Silicon Valley Elites Get Pumped Up at Club One Fitness!

Posted by Connie Chang

Silicon Valley Elites and guests turned up the fun on the evening of Saturday, August 22nd at our biggest Elite Event of the summer in San Jose! Club One Fitness was transformed into the hottest venue at Santana Row, where under one roof (and on the roof), we brought together yelptastic food, drinks, fun and entertainment.

Guests enjoyed food tastings from Pizza Antica, Amber India and Diet-to-Go, and also imbibed drinks from Vintage Wine Merchants, Mansard Champagne, Villa San Juliette Winery, Saké2me, Taylor's Tonics, Honest Tea, Pasión Tequila and Ed Hardy Vodka.

Inside the spa lounge, massage therapists provided chair massages, and a few lucky guests were pampered with full body massages inside the spa's relaxing treatment rooms.

Not one, but two DJs were on deck to provide guests with music to chill out to, and get down with. As the sun was setting and giving way to a starry night sky, many were up on the rooftop lounge dancing to the house and hip hop beats.

Photo fun was had by many, who piled into the photobooth from PhotoWorks Interactive, as you can see here. More action was captured by our awesome official photographer of the evening, Ian L, and special guest photographer Henry L also took amazing shots of the event.

Huge thanks goes out to Stephanie, Paul and the rest of the incredible crew at Club One for hosting a fun-filled event!

Yelp Seattle Gets A Taste of Georgetown!

Posted by Katie Scharer

Last Thursday night, Seattle Yelpers and their guests came out in great numbers to experience one hell of a party (if we do say so ourselves) or Yelp Seattle's Open Party: Taste of Georgetown at The Engine Room @ Georgetown Studios.

The Engine Room, which sits next to the Old Rainier Brewery was the place to be... just ask one of the almost 500 Yelpers who came out to the party, to experience products, food, and beverage from some of Seattle's most beloved businesses!

3866146733_ed1a47b1dd 3866148993_1466767355 3866151577_a11b0bbf40

Georgetown Liquor Company provided the masses with some amazing noshage, consisting of their infamous Capt. Nemo Sandwich, the Darth Reuben, arugula artichoke dip, and crispy baked polenta. Kauai Family Restaurant brought the goods: Kalua pork sliders, to be exact... and there's no doubt they were a crowd favorite. "The one pork slider I had was awesome.  So moist and tender," claimed Aaron E. Kukuruza Gourmet Popcorn was definitely another fan favorite, with their delicious generous samples! Just ask Jeffrey S, who calls their's "the most incredible multi-flavored popcorn you've ever had in your life (never thought I'd say that about popcorn)."

Two Tartes Catering supplied delicious dips and spreads, amazing cheesey breads, and delicious tarts, Hallava Falafel owner Rick rocked the party something fierce when he rocked the walk- up window with tasty, generous samples of shwarma and falafel. Ohh, the shwarma...

3866309506_6c175c2b37 3865555711_a4ca9807fe 3866339706_1eda36660d

For dessert, Seattle’s beloved Trophy Cupcakes (or dinner) provided hungry Yelpers with over 1,100 mini cupcakes. Red Velvet, chocolate, blueberry, and other delicious flavors made for the perfect dessert. Andrew from Claudio Corrallo chatted with Yelpers while he sampled the delicious high-end chocolate. The legendary 5 star stellar Helle Salon provided Yelpers with product samples and  while Bacon (yes, Bacon) and crew passed out samples of Bacon Salt.

Maker's Mark and Honest Tea cocktails were shaken (not stirred) by the amazing Shake Bartenders, who served up Georgetown Peaches, Kentucky Lemonades, and Summer Breeze cocktails all night long. Honest Tea and Pulp Catering provided lots more to drink in the form of teas, juices and smoothies. A huge thanks goes out to Cody, Elise, Tim, Craig and crew for making these delicious beverages possible!
Hometown favorites Schooner Exact, Georgetown Brewing Company, Trade Route Brewing, and Full Throttle Bottles brought the beer in masses. Yelpers imbibed delicious local, handcrafted brews that flowed (like water- no really) throughout the evening.

3866339950_162401cd6e 3864390374_fef92d00c7 3865555849_669e60bbb7

Thanks goes out to all the fabulous Seattle businesses who participated in The Taste of Georgetown! The evening would not have been possible without each and everyone of you!

Thanks to the insanely talented, amazing DJ Won M for spinnin' tracks, late into the night, Helen W for providing the beautiful floral arrangements, and for snappin’ photos at the Yelp photo booth, to Womanipura: Lily S and crew for providing us with amazing entertainment after dark, and to Ryan B and Henry L for taking photos and for Pedersen’s Rentals for providing tables.

Yelpers Had a Ball at the Bossanova Ballroom Bash!

Posted by Don Bourassa

As yelper Tamara K so succinctly put it: “Holy Yelpoly, Bossanova Man!” Moe than 400 yelpers came out in force last night for Portland’s biggest Yelp event ever: Yelp’s Ballroom Bash at the Bossanova Ballroom!

