Seattle's Yelp Elite are All About Autumn

Posted by Katie Scharer

Seattle's Yelp Elite came out for a fantastically fun fall event at Louisa's on Eastlake! Yelpers and their guests sipped on wine and nibble on bites from their fabulous fall menu while they mingled with their fellow Yelp. The crab cakes and filet were a huge hit, as were the brownies. Wine flowed for hours, as Yelpers enjoyed a cozy evening at this lovely restaurant!

New Seattle Community Manager Katy H received a very warm welcome as she was announced to the Elite Squad. A long time member of the SeaTown Yelp Community, we're very happy to have her aboard! Yelpers also voted on the winning pumpkin, which belonged to Nori V.

Ma Vie en Yelp

Posted by Johnny Todd

Yelpers crossed both time and space to make Yelp Masquerades à la Maxim's a smashing success!  Picture it: Paris, 1900s, red drapes, seductive seating...and yelpers! Chicago's Elite squad came out in force and in their best cocktail attire and fancy french masks to celebrate Halloween with a twist. Maxim's (a replica of the famed Parisian landmark) served as host for this très bon event.

After checking in, yelpers descended down a winding staircase to hear melodious piano playing that set the mood for a whimsical and romantic evening. As they crossed the floor into the bar area, yelpers got to choose from four different specialty cocktails, courtesy of Pearl vodka. As a perfect pairing to the libations, yelpers dined on savory crêpes from Crepe Bistro.

IMG_7194 - Version 2 IMG_7205 - Version 2 IMG_7252 - Version 2

The evening continued into the dining room, where a mirrored panel slid away to reveal - Eyes Manouche!  The band delighted yelpers with nearly two hours of French-rooted gypsy balkan dance music. They got the yelpers to their feet and rocked the house. All that dancing makes a yelper hungry for sweets! Luckily, thanks to D'Absolute Catering's top-notch service, there were plenty of sweet crêpes from Crepe Bistro and cupcakes (in flavors like crème brûlée, hot chocolate and champagne) from Luscious Layers passed around to satisfy even the most demanding sweeth tooth.

And all this great action was caught on film! You can see ShutterBooth pictures here or experience the night through the lens of Zoran Orlic of Zero Studio here. The pictures alone don't tell the tell. Check out what yelpers had to say here. Ohh la la, Yelp!  Laissez les bon temps roulez!

Yelpers Get Ghoulish at Privé

Posted by Monica

In the spirit of All Hallow's Eve, Philadelphia's Yelp Elite Squad packed the swanky house at Privé for a spooktacular night of Venitian masks, Devo hats, and Batman grappling hooks!

Prive05 Prive11 Prive34

The hotness only continued with a feast of delectable Mediterranean cuisine courtesy of Privé, who supplied a little something for everyone! Manda W described the butlered offerings as "little vittles of heaven!" And with beverages in bulk supplied by Cruzan Rum and Jim Beam's newest bourbon baby, Red Stag, everyone kept their cool with the Privé Punch and the Red Stag Cherry Lemonade flowing all night long!

 Prive41 Prive49 Prive68

Capturing the moments of mayhem and debauchery was our very own Minnie Mouse, er, Ferry, and keeping the door in check was the ever-gracious and good looking, Peter D! Had a costume favorite or memory to share? Peep the official photos and be sure let us know what you loved!

Roaring 20's Halloween Melt Down in Palo Alto

Posted by Jessica T

The Roaring Twenties were a time of social and artistic expression. And judging by the plethora of stunning flapper dresses, Gatsby T-Strap shoes, black and white pin-striped suits, fedoras, head-bands, boas, Tommy Guns, Bonny and Clyde get-ups, and yes, even a "We Want Beer" prohibition sign at the Silicon Valley Yelp Elite Event at swanky Melt Lounge in Downtown Palo Alto last night, it looks like 2009 is finishing with a creative "roaring" bang!

South Bay yelpers arrived at low-lit Melt ready to party. Hats were cocked to the side, black patent shoes glistened beneath Melt's stunning chandeliers, while couples in matching black and red 20's outfits made themselves comfortable on the chic zebra print chairs and cozy crimson booths.

4057897554_9fe9844ec8 4057899332_9274a3896f 4057172429_b05f1ae339 4057895278_8ac762b670

Dapper and sleekly dressed yelpers sipped on delicious Rain Organics Vodka cocktails, and toasted cold Firestone brews, while snacking on Melt's piping hot postickers, fresh vegetable and chicken filled quesadillas, and crispy fries. As the night progressed, guests loosened their suspenders, adjusted their feather adorned head-bands and made their way to the dance floor upstairs to jam out to the DJ Dan Wallace's rockin' mix: of everything from MGMT classics to Lady Ga-Ga. Come the end of the event, the dance floor was a sea of roaring Zoot suits and fringed dresses. There was even a 1920's surgeon caught boogying it down!

The days of Prohibition are long gone, but it was evident by the the recounts of the great times to be had, as well as the pics from last night, including those from Carol L, that the Roaring 20's are still alive in Palo Alto! Huge thanks to Melanie and her staff at Melt for hosting us!

