's something we definitely will try to do again!"

Read the 5-star reviews from our sporty Sunday funday and check out photos from Jorge Novoa on Flickr! A special thanks to Jacob from the San Jose Earthquakes for coordinating the event, the team has a few more Yelpy fans because of it :)

Elite Event: Bolt Goes Burlesque

Posted by Lauryn

Yelp Elites and their guests came out in their best burlesque attire for a night of glitz and glamour for Bolt Goes Burlesque at Bolt Bistro. A beautiful night under the stars guests enjoyed the summer breeze on the patio; where oak trees glowed with white lights, and decorations in colors of black and red truly captured the true essence of a Cabaret scene.

Some Yelpers "wine'd down" Monday with sweet red wine from Besitos. While others opted for a refreshing local brew from White Street Brewing Company. Tito's shook the night up with a mixture of vodka and fresh squeezed watermelon juice from Cold Off The Press. Heather B "thoroughly enjoyed the Tito-Hydramelon cocktail, a delicious summer cocktail. It was so light and refreshing and the vodka was smooth. It seemed like a healthy indulgence?!"

Guests helped themselves to martini glasses full of shrimp and grits and rigatoni bolognese. Brittany G a self proclaimed grits hater declares "these were amazing, creamy and smooth, with a yummy hint of....Is that....BACON? You can win me over with bacon if you haven't noticed."

Food Collage Oh-la-la what else could this night have in store for our guests! Yelpers gazed, aahed, and oohed as professional burlesque dancers: Purrrrl Van Dammit, Pandora von Kit, Raquel, and Miss Rachel Riot took over the patio in their own sultry and sexy dance routines. As Christina G notes "the entertainment was top-notch."

Yelpers were busy making memories of the evening, by getting decked out in boas and top hats for some photo-boothing fun for all by Shutterbooth.

Ron W captured the evening perfectly in his review "way too much silliness for a Monday night, with lots of fishnet stockings, hydramelon and besitos wine. I am speechless."

Yelp’s Green Party At The Revelry

Posted by Breanna

Hospitality and sustainability were the name of the game at Yelp’s Green Party. Elites gathered at The Revelry to indulge in the Southern charm of one of Rochester’s newest additions to the restaurant scene and got the skinny on Greentopia.

Yelp's Green Party - The Revelry collage

Boasting a coveted spot in an up-and-coming nook of University Ave, The Revelry morphed the space, built in the 1800s, into a hauntingly beautiful restaurant fueled by influences of the South Carolina-bred owner, Josh Miles.

Yelp's Green Party - Food collage

Helpings of hors d’oeuvres for nibbling were brought out in flights. Honoring the Lowcountry of the South, the menu featured bite-size crostinis with boiled peanut hummus, pimento cheese fritters, carrot soup shooters, and crab-topped fried green tomatoes. An unlikely favorite of the evening was the carrot soup. Hope C said she’d return “just for a bowl of that amazing silky texture and faux-bacon flavor truly gastronomical!”

Yelp's Green Party - bar

“Cocktails were on point, as always,” notes Arvid Y, which includes The Green Fairy  a concoction of absinthe, lemon, and sparking wine – the featured cocktail of the evening was nothing short of whimsical. The liquid courage lured the guests to SnapPodNY’s pop-up photobooth. Nabbing a few wacky hats and moustaches, the Elites brought their smiles and took home a printout to remember the night.

What’s more, the yelpers were green with envy awaiting all the exciting things coming to this year’s weeklong Greentopia festivities. For many, this was the first time they learned of the event, which expanded this year to include sustainably-minded events like the Futures Summit, EcoFest, Film, and Art/Design. Janice A is “sure to add Greentopia to her September calendar!”

Many thanks, as always, to Lauren McLaughlin photography, Greg at SnapPodNY, Jenna and Josh, and all of The Revelry staff, along with Greentopia for co-hosting the event!

Yelp Elites Roll on Down the River at Morgan Brookville Canoe!

Posted by Cindy

Yelp Morgan's August 11, 2013 IMG_6806

"It was a beautiful weekend, so" the Yelp Cincy elites "finally Left a Good Job in the City, Workin' for the Man Every Night and Day, and headed out to the beautiful Whitewater River in Indiana.  And thanks to Yelp and Morgan's Canoe, we were soon Rollin', Rollin', Rollin' on the River..." do do do, doot du doot.

Yelp Morgan's August 11, 2013 IMG_6730

Yelp's Rollin' on the River elite event was held at Morgan Brookville Canoe in beautiful Brookville, Indiana. Yelpers made the scenic drive out to what was sure to be a fun active day in the sun!

Yelp Morgan's August 11, 2013 IMG_6617

"Mr. Morgan himself graciously welcomed our group and spoke to us about his establishment. It is always great to see someone who is so passionate about their business and Mr. Morgan embodied this." - Kara C

P.S. You can rent out this gorgoues back patio for parties! Check it out on their website here!

"Once we got our super neat canoe lesson, Yelpers gathered up their belongings (floaties included), threw on a pair of their favorite Yelp sunglasses and we were on our way to the River!

"We were given an option of a kayak or canoe." Kara C and her husband "chose the canoe so we would have enough room for our stuff (AKA beer). This was a great choice for us and we had a lot of fun! We somehow made it the entire trip without flipping over once or getting a divorce. Success!"

"I'm from the Pacific Northwest and love the water. Being focused on life in the city, I often forget outdoor escapes exist. This was a great reminder!" Christine M admits, "This was a lot of fun and I thank Yelp, once again, for a great introduction" to this awesome local business!

"This event couldn't have landed on a better day, weather-wise. It was absolutely gorgeous out. I loved paddling a bit, then letting the kayak glide on its own. It was so relaxing to lean back and look up at the trees, the bright blue sky, and the birds. It was quite a nice reminder of how lovely it is to disconnect from the rest of the world and go on a little adventure like this." - Lauren M

"Sarah D shares, "Once again Yelp has opened me up to a whole new world that never knew I loved! I had such a blast on this outdoor adventure that I immediately told all my friends and family about it and they didn't believe that I went. Sarah canoeing? Inconceivable! Well not anymore—I'm coming back later this month for my step-son's birthday and I'm even branching out to maybe taking a hike!"

Yelp Morgan's August 11, 2013 IMG_6722

After a long day on the River the Yelp elites reconviened for a delicious pizza and popsicle party! ""The pizza from Pizza King was great!" Stephen B shares "Overall, I think that this was a great idea for an event. I'm glad to see Cindy is thinking outside the box, and doing some active events. This was one of my favorite elite events so far!"

"My husband and I have been talking about going canoeing all summer and Yelp provided a great opportunity to try a place that we had actually contemplated. Morgan's Brookville Canoe will be our new go-to for outdoor river adventures and we're already starting to plan our second adventure there." - Krystyna C

But don’t just take our word on the day's awesomeness, you can read all the reviews right here. You can also check out the other action shots by photographer extraordinaire John Borntrager on our Official Yelp Facbook Page!

A HUGE thank you to everyone at Morgan Brookville Canoe who made this event possible, especially Mr. Gary Morgan! Go see them and cross that last adventure off your Yelp Cincy Summer Bucket List before the Summer's gone!

MD Burbs Elite Camp: Mojitos, Moose, And A Bog Down In The Valley-Oh!

Posted by Mike Bishop

Hey ho! The rattlin bog, the bog down in the valley-oh! That was one of the camp songs that the MD Burbs Elite Squad shouted from the rooftop of Pyramid Atlantic. Yelp Elite’s were welcomed to Yelp Goes To Summer Camp this past Sunday at the communal art studio in Silver Spring, Maryland. Pyramid Atlantic is a very unique non-profit that offers art studio space with professional equipment to anyone and everyone in the community to rent out.  Pyramid Atlantic boasts equipment to make art in the form of letterpress, screen prints, wood block prints, papermaking, bookmaking, glassmaking, and more.

Libby F poses the question: “Wanna know what makes me a happy camper? I mean, besides sipping mojitos on a hot summer day?  Spending two hours at day camp- paper and book making, screen printing, and lest we not forget, 'smores and ice cream eating!” Elite’s got to sip on Community Manger Mike B’s authentic recipe for the Cuban concoction while toasting up marshmallows on small ceramic grills!” Highlights included partygoers getting to print out an original piece of MD Burbs Elite Squad art via an already adapted screen. Surely something to take home and show mom!

Photos of all of these hot shot campers were captured by Decarlo Brown Photography. Decarlo Brown, who freelances in his free time, is actually the Assistant Director of Photographic Services at Towson University.