Bbash1 Bbash2

Photos by spcilk

Portland’s Yelp Elite Squad and guests came out en masse and enjoyed a special V.I.P. hour from 6 to 7 p.m.. Clare M and her motley crew enjoyed delicious sandwich slices by East Side Deli, while Anna B dug on some fantastic samples of Hot Lips Pizza, all while getting warmed up by the tunes of DJ Saltfeend. Chris L and Don D were quick to hit the Ninkasi Total Domination IPA from Eugene, which was flowing like water, and Joe M was surprised by how good the Maker’s Mark, Hornitos Plata and Honest Tea cocktails were!

At 7 p.m. the floodgates opened and the Yelp community at large joined the already warmed up Elites to get the Ballroom Bash going in earnest. Yelpers like Danni D enjoyed a second round of Hot Lips Pizza, while a crowd gathered in anticipation of the unleashing of a HUGE batch of amazing chocolate cupcakes from Cupcake Jones, which Stephanie G enjoyed thoroughly.  Laura G and friends hit up the Reversed Lens Photography photo-booth to costume up and get their photos taken, pro-style.

Group-Booth1 Couple-booth

As the room quickly filled up with smiling faces, the fervor escalated to sheer giddiness as Pine State Biscuits made their grand entrance armed with a smorgasbord of biscuits and gravy. Needless to say, the cupcakes and biscuits went fast. Food firmly in hand, yelpers enjoyed spinning the Red Cross preparedness prize wheel and entering to win awesome gift certificates from great local restaurants.

As if the food and booze weren’t enough, quite a few lucky yelpers like JT, Lorri E, Samantha O and their guests walked away with amazing raffle gifts courtesy of Ninkasi (bottles of Tricerahops), Hornitos (bottle of the Hornitos Plata), Maker’s Mark (bottles of delicious bourbon), Doug Fir Lounge (upcoming World Party, Hope Sandoval, and Works Progress Administration shows) and the Bossanova (tickets to the upcoming Yard Dogs Road Show)! Yelpers walked away with a ton of loot!

Group Fun

With the Ninkasi, Maker’s, Hornitos and Honest Tea streaming full force, it was only a matter of time before DJ Saltfeend’s tunes lit up the dance floor, and even the out-of-towners like Alex S got their groove on. Yelpers also enjoyed playing pool in the billiards lounge and lighting-up in the designated cigar lounge adjacent to the bar. After 3 solid hours of drinking, eating, dancing, posing, smoking and playing pool, it was time to move on… to discount Korean tacos from local favorite KOifusion, who made a special appearance outside the venue to fuel up the drunken, late night crowd. Tacos firmly in hand, the crowd descended upon Rontoms for a raging after-party that went late into the night.

All in all, one of the best events to come out of Portland in a long time. Big thanks to Bossanova Ballroom, East Side Deli, Cupcake Jones, Pine State Biscuits, Hot Lips Pizza, Reversed Lens Photography, DJ Saltfeend, KOiFusion, Maker's Mark, Hornitos Plata, Honest Tea, The Red Cross – Oregon Trail Chapter, and Doug Fir Lounge! Huge gratitude to Crystal H, Michelle B, and Hilary B for all of the heavy lifting, running around, and hard work putting this together and making it run. And thanks, as always, to the Portland Yelp Elite Squad and the entire Portland Yelp Community for being the best community money can’t buy.

You don’t believe me? Check the reviews and the photos, photos, photos!

Phoenix Yelp Meets Carumba Live!

Yelpers rocked their southwest flavor at Cafe Carumba on Thursday August 27th for a kickin' fiesta!  Oh what a night it was... with la música courtesy of the Nick Heward Trio, all kinds of comida de Chef Cynthia, and drink specialties including Yelp'ritas (Hpnotiq-infused margaritas), Carumba-ritas, Dos Equis on draft, and wine.  ¡Ay dios mio! Cafe Carumba's staff went above and beyond, and the Hpnotiq girls were also in da' house handing out bevs and schwag.  Jared S was the lucky winner of the raffle - he scored himself a pair of tickets to Phoenix Cooks.  All in all, this was one unfortgettable noche!

Dallas Elites Picnicked in the Yard!

Posted by Nikki B

Rain AND shine, 100 Dallas Elites stuck out the gnarly weather in the yard of Lee Harvey's for a picnic, Yelp style! I didn't hear any complaints though...but I'm thinking the free-flowing Lone Star and Buffalo Trace whiskey had something to do with that!

632380902_UygYW-M 632382502_uYGC2-M 632381880_AynYj-M  632382912_9V6vh-M

Yelpers munched on quesadillas, onion rings, burgers, wings and fries (and more!) from a buffet that never once went empty - there was even food left over! And once everyone's tummies were nice and full, we lit one of the sizzlin' fire pits and brought out the s'mores, complete with fancy s'mores forks. Even the dogs in attendance had a few bites of goodness!

If they weren't at the buffet, the bar or the fire pit, you could catch the competitive souls playing ladder ball and horseshoes in the corner of the yard. Dallas Elites really know how to throw those balls around!

Once Mother Nature stepped in and interfered with sprinklers, everyone moved to the covered porch and met all the new faces that came out for their first event. That's when we threw out the raffle for bacon band-aids and a Pimp My Cubicle box set! Suh-weet!

Check out the best of Dallas Elite faces and what they had to say about it!

