Soirée Élite Sucrée au Sweet Isabelle

(scroll down for the English)

SweetIsabelle2.jpg
Éric A

Last night in Montreal, while Mother Nature teased us with spring vibes in late Janaury, the high temperatures allowed about 15 Elite Yelpers to get out of their cocoon and make the treck to the “Sweet Elite Soirée” at Sweet Isabelle. For Christine L, “cookie and cupcake decoration is like returning in time! For the space of one evening, I was four-years-old and I really had fun!” Even Bobby A felt “like a kid again back in school during arts and crafts hour.”

SweetIsabelle1.jpg
To start off the evening, guests were welcomed with a glass of wine and a tasting of crispy and savoury bites from Phyllo Bar Melina's. Spanakopita, tyropita and prassopita might be complicated to pronouce, even more so when your mouth is full of the greek pastries, but this did not stop the Yelp Elites from chatting, laughing and letting us know what they liked about the evening.

SweetIsabelle2.jpg
Éric A
“didn’t see time go by! The ambiance was relax and we could feel that people were having fun decorating their cookies” But cookie decorating was not the only thing on the menu. Did Darko A tell you about “baking and decorating a cupcake? Tasting delicious cheddar and bacon shortbread? And the chocolate ones?” It was the perfect recipe for “an excellent Yelp evening with other Elites that were all playful and cheerful.”

SweetIsabelle3.jpg
A huge thank you to Joanna for the tasty bites from Phyllo Bar Melina’s, as well as the whole team at Sweet Isabelle for the wonderful evening. Special thanks Isabelle for her contagious enthusiasm and Michel for taking great photos of the group!

Yelp Berlins erstes Elite Event in 2013

Posted by Svenja

Balloons

======================English below======================

The year has just begun, yet we party again. For the first Elite Event in 2013 we met in the chappelle am Urban, with strong support of the VIQs /Very Important Qyper). Ulrike Marschner´s häppies, small filled dumplings, not only made our stomachs happy, but put a smile on every face.  Natalye S was delighted to notice that the asian dumplings were not just tasty but vegan as well. Häppies, the curry-tofu-peanut-ginger filled dumplings, were served with coconut-mango-sauce and black rice salad.  Now who would dare to say vegan does not taste great! By now häppies are not available in stores, so visit the homepage or yelp for the opening date. Nick K would love another Yelp Event with häppies:"We have to make this happen!"

Sponsoren2
Of course drinks were available and special thanks goes to our generous partners: Heineken und Becks joined the Berliner Brandstifter, which tastes delicious with Biozisch Ginger Life, to mix a Berlin Mule (the Berlin version of Moscow Mule). Wostok, the russian recipe with a berlin comeback, was one of the main reasons for Monica Z to show up:"If there´s Wostock, I´ll be right there!" Whoever felt tired after work, was able to experience a boost of energy after a sip of Raubtierbrause from our partner notebooksbilliger.de.

Yelper Booth
Everyone got a snack and a drink? Great, so lets start the balloon raffle. For this every guest got a balloon and a card. On this card it said the adress of the night, Grimmstraße 10 and a nice message from a Yelper/Qyper. Whoever finds the balloon together with the card, should sign in on Yelp and upload a picture with the balloon under "Yelps fliegende Ballons". Yelper/Qyper and finder will get a surprise from me as a reward. So have your fingers crossed!

Thanks to the Startup Uber, the tired Yelper and Qyper were chauffeured home by private drivers in exclusive limousines. No matter how much beer, Brandstifter or tequila, with Uber everyone made it home safely.

I would love if you guys could review the evening here. Without your feedback I never know if you had fun and what kind of event you would like in the future. The pictures are on facebook and in case you haven´t liked  Yelp Berlin Facebook yet, THIS is your chance.

Yelper
A big thank you to our partners Biozisch, Wostok von Tannenwald, Becks, Heineken, Berliner Brandstifter and Sierra Tequila. A special compliment deserves Uli from häppies, who made all of us want more and wait impatiently fot the opening of the store. Without my collegues Sanneke, Olli and Stan this wonderful evening would not have been possible, a million thanks to you. Whoever wants to celebrate in this location, check out the homepage of Kapelle am Urban. And we couldn't admire any of these fantastic pictures without the wonderful work of K:FEE KunstundKönnen.

Yelp Belts It Out at Karaoke Heroes

Posted by Emily

On Tuesday night, Yelp Elites ventured into the Elm City to nerd out and belt it out at superhero-themed Karaoke Heroes. Crooners and croakers alike took to the mic with renditions of favorites in every genre, from Cat Stevens to Spice Girls. A delectable Italian spread provided by P&M Market added to the merriment, while Budweiser Black Crown sponsored the group’s liquid courage. Thank you, Karaoke Heroes for hosting us at one of the coolest bars in New Haven!

Kh1
Is it possible to get a little too karaoked away? Not for Yelp Elites! With “Dramatic themed music accompanying you” on your walk in, “You really feel like you’re entering Gotham,” admits Madeleine L.

Kh1

“From the comic book themed illuminated wall displays, to a PS3 with wireless controllers with Mortal Kombat, to the motion sensor LED bar that lights up when you wave your hand over it,” Eric H assures us, “this place really is a nonstop stimulation factory.” For “self-professed semi-amateur singster,” Alfred F, Karaoke Heroes’ music list is downright impressive. “With over 6,000 songs,” it “seems to be growing by the day.”

Kh3

Before taking the stage, Elites chowed down on flavor-packed Italian specialties from P&M Market including heaping antipasto platters, their signature stuffed breads, “fresh mozzarella and vine ripe tomato” skewers with basil, mini foccacia sandwich bites, and Eric H’s personal “party platter highlight” – the stuffed mushrooms. “These little mushroom poppers were seasoned to the brim and juicy as hell!”

Kh4

Thank you to Karaoke Heroes and P&M Market for a wonderful event! Read the party reviews here, and leave your own if you attended! Peep the pics by the talented Nick Caito on Flikr. Sound neat to be Elite? Find out more here.

Madison Elites Save Time, Eat Brunner @ Daisy Cafe & Cupcakery

Posted by Corey Dane

What's brunner you ask?

A delicious combination of the days three meals... duh!

And what better way for a busy Elite to cram all the meals into two hours and create more time for doing what they do best (Yelping!) than Yelp's Stunner Brunner!

          Daryl       Hath2

Daisy owners and chefs Daryl Sisson and Kathy Brooks created a crave-worthy combination of some of their signature items, including Chorizo Strata, Reuben Meat Loaf and Roasted Vegetable Enchiladas, the spicy kick from the enchiladas being a highlight for most. Hathaway Dilba from Ale Asylum stopped by with brews, and Daisy poured one of their signature beverages, the Whoopsy Daisy in addition to some red and white vino from Cupcake Wines. Aside from the delectable food and awesome libations, the history, philosphy and story behind Daisy that Daryl shared with our group really resonated with people. Next time you're there, ask them about their start and about their strong ties to the community.

     Food1     Food2     Food3

Thanks to Daryl and Kathy and the entire Daisy team for making our evening so magnificent. There's a reason why they were voted best staff 3 times in a row by Isthmus readers. Big thanks to Hathaway for keeping folks hydrated and sending lucky raffle winners home with beer and coasters. Thanks also to Jen Dederich for snapping pics of happy Brunner eaters. So many smiling faces!

Cocktails & Bling in Helsinki

Posted by Mikko

Helsingin uusi Yelp-vuosi alkoi kokkareiden merkeissä, Yelp Event @ Bar 7 Blings tapahtumalla.

    DSC_0016     DSC_0137

Illan mieleenpainuvin cocktail oli ehdottomasti suurelta tarjottimelta nautittu ”Push the Glutton”. Nimi siis jo viittaa vahvasti ahneuteen ja syykin on päivänselvä kun luettelee mitä drinkkikokonaisuuteen kuuluu: mangoa jäätelöä, suklaakastiketta, vaahtokarkkeja ja paahdettua pekonia. Baarimikot loivat kaiken kukkuraksi tapahtumaan tulleille Yelppereille ihan oman Santa’s Little Yelper –nimikkodrinkin. Ja kyllä, se oli hyvin punainen.

       DSC_0051    DSC_0023    DSC_0105    DSC_0128

Hyvän seuran ja juoman lisäksi, iltaan kuului ihmisbingo kisailua. Voittajaksi kruunattiin Ansgar F, joka palkittiin kahdella vippilipulla Funky Awards –musiikkigaalaan. Kukaan ei joutunut poistumaan tyhjin käsin, Bar 7 Blings nimittäin antoi jokaiselle osallistujalle kantajäsenyyden, joka oikeuttaa jatkossa alennettuihin hintoihin.

DSC_0132  L2  DSC_0094

Magnus Ö kiteyttää koko illan tällä lauseella: ”rento ja tyylikäs paikka, drinksut hyviä ja palvelu äärimmäisen osaavaa ja ystävällistä”. Tapahtuman arvosteluja voi käydä lukemassa tästä!

    DSC_0120  DSC_0106

Iso kiitos etenkin Bar 7 Blingsille ja totta kai kaikille tapahtumaan osallistuneille.

Ensikertaan!

Yelp London Gets Legendary @ Sophie's Steakhouse

Posted by Alex Shebar

L9995149

"There are so many good things to say about this amazing event that I have no idea where to begin. No idea. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Yelp has made my London life so awesome I can't ever express enough gratitude.” - Nava N

We’re right there with Nava, there were so many fantastic things to say about Yelp London’s last event, we don’t know where to start. The food, the drinks, the atmosphere and the beautiful space. It was Yelp’s Legendary Steak Dinner at Sophie’s Steakhouse and it was indeed legend - wait for it - dary. Legendary!

Drinks
As soon as guests arrived, they were allowed to chose a drink off Sophie’s fantastic menu. Chili mixtures, elderflower and champagne martinis, there were so many choices.

“I decided to go all guns blazing with a martini which had egg white in it. Have you ever heard of a cocktail with egg white? It was delicious,” Jules H told us.

205710_322321404555104_1293828890_n

After chatting with owners Sophie and Rupert, guests were then lead to their tables, each spot with it’s own personalized placemat... And then the food began

Food

It was three courses, so amazing; we’re simply going to let the Yelpers speak about it:

First Course: “We started off our meal with a mixed board of terrines of mackerel, ham hock and chicken liver pate. My God, the chicken liver pate was something out of this world. I would eat that on anything at any time, ever.” – Linzi M

Second Course: “A porterhouse and a cote du bouef were the stars of the show, and these were cooked to perfection. They came with béarnaise and horseradish sauce, but frankly the meat was so good on its own I didn't bother! The sides were creamed spinach, chips, a house salad and some mashed potato, and all of these were just spot on. Up there with the best steak I've eaten.” – Fotios T

Final Course: “At this point I have no idea how I made any space in my stomach… but dessert came out and I made room! The pineapple carpaccio with coconut ice cream was my favourite, followed by the sticky toffee pudding and the cheesecake. Wine was on flow all night and the company was excellent.” – Amy S

It was the little things that really made the event. For Jessi P, it was the service: “The wait staff were friendly and attentive and ooooh the waiter made eye contact when he handed me my plate across the table. Staff can make such a difference to the tone of an evening, and they were nothing but encouraging of our lighthearted mood.”

