KC Elites are of a hearty stock. It's going to take more than some snow on the ground to keep them away from the mother of all beer tasting events: Yelp's Firkin Awesome. We may have had to wait an extra week while we dug ourlselves out from underneath 18 inches of show, but when the time finally arrived, Bier Station treated the Yelp community to a delicious event that was equal parts drinking and learning.
As Yelpers climbed the stairs up to the Beer Garden, they were greeted with custom-made pretzel necklaces, a beer festival tradition. Springfield's Mother's Brewing Company was the guest of honor, treating tastebuds to a variety of handcrafted flavors. On tap? A custom firkin of Spring Batch Saison, infused with Sorachi hops and kumquat. The brewey rep had the honor of tapping the firkin, and was then on hand to teach the guests about the beer they were enjoying (some two glasses at a time!)
Next stop? Randals! The Bier Station management schooled Yelpers about their Wednesday night specialty, creating customized beers using a process called table-top randalling. Mother's Lil Helper IPA was poured into French presses and combined with flavors like mango and Citra hopps. Yelpers were excited to learn that it's ok to experiment with your beer!
Joining the party was local bakery Farm to Market, sharing their homemade soft pretzels. Bier Station provided a variety of dipping options, such as including garlic ailoi and gourmet mustard. After everybody had plenty of time to enjoy their custom brews, it was time to announce the winners of the evening's raffle. Two lucky Yelp Elites won variety packs of Mother's Brewing beers to be enjoyed at home.
Thanks to everybody for coming to this event, and a special thanks to Yelptern Heather P for taking the reigns while I was away. I missed sharing beers with you at this event, but I'm sure there are plenty of nights at Bier Station in my future.