Yelp Presents EaDo Palooza!

Posted by Farrah Akhtar

More than 600 yelpers made way to Francisco Studios on Saturday, October 24, 2009, ready to explore the sights, sounds, tastes, and culture of Houston's East Downtown District – otherwise now known as "EaDo."

Not a dull moment to be had, as with each twist and turn the crowd made through the eight open studios were walls splashed with art from more than a dozen local talented painters, sculptors, photographers and instillation masterminds.

House of Blues resident deejay Wyatt Magnum took over the main stage and put the festivities into a groove as he spun old skool vinyls, and DJ Creole, Freddy B, Tunsai and WyldStyl hip hop dance company worked JB Carrillo's studio. Along with live nude sketching by Johnathan Felton, famous urban artist GONZO247 also entertained palooza partygoers with a live graffiti demonstration on a donated vehicle!

Special thank you to all of our sponsors, including EaDo eateries Calliope's Po-Boy, Huynh and Lucky's Pub for providing the bites and Rain Organics Vodka, Saint Arnold Brewing Company and Monster Energy for keeping the crowd cool.

We also can't forget Aerosol Warfare Gallery & Boutique, EaDo, Houston Electric Cars, Fresh Arts Coalition, Hotel Icon, Houston Dynamo and the Dynamo Girls, Lofts at the Ballpark, Magnum Music Group, and all of the participating artists: Andrew Chapa, Andy Howell, Brian Boyter, char koho, Christian Navarrete, Cyndi Valverde, daniel-kayne, Elisabeth Jackson, GONZO247, JB Carrillo, Jim Olive, Johnathon Felton, Joseph Cohen, Marshall Hinman, Santiago Lee, Tomas Glass

Yelp Bubbly Toes Spa Retreat!

Posted by Jelena Z

This past Friday evening, Chicagoland Yelp Elites gathered for an evening of blissful mini-spa services at Elan Hair Body & Sole including manicures, makeup application, blowouts and styling, waxing and massages. Even a few brave males made it out for some pampering!

La Gondola Italian Restaurant generously provided Chardonnay and Sangiovese from their new wine list, and some French champagne made a welcome appearance too! In between sips and spa treatments, yelpers nibbled on sweet treats from Pastries Not Potatoes. Mini cupcakes, a salted caramel confection and the pièce de résistance: a chocolate fondue fountain with pound cake and marshmallows for our dippin' delight!

Viva Yelp! at Café Habana!

Posted by Mariah C

Metro Detroit's Yelp Elite Squad got down underground last evening -- at the mojito bar & salsa lounge of Ann Arbor's own little slice of Cuba -- Café Habana

With Cuban music setting the tone, yelpers nibbled on mariquitas, baked goat cheese, and tacos al pastor, all while nursing mojitos, margartias and Habana's own special brew
                  DSCN5242 DSCN5259

Yelper Nick H hammed it up for the camera, and Athena K walked away the lucky winner of a gift certificate to the nearby Michigan Theater. Elite Squad members eagerly opened their brand-spankin'-new Yelp lunchboxes, and a few scuffles even ensued with envious friends...               DSCN5251 DSCN5249

Big thanks to the staff and owners at Café Habana -- for taking care of the Elite Squad with style and aplomb and leaving yelpers proclaiming: "Viva Yelp!" Check out some pics and reviews as they roll in...

East Bay's Steins & 'Staches Oktoberfest!

If there's one thing that yelpers and Germans have in common, it's the mutual appreciation for a brilliant combination of malts, yeast and hops. That's right, beer is dear to our hearts, and last night at Pyramid Brewery and Alehouse in Berkeley, East Bay Elites and guests discovered just how deep that love goes! From Haywire Hefeweizen and Audacious Apricot Ale to Thunderhead IPA, swigging was the name of the game. And to go along with our lip-smacking good brews, the generous kitchen filled our bellies with all sorts of goodies!

Pyramid-v1 Pyramid-v5Pyramid-v4 Pyramid-v2

In proper Deutsch style, some imbibers came decked in lederhosen and dirndl, while others embraced a more contemporary German look, the mustache! After a few pints of ale in custom-decorated steins, folks polkaed to the sounds of oompa band, Big Lou's Casserole. We'd be lying if we said there wasn't some chicken dancing and do-si-doing going on! Ahhh, what inspiration beer brings.

Danke schoen to the entire Pyramid crew for taking such good care of us! Something about local brew just tastes better. How good? See for yourself on Flickr, and hear the tales from yelpers themselves!

Inspired to join us next time? Yelp.com/Elite has all the details.

Until next time...

Toronto Yelpers Eat & Drink Locally At Harbord House!

Posted by Kat F.
 Pump1 Pump2 Pump3a

This past Tuesday, Toronto yelpers were treated to a feast of appetizers and ale as they mixed and mingled upstairs at Harbord House!

As guests arrived they were handed one half of a festive pumpkin cutout and instructed to find their corresponding pumpkin match - coupled matches then went head-to-head answering ten trivia questions about Toronto in celebration of Harbord House's approach to from-scratch comfort food that's close to home!

