BYOPeep Yelp Elite Event @ Butter

There are undoubtedly some upset employers around San Francisco today, as Elites paid no attention the the time stamp of a Sunday night Elite Event at one of the city's foremost locations for utter debauchery and chaos, Butter! Being that it's Easter Peep season, the ticket to ride this party train was a package of marshmallow-y confections that resemble small chickens, in an attempt to set the Universal Records Database record of the World's largest pile of Peeps! We'll let you know if we do, indeed, set the record. Wish us luck!

Karaoke peep 1 Karaoke peep 2 Karaoke peep 3

Butter was kind enough to pass around some of their delectable microwaved/deep fried treats like ding dongs, tater tots crispy out of the fryer, and miniature bites of mac 'n' cheese! Needless to say, it was an epicurean's dream come true. Of course, like every Elite event, we were lucky enough to have complimentary sips from Maker's Mark whiskey, and they were even cool enough to let everyone walk away with a nifty rocks glass dipped in real wax!

L (3) Food 1 Food 2

While denizens ate food prepared in a double-wide (no joke) and got their drink on, KJ de jour Roger Niner kept the crowd entertained with his zany and fabulous blend of irreverent karaoke!

Silicon Valley Elites Have a Saturday Fun Day at LB Steak!

Posted by Connie Chang

Spring was definitely in the air this past Saturday as Yelp Elites spent a beautiful afternoon at the sophisticated and stylish steakhouse LB Steak at Santana Row. The elegant and open space was perfect for guests to mingle while enjoying Cabana Cachaca mojitos, Iron Horse Chardonnay, Cypress Cabernet Sauvignon and Pol Clement Brut Sparkling Wine.

Large glass doors allowed guests to peer into the large kitchen and watch chefs at work. LB Steak provided delectable bites including beef tater tots, seared filet with truffled aioli, pork belly with leek pancakes, crab and potato brandade, and spring garlic and brie bouchee.

To satisfy sweet tooths, Willet's Mini Creations provided delightful samples of Craveez, a marriage of cake and frosting, spun into a ball, and dipped in chocolaty coating! If you're craving for more or missed out on these scrumptious desserts, be sure to stop by Pink Stripes at Santana Row and at Willet's booth at the Santana Row Farmers' Market starting May 2nd.

Chicago Yelp Elites Shake Their Yelpmakers

Posted by Johnny Todd

After a long, cold winter, there was only one thing that Chicago Elites wanted to do: dance! So, it's a very good thing that the gracious hosts at Latin Rhythms Dance Studio invited close to 250 excited Chicago Yelp Elites and their guests to Shake Their Yelpmakers. And how does one shake a yelpmaker? We're so glad you asked!

To begin with, you start by arriving to a fantastic dance space in the West Loop, complete with brick walls, room to move, hard wood floors and high ceilings. Secondly, you have brilliant salsa dance instruction from LRDS' man with the golden feet: Victor. Thirdly, you bolster your resolve to become one with the rhythm by sipping glass after glass of the tastiest sangria in Chicago — courtesy of the folks from 1492 Tapas Bar. Finally, you step out on the dance floor with confidence and a full belly thanks to the bountiful Brazilian food from Sinha Elegant Cuisine.

In no time, our yelpers were movin' and groovin', dancin' to the music. For nearly two hours, the dance floor was theirs to show off moves both old and new but, most importantly, to just have fun. The bouncin' latin, hip-hop and club beats by DJ Rey Suarez kept everyone shakin' yelpmakers and what their mamas gave them all night long.

Luckily, super photog Melissa Hayes was able to document all the booty shakin', toasting and grateful noshing. See her action shots here. And, if you need to read all about it (and, we think you do), just click here. Nothing says 'Thank goodness it's Springtime' like some hot dancing, cool drinks and delicious food. Nothing says 'U Can't Touch This' like the smoking hot danseurs of the Yelp Chicago Elite Squad.

Until next time, SYOY!

Boston Elites are Down to Ride with Urban AdvenTours

Twenty-five degree weather in the last week of March is no match for a group of eager Elites on a bright but super-cold Saturday morning in the land of Yelp Boston! Despite the pre-Spring chill, Elites gathered to meet the folks at Urban AdvenTours, a local, eco-friendly bike touring company that specializes in city-wide tours and rentals.

DSCN2339 DSCN2340 DSCN2341
Bundled up and ready to ride, our tour guides, Chris, Baylor & Garrett lead the way, beginning with the historic North End. After stopping at the highest point in the neighborhood, we discovered the once-yearly mission of the USS Constitution and continued on to the learn the significance and history behind the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge, The TD Garden and even (dare we say it) The Big Dig. Our ride then took us to Beacon Hill, passing by The State House (which houses a fish or two), through Louisburg Square (Oh hey, John Kerry!) and over to The Charles River, where we were exposed to the irony of Storrow Drive.

DSCN2348 DSCN2356 DSCN2358
Pedaling down The Esplanade, wind in our face and nothing but blue sky above, we were lead to Boston University and then Fenway Park to crunch some numbers. Did you know that of the 2.7 million people in our city, 300,000 of them are college students? Or that Fenway Park seats 37,500 and sells 8,000 hot dogs at every game? After digesting those digits, we set down Park Drive and though the Back Bay Fens, stopping briefly to debrief on the largest art heist in American history, which took place at The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum!

