While some say Sundays are a day of rest, Yelp Elites in Manhattan prefer to play all weekend long. And nobody proved it more than the fun-loving group of writers that descended on Betel restaurant in the West Village last night. Monday morning hangovers be damned!
Betel showcases a menu that is truly unique on the New York dining scene and highly adaptable to suit every palate. Yelp Elites sampled an array of exclusive eclectic tastes by Chef Adam Woodfield: West Coast Oysters with red nahm jim, coriandar & fried shallots, Chicken Betel Leaf with roasted shallot, eggplant relish & coriandar, Duck Sausage Betel Leaf with ginger & green chili scud, Salt & Pepper Cuttlefish with Vietnamese dipping sauce, Spicy Corn Fritters with shiso leaf & lime soy dipping sauce and the crowd favorite for the night, Quail Sin-In-Law Eggs with yellow bean tamarind & shallots. To quote Cole O here, the food was "seriously off the hook!"
Between hors d'oeuvres guests sipped on a variety of tantalizing cocktails featuring Yelp favorite, Starr African Rum. From the Lychee Gimlet to the Ginger Mojito to the bittersweet Honey Starr, all shaken with fresh ingredients (and a dash of love) there was no better time to "thai one on" than at the beautiful Betel bar. The wine aficionados among us kicked back with glasses of vino courtesy of our friends at Brancott Estate, growers of the original Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, one of the world's favorite New Zealand wine styles.
