North County Gets Down With Yelp's Garden Glamboree

Posted by Trish

The San Diego Botanic Gardens in Encinitas threw open its doors to welcome 700 Yelpers for Yelp's Garden Glamboree. Over 36 booths and interactive experiences were placed throughout the Hamilton Children's Garden! Delighted attendees strolled through the grounds while sipping libations and savored selections from highly rated local businesses. Guests experienced magical and fashion forward entertainment, music, interactive vendors, a "relaxation row" and more while supporting and exploring this urban garden sanctuary and botanic preserve. PicMonkey Collage 1

Yelp North County's party partner, Raphael's Party Rentals, brought local & family owned know how and sprinkled fairy dust to make this event over the top: They built lighting, lounges, and the main-stage to set the mood! SOS Entertainment and Rezident Management brought our DJ crew and of course, made the sound and special effects pop, while Uber dropped off our guests in style with their recently launched NCSD fleet. The lines moved quickly as Yelp's new Party Pass was scanned in rapid succession and the food and beverage sponsors cooked and poured perfect party pairings throughout the night! PicMonkey Collage

Once in the door Yelpers got in the groove with music provided by DJ Brandon Noel and DJ Jeremy Hersch. Guests grabbed a custom pint glass from Promoventures and started to feast! Samples from Red Oven Pizza, The Flavor Chef, The Inslider, Flat Rock Eats & Drinks, Big Bite Bacon Fest, Slater's 50/50, Sammy's Woodfired Pizza & Grill, Zen-sational Cheesecake, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Luna Bar, and Dolce Italia wowed the palate! Check out the 5-star reviews raving for our generous partners! PicMonkey Collage

Glamboree attendees got their drink on with bar service from RG Bar-who brought their A-game with a fabulous set up and pro bartenders! Beverages provided by Pinnacle Vodka, Hornito's Lime Shot, Fireball Whisky and Arcana Brewing (Formerly Fezzwig's Brewing) started off this smooth evening, while Tenth & Blake showed off Blue Moon, Leinenkugel, Batch 19, Crispin, Fox Barrel, & Third Shift Brewing. The Stack Wines experience wowed the crowd with their beach ready brand and Peroni Italy was at the top of the heap with a chic all white lounge set up. We all felt a little smarter after taking sip from the Nawgen booth and Lorimar Winery busted out a bubble Lounge featuring our favorite glam pink champagne! PicMonkey Collage

Entertainment graced the main-stage with a mind-blowing show from Magician and Mentalist Kevin Viner. Numbers, mind reading and bowling balls abounded! Then it was all about local retailers with a stellar runway show produced by Fashion Week San Diego. 12 looks and 12 gracious models strutted their stuff wearing looks from TRE Boutique, The Del Mar Dress Company, Le Femme Chic, and Detour Boutique. Heath, beauty, and wellness were embodied with interactive booths featuring services from Dr. Canter of Canter Chiropractic, Leu Leu Beauty Bar, Kelly Cardenas Salon, and 20 Lounge. These local businesses had everyone feeling pampered, pretty, relaxed and de-stressed! PicMonkey Collage

What does a Glam Garden Party look like? Just take a look into Psychic Celine's crystal ball, or maybe a souvenir from Caricatures by Dave will tell the tale! Head to the NCSD Yelp FB page to check out the shots from The Fotobox garden glam scene featuring Lucky Street Productions & Madame Palooza.  Photographers Jon Bagalso and Mike Brown were on-site, snapping up every moment: Check out our Flickr page for pics, the time laps video, and the local coverage from NBC's The Scene! The San Diego Botanic Garden is a non-profit organization. They promote the over 36-acre property through their members, amazing staff, volunteers and community programs. Yelp NCSD was pleased to partner with them on this glam garden soiree and 100% of the proceeds from at the door donations were collected by and went straight to the garden. Thanks to all our amazing sponsors and the Yelp Community!

Madison Elites Prove Blind Dates Are Dynamite @ Brasserie V

Let's get something straight: Yelp is not a dating site. Weeeeeeeeell... not in the sense that you think, but we do have a knack for bringing people together and this May in Madison was no exception! When it came to food, drink, the guest list, where people would be sitting, Elites didn't have any deets when they showed up for Yelp's Blind Date at Brasserie V!

If you've ever been on a blind date you know a little liquid courage helps make the evening more bearable, which is why owners Matt and Andrea Van Nest made sure everyone had a glass in hand upon arrival; St. Bernardus Tokyo Wheat Ale for the beer drinkers and Aimé Roquesante Rosé for those wanting wine. From there we took seats for a four course meal with pairings, a "home run" of an evening according to Steve L.

"It was great to hear from owners Matt and Andrea. Their passion for what they do is very evident. Leah is really knowledgeable about wine, and was great to talk to over generous pours. HUGE thanks go out to BV owners Andrea and Matt, Chef Rob and his team and Leah of Frank Liquor. To say they nailed it is an understatement. Thanks also to the super-stars of the evening, John and Dorothy of Fountain Prairie Farm, "who were on hand to educate us about how they raise their cattle while honoring both the animal and the land." Steve L insists it's "impressive to meet people that care so much about what they do, I have a huge amount of respect for them and their efforts." Yelp Starts from Scratch @ Luigi's

Posted by Drew

While Long Islanders endured a mostly wet Memorial Day weekend, there was a light at the end of the tunnel at Yelp Starts from Scratch at Luigi's. Luigi’s Restaurant & Bar in New Hyde Park is a timeless Italian eatery serving high-quality Italian-American classics, rustic Italian cuisine and contemporary dishes. Why was the event called Starts from Scratch? Luigi's makes nearly everything on the menu in-house. From mozz to pastas, this is a freezer free zone!

Guests were greeted immediately by the staff at Luigi's and were offered classic Italian cocktails; the negroni, white peach bellini, drunken cherry bellini, Italian red and white wine. The staff were hustling from that moment onwards according to Tessie B: "My glass didn't go dry, I was refilled with white wine all night! The waitresses were on point and perfect!"

Food 1.jpg

While the drinks were delightful, Luigi's also gracefully opened their kitchen doors and allowed Elites a true taste of Italy! Katy H: "As for the food... delicious. We had tiny tastings of all different courses offered at Luigi's. We had crab cakes, brick oven pizza, homemade meatballs, chicken parm sliders and more. The meatballs were juicy and truly reminded me of my own grandmother's recipe. After some time, we were pointed to the back of the room to have a full on meal extraveganza of fresh hand-made pasta. That ravioli was out of this world. And even the pesto was phenomenal. It was like I stepped right into a small place in Italy. FUN FACT: the brick oven stove in Luigi's was brought over from Italy!!! Luigi's knows how to step up their game."

Yelp’s Really Really Ridiculously Good Looking Event at Bea’s of Bloomsbury

Posted by Alex Shebar

Yes, the rumours you heard were true. The sexiest people in London made their way to a warehouse for the hottest event of the season. It was Yelp’s Really Really Ridiculously Good Looking Event at Bea’s of Bloomsbury. And it was beautiful.

BeaMovieWalking into the giant industrial cooking space, all yelpers were handed a cold Harviestoun brew and instructed to write their favourite movie on their name tag. We learned much about the taste of London Yelpers.

All guests were then treated to an array of delicious eats. Yes, Bea’s legendary sweets made an appearance, but the star of the show was.. well, we’ll let Nava N tell you: “Bea's treated us to cupcakes, sure,  but also to blondies and brownies and fried brownies and meringues and lemon marshmallows and mac and cheese and chili cheese dogs and popcorn and on and on and on. Shoot. The mac was divine. As was the chocolate cupcake with Bailey's frosting I had. As was the few bites of fried brownie. Hell, I ate way too much. And now I have evidence that Bea's does an amazing cupcake, so I will definitely pay them a visit to snag some more!”

BeaFoodMaking their way to comfortable seats, the night’s main attraction began: 2001’s classic comedy Zoolander. We laughed, we cried, we ate some more. “When it came time for the movie, there was more beer, freshly popped popcorn, and fairly comfortable seats just waiting for us. You couldn't really ask for more,” Andrew M told us.

Even Yelper Becky H found time to shoot some amazing pics throughout the evening:

BeaPicsLauren V said it best: “I ate way too much and laughed way too hard. That's a good time.”

It was a night that would make any three time male model of the year proud. But don’t just take our word for it. But don’t just take our word for it. You can read all the reviews right here as well as check out all the pics by Yelp Photographer Natalya Spicker here on the Official Yelp Flickr Page.

Yelpers, so hot right now. Yelpers.

Champagneprovning på Häktet med Hatt et Söner

Posted by Pohman

On May 29th, the Yelp Stockholm Elite Squad met up for a champagne tasting event at Häktets vinbar on Södermalm. Hatt et Söner served three types of their Swedish champagne; brut, extra brut and rosé and Häktet supplied oysters and charcuteries and told interesting stories about ghosts and who once sat at Häktet way back when it was still a prison.

Hatt et Söner guided us through the tasting, explained how they had managed to get that unique opportunity to take over the vineyard in the Champagne district in France and taught the guests sabering.

Yelp Queens: Spring Spectacle To The MOMI

Posted by Jando

Last night was no ordinary Wednesday, as hump day went next level with Yelp's Spring Spectacle at the Museum of Moving Image (MOMI). Yelpers in record numbers came out to support the museum's cause in record numbers while celebrating the arts in Queens but also do so in one of the NYC's most dynamic venues.

Yelp's Lucky Pizza Party!

Posted by Ben B.

Sydney Yelpers were welcomed to Helm Bar’s top deck with booming fireworks and a light show projected onto the roof of the National Maritime Musuem. Fine, so that may or may not have been part of Vivid Live, but it certainly kicked this Elite Event off in style!

After arriving Yelpers were sent to the bar for specialty cocktails dished up in jam jars: Bee Stings packed with honey bourbon, agave nectar, mint and freshly juiced apple, and a classic Tom Collins with Tanqueray, simple syrup, soda and fresh lemon juice.

Collage 2

And then the pizzas came out. And came out again. And kept on coming, wave after wave of gourmet deliciousness like Peking Duck with shallots and cucumber ribbon salad, Spicy Chorizo with goats cheese and olive tapenade, and Prawn & Scallop with chilli oil and buffalo mozzarella.

Collage 3

Hidden under slices of ‘za were wooden letters spelling out H.E.L.M. B.A.R. Lucky Yelpers who found letters were showered with prizes like bottles of Piper-Heidsieck, Smirnoff green apple vodka, a colossal magnum of Blue Pyrenees Method Traditional Brut Sparkling, and a bunch of $20 & $50 Helm vouchers.

Collage 4

Under the spotlight in the corner Bondi-by-way-of-WA artist Anya Brock worked her colourful magic in a stellar live art display. In two hours she completed four amazing canvases including the crowd favourite, an awesome rainbow zebra.

Collage 5

There was still one more surprise – Yelpers that downloaded and interacted with the Helm Bar app earned instant reward points that could be redeemed on-the-spot for beers, wines, cocktails and more. Lastly, thanks as always to Sam Macdonald Photography for the happy snaps.

Until next time, SYOY (See You On Yelp!)

