Providence Yelpers Jingle All The Way!
Yelp PVD's Merry Marketplace "was full of the holiday spirit." Over 250 yelpers "shopped, ate, drank, and grooved our way around the rows of fantastic local merchant booths" last Thursday night at Hope Artiste Village. Jennifer E "loved knowing that I was not only getting some fantastic handcrafted items, but contributing to the RI economy and not just to the usual big box stores." Hooray for shopping locally!
"If you didn't walk away from this event with a little extra holiday cheer, you truly are a Grinch! It had the perfect mix of drinks, food, and socializing" and gave Jen H the opportunity to finish "checking names off the gift list." For Jean R, "this was the best local shopping all in one place - and my holiday shopping is complete!" She enjoyed "amazing nibbles while sipping on a 'Gansett and shopping at PVDs finest!"
"In no particular order," Valerie Z "ate ceviche (Los Andes), got a chair massage (Alayna White), scored adorable earrings (SUEDE), picked up Christmas gifts (Queen of Hearts, Mod Mama), and took photos with my sis (Shutterbooth). Nobody does it like PVD Yelp. For serious." In addition to all of the stellar businesses mentioned by Ms Z, Yelps Merry Marketplace featured hand-crafted local jewelry from Noon Designs, coal-fired slices and the best wings in town from Providence Coal Fired Pizza, fabulous fashions, accessories and heavenly scented candles from Shoppe Pioneer, blissful baked bites from cupcake confectioner The Cupcakerie and the heath-conscious and delicious Rachel Bakes. Specialty crafts from local artisans such as Ahlers Designs, Rhody Craft 100 and MadKnits were a huge hit, as well as the beauty products for the beauties from Ava Anderson Non Toxic selling their eco-friendly goods. Yelpers shopped for a wonderful assortment of unique gifts from retailers such as cook's delight Stock Culinaty Goods, the vinyl-lovers dream In Your Ear Records, quirky and charming items from Homestyle and the gift for the guy who has everything, City Dining Cards. All those shopping yelpers were able to keep cool with sips of cool brews courtesy of our buddies at Harpoon Brewery, Crispin Cider and Narragansett Beer. And let us not forget the seriously delicious (and enormous!) sandwiches from Hudson Street Deli, the outstandingly fresh crudites and giftbags from Julians or the smorgasbord of tastiness (falafel, anyone?) from Yelp PVD's #1 restaurant, East Side Pockets!
To make the magic happen, the elves from Powerstation Events lit up the greenhouse of Hope Artiste Village and really set the mood, along with the musical stylings of DJ Anthony Ferreira who "filled the Merry Marketplace with plenty of tunes." Victor K dug the "great food and great booze," and wonders, "what more could anyone want? Oh.... how about free samples, loads of Yelp swag and supporting local Providence businesses?" You got it, bud! Be sure to check out the festive pics snapped with care by Brad Smith, and take a peek at the Shutterbooth hilarity, too!
And since the holidays are about giving rather than receiving, the merry yelpers of Providence spread good cheer and raised heaps of cash for our dear friends at Providence Animal Rescue League. And with that, my dear yelpers I say unto you – Happy Holidays to all, and to all a good Yelp!
- Hilary H (with Santa & Buddy, too)
