Lara G spoke the truth when she stated, "If Gabriel Garcia Marquez lived to attend a Yelp event, he would not have known solitude and we would have been deprived of the following words:  'It was as if God had decided to put to the test every capacity for surprise and was keeping the inhabitants of Macondo in a permanent alternation between excitement and disappointment, doubt and revelation, to such an extreme that no one knew for certain where the limits of reality lay." - Gabriel Garcia Marquez, "One Hundred Years of Solitude"

Fortunately, we are not alone and instead the new class of 2012 Elites braved the blistering cold to journey down to Macondo (157 E Houston) to celebrate instead: 100 years of Yelpitude!

Yes, while the city saw snow coming down outside, guests were greeted by toasty temps and tropical cocktails with some Latin spice. Our hosts prepared bevvies with some bite: Maracuya Vision Vodka Cocktails with passionfruit and jalapeño, Acaî & Ron rum mint mixers, Banana & Leblon Cachaca coolers, and a duo of Blanca and Tinta sangrias spelling out s.a.u.c.y. Never a line and plenty of lime to warm our wintry wanderers.

All this imbibing and merriment was only fueled by the loads of luscious Latin bites served out by the friendly Macondo servers. Colombian chorizo and shrimp in a chili-garlic-tomato sauce over fufu and tostones and mushroom croquettes with figs, almonds and truffle trumpet mushroom allioli, croquetas de jamón, almondigas meatballs with guava demi & tetilla fondue... salivating yet? Well, we didn't even mention the five different kinds of homemade empanadas stuffed with a range of meats, veggies and fish. Ahem. Or the duck confit, salmon and quail egg & black pudding arepas. Okay, we'll stop. And end with piping hot churros con chocolate!

As Tony L said, "So much food, so many drinks...so many wonderful Elites!" If you were there partying with us at Macondo, be sure to leave your review here. And gawkers are also welcome to chime in on talk and scan (drool over) the photos here!

Until next time, I'll SYOY...