Yelp Honolulu Takes A Great Steak-ation

Posted by Emi H

It was a g'day indeed as 40 lucky Elites ventured out to far east side of the island of Oahu to get a advance tasting of the new limited time only belly poppin' Steak Flights from Outback Steakhouse! After coming up with their own zesty outback names, Yelpers were put to the Australian test as they tried to match up some of Aussie's A-list with their best Hollywood hits. The Honolulu Elite squad really knew their Aussies and the game wrapped up as the as our steak feast flowed out from the kitchens!

IMG_6316  IMG_6319 IMG_6328  IMG_6332

Key-lime Coconut 'Rita's and Blue Moon's on tap kept the group feeling aces! The generousity of the Australian outback was in full force as Yelpers enjoyed multiple pours of their drink of choice. First up in the line-up was a Crab & Avocado stack appetizer wih chips. This shared crowd pleaser overcame any last traces of shyness as Elites got their eat on or "bogged in" as they say down under.

IMG_6313  IMG_6336 IMG_6324  IMG_6338

Holy flying cow Steve Irwin! The steak flights flew into the mouths of hungry Elites faster than a wombat on wheels. The inner cave-dweller in us all came roaring out to the surface in the face of so much meat! The steak flights came with four amazing sauces: Creamy Diablo Sauce, Bernaise Sauce, Brandy Peppercorn Sauce, and a Creamy Mushroom Sauce. Yeeps dipped and dunked their steak flights with bloody gusto!

IMG_6344  IMG_6347  IMG_6350  IMG_6346

The Australians call sweets "lollies" which was completely appropriate for this dessert! Each Elite faced down their own trio of Cheesecake Melba, Chocolate Peanut Butter, and Carrot Cake cake pops! These delicious delights were irresistable and the crowd stuffed themselves silly on these sweet lollies.

Ready to jump on a flight to the Land of Oz? Put your eyeballs on the 5-star reviews and pose for the super awesome party pics! Til we can gather round the old barbie again...

San Antonio Elite Late Night Throwdown: PJ's & Pizza at Liberty Bar

Posted by Gloria

It's not often that Yelpers get to grace one of San Antonio's highly-esteemed eating institutions in their sleepwear, but Liberty Bar made an exception for Yelp Elites last Friday night at our PJ's & Pizza Late Night Throwdown (seriously, we were throwin' down on some games).

Liberty Bar Collage 1
Even though we were dressed like "schlubs" as Katy B affectionately refers to it, Liberty Bar rolled out the red carpet treatment in the form of free-flowing booze and ample samples of their late-night menu. All five draft beers (Stella, Lobo Negro, Guinness, Bass, Miller, and Shiner), any house mixed cocktail, plus red and white wine options were entirely complimentary for Elites and their guests throughout the night. Serendipity Wines generously provided the red and white for the night, poured by our PJ-clad compadre and local wine expert, Laz.  On the buffet were two sourdough artisan pizza varieties with toppings such as gruyere, muenster, fresh mozarella, proscuitto, and artichokes, a family-style neverending mixed legumes salad, mini gourmet chocolate cupcakes making the whole room chocolate-scented, and homemade popcorn – what's a pajama party without that?! In the words of Abbey S, "yummy pizzas just kept coming all night. As soon as a plate of food was put down, the group would swarm, that's how good the pizza was!"

Liberty Bar collage 2
Naturally, Elites couldn't get enough competition as nail biting games popped up throughout the room. There was Jenga happening at one table, while others showed off their card skills at another, and then Elites got crafty and downloaded their own "Head's Up" game app for a fun twist on old-school charades. As if the raucous and rowdy board game antics weren't enough, Liberty Bar upped the ante by raffling off various prizes throughout the night. A handful of Elites went home with $10 gift cards and bottles of wine, but the real prize went to Walter S and Melissa L, winners of first and second place in the best-dressed contest (respectively). First place took home a generous $50 gift card and 2nd received a $25 card. Dressing down really pays off!

Liberty Bar Collage 3
Props to the Liberty Bar staff who got in the spirit with us and wore their pajamas too. They certainly know how to have a good time, and no one's glass was left empty for long, if at all. If they'll have us back after some pretty intense screaming rounds of Catch Phrase, I know it will be a regular destination for many Elites in the future. Our official Yelp San Antonio photographer, Parish Photography, captured the riveting moments, including some sock modeling – see the entire album here. The 5-star reviews are rolling in, have you shared yours yet?

Until next time, stay comfortable Elites!

Your Mom Loves Yelp at Cliff Bell's

Posted by Annette

On May 19th, Detroit Elites celebrated their mommas for a Mother’s Day themed event called “Your Mom Loves Yelp” at the legendary Cliff Bell’s in Detroit.

Elites brought an important mom in their lives as their +1 and those ladies were treated to a corsage from Pot & Box as they walked in the door. From there, guests were able to partake in either a Freixenet mimosa or they could mix up their favorite flavors at the Tito’s Handmade Vodka Bloody Mary bar.

Cliff Bell’s provided brunchy eats like fruit topped waffles, fresh salads, and quiche along with the piano stylings of Jarrod Champion up on the stage.

After eats and drinks were consumed the mother + elite pairs were invited to get a lovely photo taken together by our photographer extraordinaire Doug Coombe. On their way out they were treated to fun takeaways from our friends at Freixenet.

Many thanks to Danielle and the rest of the staff at Cliff Bell’s for taking care of us so expertly and feeding us delicious eats that afternoon, Tito’s Handmade Vodka for the Bloody Mary bar set up, Freixenet for the bottles of bubbly, Doug Coombe for the lovely photos (which you can find here), and Jarrod Champion for the lovely tunes.

Need more? Relive the memories by reading the reviews (or write your own!) here.

PDXYelp Elite Rocked The Riverside @ Quartet!

Posted by Don Bourassa

Just because Memorial Day weekend ended on Monday doesn't mean the PDXYelp Elite stop partying on Tuesday. Yup, 50 of PDXYelp's most elite schmoozed in style at Yelp's Riverside Romp @ Quartet on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, with a gorgeous setting of a beautiful restaurant, excellent service and incredible river views.

Quartet may seem like stuffy fine dining on the outside, however it's anything but. Inside this hip, swanky bar Yelpers relaxed in casual style as great team of ladies served up a delicious mix of Argyle 2009 Brut, New Deal's Gin No. 1, Widmer Brothers Brewing beer and A to Z Wines! With tall glasses of bubbly, beer, or gin martinis in hand, the Yelp Elite cozied up to one of Porltand's most elite venues and gazed out on views of the dragon boats and other riverside activity. Quartet threw down some tasty snacks including house-made potato chips, sushi rolls, fried brussel sprouts, coconut shrimp, quesadillas, truffle fries and more on the long, slick communal table that splits this swank-tacular bar down the middle. It was a perfect setting to mix, mingle and meet fellow elites.

As Mary B notes, "Swanky! That was my first thought walking in to Quartet.  Swanky and fancy!  And what a view!  I sipped on dirty martinis (thanks, New Deal!), chatted with other yelpers and watched the sunset while the dragon boats rowed by on the Willamette river.  A fantastic time was had by all." I couldn't have said it better myself. Thanks to the amazing crew at Quartet; Bette Sinclair from B. Sinclair PR; Tom and the folks at New Deal; Argyle; Widmer Brothers Brewing; Ana M; and of course the PDXYelp Elite, without whom this would not be possible. You rule!

Haven't written your review of the event yet? What are you waiting for? Check the photos too. And don't forget we're on Twitter and FB too!

Until next time, SYOY!

Yelp's Dallas Derby

Posted by Heli M.

Big hats. Dapper Gents. And enough fun and good times to make even Churchill Downs green with envy!

Dallas' Village Country Club was the scene of a soiree that had more than 1,000 enthusiastic Yelpers milling about for Yelp Dallas' biggest and most-talked about event of the year: Yelp's Dallas Derby. Derbycollage2

"Let me just start off by saying, if you missed this event, you aren't the Dallas Socialite that you claim to be!" teases Danielle B.

Everyone came dressed to impress: "Women's colorful, broad-rimmed hats adorned the patio like wild flowers in a field. The men strutted around in freshly polished shoes and bowties like show birds looking for some tail feathers," describes Jodi G. Plus, "the entertainment was just grand! Indoors, you had access to Photo Booth Dallas, Ace's Wild Casino games, a bar, an RX chair masseuse, and Salon Boutique Academy make-up and hair artists - all while viewing an actual film of a Lone Star Park horse race projected on the wall and listening to current music played by Spin DJ Entertainment," she brags.

Outdoors was just as packed with party highlights thanks to live jazz from Sandaga 813, hand-rolled cigars from House of Cigars, croquet and cornhole, a shoe shine stand (The Gent's Place), a rewarding raffle, a hat competition, and three bars by the pool. Oh yeah - and a real life horse for posing party-goers to strike a pose with! "Meeting Pistol from Widowmaker Trail Rides was just the dose I needed to rekindle my Texan pride," raves John C.

"I can't complain about a single thing...nope, not a single thing," Robyn M marvels. "The food selection was wonderful and there were so many places that I have been stalking on Yelp that had tables set up with samples of yummy goodness!"

"Trailercakes were like little pieces of heaven in my mouth: that salty caramel and the mint chocolate!!?  Then layer on some Whiskey Cake... I wouldn't mind gaining 5 pounds to munch on those all day," admits Emily L. "I gotta say Samosa Hut lit my tongue on fire which I cooled with some great Revolver Beer. Nonna's catering was delicious as well."

Janice R "ate about three lbs of some of the best guacamole" she's "had in a long time from Sunset Lounge." Her other "favorite of the day were tacos from Velvet Taco!" Hashem D  went for Pop Diner's great "hot dogs and especially loved the chilli."

Vets like Kind Snacks satisfied cravings, while newcomers like Seattle's Best put their best Texas foot forward introducing their cool cafe cuisine to Elite VIPs with a special tumbler and kickass coupons.

The food frenzy fueled even more pleasure sensors with other unique flavors and spices. "The Samosa Hut in Irving, two types of very tasty meatballs from Zeno's Famous Meatball Kitchen and the PB&J and Kermint cupcakes from Trailercakes laid a safe foundation for the free-flowing drinks," explains Scott H, and boy - were there drinks to be had!

"Titos Vodka: What can I say, and I had a Graham's Arnold Palmer that was just the right kind of refreshing!" says Jo F. Treaty Oak Distilling, Woodchuck Cider, and Revolver Brewing boasted brews and cocktails of note as well.

All in all, there were "not enough stars!" Kathleen M insists. "I'd give it 10 more! What a great event!"

Missed out on the fun? No worries: D.Martin Entertainment captured it all on film (click here to see it) and ElPhotoImage caught the shots on camera: check out the photo gallery here!

It was a fun one, guys. Until next time.

Yelp Denver's Yelper Party: Cirque Du Yelp!

On May 16th at the McNichols Civic Center Building in Downtown Denver, people from all around came one, came all to the greatest event on earth: Cirque Du Yelp. In the enthusiastic words of Elite Yelper, Julio T: "Ladies, gentlemen and children of all ages (well, those over 21 if you want to get past the burly security guards), Denver Yelp has surpassed all previous events for a Cirque du Yelp so fun and astounding it has to be seen to be believed!" Not only were guests greeted by some pushy goats but the event's Non-Profit parther, Denver Botanic Gardens, as well, who managed to raise $2300 through suggessted donations! So, buckle down and prepare to feast eyes, ears, and drooling mouths as we recount the biggest party of the year, Cirque Du Yelp.

