Hop On Board Yelp's Soul Train @ Kevin's Martini Bar

Posted by Cara

Yelp Cleveland Elites and their +3's truly felt the funk on Thursday evening when they Hopped On Board Yelp's Soul Train. Packed with enough afros, bell bottoms and disco balls to make any Soul Train aficionado boogie down, this par-tay paid homage to the our favorite moments of the 1970's. This righteous bash was hosted by Kevin's Martini Bar at Pickwick & Frolic, home of the trippiest bar in C-Town! Can you dig it?

Our far out hosts served up delicious cocktails all night with Three Olives Vodkas (3-O Dude on the rocks and mini dirty martinis) and a generous spread of tasty bites, including fire breads, several dipping sauces, and lots of veggies. And of course, the Magic Hat kept it real all night with gracious pours of hoppy goodness!

The evening grooved on with the soulful tunes of the 70's, spun by Cleveland's own DJ Ginger Blast and Elites boogied down in their most inspired attire." Proclaimed Jeff B, "Great people, great music, and great dancing—I will have to go back there!" Jenny from The Cleveland Photobooth snapped our glamorous pictures all night with lots of funky props, like Farrah wigs, afros, groovy glasses and more! As Kaitlin D put it, "My friends and I had fun dressing up and even more fun with the photos!"

Yelpers with the best costumes won prizes including the complete first season of Soul Train, a pass to the Cleveland Indians Social Media Suite, a Magic 8 Ball and plenty of tickets to Hilarities 4th Street Theater so they can enjoy some laughs with friends! And let's not forget the truck loads of Yelp schwag and disco balls!

A huge thanks to all the funktified Elites who came out to this Soul Train event. And the thank yous don't end there... DJ Ginger Blast, Jenny from The Cleveland Photobooth, Magic Hat & North American Breweries, Three Olives Vodka and the gracious folks from Pickwick for hosting our awesome event.

If you're curious about what Elites are saying about this event, or maybe you were there and would like to chime in, do so here! And enjoy all the pictures here.

Totally Yelp! 80's Prom at The Lexington.

From crimped hair and mullets, to 80's prom attire and retro watches, 150 yelp elites had the time of their lives on Thursday when they traveled back in time to 1985 for a totally Yelp 80's Prom at The Lexington's Cycle.

IMG_0296 IMG_0281

The Lexington in Downtown Phoenix opened their doors to the yelp elite squad and turned back the clock to a time when sporting fluorescent was cool and 16 Candles rocked the big screen. Upon arrival, special "it's time to yelp" watches welcomed elites as well as sweet treats including pop rocks and pixie sticks for a sugar high kick-start to the night!

IMG_0272 IMG_0273

While DJ P-body rocked classic 80's tunes over the speakers and The Breakfast Club played on the movie screen, yelpers sported their finest 80's prom attire and enjoyed tasty bites from The Lexington including Monica's Chicken Dip with pita crisps, sweet potato fries, pulled pork sliders, sundried tomato flatbread and smoked chicken flatbread. What's a prom without some punch? Not a prom at all, so luckily there was plenty of hibiscus punch and electric slide cocktails to go around and since the yelpers are all well over 21, this punch had a special spike to it thanks to Arroyo Vodka!

IMG_0276 IMG_0288 IMG_0319

IMG_0279 IMG_0280

There were plenty of ways to capture the night and leave with memories to last a lifetime including a special yelp backdrop where elites struck their best prom poses and made it a Kodak moment with Owen Murray Photography. Artist Brad Hall kept his fingers busy by animating each guest with take-away caricatures and yelpers filled in the chalkboards with their best recaps of the 80's. As the evening slowly started to come to the end, the crowd crowned Tina and Bryan T as Yelp Prom King and Queen of the Yelp 80's prom! But the night didn't end when the yelp curtain went down! The Lexington offered special rates for those who wanted to party longer and elites continued with an after-party complete with karaoke and drink specials.

Yelp's Pursuit of Hoppyness Leads to Happiness!

Posted by Jelena Z

It was a beer-loving dream in Addison last Thursday night, where craft beer aficionados and newly-minted beer snobs alike fell for what the boys of Bigby's Pour House were pouring and serving! Chicagoland Elites came out to get hopped up at what some call the suburb's best-kept secret for hops 'n' suds... though, after this event, the cat is out of the bag!

5764249692_2497958c3c_b 5763701993_5138b3be5a_b

Craft Beer Education 101 started with a flurry of flights to whet Elites' curious palates. Bell's Oberon, Allagash White, Firestone Double Jack, Two Brothers' Domaine DuPage and Buffalo Bill's Orange Blossom (among many others) were soon the only language being spoken in the bar. Music to a beer lover's ears! Once Elites found their perfect matches, they could order a full pour from Bigby's brilliant, bounteous bevy of both bottles and drafts.

In between sips of artisan suds, Elites noshed on Bigby's signature flatbread pizzas. Spicy bacon and pesto pizzas made tongues wag, but the dessert flatbreads laid down the law for the ultimate culmination in culinary satisfaction. The Bacon Nutella creation made guests believe; the S'mores flatbread satiated the sweet tooth beyond belief. Guests couldn't help but attack this ambrosial spread!

The memorable evening was highlighted with board games, crazy antics and a whole lotta fun, Yelp Elite-style. Guests enjoyed their Bigby's experience so much that it's been reported via Yelp check-ins that many have already returned this past weekend! Now that's what we call a pursuit of hoppiness leading to happiness... or, heaven! Read all the glowing reviews here and take a look at Andres J. DeLeon's photography prowess right here! Until next time, keep it hoppy.

Chicagoland Yelp Elites Get Foodietastic!

Posted by Jelena Z

On Friday May 20th, Chicagoland Elites trekked to Yelp's Foodietastic Elite event at the oh-so-whimsical Wimsa, an indie gourmet grocer specializing in all things sustainable, locally-sourced and organic. Elites and their guests kicked backed and relaxed with delicious Lulu B. Wines at the newly-minted chic café, and proprietor/chef John des Rossiers even broke into an impromptu craft beer tasting of his own.

And of course, an event by the name of Foodietastic had more fabulous food than you could shake a stick at: From the Pinn-Oak lamb stew to a penne alla Arrabiata with meatballs, from organic chicken polenta with toasted hazelnuts to a rare selection of cheese and artisan charcuterie, we ate like kings, drank like rockstars and the world didn't end.

Corin W may have summed it up best: "The food was incredible. The lamb stew was outstanding, the sheep's milk unpasteurized blue cheese mind-blowing. John also broke out the most incredible, fragrant, potent and inspiring bottle of gin I've ever tasted: called No Drama Gin – made by John himself." Tucson Elites Give Themes The Boot!

We here at Yelp know there's nothing quite as exciting as an ugly holiday sweater contest or belting out the lyrics to Yelp Is The Word, but we also know that sometimes costumes are best closeted and contests are cool if they're not constant. That's why 50 Elites and their guests gathered together at Tavolino Ristorante Italiano for Yelp Gives Themes The Boot: An enchanting evening of food and wine held on the restaurant's charming patio.

Restaurant owner and Executive Chef Massimo Tenino assembled a menu that spoke to the restaurant's specialties and Massimo's brother Paolo Tenino, who still lives in Italy, paired each course with a selection from the family winery located in Piemonte. The evening started with mini bruschetta, antipasto platters and stone-fired pizzas paired with sparkling prosecco in the courtyard. This meal before the meal was the perfect way to get Joshua B “in the mood to see what delights they had in store for the rest of the evening.”

Long2 Long1 Long3 Long4

As the sun began to set, eager yelpers took their seats on the patio for the first course, insalata mista. The mixed baby greens, leeks, locally grown tomatoes, and balsamic vinaigrette had the distinct tastes of Northern Italy lingering in the minds of party goers leaving everyone yearning for more! To fill that need course number two made its way to tables: Homemade beet ravioli filled with goat cheese and fresh thyme in a butter and tomato sauce. This delicate but rich pasta was paired with a refreshing Arneis, a crisp white that proved to be a favorite of the evening. It was so tasty, Molly H couldn't beleive it! "Somebody pinch me, because I am dreaming. There is a hint of beet in the fresh pasta, and whoever thought that up needs to be hugged."

Wide4 Food3 Wide3

As the wine began to flow freely, so too did the conversation, and plates of ravioli were polished off and exchanged for chicken cacciatore, a dish brought back specially from the restaurant’s original menu just for our occasion. The chicken was braised in a rich mushroom and tomato sauce served with polenta and spinach, this time paired with a Dolchetto D'Alba, a robust red that brought out the rich flavors of the dish's sauce. We think Yvett R really enjoyed it claiming, "the chicken cacciatore with polenta and spinach was amazing. Amazing. Where can I sign the petition to get this on the menu?"

Wide5 Wide2

How do you wrap up an Italian wine dinner? With plates of tiramisu as big as your head! These epic slices were so big, some of the baddest and boldest Elites couldn’t finish! Not Danny S though who states, "I ate the whole damned thing and wasn't even a little sorry." Well done! A delicately sweet Moscato D'Asti paired well with the sweet mascarpone, espresso and ladyfingers, Y-U-M!

Wide1 Food1 Wide6

There are a ton of people to thank for helping Yelp get back to the basics for an evening all about food and wine: Restaurant owner Massimo Tenino and his brother and winemaker Paolo Tenino, our servers Bryanna, Cassie and Scott, and Eduardo Larissa, Davide, Tom and Kristof, Tavolino's team of chef, event planner, managers and wine director respectively. These folks went above and beyond and created a very special evening that will go down as one of the best Elite Events in Yelp Tucson history! We wouldn't be able to take a "photo look back" without the sharp shooting skills of Billy K, and thanks to the great reviews you can read about the evening from those that were there!

Kristen P summarizes this event perfectly: "This was a lot of fun. Who doesn't love drag queens? They were great. I totally want to go see their show. Also the food was amazing." Everyone had a chance to let their creative side out and wear some magnificent wigs to show our personalities. Most of the ladies participated, I guess the gentlemen were a little too shy. We had short. curly red to long, blue and sparkly. Brenda H shared that this was a "Super fun event! Can't really go wrong with wine and a drag show"

Everyone also enjoyed 20% off of all of their purchases that evening with such a fabulous selection of wines, decor and books all about vino appreciation! Yelp Queens Elites Catch Spring Fever at Cavo!

After days of countless clouds and relentless rain, Yelp Queens Elites waved goodbye to gray skies and welcomed a much sweeter season: Spring! And what better way to celebrate the upcoming warmth and sun than with a party at cavernous Astoria hot spot Cavo, where locals caught Spring Fever like never before.