People
Everyone left the evening with a goodybag, that included a bottle of Sophie’s homemade steak sauce.

In the end, Valerie S was so impressed, she had to write a love letter to the restaurant :

“Dear Sophie and Rupert: I am so completely astounded at the level of hospitality showered down on me and my fellow Yelpers as we descended en masse on your restaurant on an ordinary Monday evening. Your staff were impeccable--from the bartenders who plied us with the most amazing cocktails I've had yet in London (the espresso martini changed my life when it comes to chilled coffee drinks) to the table staff who seamlessly delivered courses and refilled glasses and made recommendations and generally just made me feel like I was in the best hands possible on a walk through Steak Town.”

If we could, we would live in Steak Town. But don’t just take our word for it. But don’t just take our word for it. You can read all the reviews right here as well as check out all the pics by Jason Ellis on the Official Yelp Flickr Page.

Yelp's Totally 80's Elite Event at Yoga Alive!

Posted by Cindy

80's5

"Let's get physcial, physcial! Let me hear your body talk." In the words of Olivia Newton John, our bodies were definelty talkin' at Yelp's Totally 80's Elite Event at Yoga Alive last Saturday. The night was full of excersise, tunes, food, fun, and too many 80's refernces to count!

Yelpspin

The night started off with Yelpers taking a 30 minute hot spin session. Yoga Alive is the only studio in Cincinnati with Real Ryder bikes that actually move with you while you're on them. Andi B shares, "Amelia was great at encouraging everyone as well as helping them understand how to use the bikes to the best of their ability. And if the photos don't give you an idea of how spirited this event was I doubt words could do it. The playlist was fantastic but the outfits were even better!"

Yogaaction

Yogamove

Yelpers then joined instructor Cheryl in the hot yoga studio for a power hour of 80's themed Yoga. "The staff at Yoga Alive was super friendly and knew their stuff. We got to try several different styles of yoga in the hour we were in the studio." Nathan F admits, this is "one of the more creative events that I have been to! I will definitely be taking advantage of the free week at Yoga Alive's new studio in Clifton then probably doing the 10 for $10 deal! Another great event Cindy!"

Vitaminwater

After all that hotness Yelpers gathered out in the lobby for a healthy cool down sesh. Vitamin Water brought a ton of yummy flavors to keep us both happy and hydrated! Phozen was also there coolin' us down with their new line of signature tea flavors, as well as the usual favorites!

  PhrozenYelp

Silverglades provided some healhy wrap options ranging from their award winning chicken salad, to their delicious veggie, ham, turkey and cheese. All increible!

Silverglades

When the night ended it was bittersweet. But at least we got some sweet pictures to remember this crazy event! Kara C said it best, "Everyone's outfits were totally rad!  It was great to see everyone get into the theme and jamming to some 80's classics. This was one of the most unique Yelp events yet and  I enjoyed being able to try something new with a good group of people."

But don’t just take our word on the night’s awesomeness, you can read all the reviews right here. You can also check out the other cool pics by photographer extraordinaire Anna Penny on the Official Yelp Flickr page!

A huge thank you to Cheryl and her team at Yoga Alive!

Special thanks to Vitamin Water, Phrozen and Sliverglades. As well as all the Yelp Cincy Elites that made this 80's elite event well...TOTALLY AWESOME!

Yelp NC Triangle Gets Acquainted at an Elites-Only Sit-Down Supper

Posted by Christina Gates

The ever-popular Tobacco Road Sports Café recently expanded their little local empire to Chapel Hill... and invited Yelp to come check it out! To mark our first-ever 2013 event, and get our newly minted Elite Squad acquainted, our kick-off event was Elites only in a sit-down dinner setting! What better way to break the ice, and celebrate all the work Elites' palates, iPhone cameras, and keyboards endured to earn that shiny new badge?

Assigned seating gave everyone a chance to meet new Yelpers. And the private room was soon filled with fifty local foodies making friends! Chef Patrick created an inspired four-course menu, each prepared to pair with a delicious draught courtesy of Great Lakes Brewing, demonstrating the venue's prowess for serving delicious food in a sleek sports bar atmosphere. As Patrick put it, "We're really a restaurant that just happens to have a lot of TVs!"

Table

Course one paired Great Lakes Irish Ale with rosemary-mushroom brochette over cumin-scented potato cake with slaw and dijon mustard cream. The second course featured melt-in-your-mouth smoked pork belly, tomato, arugula, and pesto aili on grilled ciabatta, washed back with an Eliot Ness Amber Lager. Next, plates of cocoa-coffee rubbed petite tenderlion drizzled with peppered blackberry gastrique complemented a Great Lakes Porter. And to round out the evening, cinnamon apple bread pudding and a scoop of butter pecan Lumpy's (in Wake Forest!) ice cream paired wonderfully with the grapefruit notes in the Commodore Perry IPA.

Food

Everyone departed with a full belly and a Tobacco Road backpack filled with schwag -- including the Yelp's on Tap pint glass debut! With special thanks and 5 shiny stars to Amanda at Great Lakes, Erica, Patrick, and the entire Tobacco Road staff for making our first event of 2013 a smashing success.

More pictures here. Reviews here.

And here's to a great year ahead!

Yelp's Winter Break: Harrah's Resort, Atlantic City

Posted by Stephanie

What happens when you get hundreds of Yelpers from across the Northeast seaboard together in one place in Atlantic City? As our Manhattan man Bobby C puts it, it's "like a puppy, chocolate, scotch, a cashmere sweater and the Shawshank Redemption all rolled into one." Thanks to Harrah's ResortsKevin J "didn't feel pressured by" the staff but, welcomed by the "chefs and management interacting with us on a personal level, giving us smiles and pleasantries." We'll chalk it up to the amazing customer service, quality hotel rooms, and comfy beds on how they recognize "the value of making AC a repeat destination." Oh, will we be back! PicMonkey CollageFriday's doom and gloom weather of snow, sleet and freezing rain couldn't keep these Yelpers down. "The happy hour at Eden Lounge was just the pick me up we needed after that scary ass drive. We were able to fill our bellies with fruit, cheese, chicken, shrimp, and eggrolls and top it all off with $3 Cafe Patron shots to get the party started," touts Tracey C coming in from DC. Did we mention everyone received a Yelp tote chock full of deals all around AC and of course a Kind snack or two and PretzelCrisps? PicMonkey CollagefoodThen on to the main event, Yelp's Pool Party! Ron C from Philly coins it the "Saturday afternoon pool party of epic proportions." A private room adjacent to Harrah's 82 degree palm tree laden pool featuring a "top shelf open bar and a complete showing of the restaurants from all of the Harrah's properties." Some favorites include the "pork belly buns, shrimp sliders, sushi, tacos, cheesesteak dumplings" while Dan A found that "the most interesting dessert was the Buttered Popcorn with Bacon Caramel Crunch." Manhattanite Erin M gives big ups to East Coast Photo Booth for making it a "true Yelp event" by providing some "keepsakes for the road." PicMonkeypeopleLater that night for those still standing, everyone received free admission to The Pool After Dark. Even Jerseyan Tyler R, a self-proclaimed non club goer still said "it felt awesome to be on "the list" and cut 100+ people waiting to get in." We VIP at Yelp. We fancy.

Between all this boozing and eating, those who made it to brunch enjoyed discounts at local Harrah's restaurants Sammy D's and the Waterfront Buffet where Dave E from Jersey sums it up well: "Sunday Brunch was Bacon-glorious...so much damn bacon."

For the full gamut of reviews, or to pen your own, check it out here. Wanna see all the crazy pics? You can do that here

From the bottom of our lil' Yelpy hearts, thank you Harrah's Resorts and everyone who came out. We heart you!

LA West Elites Welcome Seasons 52

Posted by Brinny

The newest outpost of Sesaons 52 is big, bold and beautiful. More than 2,000 bottles of wine, a living herb garden, open kitchen and live music are just a few of the things that make this spot an oasis and the perfect location for this weeks LA West Elite event.

Seasons 52

An array of flatbreads welcomed 80 Elites along with an open bar featuring over 5 choices from their award winning wine list as well as a lemon verbana mojito with herbs locally sorced from their herb wall... So local the herbs were just feet away!

The healthy lifestyle concept is proud to serve only dishes under 475 calories. This was hard to believe when indulging in the Steak and Cremini Mushroom Flatbread with fresh spinach and Wisconsin blue cheese or the Garlic Chicken Flatbread with balsamic red onions, roasted red peppers and Mozzarella cheese.

Cristine Y noticed "The delicious flatbread that Seasons 52 just kept coming out platter after platter. I wonder if they were amazed at how fast the food went?"

Heavy passed appetizers included some Seasons 52 staples: spinach stuffed mushrooms, tuna tartare sushi rolls, lemongrass sea scallops and artichoke Parmesan crostinis were all light and flavorful.

Seasons 52 2

Alice C tells us: "The food was delicious all around. Seasons 52 offers menu items that do not exceed 470 calories (not that I care) but you can tell that every hors d'oeuvres was prepared with healthy ingredients that weren't heavy on the stomach nor your weight.  My favorites were the garlic chicken flat bread, lemongrass sea scallop, and spinach stuffed mushrooms."

The best part in Danielle D's opinion, "Dessert! Who can resist tiny shot glasses with huge flavors?  My husband loved the tropical cheesecake and I'll be back for the lemon tart. Yum."

Seasons 3

Amy C sums up the evening, "The event was awesome: the place was swanky & packed. I'm not sure why they hosted this event because it was clear they weren't desperate for patrons, but I'm not one to complain when fresh, delectable goodies are being shoved in my face all night. From start to finish, the event was flawless. Show up,  stake out a table, forge new Yelp friendships, eat tons of tapas, and enjoy a deliciously crisp drink."

A special thanks to the Seasons 52 staff, and i Heart Momo Photo Booth who were in tow with their awesome props!

Yelp's Late Night Burlesque Bonanza

Posted by Michelle C

On night one of Yelp's Winter Break: Atlantic City, Yelpers received the VIP treatment at Ivan Kane's Royal Jelly Burlesque Nightclub. After complimentary admission to the club, all Yelpers received a wristband which granted them access to two VIP areas, plus complimentary Absolut Vodka, Absolut Citron and Absolut Mandarin cocktails!