Yelpers Sip & Savor @ Grape Expectations Wine Bar

Posted by Mariah C

Do yelpers have a thing for wine, tasty morsels, and good company?  Well that's a silly question! Metro Detroit's Elite Squad and guests gathered together for a special sort of soiree at Grape Expectations Wine Bar.

The wine flowed freely, the conversation seemed to flow just as easily, and in between, there were bites of bruschetta spreads, miniature pizza full of flavor, paninis, fruit and cheese. The options didn't end there -- for those not wine-inclined, the staff mixed up cocktails and served up some top-notch beer as well.

Darin E recounted his trip to Rothbury, Tom F figured he may have found a new date spot, and Nina B won two Detroit Passports to the Arts (DP2A)!

Since it was yelper Christine R's birthday, the evening was topped off by cupcake confections from Just Baked - consumed only after a special round of birthday singing ensued!

If you couldn't be there for the fun, check out some quick pics, as well as recaps & reviews of the night!

Yelping in (Stars and) Stripes!

Posted by Kevin L
DC yelpers reached into the recesses of their closets, rummages through old trunks, and possibly hit up their local thrift stores to come down to the Washington Harbor in full stripey regalia last night for our Yelp's Glad to be Plaid Elite Event at Agraria Farmers and Fishers. And what a perfect night it was to be enjoying the spate of temperate weather on the gorgeous outdoor patio, too!

 _MG_0695 _MG_8318 _MG_8379 _MG_8314

Not only did yelpers get their nibble on at this restaurant concept that's owned by a consortium of farmers, supplying deliciously fresh ingredients for all of the bountiful menu offerings, local master mixologist, Jon Arroyo, put his talents to work in crafting up some slurptastic (and pretty sloshtacular) tiki drinks featuring Cruzan rum!

Elites enjoyed refreshing Peak Organic beer and sampling bites like garlic hummus with grilled Navajo bread, El Diablo pizza, artisan pepperoni pizza, baby cheeseburgers with Tillamook cheddar, 'Double Dip' thick-cut sweet onion rings, walleye tacos, and more. Not to mention those dangerously smooth Potted Parrots (made with Cruzan rum, orange curacao, orange juice, a bit of lemon and mint sprigs) and daiquiris.

Be sure to check out what the sunset soiree-goers had to say about the evening's festivities, as well as scoping out the snapshots captured by our photographer, Jim Auerbach. P.S. Did you score one of those adorable yelpy sugar cookies on your way out the door?

Until next time, yelpers... SYOY!

Legends of Rock Elite Party

Posted by Leon C
Are yelpers Rock Stars?

Yes they are!

What a way to spend a Monday night. London Elites showed just how awesome they are by stepping up and playing their favourite rock tunes in front of their fellow yelpers on Guitar Hero World Tour. Whether you were a guitar Goddess like Molly K, drumming like a Neil B deity or smashing a singing solo like Chris R, the entertainment levels were through the roof. The entire bar rendition of Living on a Prayer will live long in the memory. I’m not sure if Monkey Chews in north London has ever seen a night like this.

Molly                Chris r              Eric

It was great to see so many new and old faces. The sheer enthusiasm to take part was fantastic. The likes of Nishi S, Chris O and Tisha B went for it like true guitar legends even though they had never played before. That is true Yelp spirit in our book.

 Matt 300 Laura 300

A big thank you is bestowed upon Mekhong our drink sponsor for giving us all the Dutch courage to play. I could of supped on the Sweet Solada till the cows came home. (Do they ever come home?) Also, Yelp love is beamed out to Katherine, Jimmy and Alexis, the Monkey Chews team that kept us watered and fed throughout. You guys seriously rock!

Mek                             Mel

Make sure you check out the reviews of the event to see what people had to say. If you want the HD version of the night, check out the snazzy snaps taken by Sarah S and Joe.

In the darkened surroundings of Monkey Chews bar, yelpers proved that they are true Legends of Rock.

Yelp Elites Say: "Feliz Cumpleaños" to Bar Ferdinand!

Posted by Monica

Last Friday, yelp elites kicked off their weekend with the happy hour essentials: margaritas, sangria, BBQ, and paella. To help celebrate Bar Ferdinand's 3-Year Anniversary, yelpers gathered down on Liberties Walk and caught up friends, both new and old.

Elcamino05  Elcamino09 Elcamino16

Even though rain crashed the scene, elites partied on. Allow Hannah T to elaborate: "Drenching rain? Pffffft. We still had a blast at this fantastic event; we sipped and ate to our heart's content!" With expertly concocted and ever-flowing Juarez Tequila margaritas and red/white wine sangria, party-goers put in minimal wait time to get their next cocktail. In between sips, they snacked heavily on ribs, guacamole tostados, and pulled pork tostados from neighbor, El Camino Real...that is, while they eagerly awaited Chef Michael Thomas' drool-worthy paella.

Elcamino33  Elcamino36 Elcamino47

Once the paella was finished, the clouds parted and the rain took a break so elites could gorge on the gorgeous offering. Sara C raved, "seriously, I need to come back for the paella...the chorizo, mussels, and clams really put it over the top!" Speaking of over the top, Bar Ferdinand pulled out all the stops with the flamenco dancer and band. No better way to say, feliz cumpleaños! Check out more photos on the Yelp Flickr page, read what others had to say and post your own thoughts here, and stay tuned for the next elite event announcement!