Food1 Food2 Food3

Throughout the night the food was flowing and no one stayed emptyhanded for long - we spotted Jail Island smoked salmon salad on a potato pancake with lemon-dill aioli and organic greens, artfully assembled Goat Cheese & Fig salad and Berkshire Pulled Pork sandwiches on slider-sized egg buns. Everyone let out a collective gasp when a massive wicker basket of individually newspaper-wrapped fish 'n chips arrived: yummy beer battered haddock with a pile of yukon gold frites deep inside the cone. To finish off, individual English Sticky Toffee Puddings made the rounds and as you can see from the carnage left over, they were a hit!

While not everyone knew the answer to which streetcar serves 45,000 passengers a day (510 Spadina), many knew that Degrassi High was the first televised show to drop "the F bomb" (yelpers sneaked glances at the Degrassi movie playing on the big screen while mingling). The taps were flowing with specialty Pumpkin Ale from Great Lakes Brewery - Toronto's oldest craft brewery - as well as Albertan Big Rock Traditional Ale, and reps David and Kevin were there to chat with inquisitive yelpers about beer, bottle openers and the Calgary Flames.

A very special thank you to owner John Oakes and his wonderful staff at Harbord House - these supremely hospitable folks know how to throw a kickass party!

Check out the fancy photos from the event, taken by yelper Jeff Jewiss, plus all the glowing reviews and promises of return visits from our elite yelpers!

Yelp Boston's Passport to Kendall Square Launch Party

It's no secret around our city that Kendall Square is the home of all things technological. This industrial hood houses many bio-med giants and web-centric companies that are gaining momentum and securing this square's position as the next Silicon Valley. But what about eats, drinks and just plain fun? Turns out, Kendall is packed with places to fill your belly, quench your thirst and get your butt in gear! And on October 14, 2009 Yelp Boston community members, city dwellers and urban adventurers alike gathered at the incredible Microsoft New England Research & Development Center to celebrate this neighborhood's restaurants, bars, fitness centers and general ability to rock it out!

Yelp_Kendall_Sq-1  Yelp_Kendall_Sq-6  Yelp_Kendall_Sq-15  Yelp_Kendall_Sq-10

Though there was no travel plans required for this party, guests lined up to snag their exclusive Passports, filled with discounts to some of the top-rated Kendall Square businesses! Once inside, Daryn F loved walking down the stairs from the eleventh to the tenth floor, taking in the gorgeous views of the Boston skyline, while Hisham K cheered as he watched the "huge-ass screen where yelpers were jamming out to the Beatles Rock Band," brought to us by Harmonix! For more performances, the crew from Mosaic was pulling out all the laughs with their comedy routine, the Boston Underground Film Festival kept it creepy with a showing of film shorts and Illius Rock was laying down danceable beats on the first floor!

Yelp_Kendall_Sq-145 Yelp_Kendall_Sq-110 Yelp_Kendall_Sq-173 Yelp_Kendall_Sq-111

After working up a sweat, party goers could chow down on specially prepared dished from the nine different restaurants present, including Bambara, Cambridge Brewing Company, Craigie On Main, Le Cordon Bleu Boston, Amelia's Trattoria, MexiCali Burrito Co., Tommy Doyle's, Legal Seafoods and Zigo. We think Sarah G summed up the yum yum best: "Baked brie, teriyaki salmon, butternut squash quesadillas, clam chowder, butternut and sage tortellini, hob knob chocolate, fresh pork sandwiches, butternut bisque with crab meat, irish stew, rolled salmon and capers, and chocolate chip cookies!" And in case you were thirsty, Orange V brought that smooth citrus vibe with their 007 cocktail and Domaine de Canton's ginger lemonade was enjoyed all night. Wine and bubbly was plentiful, thanks to Barefoot Wine, while Pumpkin Ale from CBC and cider-inspired Pearl Vodka cocktails kept everyone in seasonal spirits!

And that was not all! Erin M got her knots nixed in the massage lounge, sponsored by Google and Joint Ventures, while Ashley P got beautified with a uniquely designed henna tattoo by Mo-Henna Art Entertainment. Cambridge Athletic Club, FitCorp and Equilibrium were on hand with lessons on how to stay fit, while Photo Fun Box and Kendall Press caught all the action on camera!

And the best part of it all? This evening's proceeds went to benefit East End House, who were on hand collecting donations for their various community programs. Plus, this action-packed event kicked off a week of discounts throughout Kendall Square from October 14 to October 21! Missed the party but still want in all of the exclusive offers? Download the passport!

A special thank you to Microsoft New England's Research & Development Center, as well as the entire staff of Clearly Creative and the Kendall Square Association for all of their time and hard work in helping to make this event so fabulous!

Check out all the photos, snapped by Tatsu I and Natasha Moustache here, add your thoughts on the event with a review and be sure to chime in on Talk before those passports expire!

See you next time!

Yelpers Mix-Tape it Up at San Francisco's Sloane

Posted by Jessica T

Another month, another groovy San Francisco Yelp Elite blow out! This time around, we found ourselves on the mean streets of SOMA at Sloane. It's shiny, it's new... and they opened their doors for a special evening of great drinks, great friends, and great vibes!

