Yelp Bowls Into Cincinnati!

Bowling was taken to a new level Saturday night - away from bored teenagers and obsessive rollers with names like “The Dude” – when Cincinnati Yelp filled Star Lanes on the Levee for some bites, booze and bowling!

The mood-lit, neon-glowing area was a grand place for anyone to party. Yelpers were given the special back VIP area, which included a patio, multiple pool tables, our own personal bar and, of course, four lanes of rocking bowling.
 
Forty people were able to play in total (ten per lane), creating some fierce competition amongst rollers. Winners of each game took home the coveted tiny Yelp trophy, complete with a “People Love Us on Yelp” mini-sticker. A worthy prize for any victorious pin-destroying champion.

Working this hard would build up an appetite in anyone, and we had all that covered. Star Lanes served up monstrous mouth-watering munchies, including pizza, mini-burgers, fries, pot stickers, chicken skewers and coconut shrimp. But it was the delicious fried mac & cheese bites that knocked everyone down! As Becky R put it, “I wasn't sure how the food was going to be, but I was blown away by the delicious items we were able to enjoy! Mmmmm omnomnomnom.”

Dos Lunas Tequila and Budweiser took care of quenching everyone’s thirst with a selection of beers and signature drinks including a Pomegranate Margarita, Rested Ginger and the star of the evening: the Yelp-A-Rita, which was made with Dos Lunas Silver Tequila, Taste of Florida Margarita Mix, fresh lime and … Bud Light Lime? Indeed! “It was fabulous. You would really think tequila and Bud Light wouldn’t go together, but they so do!” Rachel G declared. The way they were quickly being made and downed, we’re not surprised at all.

Recess presented by Yelp and The Onion in Minneapolis!

The sun showed its face last weekend for a schoolhouse rockin' good time at Recess, an open event in Minneapolis organized by Yelp and The Onion. The Nomad World Pub's shark mural provided the West Bank backdrop for a Saturday afternoon of old school ball-bouncing fun in the form of a four square tournament (the game, not the app!).

Competition was fierce as twelve teams slapped, lunged and battled it out on the pavement. Playground sportsmanship was at an all-time high with zero fouls called by Commissioner Chris. In fact, only one player wore the Dunce Hat... and it was by choice.

In between (and sometimes during) rounds, the group enjoyed complimentary beverages provided by generous sponsors Magic Hat #9, Crispin Cider and Mike's Hard Lemonade. DJ Millions Billions naturally instigated a couple of impromptu dance circles—almost as awkward as a 7th grade dance!

 

In the end, it came down to a tie between Hip To Be Square, Quattro Formaggi and the Ultimate Foursquare League. After a nail-biting tiebreaker, the Ultimate Foursquare League claimed their first place finish, Quattro Formaggi took second and Hip to Be Square took third (and also left with the special "Best Team Uniform" prize for their super hip '80s blazers and sunglasses). Honorable mention goes to the Recess Warriors, who actually had to split into two teams because there were too many warriors, and Supposebly Irregardless, who dressed as teletubbies!

Prizes were donated by local businesses like ROBOTLove and Shuga Records, as well as restaurant gift cards donated by the A.V. Club.

Seattle Elites Go Zaney For Zinzanni!

Seattle's Yelp Elite Squad celebrated a big night out unlike any other. A two-hour whirlwind of cirque, comedy and cabaret all served up with scrumptious snacks and drinks. Teatro Zinzanni hosted more than 350 guests who came dressed to impress. Whether they wore their best theatre garb or brought out the boas and masks, it was an unforgettable event!

Whether it was the mini caprese salads, the goat cheese crostini, chicken on a puffed pastry, salmon mousse in cucumber or the chocolate-covered strawberries, guests were spoiled with not just a fabulous show but fab food to boot! 

Chilled champagne and Honest Tea were on hand to wet the whistles of guests as they watched an incredible trapeze performance by the Ssens Duo.

Wild Smiles face painting kept the party poppin' as complimentary face painting was offered to guests who came under-dressed.

Sunday Funday at Encore on Colfax!

What do you get when you mix fantastic folks, delicious food, and a bevvy of adult beverages? Why, a Sunday Funday, of course!

 

Denver Elites enjoyed the beautiful weather and yelped it up on the patio of Encore on Colfax yesterday with a tasting menu not soon to be forgotten! The squad noshed on an incredible menu including falafel sliders, flatbread pizzas, Encore's award-winning house cut fries, tuna tartare, bacon-wrapped Telluride jalapeno poppers, lamb meatballs, pulled pork sliders, pumpkin coconut curry soup, fennel arancini, churros, and carrot cake bites. Drinky drinks were sponsored by Rain Organics Vodka and Great Divide Brewing, and guaranteed that the party got buzzin' in a hurry. The event was elite only and very intimate, so everyone interacted a ton and had a blast!

Yelp Thinks You're Hot Stuff!

On Thursday evening, Kansas City Elites strutted their hot stuff at the Robert Arriaga Salon down in the Power & Light District. The salon offered up services for men and woman, including cuts, blowouts and mini makeovers. If you thought Elites were hot before, wait til you see how they looked after!

In the way of edibles, Mandoline Cafe served up sushi, vegetarian spring rolls and sizzling Korean tacos. We got our drinks on with margaritas, hot apple brandy cider and sangria prepared by Amy B of Tastefully Simple and compliments of the salon. And for those with a sweet & spicy tooth, there were cinnamon candies and chili pepper chocolates to get our mouths burning up!

 

Elites, newbie and vet, met and mingled between services. As Christyn K puts it, "The Yelp community never ceases to amaze me. I feel like every time I attend one of these I hear the Cheers theme song in the back of my head - where everybody knows your name. It's like being home again."

By the end of the night, everyone was on fire as evidenced by the pics in the photo booth!

Lederhosen, Frauleins & Belching Bavarians At Honolulu's Yelptoberfest

70+ Honolulu Elites were treated to a delightful sausagefest in honor of Yelptoberfest at downtown wine haven Brasserie Du Vin. The hidden European cask room and parisian back patio were transformed into a Yelp-up beer garden with giant beer stein cut outs and a red Yelp balloon arch.  

    

   
 
Yelpers dressed up in their hawt-est pair of lederhosen and got jiggy by sampling an array of seasonal beers courtesy of Samuel Adams. Brasserie Du Vin wooed yelpers with house-made sausages (Lamb Merguez, Brats, Seafood Sausage, oh yeah baby!), cheeses, fruit and chocolate fudge pastries. Ooo la la! 

    

 
 
Seasoned Elites, newbies and plus ones, mixed, mingled and giggled while participating in the Bavarian Belching contest. As Stephanie I so aptly put it: "PREGNANT, BELCHING, BAVARIAN GIRL. yeah, THAT happened!" The gas happy winner walked away with a sixer mixer of Samuel Adams beers and a rad Yelp T-Shirt.

   

 
 
As Elite Grant S so poetically stated, "Part of me thinks you could host a yelp elite event in a public restroom and it would still be awesome." True that. True that.

San Antonio's Hot Havana Nights!

San Antonio Yelp Elites crawled back in time to a classic Cuban celebration at the historic, boutique Havana Hotel on the famed Riverwalk in downtown San Antonio. Adorned in their best red lipstick, pin curls, vintage guayaberas, and a sizzling selection of hats, "everyone was dressed to the nines," according to Bettina R for a Hot Havana Night! 