Boston Yelpers Glam it Up, Red-Carpet Style!

RedCarpet257 RedCarpet223 RedCarpet274

600 yelpers. 25 food, beauty and bevvie vendors. A live Jazz band. Goody-filled schwag bags. A glammed-out, paparazzi-photo-snapping red carpet. Exhibits featuring sparkling gems, giant hippos, color-drenched butterflies and painstakingly constructed glass flowers. Plus—$3,600 raised for the worthy local charity Project Smile? Why, that's just another Tuesday night in the land of Yelp Boston!

In case you missed it (and where exactly where you?!) the glitteratti of Yelp Boston descended upon The Harvard Museum of Natural History on August 18, 2009 for an evening filled with mouth-watering samples from some of the hottest restaurants in Boston, heat-relieving sips from thirst-quenching liquor sponsors and an entire beauty room to get you red-carpet ready, with aromatherapy, eyebrow threading, makeup makeovers, mini-manicures, hair artistry and skincare demonstrations!

To start off the night, our illustrious Elite Squad got a VIP sneak peek of our fabulous sponsors at 7pm. Ben L's dashing white jacket sure turned some heads, while Ben K and Virginia Su M's vintage attire rocked the fashion house. Melissa M hit the carpet Kennedy-style, with a classic black-and-white number, and we welcomed Yelp Event first-timers: Tyler G, Nate R and Jessie Z!

And just who are these tremazing sponsors who made this night so delicious, so talked-about and so gossip-worthy? How about a little love for the swinging jazz music from selected members of The Beantown Swing Orchestra, nibbles provided by Tantric India Bistro, Poe's Kitchen at The Rattlesnake, Henrietta's Table, Temple Bar, Grafton Street, Gaslight, Masa, Boloco, and Bon Savor, sweets served courtesy of Still River Winery, Sweet & Taza Chocolate. Drinks mixed by Maker's Mark, Domaine de Canton, Narragansett, Honest Tea, Fuze, Sake2Me and SVEDKA, plus made-to-order fruit shakes from b.good. And don't forget all those hot, hot beauty treatments from Salon Red, Kameleon Healing, Naz Kupelian Salon and Rhone Botanicals. From food and cocktails, to pampering and atmosphere-enhancing music, these sponsors went all out,  bringing their A-Game and impressing yelpers far and wide!

But the biggest reward of the night? Gala-goers raised $3,600 for Project Smile, a non-profit organization which donates new and previously owned stuffed animals, coloring books, crayons, small toys and children's reading books for police officers, fire fighters and paramedics to give to children involved in traumatic situations. The money raised at The Red Carpet Gala will help Project Smile reach their goal of providing all emergency responders throughout New England and eventually throughout the nation, with a continual supply of comfort items to help ease the pain and fear of traumatized children.

A bow to The Harvard Museum of Natural History for being our fabulous hosts for the evening and welcoming yelpers new and veteran with open arms! And to those who made this event possible, it's been an honor: Sara S, Jane K, Peter D, Miriam W, Chantelle K, Kevin L and Andrea R...much love from Yelp Boston for coming up to the Hub!

Yelp LA's Clothing Swap at the W Westwood

Posted by Dawson S

Yelpettes came out in force last night for the first Yelp + W Clothing Swap in Los Angeles. While runners sorted and hung everyone's fabulous wares, ladies mixed and mingled poolside at the W Westwood with co-hostesses Marcy Medina from Women's Wear Daily, LA Times stylist, Melissa Mahsaysay, and OK Mag Editor, Jennifer Birn, enjoying their complimentary Green Garmento eco bags, signature PAMA pomegranate liqueur cocktails, the W's passed hors d'oeuvres and a Bliss massage station, not to mention, fellow yepettes' company.

Yelp+w clothing swap collage 1

By the time the swapping got underway, everyone was relaxed (and a lil' tipsy!) making the try and trade effortless fun as ladies consulted one another and piled into poolside cabanas doubling as fitting rooms to snag some great new-to-you finds. The event ran an hour over as everyone buzzed, elated with their new threads and accessories and asking when the next swap would be! All of the clothes left at the end of the evening were donated to Women Helping Women.

What happens when you combine one of Austin's storied music venues (and home to some new organic small-batch food offerings), some PBR, Rain Organic Vodka, Mulderbosch Rose' and Austin's Elvis Costello tribute band (The Costellophones, natch)? Some serious shenanigans involving a photo booth (from Elvis' perspective!), and a room full of pogo-ing, happy, real-time yelpers!

Yelp LA's VIP Preview of Moo Dae Po II

Posted by Dawson S

LA yelpers love their KBBQ and the crowds came out tonight to enjoy Yelp LA's first ever sit-down dinner for nearly 200 yelpers at a soft opening preview of K-Town's latest hot spot, Moo Dae Po II.  The VIP preview party included special guests from Ed Hardy pimpin' Humanity First, reps from the Korean American Coalition welcoming us to K-Town, local restaurant owners promoting the joys of Korean cuisine, and, of course, Moo Dae Po's owner, Brian Chung with the woman who inspires him to share his love of Korean food... his grandmother.

