Elites Got Drapered at Yelp's Mad Men & Martinis Event @ The Original!
Lemon? No way. This party was a peach! Peach Waldorf, that is. The Original lived up to its namesake on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, as it threw down an insane Mad Men & Martinis Elite Event for the dapper-est Drapers and Betties in Portland.
At 7pm an eager decked to the nines in their 50’s and 60’s best mounted the stairs at The Original to be greeted with a Zu Bisou Bisou cocktail (The Original’s version of a St. Germain and bubby) and welcomed into the swank-tacular mezzanine. Once checked-in, the swanky crowd dined down on delectable period-themed fare such as mini ambrosia salad, peach waldorf, tuna stuffed eggs, swedish meatballs in grape jelly, grilled octopus in tomato aspic, chicken liver mousse finger sammiches and beef stroganoff hot pockets. Throughout the night the crack team of servers continued to bring out interesting bites like grilled mac n cheese, bites of the now-infamous donut burger and other classic American bites. The food buffet was never empty.
Of course it wouldn’t be a Mad Men (and Martinis) party without some stiff imbibables, and The Original delivered a one-two punch from their upstairs bar. First it was Manhattans made with local Big Bottom Whiskey (as well as samples of the Big Bottom Port-Cask Finish Whiskey from Monique). For those craving clear spirits, Silver Fox Martinis from New Deal Distilling quenched many a thirst. And to keep the drink line lubricated, Yelpers sipped on Ninkasi’s Radiant Summer Ale, Otis Oatmeal Stout and Believer Double-Red ales. It was all Draper, no Rumson at this hearty party.
Yelp Elites dressed up in their finest for this event, and I must say, I was thoroughly impressed by the attire. Three lucky elites brought home $25, $50 and $75 gift certificates to The Original in the best dressed/lookalike contest. But everyone strutted their stuff in the Tom Maxwell Photography photobooth. Looking for your photo? You’ll find it here.
Huge thanks are in order to Meaghan and the amazing staff at The Original (who dressed the part – to a T!); Tom Maxwell Photography; Keri from Watershed Communications; Tom, Sarah and Evan from New Deal Distilling; Taylor from Big Bottom Whiskey; Emily from St. Germain; Morgan from Ninkasi; Chris and Kevin – Manterns extraordinaire; and of course the Yelp Elite Squad, without whom none of this would be possible.
But honestly, you don’t have to take my word for it. Check out the pics and read the reviews (what are you waiting for – write yours already!). And We hope to see you back at the Original soon!
Until next time, my Mad Friends,