The libations were flowing and it wasn't long before everyone started grooving. With beats pumping hard and the added entertainment of scantily-clad dancers on catwalks overhead, Yelpers wasted no time showing off their moves on the stripper poles in VIP!

YEE Collage1 1:25:13After midnight, two burlesque shows hit the stage to the crowd's delight. Yelp Elite Tracey C was "ready for that jelly" and thought "the dancers were FANTASTIC!"

Huge thanks go out to Shannon Niland of Miss Niland Presents and all the staff at Ivan Kane's Royal Jelly Burlesque Nightclub who hosted us that evening! Don't forget to check out all of the photos from the event, and catch up on reviews from Yelp's Winter Break: Atlantic City!

What better way to celebrate the first Elite Event of 2013 than whiling away a cruisy afternoon at Cleveland’s Salon & Café, a super-relaxed, effortlessly awesome Surry Hills haven that dishes out classy haircuts and cracking coffees. From secret menu items like smashed banana pain au chocolates to a cheeky whisky with your beard trim, this joint is a damned easy place to keep coming back to.

Cleve1With Harry (ex-Porteno and Black Star) up front slinging brilliant barista coffees, London- and Paris-trained Pat manned the styling shears and got bizzay with touchups for lucky Yelpers, prompting Elite Peter C to get the haircut he’d needed all summer.

Cleve2Local heroes Harry’s Café de Wheels joined the party and ensured nobody went hungry with their signature organic pies topped with obligatory mushy peas along with their famous hot dogs. And some astute Yelpers took advantage of Cleveland’s connections and got their Hungry Monday on.

Cleve3The familiar faces of 2012 Elites got a chance to mingle with reps from the freshly-minted ’13 crop, with next weeks upcoming 80’s Yelper Party a hot topic of conversation.

As always, special thanks to Sam MacDonald Photography for providing the happy snaps of the night. Want more?

Yelp's Dinner You Can't Refuse @ Mio Posto

Posted by Drew

Sometimes you just need to sit down with some old friends and have a feast. Such was the scene at Mio Posto (whose motto is Our Place is Your Place...) on Thursday night, as 40+ Elite sat down together and did what Elite do best, eat! PJ R puts it best, "I can think of no better way to spend an evening! Bring a frend, make new friends, and eat and drink like family at Yelp's Dinner You Can't Refuse!" She continues, "The wine was flowing and the food kept coming! The waiters made sure that our plates were always clean and our glasses were always full. They were true professionals led by a personable manager who stopped by to ask us if we were enjoying the food and to make sure that we were happy."

Mio 2.jpg

As for the food, there were a selection of Italian favorites including stuffed mushrooms, potato croquettes, lamb chops, pasta and eggplant. The stand out for Asim F was the "out of this world" Chilean sea bass "which was cooked to perfection and served in a diced shrimp sauce. I'm a seafood fanatic and this dish is definitely a must-try! If that wasn't enough, dessert, yes three desserts were offered for each table, including a cannoli, napoleon and tartufo. The dessert too, was amazing."

Yelp Gets in Brooklyn's Belli!

Posted by peter d.

C1
Last night the best of Brooklyn Yelp beat it over to Belli, Fulton Street's brand-new Italian Osteria! The NYC Elites had a special treat with the one and only Jando S checking them in (and repping Queens, as always), and the night just got better from there.

C2
Since Belli Osteria is coming at you from the folks behind Piccoli Trattoria, it isn't surprising that the food is fantastic. Their philosophy of simplicity and quality shined through with beautiful bites like the roasted cherry tomatoes, homemade mozzarella with a basil oil. Ryan F reports that his "favorite was the braised short ribs over polenta...melt-in-your-mouth succulent." My personal choice would have to be the homemade gnocchi with the braised duck ragu; I'd probably fight you for it if necessary.

C3
Since Belli is figuring out its liquor situation (license approved and on the way!), BYO was the directive of the night. Yelpers waltzed in armed with all sorts of wine (sparkling and otherwise), beer, as well as some liquor sprinkled in (shout out to Rony M and his rum!). Since Brooklyn goes hard, Ron C swore, "I had to keep it real with my 40 and brown baggin' it all night. The only thing I was missing was a fat ass gold chain, a stoop and my boombox." That's how you know it's a party.

C4
A huge thanks to Andres, Kurt and the rest of the amazing and accommodating Belli staff for welcoming us with open arms (and juggling all of our wine bottles!). I'll see you guys there again soon for that gnocchi! Whether or not you made it out, make sure to check out all the reviews of the event, the photos from our pal Nelson, and what folks are saying.

Cheers,
Peter D and the rest of the Yelp NYC Team

NOLA Elites Get Drenched in Red at Saints and Sinners

Posted by Joi

We're in the midst of Carnival Season here in New Orleans, a festive time that is ripe with loads of libations and extreme merriment. Yelp NOLA offered up more of the same at our January Elite event at Saints and Sinners last week. It was like being back in Storyville. There was jazz. There was liquor. There was sin sin sin...

photos by Carolyn Turgeon

We harkened back those delicious decadent days, even if only in attitude and costume. Our Elites were all dressed up in the spirit of the event, leaving us all to ponder, saint or sinner?

There was tons of temptation this evening! In the gorgeously ornate VIP room upstairs, everyone sipped on decadent complimentary craft cocktails (Silk Panties, anyone?), as well as wine and beer. We indulged in crab cakes, fried cheese curds, beignet sticks, ratatouille, apricots stuffed with blue cheese and wrapped with bacon, Shrimp Creole, red beans & rice and Angus and pulled pork sliders.

Collage4.jpg

Many of us engaged in the "meet your saint" ice breaker and Saints and Sinners awarded the winners, Jen L and Re H, with $25 gift certificates to the club. It was great to see so many new Elites (and visiting ones, too!) at our first bash of the year! They were all welcomed into the fold with typical NOLA friendliness from our veterans. And who could resist throwing "Show us Your Yelps" beads off the balcony onto admirers below on Bourbon Street?

Collage5.jpg
Photos by Carolyn Turgeon

Thank you so much to Kurtz, Richard and Will, as well as the rest of phenomenal staff at Saints and Sinners who went above and beyond to make our group feel so welcome.

Check out the rave reviews... here's a bit from one of our favorites from Michelle B "This was my very first Elite Yelp event! Woohoo! I had such a good time I'm still kind of smiling thinking about it. Got to meet some of my favorite Yelpers and I can say for certain that I have found my tribe of food lovers!" Psssst. It's a regular peep show with rest of the pix on flickr!

So, who's a saint and who's a sinner? At this time of year, most of us are likely the latter (hey, there's plenty of time for Sainthood come February 13).

See you soon and Happy Mardi Gras!

Yelp's Winter Wine Down At 100 Wines Hillcrest

Rain, rain, go away... it was a Saturday afternoon in typically sunny San Diego and the Elite only guests were ready for a good time, sans rain! Mother Nature listened, the skies cleared and the Elite Squad filed through the cozy front doors of 100 Wines Hillcrest for Yelp's Winter Wine Down. The music was queued, the tables were set and the party was underway!

100winesheader
Greeted with a name badge, a lavender martini or a glass of wine, the crowd was able to shed their layers and cozy up throughout the entire restaurant and on the heated front and back patios. Chef Katherine Humphus and the staff of 100 Wines were seemingly everywhere! They were well-stocked and ready to hand over a Stone Arrogant Bastard, a glass of wine generously donated by Southern Wine & Spirits or a slice of their signature flatbread which the Elite Squad could not pull themselves away from. Uhhh, did somebody say flatbread?! Yep! A selection of five made their rounds and were loaded with as much creativity as they were flavor. Give these winning combonations a taste: Proscuitto, house made mozzarella and green grapes with a balsamic port reduction. Or how about grilled filet, toasted walnuts, arugula, garlic confit and blue cheese crema? Maybe some spanakopita, dill cream cheese, sauteed spinach, feta, fried egg and phyllo? Possibly pissaladiere, roasted tomato, black olives, fried capers, caramelized onions with white anchovies? Or dive into the marinara, provolone, mozzarella, parmesan, basil, pecorino, seasoned ricotta and oregano... you now have permission to wipe the drool from your chin.

100winessecond
The cozy back patio quickly turned into the hub of the action and served as the perfect setting to mingle and gather around the fireplace. Once again the staff made their way through the crowd bearing delicious gifts to the delight of the guests. The cream of mushroom soup shooters with basil and grissini were an absolute hit and several Elites admitted to going back for seconds, thirds and even fourths. Hey, when it's good, it's good! There were also three stations strategically placed throughout 100 Wines all overflowing with "help yourself" bites and nibbles. We aren't talking run of the mill cheese and crackers here, friends... we're getting the good stuff! Hummus, mixed olive tapenade and pappadam. Whipped goat cheese with fennel lavender dust, foccacia and broken pistachios. And finally local meatmen charcuterie with sono trading co. mustard, sadie rose cracker bread and local accoutrements.

100winesthird
Yes, we hear you! So much food and so much drink, but why stop there? The answer is simple: The day would not be complete without dessert and a massage, that's why! The pistachio apricot baklava rounded out the feast while the gentle and friendly hands from Pure Spa and Chiropractic worked their muscle easing magic at not one, but two massage stations on the back patio. Elite members signed up at the station and were then able to spend a few relaxing moments receiving a back/neck massage from an expert masseuse. Each heavenly five-minute massage was followed with a fifteen-dollar spa credit,, which could be used on any of the treatments listed at their Tierrasanta location. Now that is what we call a great way to "wine down" in 2013.

100winesbottom
A big thank you goes out to David and Lesley Cohn and everyone in front of and behind the scenes at 100 Wines Hillcrest, Dr Russell and the Pure Spa and Chiropractic team and Southern Wine & Spirits for treating the San Diego Elite Squad to a Saturday afternoon of food, wine, wellness, relaxation, and friendship. The Waterman Seafood Grill suffered a blow with Hurricane Ike in 2008, but in May 2012, they finally reopened their doors and this time – they're back and better than ever. In conjunction with Galveston.com and Galveston Restaurant Week, the Yelp Elite Squad headed to The Waterman Seafood Grill for a waterfront beach bash unlike any other!