DSCN2361 DSCN2363 DSCN2367
Next stop? The Christian Science Center, not be confused with The Church of Scientology, modeled painstakingly after the great basilicas of Italy. After looping down into the South End, we headed toward Copley Square, one of the only actual 'squares' in the city, with a slowly sinking church and history of falling glass from the Hancock Building. But what ride would be complete without passing through Boston Common, a certified piece of publicly owned land for public use, including grazing animals. Our tour concluded with a brief visit to the birth site of Benjamin Franklin and a stop at the very edge of Long Wharf!

DSCN2373 DSCN2377 DSCN2386
From Boston-born folks to Jersey transplants and Somerville locals of 10-plus years, we all can say we learned some amazing local facts on this tour. The ones we mentioned above are just the tip of the iceberg, so be sure to visit Urban AdvenTours for the full experience! A big thanks to our architecture-loving, smart-biking, super-friendly tour guides and all the people at Urban AdvenTours who made this morning possible! If you had a great time,  be sure to add your thoughts here and check out the photos here!

See, you learn something new every day. Or in this case, quite a few things!

St. Louis Wines and Unwinds with Yelp!

Posted by Abby Schwarz

By the time March hits St. Louis, we are sick and tired of cold, gray weather! It has us down in the dumps and stressed out for sure. So it only seemed appropriate to entertain St. Louis yelpers with wine, food, and massages

Wine and Unwind with Yelp was held on Wednesday, March 24 at Robust Wine Bar & Cafe in Webster Groves, a suburb of St. Louis. Elites sampled a variety of wine while the staff explained their signature "Robust Factor" philsophy. While learning about the art of wine and visiting with each other, Elites nibbled on cheese and crackers, chicken satay, crab cakes, hummus, and flatbread pizzas. If that wasn't enough, Indigo Massage & Wellness came by to do 5-minute chair massages for everyone. And a brand spankin' new shop in the neighborhood, Very Best Cookies, provided trays of baked goods for everyone to enjoy.

IMG_2331 wm IMG_2332 wm IMG_2335 wm

By the end of the evening, yelpers left well-fed, relaxed, and perhaps a little buzzed. Still not sure what to think? Read the glowing reviews from one of the 70 guests in attendance. Julia W gushes: "Hmmm, let me see...  Free wine, massages, cookies, snackies AND good company?" And Erika M is already trying to make up excuses to go back: "What more can a girl ask for in the middle of a hectic week? Now we just need to figure out how to justify this as a daily event!" It only gets better from here, Erika!

Already looking forward to our next STL Elite Event! So until then, SYOY!

Denver Elites Go All Open-Mic Style

Posted by Laura Levaas

Welcome to spring, D-town! You know that means we'll get a crazy snowstorm sandwiched between beautiful sunny days. So even though it snowed almost a foot Tuesday night, a dedicated crew of Denver elites gathered at Firenze a Tavola for tasty bites, sips, and open mic night!

Picture 1-2 Picture 2-2 Picture 1

Elites sipped on a 2008 Sangiovese from Balistreri Vineyards, a variety of Pino Grigio from Saturn Wine, and super cold suds from Peroni. They were treated to a mouth-watering display of tapas, fried dough with stracchino cheese and prosciutto, lobster ravioli, and ghiottone - a decadent nutella calzone with mascarpone and banana. Yummmm. While elites noshed down, they got to hear readings of the city's top-rated Yelp reviews.

Picture 6-2 Picture 4-2 Picture 2

Elites also donated to the Chanda Plan Foundation, a great local nonprofit that provides integrated therapies for the physically disabled. Thanks to Hans Oey Photography for snapping the evening, Brent Nicholas with Greater Range DJ for providing our sound support, to Lovely Confections for donating a gift certificate (won by Erin M) and to the Denver Roller Dolls for tickets to their upcoming bout.

Until next time, we'll SYOY!

Boston Elites pleY at Bella Luna & The Milky Way Lounge

Sometimes, we have fancy events. Other times, we have brunch events. But this time around, we decided to have a silly event chock full of games, great food and copious amounts of cocktails! Enter our night at Bella Luna & The Milky Way Lounge, where 125 Boston Elites gathered on Wednesday to partake in some friendly competition at pleY, a game night for adults!

Pic1 Pic2 Pic4
Once inside Bella Luna & The Milky Way Lounge's expansive new space within the Samuel Adams Brewery, Elites had their choice of entertainment, from board games including Monopoly, Scrabble, Cranium, Trivial Pursuit and Bananagrams, to a life-size Connect Four board and Wii Bowling, Tennis and Baseball! To keep hydrated, Elites sipped on serious sauce, featuring Pearl Vodka and El Mayor Tequila cocktails crafted by the bar staff especially for this event, ice-cold cans of 'Gansett and a selction of white and red wine!

Tiles2 Girls2 Trivial
Obviously, all this sportsmanlike conduct is going to work up an appetite and the folks at Bella Luna went all out! Guests noshed on a crudité spread, featuring crispy fresh vegetables, hummus, roasted garlic-balsamic dip, and guacamole, while plate after plate of tapas made their way out of the kitchen. A favorite among the crowd, including Caitlin C, Dennis K and Mary B, was the Crispy Sweet Potato with Buffalo Chicken and Gorgonzola! And for those who's sweet tooth needed some love, the dessert table was overflowing with peanut butter tarts, glazed honey and vanilla bean strawberries, and blueberry-lemon cheesecake parfait!