Yelpers drank from the "free-flowing mojitos," rum punch, and Cuba Libres sponsored by Bacardi Rum or threw back a cold one sponsored by Bud Light while listening to authentic vintage Cuban music and watching a sexy salsa performance from local dancers at Studio One.

But it was Chef Manny Olivarez, from local favorite, Tin Can Tacos, who stole the show with his specialized menu created just for the event, including Cuban quesadillas, pulled pork tacos, chipotle chicken mini tacos and his slew of salsas, like pineapple habanero, only got things hotter throughout the night! When Danny C "saw Manny on the porch cooking up a storm," he was so overcome with happiness, he "stongly considered hugging everyone in a ten-foot radius."

   

Of course, there was Yelp schwag-a-plenty, yelpers meeting in real life who had previously only been acquainted online, and an after-party UYE that lasted to the wee hours of this Hot Havana Night. A huge thank you from Yelp San Antonio to the incredible and attentive staff at Hotel Havana, the great peeps at Bacardi and Bud Light, to Chef Manny from Tin Can Tacos, the super sexy dancers from Studio One, and a massive thank you hug to our fantastic photographer, Carlos Peña, for capturing this night in a beautiful light.

Yelp's September Open Party: Yelp's Puttin' On The Ritz!

"Epic is a word best reserved for books written by J.R.R. Tolkien or parties choreographed by Yelp.com."

Austin yelpers donned their flapper best this Thursday and headed downtown to the aptly named Speakeasy to put on the ritz! Thanks to our friends Blue Velvet, Lucy In Disguise, HatBox and Avenue Five (who offered discounts off services) people looked like Al Capone's cohorts in crime as they streamed into the venue and were confronted by an ADD kid's dream of options at all five levels of the bar. 

Yelpers, food bloggers, press and twitterati ooohed and aahed over their gift certificates from super fancy Uchiko and bites from food sponsors Imperia Sushi, Austin Cake Ball, Arte Y Chocolate, The Shed BBQ and Snap Kitchen. In between snacks, yelpers indulged in a bounty of beverages from Makers Mark, Rain Organic Vodka, Bacardi, Pacifico, HonestTea, Give Energy & Give Water, and Whipped Lightning, alcohol infused whipped cream.

 

In the Music Lounge (above right) BlueSqueezebox & Floating Opera Orchestra rocked out jazz, big band and swing, mixing originals with jazzy covers of contemporary songs as dancers from The Lindy Project lindy hop hop hopped all over the dance floor, wowing us with their fancy footwork.In between sets, the lovely ladies of Black Widow Burlesque took it off (really, almost ALL off) while performing sultry, sassy stripteases on stage. From Sarah Z: "This party was KICKASS. Huge props to the sponsors for providing free booze and snacky-snacks, and the Black Widow Burlesque dancers for being braver women than I could ever be."

Above the Music Lounge, VIPs had a special mezzanine all to themselves with a dedicated bartender, pool table, hand-dipped makers cocktail shakers and Whipped Lightning shots. As one elite, Ryan S recaps, "I stole a hat, I was bleeding at one point, and there was free booze.  Frankly, it's the start of a good night."

On the other side of the venue is Kabaret, a dimly lit sexy space with big read leather furniture - the perfect place to lounge and chat and catch a quick kiss in a dark corner. The very talented Austin Kimble and Kelsey Hoar crooned out jazzy standards worthy of Ella and Louie as guests took their turns posing for fabulous photos in Jonathan Garza's photobooth, creating almost 800 gorgeous pictures. For even more titillation, the venue played some 20s nudie flicks on their projector screen. 

The Kabaret mezzanine indulged another of our favorite 20s vices: gambling! Wheelers and dealers from Texas Poker Supply handed out chips and funny money for blackjack, craps and roulette. Our top three big winners took home tickets to local Austin events provided by Wyatt Brand PR. Caitlin M claims "I lost a shoe and my ID, and maybe a little of my dignity, but I don't regret a thing."

But wait... that's not it! Upstairs on the rooftop terrace, Mister DJ Mike Michaels took us from 1920 to 2010 as he spun and live streamed the dance party. Recordings available here! The night ended with Kelly doling out door prizes from the Texas Hill Country Olive Company, Lake Austin Spa and Resort, Whipped Lightning, the Belmont, Wyatt Brand, Ace Tailors, Elevation Burger and Hosteria Verde.

The Austin American Statesman dropped by to take some sweet shots and statesman blogger Michael Barnes posted his very own review. The crowning achievement of the night? A missed connection! Oh and the five star average after 60 reviews of the shindig.

My favorite line is from a review by Ilsun P: "When my biggest concern the next day is trying my best not to puke or poop myself, you know it was an awesome party."

Houston Yelp Gets Leid!

It was a long, sizzling hot summer, and with Fall officially beginning at 10pm on September 22nd, the Yelp Elite Squad said a farewell to the scorching season with a festive party on the patio at Kobain!

More than 125 Elites and their guests chose to "Get Leid With Yelp," donning bright colors, grass skirts and – yes – coconut bikini tops. Special thanks to Atlanta CM Kathleen M and yelper Amanda P who worked fast to get the lines moving and into the bumpin' party. Eager crowd we had there!

Yelp Houston's favorite mix master DJ Ceduxion spun island tunes moshed in with dance party beats to get the crowd in a luau spirit, as cold brew from Miller Lite, sexy bubbly by Champagne Meunier & Cie and frozen sweet Kobainsicles brought the raising temps down. Buffalo Wild Wings Grill And Bar – Washington provided party goers with assorted wings, flappers and boneless bites – all devoured in record time! Did you remember to pick up your lunch punch card?! And there to curb the sweet tooth cravings were rich brownies, cookies and delectable bite-size chocolates courtesy of The Chocolate Bar. Oh sweet goodness ... the brownies were packed with chocolaty chunks of heaven!

The beach activities continued as yelpers checked out the sunless spray tan station hosted by Premiere Mobile Tanning, and the first 10 lucky Elites to sign up walked away with a $25 gift card! We'll keep them in mind come the chilly fall and winter. And group by group, yelpers were transported back to Hawaii with the wacky and wild photo booth set up by Tau Photography. Say "cheese and Spam!"

Yelp Goes Back To The Future

Dublin sure knows how to party! They showed the rest of the world how it's done at Yelp Dublin's first ever Open Party: Yelp Goes Back To The Future!

 

The good dwellers of Dublin ventured out to The Science Gallery to dance and mingle amongst rockets, the moon, Yelp's Ping Pong Social Club and eh a robot! DJ Brian Taffe was on the decks as everyone explored the various rooms.

In the Tasting Room Stephen from Trouble Brewing poured his brew for all the curious Yelpers to try. They also sampled Galway Hooker, spoilt for beer choice! Bajram from Vom Fass delighted everyone with the yummy tipples like blood orange vodka. John from Cooley Distillery Whiskey guided folks on a whiskey flight from Kilbeggan to Tyrconnell and more in between! There also was delicious red, white and rosé wines to indulge in from Barefoot Wine.