Waterman
Elites were treated to a spread of bacon wrapped "Shrimp Kisses," giant boudin balls, crab cakes, lobster bique and gumbo, chicken picatta – and not to mention a bar featuring their famous French Martini, margaritas, cold beer ... cheers to that. Along with top-notch friendly service, yelpers enjoyed the beautiful sunset from atop the massive Waterman Seafood deck overlooking Lake Como. The pictures are stunning! Juerga Animal @ Sargantana

All animals escaped from the fold, ran away from the farm and left the cages arriving in a non-stop race to the restaurant Sargantana, turned into a big jungle full of the most bizarre species of the natural world. Lizards, a “local” cow and its udders, zebras, tigers, snakes… even the Hootsuite bird, a fallero mussel and a dark bat, were waiting impatiently outside the monstrous charming venue, awaking the attention of every living being passing by on the street. What was being cooked inside the place made all creature instincts appear, as Gonzalo M said “a name and a Twitter nick was the only requirement to get through the doors and get all flashes on you from Fran’s camera, just as if you were in Hollywood itself”. The animal party was just ready to kick in Valencia!

  Collage3

It was clear that the fragrances from Juanra’s appetizers (Sargantana owner) made salivate to the last fly! Meanwhile, among skins and lianas, wild animal cavity stomachs were searching for reinvigorating liquids. Bodegas Vereda Real gifted the most curious palates with white, rosé and red amazing valencian “excellent” wines, as Samuel M could test, and made with fruits pulled out straight from our vineyards. We had the chance to learn from Jesús and Pedro’s knowledege all details in that process. Then Ana, from Los Bigudíes de Rubíes hairdresser shop, showed some of her products and offered a beauty service in its business as a prize to the winner of one of the night games! 5 stars in Yelp go to Paz Nm, who perfectly explained the games to all the guests with an enormous smile (the only thing not camouflaged in her dress). So, wines up cheep down, María P claimed that all Yelpers “met again and there were many, many new faces even testing the capacity of the place!

Collage4

But there still was a lot of way to trot during the night… Pan Creativo Artesano, with its owner Fernando, presented artisan lovely bread with amazing textures and mixtures such as squid ink, Pedro Ximénez flavour, spelt flour with linseeds and sunflower seed baguettes. We saw canines and tusks chewing with quite energy everywhere! Eventually, as a dessert Las Galletas de Marta, delicious and perfectly decorated with love and effort, lasted just a few minutes in most of the four-footed animal snouts. Don’t even mention that beasts are not sweet! Little by little, all those enjoyments started softening the evening while the musicians got ready to calm down the pride. Two wild cats (recently escaped) began the show miaowing for a while, and then Alameda choir tried, with their voices and piano, to make the herd enjoy the music of varied works. "It was a wise choice to make the singers appear among the guests!exclaimed María G

Collage6
All this savage madness didn’t stop for two hours, and we have to thank that to all our sponsors of the night: Sargantana, Pan Creativo Artesano, Bodegas Vereda Real, Los Bigudíes de Rubíes and Las Galletas de Marta. Also thank you to Alameda choir for the musical note, to Toni H for guarding the stable door with happiness and to María G for the wonderful design of the party’s poster, we’ll put it in a frame for the memory! And speaking about memories… we can’t say goodbye without thanking all the splendid work to the decorator and photographer of the night, Fran de Sousa. Don't miss his great pictures and Yelper’s reviews from the event!

Apparently, no animal seemed to escape without a big smile on its snout…

Yelp Leeds Meets The Owner: Outlaws Yacht Club!

Posted by Rowena Harris

We all know Leeds is packed with awesome independents, but it's what's going on behind the scenes that makes a place really stand out. So, where does one go to seek out serene sups, easy ales, and eclectic events? Read on, as this week we're getting up close and personal to proudly introduce Joe G of Outlaws Yacht Club, in our first 'Meet The Owner' blog post!

Rowena: So, what's OYC all about?
Joe: We just wanted a space to hang out, be creative, listen to music and meet like minded people: a social club for creatives and outlaws, serving good quality food, cake, coffee, and drink.

OYC1
Rowena:
Creatives and outlaws – sounds like yelpers! What is it that makes you guys stand out?
Joe: We've a very relaxed environment for people to come and work on our free wi-fi, join a social club, enjoy some great art... and listen to some of the world's best DJs, playing on a vintage 70s soundsystem!

OYC2
But what do the yelpers think of OYC? It's 'the perfect chill out venue for a lazy afternoon,' according to Graham J, who can't get enough of the 'great coffee, cake, and games.' If you need to escape the weather, 'the stew is homely and warming. Throw into the mix some unusual beers' and you're set for the night. Want entertainment? Joseph C recommends the 'poetry evenings, games nights, low key music events and even Scalextric racing!' With something for everyone, from quizzes to crafty clubs, just call them Jack and Master of happenings.

OYC3
Rowena: And lastly, where do you guys go when you're not behind the bar?
Joe: Other places we like hanging out are Bird's Yard, The Reliance, Cosmic Slop, and Wharf Chambers.

And they're not the only fans of these places. Natalie O always finds it 'necessary to refuel with a cup of tea in quaint old cups,' at Bird's Yard, and Vicky R regularly sources 'unique veggie options' at The Reliance. If you're after a 'proper little find', Ben H recommends the Space Raiders at Wharf Chambers!

Rowena:
Anything more to add about OYC?
Joe: Yes – we're family friendly!

Pop in and point the kids at their graffiti wall, or even the magic till, to see what they mean...

Need an excuse?

- Tuesday pub quiz, 8pm

- Yarnia, every other Tuesday knitting social

- Joe's Bakery, Belearic beats and cosmic curveballs

Yelp London Sees The Future @ Broadway House Members Club

Posted by Alex Shebar

Main

What do you see in store for 2013? If it’s anything like the night London Yelpers had then it’s full of amazing food, crafted cocktails, great entertainment and the best company in the city.

Making their way through Fulham to find the near-secret entrance of Broadway House Members Club, guests enjoyed a night of fun at the Sweet New Yelp Event, the first Elite party of the new year.

“What a fantastic event! Looking forward to what London CM Alex has planned for the rest of the year. If they're all like this, the year will be epic!” Grant M exclaimed.

Atmopshere

Passing the red Yelp Balloons and making their way to the second floor, a spacious wooden lounge area complete with leather seats and a long bar, yelpers were greated at the door with tastes of delicious bites from the members club.

“Broadway House is such a fantastic location and they really know what they are doing in terms of smoking hot cocktails and delicious canapes. Those mushroom arrancini balls were incredible. And I do love chorizo!” Linzi M told us between bites.

Tarot

On the floor below, in the mood-lit restaurant area of the club, the future was being unveiled. Two amazing tarot card readers from Treadwell’s Bookshop in Bloomsbury were telling what was to come for guests - the great Diana Taylor and Michelle Chaso saw what the cards has in store for those who sat at their table.

“Yes, it was time I sought a bit of divination to answer this important, life-altering question. Fortunately, the first Yelp event of the new year included the magic of tarot card reading,” Kerrin R proclaimed. “I was sure to discover the answer at this event.”

Anything else, Kerrin?

“Oh, but gazing into the future must only be done with a futuristic cocktail - one that bubbles and spews smoke down the glass as if to signify the dreamlike state of clairvoyance.” Yes, the great Broadway House bartenders mixed up amazing drink concotions – some that bubbled, some that tasted like Rasperry Yogurt and all that were delicious.

Drinks

“This was my first event in the UK and it was a great start to many more events to come I'm sure! Our hosts at Broadway House were excellent, stirring up drinks pretty much for two hours straight. The bites were tasty and sufficient so that everyone got a taste,” Elizabethe A wrote. “I love these intimate events. I met a ton of new people, explored a new place, and will definitely be keeping up my yelping here in London!”

But don’t just take our word for it. But don’t just take our word for it. You can read all the reviews right here as well as check out all the pics by Jason Ellis on the Official Yelp Flickr Page.

We predict only amazing things for the rest of the year.

South Bay Elites Have a House Party @ DirectBuy!

Posted by Abby Schwarz

South Bay's most recent House Party @ DirectBuy reminded us all that Yelp is all about connecting people with great local businesses, not just restaurants! Thanks to DirectBuy of Silicon Valley for inviting a select group of Elites to take a sneak peek inside their members-only facility and throwing a remarkable shindig...

House Party Collage 1
What is DirectBuy? This is where you will find the #1 way in North America to buy virtually everything for your home. Whether you are looking for custom cabinetry, high-end appliances, windows and doors, plumbing products or anything related, they have it. When you join DirectBuy, you become a member of a club that is 400,000 members strong. This strength means that you gain exclusive access to confidential insider pricing from hundreds of the most trusted manufacturers in the US and Canada. Mark and Paul, current owners have been here in the Bay Area for the past six years and previously spent 9 years with DirectBuy in the Chicago area. This experience means that they understand what it takes to run a successful membership club.

Admittedly, DirectBuy here in Silicon Valley doesn't have the most positive Yelp reviews. And the whole purpose of them hosting a Yelp event was to gain insight into the social media savvy customers out there... Who better to invite than the South Bay Elite Squad, our most active contributors on and offline? With a little help from Michi's CateringBartenders Unlimited, a few VIP DirectBuy members and a little creativity, this private showroom was turned into a house party!

House Party Collage 2
Michi's set up shop in high end kitchen, whipping up teriyaki ribs, hand rolls, mango salad, gyoza and sushi bar... just to name a few tasty items! Anson W "loved the pork ribs, which were so tender that they fell off the bone with every bite! A close second were the spicy crab hand rolls - OM NOM NOM! The sushi quesadilla, mango salad and crab cakes were also appreciated." Plus, "Bartenders Unlimited provided exceptional service and kept the drinks flowing without a hitch, exclaimed Elizabeth S.

Guests sampled the food and drink while meeting other DirectBuy members, consulting the in-house design staff and playing a "Price Is Right" game with select showroom merchandise. Elites who came closest to guessing the DirectBuy price on these items were personally awarded gift certificates to local restaurants by Owners Mark and Paul. Both of them were on-hand to mingle with Yelp attendees and bunk any misconceptions about the level of service they provide! To Janet O, "the owners of Direct Buy made a great impression. Mark made fun of his business's rating online and proceeded with the result of the game. Any guy who can laugh at himself and poke jokes at his own expense is a-okay in my book :)"

House Party Collage 3
Alyx F "found the DirectBuy staff to be incredibly honest, kind and informative. They definitely helped me learn more about what they do, and I am seriously considering them as an option for when I purchase a home! I wasn't entirely sure what to expect coming to this event since it seemed a little sales-y to me, but it was an absolute blast.  The food, drinks and DirectBuy staff were incredible. Who doesn't love sushi, cocktails, wine and home decor?" Likewise Emmalouise B thought the house party was "perfect for both me and Hubby as we're in the process of buying a house and the advice and tips from the staff was so helpful." Mission accomplished!!!

Thank you, DirectBuy for opening up your doors to meet the Yelp Elites! We all had a fanatstic time and learned more about your business. But don't take my word for it... Read the 5-star event reviews  and Waitman Gobble's photos on Flickr.

Until our next Elite Event, SYOY!