Pic5_1 Pic6_2 Pic7_2
And that's not all! We took a short break in the action to raffle off some seriously sweet prizes: tickets to Wine Riot and passes to The Boston Underground Film Festival! Wine Riot (incase you haven't heard!), put on by the folks over at The Second Glass
, is super fun expo-style wine tasting taking place over three massive sessions on April 16th & 17th, where you can swirl, sniff and sip over 250 wines from around the world in a hip, down-to-earth, party-vibe setting! Thanks to our friends Morgan and Tyler, co-founders of The Second Glass, Jen H and Chris M won a pair of tickets each to the Saturday afternoon session! The Boston Underground Film Festivalkicking off this week, runs March 25 through April 1 at the Kendall Square Cinema, featuring the bizarre and insane sideshow of sight and sound sure to delight even the most twisted and perverse of tastes. Thanks to Anna F, Festival Director, Hemanth G won tickets to a screening of his choice, while Anna P scored a full pair of festival passes, which gets her into all the great film showings and parties!

NC Triangle Elites Swarm The Hive!

Posted by Christina Gates

Yelpers in the Triangle kicked the spring season – and Elite Events – off the Southern way with a proper garden party at Busy Bee Cafe's upstairs Hive. The weather was balmy and the rooftop patio was perfect for enjoying a drink – or several!

Picture 4 Picture 5

But Elites also buzzed around the bar munching on homemade hummus, crisp calamari, and bruschetta bites whipped up by Busy Bee's chef, Jeremy Clayman. Kudos to the whole staff – and some seriously awesome sponsors – for keeping everyone's thirst quenched! Tripp W sums the sips up nicely: "The LoneRider Peacemaker beer and Maker's Mark cocktails flowed like the nectar of the gods. The bartenders were mix masters and I sipped (maybe I should say gulped) three made-up-on-the-fly drinks that really tickled my fancy."

Picture 6 Picture 7 Picture 8

Donned for the theme in garden party duds, yelpers showed off their style at the PicPod photobooth. And when they weren't preoccupied with all that posing, everyone enjoyed the card-wielding wonders of Michael Casey. Three lucky raffle winners scored a cool canvas print by local NC artists. And of course, Elites finally had a chance to snatch up one of those coveted lunchboxes. On top of all that, yelpers learned about the local Coalition to Unchain Dogs and helped raise funds for a terrific cause.

Picture 9 Picture 11 Picture 10 Picture 12

Read all about it, scope the pictures (courtesy of Phil G), and make sure to check out the silly PicPod shots!

A huge thanks to all of our sponsors! And a toast to all the attending yelpers and yelpers-to-be: here's to you – may it be the first of many fabulous affairs to come!

Until next time, SYOY (see you on Yelp),

Yelpers Get Eco-Luxurious at Philly Homegrown!

Posted by Monica

What's big, green, and filled with the savviest locals? Philly Homegrown! The biggest and baddest Yelp event Philadephia’s ever seen. Over 450 yelpers dolled up in their cocktail best and strutted through CITYSPACE’s posh and lavish corridors!

Behind every room, awaited another local treasure. In the downstairs beauty parlor, guests imbibed Canadian Club whisky and ginger ale. Tom D got his beard trimmed by 2 B Groomed whilst the ladies got their nails buffed and hands massaged by Tierra Mia Organic Nail Spa. Mr. Frazier, the shoe shining extraordinaire, gave yelper's feet a rubdown they'll never forget while the hair experts at Plume Organic Salon consulted on Spring's newest coiffures! Zoe P says is best: Bringing together so many organic/eco-conscious local vendors in this huge, gorgeous mansion resulted in a fun, vibrant party for all who attended!"

_ELS2439 Homegrown028 Homegrown017 TRCPYelp542

Meanwhile, in the room next door, guests washed down terra’s fresh ceviche with samples of Victory’s Prima Pilsner. Winding up the first flight of stairs, yelpers entered the American Gothic space where they posed in front of the famous farmhouse, pitchfork and all! Honest Tea sampled out some of their finest products and even offered spirited samples of Honest Tea vodka punch!

Hungry for more action, yelpers wandered up to the third floor to find freshly made Elevation Burgers, mini crab cakes from Supper, calorie conscious nibbles from Fuel, wrapped up delights courtesy of Pita Pit. Square Peg Artery and Salvage partnered up with The Hacktory and party-goers even got to make jewelry using old computer parts! Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction had their art and ROOT Liqueur on hand, so things definitely got festive in the art room.

TRCPYelp491 _ELS2591 TRCPYelp495

Of course a cocktail affair isn’t complete without the masterful cocktails from The Franklin Mortgage and Investment Co. They created a divine cucumber punch using Square One Organic Cucumber Vodka, a libation so popular Mike, the proprietor, left with weak hands and weary knees. Sugarcube’s impressive pop-up shop installation had yelpers perusing the racks for the season’s finest – they were of course careful not to spill any of National Mechanics' ever-popular vegan Frito chili on the stylish threads.

Magic from Trick Zone had folks wondering where their quarter went and TrickGo clothing proved they’re more than just cool kids running a shop, they’re nice people running a really rad boutique! And endless thanks to DJ Qi Command who kept the energy up with his famed mash ups and the talented photographers (Michael Ferry, Thomas Clarke, Erika Letitia, and Ashley Salada) who documented this very special night.

