Yelpers Lived The Rich Life at East India Co for Yelpdog Millionaire!

Posted by Don Bourassa

On Saturday, July 9, 2001, an intimate group of 70 of Porltand’s upper caste gathered at East India Co. in Portland Oregon for Yelpdog Millionaire – a taste of Northern India in SW PDX! This unique elites-only event provided a chance for Yelpers to get to meet each other and get a taste of Portland’s most high-end Indian food.

Group SM Portland’s swankiest Indian restaurant, East India Co`, invited a select group of Yelp Elites in to try out their carefully-crafted high-end food and drink for a sunny Saturday lunch hour. Yelpers were welcomed in the door to a host of tasty brunch-time booze including a bloody Mary made with New Deal’s Portland 88 vodka and a No. 3 Chill (the hit of the day – a gimlet-style drink with cucumber) made with New Deal’s incredible No. 3 Gin. Those in the mood for wine imbibed A To Z 2009 Riesling and Chardonnay. And the hop-heads quaffed ice cold Ninkasi Spring Reign brews. That’ll get your Saturday started off right!

Anna S SM East India Co backed up the tasty cocktails with an incredible spread of food including veggie samosas, veggie pakoras, vegetable Korma, Apricot Pulao, Malabar Chili Fish, Chicken Tikkas, Chicken Kerala, Tandoori Chicken and Naan straight from the Tandoori oven. As Yelpers dined on this fantastic buffet, the welcoming and hospitable staff passed around baskets of naan and samples of the tandoori chicken. They even circulated to tables filling up wine glasses and clearing plates. With bellies full of savory food, the Gajar Ka Halwa – a tasty sweet traditional carrot dessert - was unleashed upon the crowd, much to the delight of the Yelp crew.

Portland’s Yelp Elite enjoyed the chance to get in to a solid but little-known restaurant and try out what to many is a new cuisine. All this while enjoying a chance to really get to know their fellow Elites. And quite a few folks even dressed up in their best Bollywood garb! It was a great event!

HilarySM A huge thanks go out to Pradeep and the incredible staff at East India Co, Meaghan from Broussard Communications, Tom and Sarah from New Deal, Mike from A to Z, Morgan from Ninkasi, Hilary B for working the door, and of course, the Portland Yelp Elite Squad – without whom this would not be possible. A million thanks for everything you did to put this incredible event together.

Until next time…

SYOY!

Sorry I didn't make this. I have to say humanity of the Miss Street Fair called to me in the sun, but I love this place. I think its the most authentic Indian food in PDX. I could survive on the garlic naan alone. Glad you all had fun!