A Sphinx sized thanks goes out to Jose Dominguez who acted as Camp Director during Yelp’s Summer Camp, and acts as Executive Director of Pyramid Atlantic year round. He really connected Yelpers with this great local nonprofit in so many unique ways. All of this crazy fun was free to the Yelp Elites who have cemented their awesomness online in the Yelp community! How do you become elite? It’s easier than you think : go here- www.yelp.com/elite.

Happy campers walked away from the raffle with Pyramid Atlantic housemade art, big bags of candy, and a belly full of ice cream and smores!

Thank you everyone who came out and relived a small piece of their childhood.  Camp ended on a high-note with the whole crew going up to the rooftop of Pyramid Atlantic to sing camp songs Da Mooze & Rattlin' Blog to downtown Silver Spring.

Yelp Detroit's Chef's Tasting Dinner at Kuroshio

Posted by Annette

Detroit elites love a good multi-course dinner (who doesn't!) and Ann Arbor hot spot Kuroshio delivered! Nearly 70 elites and their guests sat down in their swanky digs for a decadent 7 course dinner with beer, wine, and sake pairings for an event that Colette N dubbed, "a terrific night out."

The night began with a salad course with a featured apple vinaigrette dressing followed by a creamy lobster chowder. Course number 3? A fresh tuna ceviche. 4? An array of sushi rolls paired with a tasty Japanese beer. Courses 5 and 6 featured duck breast with eggplant and chilean seabass served with a miso cream, edemame and carrots and each dish was paired with wine and a smooth sake (respectively). The final course was a mango shaved ice topped with juicy exploding boba that Edward L found "sweet and light." I'm feeling delightfully full just thinking about it!

A multitude of thanks go to Alan and the team at Kuroshio for their attentive service and attention to detail through the evening. No guest left hungry (even the vegetarians who got their own special menu!) and the service was outstanding. Addtional thanks go to Kieley and the team at Quack!Media for helping us put this event together, yelptern Chelcie W for her assistance through the evening, Doug Coombe for the lovely photos, and all of our Yelp elites who were so excited about this event that we had a +100% attendence rate for the first time ever!

Yelp's Summer Mixtape Swap In LES

Yelpers threw together their favorite songs of summer and traded tunes at LES' new rockstar cocktail venue, Hill And Dale. Quite simply, when Hill & Dale opened their doors roughly two months ago, Lower East Side became a better neighborhood because of it. Specializing in small, sharable plates, great cocktails, and local craft beers and wines... it's got the markings of a perennial powerhouse your great grandkids will be drinking at generations from now. Hdcollage2

Throughout the course of this rain-soaked affair, Yelpers noshed on fried risotto balls, fresh-shucked oysters, seasonal pate with summer berries, an array of inventive deviled eggs, and more. Hdcollage1

On the cocktail side of things, Hill And Dale's expert gun slingers whipped up sulty bevvies featuring G'Vine gin courtesy of our pals at Domaine Select. With house punches and creations like the G'vine + Aperol + St. Germain + lemon juice... it made for a refreshing way to wind down a Monday in Manhattan.Hdcollage3

Throw Hill And Dale + G'Vine some Facebook love... and be sure to check out the photos and reviews.

NoVA Elites Show Their Patriotic Side at Blackfinn's Ameripub

Posted by Gretchen

Oh say, can you see an awesome (and handily patriotic) happy hour? Can you see a bevy of delectable treats, and an eye-boggling list of America's finest drafts and brews? Well, at Yelp's American Tale held at Blackfinn Ameripub, Northern Virginia Elites saw all that... and more!

American Tale Collage
Elites were treated to a smorgasbord of treats from Blackfinn's menu, including things like bacon-wrapped meatloaf, crabcakes, baked brie, and an array of their delicious flatbreads! Guests also partook in an extended happy hour highlighting domestic drafts and their vast array of beltway brews! American classic tunes played over the speakers, and a grand time was had by all. Don't believe me? Just see for yourself!

"NOVA needs more happy hour spots like BlackFinn," raves Lyn L. "They have got some pretty impressive happy hour specials." And for new Elite Megan C, her first Elite Event did not disappoint. "I look forward to returning to Blackfinn for HH/dinner sometime with the fiancé, but also to the next NoVA Elite Event!"

Yelp Channels The '90s In Upper West Side

Tapping into a spirit from the early '90s, Yelpers slammed their way to a good time in the Upper West Side by way of the once red hot teen game, pogs! Made popular in Hawaii and enjoying 15 minutes of fame on the mainland for adolescents in the early-mid '90s, it proved to be a flashback to simpler times when car phones were the cat's meow and you'd never catch a member of the Cyrus family twerking on the VMAs.Btcollage1

The venue of choice for this shindig was Bar Thalia in the Upper West Side. A stone's throw from the Columbia campus, Bar Thalia is an intimate 46-seat bar offering signature cocktails and a New American menu in a relaxed and intimate setting. If you've ever hung at the adjoining Symphony Space, you've likely had a drink or two before various productions next door... and they've been known to house quite the fun trivia night every Wednesday that's become a staple in the quiz game circles.Btcollage2

Small bites made the rounds from Bar Thalia's kitchen, and our pals at Lagunitas kept thirst at bay with an array of products including their signature IPA, the "Little Sumpin Sumpin", as well as their harder-to-find Censored Copper Ale. Keep tabs on them via Facebook, and be sure to snag one of their burrrs next time you see them around New York City.

Check out photos of the fun here, and be sure to scope reviews of the event as well.

Yelp's Boerderijdag!

Posted by Philippine

Zaterdagmiddag 24 augustus, 2013: Onze Yelp Boerderijdag kon beginnen!

------------- IN ENGLISH ---------

Leave Amsterdam for a day and go to.... The farm! We all know that milk comes from cows - but how? And what is it like to spend one day on a dairy farm? That's what we Amsterdam Elites experienced Saturday 24th August, 2013!

Our friends from Uber drove us to Zorgboerderij Ons Verlangen - a farm just north of the city. Here rules the Disseldorp-family; 4 generations of this family live, work, and sustain the business. As farmer's life dictates: we had to work for our food... The moment we arrived, we had to prepare our dinner with produce from their own vegetable garden. Accompanied by drinks & good company, it was fun to sit at the long table chatting & cooking away! Next up: we received a brilliant tour from owner Nico; he explained what they do (125 acres of land and almost 500 animals to feed, to look after, and how does a farm actually work as a business?) and that they're also a non-profit organization. 25 people, which they call 'helping farmers' with physical, pshychological, and mentally challenges 'work' on the farm; they are helping, learning, and blossoming under the supervision of this family! Oh yes - Farm Life.jpg

We had cuddled rabbits, petted calfs, chased chicken... Oh hello farm life! After the beautiful tour and dinner, it was time for the Highlight of the day: Milking the cows! Dressed in blue overalls and farmer's booths - it was time to attend these ladies. Nico explained to us how it all works (the machinery looks like it comes straight out of a sci-fi film) and there we went... Have you ever milked a cow? DO IT! It is hilarious! And check out this cheeky kitten - she went straight for the fresh milk. Milking Milking Baby....jpg

Yelp Helps Albuquerque!

Posted by Howie

While there's nothing wrong with being bad on occasion, there's nothing better than doing good, and last week in Albuquerque the inaugural Yelp Helps celebration kicked off strong partnerships with some of the very, very best. The general public and the Yelp community descended on the South Valley Economic Development Center for an evening of eats, drinks, and connections with our nonprofit rockstars.

PicMonkey Collage(1.1)

The stellar attendees were literally treated to some of the city's best food and drinks. Terrific green chile 'n queso sliders (topped with Doritos) awaited visitors of Bistronomy B2B; ahhmazing wood-fired pizza came out of Ahhromahs mobile oven; holy cannoli, Joe's Pasta House piled on the plates; a bevy of yummy, gluten-less baked goods decked out the Mean Bao table. Everything was washed down with local and national brews from Admiral BeverageCowboy Up mixed some tasty, all natural energy drinks; and Squeezed Juice Wagon blended some astounding green and orange smoothies.

Let's not lose sight of why we came, though. Some of the most vibrant, impactful, and downright cool organizations in and around the south valley came out to show off how they help Albuquerque. La Cosecha, The Mixing Bowl, TEDxABQ, Rio Grande Community Development Corporation, Cornucopia Family Services, PB&J Family Services, Delicious New Mexico, Accion New Mexico and Casa de Salud provided color and substance to the party, and then there was A/WAY, who brought plates, silverware, and wash tubs. Attendees washed their own dishes and kept the trash bins free of styrofoam, plastic and paper. Crazy, feel-good smart.