After all that drinking some sustenance was needed in the form of tasty bites from The Science Gallery Café like honey-and-mustard-doused cocktail sausages and cream-cheese-lathered smoked salmon. Better still you could go chill out with The elbowroom. Lisa and her team led the curious Yelpers through simple yoga moves and relaxation techniques.

In The Beauty Room, Tamar and her talented team from Lunatic Fringe tamed those tasered tresses! The style of some of the hair-dos was out of this world! Dairine from Clement & Pekoe teas stimulated the crowds taste buds with the diverse range of teas in their line. Tom from Winecourse.ie was on hand to explain to folks about what he does and he kindly gave out vouchers for up coming courses. Dublin Milkman Kieran also spread the good word about what he does and some of you lucky folk know already as you woke up this morning with a delivery - bread, milk and the Sunday paper in a fetching Yelp bag!

I just want to say thank you so much to all the businesses for being part of such an important night for Yelp, thank you for trusting me! Another big thank you must go to The Science Gallery for being so involved and wonderful during the whole process.

Lastly but definitely not least - thank you! My deepest thanks for coming out and giving me your time to tell you all about Yelp as I realise for some of you this was your first experience with anything related to Yelp! O-Town's Elite Have A Bohemian Bonanza!

The Orlando Elite squad knows how to go crazy, in a wonderful way of course! This month was all about a bonanza at Café Tu Tu Tango; A spot that gives thanks to local artists, great food and a sense of community.  Susan R noticed everyone went above and beyond: “the manager of Cafe Tu To Tango was so personable as well was the entire staff. They made sure they learned our names used them all night! That was such a great personable touch.”

As always, a HUGE thank you to our sponsors, Café Tu Tu Tango featuring various tapas and desserts along with 3 new feature cocktails including the Picasso Punch, Gentleman Jackson Pollock and the Michelangelo Mojito, Woodchuck Cider mixing some fuzzy woodys and Honest Tea delivering organic refreshments. We could not thank you enough for your gracious service and wonderful products. The music was great and the featured dancer was fabulous.  He showed off his skills and also turned some yelpers into dancing queens, and kings ;o) Paul L loved the  flavor of the evening recalling, “it was a delightful, festive atmosphere that pleasantly recalled our own Andalusian travels.  Such a nice diversion after a long day at work!”

The tapas would not stop coming and no one was complaining! So many delicious options to start that I think everyone forgot to save room for dessert.  However, that did not stop us from throwin’ down the sweets! We were surrounded by amazing people, gorgeous local art and delicious food… it was a night to remember!

Yelp STL Lets Loose at Brick House Tavern + Tap

Who knew you could have so much fun on a weeknight in the 'burbs? Actually, it's not a huge surprise since Yelp Elites can have fun just about anywhere... Especially when there's good food and even better service!

This past Wednesday, yelpers and their guests enjoyed a smorgasbord of food and drinks, compliments of Brick House Tavern + Tap, located in the Chesterfield Valley. Upon entering the restaurant, Elites were escorted out to the gorgeous outdoor patio (complete with fire pit) by the lovely Brick House Girls. Outside, platter after platter of yummy appetizers were served by the staff, including Zucchini Curls, Kobe beef sliders, Crab Cake Burgers, Bleu Cheese Chips, Deviled Eggs and Soft Pretzels with cheese. Seriously, we were all stuffed by the end! And who could forget the beer? If you wanted one, there was a Brick House lady ready to deliver a cold glass to your table!

Not to be outdoone, Party Booths was also there to commemorate the occasion with a pop up photo booth - and the pics were available immediately for our viewing pleasure. Everyone had fun piling up in the booth with their fellow yelpers (and sometimes the Brick House ladies) to strike a goofy pose. Take a look at all of the pics right here!

Near the end of the evening, Brick House did a raffle and three lucky party attendees received $25 gift cards to return on their own time. And sadly, the party was over at 9 pm, but Brick House sent everyone home with a to-go package, complete with a cupcake and beer glass. If you ask real nice, I bet they'd let you bring it back and drink out of it for old time's sake :)

The Yelp Indy Elites Ring in Fall in Fine Fashion at Chef JJ's Back Yard

'Twas the hottest Equinox on record in Indy... and it makes sense because the night with the Yelp Elite Squad at Chef JJ's Back Yard was on fire! Elites were treated to a very special evening with Chef JJ and Clay Robinson of Sun King Brewing teaming up to serve a full four course dinner of unique beer & food pairings.

 

After enjoying their first Sun King Cream Ale, Elites took their seats at the communal tables for the intimate and exclusive dining experience. The first course was more of that delicious and unique Cream Ale paired with a watermelon coleslaw. Second up was the Wee Mac Scottish Ale paired with a smoked butternut squash soup.

The third course of the evening was your classic American meat & potatoes dish done Chef JJ-style -- gorgonzola-stuffed potatoes along with slow-roasted carved steak, which paired perfectly with the Osiris Pale Ale.

A torched s'more dessert paired with the Sun King Hefe-weizen, which was a very special Elite treat as the Elites were among the first 50 people to ever taste the just-tapped Hefe-weizen!

 

Marcie M gives us the straight facts: "a perfect way to get out and enjoy a great Indianapolis company with locals who support locals."

Chef JJ created every course on the big green egg grill, and it sure must have made an impression with Elite Squad member MJ W -- because he couldn't go home without purchasing the floor model right then & there. Huzzah!

Yelp's Come As You Are Yelp Elite Event @ Eve Lounge

San Francisco yelpers didn't have to walk far for a bumpin' Yelp Elite event last night. Eve, nestled in outskirts of SOMA, was the perfect spot for a casual Yelp Elite happy hour. Eve (owned by the same folks who run John Collins) is a low-key, hip venue with suggestive artwork adorning the walls, complete with feathery chandeliers and sultry black and white class pin-ups, as well as fresh (and strong!) cocktails from our friends at Makers Mark. Being Cocktail week in San Francisco, Madmen concoctions like the Makers Mark Manhattan, the Makers Mark Old Fashioned, and the Makers Mark Mint Julep (amongst a slew of other delectable drinks) were all the rage (as the cool kids say).

To compliment the heavy-handed Makers Mark pours, artisanal charcuterie plates with locally-sourced cheeses, prosciutto, salami and olives made their way around the soiree to ensure everyone had a little something to nibble on as well. Dope beats from resident DJ Whooligan all night long added a swanky element to a rather unique happy setting.

Chicagoland Yelp Elites Go Grand!

Most people don't associate Tuesdays with chic affairs, but host restaurant Il Poggiolo changed all of that last night when Chicagoland Elites came together for an intimate cocktail party. Guests were led to a lofted area upstairs with mahogany-clad walls which were set aglow with muted red light fixtures (a Jerry Kleiner signature decor staple!). Speaking of Jerry, the celebrated local restaurateur made a surprise appearance at Yelp Gets Swanky to see how Yelp Elites do it up! 

Guests mingled while sipping on Owl House red and white wines. For those with palates more cocktail than vino, bold and beautiful bartendress Candice G poured some mean libations with Rain Organics Vodka. New flavors Red Grape Hibiscus and Lavender Lemonade caused quite the stir! 