Room shot   Ladies   Lights   Laughter

Setting the stage, the lounge at Cavo provided a beautiful backdrop to the night's festivities: iron chandeliers, dim ambiant lighting and flowing drapery in warm orange and earth-tone hues welcomed guests into the event, where the flawless waitstaff served up refreshing cocktails from Malibu and Absolut, including their famed Sangria, Candy Apple Red Martinis and Absolut Caipiroskas. Delectable nosh came out in waves, and Elites sampled a bevvy of bites, from Mini Crabcakes with herbed aioli, Fried Calamari, Greek Meatballs stuffed with sheep’s milk cheese and Chicken Souvlaki served with tzatziki and pita.

Bartenders   Shots2   Menu   Drink pour

Once properly sated and feeling a little saucy, DJ GEOROC turned up the tunes and Elites were surprised with gorgeously clad bellydancers! Shaking and simmering, these ladies got the crowd moving with their sexy routine, balancing flaming candles on their hands as they danced around the room! Continuing to crank out some serious booty-shaking jams, as Elites broke out into a dance party that included a few fierce breakdanceing moves. Not bad for a Tuesday night in Queens!

Belly dancers   Dancig crowd   DJ  Dancers 2

Endless appreciation to the staff at Cavo for swift and sweet service all night long, the tantalizing treats from their kitchen and marvelously mixed drinks made by an expert bar staff with Malibu and Absolut. Want the real scoop? Catch up on all the gossip on Talk and read the reviews! Plus, don't miss the hot, hot, hot photos snapped by the ever-talented Greg Minasian of SPREADhouse.

Here's to a sizzling Spring!

Yelp Paris Elite Se Met à la Sauce Bollywood Au Tiffin

Posted by Elodie

On aime !

On Tueday night the Paris elite squad squeezed into Le Tiffin, a new idie Indian hotspot in the Bastille for an evening full of freshly made delicacies. In addition to the handmade chapati and nan served with three different types of dips, yelpers tasted spicy vegetable fritters and seasoned sandwiches courtesy of the friendly staff behind the open kitchen. Among the 50 plus guests who spilled out onto the street of this pint-size restaurant, Laurence A went wild for the “fragrant lentil fritters,” and the “wow” factor of the surprising, savory treats.
The rock n’roll decor of the restaurant with its DIY fresco of musical greats (was that Kurt Cobain on a mountain top next to Lou Reed?) was the perfect backdrop for new and seasoned members of the elite squad to mingle and meet. Even the sun decided to show up for the event, setting the perfect relaxed late spring tone for Ludivine L who  “spent a wonderful evening with the yelpers, as usual” on the terrace outside of the restaurant as the sun set.
We love the fact that Loulou B became an instant expert on the art “of eating a Kati roll without spilling it all over yourself.”

If you were at the party last night and you want to share all, you can leave your review of the evening here. For more photos of the spicy soirée, pop over to our Flickr page

Elites Get Post-Achocalyptic at Max Brenner Boston!

Posted by Damien S

The world held its breath as the clock struck 6pm on Saturday, May 21st. When Boston Elites emerged rapture-free, we knew what we had to do: party and eat chocolate.

So we did! More than 180 yelpers swarmed Max Brenner in Back Bay to dine and drink like the end was nigh. A cheerful and trayed-up queue of staffers lined the entrance with sweet chocktails, Harpoon IPA and swirlable wines from MS Walker. For the high spirited, Patron Silver guavaritas, and Ultimat peachy lemonades delivered a summery serving of fruit, while cocoa nuts sipped chocolate martinis kissed with espresso, powered by Patron XO.

Sure, the bald man makes chocolate, but our party had to have their dinner first. Platter after platter of bite-sized classics indulged even the most native palates. Wee catfish tacos, micro-cheese steaks ("complete with the Whiz" Amanda A notes), petit margherite paninis and sliders with teeny grilled onions made for a savory start.

Then came caramel drizzled banana waffles and cocoa loaded cookies. These, coupled with the ever-present chocolate covered toasted pecans, espresso beans and hazelnuts were "enough to squash even the biggest sweet tooth," so says Hayley M. What better to wash 'em down than icy cold milk from bulbous baby beakers? Don't drink that one, though. That's MY milk.

Clerkenwell Design Week 2011- Yelp (G)in Detention

Posted by Lizzie G

As part of Clerkenwell Design Week 2011, last night 100 Yelp Elites got VIP access to The House of Detention's international design exhibition showcasing some of the most exciting contemporary talent and sampled some fabulous cocktails from BullDog Gin.
Picnik collage
As the clock struck 6, the queue outside was forming and Yelp Elites were ushered in and down the secret staircase into The House of Detention. Inside, over 15 designers showcased their work, from interactive colouring-in and upside-down plants pots to mirrored staircases and giant swing chairs that lit up. Matt B certainly made himself comfortable in one of those!
Picnik collage
BullDog Gin served up a delightful array of cocktails: Singapore Slings, Aviations and Negronis. One or two of those and you'd certainly need a sit down in the designer chairs.
Picnik collage
As the DJ spun those tunes and the cocktails continued flowing yelpers explored further into the cavernous space uncovering the spectacular design work. Melizza R sums up the night perfectly – '"Oohing" and "aching" over pretty decorated tiles and hanging plant pots, while sipping on delicious, and some very potent, gin cocktails proved to be a great evening.'

A huge thank you goes out to the outstanding team at Clerkenwell Design Week as well as BullDog Gin for their delicious cocktails. This design-infused Elite event was something to remember. Yelp East Bay's Grand Olde Time

Posted by Monica

Last night amid a perfect, crisp evening, East Bay elites gathered for the classy, casual soiree at Oakland's Grand Tavern. In the outdoor patio, the famed local Linden Street Brewery served up pours of their ever popular Common Lager and roasty, light bodied black beer, the Burning Oak Black Lager. At the indoor bar, Frank, Temoor and Matt got shakey with their tins as they craftfully concocted Pisco Portón mixtures. The pineapple infused pisco punch hugged one end of the bar while elites got tipsy on the Pisco Flower, an elderflower, lemon juice and Rosé cocoction and the Lima Lima, a minty beverage that packed a Peruvian punch.

Guests also noshed on snacks including shots of asparagus and cauliflower soup, homemade potato chips, shrimp skewers and what might quite possibly be the most decadent dessert of all time: deep fried beer battered chocolate cake.
What better way to work off all of that delicious food and drink than to enjoy the crisp spring air on the outdoor patio while listening to a live band? Graham Patzner and Maddy wooed the crowd with their fiddle and ukelale skills.

Elites also played the scavenger hunt art card game, which had them searching for new friends in the crowd and asking them scintillating questions. Plus, a lucky winner took home a pair of tickets to the Jamaican Jerk Cook Off, benefiting the My Yute Soccer nonprofit. Read all the reviews here and make sure to check out the CatalepsicFox photos as well!

Yelp Las Vegas Opening Of 89XXXhibition

Posted by Misti Yang

Yelp Las Vegas hosted a night at the UNLV Barrick Museum to celebrate the opening of 89XXXhibition: A Reconaissance Into Las Vegas Community running through July 9th. The exhibit, sponsored and promoted by Yelp, features art by over 20 local artists exploring the communities of Las Vegas and features a piece or two from Vegas yelpers. 200 came out to celebrate the opening!

In true Yelp fashion, the kickoff reception featured starworthy dishes and cocktails. Rubio's grilled up shrimp tacos. The Lunch Box was ironing up homemade ice cream waffle sandwiches. Brio toasted up bruschetta, and Stephano's had a full spread with hummus, Israeli salad and their signature baklava. Yelpers washed it all down with an Ellis Island Casino and Brewery "El Wheat" brew and a menu of SKYY Infusions Dragon Fruit cocktails.

In addition to enjoying the exhibition, Elites were invited to bring their favorite photo from or inspired by a Yelp event and swap it for another Yelp photo and a picture frame, and the Las Vegas Zine Library created a signature, limited edition 89XXX zine. And just when you thought local talent was exhausted, three local authors, Oksana K. Marafioti, Juan Martinez and Alissa Nutting, shared readings reflecting on the exhibition theme!

Perhaps, yelper Jacie Y puts it best: "The Curators, the Artwork, the Patrons, the Diversity, the Yelpers, the Artists, and the LOVE.  Thank you & kudos to all.  Together you changed the entire art dynamic in just one night." Generous thanks to the Barrick Museum staff, the show jurors Brian Paco Alvarez and Gina Quaranto, and to Dany Haniff for the beautiful photos capturing the evening's fun! For more, check out the reviews, photos and Talk!

See you at the museum!

Yelp's Halfway to the Holidays Yelp Elite Event at The Republic

It's currently Monday, May 23rd, and in addition to learning the only Rapture you need to worry about is of the LATFH, more-cow-bell counterculture variety, we're shockingly already halfway to the holidays! Feel free to throw in the ubiquitous, pedestrian "this year is flying by!" reference, but really... 2011 is melting away faster than the adipose tissue on Kirstie Alley's rear end. With this marvelous revelation, we did as any free-spirited San Franciscan would, and turned it into an excuse to dress up! Taking over the upscale, yet laid back confines of The Republic in the Marina, Yelp Elites celebrated this occasion by dusting off their tackiest holiday garments, participated in a white elephant gift exchange, took pictures by the Christmas tree, and more!

Halfway 1

While enjoying a holiday-themed playlist along with the warm and fuzzy feelings of the holidays, guests also sipped on the very apropos adult libations consisting of spiced Crispin Cider, as well as Ninkasi's Sliegh'r holiday ale (as well as their Spring Reign seasonal ale and Total Domination flagship IPA)! All the while, the hard-working elves at The Republic made sure nobody left the soiree on an empty stomach with copious passed trays of their mouthwatering carnitas sliders, fresh bruschetta, chicken spring rolls, and the surprise hit of the evening, the gourmet potato skins.

If you've yet to check into The Republic, let your journey start now! They have a new and snazzy Margarita Monday special with $5 margaritas and $2 carnitas, chicken, and fish street tacos, as well as a weekly happy hour featuring 2-1 wells until 8:00pm, and $14 bottomless mimosas Saturday - Sunday until 3:00pm. Phew!

We'll have photos up soon, so be sure to check back in shortly. If you'd like to scan reviews of the soiree, please do so here. Ho ho ho!

The 2011 Yelpy Awards in Philadelphia

Posted by Michelle C

On Saturday night, Philadelphia's elite yelpers gathered at appRenaissance, a beautiful mobile app design studio/art gallery in Old City. Guests nabbed hot-off-the-press copies of Yelp's Top 10 Guide to Summer in Philly as they checked in with the lovely Leighann F. Photos were snapped red carpet style at the Yelp wall as guests made their entrance in "awards show chic" attire.

1-1 1-3
1-4 1-2

A hefty spread included porchetta sliders with broccoli rabe and Parmesan black pepper mayo from Royal Tavern, chorizo corn dogs with ancho chile mustard from Cantina Los Caballitos, shrimp ceviche with avocado mousse from Cantina Dos Segundos and Benton's bacon grease popcorn from Khyber Pass Pub. It was a feast that would have made a fine last supper, had the world ended in an apocalypse. Fortunately, it did not, but Philly Yelp partied like Doomsday was near.