Thank you to Asa Kennedy for his on-site artistic rendering of the evening, and Bébé La La for the sweet sounds. Big props to Aimee K for coming out from St. Louis to make sure the show was a success. The Center was the perfect venue for this inaugural celebration, the hub of nonprofit energy in the south valley, and the hosts were great at letting the night unfold with ease.

Did you miss it, or just want to catch your smiling face in the photos? Lucky for you, Eon Photography was there to capture the evening (peep the photos here). Drop a review if you were there, or just see what everyone is saying. By the way – have you connected with Yelp Albquerque on Facebook and Twitter yet? Downloaded the mobile app? What are you waiting for? How else are you going to find out about the best of the Duke City...

Until next time, keep those reviews coming, and we'll see you on Yelp!

Sunday Funday: Yelp Elite Do The Dive At Harrah's!

Posted by Trish

The Yelp Elite Squad dived into the end of summer with a VIP poolside soiree courtesy of Harrah's Rincon Casino and Resort, 'ritas Cantina and the hottest new scene in town: Dive Dayclub! It was a Yelp Does Dive Sunday Funday with perfect weather and excellent food at the newly remodeled resort destination. NCSD Yelp Elites relaxed lazy river style and soaked in the adult-only Dive Ultra Pool, complete with cabanas, daybeds and Southern California's only swim up bar. Collage1

With transportation to and fro, guests grabbed their bikinis for some no stress fun in the sun and descended upon Dive with house-ware donations in hand for our charitable partner, Casa de Amparo. Yelp Elites indulged in a 3-hour pool party trifecta with rides in the brand new lazy river, sun in our exclusive Yelp Does Dive Lounge, and relaxation in the remodeled poolside.Collage2

Bites from 'ritas Cantina really took the cake, horchata cheesecake that is! Double buffets greeted Yelp Elite upon entry to our exclusive area. The savory spread included two stations featuring ceviche and Baja seafood cocktails, carved steak tampiqueña, a street taco station, and a nacho bar as well as those delicious churro-like cheesecake desserts and tropical popcicles.  Food

The best bartenders in the biz kept us cool and muddled up a selection of signature craft margaritas and cocktails like the delicious Pepper Melon 'ritas, Cucumber 'ritas and a crowd favorite, the Harradise (Bacardi Oakheart rum, sweet tea vodka, apricot brandy, fresh lemon, Sierra Mist and strawberry puree). A selection of beers, mixed drinks and alcohol free beverages were also available and the group loved the Dive Dayclub beach balls, sunglasses and schwag cups!Final

Thanks to Harrah's Rincon Resort, the gorgeous Dive Dayclub and the staff, Chef and crew from 'ritas Cantina! Yelp's Beach Day: Asbury Park

Posted by Stephanie

Gym, tan, Yelp. We did it! We're stronger than the storm (#stts) and we survived Yelp's Beach Day in Asbury Park. Amanda C can't think of anything better "than a summer Friday off of work to play in the surf, relax in the sand and sun, and sip on delicious drinks while looking out over the ocean. And we were lucky enough to do it all in the company of some cool peeps, not just from Philly, but also Jersey and New York!Collage4The beach was fun, but the highlight of the day was at Watermark, Asbury Park's premier spot on the boardwarlk. Pat R "loved the beer they were serving... Definitely a big fan of Beach Haus beer now" while Baramee C sipped on the housemad infused pear vodka cocktail, the "perfect summer drink and so deliciously refreshing." Mitch E found the food incredible. "Jumbo shrimp, mozzarella and sliced tomatoes, at least three different kinds of humus spreads, spinach dip and cheese plate" satiated this hungry man.  PicMonkey CollageThanks to all the Yelpers who came out and spent a fun day Friday with us! Thanks to Watermark, Beach Haus, Smirnoff, Allied Beverages and Great Heights Media for making this a summer skip day for the books. We can't wait for next year!

Check out all the pics and read what the Yelpers are sayin'!

Until next time, SYOY! CMs

Yelp Toronto's Roman Holiday @ Osteria dei Ganzi

Posted by Evelyn W

200 of Toronto's bellas donned black and white and took in the beauty (and treats) at Osteria dei Ganzi's Yelp's Roman Holiday.

Ganzi itself is sure to be Toronto's next big restaurant. Jenny N nails it: "The building's architecture was incredible and we really enjoyed checking out the ceilings, wood carvings, lamps and stained glass. The staff were all wonderful: Super friendly and informative about all the passed food. In fact, I don't think I've been served by a nicer bunch of people." And their wrap-around patio on Jarvis St, well, that speaks for itself.

The authentic Italian eats (prepared by a singing chef, who later went on to serenade the crowd) poured out of the kitchen, with something for everyone, all night long. Kate H would sacrafice herself for the "to-die-for truffle tapenade" and Ankita D favoured the dessert donuts. Her exact quote? "Orgasm." We'll have what she's having.

Drinks flowed like the Trevvi Fountain, just ask Johnson C: "Sharply dressed Elites were merrymaking with plenty of free-flowing booze in the form of Campari and Aperol cocktails and Italian (King's Blonde and Amber) beer. The staff was very friendly and efficient."

Did I mention I was serenaded by the chef?

Until next time, enjoy la dolce vita,

Yelp Chicagoland's Night At The Venue: Jay Leno

Posted by Candice Gatlin

Yelp Elites got lucky at Horseshoe Casino of Hammond's Sixth Street Bar & The Venue with generous amounts of gourmet bites, craft beer, and the comedy stylings of THE Jay Leno for Yelp Chicagoland's first ever Elite event in Northwest Indiana - Yelp's Night At The Venue: Jay Leno

Elites kicked off the action-packed evening at Horseshoe's premier craft beer lounge, Sixth Street Bar, where Elites got more than a little hoppy with the 30+ locally brewed and imported craft beers on tap and endless lite bites by Horseshoe's top Chefs... and that was just the pre-show! When it came time for the show to go on, Elites headed to The Venue, Horseshoe's state-of-the-art entertainment facility, for specialty cocktails at the theater's built-in bar and loads of laughs courtesy of Mr Jay Leno!

You can read all the reviews HERE and spy a few of our favorite quotes from the event below:

"I'd like to thank Horseshoe Casino for having us as their guests of honor last night. We had a great time at Sixth Street Bar sampling a great selection of craft and local beers while attentive casino employees made sure our hors d'oeuvres selection was continually refilled. As we double-fisted drinks into The Venue's seating area, we sat down to enjoy a classic Leno show. How often does one get to see a celebrity of Leno's status live? It was an awesome experience, to say the least. While roaming around after the show, my wife tried out a slot machine and we walked away over $100 richer! What a great way to top off an already superb evening! ~ Phil S

"This event was well worth the drive across the State line! With all the drinks I was bestowed, I had to make multiple trips to the bathroom during the show. That wasn't a problem, though, since The Venue broadcasts the show over the speakers in the lobby and restrooms!" ~ Misty S

"What can I say? This was such a freaking blast! Not only did I get to try some new craft beer and hear some jokes, I was also able to lose my ass on the way out. My favorite 'bite' was the Tuna Tartar. I could have kept eating it all night, a la Homer Simpson at the All You Can Eat Seafood Buffet. Just pour it directly down my throat, please! This was my 2nd show at The Venue. Jay killed it and I found myself laughing louder than I should have at a few jokes." ~ Courtney C

"I met a few people on this night who were attending their first event. Just so ya'll know, you won't be seeing a famous person at every event. I feel redundant because I say something along the lines of "this event was my favorite" whenever I review one of these, but I'm saying it again. This event was THE truth. Let me break it down for you: Choose from a myriad of good beers, get some snacks, sit yo' ass down and converse for a bit before you hear some jokes. Seeing Jay Leno perform was surreal. This was a special one, folks. I feel privileged." ~ Mark "Geezy" G

"We mingled and drank delicious beers in Sixth Street Bar -- which is tucked in the back of the casino and has an wonderful collection of craft beers -- before heading up to the Venue and laughing our butts off as Jay Leno cracked jokes on stage. Our seats were actually really good as we could still see Leno well on the stage and the giant screens on either side." ~ Laura N

"The tender beef on the tortilla chip was my favorite bite. After a couple rounds at the roulette table, we headed upstairs to The Venue. The seats at The Venue were nice and squishy and after a short opening act, Jay walked out on stage. We really enjoyed the show!  He was funny without crossing too many lines which I really like when I see a comedian." ~ Jennifer S

