Blue Moon Brewing Co & Fitzgerald's Irish Pub Give Charlotte Elites...Everything But The Kitchen Sink

Plain and simple, Mondays don’t’ suck when you’re a member of the Charlotte Elite Squad. Psh. It might as well have been a 3-day weekend this time ‘round. Our Charlotte Elites gathered at Fitzgerald’s Irish Pub in Uptown for a 4-course dinner paired with sensational seasonal brews from Blue Moon Brewing Company. We’re not talking plain Jane either. Four brilliantly crafted courses that utilized the brews themselves as ingredients.

Photo 4

We kicked off the evening at the bar, toasted a few tall pours of Belgian White, and snacked on a few passed hors d’oeuvres. Mike D’s got it right – “Hors d'oeuvres were banging and the bartender was slinging us drinks pretty quick.” Kathryn M adds, “The beginning walk around apps were delicious (especially the jerk scallops) and the social time was nice.” Promptly after a few brewskies at the bar, the crowd found their way into the private dining room to be whisked away in to beer-land with Ben Dolphens – Blue Moon Brewer Extraordinaire.

From there…goodness. It’s just a blur of plates and pint glasses flying throughout the room. Fitzgerald’s staff brought the heat in placing Chef Deacon’s expertly paired menu in front of each guest. Things started off nice and smooth – “For starters we had the goat cheese and sun dried tomato profiteroles paired with the Rounder Belgian style Pale Ale. Yum!! I was a huge fan of the goat cheese and onion marmalade...simply delicious,” says Candyce B. Onward to the Agave salad with hearts of palm and a lime vinaigrette paired with the Agave Nectar Ale and then BOOM -- Chicory and Molasses Braised Short Ribs paired with Blue Moon’s Short Straw. Joe A notes, “So tender! If that had been served for all 4 courses I would have been a happy camper!” For dessert, dark chocolate panna cotta with Blue Moon’s Blackberry Tart Ale. Palates were seduced indeed.

Photo 2
Oh, but the madness didn’t stop there. Our friends from Blue Moon raffled off one of their fantastic pieces of artwork for one lucky guest AND sent everyone home with their very own 12-pack of Blue Moon’s seasonal brews featured for the evening! Our lucky Elites even got to take home their stylin’ Elite ’13 Socks! “The take home items were outstanding!  I am rocking my socks off as we speak,” says Mike D.

Channeling Don Draper At Manhattan Proper

Manhattan Proper Bar and Social Club is the newest addition to New York's TriBeCa/Civic Center neighborhood. With the impending completion of the World Trade Center and the Fulton Street transit hub, Lower Manhattan is once again becoming a vibrant destination and Manhattan Proper is thrilled to be a part of its rebirth. Mp1

Manhattan Proper epitomizes metropolitan culture and draws inspiration from the societal idiosyncrasies which make New York City a vibrant and desirable place to live. With an ever-changing menu based on locally sourced foods and a vast array of signature cocktails, Manhattan Proper provides an ideal location for corporate power lunches, post-work strategy sessions and friendly nighttime gatherings. But instead of reading that... why not take a glimpse at their Yelp video hereMp2

For this nifty soiree, we partnered our friends at Domaine Select featured Alibi American Whiskey and G'Vine Gin. Both ripe for after work libations in the Financial District. Click here for photos of the evening's festivities, and for reviews, guide your mouse here

Yelp Manhattan Gets A Dose At The Daily

The Daily, located where Monday Room once grew roots, is Public's siamese twin in Nolita. The NYC-centric cocktail bar is a handsome mashup of leather booths, beautiful people, plenty of mirrors, enough art to make a Rockefeller feel jealous. Daily1They take their craft here seriously: fresh fruits and garnishes, perfectly shaved and shaped ice cubes, Mason jars, tinctures and bitters like whoa, and absolutely no presence of Red Bull in sight. And as the name suggests, the menu of daily cocktail specials changes, well... daily. And thanks to our friends at Domaine Select, any drink with Whistlepig Rye Whiskey and Rhum JM was complimentary throughout the evening. Check out reviews and photos of the soiree to relive the fun. Daily2

Yelp Manhattan Hops To Alphabet City

While craft beer has been a thing on the west coast for some time (and a huge deal in the monk community for like, 8 billion years), NYC has arguably been a litte behind the curve of the hoppy IPA trend. But Alphabet City Beer Co. is out to change that. It's a unique store offering a 350+ inventory of bottled craft beers, a craft cheese and meat counter, groceries, and fresh bread for customers to take and enjoy at home. In addition, they  also have 12 constantly rotating draft beers on tap for pints or half pints to stay, as well as for growler filling for home consumption. They also offer a menu of small bites, meat and cheese plates, Sigmund's Pretzels, sandwiches, and Tompkins Square Bagels. Even better: guests are always welcome to settle down at their 16-foot-long communal table or one of their leather armchairs and make use of the free Wi-Fi. Score!Abc1

On this particular evening, beer was lovingly provided by our pals at Brooklyn Brewery and Alphabet City Brewery. Photos and reviews await - click away! Abc2

Yelp St. Louis Brunches Drag Style @ Hamburger Mary's

Posted by Aimee

St. Louis Yelp Elites rolled out of bed on a bright Sunday morning to have brunch at Hamburger Mary’s. Sound boring? Maybe… if there weren't bottomless mimosas and Queens present. That’s right, Queens. Hamburger Mary’s broke out their finest silverware and drag show performers to give Elites the best, and maybe only, drag show brunch they would ever attend.

Hamburger Mary’s provided a fully stocked brunch buffet complete with biscuits & gravy, cheesy hash brown casserole, bacon, sausage, french toast, danishes, and eggs. Just trying a little bit of everything left Yelpers stuffed, and Hao Xwent home and food coma-ed for the rest of the day”. We all did, but Hao X put it perfectly!

No brunch buffet is complete without bottomless mimosas. Hamburger Mary’s must have been tipped off that Yelp Elite’s love their morning pick-me-up in the form of OJ & Champagne because they kept the good-stuff flowing. It’s a good thing they did, too, because how else would Sal E sing along to Mariah Carey without her mimosa microphone?!

After an hour of open buffet, the fantastic performance began! The Queens got dolled up for Yelp with massive hair, gaudy jewelry, high-heels, and award-winning performances. They kept the crowd laughing and engaged throughout the entire performance. The Queens managed to make their way to the Yelp crowd and give them a warm welcome with plenty of heckling and photos for tips.

Amanda K summed up this Elite event better than we could: “What’s better than a delicious brunch with hilarious drag queens entertaining you?” Nothing. Well put, Amanda K, well put. Make sure to check out the raving event reviews here, and for the full spread of photos, check out Yelp's Flickr. Thanks to Brea Photography for their always stellar pics, too!

Until the next time and still laughing at this photo,

Elite Event: Pacific Asia Museum

What's one way to spend a Tuesday night? How about under the stars at one of Pasadena's most intimate cultural institutions! Pacific Asia Museum's exhibits entertained and educated guests, and their courtyard proved a glorious space for a post-scavenger hunt cocktail reception!

PicMonkey Collage
Elites and their plus ones were treated to a scavenger hunt of various artifacts situated in different parts of PAM that helped them navigate the exhibits and explore the many regions and cultures celebrated within the walls of the museum. After they finished, they turned in their findings for a spin at PAM's prize wheel for treats, discounts to future Fusion Fridays events, and postcards. The courtyard beamed with elated guests gushing over the koi pond, Yelp schwag, nibbles and drinks. It didn't hurt that Dart DJs lit up the evening with a soundtrack so perfect for the event, it had people Shazaming the heck out of their phones and shoulder swaying all night long.

PicMonkey Collage1
Speaking of nibbles and drinks, KRAVE Jerky had a delectable spread of their beef, pork, and turkey samples boasting flavors like Basil Citrus, Black Cherry Barbecue and Grilled Sweet Teriyaki jerky, Tarte Asian Yogurt brought the unique palate pleasers as well, in the form of healthy-for-you Mango & Coconut and Green Tea & Honey yogurts. Flour + Tea satisfied sweet mongers with a spread of mochi buns (taro and sweet bean) and other treats, and Qdoba filled stomachs with their naked burritos, in addition to hyping up their booth with a little Qdoba pong for chances at coupons for free entrees. Libations were at the ready thanks to Firestone Beer's selection of Union Jack, Pale 31, and DBA, while CalNaturale's Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon won over the oenophiles of the group!

PicMonkey Collage3
TapSnap offered a twist on the photo booth fun, with choreographed shots that could then be caricatured with animated accessories and Debra Morrison caught all the candidness of the evening. TapSnap shots here and Debra's photos live on in our hearts and on the Yelp LA Flickr page. And as always, you can read the reviews on Yelp right here.

Madison Elites Get All Northwoodsy @ Avenue Bar

Let's get one thing straight... Madison is full of fantastic, forward-thinking foodies, trendsetters and creative-types. That said, WE LOVE CHEESE CURDS! (And beer and brats and reubens and fish fry and bread pudding and hunting and fishing and fur and...) This month Elites gathered at Avenue Bar for Yelp's Flannel Fling, a celebration of all the Northwoods cliches we hold near and dear to our hearts!

Chef McKee and his team prepared a wonderful assortment of Wisco favorites including reubens, crab cakes, beef crostini, cheese curds and burgers with bacon jam... BACON JAM! And for dessert; bread pudding, red velvet cupcakes and boozy ice cream treats! Fungus had Shruti W wailing, "Portabella mushrooms have a special place in my heart, so it's no surprise that I loved that burger." Maybe it'll make it onto the menu soon...? (Hint, hint!)

    2 3 4

Flannel foodies did more than eat though, Erin C cautions, "Let's not forget that seasonal Belgian IPA "Bedlam". I am a low volume drinker so I get picky with beer, but I am slowly becoming a loyal Ale Asylum fan. Also, the best Old Fashioned I've had in a minute - I won't be shy ordering another one next time." Cheers!

        5               6

Huge... HUGE thanks to Joey and Talish for being such wonderful hosts and to their entire team for such an amazing evening. The group consensus: The Avenue staff is some of the best in the 608... inviting, warm and hard working. Thanks to Hathaway, everyone's favorite Brewbassador, for the Ale Asylum sips and to The Avenue Strollers who provided a truly Wisconsin soundtrack for the night. And thanks to Jen Dederich who was back at it again capturing crave worthy food shots and some hilarious candids too!

Mangia (or, Yelp Miami’s Tuscan Golden Feast)!

Posted by Johnny Todd

After five years of marriage, one might expect something wooden from his/her spouse (don’t look at us; dems the rules). So... a tree? Not fun. After five years of being a member of the Yelp Miami Elite Squad, one might expect a night of Tuscan food and wine delights the likes of which people will talk about for ages. Brickell rising star Toscana Divino hosted Yelp’s Golden Dinner and the lives (and bellies) of the attendees would never be the same.