All of that sophisticated socialization built up quite the appetite, and Elites were ready to enjoy a dazzling spread of artisan pizzas (Margherita, Taleggio with mushroom and truffle oil, and sausage with peppers). If that wasn't enough, four types of bruschetta were passed (beet, gorgonzola fig, cherry tomato and white bean) in addition to the super scrumptious arancini. Decadence at its best!

Bingo Gets Boozey at Redhook

The food and plonk was freely flowing on Tuesday as 60 excitable Elites took their seats to play a serious game – BOOZE BINGO. There was a lack of blue rinse and fishermans' knit on the menu this night, because James and his fabulous team at recently opened Redhook, spoilt London Elites rotten with pleasing rounds of fish and field fare matched perfectly with what seemed like endless glasses of wine from across the globe.

The night began with brief instructions and a sparkling aperitif. But who could guess where it came from? Luckily Damian G's taste buds were on top form and Argentina won him a whole bottle of the bubbles.

Not to be outdone by that, reds and whites were poured at the tables as the Elites sipped and slurred through all eight glasses as they tried to guess where each one came from.

"The wines were absolutely amazing – each of them with its own very special taste. The good people of Redhook definitely know their business! Kristina M would have loved to finish each and every single glass, but, alas, she had to restrain herself a little bit."

It was wonderful to see the carnivourous Helen E devour and sing praise of the mouthwatering morsels of meat that were served as the steak samples. Not to be out done by the saltfish dumplings or parma ham wrapped caper berries the dessert was a droolworthy chocolate concotion fresh from Redhooks kitchens which were demolished before you could say "five sexy stars."

 

The wine education continues and Ellie K has transformed from "a total non red wine drinker to someone who wants to talk about the flavours of strong red berries and under tones of tobacco." You're preaching to the choir Ellie! As always it was wonderful to see Elites old and new, bonding over great wine and fantastic food, as Craig M puts it so wonderfull, by the end of the night "our eyes were a little bleary and we'd made some Yelp friends for life!".

Yelp Elites Get the Funk Out!

Last night, upwards of 150 East Bay Yelp Elites sashayed over to Somar Bar and Lounge for a night of Art + Funk. Situated smack dab in the middle of the city, party-goers dabbled in heavy-handed Maker's Mark elixirs, noshed on piquant pizza slices, spruced up their wardrobe with fresh screen-printed wears from local outfit Forthrite Printing, and were caught rippin' and tearin' on the dance floor to the funky sounds of DJ Rigby Jean Shorts.

Somar's talented barkeep, kept elites properly punched with Maker's Mint Juleps, Old Fashioneds, Whiskey Sours, and even a secret concoction called The Walk of Shame. Troy M puts it best: "It wasn't until I was standing around discussing the mysterious origins of grenadine with Monica, while holding my sweet new Yelp shirt in one hand and a copper-encased Mint Julep in the other, that I realized this event was pretty great.  When I glanced up to see Ruggy dancing to the Lady Ga Ga he was bumping, I realized it was not just a great event--it was a stupid awesome event."

Competing with a 49ers Monday Night Football game is a tall order, but these glowing 5-star reviews prove that there was clearly only one place to party last night in the 510! Don't just read about it, peep the photos too!

Elites Bling Bling at the Jewel Of San Diego

Last Friday nearly 300 yelpers shined at “The Jewel” of San Diego. After a several year hiatus the Elite Squad returned to the majestic neighborhood of La Jolla to "Bling Bling" it up at Barfly. (Check them out on Facebook and Twitter ) New-to-the-scene, the spot was the perfect venue for dashingly dressed yelpers and kick off the weekend. With a red carpet entrance, chic décor, and a live band bumping tunes it was a class act on all cylinders.

While tray passed horderves made their way through the crowd guests elegantly sipped Bud Light and Skyy Vodka cocktails. Ice wasn’t just in the drinks either… a set of shades would have come in handy from all the bracelets, earrings, and necklaces in the house!

The night was capped by some sparkling raffle prizes including a night of VIP bottle service to Barfly and passes to the San Diego Asian Film Festival. What a way to end an event in such an amazing neighborhood!

Once, Twice, Three Times A Yelper

It's no secret that the men & women who make up the Yelp Chicago Elite Squad are a diverse crew with a myriad of interests. It's not often, though, that they get the chance to let the many facets of their personalities be seen all at once. Until now. 160 invited Elites made their way to Little Italy and expressed their can't-chain-'em-down personalities at Yelp is... SportyClassyCool at One. Six One and The Bar 10 Doors.

Sporty yelpers started the night off at The Bar 10 Doors. Being the sporty-type, this sort of yelper jumped at the chance to nosh on kobe beef sliders, chicken sliders, tots, and corn dogs. Eating that much good grub can make a sport-o thirsty. It's a good thing that Two Brothers Domain Dupage was flowing freely all evening. And, not that the company wasn't entertainment enough, but four flat screens of sports kept the crew up-to-date on the latest scores and highlights from around the league.

Classy yelpers couldn't be bothered with TV watching. Their was food to experience and cocktails to sip. Set in the main dining area of One. Six One, the classy set were welcomed with The 10 Door — the evening's signature drink. The vodka mixed effortlessly with the electric blue raspberry to make for the perfect refined beverage. But, classy isn't all vodka-sipping, couch-lounging and ambient music/lights feeling. Oh no. Classy folks eat classy food like samosa, arancini and shrimp gyoza. If it's hard to spell, it's good to eat. That's class.

The Cool kids began their evening outside on the patio. The late summer air made for the right time for hot chocolate with bourbon-soaked cherries and churros generously drizzled with a choco-chile sauce. Because cool kids always get their picture taken, it made sense to pair them with the coolest of the cool: ActionBooth. Cool kids jumped, posed, snacked, chatted, and (super) soaked up the night's air at the only spot hot enough to keep their cool.

And, then everyone mixed. Because whether an Elite is Sporty, Classy or Cool s/he is still an Elite and that means there's socializing to be done. Fortunately, supercool, class act and good sport photographer to the stars Laurence Asuncion was there to capture all of the excitement. You can see his photos here. Sunday, Sunny Sunday...

Well, we asked the question, and we got a definitive answer: there's nothing better than Sunday Funday...at least not when it takes place at the fantastic Franklin Park. With two full bars with a bangin' beer selection, games to play, and of course the beautiful beer garden, there isn't a better place to spend a Sunday afternoon.

For the first time in several months, there wasn't even the threat of rain at a Brooklyn Elite Event, and the weather couldn't have picked a better day to hold up as the best of NYC's yelpers gathered in beautiful Prospect Heights to mix, mingle, and say goodbye to the weekend.

Although it was International Talk Like a Pirate Day, we forewent the bottle of rum in favor of some quality local suds. With Sixpoint's recently released Crisp Lager line, Fire Island Beer's brand new Pumpkin Ale and Coney Island Lager on tap, there was no shortage of great beer.

 

But the sunny, warm afternoon just got better as the nearby Dutch Boy Burger put out a sumptous spread of all sorts of appetizing items. Pulled pork sliders, deviled eggs, cheese and fruit all hit the spot, but it was the sausage bread made by Chef Michelle that impressed everyone the most.



A huge thank you goes out to Matt and the Franklin Park staff for welcoming the Yelp Elite on such a gorgeous day. Whether or not you made it out, be sure to check out the pictures and the reviews!

Triangle Elites Partied Like It's 1989!

