Yelp Chicagoland Gets Beer Schooled By Tenth and Blake Beer Co.

Posted by Candice Gatlin

The Yelp Chicago 'Burbs Elite community enrolled in 5-courses of 5-star higher ale education taught by our good friends over at Tenth and Blake Beer Co in coordination with Town & Country Distributing. Chicagoland Elites beat the 100+ degree heat with perfect pours paired by the one and only Jeff Miller of Tenth and Blake Beer Co along with 5-courses of mouthwatering delights by Chef Vince of Bogart's at the Premier, that ensured Yelp's elites would be in for a very hoppy Humpday.

The scene was set for this posh party at the Premier within Muvico of Rosemont. Guests rolled up their rides, greeted by Muvico's VIP valet service, and were swiftly whisked away to the penthouse-level digs of Bogart's, where they were greeted with choice of ice cold Coors Light or Miller Light, served as both a palatte cleaser and mild nerve-number to go along with the BIG Tenth and Blake beer pop-quiz, where Yelp elites were able to thwart any possibility of post-event prohibition with their brew-minded brains while munching on Muvico's gourmet, theater-style popcorn. Poppin' bottles and poppin' popcorn... That's how we do!

Floored by the first course of Tomato Basil Flatbread and Peroni Nastro Azzurro international-style pilsner, Clifford S declares this his favorite fizzer and predicts: "I can see myself drinking a Peroni in the very near future." While over the second course of Crab Cakes with Pineapple Relish and Chipotle Mayonnaise paired with Blue Moon, Misty S discovered that "Blue Moon goes impeccably well with seafood." and notes, "Bogart's crab cakes are some of the best I've ever had." Not a crabby face in the crowd!

Pierre D dishes on all the third course deets and braces us with a gourmet warning: "This isn't your childhood Mac & Cheese, yo! It's an artesian mac & cheese, served a la bogarts with smoked applewood bacon, roasted red pepper in a spicy cheese sauce topped with a toasted panko bread crumbs paired with Worthington's White Shield, a special English IPA that's new to the American Market. It was much less hoppier than the American counterpart and I think it was a good mellow beer, and left me wanting more." Taylor M's mouth was salivating over the fifth course of boneless braised short ribs served with a Batch 19 demi-glazed with sauteed vegetables and garlic mash potatoes paired with Batch 19, "so tender you could cut it with a fork." Un-forking believable!

The fifth and final course pretzel bread pudding topped with vanilla bean ice cream and a Wee Heavy Scotch Ale caramel drizzle, with a touch of pretzel salt paired with Big Eddy Wee Heavy by JLBC. We couldn't imagine a sweeter way to end an educational evening that taught several dozen brew-newbs a bit of beer geek-ery without the snobbery.

Check out what everyone's saying about this exclusive elite event here and peep the pics from our ever flashy photog, Andres D (facebook, twitter), who snapped shots of everything from the food, the brew, the crew and the 50+ overstuffed gift bags provided by Town and Country (facebook, twitter) with goodies from Tenth and Blake Beer Co (facebook, twitter), Muvico (facebook, twitter), Chef Vince and Bogart's (facebook, twitter) and Yelp (facebook, twitter). One thing's for sure, these Yelpers got schwagger!

Thanks to all the Elites for coming out and a big thank you goes out to experts in the field and generous hosts, Jeff Miller and Tenth and Blake Beer Co, Rebecca Pray and Town and Country Distributing, Andres D, Muvico Rosemont, as well as Chef Vice and Bogart's At The Premier for a truly unforgettable evening and 5-star event!

Cheers and Cheetahs,

Yelp Milwaukee's On A Boat!

Posted by Rachel Fell

Pirates, yacht rock, Hawaiian eats, locally-crafted rum, prizes, a dance-off, a costume contest and a lovely afternoon. Could it even get any better ever?

It did, because, well... it was all that, plus? We were on a boat. Nauti-cool!

Thanks to the Milwaukee Boat Line's amazing staff and crew, we set sail on the Voyageur for Yelp's On A Boat this past Sunday afternoon, and the sailing? So so smooth.

Amazing Hawaiian eats for local superstar restaurant Ono Kine Grindz — they had us nom'in on seitan & tofu jicama pasta salad, Kalua pork quesedillas, Lomi Lomi, and Char Siu chicken skewers. Great Lakes Distillery's Roaring Dan's punch? Also a hit, and with the Swedish Fish garnish? Adorbs.

Mixmaster Tom Julio had us dancing to all the smooth hits of the 70s — think Michael McDonald and Christopher Cross — and our yacht-rock smooth seventies dance off had folks moving and shaking it on the greatest lake like you wouldn't believe.

And we had costumes, of course. And prizes! An octopus and a snapping turtle, a mermaid and Triton, Steve Zissou, pirates, captain's hats, Gilligan and the crew, and dapper 70s-style yacht rock duds. For real!

Good times, great lakes: this was the event, folks. Check out even more pics (by Luke R) here and read all of the event reviews here! An absolute blast, and "smooth" sailing with the best Yelp elites a CM could ask for. Can't wait for more dancing, nomming, drinking, and overall ridiculousity with this crew! Until next time... as always, See You On Yelp!

Your Milwaukee captain (I'm the one in the hat),

New Orleans Elites Embark On A Taste Trip

Posted by Joi

Wouldn't it be a divine dream come true to just close your eyes, wish really hard and bam! suddenly you're in a Bora Bora chowing down on a plate of Poisson Cru?

Ok, so it didn't all go down like that exactly. But it was definitely the next best thing!

On Friday evening, the New Orleans Elite Squad jetted over to Suis Generis, a new restaurant in the Bywater, for a Wanderlust Taste Trip. Here's just a sampling of our exotic international taste tour: Cuban corn cooked on open flame and rolled in chilli, cotija cheese and lime, pineapple manchego skewers, Malaysian short ribs, Sicilian marinated basil mozzarella tomato and basil stacks and much, much more.

Complimentary cocktails featured the pleasantly smooth and delicious Spicebox Whiskey. The Prohibition Mule with fresh lime, ginger and mint and the sweet, tropical Naughty Box rocked our world! Our host for the evening, Ernest, spun from his collection of rare South American and Asian psychedelic vinyl, which provided the perfect exotic soundtrack for this chill trip. Phenomenal food and drink, meeting new people (as well as seeing old friends)... what more do you need for some extraordinary exploration?

Never been to an Elite party before? Take it from Mande P: "I go to a lot of parties and I've always found the Yelp gatherings the most fun. I enjoy the diversity of people, their stories and the food/beverage aspect. Yelpers are my favorite people by a long shot. I find them to be a no b*llsh!t genuine group of folks."

See the rest of the photos on flickr and take a look at the reviews!

Major thanks to Ernest and Adrienne, owners of Suis Generis, as well as Nadia of Spicebox Whiskey and Sunny, their award winning mixologist.

Until our next excursion,

Do The Hop, The Berkeley Drinks District Hop!

Posted by Nique!

"It was such a beautiful day in the neighborhood that even Mr. Rogers would have skipped the sweater-vest and grabbed a wine glass," according to Bill B., who joined 150 of his East Bay Elite neighbors on Sunday to discover a hidden corner of Berkeley that's becoming known, fondly, as the "Drinks District." Three drinkeries are responsible for this spirited revival: Donkey & Goat Winery, Broc Cellars, and Trumer Pils Brauerei, and Yelp Elites spent an entire afternoon hopping between the three for what Troy M likened to a "mini, refined pub crawl." Drinksdistrict1The smell of spicy chorizo and sizzlin' shrimp lured Lorissa W to Donkey & Goat's back patio where Venga Paella "had three giant stoves working overtime, making sure every little plate of paella had shrimp, fish, and calamari in it." Stephanie M was sufficiently charmed by her "plateful of moist, seafood-y goodness," confessing "if I wasn't so caught up in the Grenache Blanc, I most certainly would have" stood in line for seconds. Four Donkey & Goat wines were being poured by the "humorous and affable" tasting room team, while Amber Gougis enchanted the crowd with her sultry jazz vocals. "The sweet sound" of her voice "made it hard to move on," but Noel M perservered to Hop Stop #2... Drinksdistrict2Down an ivy-covered alleyway, Broc Cellars welcomed guests into their urban home where "the wine flowed plentifully from their uniquely labeled bottles," giving Robin L "a new perspective on where to hang out on a sunny Sunday afternoon." Roussanne and the Vine Starr White blend were poured in the cool shade of their garage-style barrel room, while two Broc reds, 100% Mourvedre and "Its Complicated" Valdiguie, were a unique treat for wine-wearing palates. Jensyn H could hardly believe her eyes, stumbling upon three of her favorite things, "the Cypress Grove cheese plates, the amazing mourvedre, and a banjo!? Now, that's my style!" Drinksdistrict4Just around the corner, and prime hopping distance from the wine tasting action, world-famous Trumer Pils Brauerei opening their doors for tours & tallboys of their signature brew, which tastes extra "clean and refreshing" straight from the tap, Kenneth R notes. Since there's no better pairing for a cold beer than a spicy fish taco, Rubio's was the perfect addition to the summery scene, grilling up fresh mango habanero tacos with a kick, while banjo sensation Isaac Cantor strummed up some seriously good vibes, making the whole experience "feel like hanging out at your friend's BBQ, getting a bit tipsy on a Sunday afternoon," for Troy M. After all the luscious sips and savory bites, Ben K had an ah-ha moment: "Honestly, I'm not sure why I don't spend every Sunday afternoon feeling the sun pour down with a glass of wine in my hand." Funny,  we were just thinking the same thing...

Find inspiration for next weekend's itinerary on the event review page, explore the Drinks District photos on Flickr, and share your favorite hoppin' spots on our Facebook page.

Until next time,

Yelp Dallas's Late Night Extravaganza Pajama Party!

Last Thursday, July 28th, Dallas Elites united at the newly opened Olivella's for a Late Night Extravaganza Pajama Party. Once the clock struck 10pm, pajama-clad Yelpers dined on delicious pies, lasagna and sandwich samplers while sipping on some sensational sangria, beer, and wine.

Pizza from the likes of pepperoni, margherita, and the highly noted 'Dream' Pizza - fully loaded with mozzarella, gorgonzola, tomato sauce, pancetta, and jalapeno. But Hena K's favorite "had to be the dessert pizza with nutella, apples, melted marshmallows, and walnuts." For a little slice of heaven, Brian Q recommends the "truffle pizza and the chicken, jalapeno, & bacon pizza." Plus, "the lasagna was surprisingly good - noodles weren't overcooked and the sauce tasted super fresh.  Olivella's staff was very friendly and kept the food and drinks in copious supply."  FunCollage

To accentuate the pajama party mood, board games such as Twister, Pictionary, and Candyland were played, but it had to be the sleeping bag races that really captured the slumber party scene.

Yelpers cheered on the brave souls ready to compete for the 'Yelp' Gold. In the Olympic spirit, things got pretty competitive as they aspired to go home victorious. As yelpers raced their way to the finish line, Michael C helps us remember: "the lesson we learned that night, when they tell you to "hop" in the sleeping bag race, then hop; don't run" Plus – winners that 'hopped' their way to victory went home with Texas Theatre memberships!

PicMonkey CollageThank you so much for the always-amazing Olivella's at Hillside Village for opening up their doors late night so us crazy Yelpers could connect with a great local business and have a whopping good time doing it. We couldn't have captured all the wonderful, poignant party shots without the help of Brian Q and Damien with D Martin Movement, who specialize in cinematic photography, video production, web development, and graphic design.

The night was a a shining success and we look forward to what's in store for us at the August Elite Event. But don't our word for it, check out how Dallas Yelpers party for a little nightcap here and view the party pics while you're at it, too!