8692547255_ef5762ffd6_b 8692551017_e274af691b_b 8693708332_c4bf0577e4_b 8693738108_26eef8b683_b

Golden anniversaries are meant to be big. Huge. And, that’s exactly the way this golden dinner began. After being seated at assigned seats with name cards and gifts, Elites were treated to Zonin Prosecco which paired beautifully with the first course of Tagliere (bread board; served family-style): Salame Finocchiona, Prosciutto di Parma, Mortadella, Pecorino Toscano, Mozzarella di Bufala, and Tuscan Olives. Stunned Elites had little time to recover as they then experienced pours of Rocca di Montemassi Vermentino Toscana and Corte alla Flora Brunello Di Montalcino to accompany the sent-from-heaven Maccheroni Sugo Toscano (Fresh Maccheroni, Tuscan Beef Ragu, and "Strascicata Vecchia Maniera") & Tortelli Di Ricotta (Fresh Tortelli Ricotta Cheese & Spinach, Brown Butter & Sage).

All of this was in preparation for Chef Julian Baker's crowning jewels: entrees. Choosing from Pollo Arrosto (Roasted "Bell & Evans" all Natural Chicken Boneless Breast, Potato Puree, Roasted Mushrooms, and Balsamic Chicken Sauce); Tagliata Di Manzo (Roasted Loin Steak, Garlic & Rosemary, Celery Root & Olive Oil Emulsion, Organic Watercress, & Baby Radish); Porchetta (Crispy Pork Belly, Lavender Garlic Cream Swiss Chard, Apple, and Pork Jus); Tonno (Grilled Tuna Loin, Organic Greens & Bean Salad Lemon, & Balsamic Vinegar); Pesce Spada (Olive Oil Poached & Grilled Swordfish Loin, Tomato & Sage Braised White Beans); and Branzino All'Isolana (Baked Sea Bass Filet, Organic Tomatoes, "Taggiasche" Olives, Potato, Basil, and Olive Oil), Elites gasped, oohed and ahhed, before cutting into cuisine that blends the very best of traditional Tuscan cooking with the modern global flavor profiles.

Owners Mauro Bortignon and Tommaso Morelato entertained guests as the dessert course (including semifreddo, tiramisu, chocolate tart, and espresso amongst others) capped a perfectly golden evening. Missed out on the five-year fun? Brilliant photographer Gerardo Iglesias took photos you can see here. Ecstatic Elites penned their impressions here. Five years goes by quickly when writing reviews of the best the Magic City has to offer. It only makes sense to commemorate those five years with a meal that was five years in the making. Molto yummy!

Yelp's Grown Up Pizza Party @ Strada 241

Posted by Evelyn W

This certainly wasn't an adolescent 'za affair!

Thanks to our swell friends at Strada 241, the hardest working chefs in Toronto were feeding us saucy goodness all night long. Meena A fell in love the Strada style: "that thin crust, freshly-made, genuine Italian, simple-- no unnameable ingredients taste." Oh, we'll be back.

The place was jam-packed with lovely Toronto Elites and was hot hot hot. Thank goodness we had two types of brews from Krombacher to cool us off. Gary S fell in love with their dark proclaiming: "it was awesome, chocolate coffee I believe? I'll definitely be ordering it in the future."

Finally, thanks to Elaine K, Yelper Extraordinaire, for taking the pictures and making our mugs look five stars.

It was a real slice, Elites!

Yelp Philly's Dinner Party at Prime Stache

Posted by Michelle C

Last week, Prime Stache invited Yelp Philly Elites to be the very first to check out their new restaurant, which officially opens for business tonight. Yelp's Dinner Party was totally different from our typical events because it was a sit-down dinner featuring full-sized plates from the menu, and an assortment of specialty cocktails, beer and wine. Plus, the lucky Elites who attended this event were also the very first to get their hands on our new Yelp Elite socks!

YEE 4:24:13 Collage 1

Yelpers were seated together in the order they arrived, so introductions and new friends were quickly made. And then it was go time! Drink orders were placed and the food started pouring out of the kitchen. A light but very flavorful tomato and onion salad kicked things off and, from then on, "the food kept coming," according to Allison B. Her favorites of the evening? "The rock shrimp, meatloaf, salmon and apple pie. Put salted caramel on anything and I'll eat it."

YEE 4:24:13 Collage 2

Yelp's Dinner Party was David P's very first YEE, and he had nothing but positive things to say: "All in all, I really enjoyed to finally be in the company of other Yelpers. I'm a guy who loves community and the Philly Yelp community is something many should aspire to be a part of. Shout outs to everyone I met and mingled with..."

Huge thanks to Brent Celek, co-owner of Prime Stache, plus everyone on staff that night, from the front of the house to the back. This was truly an evening to remember. Still not satisfied? Gobble up more details on Talk, read the reviews from the event, and check out the photos!

Until next time,

Brooklyn Macs It Out

Posted by peter d.

What do you know about delicious mac & cheese? The best Brooklyn yelpers know plenty, because on Saturday afternoon they snacked on some of the best in the borough at The Elbow Room.

This brand-new nosherie in the Barclays Center welcomed in the Yelp Elite to show off some of their signature macs. With the classic mac, the crowd-pleasing brats & beer, the magnificent mushroom, the unbelievably flavorful vegan option (jalopenos FTW), the new Jamaican jerk and more, there wasn't a bad one in the bunch. Luis, the chef behind these rockin' recipes was in the house, and him, Shandie and Dillon killed it.

While there wasn't any booze on hand at the Barclays, Rony M reported that "sober socializing is just as satisfying, especially when you add Nawgan drinks into the mix." This alertness beverage, specially formulated to sharpen focus and boost concentration made "for some interesting conversations that he'll actually remember."

A huge thanks to Luis and the rest of the Elbow Room staff for welcoming us in with open arms! Stay tuned for more updates, photos and other cheesey fun. Until next time...

Yelp's Relax and Rejuvenate Elite Event @ Spa Niva

Posted by Bella

Tucson's latest event proves that Yelp isn't just about the food! Lady Elites and their guests gathered for Yelp's Relax and Revujenate event at Spa Niva for an evening packed with pampering. Spa Niva in partnership with Reveal Hair Salon and Jasper Restaurant & Cafe rolled out the red carpet for a most relaxing experience! This group of ladies left feeling like brand new Yelpers after a series of mini spa treatments.

Collage 1

Prepped to be pampered, guests were treated to a series of complimentary mini spa treatments ranging from hair styling, to manicures, massage, hand microdermabrasion, eye brow waxing, skin analysis and botox consultations. Yelpers were given the option to pick three treatments, but the crew at Spa Niva was so generous that they extended the event time to make sure everyone got to try every station! Talk about royal treatment! Additionally, Yelpers who opted for a full service microdermabrasion or botox treatment received special discounts for the night and all products for were sold at 20% off.

Collage 2

"What an amazing event for us Elite girls. Spa Niva was nothing short of fabulous. Staff members were extremely welcoming and giving of their time and even though there were A LOT of us there, they took the time to give each person individualized attention and service" yelps Kathy N. While Shauna Q "was blown away by how well it was organized and how many different services were offered! Blown Away." But the highlight of the her night was the massage – "After carrying kids all day, every day, that massage made my week." And Lauren T is wild about about Reveal Hair salon: "I got some fun hair chalk but would be interested in trying a hair cut there sometime soon!"

 Collage 4

Between hair consultations and mini-treatments, guests sipped on sparkling wine, snacked on coconut cake bites from Jasper Restaurant and made new friendships over some real quality girl time. The "coconut cake balls from Jasper were delish, and a perfect compliment to a spa evening. I'll definitely be making a visit to the restaurant soon!" quips Sunny L

 Collage 3

Yelpers engaged in a friendly Spavenger Photo hunt to win some fabulous prizes. 7 lucky Yelpers went home with prizes donated from Spa Niva, Reveal Hair and Jasper Restaurant: A microdermabrasion treatment valued at $125, Series of B12 shots, two gift cards valued at $25 each, two gift baskets packed with hair products from Reveal Hair and a gift card from Jasper Cafe. And everyone went home with a gift bag filled with a selection of fine beauty product samples offered at Spa Niva, plus a $10 gift certificate from Spa Niva, products from Reveal Hair Salon and some yelpy swag! Can we say, spac-tacular!?

   Collage 5

We can't thank the gracious team at Spa Niva enough for hosting this event just for us! Owner, Renee Hobeich was onsite all evening mingling with the yelpers, Melissa Walker, Spa Operations Director made sure every guest was pampered and Hillary Marcus, Spa Niva Foothills Manager was there every step of the way with a helping hand! Yelper, Melissa K sums it up just right: "I think the biggest thing I will take away from this event was the friendly staff, they were helpful and accommodating and they definitely won my loyalty. I am looking forward to being a customer."

The dynamic duo Monika and Kealy from Reveal Hair Salon took extra care of our ladies with their one-on-one consults and styling! And while this was our first non-food event, we couldn't help but include just a little! Thank you to Jasper Restaurant for delighting us all evening with your famous coconut cake dessert!

The transformations were so mah-velous that we had Elizabeth Miller of Ann Bradford Photography as our resident paparazzo. Read more about our relaxing evening in the rejuvenating reviews and if you were there share 'em here. And peep glamour shots here!

Until next time dahlings!

It's A Guac-Off. Yelp Boston Had A Guac-Off.

Posted by Damien S

Maybe your salmon, dill and potato guac is better than his great-grandma Josephina's traditional (tomato-less) and silky smooth recipe. Maybe it ain't. There's only one way to find out:

Yelp Boston's First Annual Guac-Off!

Hosted at The Painted Burro, twelve concepts were hand-selected from more than 50 entries to compete, and the guac chefs were given 24 avocados to execute their recipes for a panel of expert judges – Somerville Alderman Rebekah Gewirtz, The Burro's executive chef Danny Bua and yours truly, Yelp Boston Community Manager, Damien S, as well as the love of 120+ avo-avid attendees.

From Taza Chocolate Chipotle kissed dips to a Mole Guac: Deconstructed, the submitted dips dazzled judges and Yelpers alike, the former scoring points for Creativity, Flavor and Ay Carumba! factor and the latter selecting their favorite with a single vote. When the chip dust settled, The People's Choice scored a $100 gift certificate for The Burro, while the judges' winning recipe smasher gets featured on The Painted Burro's menu (with all proceeds benefiting onefundboston.org), a family size molcajete (mortar & pestle) and a year's worth of anytime reservations!

