Yelpers In Calgary Do It Deluxe!

What happens when you mix a hip local diner, Yelp Elites and Funday Monday? An “all-around good time” according to Victor P!

Monday night saw Calgary Elites and guests kick it old school at Diner Deluxe for a night of board games, shots, beer and food! Armed with a love of fun and a Yelp shot glass each, party goers challenged one another to games of Sorry, Yahtzee, Mastermind and even Operation... à la 18+.

Sarah Louise F had a “brilliant time. It turns out that when you get two English Majors playing inebriated Scrabble, it ends up taking an hour and a half and roughly eight shots of Jagermeister. You also use words that sound made up to everyone else but are actually depressingly real. And from personal experience, since you are formally trained in literature and not math, you cannot accurately calculate your 300+ score either."

The bite-size pieces of deliciousness prepared for these cool kids ran the gamet from tacos to maple fried oatmeal with lemon curd and vanilla bean cream. The Deluxe Mac & Cheese was a crowd favourite. Terrence L admits, “I had one piece from every Mac & Cheese tray that came out!” Though Lisa P contends the chocolate French toast topped with grilled bananas was the best. “I knew it was going to be good just because it felt good in my fingers. My taste buds agreed. Oh double hands down yumm yumm!” And we can't forget the "adorable and super friendly" staff serving it all up. Right, Tiffany N?

Beyond the shots of Jagermeister, Sour Puss and Sambuca making the rounds, Elites enjoyed a generous pour from Steam Whistle, and then another… and then another. Joel K concludes, “This event felt like playing in your Grandma's old kitchen all over again, only your Grandma was replaced by a dude named Mike who poured free samples of Steam Whistle and refused tips. Mike, you're a gentleman and a scholar.”