"From the faux red carpet out front, to the 3 levels of wonderment, this was by far, the best Yelp Event I'd been to." Thanks Jim H, it means a lot. And from us at Yelp to those of you in attendance, thanks for being such good eco-friends! Scope out the photos here, read the 5-star reviews (or post your own), and check out Talk to see what folks are saying! Stay tuned as we announce the next Elite Event at Valanni!

Austin Yelpers Rock SXSW @ The Saturday Stomp

Posted by kelly stocker

Picture this: It’s SXSWeek. The weather is gorgeous and the hipsters are out in full regalia. Torn fishnets and bad haircuts and tight tight pants rule the streets like a gang gone horribly wrong. Enter Austin Yelp. Living it up with some Lone Star tall boys, a sweet east side address and the coolest bands this side of the mason Dixon, the SXSaturday Stomp was all but the party pinnacle of the weeks’ end. Then, the Party Gods decided to play a little cat and mouse, dropping those 75 degree balmy temps to a cool 35 with huge gusts of wind.

So we threw up a lighted “Yelp!” with the gobo Gabi lent us, broke out the guest list and hoped for the best.  Our dedicated bands, brave yelpers and our fave CM, Farrah from Houston, gutted out the cold to attend our first SXSW Yelp Open Party.. Despite the cold, the bands melted our faces off with Fyfe Dangerfield playing inside and Washington playing outside, Wakey, Wakey of Brooklyn breaking out the violin and piano and Jared Mees squeezing in a small horn section much to the delight of the dancing yelpers.

We won’t get overzealous with the yelps but here’s one that sums it up nicely from Britton G.: “This was my first yelp event and I must say It was... AWESOME! Rockin bands, free Lonestar, Free pizza and great company. I didn't know how awesome Iron Gate was but now will add this to my list of bars.”

As mentioned above, highlights from the party include a limited edition run of 100 t shirts, made on site by our friends at Under Pressure, giveaways provided by Canvas Press, an Annie Ray photo booth – where everyone looks gorgeous and accessorized, the free ice cream man slinging product despite cold temps and of course, our super rad setlist, including: Rafter, Fyfe Dangerfield, Wakey Wakey, Twin Tigers, Washington, Boy Eats Drum Machine, Jared Mees + The Grown Children and Fictionist.

London's Yelprechaun Crawl

Posted by Laura Nestler

A Yelprechaun (Irish: yeipreachán) is a type of fairy in yelpish folklore, usually taking the form of an old yelper, clad in a red or green coat, who enjoys partaking in mischief, and copious amounts of Jameson Irish Whiskey. Like other fairy creatures, yelprechauns have been linked to Willie Nelson, Crystal Swing, Micheal Flatley and this guy of infamous Yelpish mythology.

We suggest that you make it a plan4439971719_2098881659
If you fancy some fresh Jameson (er, san...)
Stop being time selfish,
Cry "Kiss Me, I'm Yelpish!"
And get ye arse to the Toucan!

The Yelprechaun Crawl is nigh
So deck yourself out low to high
Wait, we're not finished,
There's also free Guinness!
So parade with us all down the high (street)!

To celebrate St Patrick's Day 2010, Yelpish London Elites honoured the spirit of the Yelprechaun (a rarely seen figure of folklore frivolity) by dressing in their snappiest Yelprechaun ensemble and parading from The Toucan in Soho, London's finest purveyor of all things Irish, to the larger yet lesser known Toucan in Marylebone.

4439971555_03247ec016The epic eve kicked off with a shot of Jameson Irish Whiskey and a half pint of Guinness to warm the traveling band of Yelprechauns.

The parade route snaked through the seedy streets of Soho and down infamous Oxford Street, spreading the time honoured spirit of the Yelprechaun far and wide.

Once the yelprechauns successfully followed their noses and touched down at The Toucan, they were
amply rewarded with more Jameson Irish Whiskey, plenty of nibbles, and enough Irish music to merrily jig the night away. In lesser words, a big pot of Irish Gold!

A huge thank you to our generous sponsors at Jameson Irish Whiskey and The Toucan for keeping the spirit of the Yelprechaun alive and well in London.

Big ups to all the yelprechauns old and new who truly made the evening magical! Read what they had to say HERE.

And endless thanks to our photo poppin' paps Iain B and Craig T for capturing the enchanted evening on film, which you can peep HERE.

Until next time, SYOY!

There is no better way to celebrate the balmy arrival of spring than on a spacious patio during sunset with sweeping views of the Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge as a backdrop. Yelp Elites did just that at Paragon Bar & Café while sipping on expertly crafted libations and sampling finger-licking good nosh, ushering in Yelp Drinks Week with a bang!

Paragon-h4 Paragon-h5 Paragon-h6

The talented staff spoiled us with a dazzling array of cocktails and nibbles. Clinking the Feng Shui, a spectacular mix of Ketel One Citron, muddled cucumber and ginger, Simone F kicked off her first Elite event properly! Elite Vet Todd B was won over by the tasty pork tacos, chicken and waffles, and more, comprising the soon-to-launch happy hour menu. Erik U particularly enjoyed what he describes as the "pineapple drunky train special with an explosion of coconut." With inspiration like that, no wonder his "circle of Yelpship grows a little each time," hmm?

Hurray for all the yelpers and future yelpers that joined in the festivites! Peep the action as shot by Grace L and read recounts of the evening here. As many of the reviews declare, the soirée was made so awesome by the skilled folks at Paragon! Orlando Elites Fill in the ___ @ Blank Space Art Lounge!