  2-1 2-2 2-3

Dan Conway of Left Hand Brewing Company poured perfectly balanced Stranger Pale Ale and super delicious Milk Stout. A tasty dunkel by Tim Patton of Saint Benjamin Brewing Company was also served, as were several variations of red and white, sponsored by Liberty Travel.

3-1 3-2

Before long, the Yelpy Awards were announced. Blake F and Jim H stole the show, each taking two of the eight awards. With the Yelpies distributed, there was only one thing left to do: DANCE! Sequins, stilettos and shutter shades packed the dance floor while DJ QiCommand kept the beats pumping.

Yelp's Dallas Mad Hatter Tea Par-tay Elite Event

As the May monsoon Friday evening finally came to an end, dedicated and enthusiastic Yelpers gathered at the hidden "rabbit hole" venue – Hickory Street Annex to enjoy a very happy un-birthday to all at Yelp's May Hatter Tea Par-tay. Doning their wackiest hats they were greeted by some fabulous Yelpunteers wearing grins as big as the cheshire cat. Up the stairs they went to be transformed into a colorful world of imagination and excitement.

  IMG_6035 IMG_6143

Guests kicked off their fun by exploring the venue in awe of its beauty and its sweeping views of the city, catching up with fellow yelpers, and checking out the yummy treats provided by Trailercakes and mind-bending, popping boba tea courtesy of FruiTeaLicious.

IMG_6031 IMG_6032 IMG_6174  IMG_6170

With mini-cupcake flavors ranging from Strawberry to Peanut Butter and Jelly, Yelpers were got their tea-party-sweet-tooth fix and had FruiTeaLicious bubble tea, boasting flavors from the likes lychee and strawberry, to wash it all down.

IMG_6050 IMG_6076  IMG_6206  IMG_6098

For the adult tea-party refreshments Deep Eddy Sweet Tea Vodka served up some sweetness, like the 'Easy Eddy' and the 'Skinny Dip' from the adorable mixologists. The sweet tea and vodka was perfectly complimented by the three beer selections of Spaten brew – Spaten Oktoberfest, Hefeweizen, and Franziskiner.

IMG_6027  IMG_6045 IMG_6054 IMG_6084

Things got crafty and competitive when some croquet challenges starting heating and guests sans-hat were able to decorate their own foam crowns at the 'make your own hat' station.

IMG_6061  IMG_6067

IMG_6081 IMG_6105

Once the beer, vodka, cupcakes and bubble tea were consumed guests started to feel just groovy enough to congregate on the dance floor for some boogy-worthy tunes provided by DJ Jordan Bell with Spin Productions and an intense competition to see who would win the Best Hat Competition and be crowned the King or Queen of Hearts.

IMG_6183  IMG_6248 IMG_6211 IMG_6237

IMG_6077 IMG_6090 IMG_6109 IMG_6134

Now that our Elites and their guests are brushed up on their manners and have feverishly studied their tea-party etiquette they are equipped for everything polite and posh. Only kidding, Y’all! It was the most inaproppriate tea-partay ever! Just as a Yelp Mad Hatter Tea Par-tay should be. Check out the madness here!

Looking forward to what wackiness the June Elite Event will bring us.

In the meantime I will see you on Yelp!

May Elite Event Glasgow @ Avenue G

Posted by Chris Docherty

This is how it goes. You, you, you (in the morning) and you, meet me at Byres Road's newest coffee shop for a night of coffee (who'd a thunk?!), tasty nibbles and maybees a wee glass of wine. Happy? Dang straight! Yes dear yelper-type person, t'was yet another splawesome night of Elite shenanigans at Avenene G on Byres Road.

Picnik collage1
It's time for a game. Can you spot what's missing from the photographs? If you've leaped up and down shouting 'name tags! name tags!' then you're correct and in all honesty should probably start getting out more. Yes indeed, the name tags were a-missing (blatent lie dead ahead) which I intended as a way of lending the event an air of mystery and intrigue... ahem.

Picnik collage2 Despite this wee oversight (I had just moved house people! Jeez!) the chat was fierce and in the main centred around the quite wonderful grub on offer to the 30 strong crowd. Roasted venison, salmon and other wonderful meats were among the sneak-peak snacks laid out, alongside various other kick-ass mouthfuls

Picnik collage3
Then someone brought a puppy into the room... no wait, it just sounded like that as a collective 'awwwww' was let out as the super friendly staff (honestly, just real nice folks) made the rounds with the cutest little cups of drip coffee and shot glasses with mini lattes... move over Rover.

Picnik collage4
With wine supplied by the ever awesome Inverarity One To One, yelpers chatted, sipped, munched and something else...ed in the wonderful vibe of Avenue G. Big shout out goes to Sebastian and his staff, Niall for once again snapping us without our knowledge and of course to all of the kick-ass Glasgow yelpers for once again showing there support. Get in!

Picnik collage5
Can I sum it up? Nah, too lazy for that so I'll let Joanne H do the work: 'Coffee served in shot glasses, delectable little cakes, the chance to sample Avenue G's sandwich menu (also in miniature!), many yelpie freebies and great chat about marathons and the rules and limitations of teleportation - what a great wee evening! '

Cheers Jo. Right folks, check out the other bits and bobs on these here links. Feel free to review the Yelp out of the event (be nice mind!) and sweep 'em peepers at the photos

Take 'er easy folks.

Houston Elites Party Like It's 1963 At Fox Hollow!

Posted by Farrah Akhtar

Houston Elites donned their chicest vintage threads and made way to Fox Hollow Gastro Lounge for a 1960s throwback! Mixologist Evan Turner and his talented team helped the Sqaud toast it up with stiff Manhattans courtesy of Maker's Mark, vodka gimlets perfected with Tito's Handmade Vodka, and Sweet Leaf Teas. With old skool beats taking over the soundwaves, "Mad Men" playing on the flat screens, and patrons dressed to the mid-century nines, the night was in full-sixties swing! For the cool cats that hung out on the patio, Hight Cigars was on site chatting up the scene and handing out generous samples. Congrats to the winners of the best dressed contest who won tickets to Free Press Summer Fest and Art Car Ball! If you missed the event, check out the photos (thanks to Long T and MineralBlu.com, Stephen R and David N) and reviews.

Yelp Chicago's Easy Like Sunday Afternoon

Posted by Johnny Todd

Ahh, Chicago spring. There’s nothing quite like 40 degrees and rain to make one want to stay inside and flip through real estate in southern Florida. But, when you’re a member of the Yelp Chicago Elite Squad, the show must go on. And, where better to see a show than the Hard Rock Café? The promise of food, friends, drinks, music, and fun was enough to bring a hearty crew of Elites out to enjoy Yelp’s Sunday Funday.

5725283778_5d54945a93_b 5725283816_c08c87ffeb_b 5725285496_45f04df8e6_b 5725285742_595311f300_b

Originally scheduled to be a sunny patio affair, the event was reconfigured to take advantage of the stunning architecture of the Hard Rock Café. After walking through the imposing front door and on the red carpet, Elites walked up a grand staircase and were met with food offerings fit for the tropics. Lucky Elites dined on enough Strawberry & Apricot Cones, Applewood Smoked Bacon-Wrapped Dates, Spinach & Feta Flat Breads, Salami & Cambozola Skewers, Shrimp & Mango Ceviche Spoons and Coconut Chicken Skewers to feed an army. And, after eating such wonderful tropical food, what’s the best libation to pair with? Why, tremendous rum cocktails courtesy of Coruba! Elites got to choose from Tropical Tea or Mojito. No matter what choice they made, it was a winner.

What’s an event at the Hard Rock without some music and rock ‘n roll? We have no idea because this event had both! Chicago sensation Simpleton & Cityfolk killed sets of original and quirky covers while groups of inquisitive Elites had the opportunity to enjoy a private, backstage tour of the premises, see the Green Room and get a detailed history about the various memorabilia items from music’s hall of fame.

Not to be outdone, Elites who checked-in to the event won Coruba t-shirts and big prize winner, Maria F won a cool drinkin’ chair courtesy of Coruba for accurately answering the question, posed by the band from the stage, “Just where does Coruba rum come from?” Answer: Jamaica, mon. Andres DeLeon made sure that the paparazzi was in the house. Check out his righteous photos here. Did you miss the fun? Get a taste by reading the reviews here. The last day of the weekend was never so much fun as when Yelp got a hold of it.

SV Elites Live It Up at Joya

Posted by Abby Schwarz
This past Saturday, Silicon Valley Yelp Elites descended upon the lovely Joya in Palo Alto for a spectacular afternoon of freshly made fruit cocktails, piping hot paella, light cinnamon topped churros, and a room full of new and old yelpy faces.
  Joya Collage 1
Jennifer B. and john-michael c. couldn't stop gushing over the versatility and warm ambiance of Joya, taking their time getting comfortable in the roomy lounge area. Kristen T. sidled up to the friendly bartenders at Joya's bar for an array of swoon worthy drinks, including: pineapple sangria, caipirinhas, passionfruit, mango and guava mojitos, and many other enticing libations, adorned with  fresh fruit and mint leaves. Others sipped on Joya's refreshing wine and Cascal's fermented soda beverages.

Though the pitchers of drinks were admired and enjoyed, by all, it was Chef Fabrice's dishes that had everybody ooing and aahing.  VB L lauded his culinary skills: "He made sure that each dish, although something basic that each person may have tried before, was unique - the way he wished to present it.  He even shared his secret to those delicious brussel sprouts (but I'm not telling)." From creamy heirloom tomato gazpacho,  fragrant Paella, meyer lemon sauteed brussel sprouts, sun-dried tomatoes and smoked mozzarella croquettes,  salmon Cakes,  chorizo soria Kobe Beef sliders, and churros with ibarra chocolate dipping sauce - the food was replenished constantly throughout the event, and everybody was blown away by the medley of memorable flavors. Michael H.'s mouth is still watering from the sliders and Karen L exclaimed that the churros were the "BEST" she's ever had: "crispy and moist on the inside and lightly sugared on top."

All attendees were impressed by the diligent and beaming Joya staff. Owner Alex, Chef Fabrice, Chef Ann and the rest of the crew at Joya dazzled Silicon Valley Yelp Elites. Truly an ideal way to spend a slightly overcast afternoon: toasting fruity mojitos and hot churros.

Yelp's Bubbly Bonanza Of Champagne Shenanigans at Epernay Leeds!

Posted by Rowena Harris

Epernay 10

Whether the weather is glorious or gloomy, and ever changing as is its want in Leeds, the yelpers keep on yelping. On this particular blustery and sunny day in Yorkshire nothing was to stop some thirty plus folk from gathering at this most excellent Elite event in Leeds, in the one and only Champagne bar within the city centre – Epernay. Exclusivity was the key word, and key element, to this fabulous night as the divinity was lavished on all who were in attendance.