Congrats to the following Yelpers who competed: Jason B, Lu B, Sally B, Dan C, Elliot G, Gregory G, Hemanth G, Rana H (and Jess!), Jennifer M, Julie N and Lisa S.

And to the winners:
Rana & Jess - Keep Calm & Bac On! (People's Choice)
Dan C - Ethiopian Guac on Injera Chips (The Inflatable Cactus Runner-Up)
Hemanth G - GundaMole (Top Guac; Judge's Pick)

Burro Owner Joe Cassinelli snapped hot tamale pics of the event - tag them away on Facebook! And if you tasted your way through an avocado jungle, share your experience here. Muchos gracias to the crew at The Painted Burro, all the contestants and to those of you who celebrated a new tradition. Here's looking to 2014!

It's a Pirate's Life for Yelp [OTP!]

Posted by HeidiP

Avast ye! Yelp OTP had all hands on deck for our April elite event at Red Sky Tapas on April 22nd. Landlubbers and sea dogs alike with their shark bait mates [+1s] gathered for grog and grub, piratey props and pics and a battle for booty! The result was proof that it's definitely a pirate's life for Yelp!

Did Yelpers try to make us walk the plank for having them dress up on a Monday after work?

They treasured the opportunity. Han L grabbed the pirate costume from her closet, literally! "How did you know I love spending my Mondays in pirate attire?" Tamera L's guest was well-received! "Although, I love getting creative and everything about costumes, I never know just how many others will take part. It's either everyone is looking at me wondering why I have a bird on my shoulder or everyone's looking at me wondering why they don't have a bird on their shoulder."

Red sky1

Lobster + corn dip with tortillas, calamari - regular and buffalo style – pizza, egg rolls and blackened Ahi Tuna were matched with cocktails from each of the seven seas made with Ye Ol' Grog! Tanya C appreciates some good pirate booze, "Red Sky had some great (FREE!!!) pirate themed drinks on the list of options and they were strong enough to make even the meanest, biggest pirate a bit tipsy."

Red sky

Joy H of Leah and Mark & Co womanned our photobooth and Stephen M scoured the land for candid photographs the likes of which have never been seen! ITP Elite Kristin B declares "Y'all, I have a feeling my budget is about to get blown to bits. If OTP keeps having parties this good, I'm just going to have to keep overspending on gas for my car each month to get to them!" Even Red Sky staff got in on the fun!

Red sky2

Yelpirates scrapped for the secret treasure of dread pirate One Eyed Yelpie by posting their most piratey selfies and group pics to the event page. Thanks again to Red Sky Tapas for hosting an awesome evening. Stephanie M gives props, "The staff was really helpful and did a great job. Thank You!"

Yelp Gets Lei'd at Lucy's Retired Surfer Bar

Posted by kelly stocker

Cold weather couldn't keep Austin yelpers down! Despite the chill outside, yelpers donned their tropical Screen Shot 2013-05-01 at 1.26.21 PM best to get lei'd at Lucy's Retired Surfers Bar. Tasha B "hula'd and played a ukelele*. You probably missed it because you drank too much Malibu. I made new friends, plans for YSB started taking shape with rides and rooms. Cold weather can't keep a good Yelper down. Not when we have knee socks!"

Huge thanks to Malibu rum and Kona Brewing. The stellar bartenders at Lucy's made sure we had one in each hand at all times and servers laden with huge trays of shrimp and wings appeared at your elbow every 5 minutes to offer tasty morsels. Pim S and her hubs "love Kona beer and have been to the Kona Pub in Honolulu, so being able to have Big Wave flowing all night was such a treat. And if those two dishes are an indication of the new tastings menu, I can't wait to try the rest."

Screen Shot 2013-05-01 at 1.27.13 PMTanya Winch and the Dirty Mercy provided musical stylings that kept us dancing, singing along and yes, hula hooping all night. Our pink haired photography maven Jennifer Byers took some great shots of all of the smiling faces. Check them out on our FlickrLucy's is a fabulous place for parties and they are certainly the hostess with the mostest. If you haven't checked out the reviews yet (they're hilarious), here's that listing: Yelp Gets Lei'd. Screen Shot 2013-05-01 at 4.53.31 PM

Khiem M gives us the Reader's Digest version: "Beautiful people.
Beautiful place.Cool sounds. Awesome bites. Plenty of liquid flowing. Wild Wednesdays got Lei'd this week. Thanks to Malibu and Kona Brew for the beverages. Thanks for Lucy for hosting. And thanks to the bar back that topped our drinks off with an extra helping of alcohol."

Impreza zrób-to-sam pizza @ I Love Pizza

Posted by Filip

Korzystając z gościnności Przemka i Mateusza z I Love Pizza, Yelperzy wpadli z własnym alkoholem, by upiec własną pizzę.

Do następnego! ;)

Pizza (13)

Filip G., Community Manager, Yelp Kraków

The second Yelp Krakow party happened on the Friday right before the long May weekend. A very good reason to party, no? Thanks to the hospitality of Przemek and Mateusz from I Love Pizza, the Yelpers dropped by with their own alcohol to make their own pizza.

We started with some apperitifs and appetizers - popcorn chicken, nachos and chicken wings. After we had a chance to catch up, it was time to put on our chef hats and start the ovens.

Yelpers came up with a wide variety of pizzas: from the vegetarian option to the anti-vegetarian option, hardly able to support the weight of meat, to the deadly, spicy option with hot sauce, Chilli and Jalepeno peppers.

So how was it? Warm, delicious, and pre-long weekendish. But don't take my word for it. The pictures are here and here and read what Yelpers had to say about it. Until next time!

Yelps Eisteemixsession im Teenorissimo

Posted by Andreas R

Andreas R

When we were planning this event, it was still ice cold in Vienna. Nevertheless, we decided to welcome spring with this event at the tea store Teenorissimo in Vienna´s beatiful 13th district - and the weather did not let us down. We were welcomed with a glas of "Bubble-Ice-Tea", that tasted so great and refreshing that several refills had to be done. After that, the main program of the event started and everyone could mix together several ingredients to create the perfect sommer cocktail consisting of various iced teas, syrups and even ice cream. The Yelpers are a creative bunch and several outstanding drinks were created - the best of them will even make it on the official Teenorissimo menu. Nobody had to leave hungry, as Sandy, the owner, had prepared homemade strudel with various fillings from meat to different veggies.

Don´t miss out on the pictures from the event and read what the Yelpers had to say.

Yelp Evento Elite Aperidolce da Dolce Lab

Posted by Kristina

On Wednesday night we had the sweetest event ever! Taylo R was so happy to discover Dolce Lab, her description of the evening is flattering: "The event was perfect from the start: lots of prosecco and sweet wine, followed by a 'how to' frosting lesson and the best part, frosting our own YELPcakes! and of course sampling it all afterwards".

Collage dl 5
After the event "Aperidolce" is Kim S's new favorite word. She declares that "wine, demonstration, contest, cupcakes & carrot cake, then tea...pretty sure this event couldn't handle anymore, it was the perfect combination".

Collage dl 6

After a great cake design lesson and then competition, we got to taste a carrot cake and yummy cupcakes, with teas from Tealicious. During the competition we had to do our best to design a mini burst on a cupcake, works of art where made by the very talented and artistic Florentine Elites!

Collage DL 7

A big thank you to Dolce Lab and to all the fantastic Yelpers! You can see more photos here, read all of the reviews here and read the talk thread about the event here!

First Dibs on Patxi's Pizza in Livermore!

Posted by Nique!

Just one day before their doors flew open to the pizza-lovin' public, Patxi's Pizza invited 100 East Bay Elites to their newest location in Livermore for a very exclusive preview dinner. A seemingly unlimited supply of their renowned deep dish pies emerged steaming hot from the kitchen, while antipasto platters, a self-serve salad bar and local beer and wine were offered thorughout the night, leaving a "nice, fuzzy, warm spot" for Patxi's in Stephanie M's heart.  Patxicollage1

Besides the crispy, crusty, deep dish pizzas Patxi's is locally beloved for, they also showcased their thin crust varieties like the Bianco Verde ricotta-pesto-garlic combo, and the Picante: spicy salami, hot coppa, mozzarella, and chopped pepperoncini. Petra S loved the "blend of the cured meats which almost reminds you of an Italian deli sandwich!" Patxicollage3

In between cheesy bites, Elites grazed on "arugula salad with a light vinaigrette and thin shavings of parmesan - the simplest and most perfect salad after the Cesar," which Stephanie M tips, "has the most brilliant dressing by far. I'm a Cesar salad fanatic and this dressing was legit."

Bison Brewing, and East Bay favorite, provided the perfect pizza pairing with four of thier organic beers: Hop Cuvee, Gingerbread Porter, Chocolate Stout, and Honey Basil. "I don't order beer with my food too often," admits John B, "but when I see Bison Chocolate Stout on the menu, I can never pass it up." Amber S was smitten with the "Honey Basil and Gingerbread, so smooth and refreshing." Livermore Zinfandel and Chardonnay were also poured, thanks to Wente Wines. "Nothing can go wrong with a pizza and wine night," wise words from Sally C. Patxicollage2

This Elite Event left a very good taste in everyone's literal & proverbial mouths. "I have a feeling the Livermore location is going to be very successful," Eugene L predicts. "Mr Patxi has the winning formula when it comes to pizza"...and hospitality!

North County San Diego Elites Spring Into Souplantation

Posted by Trish

With their headquarters locally here in SD, Souplantation is striving to always connect with its loyal locals and support the regional community. NCSD Elite's were thrilled at the invite to check out the newly rejuvenated Carmel Valley flagship location, there is no other SP like it anywhere! Read on! Fresh, crisp details from "Yelp's Spring Rejuvenation Dinner At Souplantation" are hot off the presses.... kind of like those SP blueberry muffins we all love!

Elite's were greeted at the front door to kick off the night with the Ben & Jerry's West food truck. We tweeted, they showed up! Ice cream in their bellies, name-tags set, the doors opened promptly at 7 and the squad was oh so ready to explore the farmer's market-style remodel. The new look brought the wholesome freshness of its food to the forefront. There is no other location with the looks of this new locally focused one.

This one was a full meal deal and included the buffet, beverages, AND a tray passed selection of new menu items like freshly grilled cage-free and antibiotic-free chicken skewers, all-natural, antibiotic and hormone-free, Niman Ranch steak skewers, sustainably farmed, mozzarella and tomato skewers and even some decadent baked goods like white chocolate chip with macadamia nut, chocolate and Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, and red velvet cupcakes. They locally source from regional farmers and serve California grown produce, and this new Spring look? Elite's give it 5 stars!

Dave and his awesome crew from Snappy McGee PhotoBooth were on hand to capture the fresh forward motion. Elite's fully fed and happy with the healthy choices (and sober as can be, no alcohol was served at this event) were immortalized with his speedy prints and fun props!

