A dozen Elite made their way down to A La Carte Cooking School for a lesson in slicing, dicing, toasting and baking in a state-of-the-art kitchen facility located in the main shopping district of the village of Lynbrook, New York. A La Carte's mission is to help people gain more understanding, and satisfaction by enjoying the rewards and pleasures of cooking and eating good food — a service that is welcome in everyone’s life.
The Elite menu consisted of delicious holiday appetizers that no one in the room had ever prepared before: A roasted trio of vegetables with cumin and mint, mini meatballs with saffron sauce, grilled rosemary and garlic lamb chop lollipops & gougeres AKA cheese puffs. Randy H runs it down best: "The class started off with a safety demonstration on safe knife handling techniques, much appreciated. The chefs then took us step by step through each of the recipes for the night. They were very helpful in answering questions from the group on some of the techniques involved." Boom. Truth bomb right there.
The most rewarding part of cooking has to be enjoying the fab meal afterwards, especially for Lauren V. "Of course, one of my favorite parts was the end when we got to taste everything. Part of the cooking floor turned into the dining room and we all got to enjoy the fruits of our labor, plus good company. A plate with lamb chops, meat balls, cheese puffs and veggies? Yep, I'll take two. And a glass of wine on the side! Superb."
