Yelp's Intro to Outré
Yelpers turned out in their droves for an Elite Event at Outré, the enfant terrible of Sydney’s art scene. Flanked by a tattoo parlour and vintage shops at the business end of Crown St, Outré is a counter-culture art gallery and repository of all-round radness that specializes in underground, surrealist, street, tiki, retro, lowbrow, modern folk and international pop art. A two-level kaleidoscope of floor-to-ceiling prints had guests drowning in creative cool, with many startled by the sheer affordability of such kick-ass artwork.
Yelpers frocked up for the occasion and there was some serious street cred on display with the gallery floor awash with tatts, leather skirts, bandannas, high-waisted purple pants and even the rumour of a double nipple piercing in the hizzouse. No names, no pack-drill!
The spirit of the world’s most famous tattoo artist, ‘Sailor Jerry’ Collins, was in residence with Hugh Payten-Smith from Sailor Jerry Rum slinging dark’n’stormys to all and sundry in their brand-spankin’ black anchor cups. Such was the smoothness of the brew it converted Yelp intern Angela Y into a born-again rum-drinker. Win.
The internationals were well represented, with esteemed Yelpers from as far away as Valencia and Lyon on hand to party Sydney-style, and a Yelp Elite from The City Of Lights (that'd be Paris) was on hand to scoop the door prize of an awesome book pack courtesy of Outré.
Special thanks to Sam MacDonald Photography for providing the happy snaps of the night. Want more?