In NCSD we always makes sure there's bells and whistles, but in this case? We went with harmonicas and acoustic guitar! The dazzling duo of musicians making the vibe complete was none other than Ace and Karl (Also of Red Lotus Revue) They're new on the scene! Find em, follow em, and hopefully you'll see them playing at a venue near you!

Many thanks to Allen and his staff at Souplantation, and to the Elite's for their love of this locally based business and new look venture. Check out all the 5 star reviews, the photos on Flicker by Jonathan Bagalso Photography, like us on FB, and follow us on Twitter to get all the hot regional info.

Yelpers Get Karaoked Away at Lucky Voice

Posted by Alex Shebar

London Yelpers are a passionate group, never more so than when they sing their heart out.

Yes, it was a night of great food and drinks and terrible singing at Yelp Gets Karaoked Away at Lucky Voice.

This gem of a karaoke bar was ready to go as yelpers walked through the door. A giant long brightly-lit bar treated everyone to a nice cold mojito and beer to get them ready for the awkward singing ahead.

“The night was amazing! I brought two Yelp noobs and they had a great time! The Asahi was perfect after coming in from the nice hot sunny day outside and the mojito was really nice and refreshing,” Amy S declared. Although she does have one more add on: “But let me apologise to everyone in room 5 who had to listen to me singing all night and had to see my gosh awful air guitar/squiggle dance.” Its ok, we’ll pretend we didn’t see a thing.

The night was made all the better by the delicious pizza that kept streaming out into the main room, made fresh right there by Lucky Voice. “I hovered over the freshly made pizzas. There was quite a selection of different to eat such as plain cheese, pepperoni, a spicy beef one, some chicken with veggies.” Connie M listed out. “Anyway, after pigging out, we all went to sing!”

It was, of course, the singing that headlined the evening. Five purple glowing private karaoke rooms were laid out for the yelpers harmonic pleasure, each filled with thousands of songs, two microphones, flashing lights and boxes full of props to really make it a show.

“Last night was some of the best fun I've had with a mic in ages though,” Tristan J sang out. “Was it because we had longer than 2 hours to sing (we were the eager beavers who went into the room unprompted minutes after we'd arrived)? Was it because some of the other rooms were filled with yelpers? Was it the sunshine?” We say yes to all of the above, Tristan!

When the end time hit, people still hadn’t sung their final note, so the bar let us stay until 11pm, singing until they were horse. Jhenn S puts it best as she recounts her karaoke adventures:

“I get a little... karaoke crazy. But with Yelpers so upbeat and decent song choices available, no depressing songs were sung. Hurray! Nothing like bonding with new friends while singing. Dancing and fist pumping and various other callisthenics were had in the rooms, especially after Alex secured a room until 11 instead of 9. Whatta baller.”

The London Index even came by to snap a few shots and document the night! And we loved that they captured all our awkwardness:

It was truly a fantastic time (and boy can some London Yelpers sing!) But don’t just take our word for it. But don’t just take our word for it. You can read all the reviews right here as well as check out all the pics by Jason Ellis on the Official Yelp Flickr Page.

Until next song,

Yelp Elites Help Launch Silicon Valley Restaurant Week!

Posted by Abby Schwarz

Are your tummies ready? 'Cause Silicon Valley Spring Restaurant Week starts today (April 24-May 1). And since it's no secret that Yelpers are foodie fans, it only made sense that the South Bay Elite Squad helped kick off this week of prix-fixe menus at a local favorite, California Cafe - Los Gatos

SVRW Collage 1

"SV restaurant week is my favorite week of the year! When they announced there will be TWO this year (seasonal: spring and fall), I almost died of happiness," squealed Kailey O. About 60+ Yelpers nodded their heads in agreement and made it out to Los Gatos on a sunny Wednesday afternoon to enjoy all sorts of wonderful appetizers, including crab cakes, stuffed mushrooms, shrimp cocktail and gourmet sliders. Plus, "the mango-pineapple-basil sangria was a'flowin'," noted Jen O. "Servers very attentively fetched refills for us and were all around just fun, getting us in the spirit of SV Restaurant Week."

SVRW Collage 2

Also on-hand were a few #SVRW organizers, mixing and mingling with the crowd. They were also there to say "thanks" for being so supportive of this week-long promotion and to encourage Yelpers to provide feedback about the restaurants they visit. And if there was any restaurant missing off the lineup, encourage them to participate next year!

SVRW collage 3

"Wow! What an awesome patio venue for an awesome warm day, exclaimed Janet O. I've always liked this restaurant and spent many a work party here. Free flowing sangria for all Elitess with a very talented bartender :) The spread was very awesome. My favorite was the sliders. The crab cake and mushroom was very good. There were cheese plates and fruit plates and shrimp cocktail. This venue brought back many fun memories! Thank you California Cafe - Los Gatos and Andre (GM) for letting Yelpers enjoy your hospitality!"

Yelp Enters The Happy Palace!

Posted by Tresna

What does Chinese food, Cider and Connect Four have in common? Not much really... but who says that Elite Events have to make sense! Last night we got a group of Elite Yelpers together for a night of fun at Happy Palace - a relative new commer to the Melbourne bar and dining scene offering late night eats, crazy cocktail combos and an ambiance that is reminiscent of Aussie Chinese restaurants of the 1980's. We love it.

Happy Palace welcomed us with delicious cocktails and rounds of dumplings, egg rolls and duck filled lettucs cups. The crowd favourite though was clearly the prawn toasts which went down a treat with the cider provided by Golden Axe.

There were Chinese fans, fake scorpion tattoos (in honour of the "pet" scorpions that Happy Palace has in their glass bar) and Yelpers went head to head in rounds of Connect Four. It was at times fierce, but eventually after a grand final of "best of three" Terrence L was defeated by the formidable Jessica G. The grand prize? A solar powered Happy Cat!

Uber once again got Yelpers home in style - for free! Thanks guys!

Yelp Craves-A-Rave @ KC Crave

Posted by Katie C

Boom tiss. Boom boom tiss tiss. That’s sound of a rave if you didn’t know! Last night 60+ yelpers ascended on KC Crave Restaurant, glow sticks in hand, for an evening laced with snacks, spirits, and insatiable beats! “Great evening! The lights, the folks, the cucumber infused martinis, the glowsticks, the food, Monday night never looked so fly!” assures Rebecca D of Yelp Craves-A-Rave Elite Event. “The lowlight of the night was obviously the fact that this will be our last event with CM Katie C. TEAR!!!!!! But what better way to go out than with a bang!”

“The food was executed really well,” she continues. “A favorite of mine was the French toast served with a dollop of creme fraiche (I think) and fresh berries! Delish! The chef even managed to put a mint leaf on each little plate as well, love it!”

“The staff at KC Crave was on point, every time I turned around it was like drink, salmon, turkey, another drink, crab, lamb, drink, dessert!” raves Nate M. “I tried the Coconut Sangria (Chardonnay mixed with Fresh Fruit, Coconut Water, and a touch of Coconut Milk). I love Coconut, so this was an easy choice! Ruby A. and I loved this drink, it's so different and magically delicious...you can't find this anywhere...I would def come back to KC for it!”

“I liked the real red skinned potatoes with wasabi and cream. Hand mashed to perfection,” approves brand-new Elite Mark B, who admits being mostly wowed by the fun-loving bartenders and attentive management. “We enjoyed talking the the GM and Culinary Adviser along with the Chef. Thank you to Crave, Katie, and Yelp for a great night. See ya soon!”

Yelp MKE's Beer Goggle Masquerade!

Posted by Rachel Fell

Brews, burgers, bites, buds and... beer goggles?

No doubt! Yelp's Beer Goggle Masquerade at Miller Time Pub & Grill in the heart of downtown MKE made for a super-goofy, wicked-fun elite-tastic party this past Wednesday night. Elites and their guests mixed and mingled over complimentary beers – MTP&G boasts a great craft brew selection on tap! – and a stellar burger bar, which featured fixins galore. (With over 20 unique burgers on their menu, Miller Time let yelpers choose their own adventure with toppings such as bleu cheese, giardinaria, and oh-so-much more. And the hot wings... those wings, you guys!)

After playing catch-up with friends new and old, it was onto the business portion of the evening... beer-goggle making, "Iron Chef"-style! Nine teams of 5-6 Yelpers had five minutes to craft up to three pairs of beer goggles, and the results? Pretty dang hilarious; we had monocoles, we had multiple mustaches, we had turkey goggles and super-fab feather laden creations... the list goes on. (See below, y'all!)

'Twas a super good time featuring tons of new and old faces alike. (So glad to bring new Yelpers into the elite community here in Milwaukee!) Congrats go out to the winners, Team Nine Lives and to runners-up Team Most Awesome and The One-Eyed Monsters for their stellar efforts. In fact, everyone's goggles were hilarious and I had such a good time watching you guys get uber-creative together. And a huge thanks to folks for uploading tons of hilarious photos to the event listing, too... winner Tony K and runner-up Christian V took home the photo contest prizes (and deservedly so).

Check all the photos here and the reviews here!

See you all for that big ol' Gatsby Bash in May... and until then, SYOY!

Elites Kick-Off Walnut Creek Restaurant Week 2013!

Posted by Nique!

Indulging in prix fixe meals for as little as $10 is a no-brainer for Yelpers in the East Bay. And with so many Walnut Creek Restaurant Week deals to choose from, a little sampling from Lark Creek, Havana, Massimo, Maria Maria, Va de Vi, and Ruth's Chris Steakhouse came in handy at Sunday's kick-off party.

200 Yelpers filled Ruth's Chris Steak House to kick-off a delicious week of Walnut Creek Restaurant Week menus, and taste bites from a few of the Creek's star chefs. Va de Vi served dainty spoonfuls of ahi tuna tartar "with a little touch of lemon zest, which added great citrus flavor," notes Liv A. Havana served up skirt steak with chimichuri and chicken skewers with mango salsa, while Massimo Ristorante dazzled guests with homemade gnocchi in a mushroom sauce, "so decadent, rich and earthy" Cassandra E will be enjoying a full portion during restaurant week. Wcrwcollage2

There was no shortage of comfort food, thanks to the beef chimichangas from Maria Maria, and meaty sliders from Ruth's Chris. "These sliders looked regular, but oh boy were they far from it," tips Alice H. "The garlic flavor cooked into the beef patties is what made these sliders exceptional."

But the ultimate indulgence could be found at Lark Creek's tasting station where mini cups of butterscotch pudding with whipped cream and shortbread elicited 'oohs' and 'aahs' from Yelpers like Wendy H, who adds "Your life is not complete without trying this dessert." Wcrwcollage3With stiff Belvedere vodka martinis and lush wines from Wine Sisterhood in hand, this Elite group had cause to celebrate, leaving only one thought in Anjelica C's mind: "We will definetly be hitting up Restaurant Week!"