Epernay 1

On arrival folks were gifted to a teasing of the taste buds with a delightful Afternoon Tea Cocktail, specially concocted for the event as a fabulous one off, to highlight Epernay's newly designed Afternoon Tea Menu. This lovingly crafted cocktail was a light tipple to compliment their delicious teatime treats, a selection of savoury delectations, both tickling the senses and delighting the palate. There the mingling began, as folks arrived and were welcomed into the specially cordoned VIP area, to sup by candlelight and the slowly setting sun.

Epernay 2

Once everyone had settled in, a brief introduction to the tastings, Epernay and the afternoon tea menu were given by Rad, Epernay's superstar events manager. Dave, whose hand crafted canapés accompany the Afternoon Tea Menu at Epernay, then gave folks an insight into the specialised items on the menu. The décor and ambiance set the tone for an intimate and exquisite evening, with three tables laid out, complete with three different Champagnes from the divine Ayala range.

Epernay 3

Once the introductions were given the sampling began! First up yelpers got their lips around the Ayala Brut Majeur, a dryer Champagne and a delightful drink to enjoy as an aperitif before dinner. As each tasting progressed yelpers learned notes about the nature, history and processes involved in Champagnes, all told by the passionate and knowledgeable staff members at Epernay, whose understanding and insight of their main fare could not be challenged. Their proficiency and fervour for the bubbly stuff was practically overflowing, as were the sumptuous samples, and folks sipped in every bit of it!

Epernay 4

Second to be tasted was the Ayala Brut Rosé, again a Champagne on the dryer end of the scale, but vaguely sweeter to the taste with scents of morello cherry coming through. As everyone's glasses were topped up, folks learned that each Champagne from the Ayala range only differ in sugar content, and that the rosé wine allows for a real insight into the impact 'dosage' and blending has on a wine. Champagne Ayala, supplier for the courts of Great Britain and Spain up until WWII, have been a driving force in the movement to a more natural, dryer style of Champagne and this was tasted by all in attendance from the generous samplings at the event!

Epernay 5

And finally, after sampling, sipping and chatting, came the Ayala Rich Demi Sec with afternoon tea patisseries. Everyone was informed that "demi sec" means half sugar, in contrast to the Brut where all the sugar has been converted to alcohol, so it was a much sweeter wine. According to folklore, Epernay informed everyone that the word Brut does not in fact mean anything, and simply came about as the English preferred much dryer wines to the French, who then called them "brutes" for their taste and lack of sweetness! Ergo, the driest Champagnes are thusly dubbed "Brut".

Epernay 6

The afternoon patisseries soon sent folks swooning, and grappling for seconds, as Dave kindly handed out three different delights from the range; a pink macaroon, almond apricot pastry and vanilla and fresh fruit cup. He explained how the sweets are specifically crafted to compliment the sweeter Champagne, the flavours and textures perfectly melting in the mouth to be refreshed by a sip of the sweet stuff. Details, such as their use of vanilla pod rather than vanilla essence, not only highlighted the quality but evidently made all the difference in taste. One bite and folks were in heaven, as the sounds of satisfaction swept over the group, and the sipping continued!

Epernay 7

And finally, to close the event, yelpers were treated to one more surprise – the Yelp Awards! Nothing says glitz and glamour more than a Champagne event, and so to top the night off a few wee prizes, truffles from the lovely Bon Bons, were given for being useful, funny and cool. With a few hand picked quotes, it was smiles all round due to the quality, hilarity and personality of yelpers in Leeds. And it seemed everyone got their thirsts on, as a crowd stayed on behind to sip the night away in the delightful surround of Epernay for that post-Elite drink...

Winners 2!

A huge thanks goes out to Rad, Danny and Tom from Epernay for all their generosity, passion, knowledge and hosting and also to Dave and Elaine, whose canapés perfected the evening. Massive thanks also goes out to Matthew Kitchen, the fabulous photographer for the evening, whose pictures can be viewed on the Flickr and Emma-Lou H from Manchester, who came to help out! For all the gossip, don't just take my word for it, check out the reviews straight from the yelpers mouths...

Epernay 8

Until next time folks, yelp on yelp strong. Boom!

Epernay 9

'Heart, heart, heart. Everything was lovely. The afternoon tea cocktail was AMAZING, possibly my only low point was finding out that isn't on the menu forever. The staff were so knowledgeable and the three champagnes we tried were lovely. I cannot go without mentioning the gorgeous little pastries. They were also AMAZING! If the macaroons and the afternoon tea cocktail are limited edition, I had better return soon.' - Laura J

'Beautiful venue, excellent staff, efficient, friendly and very knowledgable. Prices surprisingly reasonable, especially the afternoon teas which i hope to sample very soon. Very well organised event and loved meeting new people, everyone seemed to have had as good a time as we did.' - Douglas P

'I'd like to apologise to Champagne because Epernay, who must be one of it's finest ambassadors, have shown me that a good Champagne is a delight and that if you are going to appreciate it fully you have to have delicious nibbles of the correct sort to compliment your Champagne. I would also like to thank the lovely staff at Epernay for showing me the error of my thinking; champagne isn't pretentious, that's just some of the people who feel the need to use it as a social prop. I have seen the light on the road to Damascus and I held up my glass to it and appreciated the pale salmon of the rosé.' - Tim M

Yelp Cincinnati Rock and Rolls at Soho Sushi

Posted by Alex Shebar

Sometimes, sushi can be a gamble. You’re never quite sure how fresh your rolls will be, how they’ll be prepared or even what’s in them. When it’s delicious, it’s delicious! But when it’s not … well, you know.

Soho Sushi knows this too, which is why their method is insanely amazing. You walk up to a counter, choose what you want in your roll (from meats to veggies to sauces) and they make it there in front of you! It’s quick, fresh, delicious – and Cincinnati yelpers got to experience this first hand

About 75 people gathered in Soho’s downtown location for a night of bites, beer and badass tunes with Yelp’s Rock and Roll Elite Event.

Yelpers started the night by choose their sushi as Soho’s staff worked lightning-fast to make it. Some people even went through the line twice (or three times!) to keep trying more. I was a little nervous about the concept and whether the sushi would be good but I definitely enjoyed it! I work very nearby so it will definitely make my lunch list,” Emily H declared.

After dinner treats were provided by Jessicakes, who made four different types of cupcakes capped with tiny Yelp flags for the sweet delight of all! The Jessicakes were scrumptious! I love baked goods as much as sushi, especially unique flavors. I had a Southern Comfort red velvet cupcake and the vanilla cupcake with strawberry icing, which was delightfully creamy,” Paige M said. There were even cupcakes that looked like giant sushi! We were rolled over.

Washing it down were a selection of samplings from craft beer makers Rivertown Brewery from Lockland, who introduced everyone to their fantastic line of cold brews. The night also featured some sake, plum wine and Japanese beer to really round out the selection.

The “mmms” and “noms” of the food and drink couldn’t be heard, though, over the fantastic music of BJSR, a one-man guitar player complete with drum machine. Mixing in terrific originals with fantastic covers of Paul Simon, Cee Lo, Rihinna and even the “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” theme song, he was a fantastic addition to a fantastic party.

Overall, we can’t say it better than Rachel G:

"The staff: A-freakin-mazing!
Sushi: Triple A+
Beer AND sake: Yes please!
And oh my goodness the cupcakes: Nom!
And awesome musical stylings: Over the top!"

Everything was truly amazing.

But don’t just take our word on the night’s awesomeness, you can read all the reviews right here. You can also check out the other awesome pics by photographer extraordinaire Anna Penny on the Official Yelp Flickr page!

Hot And Bothered At The Ember Room

There's a rumor out there that fire and water supposedly don't go together. But leave it to yelpers to defy elemental rules... Yes, last night we had one heck of a hot Elite Event at the Ember Room as rain raged on the streets of NYC.

While the DJ put a record on, the drinks started flowing fast with VeeV Acaí Vodka Superfruit Sangria and Acaí Mojitos. For those looking to swing a little less sweetly, bartenders popped Beerlao like we were loungin' on a Laotian vacation.

Enjoying the gorgeous natural design elements of this contemporary Asian-inspired Hells Kitchen hot spot, Yelp Elites also tasted small bites from the menu designed by celebrated chefs Todd English and Ian Chalermkittichai. We saw Thai pastrami meatballs, Vegetable Spring Rolls, Scallop Ceviche, Chicken Lollipops, Mango Sticky Rice, Chocolate Covered Strawberries and many other mini-munchies!

Edmonton Elites Sip, Taste, Groove, Love and Pose @ d'Lish

Posted by Brittany

On Monday evening, the Edmonton Elite Squad took the d'Lish philosophy of "sip, taste, groove, love" and turned it upside down for a very memorable night of fantastic local food and exotic drinks at the urban kitchen.

_MG_1786 _MG_1761 _MG_1716

The evening began with each yelper and their guest receiving a passport. And what's a passport without a passport photo? But these sexy shots were no ordinary passport photos thanks to our photographer, Jenna-Marie Lamb, and a few props to help. As Aditya R puts it, "Hats, feather boas, kinky lights and all the things that take an Elite Event to a burlesque show and back!  Sexy."

_MG_1630 _MG_1860

The Yelp Elites had a taste of the d'Lish Herbivore Heaven menu, enjoyed a sip or two of wine, and grooved to the sweet sounds of our DJ. Lauren N raves, "The food was amazing, I can't really choose a favourite among all the hors d'oeuvres they served. The bison and cheese crackers? Or maybe the parsnip chips or carrot soup? No, maybe the whipped cheesecake...I can't choose!" And everyone loved the Love station, where d'Lish-ous prizes were at stake for correctly guessing the mystery ingredients in the box.

_MG_1685 _MG_1746
The evening all came to a head with the "ultimate final showdown sudden death round" of mystery ingredients between Jacqueline S, Joanna F, and Liv V. The ultimate food sleuther was...our very own Liv V, whowon dinner at d'Lish with owner Amanda Babichuk! Door prizes were given away to a few more lucky yelpers, and the party raged on with eats, drinks, and dance moves galore!

_MG_1837 _MG_1846 _MG_1738

A huge thanks goes out to Amanda, Kirsta, and the rest of the staff of d'Lish, Jenna-Marie Lamb for her outstanding photography, and all of the Yelp Elite and their guests for making it a very sexy and d'Lish-ous night out! Liv V sums up the night: "This is the most fun I've had in ages!"

Check out the fabulous reviews of the evening, and why not write your own while you're at it? Don't forget to take a look through the rest of the evening's photos and the boudoir shots, too!

Until the next event, I'll SYOY!

Austin Yelp Elites Go Gaga for GaGa!