"I lovedddd this event!!! I had so much friggin fun! I don't know how all the pieces added up (Over the border event, an event at a casino, an event seeing Jay Leno, an event at the craft beer pub at Horseshoe) but somehow they did and everyone who attended had a fabulous night! Horseshoe has a fun crowd but in the back of the casino is a gem - Sixth Street. A craft beer spot in an Indiana casino, who knew!? It's definitely the hot spot of the casino complete with cute bartender. Sixth Street was generous in the appetizers they provided us buffet style with my personal favorite being the tuna tartare - a bit of spice and everything nice." ~ Sarah S

"We've been to Las Vegas once and never been to a casino around here so this was an adventure for us. The Sixth Street craft beer bar was really cool. The Venue was huge and you could see well from wherever you were sitting. We loved the big screens so you could see the facial expressions. The sound was perfect. The opening musical duo were actually quite good and we were struck by how one singer and one acoustic guitar player could command such a big stage. The main event, Jay Leno, was great! It was really fun to get to see him do live standup, especially at this point in his career." ~ Kara Z

"This was my first attending a Yelp event and I suspect I'll be trying to attend many more in the future. Nights like this are unexpected surprises in life. I'll be back to make more memories even though I'm not normally much of a casino fan." ~ Phil S

Thanks to the 2013 Yelp Chicagoland Elite Squad for coming out and a BIG THANKS to the entire staff at Sixth Street Bar, The Venue, and Horseshoe Casino for the unforgettable evening of craft beer, big wins, and even bigger laughs for Jay Leno!

Birmingham Elite Yelpers Scavenge The Magic City

Posted by Will

Yelp gave Elites and future-Elites alike the chance to show who knows Birmingham the best.  The Yelp/Instagrambham Magic City Scavenger Hunt took folks from the Avondale valley, to the top of Red Mountain, and everywhere in between.  All teams were able to (eventually) figure out the clues and find their way to the Freshfully finish line and the free food, drinks, and prizes

Scavenger collage1

Yelpers arrived at Avondale Park and were quickly sent out in search of the first clue that was hidden within walking distance.  Within minutes they were jumpig in their cars and off to the first location. At each stop the hunters had to "check-in" to the business on Yelp and tag the business, YelpBirmingham, and Instagrambham in a picture they uploaded to Instagram.  All that was left was figuring out the clues.  The stops included Faith Skate, What's on 2nd, Good People, Vulcan Park, Church Street, and ended with a party at Freshfully.

Scavenger Collage2

Freshfully decided to go all out and spoil the participants with homemade salsa and chips, pimento cheese and BLTs. "I'm still swooning over those swine-filled sammiches," says Danielle S. The BLT's were made with thick-cut Conecuh bacon, local Alabama tomatoes and lettuce, and a thin slathering of mayo.  To wash it all down, Avondale Brewing provided two kegs of their tasty brew.  Needless to say, the hoppy refreshments were a big hit.

I want to give a huge thanks to Freshfully, Avondale Brewing, and all the busineeses along the hunt for being a part of this overly succesful Yelp Elite Event.  As the Yelp community manager in a relatively new market, it's a lot of fun to see people show up to these events, enjoy themselves, and learn what Yelp is really about... connecting communities with local businesses. If you were lucky enough to be there, please go post a review of the the party and let everyone know what they missed.  If you don't want to be left out of future get togethers like this one, go check out how to become a member of the Eilte Squad.

Yelp Brisbane's Road Trip Elite Event to Helm Bar Surfers

Posted by Lani P.

Spring has sprung early in Brisbane and Yelp's Elite Squad took advantage of the sunny skies with a road trip to Helm Bar Surfers. Climbing aboard our Limoso 30 seater luxury coach, affectionately nick-named "The Yelp Express", we departed from Brisbane's Roma Street Transit centre ready for adventure.

PicMonkey Collage3
Tummies may have been rumbling by the time 28 Yelpers arrived on the coast, but that was soon remedied with the generous pizzas and jam-jar cocktails provided by Helm Bar Surfers. Meat lovers, prawn and scallop and even a peking duck pizza made the rounds of our space on Helm Bar's back deck overlooking the canal waters.

PicMonkey Collage1

The bar, with a "sleek nautical fit out inspired by its sister venue in Sydney" impressed us all with it's modern take on dining on the Gold Coast. And sipping on cocktails with names like Basil Brush, Ginny Hendricks, and Louisiana Jamma we certainly felt like we were living the lifestyles of the rich and famous.

PicMonkey Collage4
Thanks to the team at Helm Bar Surfers, especially Kate and Sandra, for their superb hospitality and to Limoso for getting us from A to B.

Want to see more photos? Check them out here. Read the reviews and find out how you can become a part of Brisbane's Yelp Elite Squad.

See You On Yelp,

YelpYEG Elite Event: Red Hot Rosso Nights!

Posted by Jennie

Rosso; the colour of passion, the colour of wine and the colour of Rosso Pizzeria's signature San Marzano tomato sauce!  With a sizzling Red Hot theme for the night, YelpYEG Elites kick up the hotness factor and donned fashions from the fire range of the colour wheel. They received the Royal Roma treatment and partied like VIPs, Italian style, at the newly opened chic pizzeria boutique in the grand Ol' Garneau.

To start things off, the amazing staff of Rosso brought out plank after plank of charcuterie, cheese boards, antipasto, bruschetta and salads. The feasting continued with authentic Italian pizzeria offering from a true wood fire pizza oven. From classic to contemporary flavours, we tried the gamete of thin crust pizza perfection! "I am pretty confident that this pizza is made on the best crust I have ever tasted! Unique flavours combined to make some of the most interesting (in a VERY GOOD way) pizza I have ever had!" asserted Amanda F. Then Lucky Elites where taken into the kitchen to learn how to stretch pizza dough, laser calibrate the perfect room temperature to cook in a wood fire oven and even how to use that big stick used to rotate the 'zza in the ovens! " Learning how to make the pizza was so much fun - what an experience! The chef was very patient with us and showed us how to stretch out the dough and slide it off the pizza wheel at the right angle into the scorching hot oven" noted Jenn C. Last but certainly not least, we must not forget the unlimited gelato tasting availabe: “Ladies dressed in red and spicy pizza made this a hot event but it was kept cool with many flavors of gelato,” gushed George H.

With all that spectacular food equally amazing libations were needed and the Horizon Brewery team of Vince and Scott did not disappoint! They were full of knowledge and skilled in the Ale Arts! Pouring 3 unique and incredibly complex drafts from Europe, everyone found something to love... or two, or three. There was the Austrian Maisels Weisse Original; mildly spicy with notes of malt, fruit, clove and a touch of nutmeg. An excellent all-round beer. Next was the strong dark ale, Gouden Carolus Classic, named for Emperor Charles V and possibly Belgian’s oldest remaining brewery. It wowed the crowd with a thin texture, big flavour and caramely, brandy, fruitcake-esk notes. And then there was the spectacular St Bernardus Abt 12. An Abbey ale brewed in the classic ‘Quadrupel’ style. Dark, full with a long bittersweet finish and complex flavours. This 10% abv is regarded worldwide as one of the best beers in the world! "For some strange (good) reason, two of my all time favorites were in the list: St Bernardus and Maisel'a Weisse!" disclosed Arty S. - We aim to please Arty! For those whom prefer bubbles to beer, the fabulous Barbara from WineQuest was on site with Prosecco Giall’Oro Ruggeri. This prosecco is like Quentin Tarantino meets Andrea Bocelli: Explosive and expressive with enchantingly resonant and beautiful notes.

When it comes to a fabulous party it's all in the details! And the mood was perfectly set for Red Hot Roman style soiree with some help from our friends. AXE Productions provided a six-foot projection screen playing black & white classics La Dolce Vida and Roman holiday."Us gals were spoiled by beautiful red roses in the powder room" as Janice LeLacheur of Janice's Grower Direct and Fresh Cut Flowers provided a gorgeous bouquet, "I felt like I stepped onto the set of the Bachelorette washing my hands in a sink filled with rose petals!" divulged Kristin K. And finally, to capture this magical evening on FILM and man the Nutella Photo Booth was a new resident Yelp Photographer, the very talented (and handsome, noted the ladies!) Emmet Adriaans of Emmet Adriaans Photography. Thank you so much Emmet, Janice, team AXE, Dave and his staff at Rosso; you are what makes Etown the City Of Champions!