@ Moby Dick

Posted by Lolo R.

"The breeze fair aft, all sails on high, ten guns on each side mounted seen, she does not cut the sea but fly..." the Yeper Party brigantine! More than two hundred Yelpers gathered last Sunday on Moby Dick Club to celebrate one of the most interesting events this spring: Madrid first Yelper Party, the Love Boat!

Yelperparty4As Óscar Hmany Yelpers noticed "the huge amount of trunks, suitcases and various stuff to enjoy the summer" that became our sweet photocall, thanks to Marantikk. Speaking of which, it was as sweet as Sabores Ocultos cookies and BeSmoothie smoothies, two treats that Elena M and her guests enjoyed particularly. By his side Juan D will put some pressure on his workmates to buy Lise & Leti cookies for their upcoming birthdays. Anyway, he also loved the greek food by Jronia k Jronia!

Eugenio S was more inclined to the grape juice, so he let Crash Wines staff do all the talking. They explained their concept and the particularities of their wines. At the same time Rafael L tasted Adrede, one of the choices of Bodegabierta, while he also recommended the tapas featured by Los 3 CerditosJavi E came up with something really good from the event: he already has plans for the upcoming weeks! He will be visiting De Vinos for a tasting. But even though he really loves wine, he also enjoyed very much the cocktails provided by The Kraken Spiced Rum. One of the best assets of the party? Every passenger got home safe and sound thanks to MyTaxi!

Yelperparty7Do not forget to leave your impressions about the event here, take a look to the pictures and follow us on Facebook and Twitter. Do you want to be invited to events like this one? See if you have what it takes to be an Elite!

Yelp Fits The Bill

Posted by BrettNehls

Yelp Elite Events – delicious food, tasty drinks, cool Yelpers, and great local businesses. These events have it all, but this event was missing a very key ingredient... alcohol. *Record scratch* Whaaaa?

That's right, Yelp Fits The Bill at Fitlife Foods was the first Elite event in Tampa Bay without one drop of beer, wine, or liquor. So the night better have been really rad then, right? Well... it's time to testify, because there's a lot of gushing ahead! But first, if you like the photos you see below, here are some more! And how did those pictures turn out so gorgeously? That's because of we're the luckiest community on Yelp to have Gerardo Luna turn our memories into magic.

The evening began with Yelpers being greeted by the incredible and friendly staff at Fitlife. They walked the guests through what Fitlife offers in terms of the healthy meals and wellness coaching. Eventually we made our way to the brand new culinary center in the back, where food as we know it was changed forever... just ask Acelyn B. "Very cool setup where we were able to walk into the back kitchen and see the chefs preparing samples for us at different stations. The chefs were all friendly, ready to explain what they were cooking or just to strike up a nice conversation. It's one of those things where you can tell they love their job and are proud to be cooking for Fitlife." You won't get an argument out of Shauna E when it comes to the feedback of the night. "I like to cook a lot, but I can totally see how this concept would be beneficial for someone trying to cut processed food from their life, without being super handy in the kitchen. The prices seem no more, and usually less, than your typical fast food joint without the risk of heart disease or a bulging waistline." Well, normally the bulging waistline foods taste better, but Fitlife was able to change that perception.

So let's reminisce about that food, shall we? Get us started, Christina C? "In terms of the food, my favorites would have to be the chicken meatballs, the snickerdoodles, and the brownies. My fiance would not stop raving about the beef and the chili lime sauce. However, the snickerdoodles were like crack to me.  If I had a plate of them, I would not be able to stop eating." Want to continue this low-fat gravy train of compliments, Rachel H? "Every employee was sweet and accommodating, taking the time to explain in detail each ingredient and the process used to give each dish extra chutzpah with undetectable veggies. Plums in brownies, carrots in the cheese sauce, cauliflower in the spinach dip... I mean really, everything was excellent. I did try the carrot cake and it was phenomenal. Thank goodness they emphasize portion control or I would have eaten the whole tray. So good."

My jaw is still detached from the rest of my face, after learning that the mashed potatoes were made from cauliflower. The icing on the proverbial cake, were things that Rachel hit on – plums in the brownies and carrots in the cheese dip. Maybe I'm a simple mind... but these chefs are like scientists! I bet they could build a low-carb rocket ship if you gave them enough time. Not only are the people at Fitlife pure genius, but they poured their heart and soul into this event... as evidenced by the giant Yelp chalk-art on the wall as we walked in. Numerous employees in the company made the trip out to this location so that they could make sure that the night would go as smoothly as possible. There's nothing like working with a small business, that operates as efficiently as a giant corporation. So to the good folks of Fitlife, I thank you for doing it right.

Yelp Goes Green @ Grill & Vine!

Posted by Abby Schwarz

Grill & Vine collage

How appropriate that Yelp's South Bay-Peninsula Elite Squad have a Sunday afternoon event at Grill & Vine, right before Earth Day? 'Tis true! On Sunday, April 14 Yelp's Going Green @ Grill & Vine was a 5-star, Mother-Earth approved affair.

Having opened just a few months ago, Grill & Vine is located inside the Westin SFO in Millbrae. But just because this was hosted at a hotel restaurant/bar doesn't mean it's a quick snack designed for out of town guests! On the contrary, they offer modernized reinterpretations of the classic bar & grill designed in signature bistro-style. Casual-upscale, yet comfortable enough to make you feel welcome, guests may enjoy traditional favorites with a modern twist. Complementing Westin's core brand values, their menu supports wellness with simple, light, fresh foods while also focusing on locally sourced items from the Bay Area.

Green collage 2

Because this was an intimate, Elites-only event (no +1's this time around), there was a "get to know you" icebreaker activity ready for everyone who arrived. Fun facts were taken from each attendee's Yelp profile, written down on notecards and, according to Lyn L " It was our mission to find the person whose fact we had on our card. Super fun!"

Even if guests weren't playing the game, another thing that brought them together was the tasty spread provided by Grill & Vine, including flatbread pizzas, glazed wings, edamame with sea salt, housemade potato chips, assorted cheeses and marinated olives. "Not to mention the bottomless supply of wine," squealed Christine P. "My white zinfadel never ran dry because all the (amazing!) servers kept refilling it again and again."

"Props to Grill & Vine for a nice spread of light bites, said Maria S. "The cheese selection was high quality; the wings sticky finger licking good; the edamame, chips and flat bread selection was very flavorful." Plus, "staff were friendly and very accommodating. So nice that this is just a few freeway exits away from home/work, and so close to the airport for a bite to eat."

"Where better to end up on a blustery day than an Elite event filled with tasty food, comfortable chairs, and friendly peeps?" asked Tami S. "Grill & Vine provided a warm and welcoming, (and primarily green!), polished-but-still-casual setting for this party. The food was really enjoyable (that flatbread was gorgeous, and the wings had a lot of flavor to them), and we had a very generous selection of wines from which we could choose. I can totally see coming here after a nice walk along the bay front. A nice way to warm back up with a glass of wine in a comfy chair."

Green collage 3

Not only were Yelpers treated to all sorts of seasonal goodies at the party, but as the event was winding down they also got a reusable tote bag ful of Yelp schwag, including a sweet pair of Elite knee socks! *AND* for those who wanted to stick around and have dinner, there was a check-in offer for 50% off all food and bottles of wine at the restaurant. The Grill & Vine staff also passed around 20% off cards to come back another time and enjoy a full meal. Candice T "would definitely visit here again should I need a place to stop over in Millbrae and/or set as a meeting place for traveling friends."

Yelp Honolulu Goes Greek With Pizza And Sheets

Posted by Emi H

(Insert crowd chanting here: Toga! Toga! Toga!) Over 150+ Yelp Elites (and their lucky +1s) donned their finest togas and came out to Inferno's Wood Fire Pizza for Yelp Goes Greek. Like any epic frat party guests were greeted with Yelp schwag, Jell-O shots, and laurel wreath crowns to top off their sheets... errr we mean sophisticated togas. Red Solo cups, cheese balls, and high-fives were flying as Yelpers partied with old friends and new!

Yeeps sampled tasty treats from Inferno's such as white truffle oil and guava smoked pork pizza, mochiko chicken, and (as a special off-menu Yelp event treat) pistachio and cookies-n-cream gelato. Island Olive Oil also filled out yelpers' plates with offerings of balsamic vinegars and infused olive oils paired with a simple rustic dipping bread.

PVD Elite Behave Like Bacchus @ Grapes & Grains!

Posted by Hilary H

Providence Elites went a little off the beaten path and gathered for Yelp's Grape Expectations Elite Event last Thursday at Grapes and Grains – a Barrington bottle shop – where they enjoyed a little sipping, tasting, and and wine education. With The Cheese Plate, The Olive Tap, Federal Hill Pizza and Provender supplying their delectable goodies for us to nosh, Grapes and Grains hosted one delicious evening, indeed! G&g1
Grapes and Grains "is terrific. They have really interesting varietals – especially on the beer side." And while it's off William H's "typical beaten path, I'll definitely be making return visits!" Jennifer E "absolutely loves the layout of Grapes and Grains, with it's cozy feel and spectacular wine, beer and liquor selection." Sara H appreciated "the knowledgable and engaging staff, sharing their enthusiasm for the wines we were tasting."

"This event represented everything" Jaclyn P loves "about being Yelp Elite. Food, drinks, mingling, and the best part – getting to talk with local businesses about the very products they are passionate for. The station showcasing a spread from The Cheese Plate in Warren was wonderful – perfect pairings by the general manager who was very informed about his products." Serving up "piping-hot pizza" was Federal Hill Pizza. Their fresh, famous dough topped with "dehydrated goat cheese, mushrooms, prosciutto and a tangy sauce" was a perfect match for the "crispy, yet still chewy, crust." Sara H plans on "becoming a regular" at this Warren joint. G&g2
Victor K can see himself "going through a whole bottle" of The Olive Tap's creative oils. His "favorite has to be the jalapeno, which had a strong flavor without the spice, which was surprising" and very nice. "To end the night," Jennifer E "scooted in to the fancy reserve room where the lemon marscapone cake" from Provender was paired with a light, sweet muscato. "This cake is aaaammmazing – delicate, somewhat tart and went very well with the wine, especially when my friend gave me the idea to dip the cake in to the wine. Maybe a bit weird and unrefined, but it sure was delicious!" We won't judge you, Jen! G&g3
"This event gets an A+ for giving" Vilay S "a crash course on taste. It was a unique event that gave us an insiders' look on food, flavors, and pairings. The knowledgeable hosts gave us the lowdown on things like olive varieties, chemical structure of pizza dough, wine acidity... I'll have to revisit my trapper keeper to remember it all. Let's hope we'll all be on the Yelp Honor Roll." High scores all around, for sure!