Going for Gold with a special Elite tasting at SeaLegs Wine Bar in Huntington Beach

Posted by Ryan C.

Gold Elites new and old were spoiled silly this past Tuesday with a special four-course-tasting and wine pairing courtesy of SeaLegs Wine Bar in Huntington Beach.

GoldBadgers
During the two-hour event, the guests of honor were treated to charcuterie plates, bruschetta, flatbreads (shrimp and chorizo & pig and fig), sliders (bleu cheese, sausage and pulled pork) and an order of stinky fries to fill their bellies. Grace C loved the dessert finale saying "the carrot cake was probably the best thing of the night! They came out in little petite cupcake form with cream cheese frosting and they were SUPER moist and very tasty." We couldn't agree more.

FoodForThought
Though it might have been a repeat visit for some, first-timer Traci L states "I don't know why it took me going to a Yelp event to check out SeaLegs, but I know I will be back!"

"Luckily, I got confirmation to attend my first YEE of the year, which also happened to be my first SF event ever. Boom. Review #200 worthy material! So what do you get when you combine great company and tons of one of my favorite things in life, DUNGENESS CRAB? A crackin' party, if I do say so myself (HA. Crackin'. Crab. I'm funny). We drank, we laughed, we shoved seafood into our faces. How could you not have a good time? Impossible, I say. Immmmmmpossible. I have to admit, I was a little nervous at first. I mean, I was on unfamiliar territory... And +1less, at that! But SF Elites made me feel completely at home." -- Vi T

"I love exclusive events for Yelp Elites only because it makes it much easier to meet people and talk to other fellow Yelpers!" -- Tiffany D

Yelp Miami Knows Where The Girls Are

Posted by Johnny Todd

GIRLS...just want to have fun and they did just that at the first MYE (Media Yelp Event) of 2013. Over 200 Yelper's — girls and guys — arrived at the Viceroy Hotel in Brickell and took the elevator 50 floors straight up to the newly-remodeled FIFTY Ultra Lounge for a sneak peek at season two of HBO's hit show, GIRLS. With gorgeous bird's eye views of Miami, a beautiful outside terrace and pool equipped with TVs, a DJ and dance floor, delicious bites, and flowing booze it became the ultimate watch party.

-14

Before the back-to-back episodes of the Golden Globe-winning GIRLS aired, Yelper's were treated to mini spicy tuna cones, skirt steak skewers, caramelized grapefruit, braised pork belly, chickpea falafel, and ceviche. 'Girl'-friendly libations included red and white wine and a variety of beers. A few lucky raffle winners won fabulous GIRLS prize packs including season one DVDs, tote bags, nail decals, blanket, and snacks to munch on at home while watching the show. Thanks to StudioBooth, Yelper's got a lasting memory of their New Year's resolutions. They stepped in the booth to get their photo taken and then had their resolutions super imposed over their poses and smizes. A couple of those resolutions were broken, though, when the dessert plates were brought out filled with carrot cake, red velvet and peanut butter cupcakes, macaroons, and lemon powder puffs! Phenom photog Alex Gort was also on hand to provide photos of the event that you can find here. Take a gander at what guests had to say here.

Phoenix Elites Screw Their Resolutions at Searsucker

Posted by Lindsey Fosse

The 2013 Yelp Elite Squad kicked off the new year by screwing their resolutions at Searsucker Scottsdale with ABC's The Taste & Miami's Top Chef, Brian Malarky! Dressed in their finest seersucker attire, Elites and their guests enjoyed a night complete with several food stations, a multitude of craft cocktails, a DJ and a photo opp with celebrity chef, Brian Malarky!

Collageone

On a clear desert night, Elites and their guests walked into Searsucker and were immediately greeted with a craft cocktail to kick-off the night. Pieces of seersucker fabric were hidden throughout the restaurant, so while Yelpers sipped on their cocktails, they collected the stray pieces of fabric in hopes of winning a prize!

Cocktails

Searsucker pulled out all the stops and made sure no Yelper left hungry thanks to the three food stations featuring Baby Tomahawks, a Pig Stuffed Pig, and a giant charcuterie board that the chef replenished throughout the night. But that's not all! Besides the food stations, servers walked around all night long with platters of shrimp and grits, Searsucker's famous fried brussels sprouts, sandwiches and red velvet cupcakes!

Food2

Since it was the first Elite event of the new year, Yelpers had a lot of catching up to do and luckily Searsucker was on hand to quench their thirst with three featured craft cocktails: the Peter Rabbit with Pimms #1 and homemade basil lemonade, the Lt. Dan with house infused tea vodka and lemonade, and the Latin Cinema with butter popcorn tequila.

Brian

A special thank you goes out to Searsucker and their staff for hosting such a superb evening, Dustin Perrotti for photographing the event and to all the Elites and their guests who attended. Don't forget to take a look at the reviews and pictures!

Until next time,

LA West Elite's Get Raw At M.A.K.E

Posted by Brinny

Raw food chef and author, Matthew Kenney was personally there to welcome over 50 Elites to his new restaurant M.A.K.E in Santa Monica. Located adjacent a state-of-the-art raw food culinary school, Kenney gave the Elites a tour of the facility and then sat them down for a tasting style dinner of organic raw food. No one knew raw food could be so gourmet, delicious and artistic.

This family style fête started with Muhumara, Sesame Tabouli, Za'atar Crackers. Organic and biodynamic wines were flowing and yelpers got to mix and mingle. Ej F declares, "This was one of the best humus dishes I've ever had!"

We moved into a Wild Arugala, Fuyu Persimmon, Pistachio. This was many Elites favorite dish of the night! Kelly B exclaims, "Wow. This stole the show for me, and I am not a fan of arugula at all. But the unique rich flavor of the persimmon with the salty pistachio cream was heaven."

California Kale, Blood Orange, Sun Dried Olives, Wild Dulse, Spice Almonds was light and refreshing. Market Lasagna, Zucchini, Macadamia, Santa Barbara Pistachio, Basil was such a hit. No one missed the cheese or the meat. Kelly B was thrilled, "Winner! The lasagna was fabulous! I didn't even notice the lack of pasta, and pasta is my favorite food. It was bursting with fresh flavors, and I adored the marinara sauce and the creamy nut cheese with it. Will come back for this alone!" The lasagna is their signature dish and now we know why!

The Nori roll was another hit shares Julie R, "It was by far my favorite dish of the night. They replaced the rice with grated jicama. How creative is that? Loved! So delish. I wanted more!"

Food at make

A few more dishes to finish the night off: Flatbread, Zucchini Hummus, Jewel Box Tomatoes, Fennel, Capers, Mint. Wild Mushroom Tacos, Mole, Almond Crema, Red Chili Avocado. And of course, we couldn't leave without dessert! Mini Chocolate Walnut Cake, Licorice Pear, Fennel, Sassafras. And a Passionfruit, Honey, Melon Sorbet, White Chocolate, Berries and Lemon Balm.

More food make

Jessica S describes the food at M.A.K.E perfectly: "I have one word to describe the food: exquisite. It's not a word I use often, but it's the best way to describe each of the dishes here.  I have eaten at other raw food restaurants, and they sometimes add so many ingredients to so many dishes, that it is a mish-mash of flavors, and everything ends up tasting the same. Each dish here was intentionally and masterfully created to make sure that flavors were able to shine through and compliment each other, in a way that made each dish unique.  Fantastic attention to detail, and very innovative. On top of that, each dish was artfully presented on large, white dishes that really showcase the vibrant color that you get when you keep your food raw.  Each course was like a modern art palette." See all reviews here!

Guests at make

Ej F sums up the evening, "I really appreciate the diversity of food I get exposed to at Yelp Elite events, thank you LA West Elite crew. I am a carnivore but I enjoyed raw food! Owner, chef and author Matthew Kenney was there and he invited us into the academy prep area where he teaches raw food classes to domestic and international students. He set the tone for a great event by describing his background and philosophy for the food he serves."

Until next time,

Keep it raw!

Yelp Pittsburgh Pushes out the Welcome Wagon for 2013!

Posted by Rachel Carlson

Talk about ushering in the New Year with a bang... Yelp Pittsburgh did it with style and class at the ultrasleek Up Modern Italian last Thursday for Yelp's 2013 Welcome Wagon Elite Event.

Up Food
It may have been a cold winter evening, but that didn't stop the more than 70 Elites and guests from venturing to Shadyside to get cozy in their swanky bar area. "I really like that the bar had cute glass canisters full of cocktail garnishes in plain view" recalled Carrie L. "It kept things bright, colorful and fun. The Pomegranate Lemonade wasn't very sweet, but much more tart which made it right up my alley!" Along with the lemonade guests indulged in the Shady Mule, their version of a Moscow Mule, that was perfectly complimented by Pittsburgh's own White Diamond Vodka. Up Drinks
As the guests were filing in, the food was coming out with an assortment of Charcuterie boards, beef jerky, ricotta fritters, arrancinni, fricos and one of the Burgh foodies favorites, dippy egg... which "which posed some dining etiquette challenges" for Laura T, but she happily dove in anyway! Elizabeth B "only has a few foods on my comfort food list, but after tonight, I can add their Wild Mushroom Risotto. It was warm, smooth, and creamy, perfectly complemented by the mushrooms. I can imagine begging my husband to drive here after I've had a bad day just to get me some of this stuff." Think that was all? No way! "The olives were staring at" Aja J like "little meaty eyeballs pleading for redemption from the bowl. I tried one. Amazing. Another. Unbelievable. Before I knew it, a heap of pits adorned my napkin and I was officially in love." Mi Amore!

Up Peope
Gary R sums it up best when he says: "There was a perceptible energy that filled the space coupled with a certain buzz which made it feel even more electric. Could have been the infusion of new Elites, everyone still on a Holiday season high, or just that we're all ready for a reason to get out and start the Yelp year." Cheers to that my friend!

A big thank you to the Up Modern Italian, Owner Gregg Caliguiri, Chef Eric Wallace, GM Lauren Edinger and the amazing staff for treating Yelpers to such an amazing evening! Also, thanks to Ray Miles Creative for the fab photo's that you can check out here. And last, but certainly not least, thanks to White Diamond Vodka for providing the fantastic vodka.

If you want to catch more of the event buzz, hop over to the event listing to read all about the excitement from your fellow yelpers.

Yelp GTA Welcomes The Class of 2013 @ G Bistro + Patio

Posted by Kris

Greater Toronto Area Elites have got it bad, so bad, they're hot for Elite Events (and teacher)! On Sunday night Yelp Elite Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors alike gathered in Vaughan for their first day of class at the Welcome Back Elite Class of 2013 @ G Bistro + Patio Elite event.

