Yelping In A NC Triangle Wonderland

Posted by Christina Gates

For the Triangle's third annual Yelper Party, we joined forces with Triangle Restaurant Week and IMAX at Marbles to host Yelping In Wonderland: an evening of fabulous food, delicious draughts, and curiously fun entertainment to celebrate the start of Restaurant Week. With each guest bringing a canned food donation for entry, the community raised 1,500 pounds of food and over $400 for the Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC. That's enough to provide 3,298 meals, so pat yourselves on the back. And read on for a recap of our madcap extravaganza!

Hats
Wandering into the Zanzibar Room, guests uncovered light bites provided by ten generous local restaurants... from Indian curries, to goat cheese and candied bacon bruschetta, to watermelon Pop Rocks wedges, there were tons of tastes to explore. No (very merry) unbirthday would be complete without dessert, and our sweet treats sponsors had it in spades: a multi-tiered chocolate-peanut butter fondue fountain (one of only 13 in the US!), cheesecake bites, mini cupcakes, cake truffles, and more!

Food
In Curiosity Square, magician Michael Casey made the rounds, astounding the crowd with card trickery. Cirque de Vol took turns performing aerials, contortionist acts, and hooping. If you could tear your eyes away from the dazzling stunts to the tune of No Regret Productions, you might have taken a turn in the Absolute Casino Live, embellished your fairytale look with a little Character Paints, or captured the antics in LOL Photobooth...

EntIt's not a party -- and it's certainly not a Yelp party -- without some adult libations. Thanks to New Belgium, Crispin, Mad Housewife, and vitaminwater for bringing the bevvies!

This would not have been possible without fantastic partners! A tremendous thank you to Kate at Marbles, Mason at TRW, and Emily P -- as well as to all our fantastic food sponsors for contributing their time and talents: Blue Mango; Five Star; Little Hen; Mantra; Market Restaurant; [ONE] Restaurant; Sullivan's Steakhouse; The Big Easy; The Melting Pot; Jenny's Cupcakery; Sugar Buzz Cafe & Bakery; and The Chocolate Boutique. Be sure to check them out for Restaurant Week and beyond...

Until the next Yelp Elite Event (or our 2013 Yelper Party), I'll SYOY (see ya on Yelp),

My first Yelp party and WOW. I felt like I was in a Top Chef episode. :) The watermelon pop rock thing was pretty cool (pun intended). I loved the fanfare and only one place made me a little disappointed at waiting in line and having the food run out at one place...:(

I think I saw you Christina - if your real life 'image' matches your Yelp image, you asked me - in passing - "Is this the line for Sullivan's?". :)

The chicken salad sandwich with clue cheese was one of my faves. Maybe because it was one of the first things I tried? You never forget your first...?

Loved it, loved it, loved it. I look forward to the next party. What a privilege!
