Relax, Relate, Release
was the theme of last night's LA Yelp Elite Party as many a keen reviewer took a load off with massages, facials, DNA hair stylin, rejuvenating sessions and manicures galore! The event was held at Exhale Mind Body Spa and it is one amazing spa, lemme tell ya! It's gorgeous, inviting and with a little help from our friends at Trove Wine, the party was a real hiccup...oh sorry, hit!

Img_8776The usual suspects like Judy W, Ericka L and Carrie R were in the house, along with cool Valley gals, Natalie G and Shannon F. Also part of the festivites were cuties Heather R and Christa C, John J who busted quite the move on the yoga dance floor and newcommer Evan J who quite enjoyed his first elite event! Other party crew highlights included Darren Y, Fran D and Winfield H, Edgar C and Sarah F and a whole bunch of boxed wine lovin yelpers like Frank K and Caroline Y...and of course, this klassy broad (Cuz no challenge is too small for that LA Community Manager!)

Img_9016Big thanks go out to our new friends, Susan and Ben at Exhale Mind Body Spa for helping us put this pamper party together and additional thanks goes out to Metromint water for keeping us all nice and hydrated, awesome discounts from Cozmocard, and of course to Trove wines. For more blackmail, click here, plus don't miss contributions from Carrie R and Joan S!

Now for those of you who missed this oh so fun event because you weren't elite, what say we do something about that! Click here for more info on the awesomeness that is the Yelp Elite Squad!

Look forward to seein ya all at the next one!

Ciao,
Stephy S

Yelp Explores Creativity

Don't ask me why or how, but somehow I got tapped to be one of the San Francisco Notables for Creativity Explored's 3rd Annual Portrait Auction. I have to say, it was sort of exciting, I mean, having a photo taken is one thing, but an actual painting?

CE is about helpiNish_creativity_exploredng adults with mental disabilities use creative expression, almost as a form of therapy. The results are gorgeous on many levels, and it's one of my favorite charities in the Bay Area.

The event was last night (April 12th) at 111 Minna. Phil M and I showed up around 7:15pm to find the gallery already alive. Look over there, it's Beth Lisick. Hey, Marcus Shelby! Yeah, it was definitely cool to see so many cool local celebrities out for a good cause. And it certainly was cool seeing troubadour Jonathan Richman perform an acoustic set; I just went on Amazon and ordered some of his albums I was that impressed, he was even more of a hoot than when he was in There's Something About Mary.

Sadly, I didn't get to meet Nita, the woman who painted my painting, but I'm planning on stopping into CE in the Mission to see her at work on her next masterpiece, and I encourage you to do the same thing. Check out some of the other artists online, and get some of their work! CE Director Amy Taub is such a generous spirit (and a self-confessed yelp junkie) , as our all the staff and volunteers involved with the organization.

Since I am posting this on the Yelp Blog, a personal highlight of the night was bumping into Josh Kornbluth and him saying to me, "Oh Yelp, cool, I dig you guys." I was speechless, despite my usually garrulous self. Oh, and who won the final bid on the Nish portrait? Amidst some heaving bidding, a certain Kristen N came out on top, go figure!

Yelpers' Night at the Roxie

On Wednesday, April 11th, the Yelp Elite took in a private screening of the cult classic Freeway, pretty much a modern retRoxie_128elling of Little Red Riding Hood. Except Reese Witherspoon plays a white-trash version of her and Kiefer Sutherland is the Big Bad Wolf. As Courtney Y put it,  "the whole movie is like one giant inappropriate moment. It's hilarious."

The staff at the Roxie were top-notch, and if you want to know more about how to get involved (the theater operates as a non-profit), email Allyce (the executive director) or Keith (the manager). At the very least, sign up for their mailing list - I've seen everything from an Elvis double feature to a few Bob Dylan documentaries to a 70s porn that required 3-D glasses at the theater, so yRoxie_164ou just never know what to expect from the Roxie, but are seldom disappointed.

Afterward, yelpers packed it into Double Dutch and were treated to complimentary Trumer Pils (despite the name, they have a brewery you can visit right in Berkeley!). Yeah, the first 2 kegs were kicked in an hour, and that says something about the spirits everyone was in, we heard there were reports of double-parking on the dance floor as the night progressed... Stop in sometime soon and say hi to Mike, Chrissy and Darren, our bartenders that evening. Double Dutch is one of the bars from the guys at Vintage 415, and as the Chronicle notes, we're big fans of those cats.

If you spend some time on Yelp (and you must because you are reading this blog post), you know that there are a ton of notables that would have made REALLY good contenders for this list. We're talking, Dear Mr. Bauer, won't you please consider them for next year's list, good. Yes, that good.

Now this is a SAMPLE list of San Francisco's gems. Don't hold our feet to the fire if your personal fave isn't on here - as the saying goes: "So many restaurants, so little space on our blog to cover them all." Have your own opinion, then let's Talk it out...
