A Little Bit of NOLA in NYC
It's hot and it's humid. Basically, Brooklyn feels like summer in New Orleans lately...but never more so than last night at d.b.a.! The Brooklyn branch of NOLA's legendary Frenchmen St. bar welcomed NYC Elite yelpers for a fantastic fĂȘte with a bit of Cajun flair.
If you've ever spent some time in The Big Easy, you know that it's all about flavorful food and fun. Nothing in New York embodies that feeling quite like Tchoup Shop, the "pop-up" restaurant that is a true New Orleans backyard BBQ experience. Last night, Chef Simon Glenn (who sets up in d.b.a.'s backyard on summer Sunday afternoons) was slingin' all sorts of samples off his can't-miss catering menu: brisket and duck liver boudin balls, crispy chicken biscuits with homemade pepper jelly, smoked andouille sausage sliders, Char-BQ'd Bluepoint oysters with spicy ginger sesame hoisin that "kicked Paul L in the face with their flavored heat" and more!
Since you can't have a proper N'awlins BBQ without a little booze, the bar was mixing Maker's Mark Mint Juleps, whiskey sours and more. These beautiful bourbon drinks were crafted with both the brand new, smooth as silk Maker's 46, as well as the standard Maker's Mark which Kevin G correctly calls "one of the best commercially-available bourbons on the liquor stores shelves."
After a few cocktails, Brooklyn's best yelpers got lei'd and stepped into a Sweet Booth to celebrate the 1st day of summer and capture the Cajun fun on camera. If you missed out on the madness (or if you just want another taste of the fantastic food), make sure you make it out to d.b.a. one of these Sundays to check out Tchoup Shop in a beautiful Brooklyn backyard. We know you'll leave agreeing that d.amn, b.rooklyn's a.wesome.
Lastly, don't forget to peep the the pictures from our very own Joi B, as well as crack photog Brent Herrig. And of course, the reviews tell the tale of an awesome event!
Cheers,
Peter D and the NYC Yelp Team