Posted by kelly stocker

Austin elites busted out of their straight laced world into a full dose of Lady GaGa inspired madness this Tuesday. We rampaged Oilcan Harry's with more glitter and more gutz than any Yelp party to date. And that's sayin' something! Patent leather, thigh high boots, wild hair styles, wigs galore and a frenetic and fabulous energy were the harbingers of one of our best Yelp events ever. Put aptly by Ryan S: "Some of y'all got more balls than Gaga for the outfits you wore.  Dayum!"

Three Olives Vodka brought their A-Game (and their Poker Face) with Cherry, DUDE and naked vodka flavors, O Face T shirts for the first 30 yelpers and three gorgeous girls carrying around Code Red shots. We mixed it up with zero cal Honest Tea's Honest Ade for some fabulous fruity summer concoctions. Meanwhile, a tall spartan circulated amongst the crowd with speared bites of Spartan Pizza and two gorgeous men dished up three different kinds of Sushi Zushi. Of course, who can eat when you're getting made up by Baldo Face Painting? Body art FTW!

And that's not all folks. Some of our fave yelpers had never seen a drag show (gasp!) so they were especially wowed by the absolutely lovely ladies of La Cage and our charismatic super MC Rob Faubion. This is the closest Monica O has "been to a perfect, expertly constructed cabaret queen goddess and Steve Martin's double." Fab photos of the crew were taken, and tweeted, by Ben & Bianca from Carlos Pena Photography. We'll have final figures on what we raised for the Capital City Mens Chorus but huge thanks to Austin All Maids, the Yay or Nay Sip & Splash boat party, Zach Scott Theater & NeuSkin for the prizes.

Don't believe we could squeeze all of this into two hours? Well see for yourself! Check the reviews on the party listing and take a mo to ogle the amazing photos. Oh, and the aftermath. Equally legendary. From Yolanda G: I'm pretty sure that I'll be sleeping with glitter and finding random feathers for the next week in my room. That's ok, because I still want to do it all over again!"

Until our next soiree, SYOY!

Detroit Elites Rock Out With Their Yelp Out!

Detroit Rock City was in full effect on Monday, May 16th as 70 yelpers and their friends gathered at local concert and special event venue The Crofoot Ballroom in Pontiac for what Molly H called "the most bitchin' elite event yet," the Rock Out With Your Yelp Out Rock and Roll Bash!

DMC_3949 DMC_3979
DMC_3993 DMC_3768

The night kicked off with sweet tunes from DJ Gerald Roesser as folks mixed and mingled over delicious cocktails made with Pearl Vodka. In addition to original vodka for mixed drinks the magnificent Crofoot bartenders served up 3 specialty cocktails dreamed up by Pearl--Electric Guitar: a blueberry vodka mixed with Blue Curacao and lemonade, the Rock Star: Pearl Plum with cranberry juice and Blue Curacao (a favorite of Luna M who had 3 of this "decidedly smooth" cocktail!), and the Rehab: a Bloody Mary mixed with Pearl Cucumber. Accompanying the Bloody Mary was a garnish bar stocked with spices, veggies, stuffed olives, and cocktail shrimp. Yummy yummy!

DMC_3841 DMC_3772

Tasty treats of dips, chicken and beef skewers, and fancy veggie flat breads were on hand compliments of 2Unique Catering. Megan M found the the food spread "amazing" and Xian Shane H was lifted to cloud 9 thanks to the onion dip which was "heaven for an onion lover" like herself. For a little sweet 2Unique also brought by some delectable mini cupcakes, lemon meringue tarts, chocolate covered strawberries and macarons. Talk about a sugar rush!

DMC_3785 DMC_3779

As folks chowed down, local rock trio (and according to Molly H "one of the best bands around!") The Kickstand Band plugged in and rocked out with a slew originals and covers of Leslie Gore and party animal (and local son) Andrew W.K. Before wrapping up their set we took a pause and raffled off 4 Crofoot travel mugs filled with pairs of tickets to upcoming Crofoot concerts including UK poptress Natasha Bedingfield, California Electropop gal group Millionaires, post-hardcore band Silverstein, and pop-punkers The Honor Society. Hot damn!

DMC_3865 DMC_3834
DMC_3922 DMC_3986

We wrapped up the evening with more DJ tunes with continued eats and flowing vodka! On the way out yelpers who checked in were given a parting gift of a Yelp shot glass to help them keep the party going at home.

Massive thanks go out to Kristen and the rest of the gang at The Crofoot Ballroom for being the most wonderful hosts a group of yelpers could ever ask for, Pearl Vodka for providing the libations that drove everyone wild, 2Unique for fueling our rock fury in the most delicious way, DJ Gerald Roesser for keeping our toes a'tappin, The Kickstand Band for getting our shoulders a'shakin, Chicago CM Johnny T for coming in and lending a hand, photographer Doug Coombe for snappin' the pics so we can remember this night for a long time to come, and of course our hardcore elite squad for always being up for a party!

Lookin' for more pics? You can see the rest of the good times here and read the reviews (and write your own if you haven't yet) over yonder.

So, until the next bash--SYOY!

Calgary Elites Sample Local Chef-driven Cuisine @Charcut

Posted by Wendy

On a blustery Sunday afternoon, excited Calgary Elites and guests made their way downtown to Charcut, named one of Canada's Top 10 Best New Restaurants by enRoute Magazine. With a sampling of succulent snacks, attractive ales and carefully curated cocktails, yelpers soaked in an inviting and memorable gathering place as this community connected for some quality offline time.

Charcut blog 1
From bacon chocolate fudgesicles to Charcut’s signature mortadella, yelpers nibbled on chef-driven urban-rustic cuisine sourced locally from City Fish, Bite Grocetaria, and Spragg's Meat Shop.  Elle C elates the "tasty tidbits from City Fish, mini pork pies, sliced cured pork, and chocobacon pops from Charcut were the most memorable."

Charcut Blog 2
Beyond ingesting the impressive eats, Elites imbibed on delicious drinks courtesy of PMA Canada and Tree Brewing. Dan D was most impressed with the Clarified Caesar: “The bacon garnish was some of the most delicious bacon I've ever tasted.” While Tiffany N thought the carmelized Dark and Stormy was “delightful” as were the “Pil and Hefeweizen” she sampled from Tree Brewing.

Charcut blog 3
A sneak peek at the show suites of the attached boutique Hotel Le Germain rounded out an all too pleasurable afternoon stunningly showcased by Dave Blaine of Voyager Photography.

All that flagrantly fabulous food will have Crystal E stopping by Charcut againsooner rather than later.”

Yelp Op Stelten@Kok Op Stelten, Van Woustraat 175

In 1 woord: G-E-W-E-L-D-I-G!"

Bedankt! Geniet! Nooit met Mate!

Lifestyles of the Yelp and Famous at DCPA

A very dashing group of Denver Elite yelpers and their guests got all gussied up this past Thursday evening for the Lifestyles of the Yelp and Famous Elite Event. Decked out in their finest finery, 100 yelpers were invited to meet up at EDGE Restaurant in the Four Seasons hotel to enjoy St. Germaine sangria (intoxicatingly delicious according to Diane K) and lovely light bites from the restaurant as a pre-show happy hour.

As you can see from the photos there was a lot of fun to be had even with the classy atmosphere as yelpers donned top hats, pink mustaches, and monocles for photo ops during the pre-show shenanigans. And of course everyone rounded out the night with the main attraction by heading over to the Denver Center for the Performing Arts to catch Billy Elliot the Musical. As Jessica J effused, "Not only were the seats awesome, the show was funny, touching and all around good fun!"

We have to give a big thanks to Jess Palmer for showing up to take the pictures for a second night in one week and if you want to peep those photos just click here. While you're at it don't forget to check out the reviews or the Talk thread to read all about the high class evening.

Thanks to everyone that made it out and until I see you again, I'll SYOY!

Yelp Tucson Gets Sugar High!

While in the rest of the country April showers typically bring May flowers, here in the Old Pueblo April heat brings May sweets! Kicking off a week of delicious deals on cookies, cakes and confections, Yelp Tucson celebrated with the launch of Yelp’s Sugar High at a new hip downtown venue, Rialto Arts & Antiquities. Tasty treats towered over attendees, while the terrific tunes of Shaky Bones Jazz Ensemble set the super sweet mood. This event marked the beginning of a sweet-filled week sure to leave you with a definite sugar high.

To get glucose levels going gaga Tucson businesses came out to offer sweet samplings of their decadent dessert-y items and yelpers devoured the decadent delights! Chelsea P is “officially hooked” on Hub’s rich and creamy ice cream and we heard she may or may not have bought a whole pint before going home! Michelle C claims this creamy concoction is “sexy decadent goddess” at it’s best.

7 3 8

Channeling sweet treats from across the pond Chocolate Iguana (see what we did there) provided some seriously sensuous scones. For the candy lovers in the crowd, chocolates and sour chews were up for grabs and Eric G found that the “treats were plentiful” with sugar taste “enough to satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth.” Berry lemonade, cookie bars, brownies, oh my! Café a la Cart brought out the best and blew yelpers away with their tasty treats and mega-sized offerings.

9 1

Topping Jide F's list of must eats was the mini red velvet and butter cream cupcakes from Mini’s Cupcakes. These bite sized beauties were both a feast for the eyes and his taste buds. A special thanks to Shaky Bones for belting out some seriously sweet beats, and to Shawdon, Jacob and Andy at Rialto Arts & Antiquities for providing us with such a cool place. Thanks also to Billy K for the part pics! Missed the launch but still in the mood for some sugar? Check out what folks have to say here! Stay Sweet Tucson!

Denver Yelpers Find A Perfect Pair at Japoix

On a dark and rainy Tuesday night Denver Elite yelpers and their plus ones cozied up inside Japoix Restaurant for Yelp's Perfect Pair. There were gathered there to sample two wines that are brand new to the market - Slanted Door Riesling from the Columbia Valley in Washington State and Posh red wine from the Northern Coast of California were both being poured by the lovely folks at Baroness Wines as tastings or full glasses. And since the two wines are both a perfect pairing for Asian inspiried meals, the chefs at Japoix were on hand turning out classics from the kitchen like sushi rolls, bruschetta, edamame, stir fried beef with noodles, and even veggie tempura and quinoa vegan sushi for our non-meat eating friends. Beyond the wine, some yelpers braved the Electric French Kiss, which Terry B calls, "the most mouthnumbing, incredible shot ever!

Elites were greeted at the door by the lovely Kelly T who gave them the latest and greatest Elite Event - watches! And in other take-home goodies, Chinese take out boxes were scattered about with Yelp fortunes, one of which definitely came true!

Besides being encouraged to dress alike, whether that was in color, style, or actual matching outfits Denver yelpers also found themselves with a Mah-Jong card in hand, searching for their matching piece. Once the two were reunited, yelpers holding the cards were invited to hug or high five and many of them chose to do both! As Rachel M put it, "This was the best Tuesday night I've enjoyed in quite a while!" Many, many thanks to those of you that made it out and mad props to photographer Jess Palmer for snapping the memories. Check out those photos, read the reviews, or join the Talk going on about the event...