Collage 1

Arriving promptly at the sound of the 7PM bell (and in full uniform), yelpers entered G Bistro + Patio where they found a selection of beers provided by Mill St. Brewery and Steam Whistle Brewery flowing like wine. "Mill Street brewery was awesome, I loved the doppel Pilsner and the Belgian style ales. Thanks to Steam Whistle brewery as well whose pilsner is always a hit" raved Sami E. Speaking of Wine, if superb suds weren't enough Elites were also treated to an exclusive selection of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Grigio compliments of Lifford Wine & Spirits.

Collage 2

After getting in a bevie or two, Yelpers were privy to a seemingly endless sample of G Bistro's delicious menu. Chicken-Peanut Satay Skewers, Chipotle Pulled Pork Sliders, Coconut Shrimp, Calamari and more and more - not your typical brown bagged lunch! Henry P adds "The pepper fries, shrimp fritters, chicken skewers and the pork and beef sliders were ridiculously good!"

Collage 3

While the food and drink was flowing, Yelp GTA got the fun times going. A Check-In offer which taught Elites a new super-secret-school-yard-handshake (the GTA-5), and smooth Saxophone Jazz sounds filled the room compliments of local artist Igor Babich, all gave the night a fun-classy appeal. But the highlight of the evening came in the form of the nights icebreaker, which had Elites and their guests introducing themselves to one another in an effort to "Steal yo' Lunch Money." Competition got tight but in the end 3 lucky Elites scored opening night tickets to the Port Credit Comedy Festival.

Collage 4

Elites were reason for the back to class season and as always a big thank you goes out to those uniform clad folks – The GTA Elite Squad. Last but certainly not least, huge thank you goes out to Catch Photo (our very own Edwin A) for stepping up and providing amazing photos of the event!

Check out the pics here and be sure to peep the reviews here.

Beer: It's What's for Breakfast in South Bay

Posted by Abby Schwarz

What's better than rolling out of bed and heading straight to a Yelp Elite Event on a Sunday morning? Rolling out of bed and heading straight to a Yelp Elite event serving gourmet sausages and craft beer of course! South Bay and Peninsula Elites were recently treated to pajama party of epic proportions with Beerunch! @ Original Gravity Public House.

Beerunch collage 1
Downtown San Jose's first craft beer bar, Original Gravity's mission is to scour the globe and bring to the area an eclectic and quality beer selection. The Public House is an intimate space built to feature our craft beers on 25 rotating taps along with an impressive bottle list. For our particular event, OG featured for different "tastings" (which were pretty close to full pours): Oskar Blues Mama's Little Yella Pils, Allagash White, Avery IPA and Deschutes Obsidian Stout. As brew aficionado Mikey U so eloquently said, "The beer selection was an on-point escalation from crisp lighter beer to Belgian wheat to an IPA and concluding with a hearty stout. A well rounded flight; accessible enough to initiate the uninitiated and chased enough to please the versed beer enthusiasts." And in case we had guests that weren't beer drinkers, bottomless mimosas with mango Tampico were also available to Elites.

On to the eats! Gourmet sausages and duck fat fries with truffle salt were on the menu for this particular YEE, a perfect pairing at11:30 am. "Absolutely delicious, said Michelle K.  "I only tasted one during the event, so I stayed a bit longer and got the Boudin. 'Twas lovely. A side of duck fat fries with a mixture of bbq and wasabi mayo really complemented the meal.  (Yes, it sounds like an odd combo, but man is it tasty.)" Kes D "was also happy to have a chance to talk to the folks who works there about where they get their sausages and the fact that they have vegetarian options. Oh yeah... Their fries are like crack. And those Yelp Life fingerless gloves are perfect for keeping your hands warm while you stuff your face with sausage."

Beerunch collage 2

The Yelp portion of the party concluded at 1:30 pm, but a more than a handful of guests stuck around for some Sunday funday. "Kuddos to the OGPH staff for being totally welcoming and super awesome party hosts," cheered Cristal C. "Yelp Elite Event + my new favorite kick it spot = Sunday morning epicness!" Sarah H called the shindig "Beerunchaful!! Loved loved this event especially after a rocking the Niners game from the day before! I enjoyed my time there and the owners were pretty awesome, friendly, and approachable! I will be coming back again with friends next week to taste more of the beers they have!" Hopefully we'll see you at OG Public House again!

Distinguished Yelpers donned their shiny new badges and their finest duds to celebrate their induction into the 2013 Northern Virginia Elite Squad at Yelp's 2013 Inaugural Bash!

Guests were hosted in an intimate glass-walled building at the brand new Mosaic Center with a backdrop of lit trees and the dark, starry sky. "The glass area definitely got the attention of bystander's prying eyes. Who's inside? What are they doing? I felt special for being one of the few chosen ones to party it up," Kat V reports.

1

Ah Love Oil & Vinegar, a specialty food shop provided an array of treats such as dark chocolate balsamic drizzled strawberries,  lemon pound cake with citrus vinegar, homemade parmesan crisps, and spicy chocolate and roasted olive oil bites. Elites gave five-stars to the cocktail concoction of the night - - Prosecco with a Honey and Citrus Balsamic Vinegar. "I didn't say no to anything last night!" Elain X confesses.

Vive la France! ...a Milano

Posted by Claudia R

Auriane3_original
Come?

-------

If you ever thought it was impossible to have France in the middle of Milan... well, it isn't! Yesterday night La Crêperie d'Auriane hosted the first Yelp Elite Event of the year. Between Kir and galettes, we had a terrific aperitivo! Our pictures and tips artists made their best in order to win two tickets for the Sound&Comfort Winter Festival and soon the winner will be cherished on our Forum! In the meantime, old and new Yelpers mixed cheerfully, lavishly eating what Auriane, Antonia and Andrea prepared for us. Ticks or treats? It doesn't matter, when you win the Best Revie Oscar of the month, like Piero V, or the trophy for the most nominated to the Oscars, like Vincenzo M (7 times!) or, last but not least, the cup for the most prolific writer Alex X (50 reviews in one day). Moreover... surprise, surprise: I announced my wedding with Fabiano R!

Orlando Elite Sunday Funday @ The Orlando Magic Game

Posted by Colleen Burns

For Orlando's first Elite event of 2013 we kicked it off in true Orlando style and celebrated with a Sunday Funday at a Magic Game! This was the quickest elite event to fill up in Orlando in our three years of gathering offline. It was a very HOT ticket.

"This was my first visit to the Amway Center, let alone my first Magic game. I think I can officially declare myself a Magic fan after all of the fun I had at the game." - Kim W

The Orlando Magic Mission Statement is: To be world champions on and off the court, delivering legendary moments every step of the way. Come experience the '12-'13 Orlando Magic in their home 2012's Sports Facility of the Year: Amway Center and one of the most technologically advanced venues in the world!

The-bokeh-studio-yelp-elite-orlando-magic-9406

The elite yelpers raised over $300 to support the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation (OMYF). This is a fabulous non-profit cause and the Orlando Magic is committed to helping children in Central Florida realize their full potential, especially those most at risk, by supporting programs and partnerships that empower families and change lives.

We began with a personal tour of the entire Amway Center and learned so much about each and every detail that went into crafting this amazing entertainment center. The art is a huge piece of the decor; The collection includes more than 340 works of art, including 14 of the 21 artists housed in the collection represent Central Florida. The Amway Center Art Collection includes over 140 pieces of fine art paintings and mixed media originals, over 200 photographs, and graphic wall treatments highlighting both the Orlando Magic and the spirit of Orlando and Central Florida.

We were spoiled with court-side seats for team warm-up. Not something you normally get to see, the players were shooting around and getting in the correct mindset for the game. Just to step on the floor was a true treat.

"Getting a bountiful buffet prepared by Jernigan's Restaurant run by the Levy group. They must have known Yelper's come armed with an appetite, so, they replenished their offerings several times. Nice. The Braised Short Rib Quesadilla had a spicy kick from the sriracha sauce. Good hot wings, too." - Brandi B

There was an array of their signature "hotdog" panini with Jack cheese, caramelized onion and ground mustard, Mini "Church Street" Braised Short Rib QuesadillaBasil-garlic shrimp satay with chili lime mint sauce, Big Blue TacosMini Magic BurgersArtisan Cheese Board accompanied by assorted house-made chutneys, local honeys, artisan breads and crackers and topped it off with a Chef's selection of gourmet desserts.Did you know you can book a group event or meeting at the Amway Center including an array of delicious food our group had at the game from Levy Restaurants? Check out all of the details here

PicMonkey Collage3

After we stuffed our faces and checked out Jernigans, we made our way to our Club Level seating to enjoy the game. It was Stuff's birthday and Sunday Family day so there was tons of excitement throughout the entire game. We may have fallen to the Mavs this day but the effort put forth by our Orlando Magic was memorable.

"Love the gift bags and the hospitality of the Amway Center team. They were very professional and very help." - Randy H.  PicMonkey Collage2

"One thing that struck me as we made our way around the facility was how friendly and helpful the regular staff members were that we encountered. When we asked questions they were quite willing and able to answer. If I heard it once, I heard it no less than 10 times, to enjoy myself - ushers, vendors, bartenders all. It really added to the experience." - Mimi G.

Want more Orlando Magic excitement? Yelp has a special offer for upcoming games. Save on additional charges and us code: MAGIC. Check out the games here

Huge shout out to The Bokeh Studio who joined us to catch our journey through photographs. Check them out for your next event you want to remember! Follow them on Facebook and check out all the photos of the event here

A Night With the Creator of America's Best Ice Cream

Posted by Christina C.

They say good things come to those who wait, and for months – no, years – Columbus Elites have dreamt of the day when they get the founder of America's best ice cream all to themselves – well, it finally came!

Yelp Elites in Columbus were treated to an evening in the presence of Jeni Britton Bauer – founder and face of the famed, Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams!Jenis

Yelp's Special Scoop Elite Event offered the chance for nearly 40 Columbus Elites – including those who completed the "Yelp 100 in 2012 Challenge" – to enjoy an endless sampling of more than 30 delicious Jeni's flavors, a sneak-peek tasting of a soon-to-be released flavor and an exclusive Q&A session with Columbus's sweetheart, with all questions submitted by the Elites themselves. Greg W gushes: "Seriously though, I could've listened to Jeni talk for abours about her business and where her inspirations and passions come from. Especially if I could keep sampling! This is a woman with a love for what she does, and the courage to throw caution to the wind and run with it." Well said!

Jenis 2
Jeni's also donated three gift bags with the recently released "Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at Home" cookbook, and a few other items. Elites were able to enter a drawing to win by posting a 'quick tip' using their Yelp mobile app and uploading at least five photos of the event, totaling a whopping 70+ yelper photos added!
Jenis 3
"I would give this event 10 stars if I could," delcares Bryant M. But since you can't, feel free to read the rest of his (and others') reviews here!