As guests piled into the Civic Center like kooky clowns unloading from a tiny car, their eyes were first fixed on the magnificence of the McNichols Civic Center Building. The grand, Neo-Classical building situated in Denver's epicenter housing local art exhibitions served as the perfect backdrop for the event as its large expansive space made it easy, even for an event of 900+ guests seem spacious. For Erin H "the venue was perfect. I know there had to be a lot of Yelpers there, but it never felt crowded." After marveling at the overarching building, Yelpers had to swoon at the animals provided by Pony Express Pony Rides. Not your average petting zoo, a party of this magnitude called for animals of all shapes and sizes. A Llama, alpaca, baby goat, pony, donkey, sheep, lamb, and yes – even a camel made an appearance. Kate G "tried hard to stay away from the petting zoo because I had my eye on a baby goat and I didn't trust myself not to grab it and run, especially towards the end of the night when my voice got louder and my interest in snuggling with animals got more intense (as usual)."

Another fabulous feature that was worthy of some foder were food trucks, MANNA from Heaven, Pink Tank, and Biker Jim's bike cart. Ryan D sampled and sums up the goodness: "Biker Jims brought wild boar sausage which was tasty with green chilli on top, yum dumplings from Manna from Heaven, and fried chicken with hot sauce and bacon from Pink Tank was quite tasty."

CirqueCollage2On the first floor of the house of fun, Lix Stix Artisan Pops was dolling out all sorts of fun flavors of ice pops. For Ryan D "the night started and ended with Lix Stix, with a good assortment of icy pops. The cheesecake was my favorite." And Jennifer V might have to check into rehab as she confesses her new addiction: "Lix Stix .. your chocolate salted pops are addiction level tasty." The second floor was mapped out for even greater madness. Chipper Booth was on board snapping some wacky shots that can be seen here. Other fun entertainment included sick beats courtesy of local DJ, Nofrendo and intricate face painting designs so patiently applied by Snappy Face Painting. To simulate the most magical of circus tents, LMD Productions elegantly drapped the massive, industrial room with red and yellow fabric embellished with whimsical paper lanterns under which the guests danced all night long.

Now, for the food and drinks...Patxi's Pizza, Astonishing Cakes, Deep Eddy Vodka, Fort Collins Brewery, Twisted Pine Brewery, TUACA Cinnaster, and Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey got the guests going! From the "sweet and creamy Rocky Mountain cake from Astonishing cakes" to the "simply delicious Patxi's pizza" to which Kristol T "had to go back for seconds" – it was time to guzzle down some libations. Good thing local breweries, Twisted Pine, sampled some spicy chili-infused beer and Fort Collins Brewery served up some tasty suds along with a "nice Barley Wine." On the liquor side of things, Alissa R gives "mad props to Deep Eddy Vodka with those sweet tea drinks; dangerously delicious," while Jennifer V "did have some of the Cinnamon Vanilla Tuaca, which was sweet and burny in all the right ways." And Whitney W happily honed in on the Jack Daniels Honey, which "was great to try it with lemonade."

The third floor was a perfect big top(ing) to this Three-Ring circus. "The mesmerizing, gravity-defying acrobats," Illuminar Aerial, was twirling and twisting through the air as party-goers observed in disbelief, while DJ Savior Breath saved us all from a bland-time and instead created music suitable for a "phantasmagoric" time, all while dressed in a Catholic pope get-up. Local company, 34 Degrees kept our tastebuds tentalated with delectable treats paired with their airy cracker crips and KIND Snack Bars assisted in our party endurance with tasty, yet healthy treats. As local candy shop, Sugarlicious kept our sweet tooth happy, Tanteo Tequila spiced things up with their jalepeno infused Tequila cocktails. For Jen W, the "Woodchuck Cider summer brew with blueberry goodness" was a highlight of the evening. And Local brewery, Oskar Blues Brewery kept the fun vibrations alive by "pouring some mighty fine Mama's Little Yella Pils and that was much appreciated"... by Dale Z. "My goodness, it's no wonder I was still a little woozy the next morning," foggy-minded, Kelly T states. CirqueCollage4

Yelp ROC Elites Spring Into Summer At Thread

Posted by Breanna

In Rochester, the summer heat is beginning to creep in. To refresh before vacations begin and yelpers start hanging poolside, the Elites spent a relaxing evening at Thread, a boutique in the South Wedge neighborhood.

The guests sampled sweet treats while sipping on bubbly and cucumber water. Marissa N likened the experience to “being an over-sized kid in an adult candy store.” They also had a chance to peek at Thread’s latest fashions and their selection of jewelry from local artists. “A great choice for a hosting venue: trendy South Wedge locale, stylish interior, and an attractive selection of specialty apparel,” as told by Christopher B.

Yelp Collage Thread 1

While mingling among friends, a couple lucky yelpers landed a mini-makeover from Surface Salon, another South Wedge shop. Thanks go to Sue for styling Janice A’s up-do and to Jenny for Ashley R’s new look. Needless to say, these ladies are looking good!

Yelp Collage Thread 2

The yelpers got a taste of Get Caked’s chocolate raspberry and lemon mini-cupcakes and Bake It or Cleave It handed out salted caramel macarons and cotton candy that had Janice A jonesing for more, exclaiming, “Why didn't I grab one on my way out!” Snow Daze parked outside Thread and dished out snow cones for the guests. “Who knew how good classed up snow cones could be,” added James B. Last but not least, “Little Bleu brought cheeses from the Gods,” according to Laura W. Their spread of artisan cheeses and nuts were a savory hit.

South Bay Has Its Pie On You, Patxi's!

Posted by Abby Schwarz

Pie on You Collage 1

What's not to like about pizza, wine, beer and awesome Yelp Elites? Nothing! Hence all the 5-stars for our most recent event, Yelp's Got Its Pie On You @ Patxi's. Launching their 11th location on the West Coast, Patxi's graciously opened their doors to the South Bay Squad the night before they opened to the general public in the swanky Crescent Village neighborhood.

Patxi’s began in the summer of 2004 in Palo Alto, CA, when a pizza lover and avid entrepreneur, Bill Freeman, partnered with an old friend and expert pizza maker, Francisco “Patxi” Azpiroz. Today, nearly a decade and multiple locations later, the pair have turned their passion for fresh deep dish pizza and genuine hospitality into a signature experience that can only be summed up as “Patxi’s.” Much more than just another pizza joint, Patxi’s embodies what your favorite neighborhood restaurant should be—a warm, welcoming place where you can share a delicious meal with friends and family and feel like you’ve belonged all along.

Pie On You Collage 2The Patxi's concept was not lost on Elites like Leslie H who, "loved the interior design with its dark wood and minimalist lines. It was also obvious that the staff is really excited to be there and ready for their opening. I also liked the fact that the owners attend the event and said a few words about their passion for the food and the business. It really added a nice personal touch." Likewise, April P is "a sucker for high ceilings. The wooden tables, recycled from the Cal stadium, are a great touch too.  The staff?  Freakin' phenomenal. If every restaurant I visited had staff like Patxi's has I'd never eat at home. Probably some of the best service I've ever had."

On to the food and drink! As they walked in, guests were greeted at the bar with house Pinot Noir as well as Strike Brewing Company's IPA, "crisp and hoppy...just the way it should be!" noted Jim P. To the everyone's delight, antipasti and salad were served as the pizza was being prepared. And those with dairy restrictions, like Ly D, rejoiced in the green options: "The salad was amazing, there was a good balance of veggies and meat. Herbed chicken, Zoe's spicy salami, mozzarella, veggies, kidney beans, and roasted garlic vinaigrette, MMM! Doesn't that sound delicious?"

Pie On You Collage 3

But the big star of the evening had to be Patxi's pie. Liv K's "favorite food just so happens to be pizza, and Patxi's did not disappoint. I tried the Salsicca thin crust and the BBQ Chicken and they were both really good. The Salsicca was topped with crumbled sausage, ricotta and torn basil leaves. The crust was so good, I actually ate every last bite. No plain crust disgust here." Also a big fan of Patxi's, Sam W just had to vouch for the "amazingly good" Chicago style recipe, "perfectly cooked crust with a pastry-like flakiness, tons of cheese, and sauce that tastes like TOMATOES." Even die-hard NY style lover Kimberly A had to admit, "the pizza & offerings here are so unique- there is something for everyone. Their vegan pizza was an animal lover's heaven! - wheat crust, vegan Daiya "cheese" spinach onions & fresh roasted garlic!"

In addition to eating, drinking and being social with their fellow Squad memebers, South Bay Elites also donated money to TransAccess, a local non-profit who provides persons with disabilities in the San Jose area access to adaptive technology and career transition services. Our small event raised over $300 for the organization, which will go towards their summer camp programming. Now that's even sweeter than the honey on top of Patxi's pizza crust!

Pie On You Collage 4

Read all the 5-star reviews on Yelp and see the photos taken by superstar Elite Alex L on Flickr. Excited to come back and use the $5 gift cards we were given so we can write a review of the newest Patxi's, too!

Until our next get-together, SYOY!

Soirée Yelp Elites' Royal Night au Cabinet de Sa Majesté

Posted by Elodie

Yelp's Campbelltown Food Trail

Posted by Chloe

Trekking outside of their CBD comfort zones, 20 Yelpers made their way by bus around Campbelltown to get a taste some of SA's oldest, family owned businesses and their tasty treats.

This 3 hour adventure involving many tales of business ownership, tips for dining in Campbelltowna and tricks of the trade from SA food producers.

Food Trail 2

But instead of me telling you, how about we hear about the day from the mouths of Yelpers?

Michelle D

I was amazed by the diversity of the area. For example, I didn't expect there to be so many nationalities represented, and so many proud business owners passionate about their foodie area.  I love hearing passionate people talking about their businesses, it's so inspiring!

Joanne F

I really enjoyed learning about the various beans Mario sources from South America, Africa and Indonesia at Java Lifestyle Coffee and Tea. He also "debunked" some of the myths about coffees, oils in coffee beans, roasting or blending.

Susie C

If Jose he is a saint, he is the patron saint of fine pork products at San Jose Smallgoods. This is the first place I held up the bus, which is a bit ironic since I can't eat pork. But I was buying my sweet husband an aged chorizo and some beef bresaola. Their awards are amazing.

*Hidden tip*

Salta in Bocca isn't your ordinary almond bread producer. It sources as many of its ingredients from SA and produces the scrummiest savoury breads, gluten free croccantini and macarons around!

Lee L

At Delicias Argentinas Karina told us a bit about the history of the business and took us on a tour of their kitchen. My samples from the food menu were the Vacio Al Horno and Cuadril Al Horno; two beautiful slow cooked meats that were succulent and well marinated.

*Secret Squirrels*

Josephine at Jo Jo's Juice & Gallery is passionate about brining healthy food and drink options made from scratch to Campbelltown. She grinds and cooks organic beef burgers like a pro.

Sarah B

Mercato, to me, is like a foodie Bunnings specialising in Italian goodies. Smallgoods, bread, sweets, wine, homewares and more can be found here. I could easily spend an hour or two browsing in here!

Food Trail Elite 1

A big thank you to all of the business owners who shared their time and tasters with us on the Campbelltown Food Trail. Your passion and enthusiasm for what you do is reflected in the quality of your produce.

