40+ Yelpers made their way through the cold December rain to experience their first ever Ottawa Elite Event – Yelp’s Whiskey Wonderland at The Whiskey Bar. Not knowing what to expect, guests were welcomed in with holiday music and a festive-themed icebreaker. Guests were set out to meet their fellow yelpers while trying to match their holiday lyrics with songs and movie quotes with Christmas movie classics. The first two winners were awarded $50 gift certificates from The Whiskey Bar's sister restaurants Cornerstone Bar and Grill and Steak.
Excited Yelpers greeted each other, many of them for the very first time offline, and were steered toward a spiced hot chocolate bar with hot chocolate from Timothy’s and Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum courtesy of our host venue, The Whiskey Bar. Hot chocolate extras included reindeer droppings (chocolate rosettes), polar bear hair (shredded coconut), north poles (chocolate hazelnut wafer sticks), snowman poop (mini marshmallows) and candy canes. While delighting in the boozy beverages, guests devoured delicious holiday treats from 3 local bakeries participating in Yelp Shops Local. Samantha M “really liked the cake pops!” from Bake Mob and loved that “the inside was so moist and delicious.” Other holiday goodies included peanut butter chocolate squares and mint chocolate whoopie pies from Auntie Loo’s Treats and mini vanilla cupcakes by The Flour Shoppe.
Yelpers appreciated the venue, taking advantage of the well stocked bar, spacious dance floor, roomy booths and comfy couches. Kayla S notes that “all of the staff were great as well. They were attentive towards the group and made it extremely easy for us to have a great night! The bartender gave us some water after some intense boogie-ing, which was greatly appreciated! (and might I add, he was not hard on the eyes!).”
The holiday cheer was shining bright at Yelp Ottawa’s inaugural event, but don’t take our word for it. Check out the reviews and see what it takes to be a member of the Yelp Elite Squad. We’d love to have you!
May your days be merry and bright, and full of love and laughter. Can’t wait to see you all in 2013 and make some more memories!