Local art, human gymnastic technique and edible cupcake art were just the beginning of the excitement at Orlando’s inaugural Elite Event at Blank Space Art Lounge Saturday night!

Chill beats from Sit Down Disco had everyone mingling and the students of AC-ACTS threading in and out of the ceiling hoop showing off their flexibility skills.

Makers Mark had a bottomless supply of the original premium bourbon whisky flowing as well as quality Makers items to walk away with.  Woodchuck cider sweetened things up with their Granny Smith and Amber selections that helped wash down all the yumminess of Sweet by Good Golly Miss Holly goodies.  Our Yelp pallets were very happy!

HUGE thanks to the absolutely amazing, dope Blank Space Art Lounge staff, bartenders and owner, Jefre, for hosting the first fantastic Orlando Elite Event. Thank you to all the amazing sponsors mentioned above for providing premium quality products and tastes.

Yelp St. Louis Wonders: Are You Down With The Clown?

Posted by Abby Schwarz
Unless you've been hiding under a rock, you've heard the buzz about Clownvis Presley. Part singing sensation, part clown, and 100% St. Louis original, Mr. Presley was kind enough to sit down with Yelp's own Abby S, to let us know what makes him tick... err, honk.

Abby S: We all know that Clownvis performs all over St. Louis, but where do you enjoy performing most?

Clownvis: I do most of my big shows at The Fox Hole, inside Atomic Cowboy. It's the most unique complex in town, with things like a dunk tank, skateboard ramps, and a fire pit. I love it there! But I must say, the club with the most heart in St. Louis has to be The Way Out -- that's where Clownvis cut his teeth.

Abby S: After a show, where do you like to grab a late night snack... say, a fried peanut butter and bacon sandwich?

Clownvis: Oh man, I love a good snack! South City Diner is always a hit. They're adding a "Clownvis Special" to the menu, made of Circus Peanut waffles, vegetarian bacon and ice cream

Abby S: Sounds delicious! Along the same lines, what does Clownvis like to drink? Where do you hang up the jumpsuit and kick back with a cocktail?

Clownvis: Clownvis is proudly sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon. so per contract I must say that PBR is my favorite drink. My favorite local bars are The Royale and The Bleeding Deacon

Clownvisred Clownvisjumpsuit

Abby S: If you could open up for any act, who would it be?

Clownvis: Huh? I'm the headliner, baby! But I'd like to have Pauly Shore open one of my shows someday. I get a kick out of "The Weeeasssle"!

Abby S: Speaking of unique hairdo's, at which local salon would a Clownvis wannabe achieve your famous pompadour?

Clownvis: My hair is a big job, but the boys at American Classic Barbershop on Chippewa always do me up nice.

Abby S: Where do you get those fancy getups?

Clownvis: My suits are custom made by the famous Joe "Squiggles" Peadrickson. He designed suits for Bozo in the 1970's and worked with Meatloaf in the 1980's. In the past five years he has worked exclusively with Clownvis.

Abby S: What does Clownvis do for fun?

Clownvis: Ride things like motor scooters, unicycles, ferris wheels, and the occasional horse. I also enjoy sight-seeing and going to kid's birthday parties.

Abby S: Inquiring minds want to know: Is there a Mrs. Clownvis Presley?

Clownvis: Anyone who researches my past can find quite a history of love stories. Some true, most false or elaborated. Truth is, I'm a roustabout, a ramblin' man, a spirit in the wind, a desperado, a loner, a rebel... 'aint no woman gonna tie this clown down!

Abby S: And probably the most important question of the day. Provel: Yay or nay?

Clownvis: Oh, very yay. I am a real cheese nut and I have to say that in my travels, I have not found nearly enough Provel cheese in America. St. Louis is lucky to have that cheese

Abby S: Well I know you're a busy man, Clownvis, so thanks for taking time out to talk with me today.

Clownvis: Thank you, thank you very much!

Yelp Atlanta's First Annual Yelpies Awards!

While Brangelina wasn't in attendance (there's always next year) The Yelpies were a truly star-studded event worthy of E! Red Carpet coverage. Nearly 150 Atlanta Elites and their guests donned ball gowns and black ties at the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center on March 12, 2010. No hail, wind, or torrential rain could keep the nominees and their friends away from Yelp Atlanta's swankiest soirée yet!

4428128225_dfe76817b7_b 4428129573_694f63cf5f_b L

It wouldn't be a Yelp party without some seriously fantastic local eats, and Pasta da Pulcinella and Top Flr provided just that. While Jason R downed some freshly made ravioli, Daniel B found the tuna tartare and duck confit (served by Executive Chef Shane Devereux himself) to be a win! And to help wash down those elegant eats, even more elegant drinks were provided by Van Gogh Vodka and Basico. Joe L's mind was absolutely blown by the Dutch Caramel Van Gogh and Jinny Y got plenty friendly with Basico's rojo.

About halfway through the event a hush went through the crowd as the awards presentation got underway. Actually, there was no hush: Yelp Elites don't know how to be quiet. But we can pretend.
Many congratulations to the recipients of the first ever Yelpies!

The Dallas Glamboree @ 2616 Commerce

Posted by Nikki B

Dallas's first open party was undoubtedly the swankiest of all soireés filled with local couture, stylish libations and glitzy vibrations. From the live runway shows to the bites from the hottest restaurants in town to the glamorous beverages, The Dallas Glamboree at 2616 Commerce lit up the famous Deep Ellum district with blazing energy!