Patty Happy Happy2 Happy3

Bluecoat gin made sure that everyone in attendance imbibed in style (as these cats scored two gold metals at the San Francisco Spirits Awards this past year), and everyone's favorite sandwich spot in the Castro, Ike's Place, supplied some of the amazing specialty sandwiches that's quickly made them the comfort food darlings of the city. From vegan options to the infamous 'Name of the Girl I'm Dating,' fantastic eats were in full effect!

 Lauren GinBluecoatJustin

Of course, this party was all about creative forces coming alive in the form of mixtapes! Everyone at the soiree was encouraged to raid their iTunes library for some hidden aural confections, and some of the mixes we encountered didn't disappoint (sexy time mix, boner jams '09 and the best of WWF thems songs, anyone?).

    Mollie DarrylCdwhatMixtape1

And our boy DJ Enrico rocked the house, throwing down a great soundtrack for a bangin' hump day in the middle of October (did we really just use "bangin'" and "hump" in the same sentance?).

NYC Elites Celebrate YelptoberFest at Heartland Brewery!

Just when you thought the beer guzzling, brat munching holiday known as Oktoberfest had finally concluded, Yelp New York brings us the most dastardly indulgent holiday of all: YelptoberFest! That's right, Yelp Elites from boroughs near and far gathered at the flagship location of Heartland Brewery at the Empire State Building.

Picture 8 Picture 9 Picture 14

Once shuttled in out of the cold, Elites warmed up to taps pouring the finest beer NYC has to offer with four signature brews: Heartland Oktoberfest Ale, Smiling Pumpkin Ale, Empire Premium Pilsner and Heartland Heffeweizen along with any other brew a yelper's heart may desire. If quality ale wasn't enough, an array of wines by the glass and a seriously delicious Snake Oil Milkshake (Jagermeister and Vanilla anyone?) quenched the thirst of a couple hundred Elites - which is no small accomplishment!

Picture 10 Picture 11 Picture 12

To soak up all these harvest libations, the ever gracious Heartland staff passed platters of Southern Fried pickles, mini Kobe burgers, tuna tartar and soft pretzels to the delight of many a yelper. As Oriana J says, "OM-NOM-NOMed." When they weren't listening to the Oom-pah sounds of the live German Jazz Band, yelpers like Lora C and Ryan M dove right into the Sausage and Saurkraut bar in the back room. And hopefully everyone indulged in their just desserts with Landrin Chocolates sprinkled throughout the venue and at the special Two Little Red Hens treat table. That ooey gooey pumpkin cheesecake and the tiny chocolate truffle raspberry cupcake had Yvonne W "feeling like a total glutton, but it was so worth it."

Picture 13 Picture 16 Picture 15 Picture 17

If that wasn't enough, be sure to check out all the fun photos right here! If you were there, leave your review of the event here and check out what they're saying on talk here.

Now only one question remains: when is Heartland going to brew us that special "Sweet On Yelp Elite Ale" we've all been dying for?

Yelp Miami's Anniversary Elite Event at MaiTardi

Posted by Maria Arguello

On Thursday, October 1rst Miami's Elite yelpers celebrated their one year Anniversary Elite event. The start of a new year was done in glamorous style at MaiTardi a new luxe lounge in Miami's Design District. Upon arrival yelpers were greeted with trays of colorful cocktails including strawberry proseccos, kiwi mojitos, mimosas, and bubbly. They were then handed $25 gift cards courtesy of the Graspa Group. Eve C was almost speechless, "Wow.  That pretty much sums up the Yelp Miami 1-Year Anniversary at MaiTardi.  Wow."

They went on to sample a wide array of the restaurants new menu including seafood lasagna, a goat cheese and cranberry reduction on a beet chip, sesame crusted sea scallops, and vennison ravioli. Plus a fresh prosciutto station. Elites were also able to imbibe from the full, top shelf, open bar and finish the night off on a sweet note with dolce tiramisu. Denise F summed it up best: "The food and drinks were, in a word, magnificent!" Of course, after the party there's the after party and the News Lounge served as the second stellar destination with the first drink on the house.

Denver Yelp Elites Party Like Mobsters and Molls

Posted by Laura Levaas

The Denver Elite Squad channeled their inner gangsters Monday night at Gaetano's with the finest flapper dresses and zoot suits around to celebrate prohibition-style! Bullet-proof glass, toy machine guns, and shiny new lunchboxes? What more could a yelper ask for?

Our hotsy-totsy guys and gals sipped on signature Bombay Sapphire Collins cocktails and Railyard Ale from Wynkoop Brewing Company, and noshed on oodles of antipasta, sausage and peppers, bruschetta, and pizza. In the words of Tiffany W: "What a fantastical throw-back to the Flapperific era thanks to Yelp. So many great costumes (glad to see so many got into the spirit!)... so much great food... and Sapphire Collins'... atta'boy!" That's no baloney!

Culinary Cocktails at The Drawing Room

Posted by Johnny Todd

The Drawing Room played host to this Chicago Elite event that brought together an intimate grouping of Elites with handcrafted cocktails of the past.  The combination was pure Yelp magic.  What’s a handcrafted cocktail look like?  They look a little something like this.