Until Next Time, SYOY

Yelp Denver's July Secret Supper Club at Jonesy's EatBar

This past Thursday saw Denver yelpers gather at Jonesy's EatBar in Uptown for the seventh installment of the 2012 Secret Supper Club. Dozens of diners came out to enjoy a four course meal prepared by Chef Beau and two wine pairing from Canyon Wind Cellars in Palisade, CO. The wines, a rose and a petit verdot were both a smashing success, so much so that Vicki P has already been procuring bottles from her local liquor stores!

And the food was just as pleasing to the palate. Yelpers started out with a first course of a Bacon Bleu Potato Cake (apple wood smoked bacon, caramelized onions, Bleu cheese crumbles, dressing and chives) and followed it up with an Arugula Farro Salad (baby arugala, heirloom tomatoes, farro, fresh mozzarella, and champagne vinaigrette.) The main course of dirty rice, shrimp, craw fish, andoulie sausage, onions and cilantro cream with chipoltle black bean puree all stuffed into bell peppers was no slouch either. But, for many attendees dessert stole the show! The "Red, White and Bluebarb" - bread pudding with strawberries, blueberries, and home-grown rhubarb topped with Lucky Charms ice cream (from Sweet Action) and a cherry glaze left many yelpers declaring a new favorite sweet around town. As Shea S yelped, "Anyone have some extra stars they can lend me? This dinner lived up to my expectations and then some!"

Be sure to check out the reviews and photos. And don't forget to book your seat at the table for August's Secret Supper coming up on the 22nd!

Until next time, SYOY (See You On Yelp)!

Yelp Does the Dip! @ Dance With Me

Posted by Drew

On a stormy Saturday on Long Island, over 30 yelpers laced up their dancing shoes and salsa'd away those rainy day blues. Dance With Me, owned by Dancing With The Stars professional dancers Maksim, Tony and Val, is one of the nation's leading Latin and Ballroom dance studios. They've assembled the best instructors from all over the world to guide students in the proper techniques of many dance styles. Pretty much, they guarantee you'll no longer be standing on the sidelines when a random dance party busts out. While yelpers boast hobbies ranging from eating, drinking, blogging and adventuring, Dance With Me made sure that shimmying and shaking it like a pro came easier to our two left-booted flock. Everyone left feelin' the flow. Doin' the do.

Dancing 1

Of course, dancing wasn't all that was offered. Dutch's Spirits was on hand featuring their J & J Iced Tea, a cocktail made from Dutch's Spirits Sugar Wash Moonshine, and The Bakery provided crumbly cookies for everyone to nosh on. Last but not least, yelpers were snapped two-stepping with professional dancers and friends, by John Emig. Did you miss the event? Shame shame. Check out all the rave reviews here and if you were in attendance, talk it up! Want in on the next Long Island Yelp event? Get your RSVP's in early or become part of the Elite Squad!

Yelp Helps! Yelp Aide! Montreal

Posted by Risa D

With more than 350 attendees and a dozen exceptional local non-profits, this first edition of Yelp Helps!  was a sunny success this weekend in Montreal. A game of Yelp-O had guests circulating throughout a beautiful four story bistro to find every single non-profit, make some art or play a game with each one, in order to win a Yelp Kazoo and rock out with the live music written especially for the event. As Carmel B put it, "If this is what's to be expected of Yelp's presence in Montreal, then the island's in for a big treat."

Guests noshed steak and salmon tartar, cantaloupe gazpacho shots, duck confit, and mountains of desserts by the in house French pastry chef, and choose from a menu of drinks including homemade fresh French lemonade and Maker's Mark, Jim Beam and Ginger, sangria, all lovingly shaken, stirred and served by the owners (and kickass Yelpers) behind Deux Gamins. For Laura D "The drinks (Cooler Moscow Mule) and food (beef and salmon tartare) were wonderful, the booths were informative and ready (and willing) to answer my gazillion questions. I walked away knowing more about the different organizations here in Montreal and have started the process to volunteer some time at at least one of them."

The event was deemed a "HUGE success" by participating non-profits including
Team in Training, World Wildlife Fund, Santropol Roulant, Festival Fringe, Bouge D'ici, the Yellow Door, Friends for Mental Health, Head and Hands, Apathy is Boring, and beloved partners Pop Montréal and the Canadian Liver Foundation. It even resulted in the creation of some spectacular collaborative wall art led by internationally celebrated Montreal art collective En Masse, and the Zumba flash mob dance scene led by Dancing 4 Causes that capped off the afternoon, briefly taking one of Montreal's only cobblestone pedestrian walkway.

Check out more amazing photos from the event by Cindy Lopez for MidnightPoutine.com

July Elite Event: Bubblicity

Posted by Annie

Dublin's Yelpers got to experience Ireland's first ever bubble tea shop - Bubblicity! Karl and his team explained to the group how the concept was born in Taiwan, as he put it:

'Everything in this store is from Taiwan from the bamboo in the floor to the tea. The only thing here not from Taiwan is us!'

The Bubblicity team gave each Yelper a tasting sheet to make notes of the bubble teas that they liked and there was a lot to try as we learned! For the two hours of the event we got tray after tray of tasty combinations. Bubble tea is actually a healthy drink alternative with very small amounts of sugar and its all natural. Caoimhe from Detox Retox catered the event with some of her coconut and orange cakes that are free from gluten, grains, wheat, dairy, sugar, yeast, soya and peanuts.

We had a wide range of milk bubble tea flavours, from coconut to chocolate to honeydew to the tradional taro flavour which a lot of folks described tasted like the milk after a bowl of Lucky Charms! Alongside that we got some fruit bubble teas such as mango, sour apple and mint!

Karl explained that you can get the tea chilled, slushly type cold and hot. They amount of combinations you can try is endless too as well as adding in extras like pobbles, jams, jellies, red bean & oats, matcha smoothie and chocolate & raspberry cookie. You just have to try it for yourself to experience the unusual and wonderful sensation of the fruity pobbles bursting in your mouth or the chewy tapioca balls at the base of your drink.

To finish the evening the Princes Of Lagos comedy improv group entertained us with their usual risque routines as we filled our bellies to bursting point with bubble tea! Thanks so much to Karl Mulvee, Ronan Murphy and Ivano Cafolla (founders of Bubblicity) for being so generous with all the teas at the end of the event they gave us a free tea to take home! Post gossip from the night here! Read the reviews here! And check out the photos taken by the talented Claire Nash here!

Till next time - see you on Yelp!

Yelp's Craft Beer Sample Session @MOJO With James Clay!

Not a week after the shenanigans at Sandinista! Cantina, Yelp Leeds was abuzz with activity again, this time playing out at MOJO bar for yet another fabulous evening of funzies. For this CMYE (Community Manager Yelp Event) the folks flooded out into the night for a specialist introduction to Craft Beer, hosted for us by the fantastic Ben of James Clay Beers, in the cosy Rhum Room in one of Leeds' favourite cocktail spots.

Mojo Beer3
Mojo Beer4
To start the event, folks were welcomed downstairs with a local tipple, a bottle of the delectable Mary Jane by Ilkley Brewery. If you've yet to sample it, this seriously drinkable beer is one of their more widely renowned ales, coming in at a sociable  3.5% ABV, with delightful notes of citrus on the nose and a sweet start with a tangy finish on the tongue. It also happens to be a gold medal winner at the SIBA Northern region beer competition 2009/10 and bronze medal winner at the SIBA national competition.

Mojo Beer5
Mojo Beer6
Once everyone had arrived folks were herded upstairs to let the James Clay session begin. After a brief introduction to Ben, the evening began with a short palatable history on American craft beer, where it was divulged that there are a number of strict criteria that allow a beer to be classed as such – for example, it has to be produced under a certain volume per annum, and must use only the highest quality ingredients.

Mojo Beer7
Mojo Beer8
The first beer delved into was Anchor Steam Beer that, with its light caramel notes, is both sweet and incredibly moreish. Bronze in colour, with a thick creamy head, this *'unique beer is universally recognised as a world classic that traces back to the Gold Rush era.' It took folks no time at all to get through the initial sampling, nattering and chattering as they sipped, testing Ben with the odd question or two.

Mojo Beer9
Mojo Beer10
The next beer was Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, which was consumed with equal anticipation. Whilst it was a little more complex than the prior tipple, everyone heartily got involved in the drink, taking in the notes and tips from Ben. Sierra Nevada is considered to be one of the premier craft breweries of the states, so it's no wonder that it disappeared so very quickly that night! *'It has a deep amber colour and an exceptionally full-bodied, complex character. Generous quantities of premium Cascade hops give the Pale Ale its fragrant bouquet and spicy flavour.' After this sumptuous sip, everyone got a handy sampling of Brooklyn Brewery's Brooklyn Lager. As well as learning that the brewery suffered quite a tough start with their business given the area of their start up, folks learned about the fantastic beer they were sampling. *'Brooklyn Lager has won numerous awards, beginning with first place at the Great American Beer Tasting in 1989. A superb balance of sweet malt and crisp bitter hops. Dry hopped for more flavour.'

Mojo Beer12
Mojo Beer13

The penultimate tipple on the list was the delicious Goose Island India Pale Ale, which was the strongest in ABV thusfar, and despite having made merry of three fabulous drinks beforehand, everyone relished the flavour and aroma. It's perhaps a little strong for some to make a night of, but if you're after a sumptuous sip to remember, it comes highly recommended. *'Quite simply a hop lover's dream - this classic ale adds a fruity aroma, set off by a dry malt middle, to ensure that the long hop finish is widely regarded as a modern classic.' Once those were done folks assembled to leave, believing this to be the end, and it was then that the lovely Ben broke out the pieste de resistance: Local 1. Of the guests in attendance, one or two knew of the delights to come, but no one expected such a treat! At 9.0% ABV, it packs a punch, but the Brooklyn Brewery's take on a Belgian beer is a dynamic delight for true beer fans. They use the old technique of 100% bottle re-fermentation to create this drink, and it was the perfect way to end the evening!

Mojo Beer11
A huge thanks goes out to Ben, of James Clay Beers, the amazing staff at MOJO, Matthew Kitchen our faithful photographer, and the wonderful Cheryl of SLB, who worked together to make this fabulous event. Armed with some super craft beer knowledge, and a taste for more, folks sauntered on into the night to hunt down their next exciting tipple... Want to hear it from the horses' mouths? Here's a sampling of their thoughts!

"Ben was very knowledgable about beer and its history and delicate balances of flavours and types. this is a man who has spent a lot of time studying his craft, i'm guessing in the classroom as he doesn't look like the typical beer specialist. far too healthy looking and has way too many teeth for a beer expert.

i have to find out who distributes the Brooklyn brewery's Local 1 beer. me and that beer are going to do a lot of damage to one another!" Jim E

"Have to agree with April and Jim, I wasn't sure what to expect from a bunch of American craft beers having been a bit of a one for the old 'Real ales' of Blighty, but  goodness, lordy and all that, these craft beers are excellent. My favourite being the Anchor Steam beer, followed by the Broklyn No1, but all of them were very nice and Ben was very knowlagable about brewing and beer in general, with an interesting history of American beer pre and post prohibition." Joe C

And, until next time, I'll be seeing you on Yelp!

Fun With Fried Chicken!

Posted by peter d.

On Saturday, some of Brooklyn's best weekend warriors headed over to Gowanus to learn how to perfect Southern Fried Chicken! As a part of Skillshare's Culinary Semester in Brooklyn, Southern chef extraordinaire Kelly Leding hosted an exclusive Elite-only event on everyone's favorite dish in the beautiful kitchen space at Ger-Nis Culinary & Herb Center.