The Triangle Elite Squad Class of 1989 gathered for a 5-Star(ry) Nights-themed prom last Friday. Butt bows, "I love the Go Gos" buttons, leg warmers, side ponies, and rat tails were all the rage! And from Pretty in Pink to Beetlejuice, from goth to casual, the 80s were well represented! As Erin W yelped, "If you can't have fun with a bunch of yelpers doing 'the cabbage patch' dressed in 80s regalia, then you need to check yourself 'fore you wriggity-wreck yo'self! This event was RAD to the MAX. I almost took off a star because I wish it lasted a bit longer!" Aw, we loved hanging out – and acting like 80s fools – with you too!

 

Yelpers arrived in the beautiful from-the-future modern lobby at Cambria Suites where the gals were greeted with a long-stemmed red rose and everyone took a Prom King & Queen ballot. Do-good yelpers donated to our non-profit partner, the Southeast German Shepherd Rescue, for a chance to enter our raffle; they raised $75 for the cause! Of course, photo ops abounded for couples at both the formal portrait corner and with All-Points Transportation, who provided chauffeured rides from the pre-prom dinner to the party!

Cambria treated everyone to yummy buffalo chicken tenders, fruit and cheese, and spinach dip. And Rain Vodka spiked our punch perfectly! Some yelpers enjoyed discounted hotel rooms – and free breakfast – with their dates. And everyone enjoyed Island Sound DJs who provided an amazing mix of songs that got folks on their feet. Frankie even emceed an impromptu prom court line-up to help everyone determine their votes for king and queen. Congrats to Nikki K and Ron W who took the crowns and reigned on high!

Portland Elites Get Made: La Famiglia Yelpa @ A Cena

Rain clouds in mid-september? Fuggedaboudit! The Portland Yelp Elite braved some of the more miserable weather of our glorious non-summer to come out and heat it up at A Cena in Sellwood for a night filled with incredible Italian comfort food, amazing drinks, and good times with good friends. We got oobatz, what can we say? 

   

On a monsoon-like Saturday, September 18th, at around 3pm (that's happy hour in Italy), the doors to Sellwood's favorite neighborhood Italian joint, A Cena, swung wide open and welcomed the Yelp Elite in like made men and women. All dressed-to-impress in their "family" (Godfather? Sopranos? Jersey Shore? Whateva!) gear, P-town's finest were ready to party. With New Deal No. 3 Gin negronis and martinis flowing like water, it didn't take long for Stanley T to crack that familiar fedora-bedecked smile. Add in a frosty Ninkasi Total Domination IPA and a glass of Firesteed wine, and let's just say that Kristina K and Ron T were quite ready to party. And of course, nobody went even the slightest bit thirsty.

Not to be outdone by our friends in the beverage business, A Cena took this unique opportunity to bring their A+ game and blow Suzanne F and Connie C away with gourmet bites such as arancini, fresh, still-hot, just-made mozzarella, boar meatballs in ragout, fried artichokes, pizza margherita with cherry tomatoes, individual chocolate mousse dolci and foie gras crostini topped with a dark cherry. Add in some amazing house-made focaccia dipped in gourmet olive oil, aged Balsamic vinegar, and truffle and flower sea salts provided by Ritrovo Foods, and, well, let's just say that the food bar at Portland Elite Events has been raised yet again.

Of course, it wouldn't be an Elite Event if yelpers didn't walk away with some great prizes. Beyond the bags of hand-made pasta that A Cena passed out to a lucky set of Elites, prize winners left with amazing steals such as the art piece titled: "Yelp, Made With Bits Of Real Panther," an authentic Shake Weight, a pair of Booty Pop, and the fancy "Dogs and Windmills" tote bag. Oh, and of course, Jenny C snuck off with the grand prize, a $50 gift certificate to A Cena!

With quenched thirst and sated hunger, the Portland Yelp Elite merrily made their way back out into the rainy Saturday, owing a 5-star bit of thanks to: Chris, Gabriel, Shannon, Mel, Michael K and all of the great folks at A Cena; Morgan and Marty from Ninkasi Brewing in Eugene; Tom and Sarah from New Deal Distillery in Portland; the fine folks from Firesteed wines; Catie from Retrovo Italian Regional Foods; Tiffany C (the best door-person a guy could ask for) and Hilary B (photographer extraordinaire); and of course, my true famiglia, the Portland Yelp Elite Squad. Grazie mille!

Yelp Causes A Sensation!!

On Wednesday night at the Crescent Club, almost 400 yelpers gathered for Sacramento Yelp's first ever Open Party, Yelp Causes a Sensation! And what a sensation it was! So good that some were questioning whether or not it was actually real. Sheryce S pontificates with a brief summary of things:

"When I woke up this morning I was pretty sure last night's event [of the year] was all a dream ...  but it wasn't a dream people. It's yelp at it's finest. And if you are not on board you better get there, because only YELP can make all your dreams come true!"

 

 
Just what is she talking about? Well, for starters don't take our word for it. The party was covered by KCRA, hitting the 10 and 11 p.m. news spots the same night! It was also gushed about by Paul Dale Roberts in a Sacramento Press article — and of course by yelpers — in the form of 40-plus five star reviews!! Read and write 'em here!

Let's start with the cuisine of the evening. Irristible mini cupcakes by Icing on the Cupcake, devine chocolates by Kobasic's Candies, scrumptious paté and more by Taylor's Kitchen, caviar and sturgeon by Café Americain, empanadas by Empanadas 'n' Buns and nibbles from Gyros 2 Go.

Lucid was the word to describe the liquid refreshments that flowed from two bars. Charbay Distillery poured their luxurious 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon and out of this world lemonade green tea (and other) cocktails while Lost Coast Brewery provided a double rainbow of beer selections including Downtown James Brown and Tangerine Wheat.

  
In between sipping and nibbling their hearts out, yelpers had their hands full trying out a maze of activities and entertainment including flavor tripping with miracle berries by mBerry and a blindfolded trip through the "Tickle Your Senses Tunnel" sponsored by Kiss 'n' Tell where folks ate spicy chocolates, got tickled with feathers, and were presented with lingering aromas from East Sac Florist. Hey, they didn't stop there. Guests also fell in love with Fab Faces Face Painting, glamhawks/glamlocks by Spanish Fly Hair Garage at the Head Fluffing Station and a hot performance on the whimsical courtyard by Counter Balance fire performances.

Astrologer Chris read people's pasts and futures and all of this was punctuated by the infectious beats by DJ Evolve (Jon Marino) and Sacramento's Lipstick's lead man, Shaun Slaughter. Some of us danced anywhere we could find space while others preferred dancing in the shadow box, desinged and built by Yelp and Elite yelpers Katee R and "Dandyman" Darren M.