Check out some of the photos and reviews from the day for more insights to what went down on this super exclusive occassion!

Yelp Köln Elite Panini Workshop

Posted by Olli

Schmecken, riechen, mischen, nochmals schmecken.

What a day at a great location. The new Bistro Samido located at Hansaring opend their doors for our Yelp "Panini Workshop" before their official opening in July. From mixing own dressings to choosing from toppings. Our Yelp Elite Squad had the freedom to create their own "user generated" Panini.  "Wow! great Location!" states Anki K when she entered the brand new hip style place.

Tasting, smelling, mixing. Creating small mixes in Yelp shotglasses to find the perfect fit for the bread and the chosen toppings. Choosing from 26 different flavours and toppings didn't make it easy "Unbelievable, I don't even know what to choose. All way too delicious" notes Cosi M.

After 90 minutes of testing and tasting, the final four Paninis from the workshop tables were put out for the voting. Visitors and participants voted which one they liked most. The winner at the end, by close decision came from Stephan H. "The Mediterana" made it on the menu. When Samido opens it doors in July, "The Mediterana" will from now on be on their menu.

Read what our Elites tasted at the event, or have a look at the photos from this great day.

Have a great weekend and see you soon,

Buffalo Elites Meet The Great Gatsby @ Savoy!

Posted by Alex L

Following our outing last week to the Amherst Dipson to see The Great Gatsby, Yelp Elites showed up en masse at Savoy, a newly opened sleek gorgeous 20s Style Prohibition Tavern for a Soirée that went down in the record books as "one of the best Yelp events" that Kristin D "has been to." From the beautiful jazzy sounds of the Jon Lehning Duo, the improvisational dancing of Nancy Hughes and Scott Slocum, endless cocktails and bites; this was one unforgettable Sunday night.

Jamie T "loved the atmosphere," which gave her an excuse to "dress in theme with her most beloved era," and was blown away with their baquettes, her favorites being the "roasted turkey with Brie, Arugula with Raspberry Onion Jam" and "the smoked chicken with Caramelized Onions and Cremini Mushrooms with Goat Cheese and Fresh Sage." Lindsay A couldn't get enough of their famous deviled eggs, proudly announcing her favorite flavor as the "Buffalo-style (blue cheese and hot sauce)."

The cocktails were unforgettable. Adam Nugent (who got a few special shout outs in the reviews) put on a spectacular show of his craft and the carefully thought out drinks at Savoy. The Harrington with 42 Below Vodka, Cointreau Orange Liqueur, Chartreuse, and Caramelized Orange Oil required setting an orange peel on fire to complete. Bravo! Big shout out to Empire North for being a professional supplier of all these great brands.

These photo's above were graciously taken by Paul Fanara of Living in the Buff studio. Great big thanks to all the wonderful staff at Savoy for hosting us, the wonderful dancing of Nancy Hughes and Scott Slocum as well as the Jon Lenhning Duo for providing the jazzy sounds for the event.

Until next time, farewell Elites!

Lucky Lyon Yelpers, last Tuesday night, they got to enjoy an evening in an almost hidden Lyon museum, Musée des Moulages, and... to see some of their reviews printed in a great new Lyon guide, called COLLECTOR!

What is this Collector, then?

Edited twice a year to 60,000 ex by the Lyon Tourism Bureau, Collector will give the opportunity to both tourists and locals to discover Lyon as they didn't know it, with tips from two local insiders - website My Little Lyon and... Yelp Lyon, of course!

Collector contains food, nightlight or shopping activities and its more than 230 pages are available... for free! When visiting the city, just go to the Tourism Bureau on Place Bellecour (the biggest square in Lyon, impossible to miss) and grab your own Collector. Of course, an English version does exist!

The coolest PVD yelpers gathered at the coolest PVD bar for Yelp's Hip Sips Elite Event at The Avery – an evening of refreshing cocktails courtesy of Triple Eight Distillery and the master mixers of The Avery, righteous bites from North and a whole lotta minglin'!

Ashley P "had an amazing time at this event. The Avery is cozy and inviting – perfect for an intimate event such as this, and offered plenty of comfortable seating and tables to gather 'round and get to know our fellow Elite! Yelp GTA Elites Get SMASH’d @ SMASH Kitchen & Bar

Posted by Kris

After watching years of superhero movies and reading countless comics, the Yelp GTA Elite Squad was ready to practice their “HULK SMASH” as they convened at SMASH Kitchen & Bar in Markham for the Yelp GTA Get’s SMASH’d elite event.

Some would say that the term SMASH has multiple uses, and for this event Elites from all corners of the GTA would have to agree. Arriving promptly, Elites were welcomed with a bevy of beverages, a LOT of liquor and some SMASHING sips – to say the least! Elites got their drank on by sipping on signature Sangria’s made with wine provided by Tre Amici Wines & Spirits. Elites with a taste for savory sips, spiced things up a bit by imbibing a SMASH Caesar or two made with Tito’s Handmade Vodka. And a party wouldn’t be complete with out Steam Whistle Pilsner on hand pouring delicious craft draught all night long.

Drinks aside, Yelpers were anxious to start SMASHING down the upscale casual comfort cuisine of our hosts for the evening: SMASH Kitchen & Bar. Elites were treated to an array of treats ranging from, pizzas and calamari, to SMASH burgers and wings, "but the real star of the night was the ribs. The meat was falling-off-the-bone tender and I really liked the sauce" recalled Rob T. And just when we couldn’t eat another bite SMASH challenged our might by rolling out their signature mini doughnuts (careful they’re hot)!

The night was filled with good food, boozy bevies and best of all, new friends. Seasoned Yelp Elites welcomed a crop of new and returning Elites with open arms. And what’s more welcoming than a check-in for a $Free.99 fist bump SMASH from your friendly neighbourhood Community Manager, not too much!

Smash 4

Along with thanks to all the partners and sponsors involved who helped to make tonight’s event a SMASHING success, the biggest thanks of all goes out to those hero’s of suburbia themselves - the GTA-team, (the Greater Toronto Area Elite Squad)! And of course we couldn’t prove tonight’s awesomeness actually occured without the stellar snaps courtesy of the lovely Ms. Frankih K!!

¡Los Yelpers de Madrid están en La Gloria!

Posted by Lolo R.

Lolo R

Responsable de Yelp Madrid

It seems that the summer has arrived to Madrid, and with it, more than fourty Yelpers met last Wednesday in Bar La Gloria, one of the finest establishments in Malasaña, that has just been opened a few months ago. Yelpers as Eugenio S were treated with a sample of "almost all the menu, which proofs how generous and attentive were the responsibles of this project, with the wonderful Sol heading it". The Bar La Gloria is actually meant to be one of the references in the neighbourhood, specially because -as Manuel G points out- the owner buys everything in local businesses, something that he considers so important that even suggests her to put it up in the blackboard, for everyone to know about it.

Sergio S had the chance to have a bite (among others) of the tomato and tuna loin salad, beans and chickpeas hummus, croquettes and flamenquines (a typical Cordovan dish consisting on a veal fillet rolled up with cured ham coated with crumbs and deep fried). Rafael L loved this last one, and he explains that those come directly from Córdoba while he also makes a special mention of the carrot cake provided by Wicked Sweet.

Don't forget to leave your impressions on the event, take a look at the pictures and follow us on Facebook and Twitter. Do you want more? Take a look to see if you have what it takes to be an Elite!

Yelp Puts A Bird On It At Manon

The brass behind Midtown's Brasserie Pushkin are back with a new Betty by the name of Manon, which broke ground roughly one fortnight ago. The Maison Dellos Group's newest addition spans two-and-a-half floors and throws down a hybrid of French, American, and "pan-Asian" cuisine amidst décor that surely gives their West 57th Street counterpart a run for its money. Do we smell a sibling rilvary? Manon 1

With birds on people 'a plenty, delectable summary drinks from our pals at Starr African Rum (a great choice for Memorial Day Weekend imbibing - just sayin'), and an array of bites from the kitchen crew at Manon... we've seen plenty worse ways to spend a Monday in Manhattan.Manon 2For pictures of the festivities, click here. The Passport to Downtown Brooklyn

Posted by peter d.

Did you have as much fun as we did last week? If there’s one thing the Brooklyn Yelp Community learned, it’s that Downtown Brooklyn is more than just high rises and the Fulton Mall. With all kinds of fantastic, locally-owned businesses to explore all summer and beyond, the Passport has just piqued the interest of these urban adventurers.

The week started with the Kickoff Party at Palmer’s. As Sarit I swore, “Palmer's is like a gold mine, you don't know that it's there and then you find it and you're amazed by all the amazing-ness!” That describes a number of our favorite Downtown Brooklyn spots, so Palmer’s was perfect to kick off a week of awesome offers, deals and events!

That was just the beginning of Yelp’s celebration (and infiltration!) of the ‘hood. Tuesday night was all about local love, as Mitch E and Rony M upped the UYE ante with a Brooklyn Brewhouse gathering to cheer the Knicks on. The hometown team might’ve lost, but everyone wins with ½ priced appetizers (love those ribs)!

Brooklyn-born, Brooklyn-based, and Brooklyn-centric, The Art of Brooklyn Film Fest continued the hyper-local hits when they invited yelpers out to their opening night screening of RESCUE! BROOKLYN on Wednesday, a documentary film about Sean Casey Animal Rescue, a small rescue shelter and adoption center in Windsor Terrace. The film was uncontrollably cute as it showed off Sean’s "community first" approach toward how he runs his shelter, and made everyone in the audience want to adopt.

Footy fans flocked to NYC's premier soccer store Upper 90 on Thursday evening for what turned out to be a kickin’ time in the amazing shop. The absolutely awesome treats from local wingery Wingstop (sauces like you wouldn’t believe!) got the crowd hyped, and kegstands were only the beginning. Fridays are for Fulton Funk, at least when the energetic variety store Nicholas Brooklyn is involved! With live music, artists, vendors, complimentary wine and refreshments, the premiere of this funky showcase was such a smash that you can be sure we’ll see more down the line.

And as if that wasn't enough, these top-rated local spots offered a variety of awesome deals all week: Upper 90 Soccer & SportPiz-zettaPalmer'sConcord MarketShake ShackBrooklyn BrewhouseNew York Transit MuseumBrooklyn Martial ArtsGetloooseTripp & Cooper Café3B Bed and BreakfastAnnie's Blue Ribbon General StoreWingstopNicholas BrooklynRD CPTHair HeavenMisdemeanorMoCADA, and La Défense.

The fun doesn’t have to stop there though! These amazing local businesses and more are open for your business, so don’t sleep on Downtown Brooklyn any more. There’s also year-round deals offered at DowntownBrooklyn.com. Every month, you can access discounts to local businesses by clicking here. Keep an eye on the Weekly Yelp for even more, and we’ll see you soon.

Yelp MKE's Brew City Bash II: 100 Years Of Cream City History

Posted by Rachel Fell

What do you get when you put amazing local businesses, two photobooths, a unique + accomplished local band and one of Milwaukee's most gorgeous venues together for a night of 20s-era, Gatsby-themed fun?

You get Yelp's Brew City Bash II, of course!