Much like Skillshare, this event was all about learning: from Kelly, from experience, and from each other. Among other things, we now know:

1. How to brine the bird for maximum juiciness.
2. The drawbacks of large breasts (they don't always fry all the way through).
3. Which brand of socks are the best (thanks Akash!).
4. The cheat to get the delicious crispy bits on every piece of bird.
5. Clint H is useless when it comes to measuring (at least in comparison to badass baker Claire F).
6. Prosecco and fried chicken is a perfect pairing.
7. Julia B is the best at taking creepy pics.
8. And tons more tips for top-notch fried chicken!

A huge thanks goes out to Kelly Leding, Leighann and Akash from Skillshare, and everyone that made it out! I'm going to be dreaming about that crispy chicken until the next time I can make it myself, but at least I now know how. If you were there, drop us a review. Until next time...

Yelp's Summer Snazzy Jazzy Soiree

Posted by Xerxes N

Yelp Hampton Roads Elites and their +1s got to kick it for a very relaxing (and super fun) gathering at Havana Nights Jazz & Cigar Club in the heart of the Virginia Beach Town Center.

Folks started off the evening by participating in a meet your fellow Yelper contest that spanned throughout the evening. Yelpo, like Bingo, w as the name of the game and the first two people to a “full card” walked away with a bag full of Yelp schwag.

As Yelpers entered the Jazz Room they were graciously greeted by Bert Lowry, the General Manager of Havana Nights, who was mixing up sexy mojitos, educating Yelpers on various types of liquors and even taught us how to “spank our mint.” After grabbing drinks, Yelpers were off to food tastings from the kitchen. How good does slow roasted tomato bruschetta, ceviche and cubano on skewers sound? 3Specialty cocktails... Oh so good food... Yelpers in the mix... Can it get any better? But of course! On top of all the eating, drinking, mixing and mingling, everyone got to enjoy the live jazz sounds local artists, pianist Justin Kauflin and vocalist Charles Darden.4Congrats to first time Yelper Jamie S and Elite Squad member Julia A. These ladies were obvious Yelpo hits at this party as they were the first to full cards and winners of awesome Yelp schwag.

In the words of Elite Yelper Troy S, “we Yelp Elites know how to party in style.”

Yelp Brisbane Can Keep A Secret Elite Party

Posted by Lani P.

Take a classic Queenslander turned into an ever so charming vintage store, Can You Keep A Secret, add 20 Yelpers, gourmet strands of Spun Fairy Floss, tasty buns from The Bun Mobile and refreshing cider from Magners Australia and you have yourself a laidback Sunday Session.

Guests were treated to gourmet buns including twice-cooked pork, hoisin sauce, sakura pickled cucumber and shallot battons or the equally popular Wagyu Bun (slow cooked wagyu beef, butter lettuce, soy-pickled shitake mushrooms and Harry's own Red Dragon sauce) and sipped on the delicious traditional and pear cider by Magners.

As guitarist Johnnie Lin took to the floor with his tunes (and surprised us with his accordion skills), the dynamic duo behind Spun Fairy Floss spun us their gourmet fairy floss in flavours like Maple, Rose, and Coconut. Yelpers minds were in overdrive thinking of cocktails and recipes where fairy floss would be an essential ingredient.

As always, thank you to our great Yelpers for making our Elite event something to talk about and to our sponsors for the evening - we couldn't do it without you! Last, but not least, thanks to Matt from Blue Ink Creative for capturing the night in all its photographic glory!

See you at our next Elite event and until then, SYOY.

Yelp's Bow Ties & Bonnets Garden Party in Salt Lake City

Posted by Jeffrey

On a beautiful July evening, Yelp's Elite Squad in Salt Lake City gathered for a good old-fashioned summer garden party. The site for the event was the Grateful Tomato Garden, a shared urban community garden run by local non-profit Wasatch Community Gardens.

Garden Party Collage1

Once the dapper gang had assembled, Elites and their guests were treated to three-ingredient organic bread from the brand new Breadsong, an up and coming home bread delivery service in Salt Lake. They topped the bread with heirloom tomatoes from Adam's Heirlooms and the urban farmer himself was on hand to taste test new tomato varieties and share some garden knowledge with green-thumbed yelpers. Local treasure The Tea Grotto was there with terrific teas to taste, and to talk about their new location just blocks from the garden.

Garden Party Collage2

With mint juleps and refreshing fruited lemonades in hand, yelpers took to touring the garden, talking about their summer fun and learning about the work and programs of Wasatch Community Gardens. With big summer bonnets and a bevvy of bow ties, it was a picture of pure warm weather perfection!

Surf's Up, Yelpers!

Posted by Abby Schwarz

One of the many awesome perks of living in the Bay Area is the fact that we're so darn close to the ocean! And this past week, a select group of South Bay and Peninsula (even a few San Francisco) Elites got to experience the Pacific Coast up-close and personal during our Surf's Up @ The Surf Spot Elite Event.

Surf Spot Collage 1

The Surf Spot opened in June, welcoming guests to its signature dining and entertainment venue. Pacifica, a bedroom community known for its laid back vibe and breathtaking beauty, was selected by Chef/Partner Derek Burns and partners Taittan Cowan and David Szeto as the first of what they foresee as a string of dining/entertainment destinations up and down the California Coast. The food concept, driven by Burns, reflects not only the street foods he and his friends encounter while surfing the world, but also his years of experience working with some of San Francisco's most influential chefs such as Julian Serrano, Elka Gilmore, Joyce Goldstein and Jan Birnbaum.

No, we weren't actually surfing; rather, we were much better situated on land watching the sunset. Plus, everyone in attendance will tell you that The Surf Spot's offerings were much more warm and appealing than the ice cold ocean on a Tuesday night! The Yelp crew was given a private area out on the venue's expansive back patio, complete with cabana bar, serving Blue Angel Vodka martinis as well as Strike Brewing Company Blonde Ale. "Sunny weather, outdoor patio with fire pits, yummy food and good people. What a great way to spend a Tuesday summer evening in Pacifica!  Upon arrival the whole staff was welcoming and you could feel the nice cool vibe inside the restaurant," gushed Maria S.

Surf Spot Collage 3

Then came the food! A wide array of nibbles came out on trays, including Kalbi ribs, scallop/oyster bites, sweet 'n' sour chicken wings, meat pies, coconut shrimp, smoked bacon wrapped dates... just to name a few! "If that wasn't enough, squealed Cat V, "All of that fantasticness was followed by an array of desserts: carrotcake cupcakes, salted butterscotch pot de creme and lemon curd, topped with fresh whipped cream and served with both a raspberry and shortbread cookie." There was so much food, in fact, that there were leftovers sitting on the table. That's a very good sign at a party - it means everyone had plenty to eat and was completely satisfied with the offerings!

Surf Spot collage 4

The rest of the evening mirrored Surf Spot's chill atmosphere. Because it was an Elites-only affair, everyone spent their time getting to know their fellow yelpers while having a few more drinks and bites to eat (if they could handle it!). And Chef Derek graciously greeted the crowd, explaining the theme of the restaurant and ever-changing menu. As the sun set and the fog rolled in, guests crowded around the fire pits and cozied up in their sweaters or blankets and slowly but surely made their way back home. Hey, the party's gotta end sometime. The good news? Surf Spot has a few more fans! Elites like Tinna H said it very clearly: Pacifica is a quick hop, skip and jump away from us, so I have a feeling we'll be checking out the Surf Spot again very soon."

Agreed! Check out the reviews as well as beautiful photos taken by talented South Bay Elite Lorrie M

Chicago Elites Celebrate Early Oktoberfest @ Prost!

Posted by Danny Wurst

Some people like to celebrate Christmas in July, but what about Oktoberfest? Yelp Chicago put this question to the test by inviting 200 Yelpers to celebrate Oktoberfest a few months ahead of time at Prost! Our verdict? Early Oktoberfest is going to be the next big thing! Recently revamped and expanded, upon entering Prost! party goers and their guests were instantly transported from a sweltering Chicago summer day to a German beer hall, complete with dark wooden communal tables and benches. The staff, decked out in colorful dirndls, welcomed everyone by serving up 5 featured German Beers: Grieskirchner Pils, Bitburger Pils, Radeberget Pils, Erdinger Hefe Weiss, and Krostritzer Schwarzbier. For the non-beer drinkers, Prost! crafted up a beer cocktail named "Autumn Sky": a blend of Skyy Vodka, Grieskircher Pilsner, Clove Simple Syrup, Lemonade, Flimm Echte Bruehler Pflaume Plum-Liqueur, and Fresh Thyme. We'll raise our stein to that! Prost!
Prost Collage 1
All that beer can't be guzzled with a few snacks, right? Prost! served up some tasty nibbles in the form of: crab cake balls, duck pierogies, beets with goat cheese, crostini topped with sausage and cabbage, smoked salmon and pumpernickel bites, and samplings of their famous soft pretzel with beer cheese.
Prost Food
During the night, staff brought out giant boots of beer that Yelpers happily passed around. Luckily, photographer An Phan was on hand to snap up all the shots and more! Check out the pics for yourself here. This was truly an early Oktoberfest to remember and you can read all the guests' reviews here. Don't forget to follow us on Facebook and Twitter! Pittsburgh Loves A Generous Pour @ The Captal Grille

Posted by Rachel Carlson

A generous pour indeed! On Sunday, Pittsburgh Elites were treated to an afternoon delight of sipping and savoring at Yelp's Generous Pour Elite Event at The Capital Grille to celebrate their ongoing special summer event.

Capital Misc

"Really, folks...what says 'you're welcome here' more than being greeted at the door with a glass of sparkling Italian rosé?" commented Linda W. "The smiling staff of The Capital Grille handed each and every Yelper a lovely flute of bubbly before we even walked into the event! It certainly set the tone for the rest of the classy afternoon." From Lunetta Rose to Gary Farrell to Conn Creek Anthology plus six other wines, guests were treated to an education on pairing select wines with specific dishes. Fancy!

Capital Food

The restaurant spared no expense at treating Yelpers to a delicious spread of grilled veggies, tuna tarter cucmber slices, lobster sliders and sweet treats such as their signature creme bruleé. "The cheeses were excellent, the St Andre and the L'essence du Fromage Rouge Affinee were both gourmet treats." exclaimed David B. "The two most memorable wines were the French Bordeax and the Slovenian Rebula." Afficianado for sure!

Capital Wine

Everyone left with a gift bag of goodies plus lucky winner Phyllis K won a drawing for a gift card worth $200, so buddy up with PK and maybe she'll share the wealth! Heidi S reminices "Let's just say I was inspired by the GENEROUS Pour. It's hard to find anything wrong with drinking well selected wines on a Sunday afternoon in a dining room outfitted like the lodge of a robber baron with a crowd of elite yelpers. And the service was truly elite. The Capital Grille's opulent investment in the fine dining concept appears to have earned them their namesake."

A big thank you to The Capital Grille GM Rick McMaster and the amazing staff at for treating Yelpers to an increidbly swanky afternoon! Also, thanks to Ray Miles Photography for the fab photo's that you can check out here.

If you want to catch more of the event buzz, hop over to the event listing to read all about the excitement from your fellow yelpers.

It's always wine o' clock somewhere...

Yelp Indy Elites Get Shutter Happy at Fire By The Monon!

Posted by Nicole W

Yelp Indy Elites and their awesome +1's were able to split up the week with a gathering at Fire By The Monon on Wednesday evening in Broad Ripple Cultural District.