0IMG_6388 copy 0IMG_6383 IMG_1108 copy

Six local restaurants were ready for the crowds with some of the most delicious finger foods Yelp Dallas has seen. Yelpers noshed on tasty treats like fish tacos, octopus on toast, red velvet whoopie pies and more from Arcodoro Pomodoro, BUZZBREWS Kitchen, Cyclone Anaya's, Lumi Empanada & Dumpling Kitchen, Sambuca and Society Bakery.

Glamboree-6668 copy IMG_1036 copy Glamboree-6671 copy

The well-dressed crowd also indulged in specialty cocktails from Maker's Mark, flavored margaritas made with Dulce Vida Spirits tequila, free-flowing beer from Lone Star (who could resist their free t-shirts and hats being given away as well), and wine and champagne from Barefoot Wine & Bubbly. There was definitely a drink choice for every type of taste bud in attendance!

The Pin Show produced the faaabulous New York fashion week style runway shows that kicked off not once, not twice but three times! The pencil-thin models worked the crowds in between shows wearing local designer duds, and showing off their hair and makeup by Live Hair Group. The stylists even squeezed in time to take care of little ole me!

Glamboree-6771 copy IMG_1111 copy IMG_1266 copy

Handfuls of brave souls jumped into the Smilebooth photo space to show off their pearly whites and unforgettable candid moments, using one of Dallas's oldest murals as a backdrop. Rumor has it that the well-preserved Coca-Cola mural dates back to 1929!

No party is complete without fresh beats and DJ Jonathan Ackerman knew just how to keep the floor thumpin'! He traveled all the way from Minneapolis to spin all night long on sound equipment provided by Blake Ward DJ Services & Equipment Rental.

IMG_6337 copy IMG_6593 copy IMG_6533 copy

Congrats to the lucky raffle winners who walked away with glitzy prizes including a Maker's Mark gift basket, a pair of Stephanie V earrings and two passes to the DALLAS International Film Festival (valued at $250 each)!

The reviews and hotter-than-Heidi-Klum photos (credits to Red Carpet Photographers) are sure to have you wishing you had walked down this runway yourself, but we leave you with some parting words from Scott P: "The Glamboree was a lot of what Yelpers do best - eat, drink, and shoot the breeze with familiar faces and new acquaintances."

Yelp Vancouver's First Open Party: Living La Voya Local

Posted by Crystal H

Dressed in our nautical best, Vancouver yelpers set sail on a fantastic voyage of yummy eats, a bevvy of treats and some smooth beats, this past Wednesday at Voya, inside the Loden Hotel.

To get the party started master mixologist Simon Ogden stirred up a Stinger welcome cocktail (description: Hennessy vs Menthe Pastille) while guests rushed to see the endless sea of goodies Saul Good Gift Co. were serving up on a tasting station made for a true locavore. Meanwhile Whistler Brewing dazzled our beer fixation with Black Tusk Ales and Export Lagers, while Russian Standard spiked the Yelp juice flowing at the bar.

Shot glasses were filled to the brim with Urban Team Merchant's jasmine tea infused vodka cocktails as Voya sponsored wave upon wave of BC spot prawns, eggplant sliders, pumpkin risotto and tuna tar tar just to name a few of their chef's awesome creations. VIPs and Elites got a chance to test their record spinning talents after being schooled by Girl On Wax. There's no question, DJ Leanne has some mad skills and kept us grooving all night long.

And after primming and prepping with lashes and moustaches at the Wink Beauty Lounge, yelpers donned their sailor caps and took a Photobooth Vancouver excursion, many more than once!

Read all of the tales and check out all of the pictures (photo creds to Raymond O and Gina I) and in the words of nautically dressed yelper, Dave S: "Holy thermal underwear batman! This party was friggin cooooool!"

Until our next adventure, SYOY!

Yelp Rocks The Woods!

Posted by Don Bourassa

On Wednesday, March 10th 150 of Portland's Elite took a trip over the river and to The Woods for a night of rock band tees, metal outfits, mix-tape madness, and local music at Yelp Rocks The Woods

 Typhoon 2

It may have been a chilly day on the banks of the Willamette, but that didn't stop Yelpers like Katrina W from getting decked out in flaming hot rock tees and metal gear in preparation for a night of beers and bands! The Ninkasi brews were flowing even faster than water (if that's possible), and while the Spring Reigns fell out side, the Total Domination inside made a Believer out of everyone. There was even rumor of a Tricerahops attack later on in the night! And of course, with beer comes food, and none other than local Sellwood superstar Jade Teahouse and Patisserie provided a staggering spread of hand-made egg rolls, sesame balls with mung bean and coconut, their signature salad rolls, and a Vietnamese Wedding Cake that's been a recipe in the making for 40 years. The spread was incredible!

Spring Rolls Jade

Just beer and food, that sounds kinda boring! Ok, no... actually it doesn't, but that didn't stop us from going all out and linking up with one of Portland's hottest up-and-coming local acts Typhoon to play an amazing hour-long set. This multi-piece act that incorporated horns, two drummers, two bass players, various percussion, backup vocals, and lead guitar and vocals, really brought the energy and emotion to the stage. They rocked hard, and in true Woods fashion, knocked 'em dead.

