In the words of Ethan H, "never has a Yelp event been more worth the schlep!" Saturday night, 225+ Yelpers made the stroll 50 miles south to Columbus, Indiana for Yelp's Great Getaway at The Inn at Irwin Gardens. Twenty local businesses came together to celebrate the southern charm of Columbus with a three hour lawn party. Andrew D raves over the backdrop, "The Irwin Gardens were indescribably gorgeous. You just have to see it. It reminded me of a stately English manor. All fancy like." With the help of Ashley Morgan Weddings, Connie Duglin Specialty Linens and Claudia's Florabunda the party was anything but hard on the eyes.
Serenaded by Quick Said the Bird, Yelpers were able to get their hands on eats like Stephanie D's favorite, "candied bacon sticks from Lemley's Catering. OMG!!!!!! Candied bacon....it was so scrumptious and just melted in your mouth. The perfect blend of sweet and salty with a slight spicy kick on the back of your tongue." And that's just the beginning! 240Sweet Artisan Treats, Icing on the Cake, Zaharako's Ice Cream Parlor, A Thyme for All Seasonings, Maggie Mae's Gourmet, Flatrock Flatbread Company, Bubba Blue's BBQ & Catering and Best Boy & Co. were all hand with eats ranging from vinagrette fudge sauce and a smore bar to vanilla cardamon cupcakes with cream cheese icing (two, please!).
Upon entering the lush gardens, attendees were greeted with drinks from southern favorites, Bloomington Brewing Company and Mallow Run Winery. Sweet Tea, anyone? Don't mind if we do Honest Tea! In the twinkling-lit tent, Hawcreek Brewing Company, Powerhouse Brewing and Chateau de Pique Winery continued to keep the palettes wet. A sassy bourbon/syrup cocktail by Big House Bourbon and Burton's Maple Syrup Farm was best described by Scot C, "Burton's was throwing down an impressive run of 'Bluegrass Morning' cocktails: blueberries, oakened maple syrup, a slice of lemon and a shot of that Big House Bourbon, all muddled into ice for a refreshing, crisp kick that had me betting I'd be back for more." With straw hats on heads and a drink (or two) in hand, Yelpers were able to watch internationally-adored illustrator, Andy Miller, work his illustrious magic.
According to Heather H: “This might be the most beautiful venue I've ever been to a Yelp even at..” An enthusiastic THANK YOU to all of our sponsors and participants, especially The Inn at Irwin Gardens for opening the doors to Yelp for a fabulous party.