Mdpii collage 1

As bottomless pitchers of beer, cups of Korean fermented rice wine, and endless plates of meat and banchan flowed over fiery grills, the lights went down, the music came up and a club vibe carried us through the night. Thankfully no one got singed on a hot table, but plenty of dancing on chairs went down before the festivities wound to a close in the mid-week wee hours of the eve.

Talk about a Sunday Funday! This past weekend, yelpers dressed up in their brightest whites and headed out to indulge in a relaxing afternoon at Argyll Gastropub for the latest Denver Yelp Elite Event.

Yelpers enjoyed Bloody Marys courtesy of Rain vodka and mimosas while munching on fantastic tastes from the menu at Argyll including their award-winning mac and cheese, Southern Comfort macerated peaches, pub pate, sliders, and, of course, authentic British chips.

Guests also got "framed" by photographer (and new yelper) Demetrius A and several people walked away with tickets to the upcoming Roller Derby Bout courtesy of the Denver Roller Dolls.

Check out the pictures of the event captured by Photography by Demetrius and don't forget to read the reviews if you missed out or want to relive the moments. Until next time, SYOY!

The Good, The Bad And The Yelpy

Posted by Farrah Akhtar

Yee-haw! It was all boots and bandannas on August 14, 2009, as more than 100 Elites and members of the Aurora Picture Show were lassoed up for a western-themed hoedown at Aurora Ranch a.k.a. the Aurora Picture Show video library.

Cowboys and cowgirls got to nosh on an assortment of pies from local favorite Pink's Pizza, warm, buttery popcorn, and cookies, lemon squares and half-baked brownies courtesy of Dessert Gallery's newest location. There to help wash it all down was crisp brew from Saint Arnold Brewing Company, Fuze Beverages and Bridlewood Estate Winery. Getting the gang into a boot scootin' groove was DJ Eddie Spettro spinning country classics from the likes of Hank Williams and David Allen Coe, as black and white Westerns played on flat screens. The Yelp posse also shared a few rounds of poses with the legendary Roy Rogers in the photo booth (including bales of hay and all!). How's that for a campout?!

But the party didn't stop there, y'all. When the event was over, the Squad packed their picnics and moseyed on yonder and across the street to The Menil Collection to enjoy an outdoor flick, "Hi Ho Silver: A Ride Through TV Westerns", part of The Menil and Aurora's summer movies in the park series. Perfect weather + a slammin' mixer + a Western under the stars. Now this is how the West is won!

Be sure to check out yelpers' thoughts on the rootin' tootin' shindig, along with photos!

New York Yelpers Hit the Sand for Yelp's A Beach!

Hot in...so hot in here. Hey, Nelly it was a scorcher and New Yorkers from all five boroughs (and Connecticut!) came out for the event of the season to sweat, sway and scarf down 5-star worthy food and cocktails at Water Taxi Beach this past Saturday afternoon.

Picture 17  Picture 19 Picture 16

The Elites arrived for their VIP hour glistening and pink-faced from the subway ready for some Yelp spray-bottle misting before entering the private beach cove. Abigail M looked ravishing in her bikini and sarong combo while Danny P upped the ante with his (yelp) red shirt and hula skirt -- though the coconut bra looked better on his plus one. Beyond the bodacious beach fashion show, yelpers used their powers of imbibing to test out over 15 different cocktails participating in the NY Spirits Awards "Ultimate Summer Cocktail Competition" that included:

- Pitu Punch
- SoCo Tea
- Herradura Paloma
- No. 126 & Orange V Lemonade
- Tommy Bahama White Sand Citrus, Dark & Ginger and Tropical Moment
- Tanteo Frozen Lemon Zing, Frozen Cocoa Loco and Frozen Tanteo Tropical Margarita Especial
- Leblon Cachaça Banana Batida and Cherry Caipirinha
- VeeV Spa Cooler and Joie de VeeV
- Beija F.U.C. on the Beach

Picture 23 Picture 22 Picture 21

Other excitement: Jamel O. let Andre L. hold his beach pail while he hoola hooped, Diane L. bounced Yelp beach balls over the crowd, Chun L. and Tom C. both flexed some big biceps for some beach babes, Judy K. gnawed on pulled pork sandwiches and vegan soy dogs from Harry's kitchen, Phong-lan H. took a dip in some fancy SPF 30 at the Arbonne sunscreen booth, Elliot W. snagged a yelpified frisbee while Sarah W. got temporary tatted at the charity booth! Phew...that's sure a lot of action during this red hot summer fiesta!

Picture 20 Picture 14 Picture 15

The NY Coalition Against Hunger managed to raise almost $3,000 from our generous Yelpers. This donation works to help fight hunger in New York City by providing:

- 500 lbs of fresh, locally grown produce for low-income New Yorkers
- 41 families with assistance to each obtain $2800 worth of government nutrition benefits
- 27 days of an AmeriCorps national service participant serving at a soup kitchen full-time to address our community's strategic needs

Thanks to the staff at Water Taxi Beach for a feast fit for a Yelp Elite and thanks to all the amazing spirits teams who participated in the competition. Everyone really stepped up their game and left even the most discerning yelper in cocktail heaven.