Yelp MKE's second-ever Yelper Party – Yelp's Brew City Bash II – rocked the Milwaukee County Historical Society on May 18, 2013 in a seriously glam way. Milwaukee's brightest and finest were there, reppin' in jazz-age style: stellar libations from Great Lakes Distillery, Bryant's Cocktail Lounge, Lakefront Brewery, DRY Soda, and Cedarburg Coffee Roastery, as well as mind-blowing eats courtsey of Susie Chen's Potstickers, Ono Kine Grindz, Karma Bar & Grill, Simmer Soup Truck, Clock Shadow Creamery, VIA Downer, Rumpus Room, Blue's Egg/Maxie's, Times Square Pizza/Atomic Chocolates... c'mon MKE. You know it doesn't get much better than that!

Add to that the live music of unique + well-loved, local end-timey favorite The Scarring Party, tours of the historical society's collections, and photobooths by both The Traveling Photobooth and Angela Morgan of @AngelinePhotog and, well, you've got a night for dames and gents to remember.

Milwaukee Yelpers generously supported charity organization One Heartland as well as the Historical Society itself, to boot!

Check out our three sets of amazing photos, linked below:

1. the Traveling Photobooth pics (event password: HYRHE)

2. @AngelinePhotog's photobooth shots, complete with unicorn and squirrel head masks...

3. @LJerome's breathtaking candids of the event

A *huge* thank you to everyone who came out to the party, and to all our stellar vendors as well as The Scarring Party and MCHS. I was floored by how great everyone looked in their Gatsby garb, and by how much MKE love and pride could be felt throughout that gorgeous, gorgeous building. Events like this? They really exemplify why the four-one-four is such a fantastic place to be!

Until next time, SYOY Yelpers!

You think you know about bacon, but you have no idea...unless you were at the Elite Party at The Woods last night for Landhaus's epic offerings. They supplied what Denisa R attests were, "the biggest BLT sandwiches I've EVER seen in my ENTIRE life. This bacon was the god of all bacons because it was thick and meaty and not your typical flimsy little Oscar Mayer bacon." And it was good.

Forget Memorial Day, last night The Woods, the owners of one of the best backyards in the 'Burg, welcomed the Yelp Elite in for an awesome kickoff to the summer season. Landhaus's lovely staff spent significant time and effort into building a BLT for the ages. 36 feet of flavor, this sandwich was absolutely astonishing...And then they threw in some maple bacon sticks just for good measure. I hate to say it, but I think I enjoyed that porky, fatty deliciousness even more on a stick. Their new residence in The Woods backyard is going to make me a regular all summer long, because who needs a beach body (and this guy never had one).

Speaking of The Woods, they know how to throw a party! This dance hotspot is spacious and welcoming, with a staff dedicated to nothing but good times. It was a match made in heaven when they teamed up with our generous sponsor Tito's Handmade Vodka to serve up the cocktails everyone wants when the weather heats up. The Moscow Mule was perfect (ginger beer is always a winner when the mercury heads north of 80 degrees), and the Landhaus Mint Lemonade was the perfect complement to the award-winning vodka that hails from Austin. Nothing goes down smoother, and I don't want to drink anything else. Ever.

A huge thank you goes out to Javi and the Landhaus Team, Liz, Dave, Harper, Blakeypoo and the rest of the amazing staff from The Woods, and Melissa and Matthew of Tito's Handmade Vodka for throwing an amazing event. I can't wait to combine all three of these again and again in that beautiful backyard. Whether or not you made it out, make sure to check out all the reviews of the event, the photos from the lovely Melanie Fidler, and everything else. Thanks to all for helping us kick off the warm weather right!

Samurai Blue Rocks Again!

Posted by BrettNehls

When I started as Community Manager of Tampa Bay, I had the fantasy of hosting my first event at my favorite restaurant in the area. That dream came true, when last May, Samurai Blue hosted Konnichiwa Tampa Bay! In May of 2013, we celebrated the memories of one of the best Elite events ever, with The Yelpiversary. The result? I wish that we could hire the owners of Samurai Blue to train future Yelp event hosts on how to throw a perfect shindig. Seriously, the level of organization and awesomeness is just overwhelming here.

The food, in my opinion, is as good as it gets... but don't take my word for it – ask Christina C. "I am a sushi fanatic, so ever since I RSVP'd I've been anxiously waiting for this event to come. Samurai Blue definitely lived up to its hype as one of the best sushi places in the Tampa Bay area. Surprisingly, after the Lobster Tempura Roll, my next favorite dish was the Pork Cha Siu Bowl." For a second opinion, Cassie P is an echoer or sentiments. "I was introduced to Samurai Blue when I first moved to Tampa 7 years ago, and to me, it sets the standard for all other sushi restaurants. Today I got to sample so many different menu items that I don't usually order- and I can still stand by the aforementioned statement.

Venue people_small
In addition to the delightful delectables, the staff was crisp, organized, and as friendly as "all get-out" </southern guy talk.> Kerry J, say what? "This was probably the smoothest of all Yelp events I've attended. Everything was timed perfectly and we were even given a menu to see the incredible range of dishes we'd be sampling. It wasn't too crowded, too loud, or too chaotic. We were able to just sit back and watch all of the gorgeous offerings coming to our table." And winner of "Most Comedic Event Review" goes to Amy M... take it away, Ames. (We can call you Ames, right?) "Ah, just another Sunday afternoon getting wined and dined at a private party - wonder what all the uncool people were doing. The party tempo was very low key, compared to other Yelp bang outs - a welcomed soothing change. As usual, the most effort of the day was writing your name on the name tag - from there, you didn't have to lift a finger, just your chopsticks."

Samurai Blue's owners Yung and Rosa are truly Godsends to a Yelp community. I cannot express enough gratitude to them, nor can I convey the overwhelming feeling that their food brings to my taste buds. It's a sensation like no other. The only way that my job could be better, is if it were my responsibility to have an event here every month. Best. Anniversay. Ever.

Yelp si tinge d'Arancio

Posted by Valeria I.

Valeria I

"Yelp goes Orange... Well, Yelp goes all the colours of the rainbow" says Alba P about the May Elite Event. "Fantastic Yelp Event in a wonderful restaurant between Fontana di Trevi and Quirinale, in a small and silent alley where you forget to be in Rome", Giuseppe D continues to narrate. "Piccolo Arancio amazed us with traditional but creative roman receipts".

PicMonkey CollageENG
"Carlo and Mara, the owners, their waiters and chefs were so welcoming and the menu was amazing: crostini with cicoria and lardo di Colonnata, fried baccalà and zucchini flowers, orange ravioli, curry pasta, tonnarelli with prosciutto, lemon and timo, saltimbocca alla romana and panna cotta with strawberry topping", Alba P says it all.

PicMonkey Collageeng2
And the entartainment factor, in the words of Fabrizio F: "Name-tags with 5 different colours, each colour was an area of interest; this made us curious about one another in a gentle and funny way. And the discovery of tastes, flavours and ingredients of the dishes while blindfolded". "We discovered other people with open minds and new combinations of flavours with blind eyes", Cinzia C summarized it well.

PicMonkey Collageeng3
"5 stars for this last Elite Event: gourmet, fun, surprising, superyelpy and Yelp keeps being a good thing especially for the Elites", says Stefania C, "because we are cuddled and handled with kid gloves" (or with Yelp red socks?). Uber, our partner, gifted all the Yelpers with two rides of 25 euros each to reach the location of the event.

PicMonkey CollageFINal
"At the end there was the cake for the Yelp-Birthday of Valeria: one year as the CM with us, organizing events, keeping the talk thread alive, keeping an eye on the website... Yelp is more than a website, it is a community of people who spends time together, creating real and not just virtual relationships. Yelp is this and we like it that way!": Riccardo M is talking about this important aspect! And how we can forget the "old man that we woke up with our laughes", right Michela M?

PicMonkey CollageFINE
Thanks to all my Elites and Yelpers, thanks to Carlo, Mara, Matteo, Tarik and all the staff of Piccolo Arancio. Thanks to my photographer Riccardo Riande for the amazing pics and for the video (arriving soon). Thanks to Cristina F, Community Manager of Uber Roma.

Yelp Hamburg schwingt den Kochlöffel

Posted by Mareike

Was soll Heiko T da noch sagen?!

And here we go for the non-German-speaking: As one can probably tell by the pictures, the Hamburg Elite had a blast while enjoying a cooking class at the Hamburger Kochsalon. Divided in 7 groups we started cleaning, peeling and slicing the food and treated ourselves with some well deserved beers and wines. After 1.5 hours of "hard work" the Elite was ready to dig in! And there was more than enough to enjoy: spinach with chickpeas and goat cheese, pumpkin with bamboo and sesame, aubergine salsa, stewed cucumber with salmon, homemade BBQ-sauce and of course tons of meat. To top it all off, we finished the menu with deliciously brewed espresso and mouthwatering yoghurt icecream with mixed berries of the season. You can find the full photo stream on flickr and read the reviews here.

A massive THANK YOU goes to Christian Wrenkh and his lovely team at the Hamburger Kochsalon. Thanks for this fantastic experience!

Boston Elites Have A Rock 'Em, Sock 'Em Paint-Up Throwdown!

Posted by Damien S

Pack it up, Picasso. Get lost, van Gogh. Back off, Basquiat. Yelpers grabbed brush and brew to kick off Passport to Back Bay in true artistic form – with a Rock 'Em, Sock 'Em Paint-Up Throwdown at The Paint Bar!

The beloved Newton institution that transforms everyday Matts in to Matisses and Jenns to Georgia O'Keefes, celebrated the opening of their Newbury Street studio with a colorful Yelp soiree! Armed with slugs of Slumbrew (including, as Hannah R notes, "some very fresh Happy Sol--bottled mere hours before our event") and slabs of scrumptious pizza provided by Leah K's "new favorite Boston slice" – The Proper Slice, a posse of painters received Mia's professional guidance in crafting a funky Boston skyline, while jamming to Beebz, Blackstreet and Bonnie Tyler.

Officially kicking off Yelp's Passport to Back Bay, the party introduced some sweet custom swag and is just the first in a long line of community events in Boston's brownstone neighborhood. Dorise G puts it nicely: "I walked out with a beautiful painting and a buzz - an all-out win. Rarely do I leave a Yelp event with a sense of accomplishment, but this was a super sweet workshop and I can't wait to recommend this place to my friends."

Check out the five-star reviews, a little bit of post-party Talk glow and event visuals (tag 'em on Facebook), courtesy of Peter P! And we'll see you around another fine Passport party.

Yelp's Secret Supper - May 2013 Edition

May is such an exciting time of the year. Flowers bloom, the snow melts, people sit on the patio, and there's another Secret Supper! This May, the new and raved-about restaurant, Central Bistro & Bar welcomed 50 exuberant Denver diners for a rich spread of food accompanied with a zesty complimentary Breckenridge Distillery cocktail.

CentralCollage1As guests entered the chic spot complete with custom made iron-lattice walls emcompassing the entry way and a jumbo red sign glowing the word, HOT – our stomachs weren't the only thing in for a treat, but our eyes, too. Mingling with mixologists first and learning about local distillery, Breckenridge Distillery, the were able to loosen up a bit before diving into the magnificent three course menu.

