Break Out Your Lederhosen, Yelp Pittsburgh's Going to Germany @ Penn Brewery!

No need to shell out the mola for a trip to Germany because we brought one heck of a shindig to the Burgh for Yelp's Fo Schnitzel My Nitzel Elite Event at Penn Brewery. The brewery has roots in the city since the 1800's and Elites were treated to a behind the scenes brewery tour, scrumptious German fare and, of course, delicious craft beers!

As Linda W recalls "Zicke zacke, zicke zacke, HOI HOI HO! The strains of that drinking song are still echoing through happy memories of Saturday night's Yelp Elite Event. Penn Brewery sure knows how to throw a Yelp Elite Party!" Those lyrics were sung courtesy of a lively duo who kept the German tunes going all night long! But so did our fellow Elite's and guests...

Lets not forget about the copeous amounts of food offered up, which Teresa T dove into. "I'm glad I came hungry cause I certainly didn't leave that way. I enjoyed all of the food, but the mac n cheese with bacon and meatballs were my favorite." Other incredible German favorites were served up including Kaese spaetzle, pierogies, three types of wurst with grain mustard and sauerkraut, beer cheese with crackers, made-to-order potato pancakes and brownies made with Penn Chocolate Meltdown Stout. Yum-O!

Mel U also found time to "stuff my pie hole. It provided a great base to enjoy a couple of Penn Brew's fantastic German beers!" There were four beers on tap: Penn Pilsner, Penn Gold, Penn Dark, and fan favorite, Penn Chocolate Meltdown Stout, made from Betsy Ann Chocolates located right here in the Burgh! But the brew offerings didn't stop there... They also had an assortment of bottles to sample including Penn Marzen, Penn Kaiser Pils, Penn Rye IPA and Allegheny Pale Ale. This brewery sure knows how to be the host with the most... brews!

Yelpers were also treated to an exclusive tour of the brewery with co-owner Linda Nyman. "She was extremely knowledgable and gave some great history about the brewery" Jarrett H recounts. "Did you know that Penn Brewery was Pittsburgh Brewing company before Prohibition and that was actually the culmination of over 10 area breweries?" While some were touring the brewery others were getting the inside scoop on the best way to pair Penn Brews with some of the delectable fare provided.

The culmination was a contest were guests were blindfolded and had to guess the Penn Brew. Two lucky winners walked away with a $25 gift card to Penn Brewrey, a growler to fill up with a beer of their choice and a swanky new Yelp T-shirt! The evening can best be summed up by Elite Nick C: "The event definitely gave me new appreciation for Penn Brewery and their ties with the history of Pittsburgh. I left with a belly full of pilsner hugging schnitzel and a head full of Penn Brewery history via the tour." Oi! Oi! Oi!

A big thank you to Penn Brewery Co-Owners Linda Nyman and Tom Pastorius, Restaurant Manager Rhiannon Holmes and the amazing staff at Penn Brewery for treating Yelpers just like family! Also, thanks to Ray Miles Photography for the fab photo's that you can check out here.