A big thank you to Grapes and Grains for hosting, to all the wonderful vendors for supplything the delicious food, and to Jen Brister of Brister Photo for being there and capturing the magic – view the full set of photos here, and don't forget to check out the reviews of this event!

On a hot Friday spring night, 40 or so Montreal Yelp Elite travelled back in time to spend an evening in the 80s at Café 1880. "A moment suspended in time to chat about the best decade" was a joy for Hugo B and guests.

It’s not only Tim’s latte pour that impressed the Yelpers. Rawan K found "the cafe owner so humble and kind, it makes me want to go all the way there just to support him and his vision." Even Marjorie D who "is not a big fan of coffee liked their iced coffee!"

For Chris B, it’s his “sweet tooth that received some love thanks to the chocolate chip cookies and flaky pastry things from Sweet Lee's. To the gym I must now venture and sweat off some of those chocolate chip cookies. I've got my sweating to the 80's cassette cued up and ready to rock."

An 80s look can only be immortalized by a great photographer. A huge thank you to Maxim Carbonneau for making us look so sexy, even with the decade’s many fashion faux pas! You can see all the photos on Flickr and the full reviews on Yelp.

Yelpers cheese-fest at Black Door

Posted by Mikko

Viime Yelp tapahtumassa kaksi mobiiliystävällistä yhteisöä, Yelp & Playmysong, laittoivat hynttyyt yhteen tapaamalla Black Door brittipubissa.

Illan päätteeksi osallistujien kesken arvottiin muutamia lippuja Funky Elephant Festivaliin.

Pauliina O piti tapahtumaa varsin onnistuneena: ”Parhaat Yelp bileet tähän asti”! Iso kiitos tästä kuuluu ehdottomasti Playmysong-tiimille ja Black Doorin henkilökunnalle.

Tapahtuman kuvat löytyvät tästä Flickr-linkistä. Kiitos valokuvaajallemme Anna K:lle. Kaikki tapahtuma-arvostelut löytyvät Yelpistä.

Yelp Köln erstes Elite Event

Posted by Olli

And there it happened. The first ever Elite Event in Cologne. And what could be better than starting off with a great brunch? A delightful brunch and a private guided city tour! And so we did. With our greatest Elite Squad we startet at 20 Grad Café & Chocolaterie in the hotspot of Cologne. One of our Elite's guest Wolfgang J walked in and loved the "cozy athmosphere" right away.

Immediately the table was filled with the most delicious kinds of bred rolls, white Chocolate bread spread, meat and cheese choices. Most popular drink was the soya hot chocolate. Either white or full and dark chocolate. Our brand new born Elite Johnna P especially loved that "it isn't as sweet as a normal hot chocolate. It is perfect to drink! Delicious." Accompanied but fresh fruits, the breakfast left no room for more wishes.

Strenghtened from our brunch, we made our way to the guided city tour with Günther Klein from FF Events. In Cologne's dialect, he is also called "Jünther", so we not only had the chance to get great insight of famous places in Cologne, we also got a great lesson in terms of the local slang "Kölsch". And trust me, you really should come to Cologne to rub the nose of Tünnes und Schäl. Depending of the direction you rubb it, it can either mean luck in love or your wallet. And yes, that is how we in Cologne fight the financial crisis. And guess what, it works not only Jünther :D

Yelp's White Hot Night @ Proof Bar + Patio

Posted by Farrah Akhtar

It rained, it poured, and even a massive cool front swept into town. But despite all that, nothing could have turned down the heat or dampen spirits at Yelp's White Hot Night at Proof Bar + Patio!

More than 100 of yelps finest – the Yelp Elite Squad, that is – hit up Midtown's hottest rooftop patio bar for music, libations, games and massive prizes! It started off with crisp drinks courtesy of Blue Moon Belgian White and Redd's Apple Ale, along with Proof's signature Devil's Sin cocktail made with Devil's Cut Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey; and for sweet noshes, KIND Snacks provided a spread of gourmet health bars.

Passes to the iFest VIP tent weren't the only giveaways exciting the crowd. Amerejuve MedSpa was on the scene with their massive wheel of winnings – a lil' laser hair removal just in time for summer? Where do we sign up?! Meanwhile, the Houston Dynamo handed out replicas of the new BBVA Compass Stadium, sunnies, scarves, soccer balls – oh my! And not to leave out the glitzy face painting from Rawr! Party Paints

Missed out? David N kindly snapped away some party pics, and yelpers are sharing their version of the night right here!

Yelp's Spring Cleaning Soiree at Spin Cycle Cafe

Posted by Emily

‘Tis the season for Spring cleaning, and Hartford Elites found a way to make laundry less of a chore. On Friday evening, Yelpers rang in the weekend with a party at Spin Cycle Café – a laundromat with a full bar, café, live music and local art.

As Dan R so eloquently put it, “As someone who has popped more than his share of quarters into a laundromat change slot over the years, it is very cool to see that the latest generation of laundromats has merged with a neighborhood pub to create an offspring where you can dry your clothes while you wet your whistle.”

After dropping off generous heaps of clothing donations, guests sipped martinis and Olde Burnside beer while nibbling on mini quiches, quesadillas, chicken pesto wraps and more. Meanwhile, the amazing DJ Gavin spun some rad beats to start the night. As one of our cozier recent parties, Stephen T loves that the event "gave us more opportunities to meet some new people." Who says you can't make friends at the laundromat? Yelpers even left the event sporting some fab Elite socks!

Thanks to Spin Cycle Café for hosting and to Olde Burnside Brewing for providing fabulous Ten Penny Ale. Check out the reviews here and photos by Nick Caito here

Elites Wooed by Yelp's Date Night!

Posted by Elsa M.

Date Night was on Yelp this Friday, as Elites transitioned from 'office drab' to 'evening fab' for a night on the town!

As part of Yelp's Culture Club, CENTERSTAGE hosted an Elite-only reception prior to the evening production of "Clybourne Park," a Pulitzer-prize winning play and an answer to "A Raisin in The Sun." A dozen crystal chandeliers lit an intimate space tucked behind the seats in one of the playhouse's auditorium and Elites mixed and mingled below.

           Yelp's Date Night @ CENTERSTAGE

The famed Blacksauce Kitchen catered the affair with their fantastic cuisine complete with southern flare, while Deep Eddy Vodka wet their whistles with some of the smoothest, organic vodka around.

"Can we please add a 6th star for this event?! AH-MAY-ZING!" Kara F exclaims.

With a menu that included Smoked Pork and Pickled Onion Empanadas, Arugula w/ Grilled Mangoes and Agave Lime Dressing, roasted Mushroom Bread Pudding w/ Thyme Butter, Wood Grilled Ramps, and Miniature Cider Braised Chicken Biscuits, "Blacksauce Kitchen did NOT disappoint," she insists.

"The food was awesome from the mango salad to the chicken biscuits to the empanadas," Renee B co-signs, along with Jay L, who couldn't believe his tastebuds at first: "What surprised me was the beet salad. I am not usually a fan of beets, but the beets were roasted and prepared so perfectly, I had seconds."

Also scoring points with Elites as a suprising new favorite: Deep Eddy Vodka!

"The John Daily and the Shoreline cocktails with Deep Eddy Vodka was a great choice to break the ice as we circulated among the Elites and their dates," says Shawn C. He loved that this event was all about "bringing opportunity for class, cooth, and culture for the Yelp Elite-dom."

"Every time I see a play (at CENTERSTAGE) I'm always blown away. 'Clybourne Park' was no exception," Kara F confesses. "I laughed and I loved. Very well-written, but most importantly, well-acted. I was like a kid leaning forward and engaged from the moment the lights turned on until the final bow."

The perfect stage for a memorable evening...

Until the next time...

Yelp's Springfest Kick-Off @ Thunder Canyon Brewery

Posted by Bella

Ever wonder where your beer comes from or how it gets to be so darn delicious? Beermas came early and a group of lucky Tucson Yelp Elite were treated to an exclusive craft beer tasting at Thunder Canyon Brewery to kick-off the upcoming Springfest Beer Festival! From learning about the fragile nature of hops, the different grains used, continual hopping and even casking, Yelpers got a brewly good insight into the art of crafting beer in Tucson.

Collage 1
"Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder. And Thunder Canyon Brewery is beautimous! Each time Steve and Kyle came out with a new pitcher of beer they explained how the beer is made and it's unique qualities," yelps Kathy N.

12 beer tastings later, yeeps were undoubtedly in a hoppy place. Light bar bites complimented the tasting from spicy wings, to spinach dip, quesadillas, and more. "Their wings were some of the best I've had in Tucson and I have nothing negative to say about anything in their spread. I was very surprised to learn how much of their food is made from scratch and from local growers. It is those small touches TCB puts into both their food and their beer that makes them a total win!" Exclaims Joshua B. To top it all off, each Yelper was served a pint of their favorite beer of the night to wrap things up

A Yelp Elite event is never complete without a little friendly competition! In partnership with the Arizona Craft Brewers Guild, Yelp Tucson helped kick off their first Annual Springfest Beer Festival and we had 6 pairs of VIP Tickets to give away! Yelpers engaged in a friendly mobile contest. Those who added at least twelve images (capturing each beer), five useful tips and a got a photo with the owner Steve were eligible to win. Congratulations to fellow Elite and new Yelpers: Kathy N, Shawn O, Tamar B, Joshua B, Jenny Y and Reina R! Looks like this group was eager to win! We had a total of 152 pictures and 77 useful tips contributed to the event in two hours! Check 'em out here!

Collage 5
An enormous thank you to Steve and Kyle for welcoming our group with pitchers of beer in each hand. We truly had an incredible evening learning about the history of Thunder Canyon Brewery and your passion for your craft

Ana T says it right: "Tonight, you have honored and initiated Springfest with twelve distinguished beers and a plentitude of freakishly good quesadillas. In memory of this night, I ask that we lift up our pints to the very hospitable owner Steve and brewmaster Kyle, as they carry on in the creation of these divine drinks. Let us drink local and drink here."

An Offal(ly) Good Time At Block & Grinder for Charlotte Elites

Most of you may come from the school of the typical 3-course dinner – salad, entrée, and dessert, right? Yeah…..that’s fun and all, but why not dial it up waaaay past 11 and land on oh….I don’t know…8 courses and 4 craft cocktails paired throughout. Hey, that’s Charlotte, NC for you. We like to party. An intimate gathering met at one of Charlotte’s latest farm-to-table dining installments – Block & Grinder, for an Elite-Only dinner. Sigh~ the absence of many +1’s may have been forlorn, but good, nay, great company was found and enjoyed throughout this evening spent al fresco.

