Yelp stARTS the pARTy!
DC yelpers took art appreciation to a whole new level at The Dunes, an uber cool, independent art gallery that showcases awesome rotating art shows and hosts concerts and events on the regular. Forget stuffy bores and fuddy duddies! Culminating in a delightfully inappropriate Super Art Fight, this art'splosion was for the raddest Washingtonians around: Elites, of course!
When they weren't scoping the rotating slideshow of past yelpalicous shindigs, guests stared down the barrel of Nikki Page's camera lens, and got some very personalized art made by Alex Vernon of Tiny Paper Portraits, who did the seemingly impossible: hand-cutting silhouette replicas of our yelpy little faces out of tiny pieces of paper.
Cupcakes and cake pops from Perfect Pink Cupcakes and showcased in their custom-made display made for an edible artpiece that had yelpers drooling. In fact, Suzy D "may have seen at least one person eat part of one off the floor. Totally worth it." Perfect Pink's new food truck is launching soon, but for now, they deliver their goodies for parties and events around town. Guests washed down their dessert with Virginia wines, poured by the Washington Wine Academy with a side of vino education. Check them out for quality local wine, and classes for anyone from expert wine-lovers to the everyday wino! Local brewery Chocolate City took care of the beer-drinkers with their Cornerstone Copper Ale, and Red Stag by Jim Beam made the mixed drinks extra irresistable!
The climax of the night was an Elite Event first: an art showdown that makes the WWE look like a bunch of pansies skipping around in their knickers. Super Art Fight kicked ass (each other's, that is) and took names in a battle that left ferocious falafels, giant pandas, and some very undignified renditions of past presidents in its wake. You'll definitely want to check them out on August 25th at the Red Palace.
Want more? All event photos by Nikki Page are available on Facebook and Flickr, and you can check out guests' photos and reviews (and add your own, if you attended) here.
'Til next time!
Cheers,
Kristin M, Yelp DC Community Manager