Upon checking-in, Yelpers had their picture taken (Polaroid-style) to be entered into a photo contest for a gift certificate to Fire By the Monon. All polaroids were displayed on a clothesline for co-owner, Vicki H, to select her favorite shot of the night. Elites made useful, funny and cool poses with the help of frame props graciously provided by Mass Ave's The Frame Shop at the Solar Flare Photography photo booth.

Party goers were more than happy to wet their palates with Hoosier Mama Bloody Marys and Margaritas, as well as a wide selection of craft beers. Elites nibbled on flatbreads with goat cheese and tomatoes, as well as onion rings and other goodies!

Don't take my word for it though – check out the reviews on Yelp!

Yelp Miami Pours It On

Posted by Johnny Todd

Another Elite event. Another rainstorm. But this time, the intrepid (and well-dressed) members of the Elite Squad were given a swanky Brickell address (and covered, valet parking) to woo them into an afternoon of wine, food and merriment. Steakhouse staple, The Capital Grille, hosted an intimate amount of Elites to Yelp’s Generous Pour.

YelpElite (AJH_20120722_ORP0563) YelpElite (AJH_20120722_ORP0568) YelpElite (AJH_20120722_ORP0571) YelpElite (AJH_20120722_ORP0574)

The professionals at The Capital Grille take truth in advertising very seriously. So, when they mention the word ‘generous,’ they mean it. They really mean it. Set in the magnificent — and newly renovated — main dining room, Elites, with glasses in hand, went from table to table to enjoy a wine experience like none other. Rare wines. Wines available only at The Capital Grille. Wines from around the world. Whichever kind of wine tipped ones glass, it was freely served, methodically explained and generously poured. With a line up like Simcic Rebula from Goriska Brda in Slovenia; Gary Farrell Chardonnay from Carneros in the Sonoma Valley; Conn Creek Anthology Cabernet from the Napa Valley; Ferrari-Carano Mountain Reserve Cabernet from the Alexander Valley; Chateau du Pin Bordeaux Blend from France; Falesco Assisi Rosso from the Umbria region of Italy; Villa Mt. Eden Grand Reserve Pinot Noir from the Russian River Valley; and Kanu Kia Ora Chenin Blanc from Stellenbosch in South Africa there was no way to go wrong.

YelpElite (AJH_20120722_ORP0566) YelpElite (AJH_20120722_ORP0580) YelpElite (AJH_20120722_ORP0582) YelpElite (AJH_20120722_ORP0657)

Lest one think that wine was the only star of the afternoon, The Capital Grille’s kitchen proved that to fully enjoy wine, it must be paired with the absolute right bites. So, with every tip, swirl and sip came culinary craftsmanship in the form of Smoked Chicken Crostini with White Bean and Crisp Shitake; Miniature Tenderloin Sandwiches with Wild Mushrooms and Boursin Cheese; Grilled Summer Vegetables; Artisanal Cheeses; Porcini Bisque; Tuna Tartare; Miniature Creme Brulee; and Flourless Chocolate Espresso Tartlets. Overwhelmed Elites were surrounded in a sea of gastronomic greatness!

YelpElite (AJH_20120722_ORP0562) YelpElite (AJH_20120722_ORP0587) YelpElite (AJH_20120722_ORP0599) YelpElite (AJH_20120722_ORP0594)

As guests were welcomed to the afternoon fete with a glass of sparkling rose and an addictive crab cake, there was little doubt that this would be an event for the ages. Even beyond the wine and food, the sincere and bar-raising service of the day was the true takeaway. Two Elites — Jan N and Sabrina Anna C — felt extra special because they won a return trip dinner for two from the restaurant. For the entirety of the event, Elites were treated like welcomed guests and old friends by server, chef and manager alike. This feeling carried over until the very end when attendees left with gift bags that included custom wine stoppers. Ace photog Alex H took the shots you can find here and excited Elites wrote their reviews here. From start to finish, it was obvious that while there may be no place like home, there’s also no pour like The Capital Grille’s.

Yelp Baltimore's Light Bright Night Sets the City Aglow!

Posted by Elsa M.

The great philosopher Vanilla Ice once said: "Turn off the lights, and I glow." If only he were Yelp Baltimore Elite. Imagine just how much he would have had at Yelp's Light Bright Night... a night filled with Bacardi, beef, and beats!

Screen Shot 2012-07-27 at 12.53.38 PM

More than 70 elites put on their brightest neon and glow-in-the-dark digs and got on down to The Get Down - one of Bmore's most beloved clubs. Heather Q "loved the wall over the dance floor that kept lighting up. It even had a packman scene at one point. How cool?!"

The exclusive dance party for Elites and their guests turned the entire club into one big Hasbro haze, with DJ Mic_L killin' the turn tables and elites droppin' it on the dance floor. "The DJ played music from the three decades of my life," says a still very-pumped Taheerah B. "I was jamming to reggae, Prince, Rihanna, Michael Jackson in the same night. I think I shouted 'That's my song' over 10 times."

The dance-machine elite also loved the flavored Bacardi Rums, which were "A M A Z I N G! The bartenders made cocktails that were truly out of this world. My favorite was the 'Cherry Coke.'" American Harvest also provided some liquid courage, much to Sam S' enjoyment. She loved the "vodka drinks so much, that she and her boyfriend made a note to pick some up" after the party.

South Carolina BBQ & Catering rolled up in its food truck pilled high with delectable pulled pork, ribs, pit beef, mac and cheese, and salad (for non-carnivore consumers), much to the delight of some very-hungry elites. The spread definitely won over Dan A: "I mean, you can't really go wrong with BBQ...but South Carolina BBQ & Catering really stepped up to the plate and hit a home run! The ribs were moist and meaty, the pulled pork was tender, and the beef brisket had a wonderful hickory smoke flavor to it."

Screen Shot 2012-07-27 at 1.14.50 PM

A counter for glow-in-the-dark makeup counter was set up adjacent to the fabulous Charm City Photo Booths mobile studio, which had more props than elites could have ever hoped for. Ada G tried to take the entire photography team home: "I want one of those booths in my house!"

In the words of Syreeta B: "I don't think there was a single person at this event who didn't have a great time. I loved it and can't wait until we all meet again!"

WOOHOO! Will do :)

Until then, check out more pictures here and SYOY!

Melbourne Elite Event: A Night Of Surprise At Outré Gallery

Posted by Tresna

Oh, what a treat! 60 Melbourne Yelpers were not quite sure what to expect when rolling in from the drizzly rain in to the warm surrounds of Outré Gallery last night.

On its own, Outré is a place that captivates and inspires - from bright and poppy to dark and mysterious, the art on the walls had tongues wagging and the credit cards quickly warmed up!

PicMonkey Collage1

Throw in some Dark 'N' Stormy cocktails from Sailor Jerry Rum whipped up by the effervescent Storme and you can imagine just how quicky things warmed up. With rum, ginger beer and a big squeeze of lime, these drinks went down a treat with the crowd.

PicMonkey Collage2

Of course you can't hit the cocktails without a bite or two, now can you?  That's where Danny and Damo from Phat Brats came in, sending round after round of mini dogs to the mingling crowds. With three kinds to choose from - The Superfood Veggie, Wagyu Beef and Pork and Sage – these were hotdogs with a difference!

How does a pork and sage sausage with braised apple and red cabbage, shaved fennel, aioli and puffed pork crackling sound? Bloody delicious if you ask us!

PicMonkey Collage3

And so after two hours of good food, great art, delicious cocktails and vibrant conversations, yelpers went out in to the night having had just a little bit of magic brought to the middle of their week. Thank you to lovely staff at Outré Gallery for hosting us and the generous folk at Phat Brats and Sailor Jerry Rum.

Also - thank you to Eileen from Birds Of Unusual Vitality for the great photos.

Want more?

Until next time Yelpers... SYOY!

Sacramento Elites Are Livin' La Vida Fresca...Round Uno!

Posted by Alex L

There is nothing like gathering with your favorito amigos in a great atmoshpere and being showered with a seemingly endless parade of scrumtious food and adult beverages. Judging from the response to Wednesday night's "Livin' La Vida Fresca Uno" at Chevys on the River, no one seems to understand this better that Chevys!

Chevys Fresh Mex launched a brand revitalization this year, returning to its border cantina roots and putting the focus back on its fresh standards with revamped menus, new creative elements and an enhanced guest experience. From moment one, it showed.

Their expansive indoor and outdoor upstairs area (with breathtaking views of the river) was a virtual wonderland of all the amazing elements Chevys is known for, starting with "fresh Mex" that would make any actual Mexican drool with envy. Ridiculously beautiful servers marched out tray after tray of shrimp, chicken and steak skewers, chicken and beef taquitos ("The mango salsa was very refreshing and a nice textural complement to the crispiness of the taquito," exclaims Derick F), and according to Karla Marie D, "incredible mouth-watering crab and shrimp flautas that I couldn't get enough of. The food was on point!" There were even brownies for dessert that were "so moist and chocolatey, I wanted to lick the napkins," admits Anthony P.

Untitled 2
The grub was easily rivaled by the free-flowing drinks, which included Chevy's huge, famous margaritas in multiple flavors, fruity shots and what was called a "Bulldog" - basically a margarita with a mini-Corona attached for extra flavor and kick. Everything was made with quality El Jimador tequila! Reports Diane S: "You'd think after a pomegranate, tequila and squirt concoction, a margarita with a beer in it, a shot of El Jimador and a Corona, I'd be done for, but nope. I feel like a million bucks! Which speaks to the quality of the tequila that Chevys serves up!"

We could go on and on, but let's let influential elite Darina H sum it up: "The service was AMAZING. Even the manager came around to greet us and thank us for coming, such a nice gesture. Just when my belly almost began to explode from a regular belly to a food baby belly, we left with such contentment in our hearts and stomach...only to find that they had goodie bags for us on our way out and free sombreros and shirts!!! SO NICE! QUE BUENO!"

Her assessment is echoed in the 5-star reviews from numerous elite and non-elite yelpers who swear to return and spread the word about this wonderful, revitalized Chevy's locale! Check out the photos from Phil Isidro of everyone's happy, smiling faces! At Chevys, there’s always a reason for a fiesta!

There are two more Sacramento Chevys events in Rocklin and Elk Grove, so look for more updates soon!

Posted by Claudia R

When the hot gets tough, tough Yelpers get going! On Monday 23rd Milan won the game against Caronte, Minosse, Circe and all the other hot cyclons and the secret weapons were yummy ice creams on sticks offered by Stickhouse, a newly opened place whose owner, Maddalena B, is a yelper! Everyone had the chance of tasting her delicious products and Yelpers who checked in on mobile got a special ice cream gift too!

Elite Yelpers were gifted with special red Yelp sunglasses, that allow them to explore the world even when it's too hot, then we had our June&July Oscars night! And the winners were...  Vincenzo M, Mr. June, who gained the title for a few votes against Giovanni R, and Piero V, Mr. July, a new but exceptional entry in the Elite! If yuou were not with us read the reviews or have a look at the photos! Did I forgot anything? Shout it on our talk thread and don't lose our next Elite Event in Milan!

Boston Yelpers Benefit From A Generous Pour at The Capital Grille

Posted by Damien S

Make no miSTEAK, Boston Elites sipped from only the finest vines and snacked on legendary morsels this Sunday night, as The Capital Grille invited a group of Boston's best in the Yelp community to partake in A Generous Pour!

Featuring a list of handpicked wines by George Miliotes, TCG's Master Sommelier, the bounty of Bruts and gaggle of Grüners flowed like... well, you know. From the bright apertif Lunetta Rosé through the Ferrari-Carano Cab to the Kanu Kia Ora Chenin Blanc finish (and all the "Orange Wine" in between), palates were pushed and pleased by the world-class offerings.

