Fusion happened last night, dear readers. Plucky online city guide Yelp Manchester and Northern Quarter Big Don Teacup on Thomas Street... Together at last. And what a union it was. The restaurant/cakery/virtual office hotspot/tea emporium (also housing some of our city's finest coffee) opened its doors on the sunniest Tuesday evening any Mancunian could hope for, to 60 lucky Yelpers there to taste-test their brand new evening menu.

This event was a long time coming. Teacup are fortunate enough to be ranked Number 1 in Yelp's countdown of Manchester's favourite eateries, and many a Northern Quarter wanderer has found the famous, now-extended Thomas Street trove of tea and treat treasures via their very own handy little Yelp app. 60 Yelpers over for dinner? We leapt at the chance.

Upon arrival, everyone was offered a choice of gin and Fentimans Rosé Lemonade poured from giant teapots into teacups, a cheeky sample of Brewdog Punk IPA, 5am Saint or Hardcore IPA decanted by the beautiful Josie, or a soft drink from the Fentimans range.

Guests were treated to an epic procession of sharing dishes including a 'sack o' potatoes' with real lemon or cod roe mayo, heirloom tomatoes on sourdough toast, beef short ribs, veggie and meat Himalayan momos, noodles with pulled pork, Peruvian street food such as fillet of heart chargrilled with South American spices and calf's liver with mash and a bacon finish, monkfish and chips, tender steak with a topping of pesto and marrow... the list goes on. And on.

The chips themselves received accolades beyond Teacup's wildest dreams. Newbie Yelper Steph H claimed they surpassed her all-time favourites at the Mark Addy, and as Andrew Y put it, 'Lovely chips – can't beat a good chip, and these were nice and crispy on outside and soft on the inside. Mmmmmm.' Well said!

As for the desserts, they spoke for themselves. And so did our attendees. The deconstructed Manchester Tart had everyone reminiscing about misspent youths in sweet shops. 'Cream, custard and popping candy,' sighed Toby S. 'Brilliant idea, not expecting the popping candy; really good surprise for everyone around the table when it kicked in.' Asked Lee Z, 'Who doesn't like popping candy?' Not the kind of people we want coming over for dinner.

Scruff tea Teapots

Squares of sticky toffee pudding served with chicory mascarpone and granola went down an absolute treat, and dinner was finished off with a selection of Teacup's famous teas to sample – Mr Scruff's own Make Us A Brew brand Big Chill, Look Lively and Mint and Chilli, as well as Organic Rosebud, Darjeeling, Assam and Peppermint.

Brewdog Manchester are now open on Peter Street, and you can find Fentimans in many local supermarkets and Manchester bars and restaurants. A huge thank you to Teacup and their hardworking chefs and staff for such an incredible event, Bex Tennenhaus for Teacup's amazing marketing and event creativity, Josie Ludford from Brewdog for sampling out the beers in our delightful little Yelp shot glasses, Jody Hartley for the mint snaps, and of course everyone who attended.