Until Next Time...See You On Yelp.

Yelp Calgary Gets Into The Swing Of Things!

Posted by Wendy

What happens when you mix great local food and drink vendors, the Yelp Calgary Elite Squad, a community hall and a crew of happenin' swing dancers? Only the most fun way we could think to spend our Thursday night... a swing dance party!

Yelpers and guests got all dolled up and descended on the Social Hall at the Hillhurst-Sunnyside Community Association, nearly 3,800 sq feet of space, for a swinging good time!

"What a lovely party!" exclaimed Tiffany N. "Literally lovely, because so many people got fancy and I love me a good dress up occasion. Everywhere I turned was a gorgeous lady with a perfect red pout, or a dapper gentleman with a button up and braces."

Guests were treated to cupcakes from Crave Cookies & Cupcakes; a housemade watermelon gazpacho from Caffe Francesco; pork belly and a flourless brownie from Midtown Kitchen; coffee from Postino Cafe; boozy Manhattans from Gibson's Finest Canadian Whisky; the Scottish Heavy Ale, IPA and SAAZ Republic Pilz from Big Rock Brewery; and wine and snacks sponsored by WaterSeal Technology (a Calgary company keeping your smartphone safe from accidental water damage).

"The highlight for me was Midtown's delicious pork bites," concluded Christine L. "My friends loved the cupcakes generously provided by Crave - moist cake and delightfully sweet frosting!"

It wouldn't be a swing dance without our friends at Toe Tappin' Swing to show us a few moves! Local instructors were on hand to start us off with a group lesson and broke us off into pairs to learn the Charleston – no previous experience required! These instructors get people on the dance floor for lessons every Friday night!

An extra thanks to Jodde M of YYCPhotography.ca for all the fab party pictures!

Yelp Louisville Elite Event: Sea and Snap

Posted by Megan

At the Sea and Snap Elite event last night, a smorgasbord of seafood and apps were presented and Yelpers and guests had their phones out and their mouths watering. Ok, the mouths watering part didn't last long because we dug into Mitchell's Fish Market's spread of shrimp cocktail, poppy vinaigrette dressed salad with dates, spicy asian shrimp, calamari and more. As Melanie K puts it, "this five star time had both signature cocktails of shrimp and liquor aplenty." With beer, wine and liquor options to choose from our glasses were always full!

We did hold off from tasting long enough to capture everything on film, and got to see it all the #seandsnap and #yelplouelite photos in real-time on our live feed through the TVs at the center of the bar. Our MO for the night was Sea, Snap, Eat, (and most importantly) Repeat. And for no other reason than Polaroids are awesome, we made a non-tech live feed too! Everyone got to nominate one person for best photo and by the end of the night we had our standout winners: @r2thekesh (Rakesh G) for Human Shrimp Holder and Kelly O both won and each took home a nifty pack of Yelp swag and Mitchell's gift cards!

Thanks again to everyone for making this event "two snaps" (as Daphne A tweeted) — and of course to Mitchell's for serving up the subject of our food porn. Plus, special thanks to all the Elites and guests for coming out to sea and snap up a storm! Also, Vaughn Corum did an great job once again with the official photos and you can check out all of them on our Flickr page.

Cocktails And Cornbread At Magnolia Tap & Kitchen

On Tuesday evening, San Diego Elites and guests were given the star treatment at Yelp's Cocktails And Cornbread hosted by Magnolia Tap & Kitchen! A new addition to the Gaslamp District, Magnolia features a drink and comfort cuisine menu that's sure to make your mouth water. Their doors officially opened for business about three months ago and the Elites were given a taste of what this much talked about restaurant has to offer with a two hour private party! As Brian Hiller struck his first chord the floodgates opened, the food and beverages flowed and the interior design details made our collective jaws drop. What a "great event with real Southern (California) charm! I can't wait to come back" raves, Natalie F!

So what exactly was the Elite Squad and their guests treated to? Take a look and try not to drool on your keyboard...

Habanero Cornbread / Smoked Peach Butter
Dry Rub Chicken Wings / Maytag Bleu Cheese
Baby Back Ribs / House BBQ Sauce
Bacon Burger Sliders / Roasted Garlic Aioli
Carnitas Sliders / Guacamole
Pecan Pie / Bourbon Whipped Cream

They are rolling out their "Cocktail List 2.0" to you!
1887 - gin/rhubarb/chartreuse/domain de canton/lemon/black pepper
Winchester - bourbon/lemon/lime/vanilla/egg white
Spanish Fly - tequila/creme yvette/campari/rhuby/lime
Grampa's Medicine - jameson/campari/fernet/peychaud's/cherry
Gullywash - coconut gin/coconut water/sweet cream/nutmeg
There was also some local moonshine tastings, local beer tastings, bourbon tastings and wine tastings

Conrad R sums it up: "The staff are top notch and working hard. Servers check on our table several times. Food trays are flying out of the kitchen and the bartenders are shaking & pouring fancy drinks. Delicious and potent? A dangerous combination."

As always, countless props go out to the lucky group of Elites in attendance for bringing Yelptastic attitudes and snapping all the pictures that were contributed to the event page. You can find additional photos on the Yelp Flickr page and the party reviews can be found here!

Yelp OC's Meatless Monday

Posted by Ryan C.

Though the timing was unintentional, Elites definitely had a meatless Monday this past week at one of Veggie Grill's newest locations, Crossroads Shopping Center in Irvine.

From the moment the guests arrived, food was coming out fast and furious where lucky attendees sampled items such as:

- Tomato Basil Soups
- Buffalo Wings
- Chill Out Wings
- Savory Kale Caesar Salads
- All Hail Kale Salads
- Thai Chickin' Salads
- VG Cheeseburgers
- Santa Fe Crispy Chickin' Sandwiches
- Carne Asada Sandwiches
- Baja "Fish" Tacos
- Chickin' Tacos
- Chocolate Pudding Parfaits
- Carrot Cakes
+ more!

Mari H said it best: "We started off with a Tomato Basil soup, then the faux chicken wings hit the table with two sauces. Would you like a beer? Yes please! And it just kept coming. Thankfully larger items were divided into fours and desserts into small cups. We definitely got fed."

Food Collage
Were the vegetarians in the house happy? Just ask Sandya N as she gloats, "There was so much delicious food that there wasn't an unbuckled belt in the house. I got to try so many scrumptious  items I've never had before, like the chicken fingers, kale Caesar salad, the carne asada sandwich, and the fish tacos. And it was so exciting for me to be able to sample to my heart's content without worrying if any of the items had meat or animal bits in it. Hooray!!"

Even self-proclaimed carnivores like Morgan H were gushing about their experiences. "I have to admit, I really enjoy eating meat so I was super scared of having a vegan meal. But I was completely impressed! All of the "meat" actually tasted like meat." Even her table mate Jennifer B couldn't believe the resemblance and now Ms. H vows "I will definitely come back for that salad. I've been converted!"

The staff was top notch making sure that plates were picked up, questions were answered and smiles were being served all around. Sara Y confirms: "Service was amazing and everyone was very friendly and accommodating. I can't wait to return and invite my friends!"  We're with ya on that one!

KC Elites Turn Up The Tunes @ Yelp's Spin Cycle!

Posted by Matt

Question: What do you get when you throw a gaggle of Elites into a room full of great vinyl, locally crafted cocktails and wood fired pizza?

Answer: One heck of a Yelp Elite Event, Yelp's Spin Cycle!

Mills Record Company opened their doors to the Yelp community to show off KC's newest record store, and the only to specialize in new vinyl. Guests shopped up a storm, flipping through records and exploring the shop's well-curated collection of art and fashion by local artisans. And to set the mood, DJ Elgin Smith was on hand to spin his trademark vintage funk and soul.

Record store collage

When you shop up a sweat, you need something to quinch your thirst. Bartenders served up refreshing cocktails featuring CLEAR10 Vodka. Whether guests wanted something spirit-foward or poolside-perfect, this locally distilled liquor kept everybody socially lubricated

For those guests that were hungry for more than great tunes, Prairie Fire Oven rolled up and shared their wood-fired pizzas. Thanks to selections like the Bada Boom (red sauce, mozzarella, sorpasetta, shaved parmesean, basil and chili infused honey) and the Peach Tree (local peaches, tequila-marinated jalopenos, bacon, chili infused honey, gorgonzola, arugula and a tangerine-balsamic drizzle), people forgot all about the traditional pepperoni and sausage. And to take things one step further, specialty pies were made for people with gluten or dairy allergies, ensuring that all guests were free to enjoy the feast.