-2
-3

From the very beginning, this evening was an experience in ‘cool.’  A charming doorman and a digital menu sign beckoned Yelpers off the street and into the lounge.  Once they walked downstairs, they soon realized that this was no ordinary lounge.  This basement was an education to the senses: low lighting, cool music, comfortable seating, citrus smells and delectable tastes.

-4

Off the bat, Yelpers got an introduction to the three cocktails that were the stars of the show.  There was the classic cool Manhattan, the summer fresh Aviation and the citrus showcase Venerable.  And, speaking of showcase, Head Mixologist Charles Joly gave the Yelpers a demonstration of the tableside bar cart service for which The Drawing Room is famous.  You heard us right: drinks prepared just for you – at your table!

-1

As amazing as the cocktails were, the magic did not end there.  There was great food as well!  Yelpers sampled Arctic Char, Bacon^2 and a deconstructed braised beef short rib burger.  The intimate setting allowed Yelpers to have the chance to talk to one another for extended periods as well as get to make new Yelp buddies.  So, whether they drank it, ate it, talked it out, or all three, Yelpers surely got their fill.

-5

Don’t just take our word for it, check out the reviews for yourself.

The rebirth of cool was not televised; it was yelped.

East End Infused London Elites

Posted by Lizzie G

Last night the London Elite Squad descended upon The Hoxton Pony for an evening of East End Infusions. Don't know what we are talking about? Here are some snappy snaps to help whet your appetite!

As Elites poured into the exclusive downstairs basement, they were greeted by one-of-a-kind self-cooling Infusion Jars filled with infused organic UK5 Vodka. Muddled with berries, vanilla, lemongrass and ginger they quickly became a firm favourite.

Elites were then spoilt with Papagayo Fairtrade White Rum infused with lemons and rosemary resulting in what can only be described as a taste explosion. Both Chris R and Chris O had pinkies raised high as they sipped out of classic tea cups!

As if that wasn't enough, they also got to chow down on a selection of tasty delights from The Hoxton Pony's beautiful menu. Huge thanks to Alex at Organic Spirits Co., as well as the gracious hosts, nimble bar staff, and brave canape passers at The Hoxton Pony!

Just as you thought the night was coming to an end, Tirthankar D's eyes lit up as we passed out the coolest Elite treat of all time: Yelp Lunchboxes. In fact, Linzi M was so excited it got her grooving on the dance floor, who was quickly joined by our newest elite Tisha B. As soul classics (and some MJ, of course,) pumped through the speakers via resident DJ Joe, the evening concluded with elites takin' it back old school style and using Yelp thermoses for as many unsavory purposes as possible.

Missed it? Want more? Check out the reviews and have a look at Joe Upton's eye popping photos.

That's enough tea cups and cocktails for one night – we can't wait for the next party!

It was a recipe for shenanigans: take one part hip East Austin enclave, some Trumer Pils and Tony C's pizza, a quirky family photobooth crowd sourcing DJs and a dizzy washers tournament and let the games begin! Whether it was Camron R's teetering toss of the washer or Mark C's amazing photobooth experiment, yelpers made the most of a cool and overcast Saturday. A Saturday we'll never forget!

Vancouver Yelpers Live The Refined Life

Posted by Crystal H

Southern belles and Kentucky Derby contenders would be tickled pink with Vancouver’s Elite Party at The Refinery Monday night.

_ONE4374  IMG_0506  _ONE4395

In Renee C’s words, “The bottles lined the room up high, watching Elites mingle, smile, laugh, and drink.  They had a birds-eye view of the fun and friendly people, the Maker’s Mark bourbon that flowed freely into peach-preserve drinks made lovingly by Ron Oliver and Executive Chef Michael Carter's carefully chosen and prepared canapés. One of the mixologists at the Refinery, and the maker of the peach preserves, Lauren Mote, worked the room enthusiastically, clearly passionate about her art!”

  _ONE4363  IMG_0510  IMG_0527

Of course, a few yelpers like Barry M and Rachael T had some lucky horseshoes of their own, winning tickets to the Hopscotch Scotch, Whiskey and Beer Festival, Brief Encounters: the Remix and to LTJ Bukem.

A special thank you to our amazing sponsors: Maker’s Mark, who made even non-bourbon believes turn over a new barrel and to Whistler Brewery’s Brook Cairns, for being a wealth of information and fun!

_ONE4356 _ONE4332 IMG_0509

And, of course, a big ‘ol peachy southern kiss goes to Lauren Mote and the team at The Refinery for not only hosting us but introducing us to their homemade preserves and bitters, feeding us their locally sourced flatbreads and delectably topped crostinis and showing us how to live a fabulously refined life!

Yelp's Stirring Things Up Finale at H Street Country Club!

Posted by Tara Lewis

Last night, the DC Yelp Elite squad was in full effect at H Street Country Club, for the final round of Yelp's Stirring Things Up cocktail competition! Good thing the Elite squad came thirsty...per usual!