Special thanks go to the volunteers who came early, sliced, diced and manned all that needed manning or wo-manning. Everett L, Corrine M, Joe K, Ida H, Sue Ann D and her plus one, Sharee D, Katie B, Buster P, Mike H, Jefferson L, Paul J, David O, Katee R, Tiffany K, Stephanie L, Brad H, Gena S, Jackie F and Laurel W, you have our heart. Last but not least, hugs to Debbie P and Darren M, our wonder couple. The night would have been only a dream if it were not for all of you. Yelp Paris Elite Spice Things Up @ Bleu Noir Tattoo Artshop

Qui veut la peau de nos Yelpeurs? Seulement pour un tatouage bien entendu... ! Hier, le 16 septembre, au 25 rue Durantin, Bleu Noir Tattoo Artshop a vu débarquer la Brigade d’Elite Yelp Paris, curieuse d’assister à la performance live de Jeykill et Veenom, tatoueurs géniaux de ce salon du 18ème. Plus de 70 de nos yelpeurs parisiens on été guidés à travers l’univers original de la galerie, entre t-shirts customisés, dessins tribaux et toiles de Pin Up géantes ! 

Alors que Jeykill s’installe pour le tatouage, la bière coule à flot autour des derniers récits de vacances et de rentrée. C’est le 4ème évènement Elite, et les yelpeurs commencent à bien se connaître. David A raconte :“ les liens s'affinent, les rencontres se font plus nombreuses, on retrouve des amis et on s'en fait des nouveaux ! “

 

 
Rapidement, le show commence: Jeykill se lance dans un tattoo sur l’avant bras d’un habitué de la galerie, Jean Sébastien. Fascinés par le travail de l’artiste, notre Brigade d’Elite a d’abord pu observer la précision et la maîtrise du dessin avant d’en discuter autour d’une bière Grolsch. Christine G a immortalisé le moment en photos, tout en discutant avec “ le “patient” de son inspiration pour le tatouage.  “Une belle idée d'animation ! ”, s’enthousiasme notre yelpeuse.

 

 

Les invités ne se sont pas fait prier non plus pour déguster samosas épicés de Bombay Palace et cupcakes bleus au style rétro: les premiers, végétariens ou à l’émincé de boeuf, se présentaient comme dips alors que les seconds, au sésame noir, à la pâte de haricot rouge et au citron vert, se sont fait engloutir en deux bouchées. De petits plaisirs que n’a pas su refuser Lindsey R, qui a “englouti une quantité inavouable de cupcakes et de samosas..."

Yelp Paris wants a piece of its elite squad’s skin! Just for an evening of tattoo fun, of course!
 
Last night the Yelp Paris Elite Squad headed up to Bleu Noir Tattoo Artshop, a brightly colored tattoo gallery and studio in the heart of Montmartre owned by the up-and-coming tattoo team, Jeykill and Veenom.

 
The seventy guests were welcomed into Bleu Noir’s unique universe of giant pin-ups, customized silk-screened tees and tribal wall drawings. While Jeykill set the stage for the live tattoo performance that was about to begin, the cool Grolsch beer and conversation bubbled forth. 

The fourth Paris elite event since the site’s launch, guests were happy to catch up after the long summer pause. “The ties are strengthening, the encounters are multiplying, we’re seeing friends again and making new ones,” says David A, of the bonds that are building within the community in Paris.

 

Then, all of a sudden, the needles began buzzing as Jeykill started inking the forearm of a Bleu Noir habitué, Jean Sebastian. Christine G talked with the “patient” about the memories and dreams that inspired his tattoo design, and found the whole experience to be a “fabulous idea for a happening.”

In between watching the artists at work, the crowd enjoyed some spicy vegetarian and meat samosas from Bombay Palace followed by retro colored cupcakes from the delicious catering company, Pin-Up Butter. The creative cupcake flavor combos of vanilla and citrus and red bean and sesame won the heart of the crowd, especially Lindsey R, who admittedly “ate an embarrassing amount of cupcakes.”

No Siestas At This Elite Phoenix Fiesta!

Last night, nearly 150 Phoenix yelp elites broke out the sombreros and maracas for a muy caliente fiesta at Blanco in Scottsdale, Arizona. Mixing and mingling was in order while vet and newbie elites alike enjoyed an evening full of food, booze and fun.

     

Blanco's fine staff kept guests full of tasty and generously portioned signature items, including carnita street tacos, assorted cheese crisps, short rib enchiladas, chopped salad, guacamole and salsa. And for those with a sweet tooth, staff passed around creamy Carmel flan to top off the night! 

All this food made these yelpin’ señoritas and señors thirsty, so luckily Blanco knew how to quench their thirst with skinny and house margaritas, Dos Equis and tequila tastings from Clase Azul.

In between bites, yelpers revealed their giant jenga skills and inner model at the photo booth from Snap Booth Entertainment – all while a DJ kept the music fresh! Before saying adios, two lucky yelpers walked away with gift certificates for a future visit to Blanco and every yelper left with a "buy one entree, get one entree free" voucher for their next Blanco visit.

Yelp Flies High at House of Air

The House of Air is easily the most buzzed about new hot spot in San Francisco, and on Tuesday night, Yelpers were among the first in the entire city to experience the magic one day prior to opening to the general public. HOA boasts upwards of 70 conjoined trampolines, including a trampoline bowl, a trampoline dodgeball/basketball court, training grounds for top gymnasts, board sport specialists, and professional athletes, as well as bouncy castles for the kiddies, and aerobics classes for those looking to shed a few pounds in the most enjoyable way possible.

Big ups to Dave and Paul from House of Air for letting us invade the space for a few hours, and thanks to IZZE and Kara's Cupcakes for supplying some tasty morsels in between jumps!

Las Vegas Elites Jump For Joy!

On Monday, Las Vegas Elite yelpers jumped and "pleyed" their way through the night at Sky Zone. The bouncing was aided by wall-to-wall trampolines. (Tigger and the spoiled kid down the street ain't got nothing on this.)

 

In addition to jumping for joy, Sky Zone hosted the first ever Las Vegas Elite dodgeball tournament. Shout out to the victors Balls in the Face! And props to the other fine competitors: 2nd Place, The Ballsmashers; 3rd Place, Ninja Assasins, and 4th Place The Beaters. For the more cautious gamers, there were a variety of complimentary arcade games as well as everyone's favorite board game throwbacks like Jenga, Trouble, and Uno.  Still not satisfied? Yelpers made origami fortune tellers, posed with some stylish hats, and got inked with Yelp tattoos.

As for food and treats, Elites noshed on nibbles including tasty grilled cheese, PB&J sammies, popchips, mini cheeseburgers, cotton candy, brownies, and more! And since dodging and drinkin' don't mix, mocktails were the beverage of choice: "Champagne" (aka sparkling cider), "Beer" (aka root and ginger beer), and "Gin" and Juice (aka juice boxes).

Miriam C sums it up yelpily: "Overall, the Sky Zone experience is something I will always remember for the rest of my life. No matter how old you are, there is never a cut-off to show the inner child in you. I actually hoped that we would win the Sky Zone Birthday Package!"

Yelpin' La Vida Local at Cafe Cocomo

Cafe Cocomo, nestled in the Dogpatch area, came alive with the warm San Francisco sun, and the buzz of excited locally consicous yelpers this past Sunday at Yelpin' La Vida Local. Yelpers descended upon the unique space, which boasts a plethora of free parking, a lovely outdoor patio,  and a massive dance floor -  to learn about more ways they could support amazing local non-profits and how to get more involved in their local community. Attendees were able learn about a slew of outstanding local resources, all while enjoying exceptional performances by talented artists and performers, and while sipping on phenomenal wine and nibbling on incredible local bites.