Of course it wouldn't be a proper theme party unless there were some prizes for best dressed. With mullet wigs and zebra print in full effect, it's no wonder that Markus H and Co. took home a prize for most rockin'. With honorable mention to Joe M with his Fresh Prince/Prince shirt and mad props to the ultra-awesome Hanson Tee!

Winners Rockin

The costumes weren't the only thing rocking that night. With Yelp Portland's first ever mix-tape swap in effect, Yelpers were also leaving with some new tunes to review, like Kari M's "Unf*ckwithable" mix, Stanley T's "Portland" collection, and anonymous favorites like "Songs of Death" (we were in a converted mortuary, after all) and "Dead, Death, Dying." Needless to say, the Yelp Elite Squad never goes home empty-handed!

Kim V

A huge amount of thanks are due to our amazing sponsors Ninkasi Brewing, Jade Teahouse and Patisserie, Riot Act Media, and of course, The Woods! Special thanks to the people behind the scenes: Nathan W (from Riot Act), Morgan Miller (from Ninkasi), Heather B, Vivien (from The Woods), April (from Jade), Joshua C, Ligaya T, Luther L, Hilary B and everyone else who chipped in to put this thing together and get it off the ground. A big thanks to Typhoon for rocking our socks off. And of course, as always, the people without whom this would never have been possible - the Portland Yelp Elite Squad, which reminds me on a daily basis that they are best damn Yelpers in the world. Don't believe me? Just check reviews and the photos!

Until next time, SYOY!

New York Elites Go Local At Sweet Afton!

Whether you're a Queen or just a jester you'd be hard pressed to find and more divine and delicious event than the locavore lover's Elite Event at Sweet Afton last night! Our inaugural elite shindig in Queens, this borough sure blew everyone away. Or perhaps it was just those Spicy Cherry Margaritas, the Tito's Dirty Pickle Martinis, Sweat Tea, Red Lemonade and Miller's Gin Martinis that left yelpers with the cocktail shakes.
Picture 2 Picture 9 Picture 10 Picture 12
And when the bartenders weren't practicing their muddling skills, they were pouring smooth drafts of New York brews: Captain Lawrence Pale Ale, Kelso Nut Brown Lager, Ommegang Witte, Red Wagon IPA and Kelso Pilsner.

Picture 3 Picture 5
While the bevvies flowed like the Hudson, a delicious array of local eats were swiftly carried out of the Sweet Afton kitchen and into the hands of hungry Elites. Christina C snuggled into a booth and indulged in Irish Sausage rolls with HP sauce, hand cut fries with malt vinegar, beer battered fried McClures pickles, "grilled cheese sandwiches made of gruyere, muenster and Irish cheddar with whole grain mustard and some delicious thinly sliced pickles." Guests also savored the much raved about Sweet Afton Burger with "perfectly cooked, medium Pat LaFrieda beef with irish cheddar cheese, tomato, onions, lettuce and those amazing pickles again!"
Picture 4 Picture 16 Picture 13
HUGE thanks to the absolutely amazing Sweet Afton staff, bartenders and owner, Ruairi for hosting the first fanastic Queens Elite Event. Thank you to all the amazing sponsors mentioned above for providing premium quality products and tastes.

Yelp Phoenix In Bloom at Desert Botanical Garden!

On Wednesday night, March 3rd, the Desert Botanical Garden hosted the biggest event in Yelp Phoenix history... Yelp in Bloom!  Approximately 1000 yelpers attended to celebrate how Yelp has BLOOMed through the years, and enjoyed the magical venue, fabulous food, delicious drinks, and awesome entertainment.

Those VIP lucky enough to make the list were welcomed with Hibiscus Infused Cruz Tequila Margaritas and posed for the papparazzi upon entering the gorgeous garden. From there, they made their way to Stardust Plaza, Boppart Courtyard, and Dorrence Hall where Yelp's partners pulled out all of the stops.

Food was provided by 5th and Wine, Bombay Spice, Cien Agaves, Mamma Mia, Peddler's Son Produce, Petite Maison, Roka Akor, Salty Señorita, The Mission, and Wildflower Bread Company. And there was no shortage of sweets either thanks to Butter & Me, JJ's Brownies, Let Them Eat Cake, Gelato Spot and XOXO Bake Shop.

Additional libations were flowing like water compliments of Dirty Blonde Cocktails, Full Sail Brewery, Karlsson's Gold Vodka, and Makers Mark Bourbon. And with ResQwater on-site, yelpers kissed their hangovers goodbye! Kudos to the folks at Simply Servers and Pour Masters for teaming up with Yelp to check IDs and staff the bars.

Kool Party Rentals added to the beautiful setting with their wireless LED acrylic furniture. Many took "face time" with Diane from Frickin' Awesome Face Painting. And the entertainment... oh, the entertainment! World Famous Rani "g" and musician Shea Marshall rocked the house! Yelpers were in awe as they watched aerialists from Circus School of Arizona and Gregangelo & Velocity Circus perform throughout the night. And burlesque dance demos from Scandalesque and Vega Performance Art Co took the party to another level! All the while, Jon Ric Salon was on-site making everyone more beautiful, and there was lots of photo booth action thanks to Snapbooth Entertainment.

To top things off, raffle prizes were given out for DBG memberships, EaterAZ Barbecue Festival, Great AZ Beer Festival, and a basket from Just Because. Goodie bags were given out as well.