This time, five winning bartenders from the first and second rounds of competition went head to head with their original recipe cocktails to determine who would win the Dekuyper MixMaster Challenge in Washington, DC and move onto the national competition in New Orleans. Oh yea, and score $1,000 while they were at it!

Hstreet3

And what better place for a competition than H Street Country Club?! With indoor putt-putt upstairs, pool tables and skee ball machines, this place understands the marriage between competition and alcohol consumption! When yelpers were not walking through the webs of cheese stretching from their piping hot quesadillas, or shoveling loads of guacamole in their faces, they were sipping on samples of the winning cocktails.

Hstreet2

Although the competition was fierce, only one winner would reign triumphant. A panel of judges that included media mavens, a Dekuyper executive, a local mixologist phenom and Elite yelper, Kate C thought long and hard about their decision. And how could they not, with such fantastic drinks: the Southern 'Rita's peachy accents, the Middle Finger's refreshing taste (and accompanying choreographed dance performance), the Scarlet Letter's southern charm, the Kentucky623's apple-licious finish and the sweet warmth of the Autumn Bicycle Ride.

Hstreet4

At the end of the evening, bartender Jeremy L was victorious, with his drink the Autumn Bicycle Ride, which provided a seasonal walk down memory lane for those who enjoyed it so much! Congratulations to Jeremy and best of luck in New Orleans!

Until next time, SYOY folks!

Yelp MSP Open Party: Bubble and Squeak @ The Soap Factory

Posted by Sarah Peterson

About 300 yelpers made their way to The Soap Factory on Saturday to partake in Yelp MSP's first Open Party! Yeah, thanks right, for the first time ever in the Twin Cities, we hosted a party that wasn't just for the Elites! And how fun it was! It was a pARTy to remember (or maybe not, depending on how often you frequented the bar), so let's highlight all the mingling, mixers and munchies we were treated to!

Our bellies were filled by a lovely, upscale spread by Chowgirls, rockingly fresh pizza by HomeMade Pizza Company, the best-ever hummus from Holy Land, and the kick-ass Angie's Kettle Corn. We quenched our thirst with Crispin Cider and Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka, Rain Organic Vodka and bourbon from Sazerac Liquors. Were were treated to some great eye candy by Chicks on Sticks, The Soap Factory's current exhibit, and Ms. Pac Man and an old-school photobooth provided by Summit Amusement. All the while Jonathan Ackernam spun fabulous beats. A big gracias to Adam Turman for donating postcards to those who donated to Free Arts Minnesota.

Thanks to all our sponsors and to all the yelpers for being a part of Yelp MSP's first Open Party. Can't wait for the next!

East Bay Elite Prom at Berkeley Doubletree and Hornblower Cruises!

Posted by Ligaya T

This past Friday, Yelp Elites and guests relived their prom, or in some cases attended it for the first time, at the East Bay's Off Like a Prom Dress party blowout! Yelpers from all over the Bay area arrived at Berkeley's Doubletree Hotel for a spiked punch cocktail reception glammed up in 80's spandex, beautiful silk dresses, black tuxes, mink stoles (yes, we said mink), corsages, and other fabulous finery, to dance the night away.

Sassy Moresass Cutecouple Boatwhat

Yelpers like Gwen H and Betty H feasted upon Doubletree's spread of dreamy chocolate mousse, delectable raspberry tartlets, pea soup, tiny pulled pork sandwiches, and other heavenly bites, while grooving to the DJ's beats. Jamie L couldn't get enough of the red and white wines from Bear Flag Wine, while Grace L raved about fruity sparkling Nuvo. Marsha W and Naomi K stuck to the kickin' Jose Cuervo and Blue Ice Vodka margaritas. As the Doubletree dance floor began to fill up with boogieing folks, "inadverdent prom twins" Debbie L and Trina A posed among a slew of other yelpers, for PROM PORTRAITS with camera savvy Connie C.

Bubbles Sassw Danceparty Nuvo

Once all guests had arrived, yelpers made their way onto the sunset lit Hornblower, where guests were able to sample a mouth watering cheese spread and decadent chocolate fountain, in between lining up at the bar for delightful pink Nuvo cocktails. As the Hornblower set sail on its moonlit cruise, baby blue clad DJ extraordinaire Ruggy J stirred the crowd into pure prom mayehm with a killer line-up that had Joshua L doing the butterfly, and yelpers Bill B and Meg T - breaking it down to a chorus of whistle and hollers. As the Hornblower glided across the moon graced water, Keane L and others were able to stand on the Hornblower's stunning dock and marvel at the glittering of city lights.

Choco Ruggywhat Sweet Happy

Belting out Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Want to Have Fun," and grinding to Next's "Too Close," the dance floor was packed with yelpers busting out their fiercest dance moves. The music only stopped briefly throughout the energetic sea bound voyage, in order to to honor the crowning of the dapper Prom King - Steve N, and lovely Prom Queen - Jenn N. The beautiful couple led the dance floor's last dance, which proceeded to evolve into an epic Journey sing-along.

Queen Joshw Ang Red

With the Hornblower back at dock, yelpers kicked off their heels and loosened their ties - and made their way into the star filled night, rocking huge grins on their faces and carrying the famous Doubletree chocolate chip cookies in hand. It was definitely one prom to remember!