Peep the photos from Entwined Studio and see what they are saying on talk. Reviews of the event are posted here, feel free to add your two cents if you were in the crowd! If it you weren't...well, where were you? Don't miss the next one!

Now shake that sand out of your pants, here comes September...

OC Yelp Elites Rock their 'Staches Again, but this time...Bigger & Hairier

Posted by Hazel Q

A night at Matador Cantina in Fullerton, all the booze and tacos you can handle, mustached guys and girls all around, fab prizes, and a rockin DJ...all just another Wednesday night in the life of an Orange County yelper.

DSC_5206 DSC_5363 DSC_5217

Yelpers packed the house at The Matador last night for the Return of the 'Stache Bash (you may remember the warm-up for this event back in May). While some mustachioed party-goers opted to stick with the things they knew, like Dos Equis lager and Matador's signature sangria...others got a little adventurous and went for drinks like the Jalapeño Martini or the Mango Dulce.

Those who guessed some mystery celebrity mustaches correctly got a chance to win amazing spa packages from Lux Aveda Salon & Spa or a calming gift pack from Tranquil Tea Lounge. And, of course tacos for everyone, all night long.

DSC_5256 DSC_5420 DSC_5432

All the while the super-talented Joel from Fullerton's own Studio EMP documented the night in style, and you can check out all the pics on Yelp's official Flickr page, and more yelper/shutterbug pics on the YelpOC Flickr Pool. Want even more? Take a look at what yelpers are saying about the shindig on Yelp.

Until next time, SYOY!

Shochu think you know Japanese? Yelp Elites do!

Posted by Don Bourassa

Shochu think you know Japanese? After Wednesday August 12th, Portland’s Elite Squad does! That’s right, 75 of Portland’s finest dressed up like salarymen and took a trip down the rabbit hole to biwa, the inner-SE-side’s own Japanese izakaya, to learn how the Land of the Rising Sun does it, pub style.

Sam W and Akemi I were met at the door with tasters of 4 different sakés from SakéOne, Oregon’s own homegrown saké producer.  Dewey, the man with the plan, schooled Stanley T and Chris L on the finer points of their 91-point rated Organic sakes, as well as their “g” series and a delicious pink plum-juice-infused Momokawa. If Matt M didn’t know a hot gekkeikan from a cold Momkawa before, he does now!

IMG_2754SM IMG_2758SM

Next up were some incredible shochu offerings including SakéOne's Bloodbath cocktail, made with lemon and muddled blackberries, as well as straight shochu over ice. These were set alongside biwa's Ringo, a saké cocktail made with apple cider and bourbon. Lets just say those amazing bartenders were shakin' it all night long, and yelpers like Ana M were digging every sip.

IMG_2809SM IMG_2787SM

As if getting schooled in saké and shochu weren’t enough, the biwa crew busted out with an amazing display of Japanese pub eats such as kimchi kara-age (deep fried kimchi), chijimi (onion pancake), saba nanbanzuke (pickled mackerel with veggies), and a myriad of yakitori: pork belly, chicken, and hangar steak skewers.  Platter after platter, the pub-grub kept coming. And it paired perfectly with the incredible cocktail offerings.

IMG_2792SM Kyle

A huge thanks goes out to Gabe from biwa, for putting the event together from beginning to end - from the amazing food, to the incredible drinks, to the stellar service, it was wonderful. Domo arigato! A major nod to SakéOne and Dewey for showing us why Oregon makes the best saké in the world, and why everyone will soon be clambering for Tombo shochu. Huge thanks to Andrew C, for taking amazing fisheye photos, as always, to my eternal +1 Hilary B, and of course, to the Portland Elite squad. I can’t say it enough. The best elite squad in the nation. This community rules.

Don't believe me? Check out the reviews and photos! The salarymen and salarywomen came out in force!

Until next time…

Vancouver Puts a Twist on the 1950s

Posted by Crystal H

Gee, Richie Cunningham and Lucille Ball would have been proud! Last night, Vancouver Yelp Elites and their guests twisted and shook on back to the 1950s at the Wallflower Modern Diner with Jell-O, the Dirty Dancing Soundtrack, bouffants and all.

  Saraho2 Wallflower Christine

Jell-O shooter recipes were submitted by yelpers with Megan S, Katie F, Raymond O, Barry M and Anita K’s chosen for the evening’s slurping. With creative ingredients thrown in like Raymond O’s green tea and Katie F’s "I Like Strawberries," it’s no wonder why they were the bomb! Prior to the party, these lucky yelpers had their hair teased, sprayed and set into bouffants and curls for the ladies, and greased and slicked back for the gents by the talented East Vanity Parlour

Christy Crowd Desiree-barry-tamara

Between shots, guests sipped on Malibu Rum cocktails reminiscent of a 1950’s dinner party. (Sounded like the Malibu Iced Tea was a fave.) Mixed and mingled with these tasty creations, The Wallflower lived up to its Modern Diner name, serving up meatloaf, hamburger sliders and… oh my, are those veggie corn dogs?