   

Guests wandered around Cafe Cocomo's lush green outdoor area, and were able to sample an exquisite array of fine wines from Sonoma Valley Portworks,  Barber Cellars, Starlite Vineyards, and Flora Springs Winery.  To complement the variety of wines, were a plethora of swoon-worthy desserts.  The Cookie Department had an impressive variety of addictive innovative cookies. That Takes the Cake was a massive hit with their moist mind-blowing cupcakes - they even had a massive Yelp cupcake!. PieTisserie's  darling pie booth was swamped with sugar fiends, axiously waiting for bites of their fruity heavenly pies. Kika's Treats  - comprised of chocolate-covered caramelized graham crakers, paired beautifully beside Sonoma Valley Portworks fabulous dessert wines, while Smitten Ice-cream churned out cold fresh deliciousness to a mesmerized crowd - from their unique Radio Flyer ice-cream wagon. To counteract the never-ending supply of decadent sweets, many yelpers made sure to fill up their cups with healthy refreshing House Kombucha on tap.  

    

    

     

While exploring the variety of exciting desserts and wines outside on Cafe Cocomo's patio, yelpers were able to learn about how bread can help build community through Danny of Sour Flour, they learned how to make art from organic materials at The Farmer's Block, they learned how to stay on top of the thriving local urban art scene through 1AM Gallery, they learned how to stay connected to the local music scene through Seaweed Sway, and they learned how to be exposed to a wealth of talented comedians and local musicians through amazing Snob Theater. While perusing these outstanding local resources, guests were serenaded by Snob Theater's dazzling line-up of acoustic performances by the lovely lady trio of Waste Band, the soulful crooning of Benjamin Anderson, and a fun upbeat musical comedy number by Andrew Moore.

   

The warm good energy that flowed around Cafe Cocomo's sun kissed patio traveled inside Cafe Cocomo's massive interior just as freely. Guests were greeted by an interactive video Robo.to, set-up, while they sampled a diverse number of natural affordable skin-care product samples from the glowing enthusiastic staff at Yes to Carrots.  The lovely Cressie Mae - showcased her impressive hula-hooping skills - while armed with a number of her own hand-made collapsable hoops for guests to rock. Blue Sparrow Pilates represented at an informational booth - where attendees could learn more about the the stirring dance performances by the Blue Sparrow Pilates Dance Group donning costumes by the fiber artist Bo Choi, and the energetic  - space-inspired dance numbers by MGM Grand.

    

It was the inspiring presence of exceptional non-profits lining Cafe Cocomo's far wall corner and along Cafe Cocomo's upper floor level that truly filled the space up with love and positive vibes. San Francisco is blessed to have such a wide spectrum of  wonderful non-profit organizations, which really seek to create change and improve upon the world around us.  It was great to hear first-hand how these organizations work and what they seek to accomplish in our community.

    

 

    

Attendees learned how they can help rescue and foster dogs through Wonder Dog. They learned how  Curry Without Worry fills hungry bellies up on a daily basis - with curry and love. Larkin Street Youth had a vast amount of information on how they help vulnerable youth move beyond the streets, while City Youth Now talked about how they diligently work behind the scenes to address the unique needs of children and youth under the jurisdiction of the SF Juvenile Court System. Spark discussed how they provide life-changing apprenticeships to youth in under-served communities (they even had delicious cupcakes on hand), while the Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center informed attendees on their ongoing quest to strategically direct a significant concentration of resources to families in distressed and under-served populations in the Sunset. Project Open Hand shared how they have been providing "meals with love" to people with living with serious illnesses in the Bay Area, while Shanti elaborated on their efforts to provide emotional and practical support to people living with life-threatening illness. Engineers without Borders relayed to attendees, how they help address people's basic human needs across the globe, by providing necessities such as clean water, power, sanitation, and education; while Friends of the Urban Forest spoke about how they make the world a greener place by promoting community planting, maintenance, education and advocacy.  ZSpace Theater promoted their quest to fuel the development of American theater by nurturing new voices, new works and new opportunities in the SF Bay Area, while CounterPULSE - a theater and production space in San Francisco, demonstrated how they help support local artists and activists through their innovative programs. Old Skool Cafe - brought mini sweet-potato pies and coffee for attendees to indulge in -  from their non-profit which houses an inspiring youth run supper-club, while City Guides helped spread the word about their free informational and fun tours of the city.  La Casa de las Madres provided invaluable information about how they offer a comprehensive continuum of support for victims of domestic abuse, while The Arc presented about how they offer primary resources for people with disabilities.  EarthShare also represented, by explaning how they connect people to environmental non-profits through workplace giving, volunteer opportunities, and environmental education. It was definitely a full house of exceptional individuals and organizations.

    

On hand - on the upper level of Cafe Cocomo - surrounding the diversity of non-profits - was Fog Harbor Fish House serving fresh divine crab cerviche and a tuna appetizer, and Don Pilar pouring samples of their smooth tequila. Both were huge hits, with attendees, who  waited anxiously to get their photo taken in Orange Photography's fun and interactive photo-booth. 

    

And of course - who could forget the talented group of individuals who DJed, sang, played, and performed their hearts out - on Cafe Cocomo's main stage on Sunday. DJ William Wardlaw, who always brings it - at Yelp events,  and Roy Two Thousand,  got the crowd going with a five star guitar and DJ collaboration. Maiden Lane  - comprised of the musical collaboration of the son of  Phil Lesh, bass player of the Grateful Dead, and the former lead singer of country group "The Jenkins," dazzled attendees with a truly rock out energetic and soulful performance. El Radio Fantastique closed the event - with a musical production that utilized an applaudable array of instruments and sounds. Singer Giovanni DiMorente commanded the stage with his wistful melodies - backed up by a profoundly talented band of performers - that obviously love what they do. The music throughout the event was definitely what's up. Truly. 

    

What better way to spend a gorgeous Sunday - than with wonderful people, inspiring organizations, talented performers, delicious food, and superb wine?!

Boston Yelpers Stamp Their Passport to The South End

How cool was Monday night? Villa Victoria Center for the Arts became flooded with beautiful people, anxious to find what treasured businesses of the South End had in store. Scrumptious vittles from the Union Bar & Grille, Rudi's Resto Cafe (Home of the Flying Rib!), Metropolis, J.J. Foley's, Aquitane, Franklin Cafe and BCAE fed the masses, who braved a light shower to attend the blowout. Bryan R posted up with Gaslight early, falling for the malted bourbon vanilla milkshakes he deemed "dangerous."

 

The fine folks at Maker's Mark, Westport Rivers Winery, Wachusett Brewing and IZZE kept the whistles whet from the floor, while Kevin and friends shook, rattled and rolled craft cocktails from Rain Organic Vodka and Firefly. Turner Fisheries delivered a one-two punch with crustaceous concoctions, both boozy and brimming with seafood! Partake to the max? Yelpers can recover with Code Blue and sweat it out, thanks to Equinox and Revolution Fitness. Don't forget to ink those rippling biceps with temp tats from Second Glass!

Speaking of sweat! The lovely ladies from Babes in Boinkland dampened quite a few brows with their tantalizing burlesque, while KC Hallet deejayed and Cincoson (courtesy of The Beehive) jammed to glistening crowds on the dance floor.