This event could not have been possible without the help of the ever amazing Jeni's staff who helped pull everything together, so a massive THANKS goes to each one of them as well!

If the photos above aren't enough to make you wish you were there, perhaps the rest of the amazing pics found here might?! Rose DeVore did a tremendous job of capturing the evening and really dipicting how fantastic the night was on camera.

Huge thanks to Jeni, the Clintonville Jeni's staff, the Jeni's marketing team, and of course the Columbus Elites for making this event so memorable.

Cheers!

Sacramento's Elite Geeks Let Their Freak Flags Fly!

Posted by Alex L

Yelp elite nerds were out in full force last Saturday for a massively memorable “Yelp Freaks & Geeks” Elite event at Hacker Lab. Our guests are apparently dweebs at heart, as most had little trouble dressing up (or down) to fit the role. With a seemingly endless supply of beer, wine, tequila and pizza, this was one geek party the jocks only wish they were invited to!

Untitled
The whole shebang took place at Hacker Lab, a self-described "tech-hacking and knowledge sharing space" where entrepreneurs can rent offices and proudly show off their nerdy colors. The spacious setting was highlighted by an expert lighting scheme from Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, a whiteboard wall for guest graffiti, and a large wall screen and lounge chairs where elites could play any number of throwback Atari games from Pitfall to Pong!

_SSV7114_8401330166_l
Like any horribly good office party, it all comes down to the booze. Kona Brewing Co. donated a generous supply of Kona Longboard Lager, Firerock Pale Ale, Big Wave Golden Ale, and their Aloha Series, which Ida H describes as “truly unique and distinctly different, all hand crafted, based in Hawaii, and all with the proud distinction of remaining environmentally friendly.” Donovan H’s “personal favorite” libation came from Tanteo Tequila, who featured their organic, jalapeno-infused tequilas. “It was a perfect mix with the fruit punch they were offering.” And let’s not forget the winos, who all had their fill of Cabernet Sauvignon from Robert Mondavi.

Untitled2

After snorting over the chemical composition of their libations, our resident freaks turned to the plethora of pizza pies from Uncle Vito’s Slice of NY. “I came to the event with a semi-full stomach yet still found myself snatching up a slice of pizza every time I went for a Kona refill,” admits Cindy S. “The pizza and beer complimented each other well. I liked the pizza, so it's more than likely I'll stop in and try some of Uncle Vito's other selections soon!”

_SSV6889_8401288912_l
The night capped off with a contest for best nerd costume of the night measured by audience applause. Winner Jackie F took home a $50 gift certificate to The Melting Pot courtesy of Yelp’s partnership with Dine Downtown. Second place winner Richard W scored Sacramento Kings tickets, and third place winner Joe K received a Yelp beer pint glass. By far the highlight of our awards ceremony was the 2012 Yelper of the Year award for beloved elite Ida H! She received over 60 votes out of close to 300 and won a $50 gift certificate to The Firehouse Restaurant, also courtesy of Dine Downtown!

A special nerd nod to Sylvester Vang for documenting the event in some amazing photos now on Flickr, and to Eric and Gina of Hacker Lab for allowing us to use their space.

A

VSPY!

In English:

This years first Yelp Elite event was hosted together with Hotel Chocolat in Copenhagen. It was freezing cold, so getting spoiled with chocolate was a treat sent from heaven!

H
Antesa J describes it like this: "I ate so much chocolate I felt sick. But it was delicious, and I'd do it again without much persuasion".

F
We had the opportunity to walk around, smell the chocolate and get inspired and tempted. The store Manager, Mikkel, was a great host. He enlightened us into the world of Hotel Chocolat and also talked about chocolate in general. This was super exciting and I think we were all a little bit impressed, of how much time and hard work there goes into making high quality chocolate

PicMonkey Collage
The walls are filled with different kind of chocolate! Here there is something for everyone. As Linda F writes: "You know there's always that one or two in the box you would rather swap for something else. Hotel Chocolat has a wall of individual chocolates in packs of 6. That's right, you buy only the ones you like. Win!"

B

With that in mind, THANK you all for showing up, it was a pleasure meeting you all.

A HUGE thank you to Hotel Chocolat, especially Mikkel for spoiling and educating us. This was highly valued.

If you can't get enough, don't forget to read the reviews on the event page and look through the pictures on Flickr.

Can't wait for the next Yelp event, stay tuned :)

SYOY,

Much love,

Emilie B.

Evento Elite "Yelp Ama Tutti" da Le Barrique

Posted by Kristina

Un grazie speciale all'Enoteca Le Barrique, a Danza in Fiera, e a tutti i presenti.

English Version

This Yelpy 2013 got started off with an Elite Event to show how much Yelp loves Florentine Elites! Great wine and tasty finger food was served at Enoteca Le Barrique, a very romantic Italian restaurant, lit by candle light, with romantic music. All the guests got a special Yelp heart shaped lollipop, to sweeten up their day even more!

Col6The wine tasting "started off with a delicious prosecco offered by Marco and some melt-in-your mouth tastings" Georgette J even "ate pate". After the wonderful wine tasting, and buffet, all the Elites put their thinking caps on and did some brain-storming with the owners Marco and Iacopo. They gave them opinions, and said what they would like out of a restaurant. Valentina and Elena, came to give everyone a nice surprise, a free ticket to all the guests for Danza in Fiera, the most important dance festival in Florence. A night full of surprises and lots of love in the air!

Yelp Chicago 'Burbs' BIG 2013 Kick Off at Pinstripes

Posted by Candice Gatlin

It's that magical time of year when a flurry of fresh reviews roll in and those shiny, new Elite badges are bestowed upon Yelp's best and brightest as we look forward to future fun times, fests and feasts with all our Yelpy friends, new and old. This year, Chicagoland Elites (Facebook, Twitter) and their guests got the party started in Oakbrook with Yelp's 2013 Elite Kick Off at Pinstripes!

PinstripesCollage1

300 Attendees were welcomed to Oakbrook's expansive entertainment facility, Pinstripes (Official, Facebook, Twitter), and swiftly whisked away to the second level for an Elite evening of state-of-the-art bowling, bocce and bistro fare starring Pinstripes' famous avocado-hummus, bruschetta bites, savory sliders and the most notable Yelper favorite, Italian beef flatbread. While Pinstripes Oakbrook's mighty selection of locally crafted beer, house wines and the array of event-exclusive cocktails like the 'Bocce Breeze' using Bombora Organic Vodka (Facebook, Twitter), pink lemonade, raspberry liqueur and lemon wedge, the 'Pinstripes Punch' using Great Lakes Distillery's (Facebook, Twitter) Rehorst Citrus & Honey Vodka, cranberry and orange juice, a dash of vanilla and a lemon or the 'Spiked Strike Spritzer' with Roaring Dan's Maple-Flavored Rum (also from our friends over at Great Lakes Distillery in Milwaukee, WI), root beer and a dash of bitters, ensured no one left thirsty.

Yelp's Official Photographer, Andrés DeLeón (Official, Facebook, Twitter, Flickr), was on hand to capture all the nights candids (check 'em out here) while the ActionBooth (Official, Facebook, Twitter) crew had Yelpers literally jumping for joy as AB's high-speed camera snapped shots of everyone at their Yelpiest (viewable right here). And CK mobile DJ's (Official) Karl M and Nikki C kept the beats bumpin' and party runnin' out on the dance floor where Christian K confesses, nothing could stop him from getting down 'Oppa Yelpy Style.'

PinstripesCollage2

In addition to bowling, bocce, dancing, jumping, eating, posing and drinking, Yelpstar Dana G was on hand to ink individuals at Yelp's festive tattoo station, while other Yelper's chose to show their Yelp spirit at the DIY Yelp schwag buffet or chose to redeem the event's exclusive check-in offer (a high-five from Yelp Chicagoland Community Manager, Candice G), as well as enter the event's Yelp Mobile Photo Contest, with exclusive prizes going to the funniest, most useful and coolest pics uploaded to the event listing here via our Yelp mobile app.

PinstripesFoodCollagePinstripesCollage3

A BIG thanks goes out to Pinstripes of Oakbrook and Laura Mulay Krohmer (Pinstripe's Senior Event Manager), who raffled off $125 gift certificates to several lucky Yelpers and provided all party-goers and their guests with a VIP Pinstripes 'golden ticket' wristband, good for one free glass of wine or root beer float on every return Pinstripes visit for life! You can read all the 5-Star event reviews here and peep all the yelper-uploaded pics here.

Yelp Storms Sarasota!

Posted by BrettNehls

Yelpers in Tampa Bay made a road trip down to Sarasota, and found themselves asking the question, "Who Is Jack Dusty?" Those questions were answered in grand style at The Ritz-Carlton's brand new, gorgeous haven of a restaurant. This event went down before Jack Dusty officially even opened its doors to the public, and who doesn't like to be a part of a grand unveiling? To add to the flare, the Ritz-Carlton provided one generous gift after another leading up to the event. Winnings such as a bed & breakfast prizes, spa treatments, golf packages, and overnight stays were awarded to several Yelpers, as if the free food and drink wasn't enough!

Venue1_small

To take a first-hand account of what went down, ask Michelle M. "Wow! Saturday's Elite event was amazing! The night was filled with strong and tasty cocktails, fabulous appetizers, mermaids, and a DJ. The Jack Dusty restaurant was absolutely stunning!  I loved the huge bar and the outdoor patio with fire pit. The staff was so friendly and treated us like royalty! My sister and I were greeted with cocktails and appetizers the moment we walked through the door!" Pat A couldn't agree more with such wonderful sentiment about Jack Dusty, "It is truly a sea of breathtaking beauty; soothing and vibrant, hip, and a melding of colors and flavors. The galley is delectably delicious. No more top hats and wool suits for the Doormen! Beautifully handsome men in their black and white striped 3/4 length cotton t-shirts - perfect!"

Venue2_small

No Elite event is complete without some tasty treats to analyze, and Bethany M provides a rave review. "My husband and I went crazy over the mini-fried green tomatoes with a huge chunk of crab meat on top. The shrimp ceviche was fab, with just the right amount of salty freshness... as was the sashimi tuna with ponzu sauce. The best little desserts ever were the mini chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches! So simple! So good!" Meanwhile Ross M didn't struggle to wash down the delectables with some epic libations. "The drinks are not just drinks, they are crafted cocktails! Nothing was too sweet, everything was delicious. The Purser's Bane is actually made with Pusser's Rum, and I was really looking forward this drink. It surpassed all my expectations. The passion fruit garnish also made for beautiful eye candy. This is my new all-time favorite drink!"