Until I see you in Denver I'll SYOY (See You On Yelp)!

Yelp´s Showcooking @ Destille

Posted by Andreas R

Summer has conquered Vienna early this year and at eight PM sharp a rainshower started to pour down over Austria´s capital to perfectly time the beginning of the second Vienna Elite Event: Yelp´s Showcooking!

The Elite Yelpers were welcomed with a glas of Glas Rose Frizzante Punktgenau, and they did need a drink to calm down among the sight of all these liquers, juices, spices, wines and whiskeys that are displayed inside the shop. If paradise has a name it must certainly be Destille!

But there was no time for shopping, because Erhard Ruthner, the owner of the store, had already fired up the grill. With lots of humorous and skillfull remarks, five different dishes appeared out of nothing as it seemed. How do Crostini with bear´s garlic bruschetta und filled olives, zucchini rolls with a spicy  shrimp filling and Viennese chili-peppers filled with white tuna and crema balsamica al cacao sound to you? And those are only three out of the five fingerfood ready dishes that were prepared by the cook in front of the Yelpers. Of course everything could be tasted afterwards as well! The food was accompagnied by a wide selection of wines: Aumann St.Laurent Reserve 2006, Cono Sur Merlot 2009,Christ Weissburgunder Der Vollmondwein 2009 and Sileni Sauvignon Blanc 2010.

As a give away gift, the Destille team handed out gift bags consisting of the printed recipies of the five dishes that had been prepared before and a bar of delicious rum chocolate.

Read here what the Yelpers thought about the evening don´t miss our foto collection.

A very warm thank you to the fantastic Destille team around Erhard Ruthner, who won the Yelper´s hearts with a storm with his charme and his love for what he does.

Servus und bis bald!

Yelp Detroit Paints Along to Bob Ross at i3Detroit!

Posted by Annette

On Monday, May 9th twenty Detroit yelpers gathered round their acrylics at i3Detroit for a Paint Along to Bob Ross CMYE! The first group of 10 rocked the easels with their paint and brushes while the other half toured this amazing cooperative which houses tools and machinery used for wood and metal working, crafting, and electronics--all available to paying members. Build a robot, etch plastic, cut vinyl stencils, play in the chemistry lab, or record a podcast in their recording studio—all at i3Detroit!

Br2 BR3
Br4 Br5

When the first session finished their masterpieces, the groups switched and group two was up to paint under the tutelage of the gentle hearted Ross via projected video.

BR6 Br9

Bob Ross certainly makes creating those happy little trees look easy but we yelpers found it mighty hard to keep up with the master! And while each painting was beautiful in it’s own way, very few looked identical to Bob’s version. From more abstract blobs to full on forest fires, each yelper used their unique skills to create amazing works of art worthy of hanging in a Yelp museum.* We have a talent group here in Detroit!

Well, the little clock on the wall says we’re just about out of time. But before we go, we must say a hearty thank you to i3Detroit for having us! Also, if you want to see more, photos from the event can be found here and you can check out the fabulous reviews here.

So from all of us here I'd like to wish you happy yelping, and God bless, my friend.

Yelp Cooks II: Cupcake Camp in Minneapolis!

Posted by Annie D

For the second installment of the Twin Cities' interactive Yelp Cooks series, close to three dozen yelpers broke out their aprons and got sugar high at Cupcake Camp!

Our incredible hosts at Franklin Street Bakery went above-and-beyond to show off the new Edina location, situated right on the edge of Linden Hills and offering breads, cakes, coffee and more in a casual, neighborhood café. Franklin Street Bakery's larger location can still be found on Franklin Avenue in Seward, so now you can get your fill of their fare all over town.

At Cupcake Camp, Lynne Hackman, the bakery's pastry chef, walked the campers through a couple of fun frosting tutorials, including ladybug and flower cupcakes almost too cute to eat. Aww.

After watching the master, yelpers got creative with the plethora of samples, toppings and decorations laid out on the tables, including sprinkles, food spray "paint" and Pop Rocks, while the owners of the bakery, Mark and Wayne, treated the guests to samples of their creamy, housemade frozen Greek yogurt. It could not have tasted better on a hot day!

Mid-camp, one lucky guest discovered a cupcake cut-out under her chair and won a gift card to Franklin Street. Hooray! And towards the end of the evening, Amelia A's hilarious octopus cupcake brought home the old-school Yelp lunchbox prize for most creative cupcake. Kara K's artistry in creating the chicken cupcake needs honorable mention too.

As the campers said their goodbyes, the staff at Franklin Street handed out sugary gift bags filled with cookies and coupons. Pretty sure that yelpers left with at least a baker's dozen of sweet treats—maybe event two baker's dozens!

Wanna see more? Check out the purdy Flickr photos by Alanna Olson Photography and the reviews of the event on Yelp!

A big thanks to all the campers, intern Liz W. and Lya, Wayne, Mark and Lynne at Franklin Street for a great night!

If you missed the fun, keep an eye out for the next Yelp event on the Events page...

A Backyard Brooklyn Bash at Burger Bistro!

Last night Brooklyn Yelp hit up Bay Ridge's Burger Bistro for a blast of a backyard bash! The night started off a little chilly, but the Bistro heated up fast once everyone arrived and started jamming out to our old favorites, Roosevelt Dime.

Screen shot 2011-05-11 at 2.09.12 PM Screen shot 2011-05-11 at 2.12.20 PM Screen shot 2011-05-11 at 2.05.10 PM Screen shot 2011-05-11 at 2.15.04 PM

The amazing staff of the bistro of burgers brought out a stream of fantastic food that didn't stop all night. Brooklyn's finest yelpers got to scarf down smaller versions of the kitchen's acclaimed eats, including cheeseburger nachos, tuna tartare, smoked salmon, frizzled onions and fries with decadent dipping sauces like the irresistible chipotle mayo...and of course, THE BURGERS. There were sausage burgers, and waffle burgers, and Kobe burgers, and steak burgers, and DONUT burgers, and my personal favorite, bacon cheeseburgers.

It wouldn't have been a proper backyard BBQ without the huge bucket of beer in the corner! Blue Point's Summer suds were on hand, and of course Original Sin was served for those with cider in mind. Honest Tea provided everyone with a refreshing, non-alcoholic option, and kept the night cool. We must have been having too good a time, as a noise complaint kept the band from their second set, but the party definitely didn't stop there! Nobody thought they had room left for dessert, until s'mores, tiramisu and ICE CREAM SANDWICHES started pouring out of the kitchen. I'm still full thinking about it.

A huge thank you goes out to The Burger Bistro's staff, especially John, Vin and Jason for welcoming the Yelp Elite with open arms. Whether or not you made it out, be sure to check out the pictures and the reviews! I heard at least one yelper who wanted to live at the Bistro; all I know is that It's a good thing summer's here, because I'm looking to camp out in that backyard permanently too.

Get Your Yelp On Video Podcast 2.0: Brandon Arnovick of Mission Minis

Beginning with the affable Ike Shehadeh of renowned Castro sandwich joint Ike's Place, Yelp's Community Director, Ruggeford H. Joesten III, began a video Podcast series dipping into the lives behind the Emerald City gates of some of San Francisco's most interesting local figures. While perhaps not as ubiquitous a name (yet) as Ike, Brandon Arnovick of Mission Minis is quite the interesting character. Among other things, he's a world-traveler, former member of Head Automatica and Handsome Boy Modeling School, and now... the big (cream) cheese at Mission Minis. In the second episode of this ongoing series, Ruggy and Brandon talk music, marijuana cookies, and creating a revolution along the 22nd street corridor one miniature cupcake at a time! Gin, it's the spirit that brings people together and last night it brought 120 Yelp Elites together at Graphic Bar in Soho. By 7pm the crowds were gathering outside to get in for an exclusive Whitley Neill Gin tasting and cocktail making class.
  Picnik collage
Graphic Bar's fantastic team served up their infamous paint tin punch and Whitley Neill gin and tonics with Cape Gooseberrys to the thirsty yelpers on arrival. Out came the meat kebabs and homemade chunky chips, as well as other yummy nibbles. Before you knew it, it was time to start the activities...
  Picnik collage
Egar Yelpers huddled around the experimentation table scattered with vases, whisks, cafetieres and much more. Sarah, bar manager at Graphic, introduced the basics of cocktail making, a White Lady was on the agenda, and then the teams were off. Shaking, mixing, tasting... It all happened as the teams tried to make the best cocktail.
 Picnik collage
There were some seriously awesome creations coming from Tristan J's team with "Your Mum" tasting both 'sweet' and 'disgusting'. Erin H and co. were channeled their inner Tom Cruise a la Cocktail and there was a lot of ginger peeling, peach liqueur pouring, lemon squeezing coming from Mariah B's corner.
Picnik collage
Over on the other side of the bar Johnny the founder Whitley Neill Gin, education us on the infulences and history of the spirit. Yelpers got to stick their noses in an array of botanicals that make up this fabulous gin. That's not all, every guest went home with a miniature serving of Whitley Neill Gin to make their very own cocktails with everything they learned from the evening. (take out 'at home')

Picnik collage
A huge thank you goes out to Sarah and the outstanding team at Graphic Bar as well as Johnny at Whitley Neill. This cocktail experience Elite event was utterly entertaining and delicious. Want more? Check out all the photos, from the very talented Mr. Philip Sharp, read the reviews and catch up with all the gossip on Talk. You can also check out when the next Juniper Society at Graphic Bar is happening on Facebook.

Brains and Brawn, Bites and Beer!

Posted by Christina Gates

Triangle yelpers new and old gathered at Crabtree Tavern in Raleigh last Friday for an epic Athletes vs Mathletes throwdown. It was like March Madness in May (minus college basketball... and brackets... and bonfires -- well, unless you count that little mishap with the tablecloth -- sorry, Crabtree Tavern)! But just like all ACC fans know, you have to take sides and rep hard. With 300 competitors on the guest list, which team took home the triumph? We think Andrew W may be right when he jokes, "There were far more athletes than mathletes, though a quick poll would have revealed most of us were mathletes in disguise!"
Costume1 Costume2 Costume3

Crabtree Tavern serves a sports bar-but-better menu, and treated us to all sorts of tasty tid-bits that knocked it out of the ballpark! "Two thumbs and a big foam finger up for the buffet spread," yelps Melissa E, "I can't decide which was my favorite: the lamb sliders (perfectly cooked), the Short Rib Crostini, or the Pimento Dip." Erin W adds, "Can it be called light bites when you have, like, 5 or 6" of everything? All in the name review research, right, Erin? Elites even received $10 gift certificates so they can come back and feast again!

CT1 Food-1 Food-5

With free pints from SIX breweries (five of 'em local!), yelpers really scored big on beer. Many thanks to our talented and generous sponsors: Fullsteam, LoneRider, Big Boss, Roth Brewing, Natty Greene's, and Bud Light. Psalm S sums up our gratitude: "Big thanks to all the breweries present. I loved having them there, and their giveaways were awesome, AND I got to wear a light-up Viking helmet." 'Nuff said.