Yelp Bike Party at Cycles of Change APC

Posted by Ligaya T

Bike enthusiasts and supporters of Cycles of Change APC came out on bike, foot, and car to celebrate the third anniversary of the nonprofit community bike shop in Alameda!

Residents in and around Alameda Point enjoyed slices of cheese pizza from Rotten City Pizza in Emeryville, creamy delights from Scream Sorbet (which you can find at farmer's markets all over the Bay), and family-friendly imbibes from Julie's Coffee and Tea in Alameda.

Bike-powered music and entertainment came as a courtesy from Rock the Bike, an innovative Berkeley bike advocacy and performance group. However, it wasn't a solo effort--Paul (aka Fossil Fuel) and Mafa rocked in on the mic and maracas while attendees took turns cycling on the bike-powered sound system.

Since 2007, Cycles of Change APC has provided an open space for members of the Alameda Point and greater Alameda community to work on their bike and shop for affordable refurbished bicycles. Attendees filled out surveys and volunteered to host bike drives, since the organization relies on bike donations to refurbish for retail.

Cycles of Change APC youth employees Will Haskins and Ebony Smith shared moving stories about how working at the shop gave them confidence and fulfillment in helping out customers.

During the course of the day, attendees checked out bikes, played air hockey, got a tour of the shop, and had a great family fun day in Alameda! Find more photos here.

An incredible Atlanta Party? It Ain't Nothin' but a Yelp Thang, baby!

On October 1, all of Atlanta was invited to the hippest hottest Yelp Atlanta event to date. Ambient + Studio rolled back their doors and let Yelp Elites, newbies, plus ones, and former lurkers in to their gorgeous studio space. With Yelper-contributed photography of graffiti projected on their large cyc wall, it was the perfect spot to celebrate the urban street culture of Atlanta. Let's just say that October has a lot to live up to if this is how we start it off!

You can't have a Yelp party without great food, and 7 different local restaurants provided a bevy of options for yelpers to nosh on. Mike Y spent the majority of the party around the Crawfish Shack table and Lisa B finally got to try out Sublime Doughnuts. Other highlights included the hummus from Olive Bistro, tomato bisque from Fresh to Order, Yogurberry's frozen yogurt, freshly popped corn from the Popcorn Lady, and mac and cheese from Mary Mac's. So many options!

Newbie Claude L has a date planned with Savida Sangria in the very near future after sampling their red and white pre-mixed sangrias, and Jada G found the Stunna Liqueur to be "great comfort, as it made me feel so warm on the inside." Erin D was one of many who used her new Yelp shot glass for more than a little bit of Maker's Mark.

When Royal Flush Dance Crew hit the floor the party really got going: even Ivan S busted out some killer moves. DJ Christian Weaver was up in the booth spinnin' old school favorites while Atlanta Photography got some priceless (and occasionally inappropriate shots) in a freight elevator turned photo booth. All while LeahandMark.com and Valerie O of Tot Model Photography were making sure there was photographic evidence of all the shenanigans happening on the dance floor. Raney O'Keefe and Kelvin Myers provided brought their makeup skills to up the hotness even further.

Yelp's Summer Sunset at Salty's on the Columbia!

Posted by Don Bourassa

Yelp got some Elites lei’d on Thursday night at Salty’s on the Columbia! Over 100 Yelp Elites and their guests bid a fond farewell to Summer ’09 while sipping delicious cocktails made with locally-distilled New Deal Vodka, imbibing on delicious craft Ninkasi brews, and chowin’ down on an incredible spread of the famous Salty’s fare.

Spread1 Bar

During a week filled with early-fall cold and rainy days, the fates smiled on Portland’s Yelp Elite as the skies opened up and the sun came out for a gorgeous evening on the shores of the mighty Columbia River. The Salty’s crew was 100% on top of everything, so when Cortney R and her man arrived early, the food was ready and the drinks were already flowing.

People1 Barcrowd1

The theme for the evening was Summer Sunset at Salty's, to celebrate the end of an amazing summer and enjoy one last shindig outside before the weather turned bad. Everyone came dressed in their Hawaiian best, and the myriad of colors lit up the porch in the warm pink glow of the sunset over the river. Vi B and her man rocked their tropical attire with pride, and Matthew E enjoyed his bright silk lei. Not to be outdone, Ron T busted out the coconut bra and had all the ladies coppin' a feel!

Coppin

As if the amazing view and fun tropical style gear weren't enough, Salty's piled on an incredible spread. Matt M and eternal-plus-one Slo D got busy at the buffet featuring endives with blue cheese spread, baked clams with some delicious goodness, prosciutto-wrapped cantaloupe, coconut shrimp, crab puffs, bruschetta, a cheese platter, shrimp en croute, crab fritters and more!

JennyC Winking 1

To wash down those fantastic eats, Salty's master mixologists Chris and Linda poured up some Salty Hot Monkey spicy cocktails, New Deal Vodka Sunsets, and some refreshing Summer Fizz drinks. For those inclined towards the hops, the Ninkasi Total Domination IPA and Spring Reign summer ale were flowing like water. Needless to say, Joe M and Jeannie J were happy as a clam with their drinks.