Pizza Collage

But what's a Yelp event without some fun activities? No Yelp event at all! All guests were encouraged to bring a mix CD to swap, and Yelpers did not disappoint. While some brought discs featuring international pop stars, others recycled mixes made for or by an ex. Mid 90s pop made an appearance, as did classic country. No matter who's mix a Yelper received, they were guaranteed to hear something new. And aren't finding new experiences what being a Yelper is all about?

People Collage 2.10.27 PM

A ton of thanks to everybody that made this event possible. It was a lot of fun exploring a retail business, and I hope we do it again soon!

Until next time, I'll SYOY

Jax Elite Event: Marlin Moon Grille

Posted by Allie

On August 20th, 2013, Jacksonville’s Elites officially landed on The Marlin Moon for an evening of celestial seafood tastings. We orbited one small step to the beach and took one giant leap toward food-kind.

The party blasted off with YelpJax’s newest "crush", the Orange and Ruby Red crushes, draft beer or house wine. As Jax newcomer Anthony H said, "perfect for a relaxing summer evening.”
MM1 Collage

The event proved to be "A Shore Thing" as the chefs specialize in eastern shore seafood. The phases of food began with the bubbly and delicious back fin crab dip with baguettes and the sesame crusted tuna nachos drizzled with a sweet teriyaki sauce.
We know the moon isn’t made of cheese, but after trying Kirby’s crab balls, we are now convinced it’s made out of crab. Forever the jokester, Adam R, aka Mr. Yelp, said “Forgive me if I imagine Chef from South Park breaking into song about these balls for a moment, they are... that good.”
The full moon added to our howlin’ good time and we were hungry like the wolf.  Most graciously served up were seafood rolls, fried jumbo Mayport shrimp with sweet chili sauce, savory oysters Rockefeller and grilled lamb chops. The surprise hit of the night? The buffalo chicken wings that NO ONE could stop talking about.  Debbi C gushes, “The old bay wings were to die for! OMG, they were hot, crispy, and yummy! Actually the best I’ve had in Jax.”

Mm food Collage

The night ended sweetly with Humbleberry tart’s, caramel apple crisps, slices of pecan pie and, might as well make it a tradition, with the Jax Elite jumping pic.

  Mm jump Collage

Summing it up with a few reviews:

“The Food was out of this world good. Marlin Moon did a fabulous job from Brad the Server to the bartender and Big Al made sure of that. You folks sure made a bunch of new friends in the Elite -- A bunch of crazy foodie folks that love to talk about food and where the good stuff is.” Mark B.
And Bill K, “We will be back. Me to try the main courses and for my wife, the wings. I can honestly say that the Marlin Moon Grille will become one of our go to places.”
A huge thank you to the crew that came in on their night off to host us and to Art and Alex Photography, for capturing the fun. Many fans were made and dishes talked about as we drove away, bellies full, into the moonlight.
Until next time, goodnight moon and SYOY!

Yelp Phoenix's Movie Madness at iPic

Yelp went to the movies! And did iPic sure pull out the red carpet. This week, some very lucky Phoenix Elites were invited to iPic for Yelp's Movie Madness, an evening of food, cocktails, popcorn, candy and a show!

First collage

The night began at Salt, the swanky lounge within iPic. Those lucky Elites who were quick with their Yelping fingers, checked in on mobile and received a seat upgrade to enjoy the Premium Plus posh couch-like seats during the movie.

  Yelpers Collage

Throughout the first part of the night, Elites were treated to trays of red and white wine, cocktails from the bar and the very popular nitrogen cocktail that was made in front of their very own eyes! In between sips and tunes from DJ Sterling, Elites found their way to the buffet to load their plates with sliders, quesadillas, flatbreads, skewers, caprese and cheesecake.

With full tummies, iPic opened their doors to theater three for a private screening of Jobs. Upon walking into the theater, the Elites were welcomed by an enticing candy bar with martini glasses filled with every type of candy imaginable! Luckily they had large sodas to sip. After taking a seat in the comfortable theater seating, servers passed out popcorn, the lights went down and the movie began!

A special thank you goes out to iPic, Salt, DJ Sterling and Wrap Arizona Photography for capturing the entire night on camera! If you missed out, be sure to take a look at the pictures and reviews!

Phoenix Elites Dine Around Biltmore Fashion Park

This week, some very lucky Yelp Phoenix Elites got VIP treatment during Yelp’s Dine Around at Biltmore Fashion Park. Throughout the evening, the Elites visited several different restaurants and businesses in the fashion park and enjoyed an education and several tasty samples along the way.

  Collage One

The evening began in the center courtyard of Biltmore Fashion Park, where Elites were greeted by live music from guitarist, Lee Perreira, salad from California Pizza Kitchen, frozen drinks from Paradise Bakery and even a puppy from the Arizona Humane Society! After mixing and mingling with fellow Elites, everyone was split up into two groups and the Dine Around began!

  Julia Baker Collage

Throughout the night, Elites made five different stops. Julia Baker Confections opened their doors for a sweet and enchanting chocolate education by none other then local celebrity, Julia Baker herself. She charmed the crowd with her story, the history of her products and then wowed everyone by providing a plateful of her desserts along with Prosecco and chocolate martinis for everyone to enjoy.

  Williams Sonoma

Williams Sonoma invited the Elites in for a special cooking technique class that taught everyone how to make a perfect pizza and perfect miniature pies! The Elites watched while two chefs worked their kitchen magic and then passed around the food for everyone to enjoy. Inspired by the demonstration, Elites then had the opportunity to make their own purchases with a special Yelp discount.

Christopher's Collage

Next up, Christopher’s welcomed the Elites for a cocktail demonstration followed by drinks for all, along with plenty of passed appetizers that included flatbreads and burschetta. Chef Christopher himself even stopped by to chat with Elites while they ate!

  The Capital Grille

Just when Elites thought the night couldn’t get better, they showed up at The Capital Grille for a private meat education. The chef educated everyone on each cut of meat and then put platefuls of the delicious meat in front of everyone to eat! They washed it down with a homemade Pineapple Stoli Doli and wine and some lucky Elites walked away with gift cards to come back for another visit.

The evening ended with a shopping party at UNION, who houses 18 local businesses. With DJs spinning lively tunes and Queen Creek Olive Mill passing out sangria and cupcakes, Elites took to the stores to finish their evening with some retail therapy. A special thank you goes out to Mike B Photo who was there to capture it all on camera. Thank you to Biltmore Fashion Park, California Pizza Kitchen, Christopher’s, Julia Baker Confections, Paradise Bakery, The Capital Grille, Williams Sonoma and UNION for hosting the Yelp Elites and of course to the Elites who came out for the party! Don’t forget to take a look at the pictures and reviews and until next time…

Yelp Cleveland Elites Get To The Pointe!

Posted by Cara

Last Monday's event had Elites pirouette-ing with joy as Yelp Cleveland and local organization, Ballet In Cleveland, partnered up to throw a tutu-filled bash at Cowell & Hubbard, called Yelp Gets To The Pointe

Over 50 Elites and their guests noshed on scrumptious light bites from Cowell & Hubbard's adventurous menu, boasting mini gourmet meatballs, hummus and chicken salad bites that "were to die for," as Winnie W put it. "I definitely ate my fair share.  Each had a unique flair of flavor that I know I will be craving!" And thanks to A Cookie & A Cupcake and Churned, Yelpers noshed on mini cupcake bites and browned-butter ice cream with hunks of lavender brittle throughout.

The tutus really started coming out once the cocktails were served! Two signature cocktails were crafted for the event in conjunction with the "drinks" in Ballets With A Twist: Cocktail Hour, coming to Cleveland next month. Cowell & Hubbard served up a Mai Tai with candied almonds and a basil cucumber gimlet. Meanwhile, guests could take that buzz on over to the Yelpy Tutu Booth to take some elegant (read: hilarious) shots. See those pictures here, thanks to photog, Fernando Lopez.

The fun didn't end there—thanks to Ballet In Cleveland, Elites had the opportunity to actually try on real pointe shoes and receive discounted tickets to the Ballets With A Twist show coming up! PlayhouseSquare hosted a raffle for opening night tickets to see Sleeping Beauty and The Owens Group gave away swag and free passes to see upcoming films.

Check out crazy hilarious pictures HERE—and why not take a gander of the excellent event reviews, HERE? Or, leave your own feedback if you were there. No need to be shy!