Photo 1

David A gives the masses a schooling on this “offal” gathering – “First, offal refers to most internal organs other than muscle and bone.” Chef Kent Graham isn’t afraid of getting you out of your comfort zone, shaking you up a bit, and placing you at the head of the table in his world. One look at the menu concocted for the Charlotte Elites and your head will spin. Meredith S admits, “The eight course meal really tested my bravery in trying new foods,” and there were many triumphant declarations of “I just ate a pig’s ear!” From pigs ears, chicken skins, sweetbreads, and wild game meatloaf, this offal evening was awfully unforgettable.

Photo 2-1
Photo 3

Joining in the culinary fray was our friends from Tito’s Vodka who were not shy about making a big splash on the scene. Splash indeed. Splash a little Anaheim pepper-infused syrup, passion fruit, and Tito’s for good measure – BAM! You’ve got yourself a Chupacabra! A spicy, peppery, sweet, tangy, and vibrantly colored cocktail. 4 cocktails of equal and unique caliber made their way from bartending magicians of Block & Grinder, Kyle and crew, onto the tables with every two courses. Chad E gives some insight – “Chupacabra for the win. This was no goat sucker, but there was plenty of sucking here, and not due to poor flavor. Nay, it was from everyone sucking their ice cubes to get every last drop.” Bravo, Tito’s and Block & Grinder’s impeccable bar staff for boozing up the crowd in the tastiest way imaginable.

Photo 1-1

Course 4….then 5…oh, dear….7….then, the 8th and final course of the evening. You see, Block & Grinder happens to be juxtaposed to one of Charlotte’s finest of chocolate purveyors – The Secret Chocolatier. Our fearless Elites were up for anything else that was to be thrown at them and these chocolate masters produced a wonderfully plated dessert for each guest. Emily P handily recalls the confection – “Chocolate mousse, orange infused whipped cream served in a chocolate shell on raspberry and chocolate sauce” paired with the orange-laden “Snowbird” cocktail. On top of dessert, our Elites were also adorned with their very own pair of “Elite Socks.” Whispers were heard throughout the patio of plans to sport them proudly at the gym and elsewhere. Sock it to em’, intrepid Yelpers!

Photo 2

Giannabrie F gives a nice synopsis of Block & Grinder’s approach – “Chef Kent Graham was adorable because you could sense the passion and effort he pours into each and every dish.  He takes pride in what he does and wants his customers to have a fabulous experience.” The evening was nothing short of unforgettable. With a high glass raised (most likely filled with a stellar Tito’s cocktail), cheers to Block & Grinder, Tito’s Vodka, The Secret Chocolatier, and our pink-haired friend, Poprock Photography, for delievering and capturing an evening that will be placed in the Yelp record books.

Oslos Yelpfest: Et moBILt arrangement @Cafe de Concert

Posted by Tine

Møt Aksel Kolstad:

Her er Aksel Kolstad.

Say what? Uhum!

Nei... Allerede nå har jeg konkludert med at the sky is NOT the limit."

Meet Aksel Kolstad:

This is Aksel Kolstad

Aksel Kolstad is the founder of Cafe de Concert. To explain this place, I have to introduce you to the man himself first. Daniel T says: "What met me, was a guy full of energy from Fredrikstad, that handled the piano elegantly, while switching between languages as they were things on a shelf." He is a very untypical man is his prime year, continuously joking around until your muscles ache, bigtime fan of Michael Jordan, and runs his own gallery on Tjuvholmen. In addition, of course Porsche lent him a sweet chariot with four wheels he has actually taken inside the gallery and a mini basketball court. Oh, and he keeps both ketchup, mustard and a piano in his bathroom. Say what? I kid you not.

Cathrine W: It was really something different, but such a great and positive surprise and I will definitely go again!

In other words, very typical Yelp Oslo. We were invited over and it was fun, it was cool, and very very different anything else we've ever done. The night started off with a mix between a standup comedy show and a classical piano concert. Karthik J was impressed: "The highlight was his ability to play a wide range of compositions ranging from Mozart to Bach." A Yelp-event includes food. On Aksel's menu it usually says hot dogs and champagne (soda), and this night was no exception. Even though it was only Wednesday, we're still talking Tjuvholmen, and it's important to keep it classy. We also had a mini basketball competition, with grand prices for the winners. This was almost too much for Håkon R to handle: "I was so close to winning one free month use of the Porsche, but my nerves and anticipation finally got the best of me in the final round. The ball just wouldn't go in the basket!

As usual, we also had a photo competition, this time won by Jens Christian B, who received two free tickets to English Comedy Night with Paul B. Edwards.

Thank you so much for having us over, Aksel. As Yelp is the guide for everything fun, useful and cool in Oslo, we unfortunately must say once and for all that Fredrikstad is not the capital of Norway! I will still round it all off with some Jens Christian B praise: "While I'm writing this, I'm sitting here wondering how come all these Yelp parties can be better and better every time. There must be roof? No... I've already concluded that the sky is NOT the limit."

A big thank you also to our wonderful photographer, Jin Phung.

Sushi Unlimited Brings On The Eats For Sacramento's Elites!

Posted by Alex L
Sacramento elites were treated to an endless abundance of edible delights Wednesday night during the third event with Sushi Unlimited celebrating their Roseville location! Titled "Yelp's Rock n' Rolls," it was a chance for over 100 attendees in total to sample their wide array of fresh made sushi rolls and related treats along with beer and wine priced at only $2. As always, they took good care of our elite guests - extra food was being taken home in doggie bags!

The Roseville Sushi Unlimited is a spacious yet cozy family-oriented restaurant that is a hot spot for sushi lovers throughout the Sacramento region. From moment one, our guests were showered with tray after tray of the restaurant's delectable rolls and appetizers, including edamame, beef and chicken teriyaki, stuffed mushrooms, deep fried gyoza, and various fresh-fish rolls of all shapes, tastes and sizes! The karaoke machine was unfortunately down for the count, but that didn't stop folks from singing their praises for the free feast! Said first time event attendee Gabriel N, "The service was amazing! The waitresses always refilled my water at ridiculous speeds and checked up quite often. The food was really good and there was more than enough even though there was a full house."

The food was just the beginning, as yelpers next lined up to wet their palette's with a delicious selection of wine and beers on tap. The highlighted beer of the night was Sapporo, and two lovely Sapporo girls were on hand to mix and mingle with the crowd, handing out swag as reminders of the brew they were enjoying. Between the great food, service and atmosphere, many yelpers vowed to come back soon for an overall good time. Of course, it helps when they offer amazing specials and discounts on a regular basis and elites get an additional 20% off their next meal with no restrictions!

Big props to the amazing Melissa Uroff for her compelling shots. A very special thank you goes to John Kim and his staff, along with the good folks from Clickspring for making this possible! Check out the reviews as they roll in!

Zürich Elite Event: Ab ins Theater

Posted by Simon R

On a warm April eve, the Yelp Elites gathered at Boulevard Bar Lounge Theater. They were in for a treat. Peter D and his team had organized a great night - starting with some appetizers with beer and wine in the sun, followed by episode 14 of their very own live sitcom "Albisriederplatz" which convinced with a humorous storyline and Zurich dialect - it's as local as it gets. During the break and after the show we were treated with delicious food again, the "Creme Boulevard" being one of them. And again there was a competition, this time the attendants had to answer a guessing question to win a Yelp goodie bad including a Yelp tee. Also, the Yelp Elites got their 2013 Elite gift: absolutely sexy-looking red socks. Another great night with the Zurich Yelp Elite - and there are many more to come.

It's All Fun and Games at Yelp's "Game Day" at Lucky Strike in Orange

Posted by Ryan C.

LET THE YELP GAMES BEGIN! Unlike the hunger version with Jennifer Lawrence, no Elites were harmed (or killed) during our event at Lucky Strike in Orange this past Tuesday.

Yelpers went crazy with their garbs and Tammy G "really loved the costume theme, and how many people participated." She was also happy that her "sixth grader's Dodgers jersey" fit perfectly for the occasion. Though her costume was amazing, she was "inspired by the human Rubik's cube, Monopoly Man, corn hole, the Mario and Packman gang, afro tennis player, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, war games, and Barry Bonds" threads that the guests donned for the evening. She affirms, the "human Twister deserved her prize, and my tickets" as she took home a pair of season passes to the 2013 Orange County Fair!

There were a ton of activities for Yelpers of all ages including giant Jenga, corn hole, shuffleboard, billiards, live trivia, and of course… bowling! Though many "took pictures and bowled" Jonathan Z "spent most of the time at the pool table getting his butt handed to him by a fellow Yelper and playing trivia" where the grand prize was a $50 gift card to Lucky Strike!

The generous hosts sampled new items off of their menu such as Belgian fries served with curry ketchup and chimichurri aioli, grilled chicken jerk skewers, classic blue cheese mini burgers and margherita pizzas. Howie C was a fan of the fries and claimed they were "to die for!" These "double fried, thick squared cut fries" came with a variety of dipping sauces, however his "favorite was the honey mustard." Though the sauce is "not on the menu" he assumes they'd be more than happy to "bring it out for you" if you asked nicely.

Of course, a night can't be complete without drinks. The venue sampled beers by Hangar 24 Brewery and cocktails like the Hangar 1 Blueberry Moscow Mule, Three Olives Cherry Mojito and 1800 Silver Margarita. Sukhraj B compliments the "bartenders who were and awesome and served some stiff drinks" and deemed the "cherry mojito and blueberry Moscow Mule as a hit!"

No prizes were awarded for the games, however nobody went home empty handed as the highly anticipated Elite socks made an appearance and into the hands of yearning guests. Julie L loved the gift that were not only "fluffy and very well made," but they are definitely her favorite piece of "swag to date!"

Thanks so much Lucky Strike! We all had a blast and your staff was amazing.

The Station Gave PDXYelp Elites A Real Shocker!

Posted by Don Bourassa

What do you get when you combine 100 of Portland's best and brightest, stellar local imbibables, tasty snacks and a historic power station that's been converted to a great gastropub? Yelp's AC/DC Elite Event @ The Station! Yes, Tuesday, April 16, 2013 will be a date to remember!