To begin, an offer of Braised pork cheeks, grilled cornbread, sour cherry relish, and Dijon or Grilled asparagus with bone marrow butter, lonza, and demi glace was laid on the table (pun intened). "The Asparagus were grilled to perfection and its those kind of huge asparagus that Riza H. C. likes to have." And Alissa R demands: "I need more of that asparagus and bone marrow butter asap!"

Enticing entree options kept the guests even more excited as delectable dishes were presented. Choices of Pan seared Colorado hybrid striped bass with artichoke, asparagus and fingerling potato barigoule, central bacon, and castelvetrano olive or Marinated grilled bavette steak with spring harvest salad, carrot dijon dressing, poached egg, and veal jus graced our plates and happlily filled our stomachs. Mark S chimes in on the Bavette steak, claiming "it was a home-run on flavor. Everything had big bold and wonderful flavors, the sauce was lick-your-plate good. I appreciate that a potentially tough cut was wonderfully tender." To wrap up the goodness, two decadent desserts were served: a Sage macerated blackberries with lemon curd and amaretto ice cream or a Nutella waffle accompanied with rum bananas, candied pretzels, and pretzel ice cream. Dale Z puts it sweetly when describing it as "a symphony of sweetness with nice textural contracts from the waffle and pretzels."

Thanks again to the most wonderful hosts and talented staff and chefs at Central Bistro & Bar. To read up on more foodie highlights from the Secret Supper check out the reviews. For more information and to for future Yelp Secret Suppers, please visit here! Until next time, Denver, See You On Yelp!

North County Elites Eat All The Smashed Burgers...

Lucky NCSD Elites took their places at a sit down feast at Yelp's Smashburger Fest, celebrating the new location in San Marcos. A savory selection of sides and the best between two buns were served up in smashing style to the hungry squad. Read on to revel in the over-view: Once you hear the tale of this never ending Smashburger bonanza, you'll probably start to drool with jealousy! First

The new Yelp Party Pass got the guest-list in the door as fast as french fries frying and each Elite had a schwag-ed out seat set for them with Yelp treats and Smashburger welcome gifts! The North County Elite squad prides themselves on burger knowledge and the evening started with a crash/smash course in meatology from the knowledgeable Smashburger staff... then the food started flowing!  Burger

We started with a selection of sides: Smashfries, Sweet Potato Fries, Veggie Frites, and the melt in your mouth Haystack Onions. Before we could even take a breath, it was burgers on parade! SEVEN burgers came out one by one. Check out this menu: We started with the Classic Smash, tried the Truffle Mushroom Swiss Burger, bit into the BBQ Bacon and Cheddar Burger, sampled the San Diego, devoured the Spicy Veggie Black Bean, clucked about the Classic Chicken and ate up the Avocado Club! Food

For dessert a sampling of shakes and a back-room tour. Now we know all about the "secret menu" and how they smash those beef babies into perfection. This "getting to know you" intimate event couldn't have been better and questionnaires were collected that listed Elite foodie fantasies and burger dreams. Final

Yelp's Passport To East Sacramento: A Huge Success!

Posted by Alex L
East Sacramento has always been a beautiful, historic neighborhood, but never before have the small businesses there gotten the attention they really deserve. Yelp set out to change that last week with Yelp's Passport To East Sacramento, a week of amazing mobile check-in offers and almost nightly parties that brought folks down in droves to see the restaurants, shops and services that really make this neighborhood tick!

The week's 14 amazing check-in offers included everything from free drinks to free yoga classes to heavy discounts on clothing. To further highlight the store's behind these offers and to get our social media influencers in their doors, we held parties on five of the seven nights and got even more businesses involved. Our opening night party took place at Clark's Corner, a comfy East Sac staple known for classic American pub fare. After collecting special Yelp passport holder and shopping bag swag at the door, yelpers packed the back room and immediately began enjoying unlimited free Longboard Lager from Kona Brewing Company on the back patio, free photos from Rocket Photo Booths and tray after tray of goodies from the restaurant's kitchen.
On Tuesday, a whole new group of Yelpers came down to Article Fashion Boutique to check out their racks and take advantage of their incredible 20% discount on all purchases. At the same time, they enjoyed beats from DJ Micro, beer from Widmer Brothers Brewing and mouth-watering asparagus quesadillas cooked on the spot by Dos Coyotes, another great neighborhood restaurant. Even better, donations at the door went to a raffle for the Antelope Quilt Guild, which makes quilts for social services, newborns of parents deployed in war zones, end of life patients and local neonatal units.
Humpday marked our fundraiser fete at Happy Tails, a no-kill animal shelter and one of East Sacramento's most respected charities. It was our biggest lineup yet, with tasty bites like eggplant bruschetta from Evan's Kitchen, sausage and grits and locally-brewed beer from Hoppy Brewing Company, pork sliders from Dos Coyotes, Hopside Down and Citra Blonde Summer Brew from Widmer Brothers Brewing, and Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy and Crispin Cider. Close to $1000 was raised for Happy Tails, who also walked the crowd with dogs and opened their shelter so guests could see rooms filled with cats looking for homes. Some applications were filled out, so we'll keep our fingers crossed!
There were no concerns about how many Giants fans are on Yelp before close to 100 faithful packed one of Clubhouse 56's private viewing rooms on Thursday to watch a nail-biting win over the Colorado Rockies. Victory was made all the more sweet with a deluxe, all-you-can-eat free taco bar provided by our hosts and some amazing happy hour prices on everything from pitchers to pints.
The week finished up with an epic 200+ person soiree at three adjoining stores: SPARKLE Bridal Couture,Krazy Mary's, and The Pink House. Each is known for knowing good fashions, and that was evident to every visitor who got to wander from store to store and peruse the selection. Other sponsors helped highlight their beautiful spaces with complimentary beers from Widmer BrothersLeinenkugel's Summer Shandy andCrispin Original cider, wines from Michael David Winery, pizza from Giovanni's, desserts from Icing on the Cupcake and Nothing Bundt Cakes, hair styling and tips from Strands Salon & Day Spa, massages fromRooted MassageMassage Magnifique and Esther Rohr, CMP, more sweet shots from Rocket Photo Booths, music from DJ Micro and DJ Trait! Funds were raised once again for Happy Tails, which graciously brought down volunteers to help!
This was a first for Sacramento and we hope to do the same in another great local neighborhood down the road. NC Triangle Yelpers Live The High Life At Yelp Billionaires Club

Posted by Christina Gates

Donald Trump, step aside. Yelpers in the Triangle are high-class high rollers. Last Sunday at Yelp Billionaires Club, with your help, we raised nearly 1,300 pounds of food for the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina -- enough to make 2,045 meals! How's that for feeling like a billion bucks?

In true tycoon style, guests walked the red carpet to the entrance of Zinda -- dressed to the decadent nines -- where they were greeted by our host venue's gorgeous, gleaming space. Bartenders served up their choice of bottomless beverage... six varietals of Cupcake Vineyards wine, Crispin apple cider, Fox Barrel's blackberry pear cider, or one of New Belgium's beers. And Eschelon Hospitality dazzled with small bite delights from each of their five fabulous restaurants: Prosciutto Crudo (with pink grapefruit, chilis, white balsamic gastrique, and cantaloupe gelee) from The Oxford; Salmon Tartare (with kizami avocado mousse) from Sono; and tantalizing treats from Mura, Zinda, and Cameron Bar & Grill as well!

Top-notch entertainers, Head Over Heels, gave us athleticism and grace with show-stopping showgirl pole dancing and silhouetted go-go-girls, while our fave DJ, No Regret Productions, kept the energy going strong all night!

Back in the High Roller room, freshly minted billionaires took their turn at Simple Bliss Spa, receiving Pevonia and MoroccanOil skin treatments and back massages... smelling good and feeling even better -- talk about the royal treatment! Looking luxe, guests took a seat at the Tiger Direct caricature corner, and received some custom art. At the Diamonds Direct table, they bejeweled themselves in gems and pearls, before flashing a billion-dollar smile for the photobooth photographer.

Upstairs in the Casino, everyone tried their hand at Absolute Casino Live's roulette and blackjack tables, took a turn on Lenovo's state-of-the-art gaming equipment, and had a chance to win big-ticket techy prizes.

This would not have been possible without fantastic partners! A tremendous thank you to Amanda at Zinda; Tara at Eschelon Hospitality, Kelly M (Yelp intern extraordinaire!); and my Yelp Southeast team colleagues -- as well as to all our fantastic sponsors for contributing their time and talents. Please be sure to visit them, and send them some love!

Yelp's Brews Bash at New Jersey Beer Co.

Posted by Stephanie

Hudson County is known for a lot of things, breweries may not be one of them but, that is changing and New Jersey Beer Company is leading the charge. For three years, North Bergen's NJ Beer Co. has been producing beers and on Saturday they gave Yelp Elites a private tour and taste. After a quick tour with the head brewmaster, Yelpers were treated to pints of the Garden State Stout, the Hudson Pale Ale, the Abbey Single and the Weehawken Wee Heavy.

With all that beer, Yelp wouldn't let their elite crew go without food. Pretzel Crisps were a plenty to pair with the brews and the legendary Pat La Frieda and family were on site grilling up galbi short ribs and pork sausage. The legendary butcher was able to say a few words about his business (located just a few streets down from the brewery) and was at the grill's helm ready to answer any of those meat/grilling questions.

Overall, everyone seemed to make a few new friends, learn about a New Jersey brewery and eat some of the world's best meat and shake hands (and snag a pic) with the man behind the famous blends that make iconic NYC instituions like Minetta Tavern, Spotted Pig, Shake Shack and Blue Smoke famous.

Read what guests had to say here and don't forget to check out some food/beer porn here.

Yelp Phoenix Charlestons Through The Night!

On a warm evening in May, Yelp Elites traveled back in time to an era complete with the Charleston, champagne towers, glitz, glamour and plenty more! Central Bistro opened their doors and channeled the roaring twenties for an evening that included plenty of food, drinks, entertainment and fun!

First collage

A red carpet greeted Elites and their guests into Central Bistro while the CrackerJack Jazz Band played lively tunes once they were inside. Upon arrival, servers greeted Elites with trays of wine and Wrap Arizona snapped photos of all the guests, many of whom dressed in theme for the occasion! The room was transformed into a scene from roaring twenties complete with floral decor from The Art of Living and the beauty of the restaurant itself.

Party collage

Throughout the evening, Yelpers dined on a seafood buffet that included plenty of crab and shrimp. A charcuterie table included several meat and cheese options and a large pot of paella enticed guests as well. The made-to-order Banana’s Foster lured those with a sweet tooth, while others snuck a piece of candy or two from the candy bar. If that wasn’t enough, servers continuously passed trays of other tasty snacks that included French onion soups, mini beef wellingtons, and mini burrata!

Food Collage

Elites washed down the cuisine with plenty of wine, a champagne tower as well as an Absinthe bar and luckily Uber was there, offering free car rides to and from the event! The night was certainly magical and Elites were surprised by Gene Urban, the magician hired by Scottsdale Music & Entertainment, who had a few tricks up his sleeve as well!

Party two collage

Elites and their guests had a roaring good time and everyone left with a goodie bag complete with cookies, gumballs and coupons to return to Central Bistro for a future visit! Some Yelpers were even lucky enough to win tickets to iPic and the Ameri-CAN Craft Beer Festival!