But did the spoils end at the vine? Never! A spread of incredible cheeses and roasted vegetables sat ripe for the picking, and pick Amy B did favoring the "red peppers and sundried tomatoes – I think they were pickled in unicorn tears or something equally magical." Of course, it wouldn't be The Capital Grille without tray after tray of perfectly prepared proteins! Steak tartare, smoked chicken crostini and crab & lobster sliders made their rounds to enthusiastic tasters, and the bites wrapped with mini raspberry-topped crème brûlées and flourless espresso chocolate cakes. Check please!

Each guest left the house with a goodie bag listing the night's wines, a Yelp Elite watch and "the best truffles I've ever had in my life," so sez Sally B. And one lucky Yelper won dinner for two back at The Capital Grille (spoiler alert: twas Kelly M!).

Tatsu captured the magic on Flickr and Facebook (Like the page to tag) and the Talk boards continue to buzz as the five-star reviews roll in. Big ups to all who attended, including a very special pair of VIPs who stole the show: my parents!

Yelp's Starting Something Spanish At Sandinista! Leeds!

Posted by Rowena Harris

Somehow the weather always seems to hold for us Yelping folk here in Leeds, and such was the case last Thursday the 19th July, when some forty plus folk descended upon one of Leeds' finest, and longest-running stalwarts on the bar scene. That's right, our fabulous community had the honour of attending yet another exclusive event, which was the grand menu launch for Sandinista! Cantina Bar's latest gourmand offerings – lovingly and creatively put together by no less than Simon Ord and Anthony Flinn. (Owner of Sandinista! and owner of Anthony's, respectively.)Sandis2

And so it was that some of Leeds finest press community, notably North Leeds Life and Yorkshire Post, joined the Yelp Elites for a beautifully relaxed evening of tasting, scoffing, and delectable cocktails in the laid back atmosphere of Sandinista! Cantina Bar. First on the agenda were the welcome drinks and, as everyone arrived, the fantastic staff prepped a selection of four reviving libations for folks to take their pick of.

As folks had a mingle, either reminding themselves fondly of the space, or taking it in anew for the first time, they supped away on the range of refreshing drinks. Hazel G, of Luscious Liquids, lovingly met everyone's requests, and served up a fantastic range of cocktails that included Arette Tequila, Bulldog Gin, Appleton Estate rum, and Pama pomegranate liqueur, all freshly made. *For a list of the drinks, see at the bottom!

"The cocktails were delicious and a-plenty! I really like tequila and I think it is not used enough in cocktails... not any more! That lemony tequila one was AMAZING and now shall be a regular in my household! Whoop!" April K

Whilst some guests had only known Sandinista! as a place of carousal, deep into a weekend night, it was the perfect opportunity for folks to (re)discover it as a place of divine cuisine, relaxation, expert cocktails, and of course, the place to get the party started, as day moves into night! But, it was primarily an evening of palatable sapidity on this night, as everyone soon discovered.

"I'm new to the Yelp community, and I really enjoyed this exclusive event, which was my first. The food was delicious and plentiful, the cocktails were authentic and delightful." Asaf C

Firstly came appetisers in the form of freshly baked breads, oils and dips, which were swiftly followed by some seafood fare, that will fast make Sandinista! famous about town. Most notably for some were the salt cod croquettes, and calamari, all of which were consumed as swiftly as they came. *For a full list of the menu, see at the bottom!

"The real standout stars of the evening however were the staff: they were all so friendly. It can't be easy to whiz around providing free drinks and tapas to hordes of hungry people, but they did it with a smile on their faces." Hannah J

Sandis11The journey of edible delights quickly moved on to delightful patatas bravas, pimientos del padron, and feta stuffed peppers, which kept everyone's mouths aroused and tastebuds teased whilst the drinking and cavorting continued.

"What a night, the food was amazing, of course the cocktails helped get me in the social spirit, but everything i tried i would come back and have as a main." Joe C

As if the bringers of food would never cease feeding the masses, once several more incredibly mouth watering plates were delivered (including tender rump steak, pork loin, pulled pork with squid ink rice for the meatier munchers) the pinnacle dish arrived. A spaceship sized steaming dish of fresh paella, enough to make each person's eyes as wide as saucers. Without announcement an impromptu round of applause erupted out, by the guests, for such a feat!

"These dishes though were just the lead up to main event of the evening, the paella. This thing was HUGE. Really. Search Google Images for 'Jodrell Bank radio telescope' and imagine that, on its side, piled high with rice, chicken, squid, and langoustines. And it was really good." Matt W

And were we done? Not a chance. Soothing the savoury, came sweet solice, with their sublime desserts – almond covered chilli chocolate tarts and Crema Catalana. Despite almost being defeated by such a feast, every last Yelper managed a mouthful or two of the final course, and savoured each morsel. To end the night, everyone stayed on to polish off the remainder of those epic cocktail jugs, which lent us enough time to present Ben H his award for the PhotoHunt of June, as part of Yelp's Passport To Leeds City Centrecongrats to Ben for his fabulous winning picture!

"The gastronomic highlight for me was chili chocolate tart at the end, which was absolutely amazing." Chris T

Never has the Yelp community seen such a merrymaking, such a banquet, before! And so this brings me to lay down an immense appreciation to Sandinista! Cantina Bar, Katy, Cat, Kevan, Angela, and all their fabulous staff for the efforst to which they went, and the generosity bestowed upon Yelp Leeds! Thanks go out to Hazel, of Luscious Liquids for the fine libations, and Matthew Kitchen for his happy papping and fab snaps. Want to see the gossip? Check the reviews and pictures right here! Want to grab a taster of that delicious looking grub? Get on it and book a table – you won't be disappointed...

That's it from me, so until the next glorious event, I'll be seeing you on the Yelp side. Boom!

Vegas Elites Quaff Generous Pours At The Capital Grille

Posted by Misti Yang

You may have thought you know how to celebrate a Sunday Funday, but your day's celebration simply couldn't compare to Sunday's Elite event at The Capital Grille in Vegas. In celebration of their Generous Pour Summer Wine Event, the renowned steakhouse invited Elites out to enjoy bottomless wines and an array of delectable eats from savory to sweet. Of course, Elites were more than happy to oblige.

While perched above the Strip, Yelpers sipped from wine stations with selections featured during Generous Pour: Cheateau Du Pin, Bordeaux; Lunetta Rose, Sparkling Wine; Simcic, Rebula; Gary Farrell, Chardonnay; Conn Creek, Anthology, Cabernet Sauvignon; Ferrari-Carano, Mountain Reserve, Cabernet Sauvignon; Falesco, Assisi Rosso, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese; and Villa Mt. Eden, Grand Reserve, Pinot Noir. At ever stop, highly-knowledgeable and personable staff made sure to educate the revelers on the finer points of the wine. Mindy K notes quite accurately, "The star of the event was the wine!"

And, then there was the food: Sirloin Crostini with Balsamic Onions and Roquefort cheese, Tuna Tartar on a fresh slice of cucumber, Steak Tartar on a homemade crostini, Smoked Salmon on a pita chip, Miniature lobster and crab cakes; and for dessert a Mini Cheesecake tart and Mini Flourless espresso tart! Monica M reminisces, "I especially enjoyed the lobster crabcakes and could have easily eaten them all day. My hubby probably would have eaten a troft of the roasted tomatoes if I'd let him."

As Heather H summarizes: "I am a huge fan of the venue, because Capital Grille has amazing food and service and dang what a view.  Add in free, generously poured wine (we aren't talking Franzia boxed wine either), really nice, knowledgable servers and some of they best appetizers, and this event hit it out of the park." Be sure to peruse the gorgeous pictures from Anthony M on Flickr, and read all of the sweet, savory and aromatic details in the 5-star reviews!

Until next time, in vino veritas!

East Meets West Elite Event at Chaya Brasserie

Ladies and gentlemen of the West and East,
Were invited to a spectacular feast,

Dressed in their best,
For an Elite event of 'East Meets West'.

Chaya Brasserie had us finger lickin'
After samplings of their wood-grilled dijon chicken.

Their coffee glazed pork spare rib with chipotle sauce
Coupled with a Bourbon Smash caused severe mind loss.

While the salted watermelon cubes were refreshing,
And the Spice Prickly Pear Margarita provided a little zing.

Beats were pumped all night long
Thanks to DJ FlightCrew's choice of song.

Much appreciation goes to all of Chaya's fantastic staff for keeping the food in abundance and the cocktails flowing! The night can be fondly remembered courtesy of Picture Healing and Caliendo Photography. See the pics on the LA Flickr Page and read the glowing reviews here.

Fort Worth Yelpers Wine Down @ The Capital Grille!

Perhaps the only thing that might make a relaxing Sunday more luxurious is the perfect wine, some delectable bites and the company of the 100 Fort Worth yelpers who eased into the new Capital Grille in downtown Fort Worth recently. From the word go they were treated to a variety of elements of the good life, and from the looks of things, that went over just fine, thankyouverymuch.

"A MOST excellent event!" noted Stephanie L: "We sampled some wonderful wine, appetizers, and some of the yummiest creme brulee ever!  And Angela H agreed, sharing "Love me a cold spread with wine that warms your soul." Warm indeed!

Still, the day held happy endings in store, from miniature creme brulee to chocolate tarts to amazing dessert wine, and yelpers walked away with a treasure trove of prizes in gift bags. All in all, a terrific way to spend an Elite Afternoon: with one another. In the words of Crystal P, "the gift bags were a very nice touch, and the whole event screamed elegance and class."

Can't wait for the next one!

Yelp's Capital Gluttonment Elite Event

Posted by BrettNehls

The Capital Grille in Tampa served up a softball to its collective Yelp Elites, and one by one, the ball was knocked out of the park. What would typically be a lazy Sunday afternoon, quickly transformed into a day for wine lovers to rejoice and consume!

Capital Grille_CG_fix

The Capital Grille is a dining-experience, not simply just a meal. That's why this event consisted of much more than only the food and drinks. Birthday girl, Elizabeth B shouts a big "thank you to the General Manager for the tour of the private dining area. The neatest part was seeing where they dry-aged the meat! This event was fantabulous! It's great to be Elite!"

Capital Grille_Yelp

Elites assembled from all-across Tampa Bay and from as far out as Orlando to enjoy our gracious event host. Experienced Elites were wowed and new Elites, like Katie C had their eyes-opened to the new, beautiful world of Yelp events. "The setup was lovely: I enjoyed the mingling opportunities and the ability to go at my own pace," she cheered. "Both the food and wine had us convinced that we need to come back to The Capital Grille for a nice evening out! Quick: someone think up a special occasion for me to celebrate!"

Capital Grille_food_fix
The food...the food! There was no shortage of deliciousness at The Capital Gluttonment, with delights such as; Crab Cake Sandwiches, Chicken Crostini with White Bean and Crisp Shitake, Mini Tenderloin Sandwiches with Wild Mushrooms, Seasonal Vegetables with Artisanal Cheeses, and Crème Brûlée. But Cari E's favorite of the night was the porcini bisque, which was "down-right fabulous–It made me never want to eat soup out of anything but espresso cups for the rest of my life." She also mentions the impressive wait-staff that acted like "silent ninjas" as they served and cleaned up after our large entourage. "Capital Grille was everything I expected and more."

Capital Grille_wine_fix
The wine...the wine! This event was acutally a promotion of The Capital Grille's Generous Pour event, which Lauren C thoroughly outlines."For $25, you can enjoy 9 world-class wines paired with your dinner, chosen by the Capital Grille's Master Sommelier, George Miliotes. These wines were incredible, so this is a great deal." But in terms of the Yelp event, she raves that the "wine tastings and pairings were well-organized and the event had such a nice flow. I enjoyed chatting with other Yelpers and learning about these wines in such a beautiful setting."

