Yelp's Up North Affair at Republic in Minneapolis

Dontcha know? Minneapolis and St. Paul Elites broke out their best Minnesotan accents this week for Yelp's Up North Affair at Republic!

A high concentration of jorts and plaid took over this Seven Corners gastropub, fitting right in with the taxidermy on the walls, the locally-focused menu and the dark, rich woodwork of the bar.

Matty O'Reilly and Rick Guntzel, the two dapper gents who own Republic, took Minnesota nice to a whole new level of hospitality for the yelpers. With Wild Acres turkey burgers, shrimp ceviche, tenderloin crostinis, veggie sliders, fresh made guacamole (with fresh chips too), crostinis with a date reduction and manchego cheese and more, Republic's generous, talented chef knows no boundary (waters) when it comes to his kitchen. After tasting everything, Summer L says, "The food tickled all of my happy spots. Especially the pulled pork with cherries and jalapenos—oh dear, I could have eaten a bucket of them."

Just when it seemed they had finally let up, they sent out housemade chocolate cupcakes for dessert... and all of the sudden, everybody found a bit more room in their satisfied tummies. Anna M found out from one of the servers that the cupcakes are just $2 on the regular menu. Score.

In these Northwoods, there was nary a lite beer in sight. Seeing as Republic's list features only solid suds, Elites sipped on the good stuff: craft beer courtesy of Odell Brewing. Todd Ewing from Odell even stopped by to say hello and enjoy a brew or two with everybody!

The Republic bartenders also mixed Montreal Mules, an original cocktail made with the new Spicebox Whisky, their housemade limeade and ginger beer. Melissa L called it "spicy, refreshing and the perfect mid-summer drink."

Elites also popped in and out of Shutterbooth's lovely photo booth, which was so awesome and roomy that we probably could have fit an adult moose in there with us.

The big surprise of the evening? Up-and-coming Americana songsters Bethany Larson & The Bee's Knees came in especially for Yelp to perform! This darling local band is worth keeping an ear on, and you can listen and buy their album online or at one of their many live shows this fall (calendar here).

Until next time,

Annie, any chance Shutterbooth will have their photos from the event posted on their site in the near future?