Food and drink_small

The venue can be beautiful, and the drinks can be flowin', but the extra level of TLC is what makes an event go from good, to phenomenal. Chet L insists there was no shortage of tenderness, love, or caring in the air. "As I have said before, when I walk in to a place and drinks are there waiting - you got me.  All of the staff were super attentive, conversational, and excited to be a part of this restaurant's opening." Jaima S adds to vouches for the good vibes all around. "We were given a card for the scavenger hunt which required us to meet six people in the party to find out more about the new restaurant. Imagine our shock when the people we got to meet were the chefs, owners, and GMs.  Imagine our even larger shock when we found they were all super friendly, down to earth, and shared an intense passion and commitment for making this place great."

People_small

As with all Elite event hosts, there's a ton of hard work and generosity that goes into each one. What separated this one for me, is the sheer passion that the folks at The Ritz put on display in planning this night out. This dates back to more than three months before the night arrived, while Jack Dusty was merely a large room of hammer, nails, and construction workers. It's now a work of art, and largely on Yelp Tampa Bay's radar. None of that could happen without Liza Kubik, Matt Orr, and many other amazing employees at The Ritz-Carlton in Sarsota. To you all, I bow my head in eternal gratitude.

OTP's Southern Comfort at South City Kitchen Vinings

Posted by HeidiP

Yelp elites were treated to a delicious, Southern, comforting evening at South City Kitchen Vinings! Over 60 of had a separate dining room and the heated patio all to ourselves.

Kassie and Joy wo-manned the LeahAndMark.com photobooth with snappy skill. Big hats, feather fans and even dinosaurs were on hand for props. (Remember that dinosaur walk-on in Gone with the Wind?)

Photobooth

Monday Night Brewing and Red Hare Brewing held down the hops. Sweet, Southern songstress Juliana Finch rocked our socks, and even sang a song that mentioned Yelp! Photographer Heather Croas captured it all on film!  See ALL photos here!

Yelp Photos ALL - SCKV

The evening began with passed hors d'oeuvres. Grilled Holman&Finch crostini with cheddar pimento cheese and crispy SCK country ham, and 'Cuffs and Buttons' - Fried LA oysters, oyster and Southern Comfort BBQ sauce.

Before we could lick our lips, the buffet station opened and our eyes welled up. "Kentuckyaki" glazed slow smoked chicken wings with sea island benne seeds, fried green tomatoes with goat cheese, sweet pepper coulis and basil, low and slow Pork BBQ with scallion grit cakes, house bbq sauce, coleslaw, and roasted spaghetti squashpuppies with Mississippi comeback sauce. PHEW. Chef Blake soothed, satisfied and knocked it out of the park, and the staff was ON TOP of everything! SCKV generously provided four $50 gift cards for raffling, and a dining discount for those who stayed after the party – Of which, there were many!

Frankly, my dears, it was a lovely evening!

Posted by Misti Yang

Five years of yelping dedication deserves only the finest: a shiny, golden badge and an intimate, 5-course dinner at Cantina Laredo, the newest eatery at Tivoli Village serving modern Mexican worthy of the fine palettes of Gold Elites.

GoldCollage1
The evening started in the spacious bar with Ahi Tuna Tacos and Cantina Rolls paired with a Jalapeno Margarita, and then the group grabbed a seat in the private dining room. At the end of the night, all Philip T could say is,"I love gooooooold!" Read all of the reviews here and see all of the pictures courtesty of Anthony M on Flickr.

Chicago's Yelp Elite New Shirt Showcase and Un-Wanted Gift Exchange

Posted by Danny Wurst

Rarin’ to go after the holiday hiatus, over 300 yelpers gathered at The Grid in Chicago's River North neighborhood for the Yelp Elite New Shirt Showcase. One of the cities hottest new venues saw guests in their fresh new threads and even welcomed a few fresh new faces to the squad of 2013!

PicMonkey Collage1
Guests enjoyed bacon wrapped dates, cheeseburger meatballs, crab Rangoon and other horderves  served by some of the most spot on staff in Chicago. Washed down with complimentary beer, wines, and signature cocktails including a glazed doughnut infused flavor it was quite the way to start off a year of yelping.

FoodPicMonkey Collage
Besides amazing food samples and stellar spirits entertainment included DJ spun tunes, the coziest fireplaces in town and an Unwanted Gift Exchange where 100 guests donated their discarded presents from the holiday season. Hoping to unwrap something more special than originally received, several lucky winners walked away with rad prizes including Yelp shirts, As Seen On TV toys, and tickets to the d'Vine Affair at the end of the month.

Yelp Singapore Checks In At Carpenter And Cook

Posted by Marcus

The Singapore Elite squad rocked the sleepy little Bukit Timah lane of Lorong Kilat last night, thanks to our lovely hosts Carpenter and Cook! 30 Elites and guests made sure their hospitality did not go to waste, chowed down on excellent grub and made lots of new friends too - it was, after all, our very first Yelp Elite Event!

Carpenter3
We were treated to some amazing nibbles, including some bacon and onion quiche, brioche sandwiches, sundried tomato and olive savoury brioches, *deep breath* banana and pumpkin seed loaf cakes, and apple crumble cakestarts - lemon cream, passionfruit meringue, AND dark chocolate salted caramel... then there were some raspberry brownies... too much, too much. Oh and did I mention the lovely coffees from their vintage Elektra, and the sodas and craft beers too? We were spoilt little children with grubby hands on all the sweets.

Carpenter6
Thanks to Eunice, Shenn and Phoebe of Carpenter and Cook for the amazing reception; the Elites certainly enjoyed every last crumb. Pixelmusica got us some great snaps of the night as well - check them out here! If you haven't left your review yet, make sure you post it pronto!

Until next time... SYOY!

Twas an Olympic year, twas. And Boston Elites, knowledgeable in the art of ceremony, gathered en masse to honor ten of their spartan warriors. Ten who have proven themselves as masters at being funny, sending compliments, hosting rockin' UYEs or achieving life itself. Yelp's Little Black Dress Night at Blackfinn American Grille

Posted by Katie C

The dresses were black, the Yelp was red, and the cocktails were flowing copiously at Yelp Jacksonville’s second-ever Elite Event. 60+ guests ascended on Blackfinn American Grille at the St. Johns Town Center to find a swanky, side bar outfitted with black tablecloths and low lighting. The stage was set for an unforgettable Elite Event, complete with four specially crafted “YelpTails” and mounds of munchies courtesy of Blackfinn.

Collage1

As creamy Spinach and Artichoke Dip was fired up on the bar, Elites were treated to Macaron Prosecco, Concannon Crimson & Clover, and a list of Yelp-inspired cocktails crafted with Cupcake Vodka. The smash hit of the night was “THE ELITE,” made with Macaron Prosecco, peach schnapps, St. Germaine elderflower liquer, soda, and garnished with a lime.

Ying Yang Shrimp, Pretzel Bites, and Blue Cheese Salad Wedges made their way into the party as Elites enjoyed the chance to mingle off-site... many for the first time. Steve G agrees "It's fun to see all the people who were always virtual come out and have fun together!"

Collage2

The party continued with Chocolate Covered Pretzel Martinis and, as warm cookies and brownies were circling the room, guests were asked to fish out their raffle tickets for a chance to win tickets to Jacksonville Magazine's Best of Jacksonville Party or two free registrations for the 5k Foam Fest in March.

Collage3

Han L is pumped on Yelp in 2013, saying “I'm really excited to see the Yelp community burgeon in Jax. BURGEON! BURGEON I SAY!” We couldn't agree more, and all the thanks go to Blackfinn American Grille for providing a stunning venue and stellar service. But don't take our word for it, Anna-Marie Bolet Photography captured all the excitement of the night. View the photos now on the Yelp Jacksonville Flickr page.

Still need to review the Little Black Dress Elite Event? The time is now!

Yelp's Brisbane Alfred & Constance Private Dinner

Posted by Lani P.

Last night, ten of Yelp Brisbane's Elite Squad were treated to a private dinner in Alfred & Constance's Black Room dining on samples of the restaurant's upcoming new menu.

He did it once with Limes Hotel, and Damian Griffiths has done it again with Alfred & Constance. This bar, cafe, and tiki bar brings two Queenslander houses together and makes for one helluva time. Trust us when we say: Brisbane's seen nothing like it yet.

PicMonkey Collage3
In the Black Room, just one nook of the entire space, we shared the table with A&C's Patron Chef Jocelyn Hancock, and gleefully sampled a personal selection of Jocelyn's best menu creations including lamb cutlets with an anchovy mayonnaise, pulled pork with a bone marrow and red wine jus, a fresh and clean tasting labna and pea salad and my personal favourite: the Moreton Bay Bugs.

PicMonkey Collage1
Like Stephanie Alexander and Maggie Beer (yes I'm putting her in that upper eschalon), Jocelyn is genuinely passionate about food, and not just any food, high quality and locally produced food. She was the mastermind behind Jocelyn's Provisions and has worked as a pastry chef in Brisbane, London and Paris. She's even been head pastry chef for one Stephanie Alexander.

Growing up on her family's farm in Killarney, west of Brisbane, she developed a strong appreciation of good food which is seen throughout her direction and input to Alfred & Constance's menu. As their patron chef she oversess the sourcing of the produce, setting the menu and the creative direction of it all.

PicMonkey Collage2
She told us, "We want to have a select handfull of people we can source our produce from. An intimate connection from paddock to plate with as little handling as possible in the process."

Til next time, read the reviews or sign up for your dose of Brisbane's most useful, funny and cool local businesses.

Yelp's Fresh Start Elite Event at Blue Medi Spa

It's a new year, the Elite Class of '13 are sporting new badges, so why not start the year off right with a little bit of pampering. It's good for the body, mind, and spirit!

Michelle "Shellie" B was also on site creating luxurious locks full of curls and bang trims.

PicMonkey Collage1

Elegant Eats pumped some serious bites out of the kitchen, including Bacon-Wrapped Medjool Dates Stuffed with Gorgonzola Cheese and 70% Cacao Chocolate, Artisan Regional Cheese Boards, Roast Beef Horseradish Havarti Fondue with Arugula on Parmesan Focaccia, BBQ Pulled Pork Asian Slaw Spring rolls, Roasted Butternut Squash Flatbread Pizza with Goat Cheese and Sage, Caprese Skewers with Fresh Mozzarella, Margherita Pizza, and for dessert, Devils Food Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Buttercream Frosting! The bar was busy all night making magical cocktail concoctions featuring Svedka vodka and Hubert's Lemondade and fresh berries. And, Yelp popcorn bags even made an appearance thanks to Blue's signature popcorn machine.

PicMonkey Collage

The pampering didn't stop there, as everyone went home with goodie bags, complete with a gift certificate to revisit Blue Medi Spa for a future treatment! Big thanks to Jade Umbrella PR for coordinating the event. Reviews and pictures can be found on the review page!