"Within moments of walking through the door, the lovely staff at the Station had a drink" in first-timer Ian H's hand. Specifically, a New Deal Distilling No. 33 Gin n' tonic that Ian swears "knocked my ass in the dirt." Or maybe the re-done floors of this building on the National Historic Register. Either way, that's a perfect way to light up the night. In fact the current of libations were flowing from all directions. "Wine tasting from David Hill Winery (that pinot was more like a pin-yes, amright?); a solid show from one of Oregon's oldest breweries, Widmer Brothers Brewing; and some New Deal craft cocktails" were, as Janessa P notes, all on offer. Melvin T adds that "the servers were lightning quick to take my drink orders and then find me to deliver them." But it wasn't just about the drinks. "The kitchen killed it tonight. We were served deviled eggs, oyster shooters, kung pao chicken wings, grilled calamari, mac and cheese, hoisin green beans, and a salad." All stand-out delicious!

It wouldn't be a proper Elite Event without a theme, and as Delilah K shamelessly admits "hidden deep in my closet is all you need for an epic rock band themed Yelp event. But we weren't limited just to back-in-black, some intrepid elites like Merilou T, Jonathan S and more took the Tesla vs. Edison challenge to the next level. We'll let history decide the winner of that battle, but Melvin T, Merilou T, and Niki S walked away with top honors for bessed dressed. Shout out to Tamara C for bringing black back!

Tiffany M sums it up well: "Such a great event! So glad I got to meet some new fellow Yelpers, have some delicious food, and drink amazing drinks." This is all in good part to the hard work from Josh, Brooke and the staff from The Station; Tom from new Deal; Kevin from Widmer Brothers Brewing; Michele and her partner in crime from David Hill; Hilary B (my photographer for the night, and wife for life); and of course the PDXYelp Elite Squad, without whom none of this would be possible. Props!

Don't just take my word for it. Read the reviews (and leave one of your own), peep the photos, and don't forget that PDXYelp is on FB and the Twitters

Check the calendar for a slew of upcoming Elite events, and until next time, SYOY!

Serious burgers. Seriously smashing.

Posted by peter d.

Please understand that I'm not an advocate of overeating. It's unhealthy, and if you make a habit of it, it can actually be dangerous (be careful out there, kids). That said, there are times in your life when certain opportunities present themselves... For instance, Smashburger might decide to offer you eight different delicious burgers and you simply have to seize the day and stuff every single savory one into your face. Carpe burger, if you will.

This was one of those opportunities, and I'm glad to say that some of Brooklyn's finest yelpers rose to the challenge. Last night the hospitable folks that run the Brooklyn Smashburger welcomed us in for a truly epic tasting with some serious SIZZLE. The owner Jim and Leah, our fantastic host, led us through a burger odyssey that proved there really is a burger for everyone.

There was the New Yorker: NY cheddar, garlic grilled onions, spinach, tomato and peppercorn garlic aioli on a brioche bun (apparently New Yorkers are OK with dragon breath). There was the Spicy Veggie Black Bean: pepper jack cheese, guacamole, lettuce, tomato, onion, spicy chipotle mayo and fresh jalapenos on a spicy chipotle bun (apparently meatless can still be delectable). There was the Brooklyn: grilled pastrami, aged swiss, pickles, onion and yellow mustard on a pretzel bun. It shouldn't surprise anyone when Brooklyn is the best, but Neil B took a poll this burger "sat alone in first place in a very competitive division."

And there were five more fantastic options after that! Not to mention impossibly crispy fries, oreo shakes and more. I personally tried to tap out several times, and as Jenny M says, "I started worrying (a) if a human being could explode from eating too much and (b) how soon I could get back out to Smashburger for more." After all, the food was wonderful, but what really sets this location apart is the smiling service from every single staff member. They really want you to have a good burger and a good time, and it shows! A huge thanks again to Leah, Jim and the amazing Smashburger staff for a memorable night. I know I'll be back soon for that BBQ, Bacon & Cheddar burger, hope to see you all there!

Now Boarding: Yelp NC Triangle's Jet Set Fête

Posted by Christina Gates

Last Monday, Yelpers arrived at Solas in downtown Raleigh, rode the elevator to the roof-top, and proceeded to check-in for their flight to Europe. While lounging at the gate, awaiting departure, gracious attendants served up glasses of peach moscato and their own tasty invention -- "Mile High" cocktails made with Flight 69 gin. The setting sun and open air on the rooftop set the scene... clear skies: a beautiful night for flying!

Our restaurant Captain, Mark, announced take-off and yelpers descended downstairs to Bia Restaurant. Passport and wine glass in hand, everyone was packed and prepared for our three layovers and a European taste tour. Jenessy A sums, "Our first stop was at Italy -- steak deep in tomato sauce, and scallops which were ama-zing. Secondly, France with pâté crostini and choice of pickled red onions, chives, egg yolk and whites to top, and fried goat cheese that had me hooked. Last, Spain with the familiar paella, plus cheese and sliced meats." Ruben G adds, "Kudos to the fine folks that put each of those dishes together," as well as the corresponding red and white regional wines. "I think they did a very good job of pairing the sweetness vs. dryness with each tapa. And for those that left without sampling the desserts on the Third Floor -- too bad for you. Seriously, you missed some wonderful little sweetnesses... from the chocolate-dipped strawberries to the macaroons, and the miniature cupcakes with an exquisite whipped raspberry icing (drool), man-o-man! These folks did it right!"

Our hosts selected the best-geared tourists, and awarded their nomadic stylings with $300-worth of gift cards. But the fun didn't stop there, as they raffled off French, Spanish, and Italian wines to attendees who stayed for the after party. Thanks to DJ Dave Severance for providing the rooftop tunes... and helping many of us forget it was Monday night!

Yelpers: Thank you for flying with Bia -- we hope you'll think of them again for your future culinary adventures!

Bia: A huge thank you to your entire staff, and especially to Mark, Scott, and Todd for being incredible hosts and a true pleasure to work with.

Way more snapshots for your scrapbooking available here. Make sure to read up on everyone's travelogue, and start planning your own trip to Bia! Frankly, we agree with Brittany G: "I can't wait to come back to Bia/Solas on a date or with some friends! I always loved the rooftop bar and now I have even more reasons to go!"

Until next time, SYOY!

Yelp Elites Travel To Greece Via Orlando Cuisine

Posted by Colleen Burns

That's right, Orlando Elites enjoyed a journey to Greece by way of International Drive and indulged in a night of Mediterranean cuisine, crazy chaos and cocktails at Taverna Opa. We took over a private dinning area in the back and danced, ate and drank our way into the evening.

The night's festivities raised money and supported the Community Food & Outreach Center who's mission is to provide a hand up for those in need, helping them to break free from poverty by offering hunger relief, crisis care, transformative education, and employment training opportunities.

"Not only do we get to try some fantastic grub, we learned about a nonprofit organization, the Community Food & Outreach Center. They provide food for those in need and they also have counseling services.  Being an individual who works in the healthcare industry, it's great to see such an organization provide these type of services. Bravo!" - Annie F

PicMonkey Collage

The festivities included freshly made marinated Chicken Kebobs with vegetables from the farmer's market, freshly made meze including Hummus, succulent Lamb Chops (the Yelper's fav) along with their signature Baklava. We sipped on Mythos Greek beer, wines and Yelp-inspired cocktails and seasonal drinks made with local fruits.

"The Greeks know how to throw a party! I enjoyed loots of delicious food, cocktails, baklava, belly dancers and gracious hosts. What a fantastic Elite event." - Kelli M

PicMonkey Collage3

Taverna Opa Orlando pays homage to Mediterranean cuisine, utilizing traditional cooking methods. Items imported from Greece such as cheeses, olives and extra virgin olive oils are used in dishes, while signatures like Tzatziki, Hummus, Greek Yogurt and Dolmades are made from scratch, fresh daily.

"I HIGHLY recommend this place for a bday/wedding/whatever celebration--perfect kind of place to do that. The food... all made fresh using local produce which we were told is collected routinely by the management directly to create flavors that are bold and authentic. I think the winner of the night was the lamb though. Those fresh, local ingredients they use really came out in this seasoned selection.
Juicy yet charred. Like yin-yang in your mouth... a perfect balance for your eating pleasure. " - Danny T

PicMonkey Collage2

"Our group was tucked into a private room next to the main room and I cannot definitively tell you where our party ended and where the main dining room party began. Super festive atmosphere throughout, very nice servers and wonderful food. With music pumping, a shower of napkins floating through the air like confetti and a cry of OPA throughout the restaurant, a gorgeous belly dancer twirled her way through the crowd." - Lisa W

SNAP! Studio Booth and The Bokeh Studio were on hand to capture everyone arriving, everyone partying and of course the amazing food and fun. Props and Yelpy company helped us document the evening and everyone can check out all of the photos on our Yelp Flickr page as well as our YelpOrlando Facebook page and tag away!

"SNAP Studio Booth ensures that you will loosen up for perfect picture moment. So much fun!" - Rashmi P

Elites Enjoy Their Most Mellow Tax Day Ever!

Posted by Joi

As the saying goes, nothing's certain in life but death and taxes...

But New Orleans Elites are fortunate because Mellow Mushroom in Metairie made one more thing certain for us this past tax day: an evening full of beer and pizza (and salads, sandwiches, apps, sweets and wine, too!) The perfect warm evening had us enjoying patio dining, and after getting seated at small tables of 4 (the rule was to sit next to someone you didn't know), various courses were presented and brought out to us with a vengeance!

Our first course was the Hippy Dippy Trio of hummus, olive salad and tomatoes with crostini, followed up with a basket of the most addictive pretzel bites ever with cheese and mustard to dip into. And then there were the enormous bowls of spinach salad. After all that goodness was brought to our tables, owner of Mellow Mushroom, Billy, warned us that we had to keep room for bountiful buffets of sandwiches (jerk chicken, pulled pork and Portobello mushroom were just a few of the tantalizing options), not to mention pizza upon pizza! Favorites included: pesto, BBQ shrimp, meat lovers, and Thai chicken. Mellow Mushroom is all about taking care of folks with dietary needs and there were delicious vegan and gluten-free pizzas as well.

And let's not forget the liquid relaxers! Beers we all got to sample (and sample and sample) from Mellow Mushroom's impressive list of draft beers included Canebrake, from Parish Brewing Co., a new local craft brewery in Broussard, LA. The oenophiles among us sampled (and sampled) a large variety of wines, courtesy of Southern Eagle.

Yes, most of us were full to bursting but we couldn't resist the desserts that came out after, a giant chocolate chip cookie and key lime cheesecake. Cue the food comas!

To add to the relaxing vibe of this evening, everyone got a nifty gifty, the Yelp Elite tube socks. Can't get cozier, right?

April 15 has never held such fond memories... Many, many thanks to the folks at Mellow Mushroom.

It was Eleni F's very first Elite event and she relates, "All in all I was very impressed with the spread and the lovely atmosphere of the balcony of the mellow mushroom. I am sure we will be back again, soon." Read the rest of the reviews and relive the gluttinous glory with the pix on flickr!

Yours in piles of pizza,

Joi B