Leslie Corndogs Ainsley Raymond

But wait there’s more! While we nibbled and downed Jell-O, our panel of illustrious judges deliberated on whose recipe was the liveliest, tastiest, best-est! And it was none other than Megan S, wearing a saucy apron, who took home the cake, errr, Malibu Prize Bag and tickets to MusicFest. Raymond O collected a Jell-O mold pack and Barry M scored tickets to Luv-A-Fair at Venue. Very special thanks to Miss 604, Rebecca Bollwitt, Christy and Sophie from East Vanity Parlour, and The Diamond's, Sophie Taverner for their brilliant judging!

Megans Rachael-shots Groupshot Miss_604

Raymond O and Ainsley D kept yelpers camera captivated. You can see all of the bright colours and big hair on our Official Flickr Page and read the reviews.

Philly Elites Get Monochromatic!

Posted by Monica

Despite last night's humidity and heat, Philly elites dolled up in their monochromatic scheme and swaggered over to Apothecary Bar + Lounge for a night filled with contemporary cocktails, Mediterranean delights, and cupcakes galore! Nothing was going to stop these party-goers from enjoying the fine view of Center City from APO's rooftop deck!

Apothecary04 Apothecary52 Apothecary28

With so many new faces, ice-breaker art cards challenged yelpers to find their matching card (affixed to a fellow elite). It even inspired Bill M to post a "Yelp Missed Connection (done to the tune of Craigslist);" best of luck in finding your partner, Bill!

Apothecary14  Apothecary26 Apothecary35

Apothecary's steadfast mixologists prepared Cruzan rum cocktails and bubbly champage drinks with fizzing sugar cubes! Christopher R got to sample all the cocktails, including the crowd favorite blood orange concoction. Even his +1 left a lasting impression, "if you saw the girl double-fisting drinks, she was with me, I'm so proud of her." Sounds like we've got a potential elite!

Apothecary15  Apothecary38 Apothecary12

The overly-generous folks from Leila Cafe provided some serious Mediterranean eats. It was hummus-tabouli-falafel-shwarma-babaganoush galore, but even with such an impressive spread, yelpers still craved more! Thankfully, Cupmakes was on hand, ready to provide the sweets...in the form of mini-cupcakes! A big thank you to all of our sponsors and our fabulous photographer, Ferry, for being a part of such an excellent affair! Read all about the experience here and scope out more of the night's hotties on the Yelp Flikr Page! Oh and don't forget to RSVP for the next elite event on August 21st at Bar Ferdinand and El Camino Real!

Playland-v2 Playland-v3Playland-v4 Playland-v5

Elites, friends and families flocked to El Cerrito's Playland-Not-at-the-Beach to parktake in modern amusements and those of the yesteryear. We're talking skeeball, penny arcade, pinball, magicians, jugglers, face painting and more!

The hot links from Doggie High gave Vanessa F super pinball powers at her first Elite event, though it was Humboldt's Red Nectar Ale that got Kat C going. Local frozen treat It's It, which started at the original Whitney's Playland at Ocean Beach, delighted Linda M and her family, while the Yelp Corn from Piedmont Party that kept Eric B and son arcading it up all evening long. And for those that couldn't partake in the Jello shots, Honest Tea was there to keep the crowds refreshed.

Many thanks to all our sponsors for keeping our thirsts quenched and bellies happy, and most importantly, for supporting the non-profit museum of fun that is Playland! To all the volunteers that performed, help maintain, and shared the history of this unique organization, you have certainly succeed in bringing the wonders to all. This event truly embodied just what yelping's all about: discovering and sharing about cool local businesses.

Miami Elites Roll Out

Posted by Maria Arguello

Yelp Miami's finest came out in full force for the first ever Yelp Miami Bowling Wars at Splitsville in South Miami. Yelpers came out in full force and indulged in eats and drinks pre, during, and post bowling.

Picture 29 Picture 30 Picture 39

Yelpers started the night off with Dragon Berry mojitos and MGD 64. Yelpers noshed on pizzas, black and blue sliders, ruben sandwiches, mini-cheeseburgers, and a variety of sushi rolls including spicy tuna, tiger roll, and the whimsically named beauty and the beast.

Picture 26 Picture 27 Picture 25 Picture 28

No worries, there was a fairy tale end to the night as the Green Mean and Team Awesome added a bevy of players throughout the night and as the teams swelled so did the excitement. Team Awesome might have pulled it off but the Green Mean and the rest of the teams will be bringing it again next year.

Picture 35 Picture 36 Picture 37 Picture 38

A huge thanks to the wonderful, hard working folks at Splitsville, Bacardi, and MGD 64 for some delicious food and libations, and to the always wonderful NefariousGirl aka Jipsy for the photos!

Put the Disco back in Frisco Yelp Elite par-tay!

In the immortal words of Coolio, "Ain't no party like a west coast party, 'cuz a west coast party don't stop," and never has that been more true than the sweaty, sweaty mess of a good time had by all at last nights 2nd annual 'Put the Disco back in Frisco' Elite shindig at The Café! Between delicious Hangar One Vodka tastings, complimentary grub from Blush Wine Bar, and a sweet photo booth courtesy of People in Public (photos posted soon!)... yelpers made sure the dance floor was left sopping wet with an explosion of glorious moden disco!

