Sactown Parties Like It's 2012!
Sure, we survived the Rapture, but the next doomsday scenario is just around the corner: December 21, 2012, or the date the Mayan Long Count calendar supposedly predicts the world will end! To celebrate their last year on earth and go out with a bang, Sactown Elites gathered on Tuesday, May 31 at the swank new Tequila Museo Mayahuel.
Held in the restaurant's classy and candlelit Coa room, the apocalyptic ambiance was only enhanced by a Mayanesque video projection from Visaomedia, coconuts filled with dried corn and candles, plenty of Yelp goodies, authentic Mayan artwork on loan from Spanglish Arte, and a beautiful wall-sized paper, charcoal and paint rendering of the great Mayan pyramid Chichen Itza by local artist Lorena Moreno.
Of course you can't party like it's 2012 without great food and drinks. Waiters handed out bite-sized authentic Mexican morsels and bartenders served up spicy watermelon and smoked jalapeƱo margaritas filled with Don Pilar tequila. As an added bonus, the legendary Don Pilar himself was there to hand out samples of his tasty creation!
The undisputed highlight of the event was a performance by the Maquilli Tonatiuh Aztec Dancers, who performed a blessing ceremony and danced along to thundering drums. No sacrifices were needed, as yours truly was blessed with smoke and gave thanks to the four directions! All this and more was captured in stunning shots from photographer Melissa Uroff Millner.
If that wasn't enough, Elites left with the brand spankin' new Yelp watches so they could count down to the end of days! Suddenly, the end of the world didn't seem so bad.
Apocalyptically yours,