Partythree collage

A special thank you goes out to Central Bistro for hosting the party, Uber for providing free car rides, Wrap Arizona for taking pictures, CrackerJack Jazz Band for lively tunes, The Art of Living for their floral décor, and Scottsdale Music & Entertainment for bringing the Sleight of Hand magician, Gene Urban! Take a look at the reviews and pictures from the night!

Yelp's Epic Icebreaker At Roseville Cozinha!

It was a night full of shucking and sipping when Yelp San Diego paired up with Roseville Cozinha — a new edition to the thriving neighborhood of Liberty Station for yet another successful SD Elite Event aptly named, Yelp's Epic Icebreaker. "I finally got to pop my Elite Event cherry! I was super excited that I got to attend this event, it was great to see how things go down in the Elite world" admits Samantha S. "The event was pretty awesome" and there were copious amounts of cocktails provided by the Roseville staff (specialty drinks), American Harvest (mule station), Epic Wines (wine station) and El Jimador (shots)!

Roseville Cozinha wowed 150+ Yelpers with specialties like farmer's market veggies, a selection of wood-fired pizzas, tomato basil soup, a Venisimo Cheese station, a charcuterie / cheese station and the crowd favorite oyster station. Jesse, you're a shucking machine! The entire staff of Cervantes (bartender), Maile (bartender), Stephanie (pizza's), Bryce (runner), Megan (runner) Gaby (runner) and Craig (Chef) have a new fan in Mel J who was "Seduced by gourmet thin-crust artisan pizza and fired up in a wood-fired oven as hot as molten lava, I succumbed to the charms of Roseville Cozinha." She also had a chance to meet the man who made everything happen...  the owner, Michael. "He introduced himself to us, and he is very knowledgeable and experienced with the art of creating gourmet pizzas. He is justifiably proud of what a fantastic place Roseville Cozinha has become."

Local musician Scot from Paper Moon set the mood as the room and patio full of Elites "broke the ice" throughout the evening. Naturally, one of the highlights of Elite Events in our burgeoning Yelp Community is the opportunity to mix and mingle offsite with your fellow Elites and Yelpers were rubbing shoulders and making fast friends at every turn. Juan R comments, "This was one of the many Yelp events where I've had an awesome time meeting up with friends from all around town. I met some new people and hung out with old ones." Group hug!

Yelp's Work In Progress at Promise Studios

Posted by Michelle C

On Friday evening, Yelp Elites and their guests trekked north to Kensington for Yelp's Work In Progress at Promise Studios. The large warehouse is home to several artists' studios, including the studio of Betsy Casañas, designer and painter of nearly fifty public murals in Philadelphia and beyond.

The vibe was super chill and live music only served to enhance that feeling. Beverage sponsors Narragansett and Spodee were a huge hit with the group and libations went down easy.

For Elite Tara G, "the highlight of the evening was participating in the mural painting... How cool am I going to sound to my friends when I drive by the new Department of Human Services building at 2nd and Rising Sun and say, "Hey! I painted some of that!" That's right guys, be jealous."

Yelpy thanks go out to all of the amazingly talented artists who welcomed us into their studios, SideCar for hooking us up with free rides to and from the event, our beverage sponsors, and the Yelp Elite Squad members and guests who attended the event. In case you missed it, check out what people are saying, take a peek at the photos, and catch up on reviews of the event.

Yelp Miami’s Happy To Have The Blues

Posted by Johnny Todd

No one’s ever going to confuse the Beach with Beale Street or salsa with soul… but that doesn’t mean that you can’t try. Geographically located in the Southeastern United States, Miami has about as much in common with the deep south as Athens (Greece, not Georgia). Until now. The geniuses at Swine Southern Table & Bar transformed a stretch of Ponce de Leon into a sweltering slice of the Mississippi delta — which gave over 120 extremely lucky Elites the chance to find out what happens when Yelp’s Got The Blues.

8747451813_8c66f9dd0a_b 8748599350_c133f11cf2_b 8748608844_291d3fb3a6_b 8748609270_b5661d2f5c_b

Known for being a culinary master and creating menus not widely seen in the 305, chef Phil Bryant might as well have turned Coral Gables into Memphis, Tennessee. Elites were elated to try his award-winning food creations. Think you’ve had Southern fare before? Think again. Actually, think Gem Lettuce Wraps (crispy pig ears, roaring forties bleu cheese and heirloom vegetables); Ham 'N Peaches (grilled peaches wrapped in Virginia ham, Virginia cheddar and sherry drizzle); Hush Puppies (deviled blue crab and pickled celery); BBQ On A Stick (Kansas City Burnt Ends, molasses mop and fried cornbread); and Liver 'N Onions (wood-grilled foie gras, corn johnny cakes and pickled onion marmalade).

He wasn’t finished.

A bona fide Southern surf 'n turf in the form of a Crawfish Boil (assorted mignonettes, wood-grilled cocktail sauce and bennie seed crackers) 'N Charcuterie Boards (complete with smoked head cheese, selection of hams and salumi from Virginia and housemade Tasso ham) stole the show and took up the communal table in the downstairs dining room. The food didn’t end with savories. Cupcakes in the form of S'mores and red velvet delighted guests while cups of strawberry shortcake made them forget all about their diets.

Caution thrown to the wind, thrilled Elites concentrated on the drink menu. Created from premium Atlantico Rum, Robert Ferrera showcased why he’s the man to watch when it comes to cocktails. The South By South Sidecar and Rum Old Fashioned treated guests to fantastic new taste sensations. Buoyed by the night of craft cocktails, Ferrera gave guests one last knockout punch — Run Pig Run Punch (winner of the 2013 Punch Kings competition). For those whose tastes hover around hops, Samuel Adams provided a variety of their award-winning craft brews. And if this wasn’t enough, Victor Martinez filled the venue with lost-job-wife-left-you-dog-died blues.

This was an event not to be missed. Ecstatic Elites raved about the experience here. Ace photog Alex H captured what you might have missed out on here. While nobody gets outta this place without singing the blues, when they’re served up Yelp & Swine-style, you won’t mind at all.

Yelp's Brinner Bash in Baltimore!

Posted by Elsa M.

What a night! Yelp Baltimore Elites experienced the most magical of meals... the unicorn of cuisine: breakfast for dinner! Hosted by one of the city's havens for this morning-time meal, Miss Shirley's in Roland Park, "Yelp's Brinner Bash" brought the goods!

Devonshire B sums up the celebration's super spread: "Bottomless Mimosas and Bloody Marys? Check. Waffle bar, including cream cheese drizzle, homemade whipped cream, fresh fruit, chocolate morsels? Check. Servers offering trays of BLT and regular deviled eggs? Check. Servers also offering trays of delectable mini crab cakes, with succulent chunks of meat? Check. Chicken sliders, shrimp and grits, Cuban sandwiches, filet on toast, avocado-fried green tomatoes-bacon-egg on rye toast, the freshest and sweetest strawberries I've tasted to date (the list goes on)? Check, check, check, and CHECK!"

With all the offerings, it took two buffet tables, passed apps, a waffle station, and a Bloody Mary/Mimosa station to make it all work, but it was the Miss Shirley's staff that really made the night.

"Miss Shirley's was cranking out those delicious nibbles like it was nothing," Courtney C exclaims. "The staff was on the spot...  I could not have asked for more."

Modyssey G seconds her thoughts. "Miss Shirley's outdid themselves for us Yelpers!  The service was on point, and the staff stayed on top of everything. They made sure all food was replenished as soon as possible, and also checked in on us regularly after we were seated. I want to give a BIG thank you to all the staff!"

When Elites weren't mixing it up and munching away, they were bobbing their heads to dope beats from DJ Stress of The Digilog Crew, taking pictures in Jon-Michael Moses Photography's fun photobooth, and catching up with a screening of "The Breakfast Club" in a secondary, private room. A rousing round of "Miss Shirley's Trivia" earned a handful of Elites pairs of tickets to the best wine festivals in the area. All in all - a truly delicious time was had by all!

Until the next time: SYOY!

The Yelp Elite Sushi Smackdown

Posted by Christina C.

Columbus Elites brought their appetites - and a little friendly competition - to the Yelp Elite Sushi Smackdown @ Fusian last week.

(props to our video producer, Benji Robinson!)

Fusian - a fresh-casual sushi restaurant serving a unique experience that allows you to create your own roll - features local, fresh, and natural ingredients.

Taking it up a notch, Elites were placed on teams that competed to be crowned creators of the best-tasting sushi roll, as determined by our panel of local "celebrity" judges. Rounding out this panel were radio DJ, Krista Kae, from CD102.5FM, brewmaster of North High Brewing, Charlie Davis, and surprise judge, Matt R, an Elite who won this opportunity based on our on-site raffle! The winning team took home giftcards from North High Brewing & water bottles from Fusian.

Filling the night with delicious, local beer were partners (and Fusian near-neighbors) North High Brewing - a brew-on-premise establishment that offers DIY brewing and bottling, as well as a full service bar.

Catherine J explains,

This event had it all-- great (and plentiful!) food, drink, and activities designed to help us mingle. Oh my gosh, and the BUSINESS OWNERS. Seeing the guys from Fusian and North High Brewing come out and have fun with us was pretty much priceless. These are amazing people with amazing visions and Columbus is amazing for having them. Seriously, the energy these guys gave (and the hardworking Fusian line team) took the event from "great!" to "amazing!"

Want to read what everyone else thought about the party? Check out the reviews HERE! All of our amazing photos - click here to see them on our Flickr page - are courtesy of David Sherry, local freelance photographer.

SYOY (see you on Yelp) until the next one!

Yelp's Great Gatsby Elite Event @ Studio Movie Grill

Posted by Farrah Akhtar

The red carpet rolled out, as the Houston Yelp Elite Squad made way to Studio Movie Grill CityCentre for a viewing of The Great Gastby

Yelpers donned their best 1920s attire – fellas in black tuxes and top hats, ladies in flapper dresses and boas – and enjoyed a pre-movie hour complete with light bites and refreshments. A buffet of chicken skewers, cucumber canapes, fruit kabobs, and nachos filled plates, as yelpers sipped on pre-prohibition style lager Batch 19 and crisp and refreshing Leinenkugel Summer Shandy, as well as wine. Come showtime, Elites walked the red carpet and into the theater, as candy and popcorn awaited.

Did ya miss out on all the action, old sport? Yelper David N was sure to capture all of the Great Gatsby moments with amazing photos. And Elites shared their experiences with raving reviews!

Until the next one, old sport, I'll SYOY!

Yelp Gets B-Oyster-ous @ The Samuel J Moore

Posted by Evelyn W

Mescal? Check. Bubbly? Check? Oysters? Shuck yes! Yelp Gets B-Oyster-ous was one fabulous Elite Event.

The Samuel J Moore spoiled us silly with oyster shucking stations (did you know they do Buck-a-shuck happy Hour from 5-7 daily?!) and other scrumptous snacks at their stunning space at Queen W and Dovercourt What were Jen C's Food faves? "Everything was pretty damn tasty, top honours go to the kimchi deviled eggs and the watermelon rind mignonette. And, of course,  the oysters! I look forward to checking out Chef Alexandra Feswick's cooking again soon." Us, too! And while you're there be sure to check out one of their refreshing artisan cocktails... The Samuel J Moore sure knows hot to make getting tipsy tasty.