Capital Grille_people_fix

The people...the people! The Yelpers showed up in full force and mingled 'til the cows came home. (What does that even mean, anyway?) Photography at the event was executed beautifully by Rebecca and Tom Hagen with Blink of an Eye Photographic Arts in Tampa. Of course, no Yelper takes a bad photo, so your confusion is underastandable if you thought these pictures were from a fashion magazine.

Thanks again to everyone involved – The Capital Grille management, the hard-working "ninja" staff, the chefs in the back, and thanks to all the Yelpers for coming out!

Hugs and Handshakes,

Nothing But Triple Turkeys For Yelp Manhattan @ Lucky Strike

The Shepard Fairey-loving crew at Manhattan's Lucky Strike Lanes, just a nine-pound toss from the Hudson, marked the backdrop for a Yelp Elite Event worthy of an appearance from The Dude himself.

Lucky strike 1
To fuel up for the two hours of Olympic-like athletic performances, Yelp Elites were treated to everything from coconut shrimp to bacon/cheddar sliders to pizza, and everything in between. You know, the type of sustenance you remember enjoying when you were a littlier you at the neighborhood bowling alley... but much, much tastier.

Lucky strike 2
It's not a night on the lanes without an ice cold beverage to stay hydrated, and Heineken ensured there was no shortage of ice cold brewskis to keep the A-Game rolling. For reviews of the soiree, guide your rodent this way. For pictures, click here. 300, here we come!

Apéro Sunshine Elite Yelp @ UndARTground !

Posted by Julie M

Vive Yelp !"

--------------------------------ENGLISH NOW !-------------------------

Sunday, sunny sunday with good music, exotic food and nice beverages. Put it all in the oldest neighborhood of Marseille - Le Panier - which hosts this brand new concept-store called UndArtGround. Add about 150 guests and you have this delightful Yelp Elite Event Apéro Sunshine @ UndArtGround !

Life is unfair maybe but the weather is shiny in Marseille this summer, that's why Yelp came to UndArtGround. In this little street around 8pm when the sun goes down on us, only the liner boats heading to Corsica can distract the Yelpers from partying ! UndArtGround is a store that brings together some local artists. Street art is the main purpose but Julien C, the owner is wildly open to beautiful and nice things ! For this party, he made a counter to provide some La Cagole beer and wine to the Yelpers.

The nearby restaurant Le 9.7.4. made some special food, with recepies from La Réunion, Guadeloupe, Martinique... As exotic as the sun ! Christine G has been smitten by the "delicious food and the warm welcome" in this new and already great restaurant. Accras, Samoussas, brochettes... it was all amazing

As Marseille will be European Capital of Culture in 2013, the association in charge of this huge year was there with the Yelpers. A special activity was planned but the music was so good, people were chilling out on this sunday night. So MP2013 decided to run this activity at the next Elite Event... be there ! Still the guests got a numbered sticker... The winner had 2 bags with special gifts from Yelp and MP2013 to know everything about this once-in-a-lifetime year !

For Marie A "it was the best Yelp Event so far". "Some good music, happy faces... here I go !" said Philippe C newly turned into an Elite ! If you want to see all those happy faces on Xavier S pictures click here ! And if you want to read all the reviews about this party, click there !

Yelp's Mid Summer's Ice Cream @Tartes Kluger + Clasico Argentino

Posted by Elodie

3Last Wednesday, about a hundred Parisian Yelpers gathered for the first real summer party of the season, in the heat of the tiny and adorable Rue du Forez, to try some of tartes Kluger's delicious tarts and Clasico Argentino's fabulous Ice Cream. Clasico Argentino's Ice Cream Truck, "El Carrito" was there for the occasion to bring some animation to the street. From 7:30 to 9:30pm, guests tried a wide variety of audacious tarts and seasonal sorbets. Strawberry, Melon, Dulce De Leche or Vanilla... The sweetest night ever.

We cannot do anything else but confirm Daphnée A's undebatable equation: "Yelp + Tartes Kluger + Clasico Argentino's Ice Cream Truck = AWESOMENESS"

As summer finally kicked in, it was a perfect opportunity to indulge with anything sweet and sun-filled. So for all Yelpers who stayed in Paris this summer, Yelp had planned everything: from artisanal Strawberry syrup, to a fresh and intense Malbec Cédrus, a fruity Gascogne, the Aramis Blanc, a dry Laval Blanc, to a delicate and light red wine, the Poete Gamay. Sous Les Pavés La Vigne never disappoints !

On the savoury side of things, Marie D, freshly recruited in the Parisian Elite Squad, found a personality in each tart: "the childish sweetness of the peas-mint-tuna tart. The tangy and mutinous carrot-lemon-coriander tart, and the Globe trotter with chicken and curry tomatoes".

All in all, it was hard to end the party and leave the street ! 2 years after the 1st Elite event here, the neighbourhood still stands out as one of the friendliest little spot in the Marais, especially when it is taken over by 100 Yelpers ! Fanny B found everybody especially merry, despite the terrible weather Paris had been experiencing so far. Actually, "no one was on holiday, but no one had any reason to complain about working in Paris during July: if Yelp keeps organising such amazing after-work parties, we shall work all summer long !"

Yelp Elites Cap Off The Weekend At The Capital Grille

Posted by Michelle C

Yelp Elites and their guests were able to close out the weekend with a lovely cocktail reception at The Capital Grille on Sunday afternoon in Cherry Hill, NJ. This event was the second in a Choose Your Own Yelpventure month, where Elites had the ability to choose between two different events in July.

Party goers were more than happy to partake in the Capital Grille's Generous Pour summer wine event, which features nine wines from around the world. Each wine was paired with tastes from the menu for ultimate enjoyment.
YEE Philadelphia 72212 A gigantic antipasto station anchored the front of the room while passed hors d'oeuvres including miniature tenderloin sandwiches with house-made boursin cheese, crabcake sliders and tuna tartare impressed big-time. Midway through the party, our hosts welcomed guests and raffled off a $150 gift card. Clayton L was the lucky Yelper to receive the prize! Every guest left a winner, though, with swag bags containing chocolate truffles and other goodies.
YEE Philadelphia 72212 2The staff at The Capital Grille were awesome hosts and provided a great way to cap off the weekend. Don't take my word for it though – check out all the pics, reviews and chatter on Yelp!

Yelp's On A Boat @ Oklahoma River Cruises!

Posted by Julie P

Members of the Yelp OKC Elite Squad were treated to an evening of local luxury when they set sail on Oklahoma River Cruises! What better way to enjoy a summer evening than a sunset cruise with OKC's best Yelpers?

As each Elite and guest checked in, everyone got lei-d! Elites also received Yelp sunglasses so they could watch the sunset in style. Not only did Elites get a killer view of the community from a different perspective while rolling on the river, they also got a crash course in the best local fare the city has to offer.

Boat elite one

Once on board, guests could grab a cold cup of COOP Ale Works beer. The OKC brewery served up their Native Amber and Horny Toad to thirsty Elites from prow to stern! A glass of Spanish red or white could also be had for the wine drinkers aboard the ship. A funny safety speech from Captain Mark kicked off the evening and set the tone for a fun night on the water.

Boat Elite two
When everyone had their sea legs about them, Norman's farm-to-fork restaurant was on hand to serve up fine foodstuffs! LOCAL treated Elites to a wide array of yummy bites, all made from locally sourced ingredients. The menu included bruschetta, house made goat cheese and beets on crostini, lamb belly on toast points and watermelon with a balsamic reduction. Talk about a gourmet galley! Even the flowers were grown just a few miles from the Oklahoma River.

Boat Elite three

Add a yacht rock playlist, lots of cozy conversations between Elites – many of whom were meeting for the first time – and the sunset against the Oklahoma City skyline, and it all added up to a five-star evening. If you weren’t there or want to relive the evening, the expert eye of Bruce Layman managed to snap every moment of the 5-star night. Gaze at his stellar shots here. If you’re a fan of the written word, take a peek at what guests said here.

Yelp Summermarket @ Amsterdam

Posted by Philippine

What to do when you know all these truly great, passionate and local businesses? And it's summer in Amsterdam? Well, you arrange for a an awesome location, a permit and you call all these wonderful owners and behold! There was the Yelp's Summermarket! Nothing would taste the same after Friday 20th July... People lined up from 7 PM on to enter the great location, provided by the sports accomodation Swift. This is THE korfball and tennis accomodation in Amsterdam Centre. The location is so central, specious and because of Jos, it was the recipe for success... The SummermarketThe Amsterdam Picnic Company provided a relaxing picknickfield for everyone to lie in the sun and taste the amazing Gazpacho, salmon bites and Spritz. Together with Tostissimo's exquisite and luxurious grilled "tosti's", Yelpers lied on these adorable and colourful blankets in the grass, simply enjoying the long-expected rays of sun and watch people stroll by.Picknicking YUMMM

If you didn't know Pintxo yet, well you do know now... These great little goodies from Basque (North-Central part of Spain), called 'Pintxos' are the best bites during 'cocktail time' and match perfectly with the crisp Txakoli white wine that Luuk served. The sweettooth-fairies couldn't be happier than hanging out at the Amsterdam Cupcake Company! Cake pops, different types of cupcakes, dipped in sprinkles: it was divine. Accompanied by Simply Skin, I think it's safe to say that this was the 'girly corner'. Vivienne makes all of her skincare products herself, from bodybutters to footcare and from facialcare to non-allergic and products for the sensitive skintypes. How cool is that?!Pintxos! and the girly cornerDecadence galore! The one and only Oysterman of Zilt&Zalig Marcus knows how to treat people, and how to treat them well: while he's opening the superfresh oysters, he speaks proudly and enthusiastically about his products. After you've gulped down your oyster, he fills your shell with a matching drink to let you experience what 'good taste' is all about. Caterina of Olivity showed us that 1) low cholesterol, 2) low on suger and 3) Gluten-free can be -hands down- tasty! If you didn't know any better, you'd have no idea that her Loukoumata, breadsticks & dippings, and spinach-feta rolls are actually this healthy! Luxe KipjesAnd then there was.... truffle. Truffle, truffle, truffle everywhere! Massimo made his own trufflerisotto-croquettes for Yelpers to taste and together with his truffle-infused honey & cheese-combination, Yelpers went wild! The great Grand Ginger cocktails of Grand Marnier, served in this pretty red bubble-shaped glass were the refreshing cocktail of the evening... You can imagine, after a few of these, the Yelpers became even more competative at the Fussball-tableTruffle meets Cocktails meets Fussball

No Yelper Party without an amazing wine-tasting of Found! Inge pours three astonishing wines in this cute 3-glass-holder and you have to drink your wines from left to right, in order to really taste these wines and bring out the flavour. But, there's more! You can ask Found to decorate your party / event / festivity as they collect these cute vintage items! So they transformed part of the venue and made this elegant Vintage Photobooth! Olive from The Bee's Knees Kitchen showed her passion: she organizes these great baking-workshops on Saturday afternoons, which is so much fun to do with a group of friends! So she demonstrated how to make Madeleines on the spot and handed out these famous French delicacies. She paired up with Hotel Chocolat and to be frank, there is no better chocolate! Hotel Chocolat has the unique status of being a cocoa grower (they have their own plantations!) as well as a chocolatier, and that's something you can taste in their chocolate: pure, authentic and simply heavenly chocolates!Photobooth, chocolat and Madeleines

Dear Esther, Luuk, Serge, Faryel, Vivienne, Marcus, Caterina, Massimo, Paul / Hamdi / Joris / Kim / Stefan, Hotel Chocolate, Olive and Inge, I want to thank you so much for your exquisite products, your generosity, and showing us how cool & passionate you truly are! Dear Jos, Jeroen en Ed, thank you so much for the great location Swift and all of your help. We couldn't have done this without you

Dear Yelpers and guests, it was such a pleasure welcoming you at this first Yelp's Summermarket in Amsterdam! We will see you again in December.... (yes, that's a HINT). Until then, read the reviews and glance at the magnificent photos of 'our' Yelp Amsterdam photographer Dennis Veldman. OMG, this man knows how to create the most ravishing images!See you all in December!

