Detroit's Tenth and Blake Elite Beer Dinner At BlackFinn
Situated in the newly renovated private room at BlackFinn, 50 elites and their guests got quite an education! To start, tables featured jars of brewing ingredients like hop leaves, chocolate malt, and white wheat for sniffing and tasting, plus informational pieces on each of the brews we’d be sampling that night. Our hosts Shane and Grant from Tenth and Blake then lead us through a journey of BlackFinn courses that Sarah G applauds “were well thought out to match the accompanying beer.”
Course one: a butternut squash and apple soup made with Pilsner Urquell. Course two: a mixed green salad with strawberries and goat cheese featuring a Blue Moon dressing and Blue Moon. Course three: bacon wrapped meatloaf served with honey chipotle ketchup, sweet potato mash, and Killian’s braised green beans with Killian’s Irish Red. Course four: a cheese plate of blackened brie, apricot cranberry chutney paired with Traverse City's Right Brain Brewery Black IPA. Course five: pineapple upside down carrot cake with Big Eddy Wee Heavy Scotch Ale (and a scotch ale infused cream cheese whipped cream on the side).

For nearly three hours yelpers ate, drank, and got to know one another while learning more about beer than they ever thought possible. Says Christie R, “I can now sniff beer and identify notes and I can totally understand how beer pairs” with food. Mission accomplished!
As if that weren't enough, each guest walked away with a gift bag full of Yelp schwag, menu ideas, and glassware from each of the featured beers, perfect to use for sipping and savoring back at home!