Yelp Elites From 25 US Cities Converge Upon New Orleans for Yelp Spring Break 2013

Posted by Joi

Last weekend, the Yelp Elite from over 25 cities came down to New Orleans for Yelp Spring Break to experience our fine city like a local, with locals

We're talkin' four days packed with special events, tours, bar crawls and parties galore On Thursday, we started off with registration, where everyone picked up their gift bags and special YSB buttons and custom go-cups and later that afternoon, the Yelp Like A Pirate Welcome Party at Indulge Island Grill, where we enjoyed light bites, New Orleans Ice Cream and cocktails made with Old New Orleans Rum. The jazzy sounds of Viper Mad had us swaying and everyone stepped into the Big Easy Photobooth for some souvenir shots!

Think that was enough partying for one night? Think again, for right after the Welcome Party, our first mates headed on over to the Fountainbleau Room for the Pirates vs Ninjas vs Zombies vs Madonna Bash at Fountainbleau Room where the party took place on their giant wrap-around balcony overlooking University Place and Canal Street, offering a most idyllic New Orleans experience. There were complimentary cocktails, thanks to our booze sponsors, VnC Cocktails. Jambalaya Girl & Cook Me Somethin' Mister spooned up the jambalaya to help sustain everyone's (drinking) power (though Madonna seemed to win hands-down over the other invincibles!)

On Friday, the Steamboat Natchez Exclusive Event offered us an incredibly delectable complimentary buffet and St. Germaine champagne cocktails and more in their Magnolia Suite. Everyone enjoyed the tours of the boat (the engine room was of particular interest!) and the hospitality of the staff blew us away!

Friday night we enjoyed the grandest gala of them all! The Yelp Spring Break Block Party had locals coming out in droves to join our visiting Elites and show them why New Orleanians put the fest in festival! Although the weather prevented us from our original intention to have the party under the stars (we feared it would have been more like under the lightening!) Harrah's New Orleans, our main sponsor for the big event, wonderfully accommodated our attendees, vendors and entertainment inside.

To clue you in to our fabulous Yelp Spring Break Block Party vendors and entertainers, we had incredible edibles from Tomas Bistro, Daisy Dukes, Borracho, Manning's, Harrah's Buffet, The Kupcake Factory, Besh Steakhouse and Plum Street SnoBallendless complimentary libations from Rougaroux Rum and Oryza Vodka from D-P Distillers, Covington Brew House, Gordon Biersch Brewery and Woodchuck Cider. Honest Tea was on hand to provide us with a non-boozy option and Little Soya added the perfect seasoning to our food samplings.

See more photos by Richard Strasbourg on flickr!

A New Orleans celebration without music and dancing? Oh hell, no! Jayna Morgan & The Sazerac Sunrise Band had everyone swinging and doing the Charleston and funky-as-hell NOLA brass renditions came to us from Dysfunctional Bone. As if that wasn't enough to get everyone moving, we all caught some Dance Fever from New Orleans dance and parading group, The Disco Amigos. Although the suggestion was to come dressed in the spirit of your city (tutus, wigs, and Saints Jerseys represent!) we also had our faces painted and prettied up by the amazing make-up artists at The Purple Penguin Art Co. Be sure and read the reviews – there was so much going on that our yelpers describe so beautifully!

Bright and early Saturday morning, six lucky Elites got to experience cooking up a gourmet meal fit for a Mardi Gras king (and fit for themselves!) at a super exclusive Cook (and eat) like a New Orleanian complimentary brunch at Langlois Culinary Crossroads. Sausage and sweet potato Cajun hash sound good to you? How about lemon curd crêpes? All washed down with a mimosa. Can it get any better than that, we wonder?

Yes, everyone knows it's important to eat their way through New Orleans, not to mention drink. Oh, there was plenty of that happening later on Saturday afternoon at the complimentary Tour & Tasting of Old New Orleans Rum Distillery! We all got to glean important information on how the rum is aged in barrels and more, but who can remember after all those incredible rum drinks and samples?!

You might be thinking, wow, it's Saturday afternoon, time for nap... Not! This is New Orleans and there's always time for more partying. This one was the Wine Straight Out Of The Oven With IJ Reilly at I.J. Reilly's Knick-Knacks & Curiousities, where we found the most U/F/C (that's unique, funny, cool) nifty gifties to bring home and remind everyone of the awesome time that was had at Yelp Spring Break, all the while chowing down on snacks that would make Ignatius and Mrs. Reilly proud!

Yelp Spring Breakers by now knew, where one shindig ended, another began – and this was the theme of the weekend of course. Saturday evening had us prepping for that evening's Mod About St. Claude Crawl  by choosing one of two special dinners on the Avenue. There was the Sausage Fest @ Borracho, where Chef Chris Smedley offered up three courses of Housemade Potato Chips, Crispy Chicken Livers with Charred Scallion Aioli, Pepper Marmalade and a Sausage Sampler w/ Pomme Frites, House Aioli & House Ketchup, plus beer, compliments of Sam Adams and a blueberry mojito. Sugar Park offered up an array of specialty meat or veggie pizzas, sandwiches, salads and desserts, plus complimentary tropical cocktails, perfect to enjoy in their lush tiki garden!

Participating businesses in the Mod About St. Claude Crawl included Siberia, Faubourg Wines, Sugar Park, Kajun's Pub, NOLA Veggie Fest and Saturn Bar. Need A Ride Pedicab offered intrepid Elites rides between stops.

All weekend, Elites competed against each other to win the coveted title of superior scavenger hunter on the GooseChase app and winners were honored at the GooseChase Closing Party @ Sugar Park where we showed the weekend's hilarious photos on the big screen. Our winner, Scott F from Sacramento, won bottles of Rougaroux Rum and Oryza Vodka from D-P Distillers and a bottle of Cajun Mary mix from Daisy Dukes. Second place went to our lovely local Shercole K!

Sunday was all about UYEs (that's "Unofficial Yelp Events") offered up by our local NOLA Elite Squad and yes, as was typical of the weekend, the "evening" ended after sunrise. But first, there was the Elite Tour of Mardi Gras World that had us touring the Mardi Gras float dens, tasting king cakes and trying on ball gowns!

Wait, there's more! There were the daily  Brilliant Bike Tours To Bywater & Marigny @ Confederacy of Cruisers had Elites visiting lovely parts of town filled with Creole Cottages, fascinating landmarks and unique local businesses. We learned all kinds of interesting NOLA history and fun facts., thanks to our fearless– and well-informed– leader.

And then there was also the ongoing special offers throughout the weekend from our Yelp Spring Break participating businesses:

Indulge Island Grill

NOLA Veggie Fest

Langlois Culinary Crossroads

Original New Orleans Movie Tours

French Quarter History & Ghostbuster Tours

Bayou Kayaks

Steamboat Natchez/Gray Line Tours

Cajun Pride Swamp Tours

Old New Orleans Rum Distillery

Mardi Gras World

Rio Mar

A clip from one of our favorite reviews that feel really captures what YSB is all about: "The only thing that could top 2012 Yelp Spring Break, will be subsequent Spring Breaks... The people who attended where the cream of the crop from their cities, they emulated everything a Yelper should be: fun, smart, sharp, witty, clever, funny, interesting, engaging.  Everyone I met, I wanted to sit and talk with or walk and drink with or go and eat with.  And I want to have Spring Break in all of their cities, just to get to know them better and have them show me the best of their cities." Thanks, Melissa A, we couldn't have said it better ourselves.

Good times were had, sights were seen, friendships were made, tons of incredible food and drink were consumed... And not one single keg stand was had! Yelp Spring Break... being a grown-up has never been so fun!

NOLA Yelp misses you already! But SYOY! (See You On Yelp!)

Soirée les Elites Yelp s'exposent @ Rétine Argentique - Marseille

Posted by Julie M

Posted by Andreas R

Andreas R

For this Elite Event we had a rather unusual location, as it took place in a language school in Vienna´s first district - the Eton Institut. The evening was dedicated to the Japanese culture and was lead by a lady from Japan, who first gave us an introduction on Japan. Afterwards she showed us how to roll sushi and every Yelper could try it out for himself - the outcome was pretty impressive. This was followed by an origami workshop and a Japanese language class where everybody learnt some basic Japanese words.
A big thank you to Noriko who guided us through the evening and to Ines from Eton Institut who welcomed us with her team.
As usual, check out the pictures from the event and read what the Yelpers thought about it here!

Glasgow’s Meet the CM: Aperol Aperitivo & Pizza Party @ Firebird

Posted by Briony C

The sun was shining down on Glasgow last Wednesday night as 30 Glasgow Yelpers made their way to Firebird for a delicious evening of Aperol apéritifs & pizzas at the Meet the CM event!

PicMonkey Collage 1

Our special guest of the night was Loris from Aperol – he even flew in from Italy just for the event, rumour has it straight from his gondola – and he made sure all the Yelpers had an Aperol Spritz to sip as soon as they arrived, adding what Ben M thought was ‘a real kick to the night!’. Loris chatted to the Yelpers about the perfect time for enjoying an Aperol: in the sun, with some light bites. While we can’t even guarantee sunshine in Glasgow, Firebird makes you feel all warm and sunny with its beautiful bright orange feature wall and floor to ceiling windows!

PicMonkey Collage 2

Yelpers sampled three Firebird pizzas: spiced lamb, courgette and Serrano ham which were a hit all round! One Yelper noted that ‘pizza was snarfed up so quickly--surely a good sign if it's all gone! The Ham and Rocket did not disappoint and I couldn't wait to try some more!’

PicMonkey Collage 5

It was then time for the Yelp pizzas: before the event, Yelpers had submitted their ‘dream pizzas’ and three were selected to be made on the night. Congrats to Jen W, Nicola C and Elizabeth T for getting their pizzas to the final!

PicMonkey Collage 3

Jen W’s McMegatron featured goats’ cheese, caramelised onion and haggis – a true Scottish pizza! Nicola C went for something a little different with chickpeas, chorizo, red pepper and Manchego cheese (the Sensational Spanish!). The Thrilla by Elizabeth T was topped with caramelized onion, pine nut, pears, green salad and gorgonzola!

PicMonkey Collage 4
Voting took place while Yelpers sipped on the second drink of the night: Aperol Sour! Jen W was proclaimed the clear winner with her haggis pizza and collected bragging rights as well as having her pizza featured on the Firebird menu for the next month!
PicMonkey Collage 7
You can check out all the reviews of the night here, the photos here, and find me – Briony C – o Yelp here! A huge thank you to everyone who made the event such a wonderful night: Firebird, Robin for the photos, Loris from Aperol and Nucoco for providing wee gift bags of chocolates for the guests!

Elitarny wieczór w Tajlandii (no dobra, w Warszawie)

Posted by Karolina

Oczekiwanie na masaż umilało wino śliwke i tajskie przekąski: białe curry, pad thai z krewetkami, owoce i babeczki inspirowane tajskimi smakami. We found out what Thai massage actually is, in both theory and practice. While waiting for our 1:1s with a professional Thai masseues, we enjoyed plum wine and Thai snacks: white curry, Pad Thai with shrimp, fruit and Thai-style cupcakes. And Chinese fortune cookies that supposedly existed in Thailand as well. Yelp Honolulu Cooks It Up With A Place To Eat

Posted by Emi H

50+ lucky Yelp Elites attended an casually intimate Elite only gathering for a tasting of A Place To Eat.