Buttons Food1

Did the goodness stop with the amazing food and drink? Heck no! Yelpers tried their luck at the Elite Raffle, and some well-fated folks walked away with some 22's of Ninkasi, tickets to the Clumsy Lovers show and a 1-week Anniversary Pass at the Doug Fir, tickets to the upcoming Ray Manzarek show at the Crystal Ballroom, and more! And for everyone, a classic-cool vintage Yelp 2525 lunch box! All in all, it was a great way to send the summer off in style, as only the Yelp Elite Squad can.

Sunset1

Special thanks go out to Salty's on the Columbia, Linda, and her incredible staff for putting together a top-notch event. We can't wait to come back for the amazing 80-item Sunday seafood brunch! A huge debt of gratitude to New Deal vodka and Ninkasi Brewing for sponsoring our little shindig. And mad propers to Hilary B for helping out and Andrew C for snappin' photos. And as always, the biggest of all thank you to Portland Yelp Elite Squad. The best Elite Squad a Community Manager could ask for.

And hey, if you don't believe us, check out the reviews and photos!

Until next time, SYOY!

Dallas Yelptoberfest 2009!

Posted by Nikki B

A monsoon thunderstorm didn't stop Dallas Elites from partying like full blooded Germans for Yelptoberfest 2009! The Ginger Man hosted our rowdy Squad by giving us the entire upstairs area and provided a laid-back atmosphere to kick start the month with clinks of toasting beer steins.

667510557_usfCB-M 667517735_Rn5FQ-M 667522052_7ME24-M 667525515_s6bZE-M

The Ginger Man kept the Elites' tummies full with two kinds of Spaten beer - yes, two! The lager and Oktoberfest were both delicious, as were the free-flowing merlot and chardonnay wines. In fact, the Elite Squad was so thirsty, the servers just started delivering pitchers and bottles! To complement the Germantastic drinks, grilled bratwursts with sauerkraut and bite-sized fluffy pretzels with mustard were served buffet-style.

A few were brave and donned Oktoberfest garb (including Kevin and myself, in classic lederhosen), which got more than a few stares from regular patrons. After the rain and wind gave way, everyone moved to the outdoor upstairs patio to enjoy the cool breeze and mingle. Raffle prizes were award to two Elites, Rachael M and Megan M, courtesy of CONTACT Crisis Line...pairs of tickets to The Great Culinary Escape!

And of course, there were the Elite lunchboxes. Everyone's faces lit up like holiday lights when they saw what the Yelptastic lunch boxes had inside...indeed, the rumors of Yelp monkeys are true. Go see for yourself!

Danke!

Yelpesque!

Last night the luscious London Elite squad got down and decadent at The Peacock, Clapham Junction's newest burlesque and cabaret club, for a frisky night of feather ruffling fun!

Adorned in boas, feathers, and ruffles, the event was filled with maximum tail feather shaking enjoyment as Elites embarked upon a classy evening of champagne, cocktails, and cabaret.

The exclusive event began with a flute of complementary champagne upon entry, and cocktails like the Yelpesque and Yelpy Mule were shakin' like a Polariod picture up at the bar. Elites also helped themselves to sweet treats scattered around candle lit tables to sugar coat the night.

The evening's entertainment featured Rayguns Look Real Enough, who performed a pop mash-up bringing back everything from sexy to Backstreet. After refreshing the Fresh Prince rap, Tisha B and Melanie B graced the stage to challenge whether milkshakes or humps truly take the cake. Next up, crooner David Martini loosened up the likes of Sam F and Esther B who ended up can-caning the night away. It was instant amore!

Endless thanks to our gracious hosts at The Peacock, and all of the lively (and fully clothed) entertainment.

Speaking of shakin' like a Polaroid picture, check out the photographic evidence of decadence taken by Joe Upton HERE. And read the reviews for the revelry round-up HERE.

We'd tell you more, but what happens at Yelpesque stays at Yelpesque! You'll just have to come along next time to dish up all the decadence for yourself.

Until then, keep it classy London!

Yelp Brooklyn Has a Burger Bash at Bushwick Country Club!

Posted by peter d.

On Wednesday night, Brooklyn's Elite Squad came out for a backyard BBQ at Bushwick Country Club! The mouth-watering smell of charcoal filled the bar as Kyle H and crew got the coals hot enough to grill up what Liz C called "succulent slabs of sauce-slathered, scarlet-tomato festooned, medium-rare magic meat." Picture 8

Picture 2

He'll be competing next week against the likes of Bobby Flay, Spike Mendelsohn, and the people behind DumontBurger, Shake Shack and more in the Blue Moon Burger Bash, so wish him luck!

Picture 3

Harpoon Brewery hooked up a whole lot of their best brew, and Jameson Irish Whiskey joined the party and kicked the night off right! Those of us who had a bit too much fun ended up here...

A HUGE thanks to John and Heather of Bushwick Country Club for welcoming us into their place and showing us a great time! With that big, beautiful backyard, Buck Hunter and even a photobooth, this won't be the last time yelpers take the edge off at this bar.