Yelp Zomermarkt @ Amsterdam

Posted by Philippine

Soooo lucky, the weather was awesome! Bodybutters, gezichtsverzorging, massage en allergie-vrije producten, you know name it, Viv's got it. Truffel, truffel, truffel, overal truffel!! So much to do in so little time

Thank you all for this great evening!

PVD Elites Experience Generosity Like Never Before @ The Capital Grille's Generous Pour Elite Event

Posted by Hilary H

The Capital Grille was more than generous with their Generous Pour Elite Event on Thursday night in Providence – they went all out for us! Add to the delectable wines, fabulous food and swoon-worthy crooner the dazzling white attire of each guest, and we had a truly elegant evening on our hands! In the words of Monika S, "it was a gorgeous night and perfect setting for wine and cheese – five stars all the way!"

Carly B "felt the presence of white-clad Elite guardian angels at work gifting us a gorgeous summer night for a patio party" perfect for sipping "the sparkling rose and my favorite, the smooth Slovenian Simcic." Melanie D found the bartenders to be "very friendly and helpful with making recommendations and explaining the details" of the selected wines. "The Capital Grille was on top of its game last night when it came to wine selection," gushes Aly K, who loved that "each glass was hand-picked and delicious!"

"Now let's get down to the good stuff: the unlimited glasses of delicious wines and endless trays of mind-blowing food." Kisha T's "favorites were the beef and lobster sliders. Sweet sassy molassy, these were incredible! The steak was cooked to perfection and the lobster chunks were huge, buttery and delicious." For those of the vegetarian persuasion, the "roasted veggies were perfectly-cooked," but Marcy L lost her curd over the "cheese table! The fig compote was delicious, as was the brie." The tuna tartare on cucumber was "a perfect, fresh summer bite" in Carly B's mouth.

"Generous is quite the understatement for this event!" Erin R "knew going into it that it would be classy, but never expected to be serenaded" by the sweet musical stylings of Tony Cerbo, who was "crooning away" for the duration of the evening. It was "an absolutely perfect summer evening, sipping the very best of Capital Grille's wine selection! All of this while being completely surrounded by white had me convinced that I had died and gone to heaven." Not so, Erin – just downtown PVD!

"The Capital Grill put together an amazing tasting" and was indeed "very generous with the pour. The food was excellent." Justin B saw Brad Smith "everywhere snapping photos," and Mark S thought Shutterbooth was so much fun, he's ready to put "one of those in my house!"

Until next time, my little angels!

Yelp Sydney’s Wonderful Art & Wine Evening @ Gaffa

Posted by Ben B.

Last night Sydney’s Elite Yelpers were treated to an evening of fun and frivolity at Gaffa, an art gallery and studio space located in a beautiful 3-story heritage building in the heart of the CBD. Committed to nurturing collaboration, collectivity and cohesion within Sydney’s contemporary arts community, Gaffa gave Yelpers a taste of their inspirational creativity and hosted a night that will live large in the memory.

Gaffa collage 1

With James the sax man setting the scene with mood music from the mezzanine, Gaffa’s ground-floor arcade spaces were transformed into creative pop-up stations where Yelpers played ping pong, watched a live video installation and unleashed their inner 6-year old in the collaborative art room.

Gaffa collage 2.1

The bar was a hotbed of activity with Yelpers enjoying world class New Zealand vino courtesy of master winemakers Giesen. The super smooth Merlot warmed the cockles on a chilly evening, and there was some serious double-fisting going on with the Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, the #2 selling white wine in all of Australia! There was even more in store up on the gallery level, where Sydney rep Rob conducted a tasting of Giesen’s Riesling and their sensational Pinot Grigio amongst the innovative artwork on display.

Gaffa Collage 3

One of the undoubted hits of the evening were the incredible edibles dished up by Chris, the maestro behind local heroes Black Star Pastry. Yelpers queued for his beer & brisket pie, tomato galette with truffled gorgonzola and a Godzilla-sized Black Forest cake, a special treat normally available only on weekends.

Gaffa Collage 4

When prize time rolled around the girls swept the pool with Jill H snaffling a $100 voucher for Sterling, Gaffa’s jewellery and gift shop, and Hayley B scoring a Giesen prize pack consisting of a bottle of fantastic wine, a wine bucket and a snazzy apron.

Many thanks to the Kelly, Amy, Nina, and Andy at Gaffa for an unbelievably fun evening, and to Sam Macdonald from Sam Macdonald Photography for providing the happy snaps on the night. Until next time . . . SYOY!

Vancouver Elites Say Sayonara Spring, Hapa To Yelp You, Summer!

Posted by Robin

The skies parted, the sun came out, and hundreds of Vancouver's finest Elites were finally able to say Sayonara Spring, Hapa to Yelp You, Summer this past Monday, July 16 at Hapa Izakaya's newest location in Coal Harbour.

Arriving in style for a true VIP experience, Elites were escorted to Hapa's sleek and modern room by the sea, courtesy of Uber town cars and a Yelp promotion. Melissa C exclaims, "All on my iPhone, setting up an account and a pick-up location with a simple click was all it took to summon a private and luxurious ride downtown." Meana K noticed, "A lineup of stripes and sailor hats promptly at 7pm" being swiftly checked-in by Hazel of Venuewize before stepping in to a grand and open space with a gorgeous view. "Yelp's taken a step up, with their fancy iPad check-ins and classy members who dress their part, sipping sake amidst the Coal Harbour sunset background."

Immediately proving why Hapa was voted one of the “Top Five Izakayas In North America” by Bon Appétit Magazine in 2011, the staff were all hands on deck, offering a winning combination of a sexy room, excellent service, outstanding Japanese tapas, and the best in liquid libations. Driftwood Ale, and Diamond and Gokujo sake helped Elites sail through the room, while the evening's big surprise was the Absolut Elyx, "a brand spankin' new and very ultra smooth vodka that you just have to sip straight or on the rocks. It's so smooth you feel like you're tasting just the essence of vodka off the ice cubes rather than drinking pure vodka. Amazing."

"Choice tracks were playing" courtesy of resident DJ She, while "Plentiful and mouthwatering edibles were served armada style, dish after succulent dish flowing through the beautiful Hapa room effortlessly by the gorgeous Hapa staff. Libations were flowing-over with goodness, and not one attendee was for lack." With an exclusive Ocean Wise seafood menu inspired by kaiseki-trained executive chef Nobu Watanabe, and plenty of veggie options for those green-loving Elites, "the 2-hour event went by so quickly with the continuous onslaught of hot, freshly prepared appies, which were all delicious and unique."

But it was Hapa's staff that really set the evening apart, "they were so gracious and working their butts off to make sure everyone got enough food, drinks, and were having a good time." Steven S exclaims, "this will go down as one of my favourite elite events. What a great venue Hapa downtown is; the other Hapas are darker, moodier, this is light open and perfect for groups. I will be making this Hapa my go-to Hapa now. I prefer to open lightness of it, especially in the Summer. Oh, and the Candy Sushi was fun."

A big thank you to Jade, Kevin, Miyuki, and all of the Hapa crew who made us feel as though we were lounging on the deck of a luxury yacht; and the Yelp Elites for being quiet when I need them to; and for being awesome, always.

Manhattan's Black & Blue Diversion At RSVP

They say anything worth going to requires an RSVP... so how very apropos that the moniker for this South Village hashery shares the French acronym, répondez s'il vous plaît?

In the newly-minted space backed by longtime restaurant personality Jon B with a Hell's Kitchen alum by the name of Seth Levine slingin' gourmet sustinence behind the grill, RSVP has quickly caught the attention of foodies, critics, socialites, and celebrities alike in just the first handful of days in operation. And to no surprise, Yelp Elites had the chance to peruse the food and drink offerings on a balmy afternoon on Watts. RSVP 2

Bites like foie gras dumplings (take that, California!), miso rock shrimp, ahi tuna spring rolls, and miniature French toast bites made the rounds early, while spoonfuls of refreshing watermelon salad brought summertime to the forefront of party goers' taste buds. Oh, but that's not all... the star of this here matinee, the truffle mac 'n' cheese, was found being whipped up live, on the floor, by none other than Executive Chef Seth Levine himself. In short, to simply call this delectable Blue Box treat "good" would be akin to calling the Revolutionary War "a tiny little scuffle" that lasted darn near 8.5 years. We're still dreaming of that savory little vittle! RSVP 3

A party isn't complete without a roaming magician by the name of John Born (FTR alert, kiddos!) blowing the minds of anyone within 10 yards of his up-close magic, and of course, fine elixirs like the STARRberry mint mojito from our pals at STARR African Rum. Manhattan Treated To A Generous Pour At The Capital Grille

Nine wines. Mountains of shrimp. Lobster tails for days. Lamb chops like a bauce. Sparkling rosé, whaa? Crème brûlée – get off my lawn! What do all these fabulous little vittles have in common? They were in no short supply this past Sunday during Yelp's Generous Pour at The Capital Grille. Situated in the world's financial capital inside the elegant grandeur of the historic Equitable Building, Lower Manhattanites flock to where the commerce capital rubs elbows with the culinary capital to enjoy such items as Kona Crusted Dry Aged Sirloin and fresh Citrus Glazed Salmon on the reg, while sipping on acclaimed wines from one of the most extensive cellars in all of downtown. But on Sunday, it was all Yelp Elite, all day.Cg1

This Elite Event for the ages featured up close and personal appearances from Chef Jim Nutezi, curator of the fine selection of food stuffs that wowed everyone in attendance, and Master Sommelier, George Miliotes, ensured that each flavor profile was matched with the perfect wine varietal to bring the palate to the borders of Nirvana. Cg2

Don't believe us? Pfft, see with your own eyes what yelpers thought of this legendary affair here. Want to scope a few pictures? You can do so here. In your post-coital phases, feel free to tap back into the good times by tweeting at @TheWineMaster to share your favorite memories, and be sure to hashtag it #generouspour12.

Yelp Phoenix Gets Creative At Make Meaning

Last night, the creatively inclined Yelp Elites experienced a night to remember during Yelp's DIY Night Out At Make Meaning in Scottsdale, Arizona. A select group of Yelp Elites were invited into Make Meaning for a creatively crafty night filled with candle making, soap making, jewelry making and cake decorating, all while Brio Tuscan Grille kept their tummies full with plenty of food and drink for all!

Make Meaning Collage

Cake Collage

Make Meaning is a creative space that allows customers the chance to create their own products, whether it be soap, candles, glass, jewelry, pottery, cakes or stationary. During Yelp's DIY Night Out At Make Meaning, the Yelp Elites had the choice to decorate their own professional cake, create their own scentfilled candle, create their own soap or make their own jewelry. With so many choices, yelpers had a tough time deciding which product to create, but once the selections were made, the yelpers were on their way!

Burgers, Brews and Cue's For Yelp Phoenix Elites!

The luck of the Yelp Elite were upon some very lucky yelpers during Yelp's Burgers, Brews and 'Cues at Lucky Break in Tempe, AZ. A select group of Yelp Elites were invited to Lucky Break for a taste of their signature burgers, paired with beer from Four Peaks.