Yelp In Bloom was one hell of a party – and you can relive it by reading the reviews, checking out the official photos from Acme Photography and those from others, Snapbooth's photobooth pics, and sharing all the gossip on Talk. As yelper, Heather C puts it, "It is so wrong to limit me to 5 stars.  Yelp needs a special infinity star for events such as this!!"

Lastly, thanks Julia T for planning the after party at Coach House...

Yelp Chicagoland Elites Celebrate Local Creativity!

Posted by Jelena Z

This past Friday, over 100 Chicago Suburban Elites gathered for Yelp Art Attack! at the Glitch Gallery for a vibrant dose of fresh local art as well as an acoustic set from local musician Scottie Long. While peeping the art exhibit, guests noshed on rave-worthy flatbreads, assorted cheese and meats, chocolate truffles and sampled a selection of wines from Flight 112 Wine House. If that wasn't enough to whet guests' spirited palates, lychee, apple, and Cosmopolitan martinis made with organic Rain Vodka delivered on the buzz as did Kraken Rum cocktails. Trumer Pils and Shiner Bock beers also made a very welcome appearance!

Some guests sprung for a complimentary hair styling while others had their brows shaped into beautiful arches. Still others chose rejuvenating anti-aging treatments while several opted for precision hair cuttery. By the end of the evening, one thing was certain: everyone enjoyed the benefits of local creativity in some shape or form. Be sure to read the reviews here and check out all the fabulous photos!

Denver Elites Kick Off Yelp Drinks Week with Febtoberfest!

Posted by Laura Levaas

What? You haven't heard of Febtoberfest? Well, ask the Denver Yelp Elite Squad, and they'll tell you it's the only way to celebrate the tumultuous transition from February to March, especially when the first week of March is Yelp Drinks Week!

4  10

The Cheeky Monk Belgian Beer Cafe was the scene of much Yelpy activity last Sunday, with elites engaging in some friendly but competitive Pimp Cup and Mardi Gras mask decorating, while noshing on a delicious buffet of boiled crawfish & potatoes, artichoke & spinach dip, fried pickles, mussels marnier, and crispy frites. A cascading chocolate fountain was there for the dippin' with pancake-battered fried bananas, marshmallows, and fresh strawberries. No Yelp Drinks celebration would be complete without the drinks, right? Free-flowing Carlsberg Lager, Fruli Strawberry White Beer, and Rain Vodka hurricanes kept everyone happy for the camera.

1  8   F

Three ultimate Pimp cup champions walked away victorious with gift certificates to Accent Beauty, Cheeky Monk, and to see the first bout of the Denver Roller Dolls later this month. Thanks to Adam Russell for taking awesome pics and printing on-the-spot so yelpers had some snappy snaps to take home.

Yelp Drinks Kick Off Soiree @ Yoshi's!

On the eve of Yelp Drinks, local media types like this broke ass and a group of swanky Yelp Elites whooped it up at Yelp Drinks participant, Yoshi's! As bands performed sound check below, the funky, groovy sounds of DJ Sonny Phono made sure the party was poppin' upstairs in Yoshi's private saké lounge. In this case, saké gave way to SKYY Vodka, as we highlighted one of the three drinks Yoshi's will be featuring for 50% off all week long, the South Seas Daiquiri! Made with the brand spankin' new SKYY Infusions Ginger, the specialty cocktails were flowing with as much ferocity as the white wash at Mavericks (but without the broken legs!).

For pictures, click here! For reviews of the event, click here. And of course, make sure to take advantage of the 50% off drinks all week from today (March 1st) through Sunday, March 7th at the 25 bars and restaurants from around the city taking part in Yelp Drinks!

Snacktastic Yelpcorn, Rock Operas, Hawks, and Hilarity at Metro Detroit's Yelprov Event

Posted by Mariah C

February in Michigan can feel beyond dreary. So, it was perfect timing for an Elite Squad soiree that would give yelpers somethin' to smile about. This Friday, Ferndale's Go Comedy hosted the crew for heavy dose of off-the-cuff hijinks and laughter at Metro Detroit's Yelprov party!

While checking in and catching up, yelpers congregated in Go's cheerfully painted lobby and bar. Guests sipped on beer, a refreshing little concoction called a Joan Collins, and knocked back a few shots (to take the chill off, of course!). Yelp set up a bar of another kind -- a salty-and-sweet buffet!  Starting with freshly popped Yelpcorn, each yelper got to select other salty or sweet toppings (flavored salts, cinnamon & sugar, classic show-time candies) to shake on top or enjoy separately.
4397456216_3cbc87890b 4396689541_9ee0bf943a

All of this snacktastic shakin' was just a prelude to the real highlight -- two back-to-back shows of side-splitting humor from the talented crew at Go.  The first portion of the night was yelpers' very own customized rock opera, entitled Twizzlers, which led the audience on a musical romp through love, jealousy, and...dessert pizza.

4396685281_f6cf4c5c74 4396687393_90a0972770

The fun continued with more improv, including some hysterical hawk-breeding. After squeals, laughs and shrieks of approval, the show wound down, and Becki B and her husband were the lucky winners of a certificate for another night out at Go! Check out some snaps and what folks had to say!

4397460770_a4268ac800 4397448444_e7b9e93d85
Giant thanks to the dedicated (and extremely talented) cast and staff at Go Comedy for helping to turn a chilly February evening into a hot-and-hilarious night!