Many thanks to Jessica of Ballet In Cleveland, the staff at Cowell & Hubbard, SynDee (and all her sweetness) of A Cookie & A Cupcake and also Churned, PlayhouseSquare, The Owen's Group, Fernando Lopez, Yelpterns Russa & Jared, Nicole W for coming out from Chicago, and last but not least, all you amazing CLE Yelp Elites!

See you at the next one (and on Yelp!)

Yelps sommerliches Künstlergespräch im étagère

Posted by Andreas R

Joey C: "With the enthusiastic mingling of Yelpers & the artists, this event proved to be a success. Many thanks to Maria & Marcus for their kind welcome into their lovely shop."

Vienna is a city of art - aside from the big houses with the well known stars there are countless young talents who didn´t have a proper platform to display there art - yet. étagère filled that hole by renting out space to artists to help them sell their work. A group of elite Yelpers was invited for a meet and greet with the artists. After a presentation of a couple of the designers every artist was available for a private chat with the Yelpers and the mingling could start. Maria and Marcus, the owners of étagère provided various refreshments throughout the night so that no throat had to stay dry. A big thank you goes to étagère for welcoming us in their treasure chamber and to all the artists who came out to meet the Yelpers!

Yelp Denver's Burger Battle!

Big Smoke Burger hosted Yelp Denver Elites for an exclusive afternoon of Epic Burger Battle proportions. Elites were encouraged to submit their best original burger recipe and duke it out at the event for the Best Burger title. Among the burger recipe submissions three finalists were chosen and revealed at the event for the elites to try and vote and their favorite. The mouth watering contestants vying for the top spot were Phil H's The Lamb Kicker (Wheat bun, Lamb Patty, Ketchup and Dijon mustard, Green Chile, Jalapenos, Lettuce, Jalapeno Harvati, Caramelized Onions), Alissa R's No Name Burger (White Bun, Chicken, BBQ Sauce and Dijon Mustard, Coleslaw, Bacon, Jalapeno havarti, Caramelized onions), and Andrea K's Baa-Baa Baaad Burger (Wrapped in lettuce, Lamb, Rosemary Garlic Mayo, Bacon, Caramelized Onions). BurgerBattleCollage

It was definitely a delicously tough decision, but the votes and our taste buds didn't lie. Phil H took home the winning title as well as $50 gift certificate to Big Smoke Burger. Other yummy bites like crispy onion rings, savory fries, and the oh-so Canadian dish - Poutine was served in rounds while guests sipped on Session Lager and Session Black Lager courtesy of Full Sail Brewing. Tyler S sums up the sensational Sunday in her glowing review when he says: "This was a well thought out and deliciously concocted event! Not only was the variety of food plentiful and appetizing, I was happy to get a chance to taste the wide-array of their menu. Also, the poutine was just as good as any I had in my Canada ventures and am happy to have some comfort food replicated here in Denver!"

Take a peek at the reviews of the event, as well as the fun pics captured at the Burger Battle! A big thank you to our sponsors without which we wouldn't be able to have this burger brawl! Welcome to San Jose, Smashburger!

Posted by Abby Schwarz

Though they're not new to many cities on the West Coast, Smashburger made their debut here in the South Bay last week. And before the crowds could line up and order, the Yelp Elite Squad was there to get the first bite before they opened! Yep, we're kind of a big deal... Read all about our Silver & Gold Preview Party last Thursday night!

Smashburger collage 1

Not long ago, people ate lots of burgers, however they were ordinary burgers. But there was something missing – the need for something  satisfying and real, something basic and good, something affordable and fresh – a place with a burger soul. A place that burger lovers could call their own and feel pride in recommending to their friends and family. So Smashburger asked, "Shouldn’t there be a better way?"

Smashburger believes that smashing is better. Their handcrafted burgers are smashed, seared and seasoned to order, using our fresh, never frozen 100% Certified Angus Beef®. Whether you choose the Classic Smashburger or decide to create-your-own, their artisan buns, freshly chopped produce, flavorful sauces and variety of cheeses are designed to deliver a great-tasting, juicy burger you can taste in every bite.

Smashburger collage 4

To launch their new South Bay store, about 30 Elites were invited to taste the goods and help spread the burger word. On the roster for this shindig were our "Silver" newbies (Elites who'd been on the Squad less than 6 months) and "Gold" badge Elites (5+ years on the Squad). Not only were we looking to munch on some quality meat, but this was the perfect opportunity to make new friends!

Smashburger went all out for the occasion! Jeremy, David, Dasha and the new San Jose crew put together a 7-course tasting menu, including the Classic Smashburger to the Avocado Club to the Spicy Veggie Black Bean Burger. Not to mention Smashfries, onion rings, fried veggies and milkshakes! And don't forget the Bay Area Burger, made with mushrooms and truffle oil, which seemed to be the winner of the evening.

Smashburger collage 2

"This was over-the-top gluttony," groaned Randy T. "It doesn't get any better than an event like this. Newbie Silver Elite members and experienced Gold Elite members in a small setting like this made for an amazing night of food, drink, and socializing at Smashburger." 5-stars from Gold Badge R.T. "SMASH THEM GOOD! cried Sherry C. "All of the 8 burgers we sampled were excellent with all the trimmings and fixings, but my absolute favorite is the Bay Burger. I can taste the layers of portabella mushrooms, baby arugula and oozing Swiss cheese." A perfect score from this newbie. "Kudo's to Smashburger for knowing how to arrive in a new town! While this was an overwhelming tasting in terms of quantity, it represented their menu well. I hope they have a successful grand-opening." cheered Linda L, another Gold badge Elite.

Yes, we left a wee bit stuffed. OK, a lot stuffed :) But we also got some bonding time with our fellow Elite Squad memebers and got to know Smashburger a lot better! "I really enjoyed the 'intro' to every dish and the explanations delivered. It really gave me an idea of who Smashburger was, how they differ from the competition, and why I should return. I feel 'connected' to Smashburger now," said Stephen R. And that's exactly why we host Elite Events... All of the stellar reviews are on Yelp and you can view photos taken by Waitman Gobble on Flickr!

Until our next event, SYOY!

Yelp Elites Party Beach-Style @ Mission Taco Joint

Posted by Aimee

Who says summer’s almost over?!  On Monday, Yelp St. Louis Elites had an extended weekend complete with a Monday-Funday beach theme party at Mission Taco Joint. There’s no better spot in town to celebrate the hottest time of the year, and this party certainly delivered.

After getting lei’d at the door, Yelpers were greeted by a signature cocktail whipped up by Mission’s top-of-the-line bartenders. This fruity concoction, Yelp Punch, had enough juices to color a SoCal sunset… and also had a dash of Mission’s watermelon-grapefruit agua fresca. But that’s not all… 4 Hands Brewery served their latest taste bud-experiment—fresh on tap!  Elite Newbie Sarah M speaks for us all when saying, “The 4 Hands beer with grapefruit was superb!” There’s nothing like some summer sips to get the party started.

This beach bash wouldn't be complete without the myriad of taco and nacho combinations Mission Taco prepared. Steven B “got a giggle every time someone returned from the buffet table and reported on a new combo of tacos that were out.” But MT wasn’t alone on filling up these beach bums! Steve’s Hot Dogs prepared some incredible loaded dawgs, complete with the works. Ben S had to face reality after trying one for himself: “I would be lying to myself if I didn't admit that the smoked hot dog from Steve's was better than the ones I grilled for lunch that same day.”

In between bites and sips, Yelpers had the opportunity to get their faces painted by Jessica Dana at Human Art. Elite Charleen S says Jessica “made the night special” and “made her feel like a kid again.” We even spotted someone with painted-on sunglasses! And what’s a beach party without a live band? There was never a dull moment thanks to Steve Ewing, front man of The Urge and owner of Steve’s Hot Dogs. Dustin O notes, Steve “sung an amazing set of music for everyone. “ Great tunes and the best hot dogs in town? What can’t the guy do?!

As always, this party was one for the books. It was also my very last Elite Event as the Yelp St. Louis Community Manager, so it was special to be able to thank everyone and spend some time with the fantastic Yelp St. Louis Elite Squad. As always, huge thanks goes to everyone who came out to celebrate! Special thanks also goes to Brea Photography for capturing the whole evening on camera. For the full set of photos, check out Yelp’s Flickr page. To read the glowing event reviews (or to write one of your own!), head over to the event page.

Can’t wait until St. Louis’ next bash. Until then…. See you on Yelp!