Vancouverites Prove It's Okay, Wearing White After Labour Day

So what if it was raining and pouring in Vancouver this weekend. At Mis Trucos, "the rain did not just go away, it felt like the sun was shining bright, and the heat was on" and elites, all dressed in white, were whooping it up said Simon K.  Pitcher after pitcher of white and red sangria poured while Red Truck filled pint after lager pint.

"Crispy bread wrapped prawn with the garlic aioli and polenta fries with cheese fondue topping tasted sooooo good!" Vincci L "also found out that it's now on the menu!" DJ for the day, and owner, Kris, kept the music coming while yelpers enjoyed more afternoon snacks -- a tapas bar and all!

Yelpers revealed their true artistic side, doodling on the communal canvas. Meanwhile a competition ensured everyone learned something colourful about their fella party goers [underwear]. The least dressed yelpers (who went commando) were awarded brand spanking new Yelp knickers and the best dressed took home Post Secret signed coffee table books!

Silicon Valley Swashbucklers Traverse Through Palo Alto!

Ahoy, Mateys! This past Thursday, with around 300 yelping swashbucklers barhopping in downtown Palo Alto, you'd think it was national Talk Like a Pirate Day. But nope, it was just another trip down memory plank to a rambunctious Silicon Valley Yelp Elite Event. Yelpers hopped between Mantra, Rudy's Pub and B412 throughout the evening searching for treasure and boozin' it up! 

Adding booty to the mix, Bling Nation hooked yelpers with free mobile money! Getting freebies at elite events is a given, getting paid while at the event, now that's a bonus! Bling hooked yelpers up with $20 BlingBucks on their mobile Bling tags ($40 if they synced up with their PayPal account). It was just what the pirates, sailors, and other surly seamen (and seawomen) needed to pillage the town. As they ship-hopped between bars, Silicon Valley yelpers didn't just stop with the obligatory grog, they scavenged throughout each venue searching for the real buried treasure – a chest filled with $100! 

At the last port, there was a costume contest for best dressed pirates, where yelpers helped select the two winners to win the $100 BlingBucks prizes. Pretty pirate Thao N took one of the blingin' treasure chests home, and the wickedest wench of them all was Julia H!

Charlotte Elites Send Off Summer In Style

Sunday, September 12 marked a fabulous day for Yelp Elites in the Queen City - Charlotte's very first official Yelp Elite event at Customshop Handcrafted Food!

  

From 6-8pm, guests savored the local love from finely crafted bites from Customshop and an array of beer Olde Mecklenburg Brewery. To top it all off, Palm Bay International provided two exquisite vinos to suite the yelpers palates: Planeta Segreta Roso & Bianco!

Brett Milstead from Thirsty Horses entertained guests with his smooth acoustic covers while they mingled!

Local farmers also enjoyed the bites and libations and chatted with guests about their amazing fare that was sampled that day! Eats such as Pork Belly Flatbread, Scallop Ceviche, Golden Oyster Mushroom Crostini, Mini Crab Crakes and Bite Size Carrot Cakes were flowing freely throughout the gorgeous space and onto the chic patio. It's no doubt why Customshop chef & owner, Trey Wilson, won a James Beard Award - the food was out of this world!

 

The Yelp Elite Squad made sure to snag their fab Yelp lunch boxes before anyone else could get their hands on the hot gift. As this was Charlotte's first Elite Event, the Elite Squad was just tickled to get together in person! Elite Julia S put it well, not only did she meet "the coolest mushroom farmer ever," but: "I got to see my Yelpbuds, and make some new ones. And it was totally awesome." 100 Triangle Yelpers and the One and Only Flavor Flav

This past weekend marked the Triangle's first annual Hopscotch music festival: 3 nights, 10 venues, 120 bands -- and 1 very yelpy VIP party for Elites and special guests!

On Saturday night from 6 til 10pm, 100 Triangle yelpers gathered for our biggest bash yet, Yelp pleY(s) at Hopscotch. Elites took over the downtown Sheraton's Governors Room and two balconies overlooking City Plaza's main stage. We kept high and dry in our lofty perch looking down on the crowd in the rain below!

Thanks to our incredibly generous sponsor, vitaminwater, everyone enjoyed snazzy champagne spritzers mixed with a variety of vitaminwater flavors and topped with blueberries, plus pizza from Lilly's! And Hopscotch provided a keg of Newcastle to help wash down those sumptuous slices.

The scene was set with a variety of games, Almost Famous projected on the wall and a Twister photobooth with rock & roll props!

But of course the biggest draw of the evening was seeing and hearing the three headlining acts -- No Age, Love Language and Public Enemy -- rock out on stage for free! Yelpers packed our two balconies for a view and a few of our Yelp beach balls even made it down into the melee below where they were batted around all night...

 

Many yelpers submitted a vote to help the locally founded National Inclusion nonprofit compete for winnings in the Pepsi Refresh Project. If you didn't vote, do it now at this link -- it's free and you'll feel like a better person for helping -- guaranteed! National Inclusion works to bridge the gap that exists between young people with disabilities and the world around them. Lucky raffle winner John H scored two VIP tickets valued at $2000 to the nonprofit's Champions Gala where American Idol star Clay Aiken will perform live!

It was such a treat to share this amazing night -- and long-awaited local festival -- with all of you! Luckily there's another Elite Event right around the corner this Friday so it won't be long before I see you again...

NYC Elite Euro-Trip to Belcourt!

Summer may be winding down in the Big Apple but the party is only just getting started! Since Labor Day left most of us Americana'd out, the Manhattan Yelp Elites took a much needed Euro tour courtesy of the friendly folks at Belcourt in the East Village. Offering a simple and novel take on French bistro cuisine, Belcourt served up sensous samples of grilled octopus with cilantro-jalapeño sauce, spicy BBQ pork cheeks over polenta, Rock Shrimp fritters, chicken liver paté crostinis, seasoned frites, sangria jello shots and sweet corn soup.

After grabbing a goodie bags stuffed with housemade hot sauce, ganache, Yelp sweatbands and discounted dining galore another event awaited. The kind folks at Nomad served stray yelpers complimentary North African desserts, tea and sangria al fresco for the official after-party!

The following lucky raffle winners snagged prizes ranging from $50 dinner certificates to Belcourt to exclusive tickets to the 2010 Vendy Awards on September 25th: Iris Yen, Charles Lai, Rebecca Altrien, Jenn Butler, Andrew M, Kristen McBride. Yelp LA Gives Back

While Elite parties are usually filled with boozy goodness, Yelp LA Elites decided to put the hangover on hold to partner with local nonprofit L.A. Works to beautify a 'hood.

                             

The philanthropic posse donned overalls (oh wait, that was just me!) in Cypress Park (and drank Antigua coffee) and was immediately put to work painting a bridge over the 110 with bright colors. Three hours later, you would never know that this was once covered in graffiti! See for yourself!

                            

And after? Well, there was a party, naturally. The Verdugo patio provided the perfect rest stop to sample Crispin Cider and Fox Barrel, grub down on Masa of Echo Park's deep dish pizza, swallow Sweet Dreamery mini cupcakes whole and hang with the cool cats of Camarena tacos. Although the group was pretty wiped out from a hard day's work, board games and good times were had as the DJ spun some Jamaican jams for everyone to enjoy.