But let's not forget the carnie corner of games (provided by our friends at Interactive Playgrounds), the photobooth, or the massage magic of Sheryl Mika and Brandi Almario, working to relieve any tension due to sports fatigue OR statistics stress!

Out on the patio, a dozen raffle prizes and a Yelp swag bag buffet were on hand to help support the Southern Siberian Rescue. Huskies made everyone's hearts melt, and we raised $700 to help save local Siberians. Missed the opportunity to donate? You can still do so here

This was one ton-of-fun party that took 'pep rally' to new proportions! But don't take my word for it -- read the reviews and flip through the Flickr album (courtesy of the wonderful, talented Shon Digital Photography and It Speaks To Me Fine Art Photography).

I have to give special thanks to the attentive (and well-costumed!) staff at Crabtree Tavern, and especially to Kara and Leslie who worked so hard to make this event happen, and pulled it off with smooth success. Hip, hip, hooray!

Until next time, SYOY,

Yelpo de Mayo Open Party!

Yelpers came out in droves to celebrate Yelp Charlotte's very first open party! The Terrace at South Tryon Square hosted this fine fiesta complete with plenty of maraca shaking, sombrero spinning fun.

To satiate those rumblin' stomachs, five food sponsors were on hand to dole out some of Charlotte's finest. Harvest Moon Grille plated up delicious carnitas on fry bread with jalapeno jelly, Three Amigos served up two types of excellent enchiladas, Roots Farm Food sparkled with duck empanadas and  Moe's Southwest Grill amazed with a myriad of dips and chips! Fort Mill stunner, Cupcrazed, finished off the sweet evening with delectable treats like mini cupcakes in flavors of Mexican chocolate and Margarita and bite sized cookies! Will H has found "a new frenemy south of the NC border: Cupcrazed. I hate to love 'em because they are too darn good and yet I can hear my dentist imploring me to step away from the light!"

To wash down all that deliciousness, yelpers imbibed in margaritas from El Jimador and Cointreau, a bevvy of beers from Crown Imports – Corona Light and Victoria, Raspberry Truffle Whynatte lattes from Whynatte and crisp Portillo wine from Palm Bay International. Ian M says "This was the first time I tried Victoria, but it certainly won't be my last!" And Tiffany N remarked that she "drooled a bit before anwering how much she adored the WhyNatte Latte Raspberry Truffle concoction! It was that tasty."

Not a dull moment was had thanks to Shutterbooth! Yelpers packed into the famed booth and snapped festive photos all night long. You can check out those strips right here! Just down the way, vitaminwater hydrated the masses and hosted hula hooping and Power Tower. Can't you see the focus?! For the most festive of tunes, Elite Entertainment spun the best tracks to keep everyone shakin' all night long. And  Stila Cosmetics kept the mood caliente with fiesta frocking – applying not only remarkable makeup but also mountains of mustaches!

ASMC, our nonprofit partner, was on hand to manage the swag buffet and collect tips from the most generous of guests. All in all, Yelpo de Mayo raised $873 for Autism Services of Mecklenburg County! That's a whole lot of fiesta goodness.

Yelp Cincy Behind the Scenes at Cirque du Soleil!

Posted by Alex Shebar

For an afternoon, Yelpers got to watch crickets up close and personal.

Crickets? What’s fun about crickets? Well, how about when these crickets are bouncing, flipping, scaling walls, diving off cliffs and doing death-defying, amazing stunts all perfectly choreographed to music? Still unimpressed with crickets?

Ok, truth be told, these aren’t crickets (shocking, right?) – they’re some of the world’s most skilled acrobats, dressed as bugs, performing in Cirque du Soleil’s show, “Ovo,” which has found a temporary home at Coney Island in Cincinnati.

The performance showcases the world of bugs in a way you’ve never seen. Dragonflies twirl through the air, ants flip giant pieces of fruit with their feet, spiders twist themselves with rope, scarabs soar on trapezes and a lone traveling bug searches for his lost egg.

For an afternoon, yelpers got to take a behind the scenes look at Cirque and its amazing performers. There was a slight fear that looking behind the curtain might ruin the magic – but that was quickly washed away. Seeing these performer as real people, training, practicing, working to improve, made it even more unbelievable when we finally saw them in action.

Yelpers went in the training tent, where the cast was exercising and relaxing. We met with Karl L’Écuyer, a trampoline and wall performer and one of the “cricket” brigade. His squad did stunts on the show’s combination trampoline floor and rock wall – the only one of its kind in the world.

Karl went through the whole process of Cirque – how most of the performers were competitors before joining the show (three of the “crickets” were in the Olypics!). The acrobats come from all over the world to tour with Ovo, creating a multi-national, multi-lingual family.

The group had been working on “Ovo” for more than two years now and had done over 700 performances. But every day, every time, there’s still a little bit of fear for Karl as he prepares for his stunts. It was interesting to see that he feels the same angst that we do while watching him … well, at least a little of it.

FlipAfter speaking with Karl, the yelpers watched him do a bit of demonstration on a rock wall before heading into the main tent. There all the crickets gathered to practice and run through their routine – Ovo’s big finale. A high jumping, high falling, thunderous, pounding, choreographed section in which acrobats run, jump, climb and fall, often simultaneously. It’s a closer unlike any other.

Seeing the inner-workings of Cirque simply made Ovo that much more powerful. While watching the performance, you sometimes forget that that the acrobats are simply people – well, people doing seemingly inhuman acts of agility, bravery and strength, in and out of costume. Yelp’s peek behind the curtain just put it all into perspective.

Yelp Edinburgh's Wild Whisky Chase @ The Bow Bar!

Posted by Jenny Lovatt

Feasting on the finest flavours from Scottish coast-to-coast, Edinburgh yelpers embarked on a Wild Whisky Trail last night all without leaving The Bow Bar or Victoria Street! Whisky tasting with four regional whiskies accompanied by cheese from I. J. Mellis and 90% dark chocolate, delectable canapés of venison carpaccio, caviar and quails eggs from The Grain Store and our own Yelp whisky tasting notes competition – as Jurgen D said, 'it doesn't get more Elite than that!'

Sniffing, sipping and savouring were standard as Helen and Mike from The Bow Bar talked as through a no-frills and no-fuss whisky tasting. Rule number one: trust your own tastebuds! Don't let anyone else tell you how it should taste. Rule number two: don't stick your nose in the glass to inhale (said as Brad G and most of us did just that). Let the scent drift delicately upwards, far more palateable!

Not one, not two, but four (did we miss a number?) full drams of liquid sunshine were offered to the yelpers very kindly provided by Glenfarclas, Springbank, anCnoc and Laphroaig. Taking a trip from the lowlands to the highlands and off to Islay, Emily V mused 'the selection was beautiful, ranging from quite light in both colour and flavour to quite intense and dark.'

Parched to know how such whiskies taste? Joe A has one fierce memory and despite all four drams can still talk us through them the morning after: 'anCnoc, very bourbon-esque, very light, very fresh. Glenfarclas 15, a bit more bite and decent with a chunk of chocolate. Laphroaig Quarter Cask, very strong', peaty and smokey, 'and Springbank, a delightfuly spicy number that paired beautifully with the blue Stilton.'

Putting such perceptive palates to the test, The Bow Bar challenged the keenest yelper review skills with a tasting notes competition of the Glenfarclas 15. Toni G thought the 'smooth and warming caramel tones reminded her of eating Christmas pudding on a cold winter's day', Colin Z's mood was 'brought alive by the smoky, sweet deliciousness that is Glenfarclas', Doigy D tasted 'Caribbean spicy and citrus notes', Chris M wrote a lymeric-that-shall-not-be-repeated, and Greg D savoured the simple 'honey and vanilla'. But it was Joe A himself that took home the prize bottle of Glenfarclas: 'like a loving slap in the face from the ex-girlfriend you still love.' Short but (bitter) sweet!

It wasn't just whisky that whisked us round the Scottish shores. I . J. Mellis provided some sensational cheeses such as Mull cheddars, a creamy blue stilton and goats cheese. Pairing each whisky to a cheese alongside some dark chocolate from 70% - 90% you'd think these yelpers' tastebuds couldn't be any more tantalised.

Think again. Canapés from The Grain Store were served, and for 5 whole minutes the room was silent barr the occasional hushed exclamation of appreciation for Carlo's minature masterpieces. Venison carpaccio served with beetroot, home-smoked salmon with caviar and dill, seasonal asparagus and quails eggs. Need we say more? Joe A will. 'Oh my lord, Grain Store, you had me at "Ven". To die for." Chris M's only regret is that there wasn't more as 'there are few things he wouldn't have done for another bite of that venison!'

Despite being a school night, more drinks were ordered, the Glenfarclas 40 was brought out and it was past 11pm before the last yelpers trickled out the door. So let's raise our glasses, make a toast and give many thanks to Helen and Mike at The Bow Bar, Grace from I. J. Mellis, Carlo from The Grain Store, all four whiskies Glenfarclas, Springbank, anCnoc and Laphroaig, Robin Mair for the photies, and last but never least the Edinburgh Elites and their guests for bringing the party!

All that liquid sunshine has Edinburgh yelpers glowing! Read all the reviews, join in the chat and have a peek at the photies.

Yelp Indy Elites Go Greek @ Santorini

The ever-revered Greek philosopher, John "Bluto" Blutarsky asked of us, "what's all this laying around stuff? Why are you all still laying around here for?" And lie around we will not, Bluto. Yelp Indy's Elites took their finest bed sheets and put 'em to better use -- Toga party! Elites convened at Santorini Greek Kitchen to toga, to prove to teetotalers 'round the globe that local craft beer, Flat12 Bierwerks, and luxurious Vodka from Zodiac matter -- and to take down the finest Greek food in town.

Santorini "definitely brought it with a very impressive spread of some of their best dishes. The food was far and beyond other Elite events I have attended. Everything was delicious and there was so much of it," Kjirsten K sings.

Flat12 Bierwerks tapped a keg of their American Wit. They also brought their very special seasonal -- Glazed Ham Porter. Along with their Puppet Show Pale Ale, Half Cycle IPA and Milk Stout, Flat12 gave the Elite Squad the lowdown on Indy being a boon town for beer pre-prohibition. And now with Flat12 on the scene... history looks to repeat itself. And Zodiac Vodka brought their luxury potato vodka to craft "icebreaker" cocktails and their black cherry luxury vodka, too.

Elites, old school and new school, gathered to get to know one another, win prizes like Yelp lunchboxes and Flat12 "Jesus Loves Porter" shirts, and revel in the reality that, yet again, all under one roof, Yelp is connecting awesome locals to awesome local businesses.