Beer Collage

This special Yelp event was an Elite-only event which allowed yelpers to get to know each other while they dined. Seated at large community tables, Yelp Elites chose between a selection of Lucky Break's signature burgers including flavors like the Mean Green with jalepenos, poblano peppers and guacamole or the Cobb with bacon, bleu cheese and a fried egg on top! Once yelpers chose their burger, brewers from Four Peaks walked around to each table and recommended a Four Peaks beer that would pair nicely with their burger choice.

After yelpers had a food-filled evening accompanied by a heavy pairing of beer, those who felt up to the challenge, played the Four Peaks brewers in a game of pool. A special thank you goes out to Lucky Break for hosting the Yelp Elites and to Four Peaks for providing the beer! Take a look at what yelpers are saying about the night.

Honolulu Yelpers Get Wet And Wild At Yelp's Summer Splash

Posted by Emi H

It was a perfect Saturday morning in Honolulu as 100+ Yelp Elites donned their sunscreen and Yelp stunna shades for a day of Summer funnin' at the Waikiki Ocean Club! In true Yelp fashion, guests were greeted at the dock with delightfully decadant donuts from Regal Bakery and were shuttled to the floating two-story activity center 300 yards off of Waikiki.

With a grand backdrop of Waikiki beach and Diamond Head in the distance, yelpers enjoyed a slew of H2O approved activities aboard the Waikiki Ocean Club, such as paddle boarding, kayaking, snorking, water trampoline and three diving platforms.

Adventurous yelpers signed up for helmet dives and ventured 30 feet under water. The helmets provided a water bubble that allowed yeeps to feed the fishes and get face-to-face with a few sea creatures. Monica L delighted as she "saw a friendly baracuda and other fish. It was a one-of-a-kind experience!"

Yelp Richmond's Elite Kickoff At The Magpie

Posted by Jamie

A little drizzle didn't stop Elites from heading to The Magpie on Sunday evening for Richmond's very first Elite Event! Embracing the venue's vintage vibe, Water for Yelp(ephants) exuded a traveling carnival theme and guests enjoyed sweet and savory bites, craft cocktails, henna art, tarot cards, and good ol' conversation. A huge thank you to The Magpie owners Tiffany and Owen and the fantastic staff for hosting such a rockin' inaugural event!

Guests sipped creative cocktails like the Chester Copperpot, a thirst-quenching concoction of Art in the Age Root Liqueur, spiced rum, lime juice, simple syrup, and club soda, while being treated to tastes of The Magpie's inventive menu. From coconut and honey gelee with basil oil and prosciutto dust to heirloom tomatoes with blackberry compote and crispy garlic, tastebuds rejoiced. "The drinks were amazing, and if you're a foodie you'll definitely appreciate" the cuisine, promises Earl C.

"The house made pickle and wild boar sausage" topped with mustard pleased Judith L's palate so much that she "bookmarked The Magpie as a place to revisit." It was all about the sweets for Dominic B, who couldn't get enough of the banana bread ice cream: "The ice cream was amazing. I mean truly amazing!" Thanks to the event, James M will "be back for the chef tasting menu" (on Tuesdays and Wednesdays) and will "definitely be at future Yelp events. Life is good." That it is, James, that it is.
Michelle A "wasn't expecting any entertainment, but there was a ton!" Colleen Heller, aka The Henna Lady, "turned people into living art and tarot cards provided a twist on the traditional fortune cookie." A few lucky guests even received astrology readings. Barry P "had a ton of fun with the photo props and meeting new people offline… definitely one of the best times I've had out in RVA on a Sunday evening." Us too, Barry!

Nearly 500 Yelpers Enjoy A New Twist On A Stampede Tradition

Posted by Wendy

What do you get when you cross Yelp Calgary with some stampeding and local hotspots? 5 distinct breakfasts for nearly 500 Yelpers–complete with morning cocktails!

Last week, Yelp Calgary’s Banff Ice Vodka Pancake Parties popped up at Melrose Café & Bar, Chef’s Table at the Kensington Riverside Inn, Mango Shiva, Design District Urban Tavern and Casel Marché to bring a foodie twist to a long time stampede tradition–the pancake breakfast!

Fact: Banff Ice Vodka is distilled right here in Calgary. That’s right! We even have local vodka!

Chef Mark Hakim at Melrose Café & Bar kicked us off with some creativity for the ideal Sunday hangover cure with his Red Bull birch syrup and lemongrass buckwheat pancakes complete with saskatoon berries. Jennifer L exclaims, “The pancakes and sausages were tasty!! I guess that explains why I had two plates.  MMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMM!” And the lychee puree and cranberry martini? “It was totally chic...I loved it!”

On Tuesday, Yelpers were treated to the infamous lemon ricotta pancakes, bacon and morning mimosas at Chef’s Table at the Kensington Riverside Inn. Chelsea K sums it up, “This breakfast was a pleasant change from the norm, with no lineup, real cutlery, and grown-up tables with napkins and chairs.” Is your inner pancake chef up for a challenge? Get out your pots and pans, this recipe’s been outted. Save some for us!

Mango Shiva put an international spin on breakfast with its first ever Stampede offering, dosas! “Light enough for a morning meal but still flavourful, from the curried dosa to the tapioca pudding,” this was one pancake party Bonnie H couldn’t miss… especially when paired with chai tea and Mango Slings. And yet again, no street eating for these Yelpers–with the choice of patio, lounge or restaurant seating, we had the place to ourselves!

Sometimes, breakfast just tastes better at night. That’s why, on Thursday, we descended upon the Design District Urban Tavern’s late night pancake breakfast to help raise funds for the Bill Beattie Endowment Fund in support of Leukemia research! Four different spiked punches, many servings of in-house smoked bacon and pancakes later and zombified Yelpers on the loose (local upcoming children’s fundraiser Apocalypse Wars was on-site with a make-up artist), guests left happy and satisfied.

Our perfect pancake peregrination ended Friday at Casel Marche where flax pancakes from Highwood Crossing Farm, lamb merguez (sausages) from Cassis Bistro, Kicking Horse coffee from Vie Café and freshly squeezed OJ from The Fresh Squeeze greeted guests from this local, organic market. The highlight for Cassandra D was the “yummy lamb sausage. Simply scrumptious and wow! The flaxseed pancakes were huge and extremely tasty.” Filled with gourmet pancakes and AM drinks doth a happy Yelper make!

Special thanks to Jay del Corro from The Aimless Cook and Vijay Desouza for getting’ snap happy with us. Thanks for the photos!

Did you miss any of Yelp’s Banff Ice Vodka Pancake Parties? Read the play by play in the reviews or check out the party photos!

Until next time!

A Wonderful Winter Elite Event At X-Wray, Fremantle.

Posted by Laura

Last night, 20 Yelpers met at X-Wray in Fremantle to have their taste buds pleasured by their new winter menu! 1 X W
2 X W
Delicious Mojitios using Mount Gay Rum were muddled and a Tempranillo and Pinot Noir were being poured as the guests arrived.

Whetting appetites were a variety of bread, olives, cheese and cured meats with a few Yelpers wondering where they'd fit the rest after these plentiful and delectable servings!

3 X W
4 X W
Our gastronomic journey through Chef Ricky’s scrumptious winter dishes started with a shot glass of wild mushroom soup and was followed by Tuscan roast pork. Next was a favourite on the night; hand-made gnocchi with a simple and fragrant tomato and basil sauce. The recipe was handed down to Ricky from his Nonna. Then came the 6-hour beef cheek with a baby carrot resting on pureed truffled cauliflower, before the finale -  succulent Chimichurri Chicken skewers. Then to end the night with something sweet we were treated to homemade biscuits.
5 X W
A massive thank you to Tex, Ricky and everyone at X-Wray. All attendees were blown away with every delicious dish that come out of the kitchen, the night was really very special.

Thank you to the Elites, Yelpers and guests who came out last night, I know you’re probably still daydreaming about the truffled cauliflower too!

Yelp Orlando Elites Enjoy a Yelpcation at Mission Inn Resort

Posted by Colleen Burns

This past weekend, Orlando Yelp Elites took a mini road trip for a lovely Yelp Staycation at The Mission Inn Resort & Spa! Tucked away in the rolling hills northwest of Orlando in Howey-in-the-Hills, the history of The Mission Inn dates back to the early 1900's, when the Florida citrus industry was in its infancy.

This getaway was at a most enchanting location distinguished by enduring traditions of excellence and hospitality with distinctive Spanish architecture and award-winning recreation. We dined, danced and entertained our way through the evening.

"First of all, Mission Inn Resort is beautiful! They really did a great job setting everything up and accommodating all of us Yelpers." - Elizabeth F

PicMonkey Collage
We began with delicious fruity margaritas as we toured some rooms with a spectacular golf course view. We then headed over to Legends Ballroom for the festivities. The buffet was a wide array of delicious, freshly prepared in house specialties including: Japanese Seaweed Salad and Blue Fin Tuna Tartar, Cured Atlantic Salmon with red Pepper Jelly, Natural Chicken Oriental Stir Fry, Red Snapper, Goat Cheese & Arugula wrapped in Puff Pastry carved to order, Tomato, Fresh Mozzarella, Purple Onion and Basil with Balsamic reduction, Wild Mushroom Risotto with Asiago and Parmesan, Grilled Asparagus with Béarnaise Sauce and Belgium Endive stuffed with Boursin Cheese. A true foodie frenzie.

"The food spread was ridiculous. And by ridiculous, I mean amazing. Anything from fresh mozzarella and tomato to grouper stuffed with goat cheese, to made to order stir-fry. It was crazy! And everything was really delicious. I was so stuffed by the time the event ended." - Elizabeth F

PicMonkey Collage3
Produced in Austin at Texas' first and oldest legal distillery and distilled six timesTito's Handmade Vodka was our libations curator for the evening featuring never ending dirty martinis and Mai Tais. Tito's Handmade Vodka is designed to be savored by spirit connoisseurs and everyday drinkers alike. It is microdistilled in an old-fashioned pot still, just like fine single malt scotches and high-end French cognacs. This time-honored method of distillation requires more skill and effort than modern column stills, but it's well worth it.

"Besides the delicious food and great service, I must also compliment the Mission Inn folks for providing some decent drinks - both of the Mondavi reds (Cab and Merlot) were eminently drink-worthy." - Paul L.

PicMonkey Collage2
We toured Spa Marbella, a place of well-being and wellness where you can relax your mind, rejuvenate your body and renew your spirit, received chair massages for relaxation, got some putting tips from an in-house golf expert on the greens and cut a rug thanks to the featured DJ

For those wanting to stay the entire weekend, we received either a Bed and Breakfast Package or Ultimate Golf & Spa Package Yelpcation deal. We also took advantage of discounts for Trap & Skeet Range, Spa Marbella packages, Complimentary Resort Activities including the Pool, Tennis, Trails and an All You Can Eat Crab Legs, Sushi & Prime Rib Buffet. It was a jam packed weekend of food, relaxation and fun.

For those who wished to just experienve the elite event, RedCoach USA, a luxury motorcoach company, headquartered in Orlando offered a complimentary trip from Orlando to Mission Inn. With convenient daily departures, RedCoach travelers enjoy comforts including leather seats with footrests that recline 140 degrees, lap desks, standard 110V electrical outlets at every seat and free Wifi. The roomy luxury cabins seat only 27 where a regular coach seats 56. They provide transportation service to Fort Pierce, Fort Lauderdale, Gainesville, Miami, Naples, Ocala, Orlando, Tallahassee, Tampa and West Palm Beach, among others.