Elitarne Cupcake'i @ Lola's Cupcakes

Posted by Karolina
Słodkie, kolorowe babeczki to idealny posiłek dla Elity. Dlatego elitarne spotkanie warszawskiego Yelpa w Lola's Cupcakes było naprawdę udane. I naprawdę słodkie. PicMonkey Collage
Głównym punktem programu była oczywiście degustacja przesłodkich cupcake'ów: intensywnie czekoladowych, delikatnie kokosowych, waniliowych biszkoptów z owocami... Faworytem Yelperów zostało jogurtowe ciastko z malinamowym nadzieniem i przepysznym twarożkiem, dodatkowo zanurzone w białej czekoladzie. Pycha!

Współwłaściciel Loli, pan Krzysztof, opowiedział nam o historii firmy i sposobach produkcji babeczek; rozwiał też nasze wątpliwości na temat subtelnej różnicy między cupcake'iem a muffinem.

Imprezę umilało stanowisko do samodzielnego przygotowywania drinków, a raczej jednego specjalnego drinka.
Hugo podbił moje serce i podniebienie."

Chcecie więcej?

Cupcakes are sweet, colourful and delicious, therefore perfect for Elites! We had a really sweet time during Yelp Warsaw Elite Event at Lola's Cupcakes. 2013-20-cupcakes-12
We got to try all those amazing cupcakes: rich chocolate, delicate coconut, vanilla and - everyone's favorite - amazing yoghurt cake with raspberries and cream cheese frosting, covered in white chocolate. The co-owner of Lola, Mr. Krzystof, told us all about cupcakes and baking. In the meantime, we enjoyed a make-your-own-drink stand, where one could use prosecco, elderberry syrup, mint and limes to make delicious Hugo's. 1150984_697749116905357_2049102354_n

Yelp's Mimosa Madness @ Culinary Dropout

Posted by Drew

No uniforms, no formalities. This gastropub breaks all the rules in the most delicious way. From inspired fresh cocktails and the stylish bartenders who carefully craft them, Culinary Dropout is all about stirring things up. That is when they’re not serving up addictive house made pretzels with provolone fondue along with live music on weekends. If you’re looking for a soul kitchen, this is the place to go.

To ring in their new bottomless mimosa brunch, Vegas Elite's were welcomed in for a tasting along with a cooking demo from Head Chef, Eric Suniga. The tasting menu consisted of the breakfast burrito (filled with eggs, bacon, poblanos, pepper jack, fries and served with a homemade salsa), Cap'n Crunch French Toast (texas toast, cereal milk custard, toasted Cap'n, fresh strawberries) and the egg white frittata (chicken, mushrooms, asparagus, fontina cheese, topped with kale) and each course was greeted with "oohs" and "aahs" from the guests.

Culinary food.jpg

The drink menu was simple... mimosas... lot's of 'em, and not the kind that make you speed home for some Tums. Each was made from freshly squeezed OJ and chilled sparkling wine. Culinary Dropout was nice enough to disperse samples of their other boozy beverages as well, including the Bacon Bloody Mary and Room Service (gin, strawberry simple, lemon and sparkling wine).

Culinary Drinks.jpg

Kayla M sums up the event perfectly: "It was great company, great music, great food, and great conversation." She adds, "Yelp had the entire patio to ourselves for much of the event. With a view of Rehab Pool and the music pumping it was definitely a fun party atmosphere worthy of a Yelp event. The staff was amazing! So attentive, keeping our glasses full and even bring out special drink requests. I tried the Bacon Bloody Mary and it's the bomb! I will be back again if only for this drink!"

"The General Manager Jay came around and met us, giving us each his card with a drink coupon on the back to use on a future visit. The head chef, Eric, spent time talking us through each course and even taught us how to make the Cap'n Crunch French Toast. The Sommelier came out to say hello and to tell us about their custom drinks. It was great meeting the staff and learning the thought behind the food and drink pairings."

A big thank you goes out to everyone in the front and back of the house at Culinary Dropout for showing the Yelp Elite's a fantastic time! Need more mimosa madness? Check out more 5-star reviews and additional event photos courtesy of Anthony M

Yelp's Gatsby Bash at Hotel Congress

Posted by Bella

Last week, Copper Hall at Hotel Congress transformed into a roaring Gatsby scene just for Tucson Yelp Elites and their guests. Yelper's donned their most glamourous 1920s attire– fellas in suits and hats, dames in gowns, feathers and pearls. From the petite bites to the bevy of classic cocktails, entertainment and styling, this party had no shortage of glitz, glamour and decadence.  Interior"F. Scott Fitzgerald - we did you PROUD!" exclaims Elite Yelper Kathy N. "Walking in to the Copper Room was like being transported back to an elegant speakeasy. Arizona Party Rental completely transformed the room." Copper Hall's crafty mixologist and manager, Billy, shook things up with classic cocktails– The East End Sazerac, The Don Ricardo Bi-Plane, The Dillinger Side Car and Wet Martini. "He pumped out those martinis like there was no tomorrow, was super friendly and funny while doing it!" yelps Christina R

And the food? "Magnificent," "Amazing," "Phenomenal," as described by Yelpers. Decadent hors d'ouvres were bountiful from Shrimp Cocktail, to mini Beef Wellington, Deviled Eggs, Stuffed Mushrooms, Crostini, tiny Tarts with figs, pecans, brie and more! Plus a line-up of sweets that left us wanting more...Dawn K reports "the desserts were a highlight with eclairs and cream puffs; which were light, fresh and not overly heavy or sweet." Food

Yelpers hit up the Blackjack table, courtesy of Ace Casino Equipement. Ladies were treated to complimentary hair styles, courtesy of Alicia and Silviya of Gallery Knext Salon and DJ Joshua mixed up the tunes all night long. Molly H sums up the night perfectly: "Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous. Between music, cards, and hooch, the joint was jumping all night. Yelpers were dressed to the nines. No detail was too small to be overlooked." And the staff? They were "ultimate professionals!"EntertainmentAn enormous thank you to the team at Hotel Congress & Cup Cafe for showing us a roaring good time, Billy for tending bar like a rockstar, DJ Josh, Ace Casino Equipment and Arizona Party Rental for transforming Copper Hall into a magical, sparkly getaway that Gatsby himself would be proud of.

Did ya miss out on all the action, old sport?

Yelp's Rays The Roof!

Posted by BrettNehls

At the latest Tampa Bay Elite Event, Yelpers snacked on stadium fare, sipped specialty drinks, and root, root, rooted for the home team during Yelp's Rays The Roof! Hosted by the generous staff at Tropicana Field, over 75 local Yelpers were invited to enjoy the ball game from the multi-level Captain Morgan Party Deck in center field. The Tampa Bay Rays pulled out an exciting final-inning win against the Seattle Mariners, Yelpers won home team raffle prizes, and we even had the opportunity to sing "Take Me Out To The Ball Game" on the big screen for the whole stadium to see. It was one, two, three rounds of fun at this old ball game!

Katrina P tells us that "the barbeque pork was delicious," while Rachel H raves about an "incredible array of toppings! A hot dog bun stuffed with sauerkraut, chilies, pickles, slaw, sauces, and onions was incredibly delicious. Bags full of popcorn, pretzels, and chips (those chips were amazing) made the night one of American-pastime-perfection." Christina C says the Blue Storm adult beverage was just as good: "The blue drinks are what made my night. My friend commented after drinking it that they could be very dangerous - it tasted way too delicious!"Raysstuff

Crystal H exclaims, "Can we talk about the Jumbotron? It was so neat that Yelpers were able to sing 'Take Me Out To The Ball Game' on the Jumbotron!" Cathy J also enjoyed the performance, telling us, "The whole crowd sang along in a jovial manner. It brought a tear to my eye." Along with Yelp's closeup, Jerry G says we've got luck, too. "Was it a coincidence that the Rays would break their losing streak on this night? I think not! It's called Yelp mojo."Rayspeople

Gerardo Luna Photography captured the greatest moments both on and off the field during this Elite Event, where the venue impressed Melissa R, who notes, "The Captain Morgan deck is a great place in the outfield to watch the game - there's an outdoor deck, and there's table service to boot." Meanwhile, Josh H recalls, "I got to meet some new people and build on some new relationships as well - oh, and we got a cool free t-shirt!" Rich D sums it up best: "As always, the best thing about Yelp events is seeing old friends and meeting new ones. Some folks see Yelp as reviews and restaurants. I see Yelp as friends and relationships – and those are all five stars!"

We agree - this event was one for the record books! Check out all the fun photos over on Flickr, or visit Yelp to learn more about becoming Elite.