Thanks to Santorini owners Taki & Jeanette for being such gracious Grecian hosts.

Thanks to Flat12 Bierwerks for brewing what they brew & Zodiac for bringing their drink.

Thanks to SolarFlarePhoto for the shutterbuggery.

Five stars are rolling in here.

Until the next time, SYOY (See You on Yelp!)

Yelp Cincinnati's Behind the Stage Tour of 'Infamous Lovesongs'

“I hope this night puts down deep roots
I hope we plant a seed
‘Cause I don’t wanna waste your time
With music you don’t need” – Over the Rhine, “I Don’t Wanna Waste Your Time”

The night couldn’t have been more Cincinnati. The nationally acclaimed band Over the Rhine, named for the historic Cincy neighborhood, partnered with the unbelievable Cincinnati Ballet for three performances in May. The show, “Infamous Love Songs,” was everything you could want from an evening out: beauty, passion, sound, art and, yes, love.

The band made up of Karin Bergquist and Linford Detweiler and their backup accompaniers, sang a collection of their works on a raised stage as members of the ballet performed beside them. It was impossible to figure out who to watch – the musicians or the dancers – and you felt you had to do both simultaneously. After realizing this was impossible, you sat back and just let it all play out in front of you.

But before the curtain was raised, Yelpers took the stage for a behind-the-scenes tour of The Aronoff Center where the show was held, learning just what ballet dancers do before donning tights and toe shoes.

We started in the main hallway, which was where the dancers checked in and went over the schedule. We learned that all ballet shows are in a constant state of flux, as things are being changed or substitutions being made – especially as dancers get hurt and need to swap roles or take on more. (Why yes, it does turns out going “Black Swan” crazy isn’t the only problem ballet dancers face.)

Sheets© 2011 | goanamedia.com

Face © 2011 | goanamedia.com

We also saw the board with notes for the dancers. Countless pages of things being tweaked or completely changed. It was fascinating to learn the show you see one night may not be the show you see next week.

The rest of the tour was equally interesting. We saw dancers doing a final warm-up before the show began. We were taken through the wardrobe room, full of sewing machines for quick alterations or full on costume repairs and washing machines to make the costumes clean between shows. We saw the storage room, full of props, lighting and merchandise. And of course, the main auditorium, where the stage was already set for the upcoming show.

And then, the event. We can’t describe the beauty of this show. For those unfamiliar with Over the Rhine, they’re one of pop-music’s hidden gems (and, as we all know, Yelp is very good at finding those hidden gems.) Over the Rhine are part rock, soul, jazz, Creole, funk, piano driven and everything in between. And to see them live, with the beauty of the ballet behind them, it was … breathtaking. A powerhouse performance.

The show was for dance lovers, for music lovers, for everyone. The tour for yelpers, the dancing, the music, the whole night – it was completely unbelievable. An hones-to-god once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Yelping Under the Big Top in Salt Lake City

Posted by Jeffrey

Salt Lake City Elites and their guests were yelping under the big top at Sugar Space, a multidisciplinary art space in Salt Lake's funky Sugar House neighborhood, that was transformed into a red and white tent for a night of circus-themed pleasures. Kid's stuff? Hardly! This was a circus for grownups!

Sugredwhite Sugarspace

What's a circus without its signature foods? Da Hot Dog King was on hand slinging some of his famous dogs: the Thai Dog, the maple-bacon Kilby Dog, the potato salad Picnic Dog, and even a tequila-raspberry dessert dog. Peanuts? Chris and Dave's was also handing out boiled peanuts (in Utah? Finally!) in tasty flavors like tomato-basil.

Hotdogking  Chrisndaves

Cotton Candy? You betcha? Snow Cones? Uh-huh. But not just any snow-cones, these were booze-infused creations like tequila-lime and vodka-tiger's blood. The bar was pumping out other cocktails including a Cotton Candy #2, Orange Tiger, and Elephant Lips. While yelpers sipped and sampled, they worked on a balloon animal contest, and voted for the worst submitted clown name. (Obama Fun Laden was the winner).

Cottoncandy  Snowcones

In between snacking and socializing, the lights would dim and incredible acts took center ring. Aerial Arts of Utah presented a trapeze number, a performance on the aerial silks, and an acroyoga performance while Heidi Lyn-Butterfly showed yelpers a whole new level of hula-hooping.

With the music turned up, yelpers, guests, performers, and Smashing Shots Photography took to the dance floor. Proof that you're never too old to clown around at the circus!

Thanks to Brittany at Sugar Space and to the best yelpers in the universe for the good times!

Yelp's Secret Party!

Posted by Annie

May day! May day! Incoming crowds of Dublin Yelpers! They came in their droves to discover what lay behind the secret side door in the Twisted Pepper. Upon descending the stairs they were greeted by Elaine Kennedy Make-up, once Elaine beautified folks they could get their photo taken in the photo booth!

In the basement area Metalman and Trouble Brewing kept the drinks flowing for all the thirsty guests. As the suggestive lyrics of Rose Lawless entertained, hungry Yelpers munched up salads from Cornucopia, delectable cupcakes from Corner Bakery. All this again was washed down with a selection of whiskies from Cooley Distillery and wines from Barefoot Wine.

Greg Fry guided the masses with his Career Coach tips as Gocar gave out free registration to people on the day. Full of Dutch courage the curious souls started to exlpore the venue futher and climbed stairs to the next floor which opened into a room full of lanterns and jazz and more food!

Café Azteca filled plates with scrumptious sopes and educated all about Mexican cooking. Kevin and Paula from Hanley's Cornish Pasties explained their passion for Cornish pasties whilst dishing out multiple varieties of them. Burrito & Blues let their name do the talking and had people raving about their burritos. The cutest vendor of the night was at DiFontaine's Pizzeria and he worked tirelessly placing delicious pizzas in hungry hands!

On such a beautiful day it was a terrific way to discover new businesses and meet old and new friends. Thank you so much to all the vendors involved who were so passionate about this event happening. Huge thank you to Eoin and all the folks from Bodytonic who were terrific for letting the Twisted Pepper host this event.

Final thanks go to all of you for giving Yelp your time and coming out to have some fun! You can read the reviews and post a review here! Catch up on the gossip of the night here! You can look at all the pretty pictures taken by the talented Claire Nash here! Once again thank you so much to all involved - it was all worth it to see so many happy faces!

All my best,

You Already Know...We Be Pubbin' at The Blaguard!

Posted by Tara Lewis

What do you get when you gather the Yelp DC Elite, add a few PBR tall boys, a couple of refreshing Twisted Teas and some gangsta whiskey drinks such as The Gully Gulp and The Real OG at one of coolest, newest neighborhood bars? Don't know the answer? A little slow today from residual drinking affects? Okay, okay, I'll give you a break. You get...

We Be Pubbin' at The Blaguard!

Yelp DC got fricky, fricky fresh and kicked it in super casual style at City Paper's pick for best neighborhood bar. In less than an hour, whiskey shots were flying and the crew were dancing on bar benches, bringing the neighborhood to attention that Yelp was in the hoooouse! What can I say? That's how we do it!

Special thanks to The Blaguard, Twisted Tea and PBR for hookin' these yelpers up with an amazing time! Also, shout out to Sean Martae, the event photographer that captured all kinds of awesomeness on camera. To check out more buzz about this hip hoppin' event, check out the reviews!

Until next time, keep on keepin' on yelpers!

Yelp Toronto's Royal Reception at Atelier Cafe Lounge!

Posted by Vivek S

Toronto's regal elites got together last week to celebrate Will and Kate —and inebriate— at Yelp's Royal Reception. What better spot to get crowned than the Atelier Cafe Lounge on King Street West!

Brews were provided by local brewery Steam Whistle and nibbles courtesy gluten-free and vegan bakery Bunners. Sophi R was "lucky to have snagged one of those yummy cupcakes. They were out and gone in a flash!" Yelpers also got their pinkies up for another boozy brew: The High Tea cocktail!

Genevieve L thought "that the decor suited the event theme very well with its very elegant, yet modern black and white damask wallpaper." Against a soundtrack of British tunes yelpers donned crowns, tiaras and other finery and got their monarch on! For first timer Chris P "it was a bit surreal to suddenly see all the people I know as photos and messages on Yelp suddenly standing before me as real life 3D actual humans."

Elites and plus ones enjoyed the Commonwealth Corner photobooth by Paul Hillier Photography and got in touch with their royal side. "Photog Paul was a treat," notes Brian K. He "was very patient working the photobooth; hopefully there aren't too many ridiculous drunk photos of me." Full event photography here.

Many thanks to Daniel, Jane and the whole Atelier Cafe Lounge crew for putting on a royal performance behind-the-scenes for an amazing evening of yelping fun.

And a huge note of thanks to the incomparable Crystal H, who plays a mean game of monarch stare-down.

Halifax Elites Class It Up at Seasons By Atlantica!

Posted by Ben

Forget the Royal Wedding, on April 29th Yelp's Uptown Elite Party was the hottest guest list in Halifax. 60 Elites and friends soaked up the swank at Seasons by Atlantica during the city's very first Elite event filled with sips, snacks and a show. This newly renovated winebar had some serious swagger from the very start, welcoming guests with panoramic views of the city nightscape and a signature cocktail made with local blueberry juice, peach and raspberry liqueurs and ginger soda. Kirk F was definitely on the right track when he dubbed this drink "blueberry delicious awesomeness."

Picnik collage
The feast for the senses continued to soar once guests passed the velvet ropes and red carpet. Curried lobster shooters, Oulton's duck and seared scallop spoons, and the highly sought-after pulled pork poutine made our wonderful hosts more and more popular with every new platter introduced to the room. Dairy-defiant Kimberley M even "ate around the cheese on the poutine because it just *had* to be sampled."

Garrison Brewery kept the cold ones coming with their full-bodied, locally brewed Irish Red Ale on tap while Jill M loved sampling wines from Bishop's Cellar: "honestly, who could complain about that?" Well, no one from the sounds of all the glasses clinking! You would have thought the entire party had won the lottery when we annouced that this waterfront wine boutique is now offering online shopping and direct-to-door delivery.

Picnik collage
Local songstress Sheva Solomon kept the party entranced with soft melodies from her album The Closest Thing, some teasers from her upcoming record, and even a broken-down acoustic cover of Katy Perry's Teenage Dream. Meanwhile, we stole away our Elites to let them in on a special secret...one of them would be spending the night in a 15th-floor executive suite thanks to the Atlantica Hotel. Schwagged out with special gifts from our sponsors, Mike B held the lucky key that unlocked a night of luxury and gourmet breakfast in the morning, of course!

Picnik collage
While it never hurts to fill a room with foodies in cocktail attire, Philip H hits the nail on the head when he says "it's nice to put a real face to the reviews." We couldn't agree more which is why we can't wait to do it all over again! But for now, bask in the afterglow with the gorgeous photo set put together by the lovely Heather of Twin Bridges Photography.