Brooklyn Yelp Goes to the Ballgame!

Posted by peter d.

Last night NYC Elites trekked out to Coney Island to cheer on the Brooklyn Cyclones! From before BP to after the last out, Brooklyn's best (young and younger) cooled off with the breeze on the Party Deck, enjoying beautiful panoramic views of the water, the Cyclone, the WonderWheel, the sunset and all of Brooklyn.

Picture 3Picture 7

Between Daryl Strawberry Bobblehead Night, a surprise appearance by Sandy the Seagull (the Cyclones mascot) and the Medieval Times duels going on between innings, the night was action-packed with fun beyond just baseball.

Picture 1 Picture 6Picture 4

And of course, nothing beats beer and burgers at a ballgame, especially when there's hot dogs with all the fixins and brownies for dessert as well! A huge thanks goes out to Steve Cohen, the GM of the Cyclones whose hospitality made all this possible! Sure, the Cyclones might have lost this one, but all the more reason to come back to Coney and watch the first-place Mets affiliate win next time!

Yelp Summerfest Hits Chicago!

Yelp toasted the beautiful Chicago summer by inviting yelpers near and far from Chicagoland to join in the biggest celebration of the season: Yelp Summerfest!

Over 3,000 yelpers and guests congregated on a beautiful night at the expansive Irish American Heritage Center (NW side of Chicago) for an evening under the summery stars. Irish eyes were surely smiling as party-goers chipped in to raise funds for the IAHC, which fell victim to an unfortunate robbery a few weeks prior. (Over $2k was raised!)

The Yelp Beer Garden boasted ice cold pours of local brews: Half Acre, Goose Island, Metropolitan Brewing and Two Brothers Brewing in addition to Guinness 250 (anniversary brew), Crispin Cider, Sierra Nevada, Harpoon, Fat Tire (and Skinny Dip!), Magic Hat #9, Sam Adams, Shiner Bock, and Trumer Pils. Goose Island Sodas were also on tap (grown up root beer floats with Navana liqueur and Dark & Stormy with Ten Cane Rum, yes please!), and  Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka (introducing the new peach flavor!) kept guests buzzin' in addition to organic Rain Vodka cocktails. Whoa! Hangover cures Vitamin Water, Monster Energy, AMP energy drinks, and Gold Peak Iced Tea helped to wash it all down...

Feeding the yelping masses were hometown favs: La Gondola, HomeMade Pizza Co., Ranalli's Andersonville, Domino's Pizza (click for video!), Chicago's Dog House, Cevapcici Chicago, Batter Blaster, Pastries Not Potatoes, Suvan's Bakery & Cafe, Il Giardino Del Dolce, Nice Cream, Baking For The Taking, and fresh popped "yelp-corn!"

Actionbooth shots made yelpers "1-2-3, jump!, and 312Photobooth had 'em get all snuggly for some straight up hilarious strips. Resident Yelp photogs Dan Gin and Matt Ginger also captured some candid madness, and Toast & Jam DJs spun some mad beats all night long (props to the Flash Mob, too!).  RockStar Live Band Karaoke rocked some screechin' live band karaoke under the tent, ComedySportz "reffed" the party with trivia, games and improvalicious fun, City Bags Club Crew providing the cornhole craziness, Balloonbiker.com (yelp's own Jami K), produced some fantastic balloon creations, decor and "Yelp peeps" and Urban Lotus Yoga heated things up with a HOT fire flame dancing performance.

Reviews are posted here, feel free to add your two cents if you were in the crowd! If it you weren't...well, where were you? Don't miss the next one!

Onwards and upwards, thanks to all that came out!

London Elites Like a G With Their Tea @ The East End Thrift Store

Posted by Lizzie G

Talk about a Mad Hatters Tea Party! This Elite Event will be one to remember as Yelp’s movers and shakers sipped on Juniper Green Gin and tonics all afternoon in the back streets of east London at The East End Thrift Store.

 DSC_1823 DSC_1809 DSC_1829 DSC_1918

What could be better than enjoying this British tradition with a slice of Rinkoff’s Barkeries moist carrot cake? Or how about their chocolate cup cakes? I definitely saw Alan J and April C devour one or two of them! As the party took off the smooth tasting gin and tonics was flowing thanks to Alex behind the bar.

Melanie B wowed us with her vintage inspired dress and I saw many a Yelper take advantage of make-up artist Laura Glovers’ talents.  Nicola Emmie Woodvine AKA Woody styled London’s Elite with some vintage inspiration and I think I saw cheeky chops Harry and John sneak a teacup of gin and nosh on some cake as they helped serve our Elites!

DSC_1856 DSC_1852 DSC_1902

The venue looked like an adorable village fete had landed in east London thanks to the creative touch of Becky and her terrific helpers at A Most Curious Party. Her selection of teapots and cake stands make the mind boggle with delight.  This G & Tea Party was perfected with the melodic sounds of Colin and Jim.

A special thank you to Leo Scott for being Mr. Snappy all night and taking some spectacular photos. Take a look and see just how much fun everyone had!

Make sure you check out the reviews to get all the gossip of the day!

Yelp London scores a hat trick of Elite party goodness with this crakin’ afternoon of civilized gin drinking and cake munching.
